Dan-el god of death 2
Danny was so exited! Clockwork had sent him to an Alien planet! Well technically he was the alien, but he was on another planet! From the looks of it their culture had just entered its medieval era and was ending a massive war. Danny was sent to cleanup all the resentful undead and evil cults, but surly Clockwork wouldn't mind if he experienced some culture. Right?
Due to Clockworks amulet he could translate their language and his name came out as Dan-el. Which was close enough. Apparently alot of the people had seen his fights with the undead. He hung around and taught them somethings and learned about their culture, religion, and most important their stars. Till one day he looked around and had an "Oh Shit" moment when he discovered maybe he had gone to far and taught to much. He had to leave.
Clockwork sent him back to Krypton( Why did that sound so familiar?) multiple times. Each time Danny found himself in new era's. Then Danny noticed something. As the people, Kryptonians, thanked and praised him, he started to feel it. He started to notice that he was getting stronger in and out of time travel. He wondered why?
Clockwork told him. He told of how Krypton had dubed him the god of death. How they told the legend of his deeds on and off Krypton. His fights with Plasmius and Pariah Dark, his half death, and his powers. All went down as in Kryptonian mythology of Dan-el the god of death. Then he learned of Krypton's fate and the last Kryptonians. (Danny cried)
A week later as Danny lay in bed failing to go to sleep, he felt it. Someone still believed.

Opinion: DC and Marvel’s Multiverses Are Crucial To The Future of Superhero Film
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alright, buckle up kids, this is going to be a long one. Get some soda and some popcorn, or some green tea and avocado toast.
Back in the long-distant year of 1989, a little film called Batman released into theaters and became the film of the Summer. Directed by Tim Burton and starring Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson as Batman and the Joker respectively, it was a cinematic triumph that heralded a new wave of superhero films taking their source material seriously. Followed up in 1992 by Batman Returns, a sequel which increased the fantastic elements but was criticized for its darker tones, Batman’s role in movies was cemented in place by continued success. Of course, Keaton and Burton would leave to be replaced by Val Kilmer as Batman with Joel Schumacher directing for 1995′s Batman Forever, with George Clooney stepping into the cape and cowl for 1997′s Batman and Robin, a wild disaster of a film which nearly destroyed Batman’s chances in movies. But then, in 2005, Christopher Nolan brought a gritty realism to the caped crusader in Batman Begins, and continued this successful experiment with 2008′s Best Film Of The Year, The Dark Knight, and 2012′s The Dark Knight Rises (which was....fine). By this time the DCEU was beginning to get started, so a new Batman was cast for Zack Synder’s 2016 Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and this role went to Ben Affleck. He reprised the role in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad and Joss Whedon’s Justice League, but bowed out of the opportunity to write and direct his own solo Bat-flick. So director Matt Reeves was tapped to direct a new Batman film starring a controversial choice of Robert Pattinson as Batman. With all of this, the question of the past 30-odd years is: which is your favorite Batman? Which one was the best? And how do these films fit into an increasingly convoluted canon in which a film series is rebooted every ten years or so?
What if the answer is: they’re all great and they all fit into canon?
Now, before we think too hard about that, let’s take a look at Spider-Man’s cinematic installments, which is almost more convoluted and in a more compressed amount of time. Beginning with 2002′s Spider-Man directed by Sam Raimi and starring Tobey Maguire, the amazing wall-crawler enjoyed a fantastic amount of success on the big screen, followed up by one of the best superhero films of all time, 2004′s Spider-Man 2. But Spider-Man 3 in 2007 took all of that goodwill and smashed it into the ground with a failure almost as bad as Batman and Robin a decade earlier. Plans for a Spider-Man 4 were scrapped, and eventually in 2012 director Mark Webb and star Andrew Garfield would bring a brand new Spidey to life with The Amazing Spider-Man, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014. Both films were lively and energetic, but criticized for trying to stuff too much into their films -- especially the second one. Sony Pictures was attempting to ramp up a cinematic universe much like Marvel Films was doing at the time, but it was too much too fast. 2017 brought another reboot of the moviefilm version of Spidey, this time directed by Jon Watts and starring Tom Holland, with Spider-Man: Homecoming, this time under Marvel Film’s banner (thanks to backdoor dealing), and another cinematic triumph in 2019′s Spider-Man: Far From Home. But, unlike Batman, Spider-Man’s dealings behind the scenes are nearly as convoluted as his series. Sony Pictures owned the rights to make Spider-Man flicks for years, until Marvel managed to make a ludicrous offer after Amazing 2 failed to catch on the way producers hoped. So Spidey came to the MCU under a joint production, which is how we got Homecoming and Far From Home, but also maintained a different universe with the Amazing films, and then 2018′s Venom, and a little animated motion picture also in 2018 by the name of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.
Class, this is where I would like to direct your attention to the origin of the extraordinary events we are discussing today. Or is it the origin?
Into The Spider-Verse successfully proved that not only is the idea of multiple universes all connecting on screen a good idea, it’s an Oscar winning idea. Spider-Verse is hands down the best animated superhero film ever, and one of the best superhero films period. But here we must take note of certain ideas. The film provided much setup for a world where young Miles Morales begins to emerge with spider powers, but then Spider-Man is killed right in front of him before he can learn how to use them. Enter a Spider-Man from a slightly different parallel dimension, who not only turns Miles around, but find himself inspired to realign his own life. Spider-people abound through the film, all of them having equal weight and the possibility of spawning their own franchise without having to worry about impacting the canon of other universes. This is something comic books have done for literal decades, but Spider-Verse did it with such care and devotion that it won Best Animated Picture and became a mainstream smash hit. Marvel and Sony both sit up at attention; could this work with the major mainstream films they’ve been producing? So the experiment begins: we have a teaser trailer for Morbius, based on a vampiric Spider-Man villain, which features a cameo from the Vulture character first seen in Homecoming. And after dropping hints that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man could cross over with Tom Hardy’s Venom, Jamie Foxx recently posted about being cast as Electro -- a role he played in Amazing Spider-Man 2 -- for the third Tom Holland Spidey flick. Pictures went up on his Instragram seeming to confirm that not only was this the same Electro, but that all three previous Spider-Men -- Maguire, Garfield, and Holland -- would team up for the film. Multiple universes collide, a live action Spider-Verse, where everyone is crossing over with each other. Now, this lines up perfectly with Marvel’s MCU plans, as Doctor Strange has established in his film that multiple universes exist, and his announced sequel is even titled Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It’s here. It’s happening. Every Spider-Man film is canon, they’ve all happened, and we don’t need to worry about which of them make sense or belong. They all make sense.
But just before this announcement, a month or so ago DC let slip that their plans for an upcoming Flash movie are taking cues from the Flashpoint comic books, in which Barry Allen goes back in time and accidentally creates a brand new timeline that he has to correct. Michael Keaton has even been cast as Bruce Wayne, the same Bruce Wayne that he played 30-odd years ago, a casting choice many fans have been clamoring for for years. On top of that, once word was put out that Keaton’s role would be similar to Samuel L. Jackson’s role as Nick Fury in the MCU, Ben Affleck was reported to be joining the picture as Batman also, a team-up no one saw coming. Even Christian Bale is being courted to join the universe-spanning flick, but reportedly only if director Christopher Nolan gives his blessing. Multiple Batmen teaming up together in a Flash movie to combat crime? Of course I’ve already bought tickets. Batman is the biggest box-office draw outside of The Avengers. And this concept opens up plenty of opportunities for DC, who’ve done Elseworlds stories in the comic for years. Joker with Joaquin Phoenix proved that DC films not directly tied to the DCEU can and will do well on their own; The Batman with Pattinson will no doubt further confirm that. But now Batman Returns is once again a viable film mixed into a comic book cocktail of wonder and excitement? And what’s wonderful is that this isn’t DC’s first big attempt at this. Slowly and surely, The CW’s Arrowverse TV shows -- Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow -- have been doing multiverse crossovers for years, building up to 2019′s mega-event Crisis on Infinite Earths, which saw Brandon Routh reprise his role as Superman from 2006′s Superman Returns, which itself is a sequel to Christopher Reeve’s Superman and Superman II. And for one wonderful scene, TV’s Flash, Grant Gustin, got to interact with the DCEU’s Flash, Ezra Miller, confirming that these TV and film universes are indeed one big cocktail of parallel lives and dimensions that all interconnect while still being separate. Hell, we even saw Burt Ward, Robin from the 1966 Batman show, alive and well an in his own little world. Batman ‘66 is part of the wider DC Multiverse! How crazy is that? And we even got a small tease that Batman ‘89 is part of all of this as well, when we got to see reporter Alexander Knox look up to the Batsignal in the sky as Danny Elfman’s iconic score played. In one fell swoop, in as few as a casual couple of cameos, DC made all of their live-action properties canon in the multiverse, meaning no matter which version you like the best, they all work together and work from a franchising and audience standpoint. The 1978 Superman and the 1989 Batman both existed in worlds that ran sidecar to 2019′s Joker and 2011′s Green Lantern. It’s wild, unprecedented in cinematic history, and wonderful for fans of all ages.
Why is this the future of superhero flicks, though? It ought to be simple: no matter what movies come out, no matter how wild or crazy or outside “canon” they seem to be, they all can work and they all can coexist without having to confuse fans. Many people were feeling the reboot fatigue as early as 2012′s Amazing Spider-Man, and while there was a huge tone shift between Batman Returns and Batman Forever, the Bat-films were considered all part of the same line until Batman Begins started all the way over. Now we have Batman 89 and Returns in one world, Forever and Batman and Robin in another (which was already a fan theory, mind you). Sequels that don’t line up with their predecessors can just be shunted into a hidden multiverse timeline and left alone without the convoluted explanation of having to “ignore” certain sequels. Superman III & IV were ignored when Superman Returns chose to connect only to the first and second films, but now we can say that they definitely happened....just somewhere else. There is now a freedom of ideas and creation that can once again occur when making big-budget films based on superheroes. No longer do creative minds need to be restrained to the canon and timeline and overarching plots defined by studios years in advance; “creative differences” don’t need to drive frustrated directors away from characters or stories they truly love. Possibly -- just possibly -- good ideas can become the gold standard once again for comic book films, not just ten-year plans for how to get Captain America from scrawny Marine to Mjolnir-wielding badass. Remember when filmmakers decided to make Joker the same person who killed Bruce Wayne’s parents? Or when they decided to give Spider-Man the ability to shoot webs from his body instead of technology? That certainly wouldn’t fly these days; studio mandates would require adherence to previously established guidelines, or at least what has been seen in the comic. What if now we could get a three-episode limited series on HBO Max of Gotham By Gaslight? Or a big-budget adaptation of Marvel’s 1602? Simply trying to wedge old comic book storylines into existing Cinematic Universes no longer need be a thing! We could get some of the wildest interpretations of superheroes this side of Superman: Red Son. At least, that’s the hope, anyway.
When comic books can step away from canon for just a few minutes, worlds open up and expand. An entire multiverse of ideas can become a feast of entertainment for many. And when there’s already so many beautiful, well-told stories set in alternate universes as comic book precedent, so too can there be beautiful, well-told stories set in alternate universes for film. And the best part? Now they all matter. And I think that’s the future.

Finally, Crisis on Infinite Earths?
Tumblr media
Let’s dispense with any pretense right up front: CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths is thoroughly dopey, punishingly cheap, and unselfconciously corny in the most heavy-handed ways. It is also, similarly in the spirit of wanting to be direct, probably my favorite live-action DC thing other than The Dark Knight. It’s pure, uncut, unapologetic dork superhero joy injected right into the jugular, every single ambition that a primetime network television soap/procedural/mini-MCU homunculus adaptation of the biggest comic book event of all time could have ever conceivably achieved and far beyond. Not in question that I substantially prefer it to the source material, and it’s if nothing else worth regarding as the singular achievement that it is and will remain: when the movies get around to a Crisis someday, the shared ongoing TV/cinematic universe paradigm means there aren’t going to be fistfuls of actors from past interpretations to draw from the way this could for much longer. This was in all likelihood the one shot to do this in the way everyone wanted it to be done, and it held together.
Not that much in the way of deep analysis to offer, and I already discussed the first three episodes, so let’s just get into it:
* Malthus! Low on the totem pole of shock DCU minutia, but I was mighty pleased.
* Not nor have I ever been much of a shipper, but “Do you trust me?” “With every cell in my body.” is the gayest thing I have ever seen, my lord.
* Literally everything with Lex in here is solid shining gold.
* For all the elements I had assumed were givens that didn’t happen - not that I was bothered by much of it other than I really do wish Danny Trejo had been here - Ezra Miller putting his money where his mouth is was in my dang joke category of stuff that was obviously never going to happen. What an absolute delight, and moreover I had thought in the first place “This scene really feels deliberately structured such that it would fit as a scene in the Flash movie, especially given this is where this version has the idea for the name? But that seems so unlikely!” and then Guggenheim confirmed that the CEO of WB specifically asked for that scene to be included, so I guess the Flash movie is going to be a covert sequel/companion piece to the friggin’ CW Crisis! Even if Gustin’s possibly only in the one bit though, I do hope this means Tom Cavanaghhas at least a cameo.
* The killer dumb as hell line aside, Oliver vs. the Anti-Monitor was conspicuously the best special effect in the whole thing, they clearly blew a lot of the budget on that.
* Wolfman got to be the one to tell them the Earths had been merged! And kudos to him co-writing the Arrow episode, which was probably the best of the lot from a pure storytelling/dramatic standpoint; when I say this was leaps and bounds better than the original Crisis, that’s not a knock on him.
* BEEBO. And Sargon the Sorcerer! But BEEBO. Hopefully him appearing at the height of all this and being a thing the non-Legends have to deal with is a sign of the weirdness continuing to be upped across the board.
* The final plan to defeat the Anti-Monitor is the most beautiful Silver Age nonsense, to the point that I’m fine with the last battle basically being in a Vancouver back alley the way I’d said they’d written themselves out of being able to do a year ago. And while there’s an argument to be made that from an in-universe perspective it should have been Flash to deal the final blow given this has been built up on his show since day one, it feels right that Supergirl as his biggest classic casualty scored the win. Either way, the idea of a teeny-tiny Anti-Monitor bein’ all grumpy in the Microverse for all eternity is a delight. Apparently some complained that he was a boring stock villain in this, but folks, I got some bad news about what they’re drawing from.
* Heat Wave is living his best life and we should all be so blessed.
* Given his backseat role as essentially the most important of the non-central characters, all I was truly rooting for with Hoechlin’s Superman in terms of strutting his super-stuff was getting one good hit in against the Anti-Monitor, and then it turned out he was one of the only three (or four if you count Oliver) who did out of the 50+ or so superheroes in total here, so I was a happy camper. And itty-bitty Superman was funny right away, but even funnier when I realized that was basically making Hoechlin an Atom to go with Routh’s Superman. Can’t wait for the show.
* I assume that as I’ve seen others suggest Earth-12 is meant to be the HBO Green Lantern series and they simply used the related footage they had available, but that movie of all movies therefore getting a shout-out in here is both hysterical and somehow perfect: everything has its place.
* Routh lives, in what might be a brighter rewritten timeline! This could easily be his sendoff and it’d be a perfect one, but I’d of course be more than pleased for him to fill a Kal-L role in Superman & Lois.
* “The first of our heroes”? Did Green Arrow precede Superman, which would be a change in at least one of their timelines? Wasn’t Black Lightning a hero awhile back? Or is this just in the sense of him being the first public human hero? The real answer is that it’s an acknowledgment of his real-world role as the guy who kicked all this off and the logistics don’t matter.
* Justice League! Justice League! Justice League!
youtube
* Wonder what the next crossover’s going to be? Easy answers would be something with Superman in the lead now that he’ll be fully in the fold (I understand the 90s crossover Panic in the Sky! was meant for much the same purpose of positioning him as a leader in-universe), or a Dark Nights: Metal adaptation with Batwoman center stage, but the producers have been adamant that the next entry will be something smaller. Maybe a set of mini-crossovers of two or three shows in blocks, or a subplot building across multiple shows that culminates in one or two big episodes with the League banding together. I’d love for their first adventure as a formal team to be fighting Starro (he could emerge as a Lovecraftian threat ala how Morrison treated him in JLA, only for J’onn to link them up to his mind and he turns out to be the hilarious doofus bully from Metal, but the first big crossover was already an alien invasion that involved a bunch of superheroes being mind-controlled, so there is the concern that it could come off as redundant. I’m still in favor of it though, as it could get us a live-action Jarro.
So there we go, there was a live-action Crisis on Infinite Earths. Whereas its source was dopey junk food in service of tearing down a lot of cool stuff, this was dopey junk food in service of delivering and setting up more cool stuff to come, so I’ll stand by this being the better of the two. What a start to the decade; I grew up with 2020 as The Year Of The Future in the same way I know many did with 2000, and nothing could be more of a signifier that we live in a changed world as far as superheroes’ place in mass-media from when I was a kid than this.

Civil War stories I want to see:
Matt And Foggy tear apart the Accords because someone dared to go after Matt’s teammates. Luke Cage is so tired to fighting for his right to freedom. Jessica is mad and drunk. Danny runs away to hide in China so he doesn’t have to deal with this. Frank threatens to shoot Ross if he so much as LOOK at his frienemy Daredevil or his idiot lawyers.
Peter Parker meets other teenage heroes/teens with powers. He sees their monitoring cuffs ((watch Agents of SHIELD)) and learns what life is like for teenagers with powers without Tonky’s protection.
Ross comes after Peter. The Defenders step up as Peter and May’s protectors. Tonky is not even allowed close to them. New York Vigilantes stick together.
Tonky tries to recruit DC/CW heroes. The responses are as follows:
Batman: “No. And stay away from my family.”
Wonder Woman: One Hit KO
Arrow: *shoots with arrows* “Get out of my city!”
Green Lanterns: *laughter.* “WOW! The Guardians would not approve of that! How would we do our jobs!”
Aquaman: “I’m sorry, did I forget the day that Atlantious was recognized by the U.N.? Because I really should have been at that ceremony. I’m not going to sign something my people had no part in creating.”
Flash: *speed reads* “Good God! You want me to sign away the right of every Meta-human in my city! Right, so my answer is no. Please leave.”
Legends; *uncontrolible laughter.*
Superman And Supergirl: *careful reading and discussion.* “Sorry. We’ll have to decline. There are to many civil rights abuses. If it was just about superheroes, we’d consider it, but you want to put civilians on a list? We can’t stand by that.”
Teen Titans: “...you do realize that the TEEN part is literal? None of us are legal adults.”
Civil War Stories I don’t want to see:
Tonky gets Revenge(????) on Team Cap.
Other characters get Revenge(????) on Team Cap for Tonky.
Tonky whines about being betrayed.
Tonky is a world hero and everyone on Team Cap are terrorists and hated by the entire world.
Thor support Tonky (?????)
Loki supports Tonky (?????)
Team Cap grovels at Tonky’s feet and let themselves be thrown in supermax.

CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS 100-PAGE GIANT TO DIVE DEEPER INTO THE MYSTERIES OF THE CW’S CROSSOVER EVENT
100-Page Special Features All-New Stories Co-Written by Comics Legend Marv Wolfman and TV Showrunner/Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim
Premiere Issue of Two-Issue Series Arrives in Participating U.S. Walmart Stores by December 15, 2019
BURBANK, CA (December 5, 2019) – Fans of both comic books and The CW’s superhero shows are anxiously awaiting the debut of the Crisis on Infinite Earths television event scheduled for December and January. An event of this size and depth is bound to raise as many questions as it answers, and DC will be ready with a helping hand with the first of a two-issue series of Crisis on Infinite Earths 100-Page GIANT comic books, sold in participating U.S. Walmart stores.
Featuring an iconic cover image by original Crisis on Infinite Earths artist and co-creator George Perez, the book is expected to arrive in participating Walmart stores by December 15, 2019. The on-sale date follows the airing of parts one through three of The CW crossover on December 8 (Supergirl), December 9 (Batwoman) and December 10 (The Flash).
The book features a 24-page main story co-written by comics icon and Crisis comic co-creator Marv Wolfman and Marc Guggenheim, who serves as showrunner and executive producer of the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event, with art provided by Tom Derenick (pencils), Trevor Scott (inks), John Kalisz (colors) and Wes Abbott (letters). Wolfman and Guggenheim also contribute an eight-page back-up story with pencils by fan-favorite Superman and Titans artist Tom Grummett, inks by Danny Miki, colors by Chris Sotomayor and letters by Wes Abbott. The debut issue also features a full reprint of the first issue of Wolfman and Perez’ Crisis on Infinite Earths #1 as well as an excerpt from issue #7 of the landmark maxiseries.
“The story that we’re attempting to tell with our interpretation of Crisis on Infinite Earths is so ambitious, we couldn’t confine it to five hours,” said Guggenheim. “I’m incredibly excited that we’re getting the chance to tell an ‘in canon’ story that ties directly into the crossover narrative. The comics will enable us to include characters and concepts that couldn’t be included in the crossover, plus the chance to collaborate further with original Crisis architect Marv Wolfman is just icing on the cake.”
The second GIANT comic will arrive in participating U.S. Walmart stores by January 19, 2020 and hit comic book retailers on February 26, 2020. Issue #2 will also feature the main and back up stories co-written by Wolfman, Guggenheim, with art by Derenick, Scott, Andy Owens, Hi-Fi and Abbott on the main story, with Grummett, Miki, Sotomayor and Abbott on the back-up story. Reprinted content will also be included, in the form of issue #8 of Crisis on Infinite Earths, plus excerpted content from DC Universe: Legacies #6.
“The combination of all new stories by Marv and Marc, along with content from one of the most monumental events in DC history makes these titles the perfect companion to this reimagining of Crisis on Infinite Earths,” said Nancy Spears, VP, Sales. “These books will engage both fans of the TV show and the original story alike and are sure to be true collectors’ items.”

Stiles whispers soothing words to the child as he swings his body forward, casting another web as they start to fall to the ground. “I hope you realize you’re shooting at a little kid right now!” Stiles shouts at the henchmen, trying to find the kid’s parents. “There’s a special circle of hell for that y’know!”

Of three things, Malia was certain. First, her college's psychology department contained three of the city's most notorious supervillains. Second, there was a chance—and she knew exactly how large that chance was—that they would get her excellent connections if she took on the city's newest superhero. And third, Malia was, unconditionally and irrevocably, broke and out of luck.

20 Last(ish) Lines
Ahem. So back in October, I did a first-lines exercise, and then @amatara said she wanted to do a last-lines version and asked if I would do it with her. And I said sure, but it’d probably be a few days until I got to it. ...and then a few days turned into a few months, apparently. (Sorry, amatara! It was mostly all drafted? I’m not sure why it’s spent three months languishing in my drafts folder? My life is a mystery even to me?)
Anyway, these are the same twenty stories I used for the first-lines exercise; I’m ignoring the handful of things I’ve published since then, because I am lazy, lazy. In cases where the last line makes absolutely no sense on its own, I include the line or two before it.
1. “Yes, she does [like marmalade],” I agreed—although Holmes liked it somewhat more—and I began removing his chemical equipment to my room. (Baker Street Papas, Whitehead Holmes)
2. Mac laughed, and gathered the exhausted girl closer in her arms. (Recommended by Galen and Avicenna, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries)
3. I flicked my own stub into the coals and sat back to listen proper, not much caring what he played, just so long as I got to lay there listening to it. (Desperate Men and Fools, ACD x Strange Empire)
4. RAYMOND (CON’T): Happy Valentine’s Day, Kevin. KEVIN: And to you, Raymond. (The Way Lovers Do, With The Puzzle, Brooklyn 99)
5. And Furiosa thinks, Oh, that’s why. (Fingers, Mad Max: Fury Road)
6. “I told you, it’s not broken,” she scolds, and the two of them spend the rest of the walk home planning Danny Gilpatrick's downfall. (Terrible Sisters, Supergirl)
7. And Rey went to find Finn, deciding that yes, even surrounded by all her command staff and an entire base of Resistance fighters, General Leia Organa had been waiting for Rey to come back. (Welcome Home, Star Wars: The Force Awakens)
8. "Suits you," Poe grins. One thumb strokes the base of Finn's skull above the collar. "Can't wait for her to see you in it." (Lined with Love, Star Wars: The Force Awakens)
9. Buoyed to the sound of his violin, I let myself drift, my Mary’s dear face before me. (Brandy and Soda, The Seven-Per-Cent Solution)
10. “With luck, we’ll be able to catch the evening tide.” (Particular Debts, The Seven-Per-Cent Solution)
11. Johanna Mason had three months. She knew exactly how much damage a sawblade could do. (From the Woods: The Wolves and Woodcutters Remix, The Hunger Games)
12. Joan blinked at the ceiling a few moments, then hit ctrl-Q and dragged the file, all 474 pages of it, to the recycle bin. (Crowd Around: The ‘And I, My Best Friend’ Remix, Elementary)
13. He marked them, and guarded them, and waited for the changing wind when Watson—perhaps this one he knew, or some future version he couldn’t yet envision—would seek to have them restored to her. (For the Sake of the Trust (The Stratigraphic Predecessor Remix, Elementary)
14. Whatever man brought [that Marshall’s star] into that whorehouse, he clearly didn’t deserve to have it. Kelly reckoned the woman who wanted them to call her Ma maybe did. (Stars are for Wishing On, Strange Empire)
15. And with that, we settled in to making sense of Dr Watson’s dates. (A Handsome and Generous People, Sherlock Holmes in the 23rd Century)
16. In a few, happy hours I would once again have Truth to test myself against: exacting, unpredicted, and glorious. (On Verity and Verisimilitude, Star Trek: The Next Generation)
17. ‘I wish you to take me sailing, Lady Maria. If at all possible, tonight.’ (Setting the Sail, ACD Holmes)
18. She looked out at the horizon then, smiling. I did, too, as I held her hand and waited to see what would come up on the other side of it. (As Safe as Houses, Strange Empire)
19. Rebecca shut her eyes again to better listen to Kat’s voice. (Kissing Day, Strange Empire)
20. “Excellent,” he beamed, standing aside for her. “And as soon as we finish here, I have another project upstairs which requires your urgent assistance.” (Cabin Fever, Elementary)
I’m not sure how well one can evaluate the last line in isolation -- ideally, it acquires its meaning from the entire story that went before it, does it not? For example, #11 is the culmination of an eight-thousand word extended metaphor about people, saws, and wood; that line gets all of its power from the relentless priming that went before. On the flipside, there’s a couple of these where it doesn’t matter one whit to me if the last line is any good or not. (The satisfaction in a PWP doesn’t come from the author nailing the final line, after all.)
Overall, I’m much happier with my final lines than my first lines, mostly because I work far harder on them. I might perhaps be embarrassed that #3 and #9 have virtually the same ending -- Watson listening to Holmes playing his violin -- except that I’m using it to different ends in each, and anyway, there are so many Holmes and Watson adaptations that end with Watson listening to Holmes playing his violin; if I have to be embarrassed about using that shorthand, then so do they.

When Pariah Dark was alive he was a kyptonian warlord. In kryptonian history it is known that in medieval kypton there was a king so mad with power that he burned all the temples, declared war on the gods, and seduced a young chronomancer to bend time in his favor. It is recorded that the kryptonian god of death, dan-el, struck him down for his crimes and arrogance and threw his soul into the unknown to suffer eternal undeath.

2 OTPs song matchup
Take five fandoms and two pairings from each fandom. Match them to a song you feel sums that pairing up. You can do OT3′s and beyond, too!
Tag people if you want!
Behind the cut: Hawaii Five-0 (Steve/Danny, Kono/Adam); MCU (Tony/Loki, Sam/Bucky); Supernatural (Dean/Castiel, Castiel/Meg); Leverage (Parker/Hardison/Eliot, Nate/Sophie); Supergirl (Kara/Jimmy, Alex/Maggie).
Hawaii Five-0
Steve/Danny: Fall Out Boy - Alone Together
You cut me off, I lost my track; it’s not my fault I’m a maniac It’s not funny anymore - it’s not My heart is like a stallion; they love it more when it’s broken Do you wanna feel beautiful? Do you wanna? Yeah
I don’t know where you’re going But do you got room for one more troubled soul? I don’t know where I’m going But I don’t think I’m coming home, and I said – “I’ll check in tomorrow if I don’t wake up dead,” This is the road to ruin – and we’re starting at the end
Kono/Adam: Theory of a Deadman - Angel
I’d go to hell and back with you Stay lost in what we found Worlds apart, we were the same Until we hit the ground
Maybe I’m crazy, maybe I’m weak Maybe I’m blinded by what I see You wanted a soldier but it wasn’t me Cuz I could never set you free
I’m in love with an angel who’s afraid of the light Her halo is broken but there’s fight in her eyes
Marvel Cinematic Universe
Tony/Loki:BoA - Eat You Up
When I first saw you, I knew nothing’s like it used to be Boy, you have got to be the finest thing in history The way I feel inside is just so hard to understand You feed my appetite in ways I can’t explain
If you move any closer, boy, there is no guarantee What I will do to you, I feel it, and it’s scaring me Like I’ve become some kind of demon in the night You look so tasty, I could eat you up alive
Can’t stop thinkin’ ‘bout the things I wanna do to you You come any closer you’d be askin’ for it too I want your love, I need your touch so much I think I’m in love
I’ll eat you up, your love, your love I’ll eat you up, your love, your love (Whoa) I’ll eat you up (Whoa) So yum, yum (Whoa) Can’t get enough (Whoa) I think I’m in love
Sam/Bucky: The Black Keys - Sinister Kid
I got a tortured mind, and my blade is sharp A bad combination in the dark
If I killed a man in the first degree Baby, would you – would you flee with me?
Yeah, a sinister kid is a kid who runs to meet his maker A drop-dead sprint from the day he’s born Straight into his maker’s arms And that’s me, that’s me; the boy with the broken halo That’s me, that’s me; the devil won’t let me be
Supernatural
Dean/Castiel: Rufus Wainright - Hallelujah
I’ve heard there was a secret chord That David played, and it pleased the Lord But you don’t really care for music, do you? It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth The minor fall, the major lift – the baffled king composing Hallelujah
Maybe I’ve been here before I know this room, I’ve walked this floor I used to live alone before I knew you I’ve seen your flag on the marble arch Love is not a vict’ry march – it’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah
Maybe there’s a God above And all I ever learned from love Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you And it’s not a cry you can hear at night It’s not somebody who’s seen the light – It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah
Castiel/Meg: Puddle of Mudd - Blurry
You could be my someone, you could be my scene Know that I’ll protect you from all of the obscene I wonder what you’re doing, imagine where you are There’s ocean in between us, but that’s not very far
Everyone is changing, there’s nowhere left that’s real So make up your ending, let me know just how you feel Cuz I am lost without you, I cannot live at all My whole world surrounds you, I stumble then I crawl
Nobody told you where to hide Nobody told you what to say Everyone showed you where to turn Showed you when to run away!
Leverage
Parker/Hardison/Eliot: Fall Out Boy - Immortals
They say we are what we are, but we don’t have to be I’m bad behavior but I do it in the best way I’ll be the water of the eternal flame I’ll be the guard dog of all your fever dreams
Sometimes the only payoff for having any faith Is when it’s tested again and again every day I’m still comparing my past to your future It might be your wound but they’re my sutures
I am the sand in the bottom half of the hourglass, glass I try to picture me without you but I can’t!
Cuz we could be immortals, immortals! Just not for long, for long And live with me forever now, you pull the blackout curtains down Just not for long, for long We could be immortals, immortals
Nate/Sophie: Lady Gaga - Yoü and I
We got a whole lotta money, but we still pay rent Cuz you can’t buy a house in Heaven There’s only three men that I’mma serve in my whole life It’s my daddy and Nebraska and Jesus Christ
Something, something about the chase (six whole years) I’m a New York woman, born to run you down Still want my lipstick all over your face Something, something about just knowing when it’s right So put your drinks up, for Nebraska Oh, Nebraska, Nebraska, I love ya!
Supergirl
Kara/Jimmy: Nickelback - Savin’ Me
I’m terrified of these four walls These iron bars can’t hold my soul at all
And all I need is you (Come, please, I’m callin’) And oh, I scream for you (Hurry, I’m fallin’, I’m fallin’)
Show me what it’s like (To be the last one standing) And teach me wrong from right (And I’ll show you what I can be) And say it for me, say it to me And I’ll leave this life behind me Say it if it’s worth savin’ me
Alex/Maggie:Lighthouse - Hanging by a Moment
Desperate for changing, starving for truth Closer to where I started chasing after you
Forgetting all I’m lacking, completely and complete I’ll take your invitation, you take all of me, now
I’m falling even more in love with you! Letting go of all I’ve held onto! I’m standing here until you make me move! I’m hanging by a moment here with you I’m living for the only thing I know! I’m running, and not quite sure where to go! And I don’t know what I’m diving into! Just hanging by a moment here with you
There’s nothing else to lose There’s nothing else to find There’s nothing in the world That could change my mind There is nothing else…

Young Heroes in Love #5
Tumblr media
I don't often see the "male raped by tentacle monster" version of Hentai.
I have no memory of DC's Genesis crossover event. It's possible I missed it because I was living in a Volkswagen bus traveling across country and sneaking into KOAs to shower. My reading material on that road trip was composed of issues of Stephen Seagle's House of Secrets, various Astro City graphic novels, Moore's Watchmen, and the entirety of Gaiman's The Sandman collected editions. I probably have a lot of comic book series that just stop right about the November/December 1997 cover date (which were probably on the shelves around August). If a comic book managed to make the cut, it was only because it burned itself into my memory and I eventually hunted down the issues I missed. I guess Young Heroes in Love, while I'm really enjoying it, didn't make the same impression as something like Transmetropolitan (which I got the first and maybe second issue of and then only restarted reading at Issue #13, going back later to pick up the collected editions for the first 12 issues). I should probably start paying more attention to which of my comics end right about this time. The Genesis mini-series has something to do with a cosmic wave bouncing back and forth around the DC Universe. I guess the wave boosts power or grants power or powers meta(l)genes or something because the wave hits at the beginning of this issue and everybody's powers start freaking out. Thunderhead begins power farting all over the headquarters while Frostbite's hands turn to ice. Off-ramp self-portals and Bonfire...well, I don't know what Bonfire's hopped up powers do. It must be internal like, um, the dainty parts of women? Is that a biologically correct thing to say?
Tumblr media
Oh wait. There she goes. Good thing it was a FWOOSH instead of a FWASH.
If you didn't understand the previous caption, just go read my Supergirl reviews. Don't think of it as homework or research. Think of it as getting to see lots of scanned images of Supergirl's bum. Zip-Kid's power begins to fluctuate so that she grows huge zippers. Oh shit! While reading the part where Zip-Kid grows super big, I began thinking about how everybody who reads about a metahuman like Zip-Kid or Giganta has to think about them having sex with a normal sized companion. You'd absolutely use an entire person as a dildo at least once if you could grow that big, right? And then I thought about how readers almost certainly think about how big the cock is on somebody like Apache Chief. Even if it's just a passing thought, we think those things! But they're never acknowledged in comic books because we just have to pretend that thoughts like that don't exist. And then I remembered why I love DC's Harley Quinn cartoon so much. In a recent episode, they were battling a giant and Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn actually began discussing how big the giant's penis must be. And that episode at the bar mitzvah where Harley kept bringing up finger banging with all the young boys! It's almost as if Eee! Tess Ate Chai Tea paved the way for this kind of shit being acceptable! Hopefully the next cartoon will be a Batgirl cartoon based on my Batgirl diary entries where Batgirl is super horned up to get laid but it just never happens. Hell, the DC Universe channel is killing it with most of their shows anyway. From Dick Grayson saying, "Fuck Batman," on Titans to having a Doom Patrol episode where Flex Mentallo flexes just the right muscle and causes everybody, including Danny the Street, to orgasm while Cliff Steele fakes his to fit in, they've won me over in so many ways. Swamp Thing wasn't bad but it was definitely the hardest to get through. This is why so many people love fan-fiction over the actual canon stories. Because fan-fiction isn't regulated by traditionally prudish attitudes which tend to desexualize all adults. It's one of the reasons I love British panel shows so much more than anything on American television. Because they understand that conversations with adults will contain adult material. Just the simplest of things that American television wouldn't allow make me giddy, like in a recent episode of QI when Aisling Bea has a stuffed giraffe in her lap and begins to pretend its a boner. Hard Drive realizes people's powers are surging so he needs to go check on his brother. His brother is a more powerful telekinetic who could destroy the world if he were to wake from his coma. But Hard Drive makes sure he's never going to wake by using his mental powers on him. Off-ramp, who teleported Hard Drive to the mental hospital, realizes that if Hard Drive is doing that to his brother, he's probably fucking with the entire team with his powers.
Tumblr media
Off-ramp him into the sun, Off-ramp!
Of course Hard Drive uses his mind control powers to get Off-ramp back on his side. He even admits to Off-ramp that he might have caused the car crash on the race course which caused Off-ramp to realize he wants to be a hero. So the Young Heroes is like the Doom Patrol if The Chief were a hot guy with actual mind control powers and Cliff, Negative Man, Rita, Josh, and Crazy Jane were all fucking each other. Part of the Genesis story has to do with Darkseid so Kalibak is rampaging on Earth. All of Earth's real heroes are battling Darkseid by the Source Wall in deep space so its up to the Young Heroes to stop Kalibak. Unfortunately, they're all fucked up from the cosmic wave's super juice. So Hard Drive goes out on his own to defeat Kalibak. In doing so, he runs his powers dry and he isn't able to keep up the mind control lies he's been using to coerce his teammates into doing his bidding. Bonfire remembers that he convinced her to fuck Thunderhead rather than Frostbite and she decides it's time to tell everybody what an asshole Hard Drive really is. Young Heroes in Love #5 Rating: B+. A comic book like this really exposes the major failings in a lot of other mainstream comic books. Comic book fans are used to extremely serious or gritty comic book plots coming along and changing the way readers think about stories that can be told in comic books. But rarely do we see a comic book that shows readers how much story and characterization can be stuffed into a super comic booky comic book. This comic book isn't doing anything different. It's not a commentary on super heroes; it's not satire; it's not an intelligent dissection of any grand moral themes of existence. It's just a book about amateur super heroes trying to figure out how to be super heroes and doing it somewhat successfully. It's also about young people and the drama they can get into due to romantic entanglements and colliding passions. But it does it to such a high degree that can easily go unnoticed as "just a silly young person comic book." Even the art plays up the whimsical attitude in such an attractive way that it's easy to miss how on the mark this book is in super hero terms. A 22 page comic book about eight separate characters and it finds time to give them all substantial roles to play, and nice moments of dialogue. It might be light on action but when are the action scenes anything but filler, really? It provides just the right amount of action to supplement the real drama that is the character interaction. It's just really fucking well done and I might have to pick up the rest of the series.

From Tim Burton’s iconic Batman to the baseball-bat swinging Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, DC Comics superheroes and their villainous counterparts have been lighting up the box office since the 50s. With the launch of the M-Net Movies DC Heroes pop-up channel for DStv Premium subscribers, which is also available to stream on DStv Now, we’ve ranked every live-action DC comic movie ever!*
30. Stamp Day for Superman (1954)
Superman takes time from fighting crime to promote war stamps, used to fund the fight against the Axis powers of World War II. So it’s not the worst movie on this list, but it’s not actually a movie either - just something designed to be shown in cinemas.
29. The Return of Swamp Thing (1989)
This movie had about as much budget as the Joker has sanity. With that in mind, it does a respectable job. But only with that in mind - otherwise, this is just an awful low-budget monstrosity.
28. Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987)
Everyone had lost interest in making another Superman. But they were contracted to make one, so we got a fourth movie starring the man of steel. Its most memorable moment is how bad the special effects of the finale are. Yikes.
27. Catwoman (2004)
The first Batman character to get their own movie (other than Bats), there was a lot of hope for Catwoman’s maiden outing. Alas, very little is right here. It opted to invent its own story for the character, but just made a mess of everything. Not even Halle Berry could save it.
26. Batman & Robin (1997)
This movie shouldn’t be ranked so low. It’s funny and has some entertaining villains. But you know what? The entire thing was motivated to sell action figures. Seriously. Even the director apologised for it.
25. Steel (1997)
Back in 1997 nobody wanted to make comic book movies, not unless it was Batman. Steel, already a B-list DC character, got a low-budget straight-to-video movie. It doesn’t help that Shaq, who plays Steel, is not as good at acting as he is at basketball…
Download the DStv Now app from the Android or iOS.
24. Jonah Hex (2010)
If comic book movies teach us anything, it’s that actors should stick to the genre. It worked for Ryan Reynolds, Chris Evans and Ben Affleck. Ditto for Josh Brolin, who has portrayed three comic book characters. But even though he was a cool Jonah Hex, the movie not so much…
23. Green Lantern (2011)
Some comic characters are relatively simple and easy to put into a movie. Green Lantern is not, yet this movie wanted to make things even more confusing. Even Ryan Reynolds started making fun of it in his other films.
22. Superman and the Mole Men (1951)
It’s the 1950s, things are still in black and white, and Superman has the time to work out squabbles between frightened small-town people and underground creatures with big eyebrows. Most memorable as the first Superman movie and perhaps the first-ever true superhero movie.
21. Batman: The Movie (1966)
Back in its day, this was a big hit. But it’s really a case of “you had to be there”. Shot after the success of Season 1 of Adam West’s Batman, it’s a whole movie of WHAM! BANG! POW! and 60s pin-up girls gyrating with the dark knight to surf music. No, we’re not making any of this up.
20. Superman III (1983)
Superman III would have been forgotten today, were it not for three things: the Superman vs Superman fight, Richard Pryor’s non-stop jokes, and that scary android woman created by Lex Luthor’s supercomputer. Oh, and Superman dumping a frozen lake on a chemical fire. Ah, the 80s.
19. Supergirl (1984)
Superman’s cousin comes to Earth to retrieve a powerful artefact, while a wannabe witch uses it to amplify her powers. The result is a weird tale that stumbles and jumps through plot holes, but it’s still entertaining. Fun fact: Supergirl actress Helen Slater later played Superman’s biological mom in Smallville.
18. Suicide Squad (2016)
It is overstuffed, convoluted and had some nondescript bad guys that nobody can remember. Too much icing on too little cake. On the other hand, the main cast of characters are really cool and the soundtrack rocked, so it has a place in some fans’ hearts.
How to register for DStv Now.
17. Swamp Thing (1982)
It’s the DC movie you’ve never heard of - and the DC character you’ve never heard of. This quirky comedy would have been lost to time, were it not a campy cult masterpiece directed by Wes Craven long before he created Freddy Krueger.
16. Batman Returns (1992)
Tim Burton’s second Batman film is a little overproduced and lacks that raw shine of the original. But Michelle Pfeiffer is still the best Catwoman to appear in a movie and Danny DeVito is the perfect Penguin. Yet leave it to Christopher Walken to play a villain with no mask and no powers, yet still be the meanest thing in Gotham.
15. Batman Forever (1995)
Joel Schumacher’s first go at the Batman world is a clear hat-tip to the 60s era of the character. It was more fun and camp, and who doesn’t like George Clooney’s smirking Bruce Wayne, or Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones as Riddler and Two-Face? But it was a little too much at times...
14. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
The hopes were really high for this film and it was never going to please everyone. Lex Luthor’s inane and complicated plan sucks a lot of wind from its sails. On the other hand, the Batman combat scene not only saves the movie but shows why Ben Affleck is great as the character.
13. Watchmen (2009)
There are very few graphic novels more revered and complex than this epic - and director Zack Snyder tries to fit every bit of it into his film. Yet even after cutting a major sub-plot, Watchmen is still a long and dense experience. It’s got its fans, but like the comic, is the antithesis of superheroes. That’s not for everyone.
12. Justice League (2017)
Justice League isn’t perfect and its biggest problem is an overly generic bad guy that nobody cares to remember. But the team works well together, the fight with Superman is epic, Jason Momoa was born to play Aquaman, and we definitely want to see more of The Flash.
11. Superman II (1980)
The sequel to the original Superman movie was mired with problems, from losing its director and design consultant to being filmed right on the heels of the first film. But it holds up well, not least because Terence Stamp’s General Zod gives us every reason to remember why we need superheroes.
10. Superman Returns (2006)
Lex Luthor proves why he is as dangerous as any villain with superpowers, while the darker tone helps create a Superman persona that fits better with the 21st Century.
9. The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
It gets a little tiring to hear how old and beaten Batman is and maybe Tom Hardy’s Bane does too good a job, overshadowing just about every other character in this movie. But as a conclusion to Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, this was a classy send-off for Gotham’s saviour.
8. Man of Steel (2013)
Not only do we finally, after many years, get a new Superman movie, but some inspired genius casts Michael Shannon as the evil General Zod. It’s been too long and we’re happy Krypton’s son is back!
7. Constantine (2005)
At the time it was not a hit. But the first movie adaptation of the Hellblazer comics has since gathered a big cult following. Today it can claim a lot of fans because it’s actually really good. Hey, Keanu, where’s our sequel?
6. Batman Begins (2005)
Since 1989’s Batman, there have been other superhero movies that made their mark on the genre. Then Christopher Nolan shows up, hires Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman, and turns comic book movies into crime thrillers. Brilliant.
5. Wonder Woman (2017)
A slightly weak third act doesn’t hurt the appeal of the Amazonian superhero in her first major movie outing. Let’s face it - nobody is panicking anymore about what might happen to Superman. Wonder Woman can take care of things.
4. Superman (1978)
There had been a few superhero movies before 1978’s Superman. But this set the stage: big effects, great hero, amazing soundtrack - and Gene Hackman deserves more credit for his mean Lex Luthor.
3. Batman (1989)
Tim Burton unleashes his quirky style in grand form, creating the superhero movie that still influences the genre today. Then there’s Jack Nicholson’s Joker, Michael Keaton’s dry wit and the original soundtrack by Prince. Enough said!
2. V for Vendetta (2005)
This dark tale of a near future under a totalitarian state is already a gritty and powerful movie. But Hugo Weaving as the antihero V just takes it to another level. On top of that, this is an experience with real purpose and a serious message underneath. Remember, remember, the fifth of November...
1. The Dark Knight (2008)
Why so serious? Heath Ledger’s Joker is just entirely in his own league. And not just him - everything in this movie fires on all cylinders. The greatest DC movie? No. This is the greatest comic book movie in history.

DC TV Watch: Comic-Con Announcements Explained

DC TV Watch: Comic-Con Announcements Explained
Welcome to The Hollywood Reporter‘s weekly DC TV Watch, a rundown of all things DC Comics on TV. Every Friday, we round up the major twists, epic fights, new mysteries and anything else that goes down on The CW’s Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl and Black Lightning and Fox’s Gotham. Note: Gotham, Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow are on hiatus until the new seasons return in the fall, and Black Lightning will premiere midseason. This week, we’re breaking down all the news that came out of Comic-Con and what it all means.
Gotham
Prodigal daughter returns | Teen Wolf alum Crystal Reed joins season four as Don Falcone’s (John Doman) daughter Sofia Falcone, who has been running the mob family business in the south for the past decade. Described as strong, intelligent and calculating, she’s brought back to Gotham to help Gordon (Ben McKenzie) take down Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor).
Arrival of the real Scarecrow | The trailer released during Comic-Con revealed the arrival of DC Comics villain Scarecrow with the tagline, “Gotham will know fear.” Viewers remember that the Scarecrow’s father Gerald Crane (Julian Sands) was introduced on the show back in season one with his teenage son Jonathan (who comic book fans know is the real Scarecrow), but there’s no word yet on who is underneath the hood just yet. Will the true Scarecrow finally debut, or is this another red herring?
Babs’ resurrection | As we predicted, Babs (Erin Richards) did not die in the season three finale. Or, she did die, but will come back in season four … as someone different. Her hardcore, subdued new look in the trailer teases a kind of transformation for the formerly maniacal villain. Does this mean she isn’t the proto-Harley Quinn she was rumored to be last season?
Check out the sizzle reel from last season, including about one minute of new footage for season four, below:
youtube
Supergirl
A new suit | Adrian Pasdar’s casting got the biggest cheers during the Comic-Con panel, and he’ll be playing villain Morgan Edge, a “ruthless real estate developer.” Comic book fans know Edge as the owner of a media corporation with holdings like the Daily Planet, where he often comes into contact with Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin). Now that The CW has changed Edge’s backstory, how will he interact with Kara (Melissa Benoist)? Will he just serve as an antagonist to Supergirl, or will he somehow come into Kara’s orbit as well? It’s also interesting to note that one version of Edge in the comics is African-American, but Supergirl did not go that route onscreen.
Potential new crossover | Psi’s (Yael Grogblas) debut on Supergirl presents an interesting potential for crossovers with another Arrow-verse series, as the DC Comics villain shared some time with The Thinker (aka The Flash‘s new villain) on the Suicide Squad. It’s more likely that Supergirl will just tell the story of Psi believing that Supergirl is the villain “Decay,” before realizing she’s the villain herself, and has been listening to her own fears all along.
Relationship updates | While it was established in the season three trailer that Kara will be focusing on herself and not getting a new love interest, the fact that Chris Wood, who plays Mon-El, was on the panel means her Daxamite boyfriend will be back at some point. Will Kara be able to open her heart again when he returns, or will she go full dark by then? As for “Sanvers,” it was heartening to hear new showrunners Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner promise that although Floriana Lima has a diminished role this season, Maggie and Alex (Chyler Leigh) “have an amazing beautiful story to tell that really honors the love between these two women.” Many were worried that Lima’s demotion from series regular to recurring meant their relationship was doomed, but as one of the few LGBTQ relationships told responsibly onscreen, that would be a mistake for the series to break them up. And James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) will be getting a new love interest, the first since he and Kara broke up in the season two premiere.
The Flash
Heartbreak ahead | Casting news spells trouble for both Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) and Cisco (Carlos Valdes). Tom Felton, who plays Caitlin’s love interest Julian, will not be back as a series regular in season four. The Harry Potter alum did not attend Comic-Con with the cast, has not booked a return to the show and isn’t seen at all in the trailer for the new season, so it’s unclear whether or not he’ll be back at all. EW first reported this news. As for Cisco’s love interest Gypsy (Jessica Camacho), despite her father Breacher (played by Danny Trejo) debuting this season, Camacho has just joined NBC’s Taken as a series regular in season two, meaning her time on The CW series is limited. TVLine first reported this news.
Caitllin … Frost? | Getting a big cheers during the panel, the appearance of Killer Frost in the trailer was a huge hit. But Panabaker revealed that she’s playing a combination of Caitlin Snow and Killer Frost this season, the metahuman version of herself who isn’t a villain. She’ll be a part of Team Flash, but there’s no telling how she’ll get along (or fight) her former friends moving forward. It’s a relief to finally see the series address the narrative plot hole of why other metahumans like Barry (Grant Gustin) are still the same person they were before the particle accelerator explosion, unlike Caitlin who turned into a murderer immediately.
Running as fast as she can | But it was Iris (Candice Patton) who got the biggest cheers during the trailer debut, as it was revealed that she is taking Barry’s request to keep running without him there to heart. She’s now the de facto leader of Team Flash and while she misses her fiance, she’s looking forward. She isn’t wallowing on the couch, she’s fighting crime. She’s truly the strongest person on the team and keeping everyone afloat during Barry’s absence. This is the Iris we deserve.
Arrow
Fallout from Lian Yu | Thanks to the season six trailer, some spoilers about who survived and who didn’t survive the Lian Yu explosion have been revealed. It looks like William (Jack Moore) will move in with Oliver (Stephen Amell) after what happens on the island, so it’s likely his mother Samantha (Anna Hopkins) is one of the casualties of Prometheus’ (Josh Segarra) final plan. Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke (Manu Bennett) will also be back for a two-episode arc exploring his origin story, meaning he survived the island explosion. Other possible survivors: Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) and Diggle (David Ramsey), who are seen running away from the explosion, potentially to safety.
Mystery villain | Michael Emerson’s casting was met with a ton of enthusiasm during the Comic-Con panel, but the Arrow showrunners didn’t reveal who he’s playing, other than that he’s part of a “villainous cabal,” a found family of baddies. That sounds a lot like hacker group Helix, who was reunited with its leader Cayden James last season without ever showing the man’s face. The showrunners also revealed that DC Comics character Richard Dragon will show up, which is interesting because in the comics, he used to be a good guy, training many students in martial arts before The New 52 relaunch recreated him as a villain.
Legends of Tomorrow
Surprising crossover | One of the villains for this season of Legends comes from CW Seed’s animated series Vixen. Kuasa (Quantico‘s Tracy Ifeachor) is Mari McCabe’s (Megalyn E.K.) older sister who wants her Tantu Totem, the mystical object that gives her the power of animals. She’ll be making the jump from animated to live action, and will come into conflict with her grandmother Amaya (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) this season.
More meta commentary | After all the hilarious winks and nods to Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller’s time on Prison Break, Legends is getting even more obviously meta with Martin Stein (Victor Garber). In the trailer alone, he makes a comment about never stepping foot on the Titanic, because “whoever build that ship ought to be shot.” In Titanic, Garber’s character built the ship. Amazing.
Black Lightning
More comic additions | The CW’s latest superhero offering doesn’t premiere until 2018 and hasn’t even shot a full pilot, but it still had its own panel at Comic-Con. Not much was announced that fans didn’t already know, but the showrunners did reveal two characters from the comic books would show up on the series. James Remar joins as a series regular, playing Peter Gambi, the oldest friend of Jefferson Pierce (series star Cress Williams). Gambi is Jefferson’s father figure, mentor and “tailor.” His history with Jefferson goes back farther and deeper than anyone knows, and Gambi’s role in Jefferson’s life will become a painful window into the past that will affect the future of their relationship forever. Series regular Damon Gupton will play Inspector Henderson, a veteran officer of the law who is now the highest-ranking detective on the force.
