sorry for the late reply i had this sitting in my inbox for a while trying to figure out how not to go on a 3 page rant

in short: you are so right tbh

i mean taking on the ferrari colours can change you in a fundamental way: it basically becomes a way of life, even a religion. it even changes the language you speak. and there's always the weight of expectations (we have seen this with basically every ferrari driver since schumi) and its so easy for it to become all-consuming

the team itself has always felt to me like an old monarch, who had their glory days but now there's nothing to back up that reverence in the present day

but yet !! i suppose there is something special about winning the championship with the red car, (i think many drivers have said something about this) being a part of something that is so entrenched in f1 history etc etc.. the stockholm syndrome is real bcs its something that maybe appeals to the deepest, most carnal part of the driver (the foundation of their belief)

and the sport is so full of what-ifs that all this niggling regret is part of the narrative :) so yes it did jump out at me, nano wanting that title with ferrari despite everything

Okay okay so

Since I finally watched Degeneration the other day, I keep thinking about that one scene she has with Leon after they manage to escape the airport outbreak where theyre talking in the tent together, and Leon tells Claire that she went down the path that he and Chris couldn't. And I keep thinking about the Why of it all, why it is that she went the civilian route and working with an NGO instead of being on the front lines fighting like Leon and Chris are.

Because the thing is, she Very much could be in direct combat if she wanted to be. Shes proven time and again that she's extremely capable of holding her own in a fight, whatever training Chris gave her growing up clearly went to good use and she's got the skills to keep herself alive.

But she doesn't Want that.

Yeah Claire may be capable and competent, but it becomes very clear when you see her actively doing work for Terrasave that That is the work shes both extremely talented at, and that she Thrives under. I'm saying this as someone who works a person facing job and takes care of people for a living, but that line of work?? Takes a very specific disposition and demeanor to be able to actually do and do it well. Claire not only has the patience to do all the paperwork and the office type bullshit that comes with the investigative work that Terrasave does, but she also has the kind of compassion that you Need to actually be doing the legwork required to assist people in the aftermath of a crisis. Part of Terrasave's work is to hand out medicine and vaccines and food and stuff like that in areas that have faced outbreaks and are now trying to recover. And if you watch how Claire interacts during the times we get to see her on that kind of duty, Especially when shes working with kids? It's clear that thats the kind of work she's really meant for, and that shes Good at. And in a universe like Resi that's so torn up constantly by outbreaks big and small, there's always going to be a demand for people like her in her line of work, folks who are both good at working with and helping people directly, but who can also do the legwork to help with the more office oriented side of things when it's called for.

Leon is right when he says Claire took the route he and Chris couldn't. Leon both can't because he's been blackmailed into being an agent, but good god could you imagine him trying to do paperwork at all?? The guy gets antsy when he's not out in the field doing active work, or he sits around and gets too deep in his thoughts and not so great coping mechanisms for all the trauma he's been through. He's built for combat even when he (rightfully if you ask me) complains about getting thrown into it. And Chris?? Chris fuckin Redfield?? He's not an office worker either. And this isnt to say that he can't be good with people after crisis, we see how good he is with Rebecca after the university outbreak in Vendetta. He's not Lacking in compassion and care. But he's also someone whos a bit of a hothead and doesn't always have the best handle on those emotions, and he often channels that into fighting directly on the front lines, which is exactly why he's so good at what he does both with BSAA and eventually with Hound Wolf. He's also someone who's just way more suited to front line work and can handle it.

There's always going to be a need for people like Chris and Leon in the field sure, but there's even More of a need for people who do the clean up work, who are good with Helping People directly and who have the patience and care needed to actually make sure survivors are taken care of, and Claire proves time and again that even if she Could be a combatant, she's one of those people who's really suited for the field she ended up in, and she clearly finds purpose in doing that kind of work.

And tbh? I think she had that revelation after finding Sherry in RE2. Sure finding Chris had been her original motive for coming to RC during the outbreak, but the moment she finds Sherry alone and in need of help, and ESPECIALLY after Sherry gets infected and Claire sees how negligent Annette is to her needs?? Claire puts Sherry first until she Knows for certain that she's going to be okay. And I have no doubt that that experience, coupled with Claire's own orphaned upbringing and seeing how Chris probably had to take on a more parental role to her while they were both still kids, is probably what led her to working with Terrasave and being more civilian oriented.

Not everyone can do the work that she does, and that's why it's important that she did actually end up in the field she did. There's always going to be a need for more people like her than there are people willing to or capable of doing it, especially in a universe like hers.

for simplicities reasons LOVE hogs bc they all shit in one corner and they’re soooo easy to clean - cannot stress how stress free making wallows and dusting are in regards to hog care

for actual love rhinos bc they are really like puppies in tank suits & our baby SQUEAKS

for interests sake i love the painted dogs bc they are so smart and conniving and spit out their meds even when stuffed in mystery meat

we don’t really work with elephants except to shovel like (7*3 is 21 *100 is 2100) 2100 lbs of shit every day

and giraffes are cute and all but stuffing lettuce in jugs suckkkssss and their poop rolls when you scoop and it’s a pain

i still havent finished re2r properly so ive only seen other ppl get to the parts with sherry while half paying attention but like. i would die for her. i would throw myself onto a licker for her. and leon would too and i wish we got to see more of that

i know its still too early to talk abt it and i wouldnt want it to happen this early either but. if they remake re6 someday i HOPE they go more into leon and sherry's relationship. im assuming that they havent seen each other once ever since raccoon city (since the extended re6 files mention claire hanging out with her only) and then they suddenly see each other again in china and they just. didnt get to talk too much. yeah sure they were constantly in danger and we got to see how protective leon still is of her AND THAT MAKES ME HAPPY but i just. idk im sad that we didnt get to see them interact more...

the extended re6 files on re.net have so much important stuff in them, both abt leon and sherry.... and you never hear them talk abt those stuff ever anywhere else. i hope they put that in the games someday :(

D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t. Ah so you want me to be controversial I see? 😂 I think...I gotta go for Daisy and Billy from Daisy Jones and the Six. And it's not that I don't ship them necessarily - in the book, I was all for them, like rooting for them from the beginning, I would forever love them above everyone else. But the show really made me fall in love with Camila, and I realized in the book I loved the fact that they never acted upon their feelings for so many reasons and that's what I found so beautiful about their relationship. So it's more of my moral compass not allowing me to fully ship them - in another life they'd probably be my OTP!

G - Have you ever had an OTP? If so, do you remember your first one? Who was in it? SO many OTPs! I have one in almost every fandom I've been in. As for my first one...I think it was technically Percy and Annabeth from PJO. They're my OGs. Surprisingly though, I eventually got way more into Travis Stoll and Katie Gardner from PJO, and they eventually surpassed Percabeth haha. Which is crazy because they're not actually canon, but I got way more into that ship than I ever did Percabeth (although I still love them so much!)

yes i love khachaturian (i mean the first things from him that i really hyperfixated on were the concertos and masquerade suite)

i had a tchaikovsky and sibelius phase in 2020 but that was mainly because of the violin concertos HAHA

my lifelong loves are the holy trinity of spanish piano composers (albeniz, granados and de falla) im just. obsessed with the spanish piano writing tbh

i also love the impressionists! debussy ravel satie etc. as you can tell conventional harmony isn't really my thing, i basically like to let the music surprise me :) it's more fun to listen (and play) like that !

not the biggest fan of the hardcore romantic era superstars BUT i've heard some pretty life-changing things (wasn't a fan of chopin until i heard louis lortie and cho seong-jin live in concert im still reeling to this day and there Are some hauntingly beautiful gems from that era yes)

i'm also fascinated by scandinavian and japanese choral music bcs the harmonies are just so different from the standard stuff we hear in the west but i will shut up now :)

back with another question!! i was thinking about you and i can imagine you have hundreds of little stories about your job. what's some instance you will never forget it was so memorable?

that's a good goddamn question...because i suddenly have no thoughts in my head.

but, okay, here's a good one. this is gonna be a little long tho...

our intern coordinator really likes to issue time challenges, like 'i bet you can clean this entire holding in six minutes' kind of time challenges. so this time she says to me and (Other Intern) as we're sucking down some AC post-push-brooming-the-whole-fucking-elephant-barn "hey ladies if you get barn hosed in under thirty minutes you can do something fun with any animal" so

me and (Other Intern) fucking run into the barn and we get that shit DONE. like twenty six mother fucking minutes fucking done.

(elephant barn consists of one person using 100ft fire hose to wash down six stalls, two hallways, and a squeeze chute. the second person clears out the gutters full of shit and hay which ultimately gets all over you)

we usually take 45-60 min to do. TWENTY SIX minutes.

our reward was taking the sling shot and some produce out onto the tram road and throwing it to the elephants. (Other Intern) hit an elephant in the face three times. i hit myself in the face. it was glorious.

but yeah, besides the baby rhino, this is a pretty memorable experience.

Rambling anon: Should've including that in the original comment but hindsight and all, anyways, the interviews were in CFC CAP! #6 (pages 12 and 13) which is archived on the internet archive (archive dot org) so it should show up in a google search. It's in Japanese, I'm not sure if you understand it, but it's been translated into English by the Umbrella Project and also somewhere else if you don't and I think those should also show up in the search results. Or you could run it through a translator app but those things are iffy.

P.S. Don't let the name fool you, this was Capcom's official newsletter magazine up until like 2002. The current official magazine is called Cap-Bon, they're fun to read because they usually have little backstory tidbits like this one. Also, the interview with Leon (in #6) discusses him being an orphan so I'm glad that's getting recognized.

I'd love to read your thoughts on Leon's and Claire's interviews after you read them. I like all the little things that flesh their characters out, makes them seem more like real people.

i couldn't find the translations but i found it easy to just screencap the text and then copy it into google translate and it can translate it for you. the translations are a bit sus at times, but it's mostly readable.

i'm glad that more canon is being recognized! i read through them (at least the best I could!) i think it's funny how leon doesn't like expensive alcohol but i kinda didn't expect him to lmao.

also laughing at the fact that claire doesn't even like "the type of guy" leon is 😭😭😭 but another thing is that leon calls claire a kid again dsjfbskjfs
