honestly one of my wishes for Rebirth is that Barret's date is taken a bit more seriously

like i know the scene in the OG is very funny and iconic with Cloud going "hoo boy" and all that but i wish they'd take this opportunity to open up to each other a little. i hope they have a more meaningful/mature conversation this time around even if they still add the comedy bit

Hi, I'm sorry if this question has been answered before, but what are your views on the whole Cloud not answering Tifa when she asks if he loves her. I'm not entirely sure where it's from, sorry.

Sure, it might have been asked before, I know I've answered it before, but I've talked about this subject in many places so it might not have been on Tumblr. Either way, the question doesn't bother me, it's a good question since people bring it up a lot, so having a chance to reiterate the answer isn't a bad thing. The scene you're talking about is from the short story: " On the way to a smile - Episode Tifa". Like with all these supposed rebuttals to Cloti this argument fails when you look at the situation honestly for more than two seconds, and is actually Pro-Cloti. Firstly, this argument suffers from the same problem that I brought up a while back in my article concerning "the most misunderstood quote in the LTD". Namely that for this argument to make sense you already have to admit that Cloud and Tifa are in a relationship. There is not a person on earth who would walk up to random friends in the middle of the night and wake them up to ask them whether they love them. The scene is framed as Tifa being in Clouds bedroom, and since Tifa is never mentioned to go to his room and Cloud seems to not be surprised about her being there Occams razor will tell you the most likely reason she's in his room is because they're sleeping together. So even if we look at this situation in the most pro-Cleriths way possible then we still already have a situation where Cloud and Tifa are in a relationship, because only in a relationship does it make sense to talk about relationship issues. And since the very notion of stories is to have a resolution we can also surmise that by the end of the story these relationship issues are in some way fixed, either by them going their separate ways, or them working it out. And since we've discussed the nature of the issues Cloud is facing in depth on this page and have discussed how they are resolved, we know the answer to these questions. The issues are resolved by Cloud returning to Tifa and the children, as has been explicitly stated by the developers.

Inside, I felt one thing was for sure: Cloud and Tifa would be together. Everybody would be back home where they belonged. ~ Nojima - Reunion files - pg. 70

Let me stress this again, the most PRO-Clerith version of this argument has Tifa and Cloud being in a relationship and working it out by the end. And in reality it's even more pro-Cloti than that. The very fact that Tifa is concerned about Cloud not loving her implies that him loving her is in some way the standard. It's not that Tifa and Cloud are friends and it's going so well that Tifa is wondering "wait, does he maybe like me more as just friends? does he perhaps....LOVE me?" no, the implication is that the accepted state of affairs is that they were two people in love, and that she is now questioning whether that's actually the case. Now note that Tifas insecurities by themselves mean nothing. Tifa can be extremely jealous of Aerith and completely convinced that Cloud is depressed because he actually loves another woman, and yet be completely wrong about that, as is clearly the case. Whatever insecurities Tifa might reasonably have, they're pretty clearly shown to be false by the sub-sequent events of Advent Children and all the quotes surrounding it. We know the reason Cloud was depressed, we know the reason he left. As I have discussed in depth here: "why does Cloud think about Aerith if he's not in love with her" as well as on other articles. In short, Cloud is depressed because of Cherophobia, PTSD, Fear of failure, and guilt, and his ultimate reason for leaving is due to his Geostigma. Tifas romantic worries are shown to be unfounded. Concerning the scene itself, a lot of people pretend that Cloud doesn't answer Tifa, that is incorrect. Cloud is asleep when Tifa asks the quote. When this wakes him Tifa changes the question to "do you love Marlene". The reason she does this is most likely because she's scared of the answer, she chickens out and instead of repeating the question, which he missed on account of BEING ASLEEP, she changes it to something less directly threatening to her heart, "do you love Marlene". The most important thing to note is that Cloud answers in the affirmative, he DOES love Marlene. Most importantly, this answer also serves as an answer to "do you love me?", either because Cloud straight up heard Tifa (I don't think he did, but some people pretend he did) and is answering her indirectly, or because this is how you use storytelling to provide an indirect answer to the viewer. The scene illustrates, in general, that Clouds issues are not due to a lack of love. There is a different problem, what is that problem? Well, I've already provided you with a link showing just that. Let me also quickly touch on what happens later on in the short story in general:

Cloud is looking for a way to atone, which he finds through Denzel.

“So the problem was resolved?” Tifa asked. “Which problem?” Cloud responded. “Your problem.” “Oh…” Cloud thought about it. “It’s ok if you don’t want to tell me.” “I can’t really explain it well…” Cloud warned before starting to talk. “The problem isn’t resolved. Well, I never tried resolving it for a long time, I think. You can’t retrieve lost lives.” Tifa nodded silently. “But maybe we can save the lives who are in a crisis just now. Maybe even I can do it.” “You mean Denzel?” “Yeah.” “Hey, do you remember what you said when you brought Denzel here?” “What did I say?” “A lot of things. Even if I opposed it, you would bring him back with you. I could just feel it.” “That…” Cloud was making a face like a kid who thought he would get scolded. “Tell me. I’ll decide whether I’m angry or not after I listen.” Cloud nodded and continued. “Denzel had collapsed in front of Aerith’s church. That’s why I thought Aerith lead him to me.” Saying all that in one breath, Cloud looked away. “You went to the church.” “I didn’t intend to hide it from you.” “You did hide it.” “I’m sorry.” “I’m not saying you couldn’t go. But next time, I’ll go with you.” “I understand.” “And you’re wrong, Cloud.” Cloud was perplexed as he looked at Tifa. “Aerith didn’t bring Denzel to you.” “Ahh, I only thought that…..” “I didn’t mean it that way.” “Aerith brought Denzel to our home.” Cloud gazed at Tifa and finally smiled. __________________________________

This provides further evidence that the issues between Tifa and Cloud weren't due to a lack of love, but were due to Cloud suffering from the guilt of failing to protect Aerith. He doesn't know how to deal with that because this is not something he can take back: "You can’t retrieve lost lives.”. However, he is looking for a way to atone and thinks he's found one by protecting those who are still alive, in this case Denzel. Subsequently his situation with Tifa seemingly improves. But then the story ends with Clouds sudden disappearance, and Tifa wondering if the improvement, and the accompanying smiles, were a lie. The story lets that question linger, it is a cliff hanger, the set-up for Advent Children, advent children is supposed to answer the question, and it does. The answer to the mystery of why Cloud suddenly disappeared when things appeared to be improving, is that he contracted Geostigma.

Cloud never had a candid personality to begin with, and although he started living with Tifa and even started working, he obtained a peaceful living he’s never experienced before, and this conversely made him anxious. And in the midst of this he contracts Geostigma himself, and rather than being able to protect the people dear to him, he instead was forced to face his own death, and so ran away.”-Nojima in AC prologue.

Case closed, Cloti wins again. Like always, whenever you look at any scene in the larger context you come to the conclusion that it perfectly fits the overall story and concepts proposed by Clotis. It's the remarkable coherency of this interpretation that in my opinion is it's best proof. Cleriths propose a very shallow story, they never look deeper than "Clouds actions revolve around romantic love, therefore, every action has to either directly prove romance, or disprove it, there can be no unrelated issues". There is no nuance there, no understanding of deeper concepts. There can't be, because as soon as you try to add those the interpretation falls apart at the seems, you run into a hundred conflicting quotes and a thousand themes that don't fit together or are downright bad. You get stories about a man abandoning sick kids because he wants die die to be with a dead girl, for no other reason than that he knew her for one week and now is obsessed with her. There is no story here, no beauty, no lessons, no morality, just a weird shallow death cult, and the biggest proof that it is a cult is how they can look at a scene like the one you proposed, and delude themselves into actually believing their shallow misrepresentations constitute "a good argument".

i'm so excited for cloti's gold saucer date in rebirth. i wonder what they talk about in this picture from the trailer, seems like tifa is sad over something and cloud agrees with her. i saw some people saying that they are gonna look at the posters and talk about jessie because she was an actress at gold saucer and yeah, i think that's most likely the case.

then we got this shot of their date. notice how cloud is not crossing his arms like he often does and his body faces slighty to tifa. she always respects his personal space and he definitely feels comfortable around her. i personally don't think tifa is gonna half confess her feelings to cloud like in the og because she knows he's mentally in a weird place right now. tifa is a patient person and i don't think she would feel the need to tell him before aerith does. the girls are better friends in the remake.

all i know is that their date is gonna be special like tifa's resolution scene where we got a glimpse of real!cloud. it would make sense considering they know each other the longest and the best. 🐥🐬

Stygian pisses me off. Along people like her who say wishy washy stuff like "at most he probably thought she attractive he not blind, probably has fleeting feelings but those are bland compared to his feelings for tifa" where? Where are those?! Some talk about bro code but even before the whole Zack thing, he's already so mean in costa del sol. He's already Disgusted at the idea of a "couple gondola event". He's already mean in Remake even after that Cursed resolution. In fact it was after the whole Zack bit that he started trying to be kinder and more tolerating. It's No bro code, that concept was Never a thing he thought of. Do you know what he thought of? He DIDN'T think "oh zack gf, i should back away" , rather it was "oh zack gf, I should be more kinder because everything Zack cares about I care about as well". I bet he was super guilty and saddened about not remembering Zack and not telling his parents what's up. He Loves Zack third to Tifa and Claudia. aerith isn't even close enough to the list, heck he was more cool with barret and yuffie. He hit it off with yuffie so easily and they just met!, she can even understand his perverted tendencies about Tifa. Something not all of them see. Actually it might just be her who knows lol.

Anyway, these Statements Don't hold up and will contradict because it's Not canon. I just don't understand how they see these things that Never existed? Did they play the game? Did we play the same game? I don't understand why even entertain this? Do they Not understand the material given to them? Why are they even here? There is so much about FF7, and "ltd" Doesn't even exist. It's all in their head that Only loves to argue but stray away from canon and factual evidences.

Every time i hear them talk about him and his pov about aerith, it just makes me get turned off of him and want to Never support ct. Heck, I'd be the #1 to fight against it. I'm starting to wonder if they even like tifa, cloud or even this IP. Nojima didn't write him this way for them to downgrade and water down his character and his story and feelings about tifa.

This guy NEVER wavered. And while I think aerith was only saying what she said in her resolution as a sign she Never understood him at all (creepy date was Very Clear he Doesn't see Nor will ever see her that way, yet she missed this lol) and was indeed only talking to herself. All these so called "attraction/ fleeting feelings" some think AREN'T REAL, IT'S NEVER THERE. It's all in your imagination and you have to ask if they even enjoy FF7, tifa, cloud and ct to begin with. Or do they wanna hop onto c /a's train that if zack and tifa didn't exist this that wtvr despite Nojima writing about how these characters are Totally Incompatible in ALL levels.

Srry for the rant. I'm just so Sick of this wishy washy attitude. I think FF7 fans are so lucky to have so much material to fight against these but some ignore them. If this was a real debate, they've lost immediately. You deal with evidence and canon as support. Not use essays, what ifs , and half assed assertions such as those. It just sounds like they're afraid of being wrong. But foolishly they already are. Credibility goes down Immediately.

I understand that frustration when clotis make Aerith apologist comments that encourage dumbasses because they'll use it as a talking point to say "even clotis think Cloud was attracted to her!!!!" which is why I take myself away from those kinds of discussions because it's bullshit and I don't wanna argue with moots.

Before we had the material ulti plus scene showing that Cloud literally didn't recognise Aerith in her red dress a lot of us went "well he's male and she's dressed up 🤷" but then we got the scenario and the script that showed he literally didn't know it was even her and he was just surprised some random woman is walking towards him with a red carpet being rolled out and shit.

And then with the swimsuits, he isn't even looking at Aerith. He glances at her face then immediately checks out Tifa and we get that in the first person pov, so we see exactly where he's looking. Then he gets all shy and stammers, and they flirt. But, even when Aerith also matches he doesn't reply to her saying she needs help with the sunscreen, so he avoids her flirtation. He also constantly shows and tells her that he isn't happy with her yanking him around and calling everything a date.

So, given the literal evidence, no cloti should still be going around saying he finds her attractive. He clearly doesn't.

And idky we must have Cloud seeing her as attractive or being attracted just because she's a woman. She ain't pretty. That's not just me saying it. That's literally what we've been told throughout the games. She was called homely in wall market, Zack said she's only pretty from certain angles, nobody compliments her looks or style, and yet we're supposed to believe that the man who is panting after Tifa Lockhart, who is literally described as a bombshell, would also find someone subpar attractive and be interested in that because he's a man.

That's a pretty shitty way to view Cloud.

an objective analysis of ship content in ff7 remake!

i am a long time fan of ff7 and with rebirth rolling around the corner and ff7 fans all over the internet getting into arguments, i decided it would be a fun project to look at "shipping" content and make a judgement on which of the three most contentious ff7 ships has the most """"support""" in the current remake material!

a little background about this project: i was curious to see if there was an objective way to determine which ships of the 3 that are most commonly debated as canon (CloTi, Zerith, and Clerith) have the most content, as someone who is not aligned with any one ship. i didn't include other popular ships like AerTi and Zakkura because, as far as i know, the content for those ships is not commonly disputed! these ships, as well as the ships i did include in this post, are valid in their own right therefore this feels like a good time to explain that this is not a project meant to challenge the validity of any one ship! this is simply a thought experiment, by me, to see if there was a way that someone could objective determine which ship had the most irrefutable official content. whether you find that to be compelling enough to call one or more of these ships "canon" is not a judgement i can make. ultimately, there's no way to be completely objective. determining one scene as romantic and another as not romantic is not a purely scientific process. but i will outline the process that i used below!

how did i determine what media was included

not all ff7 content was included here. i decided to go with media i thought was representative of the remake continuity. the reason for this was to avoid doubling up on the same events, and also to be more in line with the new content, which is considered separate from the old content. i did not include the ultimania because despite this post proving the contrary, i do have a life, and going through all the ultimania plus their various translations sounded exhausting.

ff7 remake and intermission -- obviously, this was included as the central piece of media in the new continuity

crisis core -- having been recently remastered, this was included; i also felt that having been remastered spoke to its overall importance to the new content

advent children -- the developers of ff7 have noted that advent children is a piece of the new compilation as well, so it was included

trace of two pasts and picturing the past -- these two novellas told from tifa and aerith's perspective are the most recent additions to the ff7 remake franchise and were included

additionally, i included all four trailers for ff7 rebirth because of personal and fandom interest!

what scenes were included

to be as objective as possible, i looked at multiple sources to make judgements on what could be included "shipping content" for each ship. this meant browsing social media, for the most part. this way, i was not relying solely on whether or not i interpreted scenes as romantic.

initially, a tally across all 4 works yielded the following content/scene count (shown on the first graph above!):

CloTi: 54

Clerith: 35

Zerith: 30

to get this count, all scenes were included regardless of 1) whether they were interpreted for multiple ships, and 2) whether they were optional. this is simply a total of all scenes across all content.

how i narrowed it down

for the sake of maintaining objectivity, i made a few adjustments to the first tally. not all scenes could be considered objectively ship content, even with the benchmarks i was using. so additional rules were put in place and scenes were taken out if they met the following conditions:

optional: all optional scenes were removed. neither tifa nor aerith's resolution was included in the final count. the train sequence with tifa and cloud was also removed.

one-sided: this one hurt my heart a little.... but for the sake of objectivity, any scenes that were one-sided on tifa and aerith's part were removed. you might be wondering "why not cloud"? and the simple answer is because the love triangle debate about canon is centered around him. regarding Zerith, i removed scenes that were one-sided on zack's part using the same logic. i want to be clear that in no way am i criticizing any of these characters for having one-sided or unreciprocated ship scenes, nor am i of the mindset that cloud's affection has more or less value than anyone else's. this was just the best way to achieve an objective result and answer the question i posed.

multiple interpretations: scenes that can be interpreted as being for multiple of the included ships were not included for either ship. a notable example would be: cloud and aerith's scene in the park which can be counted as both Clerith and Zerith content. another example would be leslie's flower necklace, which is often attributed to both Clerith and CloTi.

the final tally

after eliminating those scenes, the new number of scenes for each ship was as follows (shown on the second graph above!):

CloTi: 33

Clerith: 22

Zerith: 19

as you can see by comparing the graphs, the results did not change much.

conclusion: based on the metric of current total romantic scenes together across the current remake ff7 compilation, CloTi has the majority of content at 44.6%, followed by Clerith with 29.7% and Zerith with 25.7%.

what does this mean? basically nothing -- a ship having the most content is not necessarily an indication of "who ends up with who". like real life, fictional romantic is dynamic and rarely ever linear. a couple that has many scenes together in the first half of a movie might not see each other for 40 minutes of run time toward the end. realistically, the same could be said here. at the same time, what is shown above could very well indicate the tone of the story moving forward -- there is no way to predict where the plot will go!

but i had fun looking into this from an objective pov and i hope you found this interesting, if not thought-provoking!

final thoughts

maths and numbers and whatnot is a fun little interest of mine, as is ff7! i am open to adding to this work (for example, calculating totals for each work individually, comparing them, etc.) if there's enough interest :)

I really honestly don't get the appeal of cloti (and I don't want to cause fighting about it, that's not why I'm writing this)

Because, this is what I got from the game and supplementary material..

Child Cloud hovers around Tifa and her friends, but isn't able to join them because he's shy and they don't invite him.

Cloud first time talking to Tifa is telling her he leaves for soldier to be like Sephiroth, a hero.

They didn't became friends after this either because Tifa has no memory of playing with Cloud or him being in her room.

Tifa clings into the idea of being saved by a hero, and since Cloud said he would become one, Tifa starts to imagine Cloud as a hero after he left.

They meet years later at Midgar station, Tifa doesn't remember Cloud until a while and then takes Cloud in because he's messed up.

She keeps quiet about Cloud not making sense because "she doesn't want Cloud to leave" (She still doesn't know Cloud)

At North crater, Tifa starts to wonder if Cloud is just a Sephiroth-clone made to look like Cloud like "Sephiroth" said.

Lifestream event, they come to the conclusion he isn't, Tifa also remembers that she doesn't know Cloud, he just used to hover around them.

Under the Highwind, they talk about how they don't have a home or anyone to go to like all the other party members. (It's like Tifa's resolution scene in Remake, a comforting cuddle happens)

Case of tifa, Barret, Tifa, Marlene and Cloud live together.

When Barret's gone, Tifa and Cloud aren't getting along, it's bad enough she has to force herself to talk to Cloud.

Story ends with Cloud leaving.

Advent Children, Tifa's and Cloud's last scene talking together is an argument.

To me, they have a nice impression of each other when they don't know each other, but when they do, they don't get along. It's downright uncomfortable at times.

This isn't written to "discourage anyone from shipping them" or anything like that, I just wanted to write down my thoughts. I do like their relationship because it plays with and then subverts childhood romance tropes, and the fact they don't get along without it being "funny bickering" is wierdly refreshing being a relationship between a main character and one of the main female characters.

[So I just got inspired by a conversation I had with @silver-wield about this Cloud&Tifa video below I blogged 2 days ago already, how deep Cloti's connection really is displayed, and how watching it made me feel even more convinced that we totally get endgame feels for them in these various scenes comprised. The video just shows canon material and uses only original dialogue. It made me wonder if the same feelings would be evoked by a video of Cloud and Aeriths Scenes and dialogues.]

Besides English isn't my first language, please overlook grammar and spelling mistakes. I'm sorry it there are too many.

There are many opinions who belongs with whom.

Many people who covered this also and I love and respect most of their analyses on it. Not even sure if I added anything new but here are my thoughts on Clerith endgame qualities (& a bit Cloti).

I like Aerith and she is very important. I just don’t see her as the intended endgame partner for Cloud.

This is all an opinion in the end:

Don't get me wrong this relationship is heavy with feelings as well. But it's no endgame. Cloud and Tifa belong; for various reasons we all discuss daily ;). Clearith's core story is heartwarming and heartbreaking all at once. For me it's a tragic relationship on both sides.

Aerith sees a familiarity in Cloud, something reminding her of, & letting her hope for better days. She sees a strong person who resembles Zack so much. He is handsome and his eyes have the same quality.

She desperately wants to belong (like all of our 3 heroes) because she was alone most of her time. Zack was her first love and a friend. But he is gone. She is heartbroken. Even though she is beloved in the slums by many and has Elmyra, she still feels alone. Zack was someone she confided in. She can't tell anyone the extend of these feelings. Not in the beginning. Always trying to cover up with that flirty cheery attitude. She wants to move on...that much she has uttered to Cloud...but saying and going through such a loss actually are two different things. In OG it was more ambiguous and Aerith was much more determined on Cloud.

Remake gives us (or me)much more clarity. She seems to be aware that it all is flawed..her feelings ..his feelings. (I suppose she even was able to feel that something happened to Zack since she has a connection to the life stream. And it is heartbreaking.) While in OG that was not prominent. You can tell how much she likes Cloud still in the Remake ...but also how much she knows she doesn't belong with him. When she sees the flower in Tifa's Bar, when she sees Cloud and Tifa interact.. when she asks Cloud about Zack indirectly.

Clerith to me is like 'could have/ would have' all the time. If she wouldn't die. If Zack was still alive.. if Cloud actually would be able to connect the dots of Zack being her first love.. if Cloud regaining a glimpse of his past wasn't blocked by the barrier of his fake persona so often, always interrupting progress of remembering Zack, of remembering what happened. Would it be Clerith?

It more seems like in the Remake she is aware now (due to parallel time lines/timetravel...whatever) that her part in this story is not that of Clouds love interest. That's why we get that resolution scene with her. It is scripted that way for a reason. As well as the part where she spots the flower or tells Tifa to follow her heart at the pillar.

Maybe there is a wish in her to be with Cloud if only the circumstances were different. But they aren't and she is no egotistical monster bitch. She kind of backs away. And I love that the devs made me lean to believe this.

Cloud on the other hand also lacks/ misses out on many things:

5 years of his live, his home his family. He lived through torture if barely and severe trauma. He put up a fake persona to shield him from all this grief. He made himself that numb, that he rarely connects to any strong feelings a person would have usually.

Like people on anti depressants. Numb to the very high and the very low array. Just being indifferent. We meet him like that in the beginning of OG/R. When he meets Aerith in chapter 8 he already started to open up a bit to the Trio and Tifa, Marle and others. Meeting Tifa opened the Door. She is essentially his drive to move on ever since their childhood, same this time. But Tifa is more subtle in her approach. Her personality is warm and grounded, but she respects that Clouds needs space and is treading lightly, cautious because she seems to feel he is different than in their childhood. Aerith's overwhelmingly positive, coaxing personality contrasts this but also opens this crack in the door even wider. Like I said she is important. He is affected, he feels drawn to it/her.I am convinced he is, because he has no association with her. No past. It is light and bright and also not real. She, trying to overcompansate her sadness. Him, rarely being able to connect to his true self and feelings. He is unaware, she is though to a certain extend (like I mentioned above ) is aware.

His attraction also is spurred on because she is more fragile (Than Tifa and others)..he wants to protect. He is loyal. He wants to be strong and he wants to be acknowledged. Aerith asks for help, is clumsy and looks even helpless sometimes( Walk from the church over the roof tops f. ex.). I don’t say she is weak but her asking for help, he feels like he really is that persona he created for himself. And such feelings can turn into love quite easily. But these feelings to be as good as a Soldier 1st class, to protect and be the hero root in his true self's desire to be all that for Tifa. We can’t discard this either. He also helps Avalanche because Tifa asked.

So again..a pinch of could have/would have..it's heartbreaking.

And in the end it's a dead end for Clerith. Not only because she dies. But because he regains access to his true feelings again (lifestream scene)..and they are with Tifa.

Man~even while he has no access to them he is like a hen around its chick with Tifa.😊 Touching, watching, eye contact all the time (just watch this posts video below).

If anything, Aeriths death brought him further away from being with Tifa completely because he feels he failed yet another important person. A person he even might have loved because she was a friend. He hates this feeling and he blames himself for all the deaths, especially Aerith's. And he is so afraid to lose Tifa like that as well. That's why he keeps his distance later especially in Advent Children. Even though we have the Night under the High Wind.

Because if losing a person like Aerith, yes all lovely and sweet and bright and a friend, but if losing a person after several weeks, can do that to him, what would Tifas death do to him?

He doesn't want her, Marlene or Denzel to suffer if she sees that he has a supposedly terminal disease.

He doesn't trust himself to be really enough for her. He can't face her and leaves and has another episode of self isolation and self doubt. In his mind (?) he talks to Aerith ( and Zack is there as well,yaay) he seeks for forgiveness until he realizes he has to forgive himself first. Aerith and Zack reunited in the life stream, his friends, like his big brother and sister or like guardians watching over him, encouraging him as well to trust in himself the future and his loved ones. He sure loves Aerith, but it feels like a different kind of love from his love for Tifa. And this is fine. I would never say he doesn’t love Aerith. But it’s not in a romantic way. Maybe there was an attraction building when they met in sector 5, a curiosity. But for me his bond with Tifa overpowered this in various scenes before and after that section.

So Cloud leaves, nearly ghosting his family and Tifa, and as a fan of Cloti that was hard to watch, but seeing his reasons I came to accept and understand that he needed this.BIn the end yet again their bond is strong enough for pulling them back together again. He goes to stand with Tifa, his family his friends.

In the End Tifa welcomes him back and he finally starts to believe things will be better.

So for me there is no gravitational romantic pull between Aerith and Cloud but between Tifa and him.

This is a bit all over the place and I didn’t put in sources to prove my points because many others here in the fandom did in their analyses. I took a bit of additional intel from everyone's impressions and my own conclusions on the canon.

I just wanted to give my impression.

Aerith and Tifa’s scenes in this game are so tender and romantic, I actually wonder if they were written that way on purpose.

Really think about it.  Doesn’t that seem like the type of thing Nomura would do?  “Oh, these two camps (Clerith and Cloti) have been at war for over two decades.  I should probably provide a straightforward resolution...  Actually, I think I’ll just create a third camp.”

Twice/Hawks Anon: Is the top 5 ask game still going on? If so, then what are your top 5 fanfics (they can be from a mix of fandoms)?

I’m gonna do 2 categories one for Long fics and one for One-shots cuz I’m an indecisive bastard :P

Long Fics

[ATLA, Zutara] emletish’s Stalking Trilogy [1, 2, 3] (yes I know the name sounds bad but trust me it’s not creepy lol), is downright hilarious and adds so much worlbuilding to an already rich universe. This trilogy is long af, almost a million words long, but it’s so so worth it. The dialogue is brilliant and the character writing is great. It’s been years since I’ve read this fic but it’s always remained in my mind as one of the best stories I’ve ever read. 

[Persona 5, Akeshu] It’s really hard to choose one long fic from the Akeshu fandom cuz it’s full of really talented writers and there are so many amazing fics but I’ll have to choose New Game + by Tayani. I binged this fic during lockdown and I can say it was a great decision XD. Reading this fic was such a wild ride and I’m such a sucker for time travel fics. The way everything comes together at the end is so satisfying! Honestly I should just do a separate fic rec post for Akeshu fics cuz there are SO many great fics 

[FFVII, Cloti] Horky’s Diaries of A Broken Man, this fic has such a great and funny take on Cloud’s character and I love it. Cloud’s character is so wonderfully dorky and awkward in this fic and reading his journal entries puts a smile on my face every time. However do not let the dorkyness and fluff fool you there is angst to be had in this fic and by the time I reached the end of the fic I was sobbing my eyes out ;w; 

[FMA, Edwin] hangonsilvergirl’s It’s Not a Big Deal as you can see I have a weakness for funny fics and this one is no exception! This fic is a wrong number AU and it’s hilarious. The chemistry between Ed and Winry in this fic is amazing and the character interactions between the rest of the cast is great!  

[BNHA, Dabihawks] darling, thank god it’s this universe we’re in (and you can annoy me as much as you please) by juurensha. This is just a really neat Everything is better AU and I’m here for it! The mutual pining and obliviousness is both hilarious and frustrating but thankfully the payoff is so worth it! 

One shots 

[Persona 5, Akeshu] Crooked Hands by coolkidroland. Hands down one of the best fics I’ve ever read and the best take I’ve ever read on the Goro!Palace au. I can’t say more without spoiling it but this fic is mind blowing and it holds a very special place in my heart. 

[BNHA, Dabihawks] love has conducted us unto one death by aradian_nights. Out of the 391 dabihawks fics I have bookmarked it would be criminal of me to not mention this one. This is the first dabihawks fic I read and it’s the one that made me fall in love with the ship and showed me dabihawks’ potential.  

[Persona 5, Akeshu] Stalking, Attempted Murder and Karaoke by Tren. This is technically the 5th part of a larger series and should probably be considered a longfic but shhh I’m cheating. This fic has The Best Goro & Haru confrontation I’ve read in a fic and kudos to the author for being able to write a satisfying confrontation between the two. People tend to write Haru as too forgiving or too harsh when dealing with Goro and while those interpretations are valid they’re not to my taste personally. But this fic? Ohoho the conflict and resolution between the two is delicious and I loved the karaoke scene SO MUCH. I can’t say more without spoiling but if you’re a Goro or Haru stan I beg you to check this fic out.  

[Naruto, Kakaobi] Akatsuki Babysitter's Club by beetlebee. This fic technically has 3 chapters but it’s short enough that it could be a one shot so that’s why it’s here :P This fic is exactly as the title suggest: after Kakashi decides to take Naruto in the Akatsuki decide to become his baby sitters. If that’s not enough to convince you to read this fic idk what else to say 😂 

[Persona 5, Akeshu] the garden of eden by relationshipcrimes. This fic... I don’t have the words to describe the emotions this fic made me feel but they’re overwhelming. It’s dark and raw and it blew me away. Goro’s and akeshu’s portrayal in this fic broke my heart but at the same time it’s morbidly fascinating. I remember after I read this fic I just stared at my wall for half an hour cuz this fic was so raw and overwhelming but in a good way. Tho fair warning if you intend to read this fic please Read The Tags.

Hmm I get your point now about the "Zack feelings" I really do, so thank you for this! But personally I don't equate it as soldier cloud having feelings 'himself' but that it's just as way to force him to go farther away from tifa. Which we literally have to do in the game, to get her affection stats up. Also, to place that in is to also amplify that CA is never a thing that has it's own entity, it's all built by the illusion of ZA, which aerith is suffering from as well. Only idiots which they are, will be happy for such a lie, and at that point it's easier to just show zack and be done with it. I really don't get the appeal of it, because we have telenovelas where, for example a heart transplant is made and you fell in love with the one who the original owner loves but you love someone else already. In the end, the mc just forces himself to see what's real and like servers his ties with the owner's underlying wishes had he lived. He is not this person and he is only in love with his first love. Aka not real.

You see I'm trying to wrap my head around her resolution scene about something not being real. And I did find a cloti who insisted, that soldier cloud is incapable of falling in love because his affections, his ability to love is locked within the lifestream, that is for tifa only. Now, so whatever romantic feelings he may have, any sort of "falling in love" feeling he may have for her, is not love , but just 'attraction'. So it isn't real. But this is where it becomes weird to me. So soldier cloud cannot love but he can feel attraction? So this is him feeling attraction for aerith... While shamelessly pinning for tifa at the same time? I assume this is for the fans who want to get her hence the "even IF" and not "even THOUGH" because not everyone will favor her after all in they playthrough. But it gives precedent that if jenova, us the players favoured her.. that would mean soldier cloud is capable of being attracted to her in his soldier cloud way without the interference of 'zack', hence still felt by his own feelings but not to the extent of real cloud's?

This doesn't make sense to me because in part 1, it's very evident that he is not attracted to aerith in any shape or form. But it is built up that he is very much so with tifa. So the 'attraction' part just makes me go huh? In this theory. Doesn't paint him in a good light even if it's not his fault, but the player's.

I suppose im just finding a way to see if cloud, despite being forced by the player to do things, will not waver ever. After all affection points show the character chosen's affection for you, but not necessarily the mc himself.

I hope I made sense, I hope I'm not annoying. I've seen some really believe in this cloti's theory and it just sends weird vibes to me, so in short it forces me to just believe that soldier cloud is fickle in nature but this isn't real cloud anyway. Real cloud is loyal to tifa. Hmm... It would be great if this is evidently clear but still it seems as though it hints a disgusting possibility that had cloud been complete and never broken? Maybe he would be attracted to her because he did when he was broken, but it's just that tifa came first so it cannot be. I hate it, so this is why I don't like this theory I keep on seeing. I just don't see cloud have a thing for women who mess with his boundaries as shown with almost all the females in the game. Tifa is the only different one on purpose.

English isn't my first language so saying all of these across was difficult but I hope I made sense. I still think there's more that can expand on this part of soldier cloud in general though. It's pointless for me to find a direct answer for everything now anyway, so I'll just wait. I just don't want 'any implication' that aerith had a chance in any way, because Tifa deserves better than be another choice unlike how cloud is 'the one' for her alone. Strict, I know.. but I don't care.

Okay it's not that soldier Cloud has his own set of separate feelings, it's that Cloud has feelings, but some are neutered by jenova so it's like he gets a diluted version of them. There's also Sephiroth manipulating him for his own purposes, so he's under this constant state of mental assault.

Cloud loves Tifa. It's the core of his entire being. Everything he ever did was to be worthy of her in hopes that she'd fall in love with him. That core can't be removed. We see what happens in OG when Cloud loses Tifa's trust. He pretty much falls apart and goes full black cloak doing Sephiroth's bidding. That's why Seph wants to keep Cloud on edge around Tifa. The less close they are the more control he has, but jenova hates Aerith. She hates cetra because they purify the planet's energy and her goal is to rot it from the inside and use it as a ride to the next planet so she can repeat the process. That's why Aerith has to die from Jenova's pov. But Sephiroth is using Aerith to force Cloud to keep his distance from Tifa because around Aerith he is more distant from his true feelings.

At no point does Aerith stand a chance with Cloud because Cloud's true feelings for Tifa always exist, even if he can't fully reach them all the time. When he's around Tifa he becomes closer to his true self, but he won't be himself until the lifestream scene.

Thank you Harley, me too I miss them so much and I wish we had more happy Cloti moments to work with. The resolution scene is great but kind of sad & angsty because of the circumstances.. Chapters 3 & 4 are probably the happiest we’ve seen them so far.. and I love all of their little moments ♡ Can’t wait for part 2 even if it will hurt our feelings, I just want to see my favorite characters again.

Tifa week 2020 - Day 6: favorite relationship.

(Talking mainly about the remake here)

Favorite relationship: Tifa Lockhart & Cloud Strife.

Without rambling *that* much, what I loved from them was how much they genuinely care about each other, without making it obviously romantic for no reason (and probably excessively); why is that? Usually I loved their relationship mainly for what happens in the whole Mideel segment of the game (with lifestream being the chef’s kiss moment) onwards; now we are way early in the story, so I don’t expect nor I want them to be over each other with heart eyes when they both have other priorities, especially Tifa, knowing that something’s off with him in comparision with her cute childhood ‘friend’, loving scenes like these

There’s this emotional gap for the reasons we all know and love, but that doesn’t stop them to show concern and actual care for each other almost impulsively. Because even if one is building a fake persona around him unconsciously, and other is more focused in why’s something off with her own memories, they are each other’s link to their past and, now non existant, hometown, that want to protect. In Cloud’s case, this intensifies as he remembered the promise by himself, a flashback that doesn’t involve any fake memory but rather from his real -child- self

This probably even triggers Cloud’s almost self-imposed obligation to be the hero and save her like he promised maybe tooking it too seriously, and that’s a thing I like about Tifa in regards to that: she has nice memories of the cute child he left Nibelheim, she doesn’t care if he is a superhuman hero or not, she appreciates more the soft caring side of this boi. Maybe that’s why he has such a puppy face when she told him she will be fine here, it’s funny, & cute that he acknowledge her strenghts too

Meanwhile my favorite Cloud->Tifa moments were by far those little signs of him wanting to comfort her but not knowing how to and it shows some frustration from his part about it CLENCH FIST INTENSIFIES. In particular, my top underrated moment may be this scene, both how he approached her carefully and not knowing what to do seeing Tifa lost it at the situation + offering his hand for a sec waiting for her to react, until he had to make a move to escape quickly.

All these little moments Cloud has are a built up to the resolution scene in Ch. 14, when he had that same frustration face of not being able to help/comfort her, in the way Barret could for example, until he could break for a second that protective hard wall around him that separates his real self from this current fake persona. A sweet meaningful moment of comfort between two childs who lost their homes and family at the hand of the corporation they’re fighting against (again); I’m not even talking in a romantic sense, I just loved that for the implications and the context of it.

For references, here is a nice “Cloud & Tifa can’t help to try save each other” thread, that it’s very cute and the subtle moments are what I like the most...well, maybe not more than Tifa saving the hero and “teasing” him a little bit

did I say I didn’t want to start rambling? lol sorry.

I can say tho, that my first idea was making Aerith and Tifa relationship my favorite one of the remake (again, bc cloti hits me during Mideel mainly), but knowing the context of some things, like Cloud being genuine/showing a little bit of his true self while interacting with Tifa, or how seeing Barret comforting Tifa made him want to do the same, I think it was cute as heck already, and a big set up for what’s to come.

Nonetheless! I do have an ->Aerti thread<- I did back in March with the OG+compilation moments, because I was tired to see people pity them against each other knowing that it was going to happen again; and I’m sure I’ll make one again with remake content because DAAAAAANG they are cute friends.
