it was late at night, the room lit up by a flickering candle that smelt like vanilla that was gifted to you from an old lady in jackson. the room was cozy, ever since you moved in with ellie there were new crochet blankets draped over couches and beds and chairs, new trinkets and decorations scattered throughout the place you both shared.

ellie had a late night patrol that day and you sat on the couch, reading a book while humming some tune.

the sound of a doorknob twisting echoed throughout the room as you sat up, looking towards the girl who entered the room, her face illuminated by a warm glow. she looked tense, body trembling slightly with clothes dirtied up with blood and god knows what.

you frowned slightly at the sight. watching as she slipped off her boots and set them to the side and slowly taking off her jacket, hanging it on a rack that contained the shared jackets and coats,

it took a second for her to calm down, walking towards the couch with a weak smile. “hey, baby..” ellie rasped, kissing your forehead.

“hi els, you okay?” brows furrowed and eyes scanning her body, you rubbed her shoulder softly.

she nodded, scratching her ear. you knew those movements, she always had these little anxiety motions she did when nervous or uncomfortable, and of course you noticed. “hm.. let’s get you a bath, that sound good?” you smile softly, kissing her cheek and standing.

clothes were thrown to the corner of the small bathroom, ellie standing to the side as you turn the nob and adjust the water to a nice temperature and filled the tub.

she got in, laying between your legs as you wet her hair and grabbed the bottle of shampoo, scrubbing it into her auburn locks.

these moments stitched ellie’s heart up, being able to do intimate things with you she was never able to do with any people she had met. to have a kind moment without it having to be sexual, it calmed her. ellie’s shoulders fell and a sigh slipped from her lips when you massaged her head and ran a rag over her body and the scratches that littered her skin. running your fingers over her tattoo, the matching bracelets you both had, her birthmarks, everywhere.

it was quiet except for your humming of one of ellie’s songs she showed you one time and the sound of water splashing. it was actually on your first date when the two went to stargaze. she had brought her guitar and played you one of ‘ellie’s originals’ and it’s just stuck ever since.

a towel raked down ellie’s frame as you led her to the bed in only her underwear, checking out some of her scars she had gotten. her once trembling body now settled to a slight shake, the one she usually had. the tense shoulders and neck now calmed.

“what happened on patrol, baby?” you ask with slight concern lacing your tone. it must’ve been something worrying if she is this quiet and shook. ellie seemed to take a sharp breath when you asked, hesitating slightly.

“…me and jesse were on this trail, and we saw this clicker— runner. but it was a kid,” the green eyed girl paused, swallowing. “and i could hear his cries, you know? when they’re fighting the infection. he came at me i couldn’t kill him, i couldn’t.” ellie looked down in shame, voice shaking as she spoke softly.

though most didn’t see it, she had a sweet soul. under her tough demeanor and furrowed brows that you had to constantly remind her to relax. “the— the blood is his.” ellie’s voice minimized to a soft murmur at the end, playing with her fingers.

“that’s okay, els. don’t worry okay? doing this probably put him out of his misery, you did good. it’s okay..” you reassured, standing up and hugging her. ellie’s head rested against your stomach as you stroked her wet head, feeling warm breaths brush against your skin. “cmon, lay down.”

a smile tugs at your lips as she crawls to her side of the bed, covering her body with a blanket that was covered in small stars and space symbols. you follow, laying next to the girl.

ellie’s head rests on your bare chest, matching her breathing to everytime your chest rose and fell, listening to your heartbeat. the two girls legs are entangled, skin on skin. you pressed soft kisses to her temple, forehead, hair, everywhere. she calmed at your touch everytime, only yours.

A New Space

It seems that life is bringing on a move earlier than expected, and I'm overwhelmed with anxieties of the unknown and entering adulthood when I'm literally just a girl... but alas. Let's focus on the exciting part: curating a new space.

I'm lucky to be moving with my friend who is just as delusional as me, and we've decided on a shabby chic South of France chateau aesthetic. I've been touring houses with a fabulous realtor who has been finding us--as he puts it--"grandma homes" for us to fill with our girly trinkets.

The vibe is lived in. Comfortable. Eclectic. Controlled Chaos. Quaint.

That bottom left bedroom belongs to someone in Batman? Might have to watch the movie now...

I'm so drawn to the rich, dusty colors. Deep purples mixed with fresh, mossy greens and dusty roses.

Headboard and Above the Bed Decorations

I love the contrast of heavy wrought iron bed sets with girlish lightweight drapery, or hole-y crochet throws. There is also something so stunningly gorgeous about a white painted wood riddled with paint chips and sanding.

Above the bed accessories as opposed to headboards are also hot. And economically viable. How else is a girl supposed to create her dream space while maintaining monthly closet shopping sprees?

Over the Top Lampshades

Lampshades are one of those things I've tricked myself into believing I could make after binge-watching lampshade makers on TikTok. I'm obsessed with the shabby chic style of these, and I think that style can be very forgiving and shabby on the top half when paired with a good base.

I am especially drawn to the chandeliers. We have at least three hanging around in the attic and basement of my house just waiting to be loved, but I'm not sure about the hanging situation at the new place. Hoping I'll be able to figure out some way to incorporate them

Tying it All Together

Finally, I have a surplus of lace curtains and crochet doilies from past moxie collections that I would love to put to use for a DIY like this. I think this style of curtains are especially fabulous while being pretty simple to recreate, and I could see this extending into table runners, pillow cases, etc.

It haunts me

For years, I’ve wondered why I feel so drawn to Appalachia. For decades, I’ve wondered why I get that feeling in my chest when I see mountains. Me, a girl whose address hasn’t been more than 250 feet above sea level in twenty three years. I question it. Feeling, at times, like a person pretending to be from the mountains. Despite living on one for years more than two decades ago.

But I found myself in this book.

Reading this was like closing my eyes and feeling that dark green surface of the Violet Street porch under my bare feet again. Feeling a cool metal mixing bowl on my knee while I picked sun-warmed green beans from the garden out back. The buttered rice I ate in the simple floral patterned bowl over the white crochet table runner that is generations old. My grandma setting the table like dealing cards, mismatched napkins. The hairpin turn on PA 56 heading up the ridge. Sitting at the top of the Inclined Plane not realizing the importance of the space between the summit and the sky.

Reading this, I found the roots of the man who raised me. I found stories kin to the ones I’d been told a hundred times. Stories mostly told by the women who shaped him. Women who are tall as trees in my memories. Big boned with constant grins and fists on their hips.

I am drawn there because it’s a form of home. It’s where my family’s from. Those roots are my roots.

Now, I only wonder how I missed it.

The other day, I bent to pick something up and steadied myself by bracing my hand on the corner of the bed. Not my hand though. My fist. Knuckles pressing down into the mattress. Suddenly I was back on Violet Street, trailing after my grandma. She dropped a piece of clothing, grabbed it, and pushed herself back up with her fist. Grinned and winked at me as she tossed it to my waiting hands.

Tall as trees with footsteps as big as branches are wide. Their leaves turn over when storms are coming. I know them. Their photos and recipe cards and notes fill shoeboxes in my home. Shoeboxes they gave me on the porch waiting for their neighbors on Violet Street to come sit a while. I knelt on the dark green surface by their chairs flipping through boxes of my family’s roots in black and white, learning at their feet.

Final Day Weight Loss Challenge

I’m a runner, I’ve ran cross country for 5 years and am about to start my sixth season next month

I have a cat named chichi who’s named after jisoo from blackpink. She’s very cuddly and overall adorable 🥹

I’m a space nerd. I love looking at pictures captured by the James Webb telescope and plan to get some form of engineering degree in hopes to one day become a aerospace engineer

I’m really crafty. I knit, sew, and crochet. And I’m pretty good at those as well. I’m currently making a bunch of crochet cat ear beanies for a charity

I’ve played instruments quite a bit. In middle school I picked up violin and quickly became really good at it. Won gold in a solo competition and preformed in my schools ensemble. I quit though because I got bored. Now I play piano and am trying to learn guitar

I look nothing like my tumblr layout may suggest I look like. I have ear gauges, a shit ton of facial piercings, dress in a lot of black, pajama-like clothing. throughout these thirty days I might not have lost much weight but I’m very proud of myself for even losing anyways. For a majority of this challenge I was on antipsychotics that made me bed ridden with body sores and made my stomach basically a bottomless pit. I officially quit the meds the other day and had been taking a smaller dose a week prior. I’m pretty proud of myself and hopefully me being almost out of the 100’s means I’ll reach my 98.8 lbs gw this month 🙏

Mon 6th May '24

I saw another Monday morning come and go without me weighing myself and I thought, "Fuck it!" I COULD have done it, but then didn't. I remembered before I got dressed or ate anything, but couldn't bring myself to, in case I am over 200lb again. From 137lb at one point.

But I'm not dwelling on that.

I went for a walk. Didn't sit in the house all day, crocheting and watching Judge Judy. I ate only proper food, nothing ultra processed, and cooked from scratch. I bought no diet cola. I'm going to put my DFM* addiction to bed! I am! I plan to get up early tomorrow and go for a sun rise walk. A podcast I started listening to "Just One Thing" suggests one easy thing each episode that you can do to improve your life. Today's was an early morning walk. I can do that! I might even break into a trot every now and then, to start the running ball rolling again.

I miss being a runner, instead of someone who identifies as a runner! 😁

Another year gone, another year of projects! I finished about 8 projects this past year, and a few were really big ones. Let’s take a look:

First, I finished my cross stitch project I had started in October of 2020. I made it for my Dad for what was supposed to be Hannukkah, but it ended up being a late birthday present. It is about 33 inches tall!

I then did a few different baby blankets, and a cross stitch piece I did in 2 hours one night. My mom hadn’t gotten a cross stitch piece for the holidays, so for Mother’s Day I made her the Nightmare Before Christmas piece.

I also made a macaron cross stitch piece for my boyfriends step mom for Mother’s Day. Her favorite dessert is macarons, so I thought it would be a nice thing to give her.

The two purple pieces are of the same yarn. I had to use two and a little bit of this Cheshire Cat skeins to make the baby blanket, so I used the rest of it to make a shawl.

At the start of May, I started making a Star Wars scarf for my boyfriend for the holidays. I thankfully finished it right before Hannukkah. It was supposed to be a scarf, but it ended up being over 12 feet long! We are now using it as a bed runner in our apartment.

And finally, I got some cross stitch patterned pillow cases from an estate sale. They were unfinished, and not made by someone who has cross stitched or embroidered before, so I am remaking them with her color choices. My boyfriend and I sleep rather roughly, so I want them to be made in a way that we won’t undo the stitching.

That is all that I was able to finish during the year, but I am already partially done with two new blankets. One is crochet, which I have just learned how to do after years of trying to do, and the other is knitted squares that I am sewing together. The last project that I am working on is the other pillow case, but I can’t make any progress cause it’s at our apartment and I am currently quarantining with my parents
