"Hey, Law?" You called him in the darkness of the kitchen, the poor man had just wanted to get some water and ended up bumping into you in the kitchen.

Before he could even wonder what the hell you were doing in the dark kitchen in the middle of the night, you continued, "Happy birthday."

Birthdays were still strange for Law.

The concept of people around you simply turning to celebrate that you were alive on one day of the year, if you were happy someone was alive, that celebration should be done every day of the year, not just one.

However, he still held the memories of his past birthdays.

The first one he remembered was a surprise birthday his parents had thrown for him. He didn't remember much, but he remembered finding it strange that neither his father nor mother were there to explain some facts about the human body as they always did; they spent the whole day very busy. His friends also seemed a bit strange, as if they were playing something Law wasn't invited to.

But he distinctly remembered coming home later that afternoon and being startled by everyone shouting "surprise!" and starting to sing "happy birthday." He also remembered that at the end of the party, everyone had yellow icing on their faces, even little Lami, who couldn't barely even walk on her own.

The few birthdays he celebrated with the Donquixote Family were actually quite fun. Despite his insistence that he didn't want to celebrate, there was always a big cake in the center of the table with some candles that never matched his age, but you could tell they were at least trying.

Baby 5 and Buffalo always tried to shove his face in the cake, but he always managed to dodge and put their faces in it instead. Somehow, even after the candle was blown out, Corazón still managed to set himself on fire.

Luckily, Law still managed to celebrate one more birthday with Cora-san. During their travels from hospital to hospital, the day Cora had marked on his little calendar finally came, although he had been keeping the date in his head for the past month. The man asked Law to continue without him to the same place where they were sheltered, saying he would arrive soon.

"Hey, Law?" Rosinante called the boy when he finally caught up to him, turning to find the man holding a piece of cake. "Happy birthday!" Cora held a broad smile on his lips.

Little Law thought he would never forget that scene.

The other birthdays were a bit more difficult, just mentioning them made Law shrink and try to change the subject, but eventually, small bargains were made, and the aspiring doctor finally decided he wanted to celebrate his birthday. This was in his last year living with Wolf, it wasn't planned, but he was glad to be able to celebrate his last birthday with the old man.

They celebrated at a small restaurant in Pleasure Town so that the people who lived in the town could also be present. For the first time since Flevance, Law received some gifts: a lab coat with his name embroidered on it, a stethoscope, and some last chapters of "Sora, the Warrior of the Sea", which he couldn't read.

Birthdays in the first years aboard the Polar Tang were more limited, but they were still fun, even if Law didn't always want to celebrate. It was funny to see them try to put together a surprise, but Bepo always ruined it.

It was also funny to see the looks on everyone's faces when Law ordered them to clean up the dining room after the mess they made with the confetti.

However, this year the surprise was in your hands. Luckily, Law was already leaving the office before you could send someone to fetch him; Uni had alerted you through a mini Den Den Mushi, you had left him to watch if Law would leave the room before you prepared everything.

You called him before he could enter the kitchen, making him startle a bit. You approached him before he turned on the lights, with your hands behind your back and the gentlest smile you could muster. "Happy birthday," and the lights were turned on, everyone shouted "surprise" and started singing "happy birthday."

Law stood frozen in place as they sang, his lips parted and his eyes wide. The way you wished him a happy birthday and the way they managed, for the first time, to pull off a successful surprise birthday party, it all reminded him of the past. Shachi and Penguin tried to shove his face in the cake, but a "Room, Shambles!" was enough to leave the cake untouched on the table and Shachi in his place while Penguin burst one of the balloons in his friend's face.

Even in the middle of the night, everyone was there, celebrating the life of their captain, even after spending the entire year showing their gratitude for his presence. Bepo gifted him with a big bear hug, rubbing his cheek against Law's face and wishing him a happy birthday in the way his own people had taught him.

"Captain! Who's the first piece of cake for?" Ikkaku asked. Everyone had their own speculations. Some bet it was for you, others said it was for Bepo, and there were even bolder ones who claimed he would give the piece to themselves.

Law thought for a moment; he wanted to dedicate his piece of cake to a special person, the one who helped him become who he was today. The idea tugged at his heart a little.

"I... Um..." He looked at the piece in his hand and then at the crew in front of him, all smiling, eager for his answer. Law placed the piece further down on the table, in front of everyone. "For all of you..." He murmured, looking away, trying to hide his reddening cheeks.

"CAAAPTAAAAIN!!" There was an emotional chorus, and everyone tried to approach to hug him, but he pleaded desperately for them not to do it.

Law received an expensive (and stolen) stethoscope, as his old one was too worn. He also got some early chapters of "Sora, the Warrior of the Sea" a bit used and with yellowed pages, but from an old collector's edition. He wondered if he would ever receive a lab coat.

Nostalgically, he also wondered if Cora-san would be there to set himself on fire even after the candles were blown out.

Law hugged you tightly some time later and rested his forehead on your shoulder; you simply accepted the embrace, moving your hand to the back of his neck. It was only when he whispered a "thank you" against your skin that you realized he was crying.

He was a discreet man. You just let him cry on your shoulder without saying anything, running your hands over his waist, letting him cry as much as he wanted. You knew his tears weren't of sadness, especially after what he had confessed to you a few days ago.

"I think I'm finally doing what Cora-san wanted me to do", he commented, lifting his eyes from the stack of papers and books on his desk to look at you. "He wanted me to live..." You smiled patiently, reaching him with slow steps.

You took off his hat, running your hand through his hair, pushing the strands that fell on his face back. "Cora-san certainly loved you", you said. "Besides living, I believe he would want you to be happy", Law hugged your waist, pressing his face into your belly. "Are you doing what he wanted?"

He fell silent, thinking of an answer. Now, once again, embraced by you as he hid his face in your neck, Law finally found his answer.

there is a culture here in brazil where you give the first piece of your cake to someone special, only when I discovered that this only happens here, I realized how cute it is.

Cora Lives AU but:

-he’s temporarily lost some of his memories

-he spends his days on an island as a farmer

-chronic pain, retired marine

-as law goes on to form the heart pirates and set sail in the polar tang, years later, they anchor at the very island that cora lives on, the memories flooding back to him as law calls out to cora-san

-they all catch up, cora proud of law for finding a sense of home and found family, happy that he’s alive and well,

-cora sets sail with the group and becomes a heart pirate, he’s still clumsy as hell and everyone watches out for his well being, i.e. setting himself on fire, other clumsy shenanigans

-the crew has one more beloved member and law’s home is a little more lovely

When Law said that if Luffy doesn't win, Law needs to die with him. I believe he said this because Luffy was fighting Doflamingo for Law, just like he proclaimed enemy of WG because of Robin, and same way he proclaimed war with Big Mom because of Fish Island. Luffy doesn't leave his friends hanging, you basically give him food and he will sacrifice his life for you.

Basically in my perspective, Law felt an obligation to die with Luffy if he doesn't win so no more people will die for his sake and make him survivor. He can't handle that survivor guilt anymore, first his parents and sister, then Cora-san, if more people died because of him I feel like Law would struggle so much to remain alive.

You know I was thinking, how will Luffy about turning 20 and 21? Because when he turns 20, he wont be younger than Ace anymore, and when he turns 21, he'll officially be older than he ever was. Similarly, how will Law feel about turning 27 and becoming older than how Corasan ever was? It's something that was in the back of my mind. I knew some people who lost certain loved ones who were older than them, and when they got older than them... it just felt wierd, that's how they describe it. Bittersweet some have told me.

I would yell at you and be angry at how sad this thought makes me, but on the other hand, I just love angst a very insane amount, so this is exactly the type of thing I absolutely love.

I think that Luffy doesn't focus much on age. He focuses on birthdays, of course, I think he'd love birthdays (both for the food and the meaning behind it. I personally think he loves throwing big birthday parties for the crew members because he likes celebrating that they're alive and growing together. Especially when it comes to Robin, Sanji and Brook tbh). But I think he'd feel uneasy when somebody makes a comment about how old and tall he's getting. Like, Sabo would make an innocent comment like "You're growing up so fast, Luf!" and Jinbe (for example) would compare him to Ace the way everyone does, with a proud smile and saying "You look so much like your brother, captain! Might even get taller than him!". And Luffy laughs at that because he's supposedly over Ace's death. He should be. But after a long while thinking about it in the middle of the party, I think he'd start wondering about growing up and the fact that he's getting older than Ace. That Ace will never experience growing up with them. That Luffy never got to spend his last years together because they were apart living their own adventures. And, you know, the fact that he's already accepted his death doesn't mean it doesn't hurt to feel older than your older brother. I think Sabo would notice right away that something's wrong and ask what's going on. And Luffy would just say something like "Ace was twenty when I let him die" (he still has to fix the wording. It's a work in progress) and Sabo understands because now Sabo can't argue against Ace about who's the oldest. Now Sabo is the oldest. And Sabo would try to make things better by placing his arm around Luffy's shoulder and saying: "Well, if it makes you feel any better, just think about his face if he knew you might get older than him! He'd get soo pissed about it! [...] And he'd be so proud of you for growing up, Luf. He'd be so happy, with that big smirk of his and the dumb tilt of head, y'know?". And Sabo just has the right words to make Luffy feel better about growing taller and older than Ace, because he knows that if he's looking after him somewhere, he's smiling wide.

I think the Law thing is harder than this. Because for Law, growing up older than his own father makes him feel guilty. Survivor guilt complex type of shit, you know? He got out of there alive but Cora-san didn't and... And it's just fucked up and unfair and Law just fucking hates this specific birthday. Normally, he doesn't care much about growing up and his birthday, but he ends up having fun because it's just impossible not to do so when Shachi, Penguin, and Bepo always want to throw a party for him. But this time, when he realizes he's getting older than Cora, it hits him. Like a fucking truck. Because he doesn't feel mature enough. He doesn't feel like he has done enough stuff for Cora to be proud (which is stupid because Cora would be proud of him but, y'know, Law's thoughts). He doesn't feel like he deserves to grow up older than his own father. It'd be a hard thing to swallow, honestly. I think he wouldn't stop repeating the words "I love you" in his head, mixed with "Don't try to find a reason for somebody's love" over and over again, trying to make everything better. Because he knows he's acting stupid. But he just can't get over the fact that Cora was this young when he acted like a whole father to him. Law doesn't feel half as mature. But then Bepo (because he's just like that. Caring, loving, Bepo) says something about being glad Law is alive and with them, and it just shatters Law completely. I think Bepo would stay with him for a while in his room until Law just stands up and says something (very softly and trying to keep the waters calm, bc he knows how Bepo is) about throwing a little party. And I think that comment would make him feel a bit better, because Cora fought for him to be alive. He shouldn't waste the gift Cora gave him.

OP Academy chapter 40, 1/2: Cora San

This cover page is incredible. The snowman Luffy built on the Merry, and a snow Onigiri on a snow Bepo take center stage, while Usopp has built a very impressive snow dinosaur in the background.

The majority of the chapter is the gang learning about a tamer version of Law's backstory and his connections to Cora and Doffy, which is being looked into by Student Council Pol 9, in only the most fitting of outfits for the job. Their stoic expressions while wearing these absolutely... unique... outfits. I love it.

After Law tells the story of his past with Doffy and Cora, not fully giving away how it ends, the SHs seems to believe that Cora is dead, due to how Law told it.

We then follow Law as he walks home, he passes through a fake brick wall into a secret underground passage way, walks through a doorway, is greeted by very good dog Onigiri, and Cora is alive and doing domestic house work. And Luffy followed Law home!? Much to the surprise of Law and Cora. Amazing.

Next chapter is on the 14th/15th!

Snowflakes float gently in the air. Law has no idea when it started snowing. There is frost forming around the railing, almost reaching his fingers. Everything seems too calm. An odd sense of dread fills Law as they approach the island. He should finally feel at peace. It all just feels too familiar. Another winter island over a decade ago, it was snowing back then as well.   After defeating Kaido and Big Mom, the Heart pirates momentarily part ways with the Strawhats. They find themselves sailing towards a small winter island in the New World. The island is coated in a heavy blanket of snow, making everything eerily quiet. In the forest, Corazon feels like the last thread of life he is hanging onto is slowly slipping away. Or, Corazon lives.

i keep thinking about law believing sanji was dead not once but twice. like this guy lost his family then cora-san then spent years thinking his little brother first drowned and then later was killed while they were on the same island. like he must be paranoid over sanjis safety (meanwhile sanjis like *offended* "you thought id die so easily?")

Oh gods yes, he is already paranoid as hell and then WCI happens? The Death Pact™️? Listen Sanji isn't making a good case for himself about not dying, okay. Law is perfectly reasonable calling the Sunny every other day to make sure that little fucker is alive. Especially if Bepo is also waiting to talk to Sanji and Shachi and Penguin are taking notes about recipes to make sure Law eats.

Like also at some point Law probably has an injured as fuck Sanji laying with his head in Law's lap and Law is going through it in head. He's carding his hands through his baby brother's hair and thinking of Lami and how fragile life is because they know better than anyone.

Sanji might be trying to prove him wrong, especially with his haki, sky walking, fire legs but Law is always going to be protective. Sanji is strong, no doubt about he's a third of the monster trio but Sanji doesn't have a fruit, he's no king of hell. Sanji is terribly, terribly human unlike his siblings and father. And Law can't help but see Rosinante in the smaller too. So caring and compassionate. And Law reminds Sanji of his mother when he's soft and caring, when he shows it. Sanji is going to get stronger, he serves under a god. He'll show Law he can keep up with them and stay safe, mostly, while doing it.

Law started crying. He's gone. There's no more Cora. It's all his fault! There's no more Cora!....

Something rustled next to him. And then there was a huge noise. It was the sound of Cora hitting his head on the boat"

Cora: OW! Law!?..

"He immediately crawled to him and pressed him to his chest"

Cora: What happened!? Do you have a headache!? Is your fever rose again!?

Law: ... "Hic"... "Hic"... Cora-san?...

Cora: Yes! It's me! What happened, Law? You've got a nightmare, didn't you?

"Law looked at him. At Cora-san. Alive. Law pinched himself, without turning away his gaze. There was pain. He wasn't dreaming"

Cora: It's alright. I have them all the time! The important thing is to smile after that! Because in the end it was all just a dream! Isn't that good, Law? That whatever you had was all a dream?

Law: ....

"Law touched Cora's body, feeling the heat, checking all of the wounds he got because of him. But there was none. Cora-san was fine"

Law: Are you... Alright?

Cora: "Nods with a smile" Don't you remember? I've got Ope-Ope Fruit! And you've ate it! Now the most important part is to learn how to use it! Aren't you happy? Soon you'll be completely healthy.

"Law hugged him and cried. Oh he was SO happy! That Cora-san was alive. That he wasn't hurt! That they can travel together!

Cora nervously hugged him back, despite hitting his head on the boat again"

Cora: Wha-!? What? What happened? It's alright, Law! I'm here! I'm alive! I'm fine! We're safe now. It's alright...

Law: Cora-saaaan! You're alive! I'm so happy! So happy!

Cora: Eh-? You-.. You're... "Tears up" Happy that I'm alive?

"They both cried happy tears, hugging each other. After a while they're both layed down together, falling asleep"

Law: ...You now what, Cora-san?

Cora: Yes, Law?

Law: I love you

Cora: ...

Cora: "Teared up again"

Cora: I LOVE YOU TOO, LAAAAAAW!!!

My sister and I were re-watching Law's backstory when I discovered the perfect little detail that if modified could create a "For Want of a Nail" AU where Corazón survives and Law still gets the Ope Ope no Mi, without making the fic unrealistic or out-of-character at all!

First, let me recap the sequence of events that took place on Minion Island which ultimately led to Cora-san's untimely demise:

Cora-san and Law arrive at Minion Island. Cora-san at first tries to leave Law on the boat by himself, but Law stops him and makes sad eyes at him until he relents and takes Law with him—but not all the way. Cora-san leaves Law in an abandoned house in town, where Law wanders out onto the steps and falls asleep as snow rains down on him.

Cora-san attacks the Barrels Pirates and makes off with the Ope Ope no Mi. During his escape, he trips and falls and winds up surrounded by Barrels Pirates with guns. He gets away alive, but not before being shot several times.

One of the pirates—a kid with an X-shaped scar on his chin—flees the scene.

Cora-san heads back to Law with the Ope Ope no Mi.

When he finds Law asleep on the steps, Cora-san—for whatever reason—picks him up and carries him off somewhere before waiting for him to wake up to force-feed him the Devil Fruit.

Cora-san collapses. Before he can lose consciousness, he passes Law a capsule cylinder and tells him to deliver it to the Marines.

Law goes off on his own, trudging his way through the snow. He chickens out on approaching the first group of Marines that pass, but works up the courage to approach the next—Vergo—when he sees that he's alone. But before Vergo can leave, he begs him to come with him to perform first aid on Cora-san.

Vergo goes with Law, and when he sees Rosinante he immediately attacks him before reading the secret message and then brutally beating him; Law gets kicked around as well. With them down for the count, Vergo calls Doffy and relays the situation to him.

While he's distracted, Cora-san uses his Calm Calm Fruit to sneak away undetected. He hides Law in a treasure chest and uses his fruit to silence him and anything he touches.

Doflamingo and the rest of the Don Quixote Pirates descend on the island and begin to hunt Cora-san and Law down after Doffy creates a Birdcage for the first time.

The child with scar on his chin manages to get far enough away that he's clear of the Birdcage when it comes down. Afterwards, he is found by Marines and taken aboard their ship.

Cora-san makes himself bait and gets chased down and beaten while Law listens from his place trapped in the treasure chest. They hold back from killing him so Doffy can interrogate him about the locations of the Ope Ope no Mi and Law.

Cora-san tells him that Law ate the fruit and was promptly taken into custody by the Marines.

Almost immediately after, Baby 5 and Buffalo inform Doffy that they overhead a Marine transmission about finding a boy and taking him aboard their ship, thus convincing Doffy that Cora-san was telling the truth.

Doffy shoots Rosinante repeatedly. As he lay dying, the Don Quixote Pirates make off with the treasure chests.

With Law on the other side and Rosinante permanently down for the count, Doffy takes down the now seemingly pointless Birdcage.

As they are loading the treasure onto their ship, Tsuru shows up and chases them off the island forces them to hurry up and leave. Unbeknownst to them, Law sneaks off in the chaos.

Law escapes to the neighboring Sparrow Island, presumably with the small sailboat he and Cora-san had been traveling in.

...OK, I'll admit I went a little overboard with the details there, so allow me to quickly recap:

Rosinante and Law arrive on Minion Island.

Rosi wants to leave Law on the boat, but he refuses.

Law is left in a house instead as Rosi steals the Ope Ope no Mi.

Rosi is caught and heavily injured but manages to get away.

He returns to give Law the fruit before collapsing.

Law is sent off to deliver a message to the Marines, and he returns with Vergo who beats him and Rosi and contacts Doffy to spill everything.

In the background, Rosi quietly sneaks off.

Doffy arrives and puts up the Birdcage, forcing Rosi to take desperate measures to ensure Law's freedom and survival.

Rosi hides Law in a chest and uses himself as bait, convincing Doffy that Law had already escaped with the fruit in his belly.

Doffy kills Rosi and takes down the Birdcage.

Before he can loiter, Tsuru shows up to chase him off.

Law escapes on his own to the closest neighboring island.

Got that? Good. Now, here's how we can quickly and easily fix things so that most of the bad stuff never happens:

In the very beginning, Cora-san originally intends to leave Law on the boat while he gets the fruit, but Law stops him.

What would've happened if he hadn't?

With his sickness, Law has been in and out of it, often falling asleep. What if he'd been asleep when they first arrived and, rather than wake him up, Cora-san chose to leave Law a note telling him that he'd be back soon with the Ope Ope no Mi.

Law would have no way of following him had he eventually woken up, since Cora-san had to climb a very long rope to get to land.

As Law was not only sick and dying, but also far smaller than Cora-san, it's fair to say that he would have absolutely no luck trying to climb that rope.

Now, since Law is in the boat rather than in town, Cora-san's next destination after obtaining the Ope Ope no Mi would be to head back to the boat immediately.

I assume the reason he took Law to that broken wall in canon rather than feed him the fruit in town was because he was worried about being out in the open whilst the Barrels Pirates were all hunting him down—but he would have had no reason to do so had Law still been in the boat since that was far more hidden than some random half-wall could ever be.

...Plus it also had the potential for a quick getaway considering it's literally a boat.

Now let's try that scene again, but this time with Law and Cora-san in their little sailboat:

Law wakes up to a smiling Cora-san leaning over him with the Ope Ope no Mi in hand. Cora-san force-feeds him the fruit before collapsing. He then passes Law the capsule cylinder with the secret message, and tells him to pass it on to the Marines.

Now what does Law do? Does he go on the island to find a Marine? No! The kid is dying and can barely walk; Why would he do that when there's a perfectly good Marine ship parked just a little ways away? Especially since there's no way he'd even be able to climb that rope to get onto the island anyways, not unless Rosinante yeeted him up there or something.

Now, instead of running off, Law struggles to row the boat over to the nearby Marine ship. There, he is spotted by the Marines, the secret message is passed over, Rosinante's identity is verified, and Law is taken aboard the ship—for real this time.

In this scenario, Vergo is on the island when Rosinante and Law board the Marine ship. Maybe he hears a transmission about a boy and a heavily injured man being taken aboard, or maybe not. Maybe he identifies the man as Rosinante and reports it to Doffy, or maybe not.

It doesn't matter either way since they're now in Marine custody, under Marine protection, and there's nothing Vergo can do about it without breaking his cover.

In the meantime, considering the Marines' original reason for being there in the first place, the ship would undoubtedly be stocked with medical supplies and medics themselves, so that Rosinante would be able to receive prompt medical treatment—on Sengoku's orders, if nothing else.

Sengoku would likely command the ship to head straight towards him wherever he is, seeing as they most likely would have had to contact him personally to confirm Rosinante's identity.

Maybe he'll return to Sengoku and resume working as a Marine, or maybe not.

And seeing as he only had a few bullet holes in him at this point—which he was canonically able to run and jump around with, only really slowing down after Vergo and the other DonQuixote Pirates had beat the hell outta him and Doffy had shot him several more times—he should be able to recover just fine.

Before he died, there was a scene in canon where Rosinante had mentioned wanting to travel the world with Law once he was cured... Maybe in this AU they'll do exactly that.

Seeing as how Rosinante technically betrayed the Marines, it's entirely possible that not even Sengoku will be able to completely sweep it under the rug. At that point, it's not completely unbelievable that Rosinante and Law might wind up as pirates—for real this time—traveling the world and having adventures together.

Maybe they'll even drop by Sparrow Island for a bit, maybe pick up a kid or two...

...or a polar bear, even. You never know.

Heavy angst, where law breaks up with his s/o (fem preferably) before leaving to take down doffy and says some nasty things just to hurt her. When in reality he just doesn't want her to follow him because it's dangerous?!? With a Happy ending ig?

It’s not so much a preference, so much as that’s what people request, I write 90% of the requests I receive, so if I get a lot of Ace, I write a lot of Ace. 

Tears streamed down your cheeks, hand over your mouth as you stared at him in shock. Was he really breaking up with you? Was this really your Law? The same Trafalgar Law who had once told you he’d love you for an eternity, who said he’d do anything for you? The dark haired man glared at you, the same cold, hard glare he gave people he hated.

“What? Nothing to say? Are you really so shocked? You’re such a naive little girl, believing every word I said. This is what I hate about you, you’re weak, you’re naive, you can’t ever seem to do anything right.” Law scoffed, shoving his hands in his pockets and looking away, “I don’t even know why I’m wasting my time here, clearly even someone as stupid as you can understand what’s happening. Your stuff is at the inn, the crew insisted I at least give you that much.” he said before walking away. You felt your legs give out, dropping to your knees as you tried to hold back the sobs. With his back finally to you, Law pulled his hat down over his eyes, tears starting to make their way down his own cheeks. He knew what he’d said had been harsh, but he needed you to hate him, to absolutely despise him. It was for your own good. He’d be facing some tough enemies soon, his plan to take out Doflamingo was going to be dangerous and he couldn’t have you caught in the crossfire. He loved you too much to allow that to happen. So he’d make you loathe him, make you never want to see him again, and it would break his heart every day. You’d slept by his side, listened to his past, and calmed him on his worst days. Never again, he’d never again sleep next to you, spend hours talking to you, feel your arms wrapped around him in comfort. He knew it would hurt, he knew that even in the off chance Doflamingo didn’t kill him, the pain of losing you very well might. But you’d be safe, that’s all that mattered was that you were safe. You were strong, you’d move on, you’d grow and change, you’d find happiness elsewhere, happiness that wasn’t with him. That thought struck a dagger through his heart. You wouldn’t be happy with him. The happiness that he’d wanted to share with you always was no longer something he could have. But he wouldn’t risk losing you to Doflamingo, he’d lost too many people already. His parents, his sister, Cora-san, he wouldn’t lose you too and especially not to Doflamingo. At least this way, even if he suffered for the rest of eternity, you’d be alive, you’d find happiness, and that’s what mattered. 

Slowly, you made your way to the inn and up to your room, the sobs finally escaping you as you collapsed onto the bed. You knew you weren’t the strongest person in the world, you knew you made mistakes, but you were only human. The things Law had said, however. Were you really that useless? Did he really hate you that much? It wasn’t until you’d cried yourself to sleep that the tears finally stopped, falling into a semi-peaceful slumber, one filled with dreams of happiness, happiness with Law by your side. But the moment you woke up, it all fell away, once more leaving you to sob as your heart bled. You desperately wanted to remove it, to rip your heart out, maybe then, maybe if you didn’t have a heart, maybe it wouldn’t hurt. But you couldn’t and it still did, leaving you with nothing to do but sob. Soaking the pillow with more tears.

It was months later that Law saw you again, having arrived at Dressrosa. At first he’d thought it was his mind playing tricks on him, then perhaps an illusion caused by one of Doflamingo’s men. Maybe even a trick by Doflamingo himself to try and get to Law. But it wasn’t. Nobody, no illusion, nothing could capture your beauty, the radiance that shone from your heart, the smile that seemed to light up every cell in his body. Worse yet were the things you knew, you knew things that nobody else knew, the things that you said to him as he stared at you in a mix of shock and pain. Sitting against a wall, hands chained behind your back, you stared at the floor. It had been a few weeks after Law had left you that Doflamingo found you. He insisted that Law still had a soft spot for you, that you were his weakness. So he took you with him to Dressrosa, not caring about your protests. You knew not to mess with the Warlord, having heard the many tales from Law, but he didn’t leave you with many options. Now here you were, once again in front of Law and proving that you were just as weak as he’d said you were. The tears came back again, as they always did, spilling over the man who didn’t love you.

“Let her go! She isn't a part of this!” Law demanded, though his words barely reached you.

“Oh but that’s where you’re wrong. I know how much you care for her, how you’d do anything for her. You tried to drive her away, tried to make everyone think you hated her. That’s why you broke up with her in the middle of a crowded street in a big city, it’s why you made it so obvious, so everyone would know that you didn’t have a weakness. But I know you Law, I know it was all just an act, did you really think I wouldn’t find out? That you could fool me?” Doflamingo chuckled, using his strings to pull you close, “maybe I should teach you a lesson, teach you why you shouldn’t get too close to people.” you felt something pressing against your neck, a small trickle of blood slowly making its way down.

“Leave her out of this!” Law shouted, struggling against the sea stone cuffs as best he could. He knew he couldn’t deny it, not to Doflamingo, so he’d try and save you, try and keep you alive, but the sea stone was draining his energy and he couldn’t do anything to save you.

“I mean nothing to him, Doflamingo, please, just… just kill me quickly. I’m already dead.” you muttered, the tears falling faster. You didn’t want to suffer, but you felt like you’d died the day the Law had broken your heart and left you on that island. 

“I don’t think you realize how wrong you are, you mean everything to him and he’d do anything to not see you hurt, all the more reason to kill you slowly. I’m sure your agonized screams will tear him apart.” he said with a chuckle. Hesitantly, you looked up at Law, seeing the concern in his eyes. His hatred for Doflamingo had taken a backseat to his love and worry for you. You were in trouble and he desperately wanted to save you. Despite his best efforts, he couldn’t lie to you about this. He couldn’t hide his feelings for you, not when you could be killed at any moment, the light of his life snuffed out in an instant. A sob escaped your lips as he mouthed the three little words to you. He always did that when you were out in public, telling you he loved you without saying the words aloud. A crash drew your attention away from Law, the room suddenly becoming a scene of chaos.

Law held you close, your face buried in his chest, hands gripping his shirt while he stroked your hair, placing small kisses to the top of your head.

“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry for everything.” he whispered now that the two of you had a moment alone. You could hear the regret in his voice as easily as you could feel him shaking as he held you, “I couldn't protect you. I tried to keep you away from the battle, tried to keep you safe, but I broke your heart and still put you in harm's way. I’m sorry, I don’t deserve your forgiveness, but I’m so sorry.” Law said, trying to hold back his tears. You just shook your head, confusing him as you wrapped your arms around him, holding him closer, hands grabbing fistfulls of his clothes as you clung to him, as if he’d disappear if you didn’t.

“I can’t stay mad at you, I never could. It hurt, it hurt so bad, but I couldn’t, I can’t, hate you. I can’t not forgive you because you love me. You love me so much that you were willing to break your own heart for me. I hate what you did, I think you’re the world’s biggest idiot, but I love you too much.” you mumbled, your own tears starting to seep into his clothing, “just please, please don’t try and do things by yourself anymore, don’t try and cut me out of your life anymore. I can’t help but love you and I want to be by your side.” you said, feeling him nod, his head resting on yours.

“Never again, I promise, I swear I’ll keep you with me forever.” he swore, the two of you just standing in the field of flowers, holding each other as you enjoyed being reunited and together again.

I was looking at Cora-san and Law edits. It struck me. As I once posted/said Law went to Dressrosa to seek revenge for Cora-san at the cost of his own life. He didn't expect to make it but he did.

Imagine now, he defeated Doflamingo, he's alive, his life did not ended there but... What if he was struck with overwhelming urge to share his victory with Cora-san but Cora-san is not there. And nothing will bring him back no matter what.

He feels his chest squeezing, his breathing getting rapid, and tears swell in his eyes and what's worse is - he can't stop it. He's a doctor, he knows how to deal with panic and anxiety attacks, he knows he needs to calm down but he can't. He breathes harder, his sight blurred and his mind repeatingly playing all the moments he spent with Cora-san.

All the good, silly, funny moments engraved deeply in his mind now causing him heart ache due to surge of emotions that have been released with the sole victory against Doflamingo. All those memories feeling like they are tearing his heart little by little, his chest feeling like there is no room for air in them.

And then waves and waves of memories fall down upon him and all he can do is go hide somewhere. Somewhere no one can find or see him. Somewhere where he can be vulnerable on his own, where he doesn't have to wear the mask of toughness. He finds a corner secluded from the rest and sits down against the wall unable to contain the sob from his throat and tears from his eyes that he shades with his hat.

In this scenario I imagine Robin would come across him trying to find her own silent and calm corner to be by herself but when she sees Law and hears his silent sobs she approaches him and sits down next to him, not saying anything whatsoever. She knows how he feels so she doesn't ask only looks at him who is kinda surprised and shades his eyes away so Nico doesn't see his tears.

She'd say nothing, and lean against the wall. Although she'd reach with her hand to hold Law's. Law does not refuse, he shifts his hand so he can interlock his fingers with Robin's and lean against her shoulder crying and sobbing not caring he is vulnerable in front of Robin.

"Don't feel guilty that you survived. You have done everything you could, we are not God, Law."

"I was supposed to feel relief but why is it so hard Nico-ya? It feels suffocating."

"It gets easier, I promise." Robin says in a light voice squeezing Law's hand and resting her own cheek on his fluffy hat.

Law keeps on crying silently but Robin's presence kinda makes it easier for him to savor all his emotions and process them properly. The warmth of her hand remind him of the present moment, reminds him of the reality that was not as easy but it was enough to stop his mind from racing. Whether it was because he finally released mass of emotions from his body or because it took only one person with same back story to make him feel like he is not alone.
