     On May 3, 2024, Neptune shifted into the anaretic degree of Pisces, marking a major milestone for the outer planet and us. In astrology, the anaretic degree refers to the 29th degree of any sign. This degree holds a unique significance, often regarded as a critical point of transition and culmination within a zodiacal sign. Understanding the anaretic degree requires delving into the broader context of astrological symbolism and the cyclical nature of the zodiac.

     This degree—the 29th degree—has always been a degree of interest to me, as I have one of my personal planets in the degree. It is one of the “fame degrees” but I’ve always attributed a lot of my troubles, lessons, and struggles to this degree. I’ve also realized over the years just how critical this degree is in the good parts of my personality: my drive, urgency, and tenacity to DO SOMETHING. With that in mind, I’d like to dive deeper into the 29th degree in astrology, paying special attention to how it manifests in this ongoing transit of Neptune in Pisces.  

Anaretic Degree Meaning in Astrology

     At its core, the zodiac consists of 12 signs, each representing different archetypal energies and qualities. As the Sun traverses through each sign over the course of a year, it reaches its culmination point at the 29th degree before transitioning into the subsequent sign. This transition embodies a sense of completion, marking the end of one cycle and the beginning of another.

     The term "anaretic" is derived from the Greek word "anareta," meaning "destroyer" or "bringer of necessity." Hey, love! I'm still what I would consider a "baby" astrologer, so please take what resonates and leave what doesn't! I am by far a professional, but I appreciate the request to explore. ♡ Within your public image, you may be drawn to highlighting details that people tend to ignore. I've always seen Scorpio as an intense, reflective energy when in interaction to other people. The "intensity" is the actual draw of secrecy and the unconscious urge to dig a little deeper into the depths of things. Other people may notice that there is a privacy that you like to keep, almost a "shadow" upon your personal life. With it being in the 0°, it would most likely heighten this behavior. You may be very energetically direct, but the seclusion you take compared to, let's say, a Leo placement, makes the other person in interactions feel almost watched or potentially judged. You may not be casting the official judgement, but the lack of true openness (or mental boundary) creates an intrigue that promotes a self-reflection in the other person. That is why Scorpio is linked so easily towards obsession — people naturally have an inclination towards mystery in addition to Scorpios having an innate capacity to discover. is there any significance in degrees for planets and signs in your natal chart? if so, what are the meanings behind them?

yes!!!!! and there's more than one way to consider them so i'm just going to mention what comes right to mind.

the most important thing about them is when things have the same degree (even in different signs) as each other because these will be the tight aspects, the strongest interactions in your chart.

the 29th and 0 degrees of any sign are also important, this is where things get wrapped up and started fresh. you can look up critical and anaretic degrees. sometimes critical degrees include some additional degrees but i find that none of them are as useful as 29 and 0.

also you can look into the sabian symbols. personally i don't use these much, but they are interesting to look at and think about. there is a sabian symbol for every degree of the sky.

and also you can look into fixed stars. these actually do move slightly, very very slowly over many many years due to the solar system's motion through the galaxy. but pretty much each star is at its own degree for the long haul. people get especially worked up about algol, spica, sirius, fomalhaut, and regulus, but there are loads of fixed stars, each of which has its own special (usually intense) meaning.

If you don’t know that asteroid is all about huge attainment and status. In my natal chart is not very prominent but it is in retrograde Libra in the 2nd house Sextile Fama and square Saturn.

That’s a whole other thing to unpack but I was looking at the persona chart and 🫥

Yes, of course ! So, these are called critical degrees in astrology.

Planets at the 0 degree of a sign, indicate that you are starting a new beginning with the energy and earthbound day to day life manifestations of the planet. You have completed a cycle of reincarnations and experiences with it, and now you are given a new meaning, a new lifeline in this direction, a clean slate, so to speak, to explore other brand new and fascinating aspects of this planet.

For example, someone with The Sun in 0 degrees of a sign, is incarnated in this life to start all over again in their self expression on a course of a higher level than the previous cycle and lessons. The progressed chart is an extremely slow chart and it can be used to predict situations and changes in a native's life because of its characteristic of being slower. It is a tool to measure eventual changes or phases that may be starting in a person's life, since for many years certain points on the progressed chart remain the same.

Duration of some planetary movements on the progressed chart:

The progressed Moon moves approximately 13° each year. Progressed moon changes sign and house in 2-3 years, which contrasts greatly with the transiting Moon, which changes house and sign in about 3 days;

The progressed Sun spends approximately 30 years in a sign and a house, moving about 1 degree per year;

Mercury spends about 30 years in a house and in a sign, as it also moves very little in a year: a little more than 1 degree, so it tends to be faster than the Sun;

Mars can spend about 60 years in a sign or house, because in the progressed chart it moves at half a degree per year.

Therefore, the change of house or sign can mark relevant changes in the life of a native.

MERCURY

Jung Hoseok is currently with his Mercury in Aquarius in the last degrees. Natal Mercury in Pisces that went retrograde and moved into Aquarius.

That is, he is with Mercury in Aquarius at 29 degrees. This means that soon, probably later this year, he will have progressed Mercury in Pisces.

MERCURY RETROGRADE

This Mercury retrograde on the progressed chart, even touching Aquarius, brought Hoseok a need for introversion, to turn his mind inward. Jung Hoseok grew up with his Mercury retrograde, having experienced for many years, probably from his childhood/adolescence until now, a different Mercury experience than expected. He grew up with a Mercury retrograde influence, and it is as if he was gradually working his mind and expression after both the retrograde and direct Mercury in Aquarius experiences. It's as if Mercury's development is a little late, and it's reaching a crucial point, a certain major peak, at this current moment (2022).

I can have trouble contextualizing what a planet in a sensitive/critical degree in 0-1 degrees of a sign does. I've heard that degree be described as immature or pure, but what does that MEAN? However, I heard a description recently that described it as being in the "shallows" of the sign, and it being harder to cultivate deeper manifestations. Somehow that makes more sense to me, based on the people in my life with planets on the 0th degree: where they are really most comfortable in expressing the shallow or surface-level associations (good or bad) of that sign and have difficulty cultivating deeper and more higher vibration aspects especially compared to anaretic (29th degree) of the sign which tends to more easily grasp the deeper and higher vibration manifestations of traits. But, when they do manage to reach that higher vibration and maturity, having worked from the ground up to it, they have a stronger grasp of their traits and make stronger leaders (especially cardinal 0 degrees) compared to the anaretic degrees, who may seem a little untethered or esoteric in comparison.

When transit Venus conjuncts your North Node it is possible that somethings significant will occur regarding your finances or your love life. I had a friend who had met a significant romantic partner when transit Venus made an exact conjunction to her natal North node.

You may decide to buy a new car (or get a car) when you have your Solar Return Venus or Jupiter in the 3rd house.

People with Venus-Mars aspects especially the conjunction tend to be very attractive to the opposite sex. Even if they are not considered to be “conventionally attractive” people seem to find them charming at the very least. Individuals with hard Venus-Mars aspects often have high sex drives too.

Venus conjunct the composite ascendant can show a couple that is openly affectionate with each other, even if their rising sign is in a more subdued sign like Capricorn or Virgo. However, this may not always be true if Saturn also makes a conjunction or square to the ascendant.

I know I’ve mentioned it before but I just recently did a solar return reading where the client confirmed this was true for them. A solar return year where you have Chiron or Neptune in the 11th house can indicate a loss of a friendship. This loss may not be permanent but it can result in a certain level of heartache for you during the year.

People with mercury conjunct lilith in the 3rd house often have to deal with slander or people spreading information about them that isn’t always true.

Although Uranus square Chiron is technically an aspect that many people have (those with their Uranus in Capricorn and Chiron in Libra) depending on the orb, most people with this aspect feel as if they don’t fit in or they feel out of place in the world in some capacity. Chiron represents our deepest wounds in this lifetime. Thus, people with this aspect tend to feel alienated , ‘different’, or ‘weird’.

Individual’s with Neptune aspecting their Ascendant can often be accused of having plastic surgery. Often times they do (especially if they also have Venus-Pluto aspects). However, these people can be accused of changing their entire faces even if they have had minimal work done. Ariana Grande, Kylie Jenner, Khloe Kardashian (she has the sextile) and Kim Kardashian are celebrity examples. Please note that these examples likely have had a lot of work done, I’m just using well-known people. It’s also common for people to want to look like people who have Neptune aspecting their Ascendant.

People with many oppositions, squares, and retrograde planets in their birth charts tend to be very resilient. This is because they often have to overcome adversities and challenges that are represented by the planets that are being challenged or constantly being brought up by retrogrades and hard aspects.

I honestly have found that looking at the condition of the ruler of the 7th house can also tell you a lot about a persons relationship patterns. For example, I know someone who is an Aquarius rising, and a Libra Sun. Thus, the ruler of their descendent in Leo, is their Libra Sun. The Sun is in its fall when it is in Libra. Furthermore, this particular persons Sun receives squares from Neptune and Mercury. It also receives a 1 degree opposition from Saturn. Long story short, she tends to attract relationships with people who are dishonest or deceptive in some way. If not dishonest they tend to be overly critical or restrictive. This is not to say she is doomed when it comes to these relationship patterns. Her awareness has helped her make better decisions in love, I just thought it was interesting. I must add that her natal Venus is well aspected (as in it receives trines and sextiles from the other planets).
