The Importance of Hands-On Learning: Why 6 Months of Industrial Training is Beneficial
The demand for qualified and work-ready people is greater than ever in today's competitive employment market. While educational institutions work hard to provide students with theoretical information, the value of hands-on experience cannot be overstated. 6 months of industrial training is one excellent technique to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application. In this , we'll look at the enormous value and benefits that such hands-on learning experiences may offer to one's personal and professional development.
Industrial Training's Transformative Power
Industrial training programmes, which typically last six months, give students a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to walk in the shoes of professionals in their chosen industry. This immersive learning experience gives them practical skills, professional knowledge, and a better grasp of workplace dynamics.
Real-World Application: Unlike typical classroom settings, industrial training allows students to apply theoretical principles in a hands-on situation. This application promotes a more in-depth grasp of the subject matter and its significance.
Development of Skills: Through practical instruction, trainees can acquire and polish the fundamental skills needed in their field. The training programme provides a platform for personal and professional growth in a variety of areas, including technical skills, communication, problem-solving, and collaboration.
Opportunities for Networking: During industrial training, people can get in touch with peers, mentors, and industry professionals. Developing a strong professional network can lead to partnerships and potential employment chances.
Enhanced Employability: Completing a six-month industrial training programme increases a person's marketability to employers by showcasing a proactive attitude to professional development and a commitment to learning.
Exposure to sector Practices: Trainees learn about the protocols, practices, and new trends that are unique to their sector. In order to remain relevant and competitive in the employment market, this information is priceless.
Personal and professional development
Aside from the technical and career-specific benefits, 6 months of industrial training accelerates personal growth. The experience builds self-confidence, adaptability, and a sense of responsibility. Trainees are frequently more equipped to deal with obstacles, make decisions, and contribute significantly to their job.
The transition from novice to professional, from passive learner to active contributor, is a transforming one. It instills a sense of purpose and direction in one's job path, assisting individuals in discovering their strengths and areas for progress.
Preparing for the Future
In an era when industries are evolving at an unprecedented rate, hands-on learning through industrial training programmes prepares individuals for the uncertainties of the future labor market. They become flexible learners, able to adapt to new technologies and industry trends.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the value of hands-on learning is evident, and a 6-month industrial training programme is an excellent investment in one's future. It not only provides individuals with practical skills, but it also molds them into confident, flexible, and forward-thinking professionals. Consider enrolling in a 6-month industrial training programme if you want to stand out in a competitive job market and embark on a meaningful professional path. The experience will serve as an important stepping stone towards personal and professional success.

It should not have gotten to this.
Seriously. You’d think that as medical school enrollments expanded the system would do the best they could and resolve the physician shortage by adding more residency slots in the Miyagi Prefecture. That wasn’t the case at all.
In fact, all the residencies and medical internships you’ve applied for haven’t gotten back to you. It’s been over a month now, and the only emails you’ve received from them are ‘I’m sorry to inform you’ letters and ‘waitlisted’. Not even one acceptance letter. It sucked.
Just when you lost hope, you stumbled across an article for one that was unrealistically near you.
‘Medical Internships Available for Upcoming Optometrist! Miyagi’s Hospital Center: Medical Training Program ran by Dr. Matsukawa Issei, MD. Location: Dr. Matsukawa’s Office.’
It sounded way too good to be true... and it was only a 15-minute drive from your place..? Out of mere curiosity, you clicked on the advertisement without a second thought and ah — there it was; a catch.
Only one person could be accepted.
Well, desperate times call for desperate measures, so you filled the application anyways and hoped for the best.
And for some odd reason, you were actually selected.
You don’t know how, but you actually got chosen. Now here you are, in front of his office in your car. You take one last anxious look in your rear-view mirror, reassuring yourself that you looked somewhat presentable before gathering your belongings and heading to the entrance.
“Here goes nothing.”
Once you push past the doors, you couldn’t help but notice how empty the lobby was. There weren’t any patients waiting, and the T.V used for entertainment purposes was off. Maybe the office was closed? You brush these thoughts off before turning your head to be greeted by a lady. She seemed young, about the same age as you or a little bit older.
“Hello?” she calls, she doesn’t bother looking up at you as she continues to type away on the computer. You turn your head around swiftly to face her, offering an awkward smile.
“Oh! Uh, Hi! I came for Dr. Matsukawa’s internship program?” The woman makes a face that you can’t read — confusion, you might say? Either way, she does an excellent job concealing it as she rolls a pen and a few papers your way.
“Fill these forms out for me and I’ll tell Dr. Matsukawa that you’re ready for him.” she explains, giving you a tight lipped smile.
You take the papers and pen, taking a seat on one of the many comfortable chairs in the room. You finished filling out the form rather quickly, getting up to return the papers back to the front desk, until you suddenly hear bickering. It sounds like the lady that was at the front desk not too long ago and oh, a male voice too. Although you shouldn’t, you let your curiosity get the best of you.
“Hey, is everything okay here — oh.”
It’s the doctor himself. He raises an eyebrow at you, his attention that was once on the lady was now at you, then looking down at the folders he was currently holding, rummaging through them. He looks back at you, using his pointer finger to gently lift up his glasses.
“You must be L/N?” he clears his voice, as if he wasn’t just arguing with the lady next to him seconds ago, waiting for you to reply.
Dr. Matsukawa is extremely attractive.
The hell? Since when did you have a thing for older men? Is that wrong to say? He looks like a very busy man, even though there were no patients currently in the office. There’s a huge height difference between him and the lady and the way he has to look down at you leaves you with no choice but to close bite on your bottom lip.
Your eyes wander down to his lower body, meeting the dress shoes he was currently wearing, and from there, your eyes take in the tight black pants and the way his fitted navy blue shirt outlined his abs slightly, his white lab coat topping the outfit.
“Ms. L/N?” The man calls out again, his fingers gripping the stacks of files in his hand a bit tighter as he gave you a concerned look. Your head jerks up immediately to face Dr. Matsukawa, your stomach doing flips when you make eye contact with him. “Ms. L/N Y/N is your name. Am I correct?”
You gulp, eagerly nodding your head. “Uh, Yeah — Yes. Yes, that’s my name.” You stammered. You break eye contact with the doctor, eyes drifting to the lady standing next to him.
Dr. Matsukawa flashes you a bright smile before giving you a firm nod, lifting his arm to direct you to another room. “You can follow me — Is everything alright, miss?”
“Y-Yes!” You mindlessly shake your head, struggling to move your feet from where they’re planting. You’ve suddenly realized how unprofessional you’ve been acting and it’s because of the extremely hot doctor in front of you.
“Please, take a seat.”
He’s taken you to a.. patients room..? You were expecting an office. You’re assuming this is where he’ll be discussing the activities you’ll be doing today. You take a seat in the medical recliner, examining the room as he brings out your information in a folder. “Your files show that you’re a really good student, who has a great amount of experience on leadership skills and opportunities,” he affirmed. He looks up at you, shifting in his seat as he continues to look over your papers.
“Uh, Yes, that’s true. I can name some—“
“Let’s get straight to the objective for today, shall we?” The way he suddenly interrupted you by slamming the folder together causes you to flinch, there’s a sudden mischief in his eyes that cause your throat to dry up, and now he’s staring at you. Like boring his eyes on you waiting for a response. You swallow hardly before nodding, causing him to grin. “I’ve already reviewed everything I need to know about you. I don’t want to waste another minute.”
He’s nice. Weird, but nice. Which doesn’t help because his odd (yes, odd) behavior was turning you to someone who you weren’t, which was shy. You’d like to say you’re a pretty confident and outgoing person who’s able to maintain eye contact and keep a conversation going with others, but for some reason, this man in front of you was different.
“I’m going to be running some test. I hope that’s fine with you?” He announced, leaning foward while adjusting the nobs on the lamp. You should be asking questions, you should, because you didn’t know this interview would require “tests”. You don’t even care to at this point, you’re just grateful you got selected, so you nod your head. “Perfect. I’ll start by checking your eyesight.”
“Uh, Dr. Matsukawa, forgive me for overstepping , but what do these test have to do with the internship?” The doctor hums in acknowledgment, leaning down so he can get a good look at your eyes through the lens.
“Can you see the dot?”
You squint your eyes so you can see the so called ‘dot’ he’s talking about more clearly “Yes, I can, but—“
“This was mentioned and is definitely part of the internship Ms. L/N. Did you not read the form?” He sighs, writing some notes down in his paper and you can’t even feel guilty because you’re too distracted at how big his hands are, huge knuckles and veiny. How can someone’s hand be so attractive?
“Well, I did but I just didn’t really see where it said that on the form, so I didn’t think that you’d be running some ‘tests’.” You quote his words from earlier, nervously chuckling. He sighs again.
“I’m going to test your eye pressure.” He stands up, holding an object similar to a pointer. He moves towards you, pointing to the red dot on the wall across the room.
“Keep your eyes focused on the dot and try not to blink. This won’t hurt, but it may feel uncomfortable.” You nod once again, resting your hands on your lap as Dr. Matsukawa squats in front of you so he’s eye-level with you. He gently places his hand in your knee, causing you to flinch.
Seriously, get your shit together.
“Are you alright? He basically snickered, you’re pretty sure he can feel the warmth radiating at your core.
You nod your head, eyes locking into the dot, cheeks heating up and turning into a bright pink shade. Dr. Matsukawa positions the equipment right in front of your eye before pressing a button that activated the device to blow a puff of air into your eye, causing you to blink.
“We’ll try again.” He maintains eye contact, refocusing the device on the center of your eye as his hand that was on your thigh slight reaches higher, going under your pencil skirt causing you to flinch again.
“I’m sorry,” you breathe, letting out an extremely nervous sigh.
“I’m going to hold your head so you don’t pull away. Is that alright with you?” He explains, giving you so soft smile.
You nod your head rather keenly. Your heart flutters at the contact, the grip on the back of your neck not too tight but strong enough to prevent your head from moving.
He starts the device again, watching you fight the urge to blink. He smiles when you don’t blink, removing his hand from the back of your neck.
“Good girl. You just need someone to keep you in place, yeah?” his other hand rubs your thigh and you couldn’t help the whimper slips out your mouth at the nickname.
Dear God help you. It’s like this man knows that you find him attractive.
“Yeah..” you answer, he stands up with the equipment, writing some notes down on his note book before closing it.
“We have one more test and that’ll be all for today.” He leaves the room for a short period of time and comes back with the other lady from before, she’s carrying a box and places it right next to you.
Dr. Matsukawa follows behind the lady, taking a seat across from you. Why the hell did they look like they were about to dissect your body?
“Do you know what’s inside that box?” he beamed, you turned your head to look at the box the lady had placed next to you, tilting your head and slightly squinting your eyes so you could get a better look at the text.
‘Magic Wand — Vibrator Sex Toy.’
What. The. Fuck.
Dr. Matsukawa grins when he watches the harsh breath you take, the lady next to him staring to the side with a bored look.
“W...What’s that for?” You eyes remain staring at the box.
He grins, “You do know what this is used for, right Ms. L/N?” You stare back up at him, swallowing hard.
“Is... Is this why you put these restraints on me?” Your eyes are filled with pure terror, your breathing becoming uneven when Dr. Matsukawa chuckles darkly. What was going on in your head when you willingly let him tie your hands up?
“No need to fret,” He attempts to touch you and you only flinch in response. “What, you can’t handle getting touched by a vibrator?”
You cringe at his word choice, shaking your head when he takes a closer step at you.
“Also,” He’s hot in your face, your breath hitches when you remember that you two aren’t the only ones in the room. You look over to the lady with a pleading look, but she only looks away. “I’ve noticed the way you’ve been looking at my most naughtiest places, Ms. L/N.”
“No... No! It’s not like that I swear!—“
He swiftly faces away from you and you bite your bottom lip. “But of course, if you’re not comfortable with this, I won’t force you. I’m not into stuff like that anyways.”
It’s only then you finally remember to breathe, you shift uncomfortably when he places a hand in your thigh.
“But you’re a good girl, right? You know how to follow directions.” It takes a while to register his words, you’re too busy in your own world, wondering how the hell you got yourself in this position. You don’t even notice his hand was cupping your cheek.
“You see,” he starts, “I don’t want to hurt you.. I just want to study you. That’s all.” He assured with that charming smile that could get you to obey his every order.
So you nod.
“Perfect!” he gleams, “Nina, would you mind stepping to the side for me?”
She follows his request, clipboard in her hand. You give her an unsure look and she looks like she’d rather be anywhere else but here. You don’t blame her.
“Nina over here took her test 3 years ago,” He announces, “Took it like a pro, isn’t that right, Nina?”
She glared at Dr. Matsukawa, before nodding, “Yeah.”
“She’s a very hard working doctor and very successful, too. You should see her when the office is open! Handles the patients so well.”
He continues to ramble and proceeds to remove the object from out of the box, placing a battery and flicking the switch on.
“Wait!” you yelp, he switches off the vibrator and gives you a confused look. “What— what does this have to do with the internship? And what were the eye test for?”
“I’m going to review your vision before and after you achieve an orgasm.” he deadpans.
Your head cocks to the side, in fact, you feel light headed and you wonder how he said something like that so casually.
“You see, I’ve noticed that you’ve been holding your breath quite a lot every since you’ve gotten here, and I can’t help but wonder if you’ll do the same while your vagina is being stimulated.” you blankly stare, waiting for him to continue. “If this is true, and you do hold your breath while you orgasm, you could temporarily lose eye sight, or receive blurred vision due to the pressure that would be building up in your eyes.”
Help. Someone help. This man has lost his fucking mind. And the lady, Nina, why the hell is she not saying anything? Did she seriously go through this too?
Your jaw gapes as well as your eyes, staring at Dr. Matsukawa with a frightened look. Maybe you shouldn’t have applied for this internship. And then the dam finally breaks.
Honestly, you’re surprised you didn’t start crying when he restrained you. You’re absolutely too frightened to even fight back at this point, and even though he said you didn’t have to, you’re too afraid to speak at the moment. If you knew you’d meet crazy doctors like this, you would’ve quit med school.
“This causes your blood vessels in your eye to burst and trigger a small hemorrhage and temporary vision loss.” You let out a sob, “But don’t worry, it’s temporary.”
Like that was supposed to help.
He gently pats your head before placing a strand of hair behind your ear. “It’s okay if you don’t want to do it, baby.”
You face the floor as he rubs his thumb softly over your cheek. You find comfort as he cups your cheek, it’s almost as if it’s only the two of you there.
“I’m sorry if I frightened you, dear. I’m just so very excited because I’ve never met someone so... Inspiring,” You lift your head up to face him, and he lets out a soft chuckle. “With such leadership skills you have, I’m truly greatful you accepted this internship. I honestly find a strong interest in you, too.” His hand travels down your sides, pushing you closer to him.
“Really?” it’s barely above a whisper, breath hitching when his lips softly brush against yours. He nods against your lips, just about to bring them in before he hears a soft ‘tch’ coming from Nina.
“Ah, no need to be jealous, Nina. You’re still in my top 3.” He pulls away from you to grin at Nina, who doesn’t respond. She’s awfully quiet. You don’t know why, but those words sent a pang to your heart. Top 3? Does he have affairs with all his co-workers? Just how many girls has he done this to?
He turns back to gave you once again, delicately trailing his fingers on your sides. “You think you can be a good girl for me?”
You bite your lip, looking up at him and it’s the way he’s staring at you with such adoration — like he’s the only person you can count on.. You just want to make him proud. So you nod.
“Yes.”
You can see the way his eyes light up, and you can’t help he smile to yourself. It finally feels like you’re being useful for once.
“If you ever need me to stop, call out ‘strawberries’”
“Okay.”
Dr. Matsukawa grabs the small vibrator once again, turning it on to the lowest setting, testing the power of it in his finger before lifting your skirt up and placing it against your panties.
“Hah!” you gasp out, your hands pull hard against the restraint, causing Dr. Matsukawa to grin.
“Subject 5 has been restricted for a approximately 10 minutes now. An increased blood flow towards her genital has been detected after realizing what was about to happen to her.” Nina speaks into the recorder.
Subject 5, really?
He moves the wand from your clit, down to your folds, as he watched you writhe underneath the restraints.
“Poor baby,” he pretends to pout, “I don’t think you’ll be able to fully enjoy yourself being l restrained like this. You need to comforting, isn’t that right?”
“Mmm! Mhm.”
He chuckled to himself, before helping you remove all of your clothing, discarding your panties as well as your bra. Your nipples began to harden as the cool air got in contact with them. As he was pulling down your panties, he kneeled down and inspected the slick covering your pussy.
“Subject 5 has increased vaginal discharge, signifying that her body is preparing itself for sexual intercourse.” Dr. Matsukawa calls out before licking a long stripe on your pussy. Your hips buck, causing Dr. Matsukawa to chuckle as he rubbed the side of your thigh.
You weren’t one to get embarrassed easily, but it’s not everyday a hot doctor almost 2x your age sees you naked.
Your head bolts up when you realize Dr. Matsukawa was doing the same, removing his lab coat as well as his right-fitted navy blue shirt, to reveal nibs insanely fit body.
“You’re drooling, Ms. L/N.”

Full speed ahead
written for flashfictionfriday prompt of last week. RUSHING TRAIN
thanks to @minervas-hand for the encourgment to make me finish this.
once again in the vein of humans are space orcs
----------------------------------
Above planet Merthal, around its third moon the wreckage of a fleet laid. Three combined fleets had stood against the sentient machines. Only a single half destroyed ship remaind.
Captain Verkai looked out through the view screens showing the surrounding of debris and several wreckage from the other vessels, less fortunate as he had been.
They could see the rear end of the robots fleet advancing forward towards Merthal. Backup would arrive in two hours. Plenty of time for the robots to burn and destroy his home planet.
The radio crackled to life, the navigator let the message through:
“This is human Adam of the ship Nightfall, we have your position. Dropping out of hyperlink now.”
The navigator warned for a large incoming ship, three times their own size existing from hyperspace.
The computer tagged it as unknown dreadnought class. It was impressive at over 1km long, smooth Hull yet angular and hard corners. A flat nose with a wider midsection and ending in a triangular like wings. With six large thrusters centered at the back.
Verkai had heard of humanity, they were the latest to join the galactic community, last month to be exact.
The first contact reports said humans were bipedal and stocky, with similar ships that were simple and old, they had been seen in the first video coming out of the first contact. Their army was near decemation after a long war, they had been tight lipped of more information. Hard headed like the Sethana but hard on protocol like his own species.
They hailed us,
“This is Adam again, scooping you now and advancing forward.”
“I thank you for your assistance but im afraid you will be outgunned. we better leave and regroup”
“We have plans to get troops on the ground asap.
“But it will be impossible to get close. The enemy will create a blockade around the planet. And then nothing gets in or out… Its already lost”
“Let us worry about that. Hang on”
Three of the thrusters of the human ship flared to life. The massive ship started to move, soon all six of the thrusters were on fire. The robots larger ships were visible in the distance, the enemy were quickly linking their ships to create a barricade.
Connecting to the enemy hull it held for a mere second, it crumpled inward giving way for more of the ship to penetrate through. Its wide end made the enemies larger ships bulge and break apart along the seam. The explosion left a hole in the enemies blockade and left the planet below exposed. The humans ship were a mere blur for outside onlookers. Inside six droppods were launched, rushing from the main ship through the newly made debris field and down onto the planet. The blurry ship rushed along and away from the planet.

A few more days went by, and Wanda assured you she was fine with you going back to the office most of the day. She seemed to really be doing better now that she had people who supported her, but she seemed bored. You quickly discovered that her life before all this rarely gave her time to find a hobby outside of watching old tv shows. When with the Avengers she spent most of her time training, and before that she was a lab rat, so that wasn't fertile soil to develop interests.
Still, she made an effort to find an occupation, she started reading, tried Anath's video games, even played around with some old art supplies you bought once upon a time and never truly picked up later on. But nothing seemed to really scratch the itch.
Then one day, as Anath was home - she had inherited a week of night shift - and watching the news, a report came about an ongoing battle in the center of Manhattan where the newest members of the Avengers were fighting some terrible danger and were in a really precarious position. Wanda looked at the report in horror, then outside the window from where she could see a column of smoke rising. Before she had even time to think about it, she went to the balcony and jumped into action.
Immediately your best friend called you to inform you of what just happened, and you had to excuse yourself as you went to the closest computer near you, pushing the hands of its user to take control.
"Hey! What's wrong with you Y/ln?"
"Shut up, Dave."
You pulled up a live news feed and looked as your soulmate just arrived on the fight scene just in time to save the new Black Widow and Hawkeye from being crushed by debris. She then flew to the danger and what looked like a very violent battle started while the news anchor commented on the witch's return.
You had a bad feeling about this.
At least the fight didn't last since Wanda took care of the threat in a few minutes, top, before taking off into the unknown. You bolted from the office, trying to get a hold of Wanda's phone, unsuccessfully.
Shit.
Was she going to be okay? She hadn't used her powers in a while, and after the Sokovia Accords she kept a low profile since she was a fugitive. Her appearing out of nowhere like that was bound to bring some unwanted attention.
That was bad.
Finally, she answered her phone.
"Wanda, where are you?"
"The outskirt of the city. I didn't want to go back to your place and risk bringing attention there." That was actually smart.
"Okay, ping me your location, I'm picking you up. In the meantime, stay hidden."
She did what you asked for, and after a while she was climbing in your car. Immediately she noticed how white your knuckles were on the wheel.
"Y/n…"
"Not now." Your voice was strained and dry, trying to hide any form of emotions.
Wanda recoiled in her seat while your eyes stayed glued on the road. The way home was quick but heavy with what you left unsaid, but what worried her even more was the lack of your voice in her head. Were you truly not thinking anything, or did you cut her off? She had no way to tell, so when you closed the door behind you she turned to face you, eyes already filling with tears. But before she could say anything, you crashed into her in a crushing hug.
"I was so scared, Wanda, so scared." You plunged your face in the crook of her neck, taking deep breaths. She smelled like sweat and smoke after her fight.
"I'm okay Y/n, I'm good," she reassured you as she finally laced her arms around you, rubbing your back in slow circles. "I don't even have a scratch, I swear."
You actually took the time to examine her, backing away, your eyes roaming her in search of any visible wound. You nodded. Good. That was good. Still, you brought her in your arms again. You wanted to feel her against you, solid, there. When you finally let your arms slide off of her she took your hands in hers, her fingers still black at the tip but slowly going back to normal with time, and squeezed them gently.
"You feeling better?" She asked and you nodded.
Everything was good. There was just a question burning on your tongue but you had no idea if you should ask it. It was none of your business, you thought. On the other hand…
"Are you going to get back into superheroing?" You asked in a worried whisper.
Her eyebrows furrowed at the question as if she didn't think about it. And she didn't. "I don't know," she answered in a confused tone, because she truly had no idea. "I… I acted on instinct. They were kids. I had to do something."
You thought about it, pinching your lips before you nodded. "Okay."
"You're not mad?" She tilted her head at that, some more confusion etched on her face.
"No, no, I'm not mad. I–" you stammered and looked up at the ceiling as you looked for your words. "I was worried, but also… you're a kickass hero, and I kind of told you to do good. And if for you it means going out there and fighting, so be it."
"O-okay, that's… I'm… I don't know yet if–" she breathed out shakily. "I don't know if I will do that too often."
"That's good, I mean, fine, you know. Do that as often as you want," you rambled a bit and she laughed, and you did too. "God, you were so cool out there!"
You laced your fingers with hers and leaned forward so your foreheads touched.
"It felt good to help again."
"Okay, how about celebratory take out? Chinese?"
She rolled her eyes and shook her head when another voice sounded from the living room.
"I'm open to chinese."
Anath smirked at you and you blushed. You had completely forgotten she was here, and apparently Wanda had too since she was getting almost as red as her hair.
Your best friend laughed, and you took your phone out to get the food.
*
"Sooo, Y/n," Anath started and you could see she wanted something.
You raised your eyebrows. "Yes, Anath?"
"Wanda hasn't been using the guest room for a while." Where the hell was she going with this? "And my dad is coming to town for a conference soon."
Ah, that's where she was going. "And you want him to stay here."
She nodded sheepishly.
"I'll talk to her about it." You didn't even know what you were supposed to talk about exactly. You narrowed your eyes at Anath. "When is he coming?"
"In two days."
You drank your coffee. You were not looking forward to having that conversation.
*
"Sooo, Wanda," you started in a very similar way as Anath did earlier. Wanda frowned and let you continue while she steered the food in the pot.
"Anath's dad will be in town, and she'd like him to stay here. And you know. You've been sleeping with me. I mean, in my room, I mean, you know." You were feeling so flustered, it was getting ridiculous. Lately you had found yourself more nervous than usual around Wanda, your heart beating in your chest stronger than ever.
"Are you asking me to move in your room?" She was now arching an eyebrow and you felt dumb with your sweaty palms.
"It's just temporary, then–"
"Okay." Your eyes widened. "I'll move to your room."
"Oh, good. Huh. Temporarily?"
"If you want it to be."
You looked to the side, a hand on the back of your neck. "Let's try it out before we make any big decision."
It doesn't have to mean anything, after all. You would be fine, right? You were not at all developing a giant crush on Wanda after all, mhm, nope, never.
*
Two days later, you had emptied a few of your drawers for Wanda to fully move in your room for the week to come. It felt oddly natural to have her take up more of your personal space, but it also left you feeling uneasy, trapped by an all knowing universe, and it bothered you deeply. But as usual, you repressed your emotions as deeply as possible so you wouldn't have to think about it. So when Anath's dad, Ephraim, finally arrived, everything was ready.
As usual you spent a good five minutes listening to them exchange in Hebrew from the kitchen, not understanding anything until a translation seemed to pop in your head in Wanda's voice. That made you frown pretty deeply and you glanced at her as she seemed to follow the conversation along as she snacked on cashews - yours, by the way, apparently now she was okay with just stealing your food. Finally the man came to say hello to the both of you and was pleasantly surprised to hear Wanda speak Hebrew to him.
Anath threw a questioning look your way and you just shrugged. You had no idea she spoke the language or if she had any religious affiliation to begin with.
The rest of the day flew by, and you actually learned that Wanda was jewish, which, good for her. You already knew a bit from Anath but never truly took the time to study the matter that much. She admitted she didn't practice anymore, but she still received an invitation to join Anath's family during important holidays - along with the one you received every time one of them came around. You had a feeling this time you might actually take it if Wanda's thoughts were anything to go by.
The next morning as you were taking breakfast with everyone, a golden magic portal opened in your living room and Wanda immediately jumped on her feet when Dr. Strange and Wong came through. This was bad, you could tell, so you stood up too.
"Do you often have wizards coming through portals here nowadays?" Ephraim asked in a whisper towards his daughter and child-in-law.
"It's honestly starting to feel like a Tuesday," Jamie answered, Anath simply tilting her head, unable to deny it.
"Strange, what are you doing here?" A very nervous Wanda challenged, hands at the ready to use her magic.
"I could ask you the same question, Wanda. More so I should ask you the same question. I thought you died at the top of Wundagore," Strange answered, while Wong behind him was also assuming a fighting stance, just in case.
"I think I want that weird man to answer first," Anath piped up, drawing attention to her.
"I'm sorry, who, who are you?" He asked, looking at her.
"Dr. Anath Weiss. This is my apartment."
"Mine too," you added, while Jamie mumbled it and raised their hand to say they were an inhabitant too. Strange looked at the older man in the room.
"I'm just visiting, don't mind me."
He actually had a better look at him. "Are you Dr. Ephraim Weiss? You're the current director at UC San Diego Health, aren't you?"
"Oh, Dr. Stephen Strange! You used to be a prick."
This made Jamie spit out food everywhere on the table. Wong behind him seemed conflicted. He wanted to say something, but seemed to agree to a certain degree.
"Well, I'm not here to be disrespected, so, Wanda. Come with me."
You could hear a lithanie of 'no's coming from her mind and her eyes started to turn red. That was your cue to step in, so you did, taking a step to move in front of Wanda, between her and Strange.
"I'm sorry buddy, but she's not going anywhere."
He rolled his eyes, this was getting old. "And who are you?"
"Y/n Y/ln. I'm her soulmate."
He blinked at that, looking between the both of you. "But I thought–" he started, confusion all over his features, but it was quite clear what he thought for Wanda.
"You thought it was Vision."
Wait, what? Vision as in… The Vision? Hiding what you felt right now was hard, but you managed well enough since the wizards didn't seem to notice. Wanda shook her head.
"It was complicated," she said, and boy, it sounded like that. Maybe it was time to ask her some questions.
"Alright, so I take it you won't…" Strange had a look towards you, then your friends. "How about we talk about all this at Kamar-Taj?" He opened a new portal to the temple.
Wanda came closer to you and you extended your hand behind you to grab hers.
"I just want to talk," Strange assured her, "and why don't you bring Y/n with you? As a sign of good faith."
You gave Wanda an interrogating look, and after a few seconds of impossible to grab thoughts, she finally nodded. "We'll come."
He stepped aside to allow you passage and you walked in the portal with Wanda. Wong came next, and then Strange. The three left in the kitchen looked at the golden ring which disappeared.
"Your place is very lively," Ephraim commented.
Anath drank her coffee, not answering to that. She liked it like that.
As you entered Kamar-Taj, you looked around at everything. There must have been a tornado going through recently with all the damages you could see around here.
"Where are we?" You reached to Wanda in your thoughts - it was the first time you were trying something like that - and she quickly answered, giving you the rundown on Kamar-Taj. Then she added the smallest details at the end.
"All the destruction is my fault."
That was a frown worthy moment, and you felt like you really needed a catch up. When you glanced at Wanda, she was looking down in shame, a slight tremble on her lips. You squeezed her hand reasuringly while you were led to a room. There you side down across Strange and Wong.
"So, let's start with the beginning. What happened after Wundagore."
No playing around with Strange. Wanda decided to simply comply and answer so it would be over faster.
"I survived, I wandered around and arrived in New York. I don't really remember how."
"Alright, then what?"
"I just…" she looked away. "I stayed around. I didn't know what to do. I really thought Wundagore would kill me."
"We thought so too."
Listening to that was painful, but that last part made you tic. "Wait a second," you intervened. "What's Wundagore?"
"It's the place of origin of an ancient powerful book of magic, one that corrupt people and that Wanda had in her possession until recently," Wong answered before Strange would keep him from doing so.
"Is that why…" you wiggled your fingers under the very annoyed look of Strange that you interrupted his interrogation.
"Can we keep going?"
"No, we can't." You snapped at him, your voice starting to fill with anger.
"What?"
You leaned forward and even if you had no power, no magic, no training to look even remotely menacing, the man still felt threatened somehow.
"You knew what she was attempting to do, destroy an ancient site of corrupting magic," a look at Wong and he nodded to confirm it, "and that she would supposedly die from it, which was clearly her goal from what I'm hearing, and you let her do it? Suicide by heroism? What the fuck is wrong with you?!"
Your voice went up and up with anger as you talked and everyone in the room looked at you like two new heads grew on you.
"Well, there was the whole Westview incident, and she just had killed a few people. And then tried to kill a kid," Strange explained, not liking the tone you were employing with him. "And the Darkhold is not really something you come back from."
"You kind of did," Wong pointed out.
"Yes, because it got destroyed."
You looked at the two men in front of you. "Weren't you supposed to be friend at some point? Or at least on the same team with the whole Avengers thing?"
"We weren't exactly– Yes, we collaborated."
"And you didn't stop five seconds to– to just–"
"We tried to give her an out. She was never coerced into attacking that kid, or into attacking here."
"You just fucking said that the magic book corrupted her! That the only reason you're okay is because she destroyed it! You got fucking lucky, because she managed to break the hold! AFTER IT CORRUPTED HER!" You stood up at that, already halfway there since you kept straightening from anger at each of your words. You couldn't take anymore. Wanda looked at your extended hand. "We're leaving. Do your magic thing so we can go home."
The blackened fingers found yours and pulled the witch up. Strange tried to keep you from going by standing in your face. At this point all you could hear was your blood pumping in your temples and before you knew it you punched him.
"Fuck!" That hurted more than you thought it would. Wong decided it was time to take the wheel and opened a portal for you.
"We will visit you again once you've calmed down," he still let you know and you sent him a deatly glare. "Not as enemies."
Once you went through the portal it closed behind you and the others - who were finishing breakfast - looked at you. Wanda bolted for the freezer and took out a pack of peas.
"Shit, what happened," Anath asked looking at you. It was the first time she saw you so mad.
"She punched Strange," Wanda answered and came back to you - you had collapsed on the couch - to press the peas to your hand through a hand towel.
"Good," Ephraim said under the disapproving glance of his daughter who was getting up and approaching you to examine your hand. "What? It's true."
"What did he do?" Your best friend asked, and you glanced at Wanda. She looked scared that you were going to say anything.
"He was just being a dick," you dismissed and as usual, Anath respected your boundaries, Wanda able to breath again.
She looked at your hand that was already bruising. "The last time you picked a fight was warranted, so I won't say anything. Plus your hand is fine, so, no worries. Just keep icing it for now."
You nodded and your friend assembled her side of the family to go out while Wanda stayed next to you, worry in her eyes. Gears seemed to turn in her mind about what just happened, so you were hardly surprised when she finally talked about the whole ordeal that happened.
"You know, they're right. I was beyond redemption at the time…" she looked at her own hands.
"Come on Wands, that's ridiculous. Look how far you've come."
"I tried to kill a teenager, Y/n." Her eyes full of tears found yours. "I wanted to steal her powers for selfish reasons, and for that I killed countless people. And the worse is that I didn't care."
"That wasn't you, that was the– the Darkhold." That was the name of the thing, you thought.
"No. It's not just that… I–" she blinked a few tears away, looking up at the other end of the room. It was time for you to know everything.
*
It took so long for her to tell you everything, from Vision's death to Westview and finally to the dreamwalking and Wundagore. You listened, never saying anything. There was nothing for you to tell anyway, it wasn't your story. From time to time you would give her a squeeze of the hand to help her continue, until finally she reached the final chord. It was all a lot to digest. By the end of it your legs were crossed on the couch and the peas were on the coffee table.
You needed some time to think but you could feel Wanda's expectant gaze shifting continuously between you and her hands, so you still wanted to say something.
"I can't find it in me to blame you, Wanda," you finally said. You refused to absolve her, but you couldn't condemn her either.
"You should. I told you I was a monster."
"You're not. You're only human." That seemed to get her attention for good, her eyes hungry for more explanations. "If I, if anyone, really, had your powers? And if I were in your situation? I'm not sure I would… I'm certain I wouldn't have done better. From Westview to Wundagore."
The red rim of her eyes shined with tears that should have already dried after she told you her story. "I'm destined to destroy the world, Y/n."
"Screw destiny!"
Your sudden fire made her jump. In all this story she gave you, you finally realized how much destiny, fate, whatever you wanted to call it, counted on you never being there for Wanda. Because of course someone who was left alone would want to destroy the world, would want for all of it to end even if it meant taking everyone else with them. And that gave you a real choice, and her too. You would fight so she could have it.
"I mean, fuck, you can't condemn someone because you think that one day they might do a bad thing. No, you help them, until they get better, and until you know they're not a risk anymore. You don't let them try and commit suicide." Your voice became weak under the heavy weight of your words. "People should have helped you."
"I didn't want their help."
"They should have still tried." I should have tried, you thought bitterly. But it was too late to change that now. "I want to try." That was the best you could offer, because you truly believed Wanda was good, that what happened was a fluke. And you also believed she had to make amends, do better.
"I'm not worth it."
Gently, you took both of her hands between yours. "I choose to believe you are."
She looked at your linked hands, and at the way your eyes were burning with so much hope and trust. Trust in her despite everything she did and everything she could still do. It was something she missed, that feeling that someone had her back no matter what. It was something you chose for yourself too. You chose to be there for her, and that alone made it all so much easier.
"How will I ever be able to thank you for everything?"
A warm smile spreaded on your face, a love - not romantic, not yet - evident in your eyes.
"Get better."
*
And she did. A few weeks went by, during which she came into contact with various people - the most notable being Clint Barton since he knew better than anyone else in the old team how she felt after everything she did, and she started seeing a therapist - one from Kamar-Taj who renounced her old life but agreed to use her knowledge for this very specific case. It helped ease Strange and Wong too, and even if they kept checking on Wanda, it was more in the spirit of making sure she was okay than real surveillance.
Jamie made good on his idea and every week they would select a special dish to cook for Wanda - sometimes with her too. She went ahead and helped the new Avengers from time to time when Clint was busy with his family, and you had the occasion to meet a few of them when they needed patching up and Anath was home. Your place was quickly becoming a secondary med bay for them, and you had to remind them that it was still your place of living, so from time to time they would bring food and drinks and impose a game night.
The friendship between you and Wanda grew, and so did your crush, but you were still hesitant to act on it despite your best friend's sporadic remarks that she clearly liked you too.
"It's not the problem, An'," you told her one day. "It's that I'm not sure if she's ready for a relationship. Hell! I'm not sure if I'm ready."
"Sounds to me like you're just avoiding your feelings."
"Which kind of proves my point, doesn't it? If I were ready for a relationship, I wouldn't feel the need to avoid my feelings." Anath sent you a weary look.
"Why are you like this?"
"Years of unresolved trauma," you answered as you picked up a bag of potatoes to throw in your shopping cart. "And I just… I don't want to rush. Plus it's not because we're soulmates that we have to be together that way."
"But you want to."
You did. Sometimes it would keep you up at night, and you'd have to stay in the living room until she fell asleep so that you wouldn't keep her awake by admiring her - yes, it happened often enough that it became a problem.
"That's irrelevant. She had a husband and kids that she lost inside a month of time. I can't just spring my feelings on her like that."
Anath sighed and gave up. She knew that even if you were now more open to the soulmate subject, your situation was still hard to deal with. If anything were to ever happen, it probably would come in time. You were certainly in no hurry.
*
"So, anything new with Y/n? Maybe a date or two?" Clint asked while he was checking the breakfast aisle with Wanda. She acted like she didn't hear the question, but the blush on her face showed otherwise. Sometimes even just thinking about you would elicit very strong reactions from - and within - her. "Come on kid, it's obvious."
"Well. No, nothing happened. We're just friends." A very sad truth if there ever was one. You had a few 'moments' where there had been a spark, where eyes fleetingly found the other's lips, but neither of you ever acted on it. It was always a bit awkward after with the tension in the air, but it was all but forgotten the next morning when you would wake up in each other's arms. Which might also be something you needed to discuss, because for all accounts and purposes, you were a couple in a lot of aspects of your life. "I don't think she wants more."
"Why do you say that?"
"Because if she did, she had plenty of occasions to show me. Or tell me." She picked up a box of cereals - Kate's favourites - and put it in her cart.
"Have you thought that maybe she's trying to give you space and time?" Clint pointed out in all his wisdom.
"What if I don't want space and time?" She walked over to the next aisle. "What if I want more?"
"Well, then you'll have to tell her." He put some boxed mac&cheese in the cart for Yelena - Jamie hated it. "I know she can literally read your mind, but maybe she has a reason not to act on it."
"What would that be?"
So many answers came to Clint's mind, but he decided to keep most of them for himself and instead impart some wisdom. "What you want is not always what you need, and maybe she thinks that even if you both want each other, you both need to take some time before you rush into anything."
Wanda considered his words. He was probably right, you had always been very attuned to what she needed. She actually talked about it with Therese - her therapist - and pointed out pretty much the same thing as Clint did. You both had heavy trauma, and rushing might cause more damages than anything else. It could cause one of you to panic, or trigger unexpected trauma.
"I don't like it, but I see your point," she said in a careful tone. Clint smiled at her proudly - he could see how far she'd come, all her progress, even if she still had a long way to go.
"I'm glad you do." He looked over her shoulder at something on the other side of the store. "Now I suggest we go, I think Yelena just broke something."
Wanda turned around only to see the assassin and Kate trying to hide their latest catastrophe.
*
Days went by, then weeks and months, and the more time went by, the harder it was to resist your feelings and the way Wanda would look at you, full of hope. It was one you gave her, that now had grown to be her own. It wasn't just hope to be with you, to find a shoulder to cry on so she would feel better, it was all she aspired to do in the future, with or without you by her side. And it was beautiful, but you still wondered if you could do it.
"Wanda!" You heard someone call as you were walking with her towards the portal Wong made - you had taken a habit to take tea with him while Wanda had her therapy session after you helped with Kamar-Taj rebuilding. You turned around to see a young woman with a jean jacket. Wanda recoiled against you, a panic you hadn't seen in her eyes in a while taking over her.
She's right here, everyone trusts you, Wanda, it would be so easy to just take it. Take it. Take it.
The life she dreamed of with her boys had lost some of its appeal to her - maybe because of how heavily she associated it with Vision -, but from time to time, she still heard that voice inside of her, still saw their faces, and heard their voices calling for her. But she kept fighting it, saw it for what it was now, grief appropriated by an evil she was still fighting. Nowadays, her fingers barely showed any signs of the corruption she went through, but she still felt its effects in those moments.
The young woman - America, you guessed - stopped in front of you both, so you took Wanda's hand in order to reassure her.
"I'm joining the Avengers!" She exclaimed excitedly.
"Are they running out of recruits? Between you and Kamala, you're gonna bring the age demographic through the ground," you commented. You loved Kamala, but she was way too young to fight crime. And from what you saw, America was too.
"Well, I'm not joining-joining, but I'll be helping during minor crisis! And if I'm supervised by a senior Avenger, sooooo…" her eyes fell on Wanda once again. "What do you say? Want to team up?"
"I– I'll have to think about it," she answered, her voice wavering.
"Sure! Oh and don't worry about the whole trying to kill me for my powers thing. I talked with Strange and Wong, and they say you're cool now! And I trust them, so, I trust you too!"
That made you wince, and a quick look at Wanda told you all you needed to know without even hearing her thoughts.
"Anyway, gotta bolt, see you soon!"
And with that she left as fast as she came. Wanda and you finally went through the portal and soon enough you were home alone. You turned to look at her, make sure she was okay, but as you did, you could see that she was anything but. Slowly you guided her to the couch and sat her down, doing the same with one leg under you so you could face her.
"Wands…?"
"I– I can't, Y/n," she murmured when she finally dared to glance at you.
"That's okay, you don't have to accept."
"I don't even understand– why would she ask me? I tried to kill her."
You thought about it. "Maybe she feels like your set of powers make you the best candidate," you shrugged. That was the only explanation you could conjure up. If Strange were here, maybe he would suggest that it had to do with the both of you reminding her of her mothers. "I don't think it really matters why, just that she asked and whether or not you feel up to it."
"Do you think I should do it?" She asked you. She would do it on occasion, ask your opinion on matters she had a hard time resolving. She liked that your perspective was usually more global than her, as you would look at the problem from a more distant eye.
You blew up your cheek before you let out a deep sigh. "I mean… you're an exceptional witch, and maybe spending time with the girl might actually help you heal from what happened with her."
Wanda clearly still felt guilty about it, as she should, but if America was ready to forgive her and even work with her, then maybe it was a good occasion to show that she truly changed.
She followed your train of thoughts and nodded. "That's a good point…"
"But you still need time to think about it." That made sense, it's not like it was a small decision to take. She nodded in answer.
"When she approached us, I… there was this voice in me–" she started, and you knew what she was talking about. She had revealed to you at some point how sometimes she would feel tempted, how she wanted to use her powers to make the universe bend to her will, and how hard it was to do so. The first time she told you, she cried so much about it. To her it was proof she was a bad person, but to you it just showed how much of a fighter she was.
"That voice isn't you, you know it," you said as you wrapped yourself around her and she sank into you.
She never answered your statement, but she didn't need to. You could hear her loud and clear, fighting her doubts with your words.
"Why don't we watch something so you can clear your mind a bit, and we can talk about it again tomorrow morning?" You offered.
She nodded and you took a better position on the couch, allowing her to lean against your front, and you put on her favourite show.

Invisible Golden String
Hi! Hi!
Here's my contribution for Aruaniversary!
Happy Aruani Day people! Hope you like my brainrotting.
PS this is an extra from my modern AU fanfic on AO3; Hiding in Plain Sight
PS PS My coworker almost caught me writing this one-shot. Stupid me for leaving my office computer open. Even though he assured me that he would not read my stuff, I still want to die of embarrassment.
Actually a few months ago, he mentioned that he had read some good Aruani fanfics. SO I will never, ever tell him about my shit. I wish the ground would open up and swallow me whole!
Update: Posted it on AO3
Tumblr media
Late afternoon, the bustling noise of Manhattan hits Annie's ears as she clocks out of work. The musty air of the old street lingers on her nose as soon as her stilettos step on the cold asphalt. She pulls her hair out of the collar of her coat and brushes the blonde strands with her slim fingers. Her hair is unusually frizzy today, it' so annoying, she thinks.
Dark clouds are starting to threaten a heavy downpour, so she hurries a few blocks towards East 46th Street.
One, two, three steps at a time, she hurries her way through the crowds on the street. She curses under her breath as she walks past a group of teenagers who are talking, laughing, and tripping. Next, she passes two white-collar women who are talking about office gossip. Lastly, she stumbles upon an elderly couple taking their dog for a walk. They may be on their way home. Annie stops and turns to watch the couple, wondering if she will ever find the person she will spend the rest of her life with. Or has she already met him?
She raises her hand to her neck to tug a piece of chain out from her taupe satin blouse. Her fingers trace a piece of gemstone on her necklace, a natural blue sapphire, just like the color of his eyes.
Every time she looks into those eyes, she feels like she is being lost in the vast, deep ocean. She is drowning in his gaze. Her heart starts beating wildly behind her ribs. She wants to gasp for air, but her body is frozen. Her mind is so lost, it feels like she is under hypnosis.
Her mind starts to wander to what their past lives might have been like.
In a past life, she had fallen into a long coma, and he had visited her, talked to her eagerly every day for four years until she opened her eyes one day.
In another life, he was a commander of some military regiment heading to war, and she was a mere warrior from another nation. They were separated by their beliefs and upbringing, but brought back together by fate. Did she wait for him to come back? Or did she follow him and fight the giants side by side with him? The world would call them saviors on the day they celebrated victory.
Then, after the war, they would travel the world together. They would meet new people, walk in lands they had never been to before. He would hold her hand as the waves of salt water hit their feet, and the white sand of the beach would stick to their skin. He would smile at her, mouthing the words, "We've finally made it."
One afternoon, they would catch a boat with heavy suitcases in their hands. They would sail back to his country, where they had met as young children. There, under the tree up the hill, he would get down on one knee with a ring in his palm and ask her to marry him. She would answer him with a shout of joy, tears streaming down her cheeks.
They would live in a small bungalow house near the ocean. As their hair turned gray, he would stand up and pull her to the center of their living room. He would dance with her, their cheeks touching. His wrinkled fingers would fill the gaps between hers. She would recall their days at military training camp, when they sat at separate tables and stole glances at each other. They would both laugh, amused by the fact that their feelings had blossomed before they even knew it.
Did she lay her head down beside him as they both passed away in old age?
She wonders if, after 100 years, their paths will ever cross again. Will the invisible golden string still be tied to their pinky fingers?
On the bustling streets of New York City, the sky meets the ocean as they lock eyes. There, after 100 years, she meets him again. He is wearing a fine suit, and she is wearing a taupe blouse paired with a tight pencil cut skirt, a trench coat, and stilettos. The glow of the vending machine illuminates his features as he turns to her, holding a can of coffee in his hands.
"I've been waiting for you, Miss Leonhart."
"Well, I didn't know that the Manhattan D.A. Armin Arlert had grown impatient."
He chuckles. "You know I will always wait for you, no matter how long it takes."

My Own Headcanon to Echani Society bc Why TF Not
Most of this was kinda drafted up by me for the sake of a half Echani OC who went from merely lashing out however she could vs the Empire to attempting to nationbuild, as well as grow as a person, and learn to find value in living, so a lot of it was considered with that in mind, and as such it will not be particularly applicable for your purposes. May this serve more as loose inspiration or an alternate take at best. Also warning Eshan here is meant to be *terrible.*
Echani Command was not merely subservient to the Empire, but enjoyed a position of privilege by them. In exchange for treating Imperial officials equivalent to high caste Echani, including access to training in the Echani martial arts, they enjoy relative freedom, being allowed to maintain their own law enforcement, prevent their businesses being nationalized, and generally enjoyed a lax, comparatively unsupervised, existence under imperial rule
Eshan itself is a colonialist planet, having taken the other of the "Six Sisters" in order to exploit their resources
Echani rule was dictated largely by eugenics. People were sorted into castes depending on supposed "genetic worth," a remnant of their time as an experiment of the Arkanians. Low caste echani face various socio-political hurdles, such as access to education and autonomy
Echani of any variety are not permitted to choose their own romantic or sexual partners. Marriage is based on computations over ideal genetic combinations, and are limited to within a caste. To break this is to drop to the lowest rung of the caste system, along with the offspring of such combinations, and those who openly sympathize and teach low caste people.
Battle, other than a means of communication, is seen as a test of "genetic value." To succeed in combat is to show you are of greater worth than your opponent.
While it becomes frequent for low caste people to enlist in Imperial Academy to escape from the burdens it provides, it carries some degree of social stigma, as while imperials are treated as high caste in a legal sense, in addition to xenophobia leading to a sense of superiority to imperials, low ranking officers and conscripts are often seen as "not worthy" of these privileges. These generally go unsaid, privileged as Command is, imperial rule still holds true.
In addition to the assigned Imperial Governor, leadership was held by High Council, with each member effectively serving as an autocrat over the system they represent- though they still would post their own governors to manage on a smaller scale
Position of Councilor may be won in ritual combat with the current holder of said position. While nothing legally prevented lower caste members doing this, combat education beyond the very basics was limited based on caste, such that in effect only the highest castes may possibly claim rulership. This all builds to a symbolic representation of "genetic purity"- where combat prowess is seen as a measure of genetic strength, to be councilor is to assert genetic superiority over all but the other councilors
Combat is primarily conceived of as dialectics materialized, where strength in combat is representative of the strength of a party's ideals. To win is to let your convictions be heard, and while all but the most traditionalist echani judges find victory in combat something that binds one to action legally, to not follow the victor is seen as incredibly cowardly
While High castes are given a theoretically large amount of freedom, they nonetheless face great social pressures, as deviance from social norm is highly associated with "poor genetics" pressure is thus applied to "perform genetic value"
More lighthearted
Eshan's surface is near uninhabitable due to its scorching sun, a white star named Esh. As a result, nearly all life there dwells in the vast cave system spanning the entire planet beneath its surface
Due to the nature of Eshan, much of Echani diet is centered on fungi. Mushroom stew is an incredibly common dish, with many households having their own unique takes on how it should be made
Most animals on Eshan are insects, though many have evolved to convergently resemble other creatures such as mammals at a glance. Traditional Echani armor, though almost never seen outside museums, are made of their exoskeletons, being flexible, though still durable
Echani diplomats and senators are very frequently taught they *can't* challenge people to a duel. This has to be heavily stressed
Echani funeral garb is white, while the garb of the deceased is to be black
Weapons of Echani firedancers are often derived from farming or foraging tools, such as sickle like tools that were designed to scrape lichens from rock- This is allegedly because of a legendary farmer who, upon finding his village razed by bandits, killed all of them with a scythe. It is said his rage burned hotter than the burning village homes
Echani alertness can be a double edged blade- horror stories can get an extreme reaction from even seasoned echani warriors. Offworlders who bring holovids have often been told to ensure any media like that is to be hidden or disposed of
Many Echani clothes are constructed out of silk created from the cocoons of a particular species of insect. These clothes are often designed to be quick to take off, should a fight start and they prove too restrictive. Most Echani do not see any possible symbolism from this, coincidental or otherwise
Post war, many echani writers ruminated on the nature of battle droids. In a culture where combat serves as a form of communication, what is to be said of constructs who don't have any larger point to communicate, who simply fight because it was what they were made and ordered to do. Many echani tend to be put off by these droids, who come across as uncanny.
Echani made products used to fetch high prices in galactic markets, often being handmade artisanal products of high quality. As automation developed more and more, however, these items became more and more novelty: armies could be armed with state of the art blasters for the price demanded for a set of echani vibroswords. Echani attempts to automize struggled, often being low quality, not only in comparison to their specialty items but also in comparison to other similar competitors. As a result, Eshans economy began to center more and more on raw materials. Ironically, some of the biggest consumers of echani materials is MadalMotors.

Totally Spies (Valkyries)- Chapter 7
@sunshinebingo @aelinchocolatelover
“Good. We weren’t gonna take no for an answer anyway.” Cassian replied, the girls’ jaws falling open from their shocked faces. Rhysand elbowed his brother as Cassian laughed.
Azriel, who was standing next to the office desk, pressed his finger on the phone line near the computer. “Armen, this is Azriel.”
“What is it Azriel?”
“Send me, my brothers, and the new spies down to the training center immediately,” Azriel replied cutting off the link between his father’s second in command. “Wait, where is the training center?” Emerie asked as the same tube that took them out of Prythian appeared below the girls again. Nesta only had time to say ‘uh oh’ before they were all sucked into the dark tube.
The tube ride only lasted for a couple of seconds before the girls reached the end. The 3 of them tumbled over one another onto a hard matted floor. Luckily, they weren’t on top of each other. “Ow.” Gwyn whined while rubbing her head. “Why do I have the strangest feeling that he did that on purpose?” Nesta pointed out as Emerie helped her onto her feet.
Once the girls were standing, Rhysand and his brothers appeared through the tube, each of them standing on their feet with ease. “Bumpy landing?” he asked casually as the girls glared at him.
“Nesta, Gwyneth, Emerie. Welcome to the Prythian training center.” Rhysand announced as the girls got a good look at the room. The training center was huge. Bigger than their own school gym. They had treadmills lined up against the walls of the building. There were exercise balls on top of some yoga mats near the back of the building. Some weights rested on the right of the treadmills. There were approximately 5 punching bags hanging up on hooks near the weights.
Stunned by its appearance, the girls covered every inch of the building. “This is amazing.” Gwyn complimented as Cassian chuckled. “You think that’s great; you should see our cafeteria.”
“So, how long do we exactly train here?” Nesta asked. Cassian opened his mouth to speak, but Azriel beat him to it. “As long as it needs to be. For now, we’re just gonna work on basic punching.” Nesta and Emerie closed their mouths, trying not to laugh at what Azriel said. Unfortunately, Cassian and Rhysand noticed their faces. “Why are you guys looking like you’re trying not to laugh?”
“Basic punching? I just punched Jessica in the face in front of dozens of kids. I’m pretty sure I know how to punch.” Nesta gloated as Cassian raised his brow. “Or really. Prove it. See those punching bags over there?” Cassian pointed with his finger as Nesta, and her friends looked to see where he was pointing. When Nesta nodded, Cassian continued. “Go punch one of them and tell me what happens,” he said as Nesta rolled her eyes and walked over to the punching bags. “So, which one do I punch?”
“Either one you want.” Nesta chose the one on the far right. Clenching her fingers into a fist, Nesta brought her arm behind her back and swung it right at the punching bag. It didn’t even so much as flinch. Nesta would’ve been pissed off, but she was more worried about the sudden pain in her fist. Specifically, her thumb. Hissing in pain, Nesta placed pressure on her injured thumb. “I saw that coming,” Cassian called out, walking over to the injured girl. “May I?” he asked, holding out his hand for her to take. Nesta placed her hand on top of Cassian’s, watching him examine her thumb. “Good news, Archeron you didn’t break it.”
“What happened?” Gwyn asked. “Your friend over here almost broke her knuckle,” Cassian explained. “When she punched the bag, she tucked her thumb inside her fist. It’s one of the most common, yet important rules of punching. Never put your thumb inside of your fist. The impact will not only injure your opponent but also you in the process.” Cassian looked back at Nesta. “Next time, make sure your thumb is protected properly.” he advised. As much as Nesta didn’t want to admit it, she knew he was right. Her thumb wasn’t broken but it hurt like a bitch.
Nodding in understanding, Nesta walked back to her friends, Cassian behind her. “Alright, ladies. Like Azriel said, let’s work on some basic punching.”
--------------
For 2 hours, the girls have been doing nothing but warmups, laps, and upper-body strength. Cassian had been having them mimic the right way to punch and every time they got it wrong, he would make them run twice as many laps as they did during the beginning of training. About 30 minutes into their training, Amren had told Rhysand that he was summoned by his father. Azriel had left shortly after receiving a call from someone important. The girls didn’t press for answers, seeing as how they were in the middle of running laps.
After an hour of training, the girls entered a cool down for 15 minutes. They gossiped and mingled around the gym for a while, mainly getting as much rest as possible. Cassian had offered them 3 bottles of water for them to drink during the cool down. Gwyn finished hers in 2 minutes while Emerie and Nesta saved theirs for later.
“Time,” Cassian called out as the girls slumped on the floor, breathing heavily. They had just finished a 3-minute plank. “I gotta say girls, you did a fine job for your first day of training.” Cassian complimented as the girls groaned. “Is that supposed to make us feel better after you made you run 30 laps around the center?” Nesta dared to remark, expecting a glare, possibly even a threat from the big brute. Cassian only laughed at them. “No. But I’d rather you girls get up before I make you do 10 more squats.” The girls hopped off the floor and stood up.
“Good news ladies, training’s over for today. I’ll be training you every week after school.” Cassian as Gwyn butted in. “What’re we gonna tell our parents?” Gwyn asked as she and her friends checked each other to see how bad they smelled of sweat. “You don’t need to worry about that. They know something about...basketball practice, I think?”
“Basketball!?” Gwyn said with startled eyes. She hated basketball. Well, hate is a strong word. She was never into sports. She was the girl with the glasses on her face. The girl who got bullied a lot because of the glasses. The nerdy girl at school who was abused to get homework done for others. She was not an athlete like Emerie. She wasn’t a tough girl like Nesta. She didn’t do workouts or training. Sure, she just finished her first training method today with Cassian but that was only once and with her friends. They didn’t tease her for getting it wrong even when they had to run more laps for it. They encouraged her to try again. If she was in a group with other girls from other schools, she wouldn’t be able to stay for long. Not even for a couple of minutes.
If she was going to stay with Prythian, they had to choose another activity for her outside of school.
Shaking her head with as much denial as possible, Gwyn backed away a step. “No. No no no! Can’t you tell my aunt something else? She’ll know that something is up when I start taking sports.” she begged as Cassian and her friends looked at her with confusion. “Woah hey, what’s wrong with basketball?”
“I can’t shoot a hoop to save my own life. And if my aunt wants some information then she’ll also want some proof. Please don’t make me go to basketball. Please.” Gwyn pleaded with Cassian who looked at her with genuine concern. “Okay okay, I won’t I promise. Which activity do you want?” he asked as Gwyn thought about all the extracurricular activities that didn’t involve working out. “Um...chess.”
“Chess?” Everyone said in unison.
“Yeah. There’s a chess team in school. I’ll just say I’m going there. I play chess sometimes.” she says smiling nervously. The truth was simple. She had no idea how to play chess. She would’ve wanted to learn, but with the amount of studying and cramming that she had to do for other people including herself, she didn’t have time for it. She would say anything to not get picked on for playing basketball.
Cassian didn’t bother to check if she was lying. “Alright. If that’s what you want,” he said as Gwyn sighed in relief. She looked over at Emerie and Nesta who were eyeing her with confusion. Gwyn knew they wanted to know why she wanted her extracurricular changed. She gave them a nod in a way of saying that she’ll let them know later. They shrugged n response.
“Alright girls. See you on Monday.” Cassian said as he brought out a remote with a giant red button on top of it. The girls widen their eyes, already knowing what was coming next. “Wait, can’t we just walk out or something?” Emerie asked as Cassian laughed. “Now where would the fun be in that?” That was the only warning the girls received before pushing the button.
---------------
In Beverly Hills Middle, the trash can that was sitting around the corner near a bunch of lockers suddenly opened wide enough for 3 13-year-old girls to fly out of. Nesta, Gwyn, and Emerie shot right out of the trash can and tumbled right on top of each other, their school bags and things all shooting out with them.
Nesta got up first stretching her back. “Damn, that old man knows how to get rid of his prey.” she said talking about Cassian. “What time is it?” she asked as Emerie checked the clock. “10 minutes until or last period. Mine’s math.”
“Mines English.” Nesta said.
“I have math too.” Gwyn replied as the girls gathered their stuff. “Come on. If we’re lucky-”
“Too bad you aren’t.” The girls gasped and turned around.
There was a tall man in his mid-30s standing before them. He was wearing a grey suit and tie with glasses resting on his temple about his eyes. His hair was short, just resting on top of his head. It was also red like Gwyn’s. He was glaring straight at them. “Afternoon girls,” he said casually. The girls gulped and backed away a step. “My office. Now.” The principal said as the girls had no choice but to follow him to their doom.

So I turned all of Evergreen Harbor into a Military Base!
I call it Fort Promise (Instead of Port Promise lol) It was always strange to me that most of the military builds I see on the gallery are all desert based, especially since I’ve grown up relatively close to military installations. So I made my own sim-ified version!
I built the Main base, the rest of the stuff I got off the gallery. Its been fun, cuz I made several clubs of military sims and made their hangout the base, so the base is always bustling.
There’s a library, bar, strip club (cuz tons of bases have strip clubs near by lol), restaurant, PX(retail lot for military needs), soccer field, military housing, community center, bus/train station, and some apartments.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was my first crack at building in a long time, for the Main base building I used half of a build by @peachandherpan as the shell since I suck at interiors and furnished the rest. The smaller buildings I built myself. I’m gonna be using this base for my Portsim stories. The main base has a rec room, computer room/ small library,  shooting range, gym, cafeteria, and bedrooms.

Just wanted to share, idk I’m just proud of this build since I don’t ever build/furnish.

I want to make a list of why my previous job was so stressful and why it made me so sick for so long but I could not give up because it was my only source of incoming and having my own money helped me with my inferiority disorder tendency
I am grateful for my first job because of the money and the learning opportunities that I had. Also, I left on good terms. I got along with most people, so that made the experience bearable.
But I was reflecting earlier today on what exactly were the causes that made me feel so stressed and unwell while working there.
Customer service can be brutal. My first job was customer service, and my current job is also customer service but the difference is quite impressive.
I thought about making a list of this, so I could have a clearer view of what I think as I organise my thoughts.
Customer Services. A brutal job role at times. Bearable job position other times when you learn how to deal with certain people and not take things personally. Customer service can be good in a way for many people because often times it does not require previous experience, or great excellency at a certain topic. Although most of people I work with have university certifications and those fancy academical validation, we still do the same thing and I only graduated HS. This can open a discussion in many topics, but my point is: IT IS SOMETHING THAT CAN BE DONE BY MANY PEOPLE THAT HAVE NO QUALIFICATION BUT STILL NEED TO SURVIVE IN OUR SOCIETY. At most, will require you a different language, or effort to learn how to communicate with people and master the use of some tools to get issues sorted, which brings me to another item of the list, the training phase.
I assume that when you take a new job role, some sort of training is, or at least should be offered as the bare minimum. The training experience I had with this particular company was lacking in many ways, but we could not even provide our true feedback about it, and I will discuss this more further. The training consists on us being sat in front of our computer, listening to the trainer going through slides 8 hours a day. For this company, there were lots of different things you had to know and master, and this by itself is not necessarily a bad thing, however, when you are in front of a computer 8h a day, listening to someone talk non stop while reading slides, not being allowed to take notes on a notebook or any external source, and having little to almost none chances to put in practice what you just saw.... that felt ridiculous. At the end, we had to provide a feedback about the training, and we have been discouraged to provide negative feedback because this company was a 3rd party working from another big company. So yes, from beginning to end, we employees were kinda fcked in many ways I would say. The few times we could practice what we learned had so limitations, that you could not actually gain experience from it, everything was restricted.
Right out of the training we then started tot are calls everyday all day, which it is the job you signed up for. However, for this company, we would only take calls. And since most of times we were dealing with complex issues, angry people, and so on the job was really draining and tiring, especially because the training was not even near enough to prepare us of what the job really was like. Calls, calls, calls, every minute. Really not even time to breathe between calls you would have, I'm really talking about seconds here. Once a call was finished, another one would come in right away, so you kinda did not have the time to process things well. It is normal for a call center to have non stop calls when something big happens, or when we were short on staff... but this was everyday all day, it felt like big things were always happening while we were short staffed.
Following up on what has been discussed, I want to touch on this high volume of inbounds ALL THE TIME and the lack of dynamics in this job. When I signed my contract I was aware that it would be to take calls, but I was not aware of how much inbounds they would have and how things worked internally, so these things came to my knowledge once I was within the company. Even on the longest days I was like "okay I signed up a contract for this, is my job I gotta do it" but it is overwhelming. Me and my colleagues would often feel overworked, even though, by law, we were doing the paid 40h a week. We would have little to no opportunities to do other tasks like help new hires, or your colleagues. Most of the time you had to sit down and be on the phone, nothing would change really.
There was a lot of pressure I remember, the turn around rate was higher than my will to live. Most people would quit the job within the first few weeks after the training. I noticed that a lot of people would leave the company within the first 6 months, or between 6 months and one year. The co-workers that were there for more than 6 months was really little, that why they were always hiring, promising things that were not that down to reality, I'll touch on that on a bit. As mentioned previously, it was a big company, so the customer expect to be treated like royalty, they expected the highest quality service. Don't get me wrong, I totally get that. I believe that if you pay for something, you should receive what you are paying for, and respect is the bare minimum that we should have on our society. However, the company does have its policies, and even though they would say the customer's feedback was important, it was not that impactful honestly. The guidelines were really strict, and what the company promised to their customer's were really something that we were not allowed to give. So us, the customer care agents were always between a rock and a hard place. Bonuses were promised to us, and sold as something totally achievable... the problem is that the main bonuses were actually out of your control because it depended on the customer's opinion really. Imagine the following, a loyal customer that has been with the company for like 5 years or 20 years, calls in with a complex issue. The first thing that comes to mind is, we should be able to solve this in an easier and efficient way, however, this 99% would not happen because we had so many guidelines. Then, the customer would feel super upset and unsupported, meaning a bad survey would come in, meaning that even if I made all the work right, that bad survey would rule out my chances to receive any bonuses.
Along with the guidelines, we had little to no autonomy. I got to be a senior on my job role within 1 year of taking calls, and after taking care of calls of another 2 departments. Being a senior, you might think that we have more authority, more things we can do, we can help them in a different way maybe. Honestly, being a senior there meant that I would just say NO in a different way, the small little different things we would do was not that motivating... and the little extra we were being paid was not enough, because as a senior you deal with extra upset people, an extra complex issues, and again, most of times, you are just reinforcing a NO.
Like every call center, we have a quality team that make sure every guideline is being followed. It's their job to coach you, point it out what need to improve and what is okay and I have nothing against that, I would actually value their feedback at lot. And my assessments were really good. Something that was not so funny, is that since our main bonus was handled by the customer opinion, QA team would heat those calls and evaluate them, however, even if you have done everything right, they would find something to point it out just because the survey was negative. Because as part of their job, they had to find a reason why a customer gave the company a bad rating. But then, the few times we would have some 1:1 they would often say, yes in this case it was really a customer issue, not yours. But of course, at the end of the day, you had too meet so many metrics, deal with so much trouble, and the nice co-workers I had were for a long time, what made everything a little easier. In regards to QA, I was a little too easy on accepting that I did something wrong, and it was my fault again, mental issues... but I think I am standing up for myself more.
Okay so I talked about the unhelpful training, the lack of authority and dynamics within the job role, the ridiculous metrics that we had to achieve in order to get a decent money at the end of the month, now I think it is worth mentioning that the job role felt pointless after some time. Because it was stressful most of the time, you were doing the same thing all the time with little margin to change something, after a while the feedbacks you get were pointless, and you had almost no room to grow into other roles within the company. You could grow until certain point, and after that if you would like to do something within the company differently of what you were doing, you had no opportunity. Even though most of people would quit within a short time, there was there a few people that was there for like 6 years doing the same thing, taking the same calls, dealing with the same people. This to me looked hopeless. I was so tired, and anxious and stressed that I did not wanted to do my job. I just wanted to leave. I was there for a 1 year and a half, and there were a few times were I felt so burned out. The first few months I struggled so much, because it was my first job, everything was messed up and I was trying to cope but I could not do it by myself. I faced a lot of health issues during that time. After around 8 months I think, I was tremendously tired and fatigued. It took me another 3 months to get back to "normal". And then, when I thought I was doing well, and I could keep doing the job for a little more, they decided that I would be a senior, which I despised with all my being. I did not have a choice, it was really either you grow or you leave. I could not leave. I had to face it. I was hopeless really, I expected the worse. I was a senior for like 3 or 4 months before I decided to quit. Being a senior was awful but not as awful as I thought it would be. My supervisor at the time was awesome, I loved him as a person and as a co-worker. He encouraged me to stand by myself and was more like a friend there. Then he left, I was happy for him. When he was leaving, I told him that I was applying to another job, by that time I think I was between interviews, and I told him the interviews went well. He was so happy for me.
Overall, our job was to help our customers, but the way the company wanted to help them, was far from what the customers wanted to be helped. I kinda understood both sides, but still imagine being at a job role that you are supposed to deal with something complex, make that as easy as possible on the customers and provide them with solutions, but the guidelines won't allow you to. It is sad really.
When I told my supervisor that I was planning to leave he super encouraged me. In this company, when people would get better opportunities everyone would be super happy for them. We kinda shared the same struggles so e were like YES TAKE THAT JOB YOU DESERVE BETTER
When I was forced into being a senior there, I told myself that I would like to find another job by the beginning on 2023. The manifestation worked and I started on my current job on the end of November. By January 2023, I was already working on the position I applied to. It is also customer service, but with a different service, with a different company. I am enjoying so far because even though we have guidelines, we do have some authority to make changes as long as we can back ourselves up. Most people are friendly too, and it seems like there is room for growth. We assist our customers on different channels, so not only phone calls. On the busiest days we do have a lot of contacts, but there are days that we are more chill.
I have been there for like 3 months, so far I am enjoying but I don't want to glorify anything. I want to see how it goes long term. My plans is to master what I am doing in order to move out from customer service.
Let's see how it goes.

Machine Learning in Natural Language Processing: Advances in Sentiment Analysis
Natural Language Processing (NLP) and machine learning have combined to revolutionize how we analyze and comprehend human language. Sentiment analysis, a branch of NLP, is at the vanguard of this change. It entails using machine learning algorithms to determine the emotional tone, opinions, and attitudes represented in textual data. In this post, we will look at the most recent breakthroughs in sentiment analysis, including its uses, problems, and impact on various industries.
Sentiment Analysis Is Important
Sentiment analysis is critical for comprehending human behavior and decision-making processes. Customer evaluations, social media comments, news stories, and financial reports all benefit from sentiment analysis. Here are a few examples of how it is having an impact:
Customer Satisfaction and Feedback: Companies employ sentiment analysis to assess customer satisfaction and find areas for development. It aids in the resolution of difficulties and the enhancement of the overall customer experience.
Companies monitor internet mentions and sentiment to safeguard their brand reputation and make data-driven decisions regarding product development and marketing initiatives.
Market Research: Sentiment analysis provides vital insights into market sentiment to financial analysts and investors, allowing them to make informed judgements about stock investments.
It is commonly utilized in understanding public mood on numerous social and political problems, which can be valuable for policymakers and campaigners.
Sentiment Analysis Advancements
Recent advances in sentiment analysis have increased its powers and accuracy:
Deep Learning Models: By capturing complex contextual information, deep learning approaches, particularly Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) and Transformers, have considerably enhanced sentiment analysis. Models such as BERT (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers) have produced cutting-edge results.
Fine-Grained Sentiment Analysis: Traditionally, text was classified as positive, negative, or neutral. Advanced models may now perform fine-grained sentiment analysis, revealing insights into various emotions and intensity levels.
Multilingual Analysis: As markets and social media become increasingly globalized, sentiment analysis algorithms are getting more adept at analyzing content in various languages.
Contextual Analysis: Modern sentiment analysis models take into account the context in which words or phrases are employed, allowing for more accurate sentiment interpretation.
Problems and Considerations
While sentiment analysis has made great progress, it is not without challenges:
Ambiguity: Language is inherently ambiguous, and grasping context remains a difficult challenge. Sarcasm and subtle language can be particularly difficult.
Bias and Fairness: Models can inherit biases from training data, which can lead to inaccurate predictions. Maintaining fairness and minimizing bias is a constant problem.
Data Privacy: Sentiment analysis frequently entails the processing of personal data, which raises concerns regarding privacy and data protection.
Real-Time Processing: In some applications, sentiment analysis must be performed in real-time, necessitating efficient methods and hardware resources.
Conclusion
Sentiment analysis, powered by machine learning and natural language processing, has fast evolved into a diverse and effective tool. Its uses span across industries, providing useful insights on customer behavior, market mood, and societal trends. As deep learning progresses, sentiment analysis is projected to become more accurate and sophisticated. This technology will likely shape commercial strategy, political decisions, and our knowledge of human emotions in the next few years.

Trip 3, day 11. The day started with Tanya and her family leaving. Out new volunteer Paul drove them to Krakow. They will be staying in Bury which apparently has a well established Ukrainian community (that was present before the war). Tanya has been very useful as an interpetur so she will be missed.
I had a potentially complex day ahead, with the possibility of multiple trips to the visa centre ahead. We would again be checking for Julia's daughter, I also needed to check if the new family were ok to travel with an aunt listed as the kids dependent instead of their mother. A family of 6 would also be arriving in Warsaw by train, they needed to get to the visa center and then back to Heavenly Hostel.
I called up a UK helpline to find out about the rules regarding visas with dependents. The operator confirmed my viewpoint that so long as the person listed on the visa is travelling with them, then they would be fine. However the operator sounded like they were not all that confident in what they were saying so I would double check at the visa office and if necessary come back and get the family to hand in the voided visas.
Certain food items seem to be disappearing very quickly from the communal kitchen so another food shop was required, at least a lot of fruit is being consumed so people are keeping healthy. I added a few boxes of ice creams as the weather was heating up and these seem to go down well the day before.
I took Julia and her daughter to the visa office in the minibus. This was crunch time, if no visa was there or a misprint happened we would have to contact the media. I've been very cordial with the people working at the visa office this week. That can be very difficult under the pressure of disappointment, frustration and anxiety. It is hard to strike the right balance of attacking the problems without upsetting the people working there, but I am improving my skills in a diplomacy.
The news was seemingly good and we got a number for Julia's daughter. I had to leave them to wait as I went off to pick up the family of 6. Before I left it was confirmed that the auntie of the new family can be the dependent for the kids, so that was some good news in the bag and the family are now ready to travel to the UK.
The traffic in Warsaw was very busy and it was a hot day, however I had plenty of time to meet the family of 6. I parked up near the pickup location and found a coffee shop that did a perfect decaf cappuccino from freshly ground beans, very tasty.
Not long after the pickup time passed I received a message that the family was in a different location, in fact the dreaded Warsaw Central train station that has almost no parking whenever I go there. As I approached I was scouring the streets for parking opportunities, assuming they could walk 5 minutes and meet me. There was thankfully some parking available a couple of minutes walk from the stationso I shared my location on WhatsApp and they appeared fairly quickly. During all this I learned that Julia's daughter had received her visa - amazing news and a massive relief. That was an 11 week wait in total.
From what I could gather the family of 6 had left the Kiev region two days ago and spent a couple of nights in humanitarian centres in Lviv then Przemysl, so were pretty exhausted. It was 3 kids who spoke pretty good English, their parents and a grandmother. It turned out they all had visas except the grandmother. She had been notified 4 days ago to visit Warsaw to pick up her visa.
When we got to the visa office I was a bit confused that the grandmother had a biometric passport, this wouldn't usually mean having to come to the visa office. Like the rest of her family I would assume she would get a permission to travel letter.
The immigration officer went upstairs to check for her visa but before they could make it out the room the official was stopped in their tracks by one of the three people who run the computer checks. Apparently the visa was not here at all. A maelstrom of confusing information was mumbled at me by the person checking the computer systems.
Apparently the grandmother had just had her old non-biometric passport renewed and this was done since her application was started. The change in passport numbers had upset the visa system yet again and caused a security check to delay things. But I asked "why wasn't she being sent a permission to travel letter?".
I was told that when someone was processing her application they decided that because she had her biometrics done recently that meant it would be very inconvenient and unnecessary for her to have biometrics done again in the UK. I didn't know exactly why she wouldn't have to do that when the rest of the family do, they all have biometric passports as well. Anyway, they decided it would be better for this group of 6 to travel all the way from Ukraine to Warsaw to get a visa there instead of the grandmother doing biometrics with the rest of the family in the UK (it takes 30 minutes). I honestly can't believe how hopeless Britain has become, please engage the brain instead of randomly pushing buttons.
So I now had to try explain to this poor family why they had been told to travel so far for no reason. The dad had limited English and the kid trying to interpret was understandly completely confused. I asked the officer if the grandmother could be sent a permission to travel letter a.s.a.p instead of waiting for this visa to turn up, he said he would try but it would be Monday before anything could happen.
The family was not really understanding what was going on as we went over things again and again. I also lost the thread and had to ask the computer bloke what the original problem was. All while Julia wss waiting to get home. I eventually got it sorted but it was such a pain. This group was supposed to be here for a few days and now it might be a week. Yet again the government is responsible for wasting our resources, donations are given to help as many refugees as possible, not to plug holes in a failed visa system.
So with the day taking a turn for the worse we headed back to Heavenly Hostel. We only had a 4 bed room empty and 3 beds in a 5 room. The family didn't want to be split up so we had move a bed upstairs and reconfigure things. Then I had to call the families hosts and explain the visa problem. With that done I hid in my room and took a 30 minute timeout.
Once relaxed I played a bit of football with one of the parents, Vlad and another boy. Vlad took to kicking the ball as high as possible, it was a matter of when not if it would go over the 20 foot fir trees and into the neighbours garden. Surprisingly we got a good half hour, I at least got to meet our neighbour, he says it happens all the time. As I was retrieving the football Paul returned from Krakow, apparently the drive back was not so great and added an hour onto the  journey but Tanya and her family were safe in Bury, so that was good.
As myself and Paul decompressed in the kitchen the 3 kids I had picked up earlier appeared and were keen to practice their English. We had a long interesting conversation and eventually it transpired they were all musicians. The next thing we know they are singing traditional Ukrainian songs as a 3 piece choir, with harmonies and plenty of theatrical performance. They youngest, an 11 old girl sang like a professional adult - it was gobsmacking. Myself and Paul were blown away. Other people in the hostel came down as they could hear it upstairs. It was the kind of performance people would pay to see and with the patriotic songs being sung with such passion it was a moving and magical end to the day.
