19Aug22 // Made the most delicious caramelized onion crustless quiche! My Dad gave me a bunch (and I mean a bunch) of his old cooking magazines since he saw how much I enjoyed reading them! I’ve made it my goal to try 2 new recipes a month, next I will attempt to make bread!
Only 3 more days until the fall semester begins, I’m a bit anxious and excited to get back into the routine of work + classes + studying. This summer has been so busy I feel like I barely had a chance to fully enjoy it, nonetheless I’m glad it was productive and full of research!

What kind of dish would you cook/introduce to your friends?
Oooooo i love this question!! I'd have to go with my creamy mushroom pasta, it's one of my only original recipes and it changes slightly every time i make it but it's fairly simple and very delicious!!
Here is the recipe, copied and pasted from when I first made it:
creamy mushroom sauce
you will need:
-1.5 cups mushrooms chopped (i used shiitake but crimini or white would be good too)
-butter
-1 pint heavy whipping cream
-about .5 cup of milk
-sprinkling of cheese blend
-about 3 tablespoons of flour
-salt, onion powder to taste
1. sautee the mushrooms in butter at medium high. go slower than you think you need to if this is your first time sauteing, you do not want to burn them
2. in another saucepan, pour the cream and add flour, whisking thoroughly until integrated. do this at a medium low.
3. add about a handful of your cheese blend (I used low moisture parm-skim, mozzarella, provolone, parmesan, romano, fontina, and asiago cheese blend but use whatever you want you won't taste it too much tbh), continue whisking until cheese is melted and thoroughly blended. you may need to adjust your heat for this step.
4. continue mixing sauce until mushrooms have browned in other pan. Save excess butter for later, keep warm. drop mushrooms into sauce. Mix and let sit. I would recommend adding your seasoning (salt and onion powder) here but you can wait until the end of you wanna
5. Make your side. I did this as a pasta sauce, so I made noodles, but I think it goes well on chicken too so up to you on that one. If you make something that takes longer, you may need to start it sooner so the sauce doesn't sit for too long as it will get very thick (but maybe you want that idk you do you)
6. As side is finishing, add milk as needed to reduce thickness. You may need to add lemon juice or worcestershire sauce for additional flavor balancing depending on how long you let the sauce sit during step 5. when ready to serve, mix in the saved butter as needed for additional flavor.

spent a month mashing two of my long term hyperfixations together into an AU, bone apple teeth
I wouldn't consider this a crossover as much as an inspired AU because autism brain drew parallels between the two narratives and I think it would be fun to explore the earlier years of the apocalypse, before the world is absolutely decimated (alongside many of the resources), before the fam loses Donnie and Raph, et cetera. I have Plans™
Paying homage to this iconic panel from The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys: National Anthem:
Still finalizing each of the bro's code names, but here are the initial drafts and close-ups of their designs:
Riff-Raph
Donamite
Antimatter Master-Plan
Magic Mic

Did you know that NHK has officially published recipes from Tsukutabe?
Cuz I sure as hell didn't. I happened to see an announcement from them in anticipation for season 2 of the series (which starts tomorrow!!) and I wanted to share! The official website of the drama series gives recipes for many of the recipes from season 1 of the show (most of which are the same dishes or very similar to the original manga). They're all in Japanese, but you can get pretty reasonable instructions with a translate tool. Here they are!
Nomoto-san's Giant Lu Rou Fan (braised pork over rice) from episode 1
Nomoto-san's Giant Omurice from episode 2
Nomoto-san & Kasuga-san's Grilled Riceballs with Sendai Miso from episode 2
Nomoto-san's Whole Pumpkin Pudding from episode 4
Nomoto-san's Kinchaku Eggs (eggs in fried tofu pouches) from episode 5
Nomoto-san's Harako Meshi (salmon rice topped with salmon roe) from episode 6
Nomoto-san's Stollen-style Pound Cake from episode 7
Nomoto-san's Roast Beef from episode 9
I'm really happy I found out about these, definitely gonna recreate some of these!! I already made the miso riceballs once when I was rewatching the show with my roommate, and we just used some recipe we found online. Now we have the legit version :D Definitely wanna make the pumpkin pudding someday. I'm super happy this exists even though it doesn't have all the recipes from the show, like for the udon that Kasuga makes for Nomoto, or their homemade gyoza. I hope they'll continue releasing recipes for the dishes of season 2 as it airs as well!

Freij
Freije
Known for their fringed ears, thick dark hair, and natural resistance the frigid temperatures of the north.
Freije seals take on a white or pale-blue hue, contrasting against their dark skin. Typically asymmetrical and unique to each individual, they have been widely (and fittingly) remarked as resembling snowflakes and frost, consisting of radial pattern of crystal-like markings.
Matriar
The military and naval prowess of Freij is recognized across Elothia, and its Matriar reflects that. As Leader and Admiral, She dons the military vestments of the region, although ornamented and embroidered to indicated Her regal station. She also carries on Her person, just as the officers under Her, a dagger and sabre. Typically these would be highly decorated commissioned works, much like Her chokha and kalpak. However the current Matriar has forgone the tradition, preferring to don and wield the standard arms of her men.
As Impero recently saw a Patris leave the throne, Freij is likely to see one on theirs in the coming centuries as the current Matriar has only one son and seemingly no interest in bearing another child.
Czars
State officials and Generals to Her Majesty. Much like the Matriar, Czars are outfitted in military garb and keep a dagger and sabre on their person. While still decorated to denote them as officers of import, it is not to the level of the Matriar.
Citizens
Despite the high tolerance to the northern climate that they have become known for, Freije are born incredibly susceptible to the cold.
Newborns are heavily swaddled in thick furs and kept indoors for the most of their first year. Even when younglings are finally able to be brought outdoors, they do so thoroughly bundled up, almost comically, in several layers of thick clothing and furs.
It's not until adolescense that the Freije's cold tolerance truly begin to build up. They begin to strip away their heavy coats, scarves and furs, and many, many, layers as the years proceed, and by their first century the typical Freije can brush off the low temperatures with far lighter apparel. To the outsider experiencing the bite of Freij's Spring chill for the first time, they may even look underdressed.
In opposition to this are the region's wealthier merchants, barons, and city officials. Setting themselves up at higher altitudes, far above the crowded docks and fish markets, even their natural resistance isn't quite enough to keep out the colder mountain winds. As a result, upper class Draken remain relatively bundled up well after maturing - a fact that's earned the ridicule of many common folk, thinking it make them look childish.
