Please come out to this event, at San Antonio Culture Commons Gallery, 115 Plaza De Armas. I may not be there as I am waiting on a wheelchair to be approved, and surgery, possibly on both feet is highly likely. However, my art is up and that of all of the participating artists. Please come to hear the wonderful poetry and music. The exhibit will run through November. I hope to be at other events later in the year. I am not supposed to be walking at all right now. Crossing fingers my wheelchair gets approved and my apartment complex makes changes to make my unit accessible. Pop! Mecka Trash no.11 Influences: @5uperfreak , Mazinger Z, mechanical robot hands, graphitti and futuristic sneakers, with just a hint of @hebrubrantley . Interior Design: @home_ec_op @melissasf2 @kimdaunis What is Pop! Mecka Trash? A reflection and critique of sorts. Some of the most successful living contemporary pop artists of the 21st century focus on cartoon imagery. Artists like Kaws, Matt Gondek, Takashi Murakami, and Steven Harrington. Many of these artists subscribe to an appropriation aesthetic. Which simply means to take something in existing pop culture and re-purpose it in a new and sometimes deconstructionist way. Pop! Mecka Trash re-appropriates the appropriated. And does so through the lens of things I already love: Mecha [Japanese giant robot genre] and sneaker culture. Thus the PoP! CAPITALISM IS THE VIRUS It has normalised the idea that human beings can be stripped of their humanity to be kidnapped, sold, enslaved, multipled against their will as livestock. It has normalised the idea that some lives are not worth protecting or saving. It has normalised the belief that some have the power of life and death on others. It has normalised the concept that paper money, digital currency, borrowed money and assets are worth the blood, the bones and the destruction, they were built upon. The commodification of nature, human beings and their bodies, people’s labour, culture and traditions has started with colonisation which has become a global phenomenon today, an economic model pushed on every other country from the global south. White supremacy is a disease because it was born from genocide, rape, torture and human exploitation, leaving in its wake a trail of death with any species it has encountered. White privilege is a mental construct, the historic normalisation of a psychopathological tendency for cruelty towards others, to erase our innate capacity for empathy as human beings. A natural trait to recognise humanity in others and act accordingly. Inflicting defeat, pain and humiliation to others has been a historic tradition for the Western world, to satiate its need for domination and power at all costs. The supremacist capitalist agenda is always volunteering other people’s lives to unsure its ideology and legacy survive but most of all the exploitative system it is based upon for endless profit. Sadly for them, today we are observing how technocrats in power are starting to apply the same psychopathological logic to their own people. The rise of universal population control and exploitation for all.
