Day to Night Barbie was the first time that Barbie represented one of her most aspirational careers - CEO. The pitch of Day to Night Barbie was that was a professional career woman, but could still go out of the town as a fashion icon once she finished up for the day!
Originally released in 1985, as one of her most iconic careers, it was released again as part of the special edition looks back at Barbie’s life.
This release is largely the same except it contains the original year of release in the top right hand of the box. She came with the same accessories, though packaged in a slightly different layout so it is not immediately apparent.
This was one of many Barbie releases that sought to distinguish her - Barbie was now fully formed from her roots as a “teen fashion model”. Now Barbie is, per the advertising slogan, “the ultimate career woman.”

Forgot to post the Barbie Viewing party I pulled together for a few fransss. Mind you, this was the week before Otakon.. while I was actively constructing last minute props. Distilled version of the invitation below (there were, like, so many more emojis).
Ladies & Theydies! It’s been YEARS since we pushed that pink convertible or dreamt of that Barbie Dream House but 2023 appears to be Year of the Barbie. 👑
Your throwback problematic fave is embarking on a much-needed journey of self-discovery into the real world so it’s only right that we shepherd her in with style having already walked that walk ourselves. After all, she taught us (through a narrow lens) that we could BE and HAVE whatever we wanted. We may have grown UP with Barbie but now it’s time to throw down in her honor. 💄
👙The real world is tough so let’s make the day easy with light fare, pink drinks and, preferably, over the top outfits. Come in pink, come in character or come as the Barbie you wanted when you were a kid. Let’s revel in the OG Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss icon in our own way. 💖
For reference: some costume inspiration 🎀

Barbie Rewind is a 2023 release "celebrating the 80s". (The branding around it indicates that they plan to do different eras too - but at the moment, they're 80s style).
When I first saw the branding, I thought this was another set of rereleases of classic Barbies - like the careers throwback set from 2021 celebrating Barbie's best careers from over the years. However, while Barbie had a lot of very similar looks in the actual 80s, the Barbie Rewind series is more of a nostalgic look back than it is actual rereleases.
For example, "Career Girl" Barbie doesn't look much like Day to Night Barbie from 1985, but both dolls are evoking the same high-power career girl aesthetics.
"Girls Night Out" Barbie isn't the same as the Barbie and the Rockers releases, but she could fit in as a member of the band without raising too many questions.
Technically, School Fun Barbie is from 1991, not from the 80's, but I personally can't help but see the similarities between her and Schoolin Around Barbie.
