Things are finally getting serious: Today is the day I will start my journey learning Python from scratch! I really want to improve my coding skills and get more confident. By now, I still often rely on the idea of others, looking at their code and often simply adapt code snippets which fit the present issue to „my solution“ but then couldn‘t replicate a single line without looking at it. I am very excited to change that now, starting to get a deeper understanding and hopefully earn more confidence as a future data scientist!

What is Cloud Computing ?
Tumblr media
Cloud computing has become a widely discussed topic in recent years, but explaining it in simple terms to someone without a background in computer science can be challenging. Allow me to break it down for you.
Cloud computing is a method of storing and accessing data and programs over the internet, rather than keeping them on your personal computer or mobile device. To illustrate this, let's consider online email services like Gmail or Outlook. When you use these services, you can access your emails from anywhere because they are stored in the cloud. This means you don't need to install any special software or save your messages on your hard drive. Instead, your emails are stored on remote servers owned by companies like Google or Microsoft. You can access them from any device connected to the internet, regardless of your location.
Understanding Servers in the Cloud
Now, let's delve into the concept of servers in the cloud.
The data stored in the cloud is saved on physical servers, which are powerful computers capable of storing and processing vast amounts of information. These servers are typically housed in data centers, which are specialized facilities that accommodate thousands of servers and other equipment. Data centers require significant power, cooling, security, and connectivity to operate efficiently and reliably.
Tumblr media
Microsoft and Google are two of the largest cloud providers globally, and they have data centers located in various regions and continents. Here are some examples of where their data centers are located, according to search results:
Microsoft has data centers in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia.
Google has data centers in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia.

Tech jobs requirements prt 1 | Resource ✨
Tumblr media
I decided to do my own mini research on what languages/frameworks/tools and more, are required when looking into getting a job in tech! Read below for more information! 🤗🎀
Tumblr media
The website I have used and will be using for this research is Otta (link) which is an employment search service based in London, England that mostly does tech jobs. What they take into consideration are:
ꕤ Where would you like to work? (Remote or in office in UK, Europe, USA and, Toronto + Vancouver in Canada)
ꕤ If remote, where you are based?
ꕤ If you need a visa to work elsewhere
ꕤ What language you can work in? (English, French, Spanish, etc)
ꕤ What type of roles you would like to see in your searches (Software Engineering, Data, Design, Marketing, etc)
ꕤ What level of the roles you would like? (Entry, Junior, Mid-Level, etc)
ꕤ Size of the company you would like to work in (10 employees to 1001+ employees)
ꕤ Favourite industries you would like to work for (Banking, HR, Healthcare, etc) and if you want to exclude any from your searches
ꕤ Favourite technologies (Scala, Git, React, Java, etc) and if you want to exclude any
ꕤ Minimum expected salary (in £, USD $, CAD $, €)
With this information, I created a dummy profile who is REMOTE based IN THE UK with ENTRY/JUNIOR level and speaks ENGLISH. I clicked all for technologies and industries. Clicked all the options for the size of the company and set the minimum salary at £20k (the lower the number the more job posts will appear) I altered my search requirements to fit these job roles because these are my preferred roles:
ꕤ Software Developer + Engineer
ꕤ Full-Stack
ꕤ Backend
ꕤ Frontend
ꕤ Data
I searched 40 job postings so far but might increase it to 100 to be nice and even. I will keep updating every week for a month to see what is truly the most in-demand in the technology world! I might be doing this research wrong but it's all for fun! ❀

introduction:)
Tumblr media
about me
Helloo~ 👋🏽
Tumblr media
I'm Raeshelle! She/Her, 25
I'm not new to studyblr, langblr, or codeblr, but I decided to make this new account to follow my new journey in all things tech and language. My main point in making this is to track my progress in college, share my study related content and to keep up both accountability and motivation for myself.
I'm studying data science and data analytics in college with hopes of working in artificial intelligence and machine learning in the future. I already have a background of being a full stack web developer and a bit of game design so I'm already familiar with a lot of the basic coding concepts.
Aside from tech, I love gaming, learning languages (currently learning Korean!), binging kdramas, fiction writing and so much more.
I'm excited to meet anyone else who's on a similar path!
what will I post about?
Tumblr media
my learning journey - any topics that were difficult for me, general info about what I'm learning (Python, sql, statistics, etc)
tips for improving Korean
probably some kpop/kdrama content
reblogs about coding, korean, studying in general
goals
Tumblr media
keep up a consistent study habit!
build some cool portfolio projects!
make helpful youtube videos!
minimizing my perfectionism!
I would love to interact with anyone that
is also studying computer science in any discipline, though other data nerds are very welcome
is learning korean, japanese, mandarin, cantonese, tagolog
loves kdrama or kpop
is nuerodivergent in some way
is also a minority in their field
is a fellow cajun koi academy student
is 18+
im excited to start this journey with yall!
Goodbye~~

CLIMB – A New Statistical Method for Improved Large-scale Genomic Data Analysis
Tumblr media
Researchers from Penn State University present CLIMB (Composite Likelihood eMpirical Bayes), a statistical tool that discovers patterns of condition specificity in a given genomic data. It also provides a generic framework for a variety of investigations, such as aggregating genomic features with comparable condition-specific patterns. CLIMB outperforms the existing options in statistical precision while capturing interpretable and biologically important clusters in the data.

"It was thanks to Subject Access Requests that teaching assistants and librarians were able to find out that the UK Department for Education is keeping files on their internet activity.
When the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill is passed, we might not be able to find out about such sinister practices because the Bill will make it easier for the government to refuse our requests to access the data it holds about us."

Text analysis of "The Goldfinch"
(using Google Colab)
(and sexy sexy charts 😉)
Okay, so I definitely spent way too much time on this, but I'm an obsessive little weirdo. And I though, well, maybe other obsessive little weirdos want to see some textual data I managed to rummage through .
Technical Note: Before I throw tables and charts at you, I need to mention that for 100% correct data analysis, you need a text to be in a clean .txt format, which I obviously didn't have (books like this are mostly found in .pdf or .epub format), so I had to convert it to .txt. This caused the text not to look as clean as it was supposed to look. I tried to make it as clean as possible, but there were some things which I couldn't fix (example, instead of "Mr." , the text was written as "M r."). I made these mistakes as minor as possible, but obviously this affected the word count a little bit. But even if the numbers are off by a few, the general picture still stands and the data you'll see is, as far as I could tell, represented relatively correctly.
Okay, let's go. (click on the image to see the info better).
1. Most frequent words in "The Goldfinch"
Tumblr media
Of course, this is not counting stopwords which are by definition most frequent words, but are not as important (the are helping words such as "as", "are", "were", "is", "the" ...)
2. Most used adjectives
Tumblr media
These are the most used ones. The bigger they are, the more they appear in the book.
3. Most used nouns
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Boris" being the most used noun? Come on now.
3. Most used bigrams
Tumblr media
Bigrams are two words that are written together in the text. These are the ones that repeat the most.
4. Bigrams (noun + verb)
Tumblr media
So Boris doing stuff and sadness.
5. Bigrams (adjective + noun - descriptive)
Tumblr media
Isn't it interesting how both "first time" and "last time" are so high up?
6. Trigrams
Tumblr media
Trigrams are like bigrams, but with 3 words. There aren't a lot of repeats with these ones, but "Dragon Ball Z" being here is just 👌.
7. Characters by the number of mentions
Tumblr media
The best for last, in my opinion.
Both Boris and Theo's mom towering over everyone else.
This one could probably be analysed on it's on (I'll probably do it).
Note:
Mr. and Mrs. Barbour weren't easy to count up because a lot of their names were messed up in the text, but I did my best. I thought Mrs. Barbour would be a bit higher than this, so I don't think the chart is 100% accurate.
I tried to pick up all the mentions, so for example for Audrey, I also counted all mentions of "mom" or "mother". Same with Theo's dad. This probably cause an excess becuase I know for a fact that Mr. and Mrs. were also referred to as mom and dad by their children. So a small chunk of Audry and Larry should be transferred Mr. and Mrs. B.
Okay, thanks for checking this out my dudes.

Course: Data Analysis with Python - freeCodeCamp
Tumblr media
Over the past few months, I have been searching for free courses in the field of data analysis and data science, and have discovered a multitude of online resources, among them FreeCodeCamp.
For the next few weeks, I will be posting my learnings from the Data Analysis with Python course. I decided to take inspiration from the content of @xiacodes .
I'll do my best to post something every day, but I can't promise anything for sure. Fingers crossed for me!
Tumblr media
The course aims to provide an introduction to data analysis with Python, specifically through the exploration of key libraries such as Numpy, Pandas, Matplotlib, and Seaborn. Students will also learn how to read and save data from various sources, such as CSV files and SQL, while utilizing Jupyter Notebook as the development environment.
Five hands-on projects are included at the end of the course:
Mean-Variance-Standard Deviation Calculator
Demographic Data Analyze
Medical Data Visualizer
Page View Time Series Visualizer
Sea Level Predictor
PS.: As English is not my native language, please let me know if you see any mistakes in my posts so that I can correct them.
