Hiya, Trainers!! Bulbagarden has been a yearslong partner with the Catch A Million project and Saint Baldrick's Foundation to help fund childhood cancer research -- we're trying to help raise $100,000 USD in donations this year, as well as trying to help catch one million Pokemon, so hop on over to our Twitch channel (where we're doing a special streaming marathon) if you're interested in supporting us and the project!! More information at the official Catch A Million website as well! (this ends on the 14th, but you can still participate as well!)

February 4th is World Cancer day so I wanted to take a moment to briefly acknowledge this. As I have posted about before last October, Barbie has a history with the subject of cancer as her creator Ruth Handler was herself a survivor. As a result it is no surprise that Barbie has had tie-in dolls with the Susan G Komen foundation.
Tumblr media
Also worth noting is that Mattel has an ongoing collaboration with CureSearch, a childhood cancer charity. Mattel's contribution here is with Brave Barbie, a doll line now running for over 10 years.
To quote the Executive Director of Mattel Children's Foundation and Corporate Philanthropy, Nancy Molenda, as quoted in the linked article on the CureSearch website:
Brave Barbie is given to children that are going through difficult cancer treatments so that they can see themselves and feel comforted that they’re not going through this alone.
Tumblr media
Brave Barbies are donated to children fighting childhood cancer and depict either a light-skinned or a darker-skinned doll with no hair as well as a 'natural' coloured wig, a cute multi-coloured wig and a bandanna.
Mattel has also produced another doll in a similar range; friend of Barbie Ella, who was not for retail sale, but available only by donation to childrens hospitals, and depicted a friend of Barbie experiencing hair loss due to chemotherapy.
Tumblr media
Cancer is a tragedy that affects many people and I am not going to ask you to donate to any particular charity or to engage in any particular kind of activism but I do encourage you to seek out a charity that suits you and that you personally would like to see support behind, if you are in a position where charity work or donations are right for you at the moment.

Tw// cancer. Loss. Child loss of cancer.
It's one of those nights I wonder why I'm here when so many cancer fighting children aren't. A little boy who was diagnosed a little before me passed away today. He didn't deserve it. None of us deserve this. I don't understand it.
I want to make a difference. I'm not sure how yet, but I will. And I encourage you all to as well.
Donate to charities. Make meals for families going through this. Donate toys to children's hospitals. Volunteer your time. Check in on your cancer survivor friends and family. Be there for them.
This isn't the most well out together post, and it's not my normal content, but I needed to say it. I love you guys.

Terminal (12): Oh, the light!
TERIMINAL: Oh, the light! - Chapter 12 of an #epicpoem inspired by #escapril2024 prompts telling the story of a six-year-old with #childhoodcancer
An epic poem inspired by Espcaril 2024’s prompts. First, there is a buzzing, like a bug in Aviana’s ear, or a tiny hummingbird zooming by, and it is so loud and quiet at the same time that she can barely process that it isn’t real and that nobody else is hearing it; Second, there is helium in her veins, or at least it feels like it because she is absolutely certain that she is starting to…

It's....been a day.
Some of you may know about Yossi, the 16 year old boy from my community who was diagnosed with a glioblastoma in his brain stem in January.
He passed away in his sleep this morning, after battling cancer for nearly a year.
Yossi was an incredible boy. He was so energetic and happy, he loved playing pranks and making jokes. Last year on Simchat Torah, he manned the grill for the community barbeque. When I worked at the synagogue as the children's program director, he would sometimes bother me because the boys his age excluded him. I didn't mind, he reminded me so much of my own brother.
During community dinners, he would sit at my family's table because he looked up to my younger brother as a mentor. His mother was my violin teacher at one point, and his younger sister would try to help me at work.
Sometimes I struggle to understand why such terrible things happen.
May the neshama of Yosef Simcha ben Shloime Yehuda have an aliyah, may his memory be for a blessing.

Hello lovelies!
So yesterday something was placed on my heart and I wanted to ask you all of something. So for a lil background my younger sister was diagnosed with cancer a while ago and lived at the hospital, it's been five years and she is all cured (praise the Lord and the doctors) but we were very much impacted by the people that helped her. Which is St. Judes. Yesterday, I found out several people I know have family members that have cancer, and while it's not childhood cancer that my sister went through, it's still cancer. So with that on my heart I would like to ask one thing. St. Judes has a part of their website where you can write letters to the children. They will print it out and then give it to them. When my sister went through treatment, this is something that she got, and it encouraged her and made her smile so much. So if you could, would you maybe consider writing a letter to them? I'll put a link so you can find it but it really brightens their day and it would mean alot. Thank you!

Ok so I have to write an Essay for school every month right, this month I chose Neuroblastoma. Weird and random choice right? WRONG. My brother had Neuroblastoma (my boys been cancer free ten years he’s good) and his oncology appointment is tomorrow so today is Leo’s anxiety day on “what if he relapses” sooooo here we are with me reading about the cancer I already know a lot about so I can write a report on it and hope my brother doesn’t relapse
(The absolute joy of being a cancer sibling- any other cancer siblings around? Y’all get the same anxiety?

If anyone still uses this, I’m looking for help to support my stepdad. We lost my stepbrother to cancer last night and he was staying with us for treatment. We need to transport him back to his home for services which can get costly on top of all the other bills (funeral services, medical bills). I’ve created a go fund me to give to my stepdad to ease the stress of financials. He promised his son, my step brother, that he will go home. This will make it happen.
Anything helps, but if you are unable to donate, please pass this on and pray for my stepdads healing through this process.

I’m going to let this go, but I will continue to paint my toenails mint every summer in memory of her.
May her memory be a blessing forever.

It’s lookin like there isn’t a lot of posts on here about this-
The song Ronan by Taylor Swift was written about a very real 4 year old boy named Thompson who died because of childhood cancer 12 years ago. His mother made a blog to document her family’s journey with cancer. On that blog she published a handful of poems. When Taylor’s mom was diagnosed with cancer, Taylor found this blog and wrote this song- using some of those poems- and listed Ronan’s mom, Maya, as a co-writer.
Ronan’s 16th birthday is today (5/12), and Maya has requested that it be a day for love, and life, and joy (and also the color purple)
