if you ship: nia x van you: can't tell the difference between a healthy relationship involving two people of the opposite sex and a romantic one. seriously... this ship is WEIRD.

I… have no idea what’s popular or not tbh so I will go with “kinda random”: she’s autistic… maybe? It’s a cool headcanon I like.

so what do I mean by that. well. it’s not perfect, obviously. but! while everyone around was going wut??? back when they first met they were communicating without getting upset???

like, Indigo just rolls with her questions best he can and asks for clarification when needed. It’s… surprisingly drama free, esp for him. i’m p sure she’s the only one he hasn’t upset???? and it’s not like he’s doing it on purpose every time so I guess that makes her the only one he vibes with properly so far?? which is so FUCKING weird like he’s a rude DJ and she’s a dictator how dare they actually get along. what the fuck. it’s amazing.

and regarding Ylil— well one of her issues (she hasn’t appeared a LOT compared to him so I might be wrong, but my impression so far) is that she doesn’t have a lot, if any balanced relationships. She wants what’s best for Yma, for example, but she still orders her around in private, Yma still calls her Judge. Ylil uses it to shut down her anxiety but that’s still SUPER dangerous, like, confidence is good but it’s better to have people around who aren’t afraid to criticise you. it’s grounding and necessary, esp for a leader! and she doesn’t seem to have that

and what does Indigo do during the date? Explicitly tell her she’s wrong. and she doesn’t like it. she’s like, doubt (x). but he PROVES her assumptions wrong, and she’s— well, flabbergast— but she ACCEPTS she was wrong— she’s surprised and speechless for a bit, but she wants to know more and that’s good. that must’ve been kinda?? humbling?? that she didn’t pick up at all on his secret??? like that’s good for her.

and like. rn he’s still intimidated by her after their date but with time he’ll probably grow more casual, he doesn’t mind the Prez too much. and thats!!! good!!! she needs that kinda thing, she’s a dictator in her twenties and Yma’s busy with her own personal anxiety/problems how is she NOT gonna make mistakes if nobody’s there to bring her back to earth once in a while.

and meanwhile he wants to know more about her, too and that’s GOOD because one of his main problems besides speaking in a way most people systematically misunderstand is he doesn’t interest himself to other people properly (like not picking up on Harold’s bad mood or not listening to Pi sharing something important to him). sO LIKE BASICALLY, they kinda do/could trigger cascades of self improvement/healthiness in each other and that’s DELICIOUS.

no to mention all the horrible ways it can go wrong. just. aaaah. i love.

in conclusion it’s got fun potential and it’s beautiful CQ u are too good at characters what the fuck.

I know we're supposed to respect each other's opinions and all but the truth is it breaks my heart a tiny bit whenever people talk about how kataang is the obvious choice. I've been watching reaction vids recently about the series and I honestly couldn't understand why people think that the fortuneteller episode was a dead giveaway for the ending. That K & A were practically flirting (??!!!) the whole episode and he IS a powerful bender. To me, that episode was one of the most anti-kataang ones.

That’s the beauty of it - we all work from the same source material, sometimes coming to widely different conclusions. When I saw The Fortuneteller, I felt that Aang’s and Meng’s crushes were put in parallel on purpose, showing them to be both childish, one-sided crushes, and that it would foreshadow Aang becoming more self-aware about his crush on Katara and letting it go. It also felt like the prophecies were never meant to be taken seriously. But I guess we were supposed to go with the literal “Katara will marry a powerful bender” interpretation. (It still could have been a large number of people, including Toph and Azula just to mention a few crackships, but whatever).

@marsreds wrote a detailed meta on this episode that I largely agree with.

I don’t think K/A was the obvious endgame romance - or if it was, they did a bad job of writing it. Taking The Fortuneteller as the starting point, for example it would have been crucial to show organically how it goes into a mutual interest, which the didn’t. I hate it that they reduced it to a will they - won’t they twisty guessing game. That’s a very poor writing choice (which they repeated in LoK).

But I mostly just hate that they gave it such a prominent spot in the end. For me, that was absolutely unnecessary in the narrative of the show - a platonic ending focusing on the Gaang would have been much more satisfying.

As for those other fans, I think it’s normal that if you like a ship you will pick and focus on the details that support it (I mean we all do this to an extent, don’t we? :).

People liking the canon ships will not make your non-canon ship any less valid, and you can enjoy the content you like without having to disprove them. Just focus on the pairing that you enjoy, with all the elements that support it and the content created for it. Luckily, this is a thriving fandom for a large variety of non-canon ships.

About your post 'light is good'. There are sun rays hitting Dany in the scene where Jon holds Dany's hand as well. Dany is a good hearted person so do us all a favor, stop demonizing her and accept Jonsa will never happen. Jonerys is endgame, they are the Song of Ice and Fire, Melisandre confirmed this. Stop waisting your time analyzing the books and the show to try and find clues for your crackship, it will never ever happen they only see each other as brother and sister and that's it.

Sorry, but Jon calling her D@ny like Viserys used to do, means nothing good for your ship or D@ny… and the light shifting from her to Longclaw as soon as she says Viserion used to call her that confirms that and to me screams, betrayal.

I want to add that you cannot blame this shift in light to natural lighting, because that is not natural lighting they’re using. Kit and Em are not on a real boat here, they are on a set somewhere and the light is 100% artificial, which means that they (the director/s and the people whom are in charge with the lighting) have absolute and complete control over how the light moves, over what or whom it does or doesn’t hit.

Besides, light is not always a good thing, it doesn’t always mean good… not to add that here it shifts from light to shadow.

It turns out that, just like how, sometimes Dark Is Not Evil, sometimes Light Is Not Good. Some will view the Light itself as natural, and darkness as nothing more than an absence of it. Others will see Light (fire/dragons/the Lord of LIGHT) as a destructive force, a perversion of the infinite all-encompassing Darkness.

Light Is Not Good is when a character is directly bad, directly villainous — and still has Light powers. Depending on characterization, they might be sympathetic, perhaps well-intentioned but horribly misguided. Or the person could be the most gleefully twisted bastard imaginable.” (source)

Making the gifs and reading this trope I legit got Nissa Nissa, Light Bringer vibes from it, it kinda gave me chills.

Anyhow, not sure if Nissa Nissa will happen in the show, I’m not sure if it’ll happen in the books either, but yeah, those sun rays shifting, D@ny ending up being in the shadows after she says her brother (someone who used her to get what he needed to get the Iron Trone, just like Jon is using her to get her dragons North so he can save everyone from the NK) used to call her that, is not good…

I do believe D@ny started out as good and innocent, but she has gradually become obsessed with power/the Iron Throne, entitled, self absorbed and tyrannical. The D@ny from season 1 and 2 is nowhere to be found/seen, she’s gone/dead, in her place stands a selfish and power hungry woman who only thinks about being Queen and sitting on the Iron Throne, a power hungry woman who sent both Jon and Jorah on a suicide mission so she could get her stupid truce (which she obviously didn’t even get lol) and got one of her dragons killed in the process.

Her being hit by sun rays doesn’t erase all the cruel and horrendous things she has done. lol

Melisandre is wrong all the f*ing time nonny, all the f*ing time. Mel doesn’t know that Jon is half Targ (fire), that he is ice and fire on his own, otherwise she would not have made that statement. She was wrong, as usual.

At least we can analyze stuff, something y'all don’t seem to be able to do or are too lazy to do because “Jondelion is CANON!” (as if it’s set into stone that they’re gonna stay that way lol) “They are the Song of Ice and Fire!” lol

We have valid and backed up agruments, while y'all just go around using the same 2 or 3 stupid arguments to “prove” why your ship is endgame and why Jonsa will never happen.

Y'all mock us for analyzing stuff as if it’s a bad thing or somehow shameful to use our brains and think lol Books are written to be read and analyzed (did you not do this in school?), they are written to make you think, to open your mind, to enrich it, to teach you, same thing goes for tv shows and movies, and that can’t happen if you don’t analyze. There is nothing wrong in analyzing what a director, screen writer, writer etc. is trying to tell you with their book/tv show/movie, and also, it’s good training for the brain, that is, if you’ve got what to train.

I don’t want to go around calling y'all stupid, but I must say that the majority of y'all are VERY superficial to say the least.

- D@ny is good hearted: yeah… no.

1. which starfleet uniform is your favorite?

it’s a close race between the later-season ds9 ones that were introduced for first contact and the red-and-white wrath of khan uniforms. i think both of them reflect the tone of the works they’re in very well and also they look damn cool. i know a lot of people on here don’t like the gray ones but they’ve grown on me big time.

2. do you create any fanworks of your own?

my m.o. before this has been “make fun text posts and call it a day, feat. occasional art”, but yeah for ds9 i’ve written two fanfics and .... WANT to write more, but who fucking knows am i right. in a true-to-brand fun fact, they both involve Jezri Hell in some way.

3. if you could have a holodeck program of your own, what would it be?

if this is assuming i already live in the star trek universe, i think it’d be, like... definitely one of the #historical #rpf ones that all the NERDS on the shows are so fond of. maybe one that lets u hang out with byron and the shelleys for geneva ‘16. or maybe i could do one that’s themed after a dumas novel, that’s the right mix of romanticism and fun adventure

4. your favorite tacky costume in star trek

ooh um it’s a tie between a) the mauve shirt jim kirk is wearing in the search for spock / the voyage home, which makes me Very Angry but is also funny, b) julian bashir’s asymmetrical v-neck, because garak so obviously made it, and c) quark’s vacation look. (GOD i’m so mad at that episode for being bad. i’ve said this like three times now but it SHOULD have been gold.)

5. your favorite character in all of star trek; you’re allowed to choose only one

kiraaaaaa. she was my introduction to ‘women in star trek that are written like actual fucking people’ and i would die for her.

6. if you could change any plot line in any trek media, what would it be?

oh god. um i feel like the objective answer is to fix either a) the maquis storylines on voyager, or b) the development/’mentorship’ of seven, also on voyager, but i haven’t SEEN voyager so i can’t exactly be a #1 source on this. so.... i think i’d change ziyal’s arc so that a) she isn’t used as a convenient resource to straightwash garak, and b) she lives to see the end of the war. waltz still happens tho, i guess she fakes her death or something. dukat’s arc post-waltz is another thing that i think needs fixing (summoning bajoran satan kind of seemed to come out of the left field) but right now i don’t have any good ideas as to how.

7. wackiest crackship pairing?

quark/grantaire from les miserables. they don’t even fuck, they sit in the bar and tell one another all the ways in which they’re terrible people and this gives them sexual gratification. yes i’m aware that i’m the only person who finds this concept funny, am i going to stop bringing it up? hell no. dril voice “i will never log off”. anyway this relationship would be something that’s detrimental for them both and validates their worst aspects, which means it’s an in-character enterprise.

8. favorite rarepair?

kira/cretak!! i like kiradax but after the early seasons they REALLY don’t interact a great deal, and i guess kira/cretak creates lots of exciting post-canon possibilities. that jumja stick conversation? yeah, they need to fuck.

9. episodic storytelling, or serialized storylines?

hmm i mean. this is just in application to star trek (everyone knows the episodic x-files eps are the best ones) but i think i’ll go for serialized; there’s a reason ds9 is my fave, and i’ve been a lot more into dsc lately. that said i like the way ds9 does serialization more than dsc sometimes, in that i wish (i know this isn’t in line with today’s conception of television) that dsc had more in the cards-style episodes, where serialized plots are still happening in the background but the characters get a chance to slow down and relax and have nice things happen to them. we kind of had that with magic to make the sanest man go mad, which i think was one of the strongest early-season dsc episodes; i think we could do with more of that.

10. which is your favorite title theme?

it’s a tie between ds9 (which i am the most emotionally attached to, and which i think sets the tone for the series so well, and it’s ALSO absolutely beautiful) and tng (which is just.... A Fucking Banger)

11. give us an episode that never fails to make you happy, and an episode that never fails to make you sad.

happy: in the cards (jake! nice things happening in times of war!), sad: what you leave behind (jezri! everyone saying goodbye to everyone they love!)
