You're one stop away from making dreams happen again, you shiver with anticipation and take a deep breath, thinking back to your favorite group of students when they were younger.

At that point, it was within the early years of your teaching career.

After the class of 86' you didn't teach as often but when there was an important mission or the admiral's needed someone they knew could get the lieutenants properly trained, they called you.

You take a deep breath, walking down the hallway, realizing you've missed the feeling you (still) get walking down the halls towards your next group of lieutenants.

You walk down the pathway in between the desks much like you did when you taught his class.

Another reason for the text, he's late and Beau wants them to learn now.

You turn and eye each of the lieutenants, seeing who's confident and who's not. Something else you were known for, identifying the weak and making them stronger if they're up for it.

It was how you got him back when he lost his family.

They don't call you "Sly Fox" the Modifier for nothing (you wish your husband didn't get that started, it's stuck and you can't get rid of it).

The corner of your lips twitch, remembering more of your infamous class of 86' only because of the overly confident blond sitting in one of the first few seats.

You lean against the podium, clasping your hands together. "Who thinks they have what it takes for this mission?"

They start turning, glancing at one another.

"Do you?" You turn your attention onto the infamous Hangman.

He smirks, messing with his toothpick. "I don't think, I know I do."

"Cockiness gets you and your crew into some seedy situations."

"It get me out of them."

The door opens and your favorite captain enters.

You straighten your posture and turn back to him. "These people are you crew, you need to have their backs, or no one will have yours and you'll be alone."

He walks down the path you and uses the confidence you told him to.

The one you've claimed as "Mini Mav" turns, flipping his toothpick before sinking into his seat, followed by two others.

"It seems it's my time to leave." You throw a wink in Pete's direction before walking towards the opening.

You didn't see the way Bradley's eyes widened at the way you interact with him.

He has a vague memory of you hanging out with his family once or twice and calling his mom after losing his dad.

"Don't have too much fun, Mav." You pat his shoulder, "you've got a live one."

He furrows his brows.

You glance back at the class once more before deciding to take your leave. "Good to see you again, Bob."

He smiles and waves back at you.

Natasha turns to him with furrowed brows. "How do you know her?"

He shrugs, "she taught my first class a while back."

"She remembers your name?"

"And," he shrugs.

"You were so her favorite."

You make your way to the opening of the hanger and sigh, "I told you guys to- no, no."

You pinch the bridge of your nose and groan.

One of the technicians runs back into the hanger tripping over his feet.

You pull up beside him on one of the carts. "I told you not to run. I wasn't upset."

"I beg to differ ma'am."

You grab them by their collar. "I'm going to show you a thing or two. I was trying to help you."

You drive back out without looking back, already knowing that Beau is shaking his head while Pete and the class are trying not to laugh.

"Do you get it now?"

He nods. "That wasn't as complicated as I thought."

"Good, now do it again to this row." You can see the excitement fall from his face and can't help but chuckle.

"No, kid. She's just messing with you." You husband wraps an arm around your waist, pecking your cheek as he places his hat on your head. "Hey, sweetheart."

You smile and lean in for a kiss, having missed him with the grandkids out at school and spending more time with their friends since they're starting to get more freedom from their parents now that they've proven themselves responsible.

"Feels like I haven't seen you in forever."

He smiles, "feels like it's been forever."

"It has. What brought you out here?"

"A little birdie told me you might be maiming one of the techs."

You scoff, "as if."

You both turn to the technician and finding him staring at the two of you in awe. "Holy- Wolfman and Sly Fox are married?"

"Where have you been?" Leonard asks.

"Under a rock apparently."

You snort, covering your mouth. "Alright, we'll talk more later. Get to work before Cyclone comes for you."

"Yes, ma'am."

You two start walking away and head towards the hanger.

You glance at him through your lashes, grateful he put his hat on your head. "You're not gonna believe who's teaching and in his class."

He groans. "Don't tell me, Mav's here."

You nod. "Along with baby Goose."

"Nick's kid is here?"

You nod, pulling him behind you.

You both turn the corner, searching over the hanger for the one person you want him to see.

Pete turns to you and pauses, raising a brow.

You sheepishly smile and pull your husband away from the hanger.

"He looks just like him, don't you think?"

"Mustache and all. Damn."

"What?" You stare at him, watching him get dressed.

"Goose would have loved this."

The corner of your lips tugs upwards. "I know." A wishful sigh slips past your lips. "You'll never guess what I discovered in their class."

"What?" He asks with amusement.

"Don't be a smartass."

"Hey, you married me in spite of it."

"Yes, yes. Whatever. Mav has a mini Maverick."

"Mav produced?"

You scoff, "no but there's a kid just like him."

"That's less fun than him teaching his own kid."

"He's got baby Goose for that."

"True." He closes the locker, "you ready?"

You all but run into his arms, letting his arm rest over your shoulders. "Take me home, honey."

"As long as you'll have me."

How do you think rise donnie would deal with his s/o starting to call him a tsundere as a term of endearment ?. (Cuz he is a tsundere).

Thank u for the ask!! Here's a little something I wrote on how I think it would play out. Hope you enjoy :))

"You know what y/n?" Leo tells you during one of your many reality tv watching sessions. "Ever since you and Donnie started dating, it's made me realize something... he's such a tsundere, don't you think?"

You turn to look at the slider, head tilting in confusion at the term. "What's a tsundere?"

Within seconds Leo's mouth has dropped considerably. "What?" He pauses the tv. "What do you mean you don't know?!"

As he shakes your shoulders, all you can do is awkwardly smile. "Am I supposed to?"

Leo shakes his head. "I really need to get you into more anime..." He sighs, pulling out his phone. "Don't worry, Leon's got it."

He shoves his phone in your face, and you read the text once your eye's adjust. "A tsundere is a character who switches from being tough and cold towards a love interest into being soft and sweet."

You look at Leo, who's wiggling his nonexistent eyebrows. "See? You can't read that and tell me that isn't describing Donnie."

"I mean, I guess you're right." You hum thoughtfully. "I've never thought about it like that."

Leo's considers your agreement a win, and he grins. "Exactly! I know these things.. it's a twin sense, you feel me?"

You nod, always finding humor in the whole "twin sense" thing when they don't even look remotely alike. They still debated about who was the "older twin" to this day. "Sure."

He nudges you. "Just means you're special, y/n."

His words make you smile. It was relieving to hear that Donnie's brothers thought you were good for him. "Heh. Thanks, Leo."

"Anytime."

After your conversation with Leo, you decide to start messing with Donnie a little bit. It starts off harmless, the first time you call him a tsundere, he reacts as expected, extremely confused (and flustered) because how the hell did you know that word?

He suspects its Leo's doing immediately, but you act clueless, skipping off like it was nothing.

Then you do it again, and again, and again. Now, tsundere has been added to the long list of nicknames you have for the soft-shell. It started off as an innocent joke, but honestly, it was very fitting. Besides, you liked the reaction Donnie had every time. You enjoyed catching him by surprise.

Like tonight, as you depart his lab to head home, you whisper into his ear as you kiss his cheek.

"Goodnight, tsundere." You smile when you hear his breath catch, satisfied with yourself as you turn away, light on your feet.

"Y/n, wait."

You look back to see where you left him, sitting in his chair but facing you.

"Yeah?"

"In the past sixty five days you've called me tsundere a total of twenty eight times."

You weren't expecting that. You cross your arms, interested to see where he was going with this. "Oh, so you've been keeping track?"

He blushes, dismissing your words. "That's not the point. The question is why? Why that word, out of all words? I know Leo taught it to you, so don't even try to deflect."

You think about how to answer, before you settle on the perfect response. You laugh to yourself, smiling.

"I mean, it makes sense right?" You approach him, noticing how he looks you up and down, swallowing. What, was Donnie actually feeling shy? "When I first met you, you were all grumpy and closed off."

You're inches away from him now, and just to show the purpose of your next sentence, you put a finger on his plastron, right over the area that covers his heart. "Who knew I would be the one to peel back those layers to reveal my sweet, lovely partner?"

You knew you had succeeded once Donnie's left a stuttering mess. You've only rendered him speechless a few times, but it never got old.

"If it really bothers you, I'll stop. Promise." You add with sincerity. You had a feeling it didn't, but just to make sure, you say it anyways.

"No." He rushes out immediately. "I-It's fine."

You smile fondly at him. "Good. Well, I should go now."

He nods, but not before he gently takes your wrist and pulls you down, capturing your lips in a sweet kiss.

For a moment he rests his forehead on yours. "I.... like the nickname. It's cute."

The two of you part, and you can't help but get in one last tease. "Guess you'll be hearing more of it then."

Donnie rolls his eyes, but his tone is dripping with affection as he turns back around in his chair. "Bye y/n."

"Bye Donnie." You're almost out the door before departing with "I love you."

You linger just long enough to hear him say "I love you too."

Why did I do this? Mainly This fanart and This but also This and This by @badninken inspired me, I never used to care as much for this team beyond a backstory but suddenly I do because their art is beautiful. I definitely enjoy AU Obito more. Also this fanart by @akatsukiarts for Rin's skater look. Courtesy of @skykashi who I discovered them through 💜 probably wouldn't have made this otherwise, or at least would have probably only made Kakashi or Team 7. Also I guess since I did Konan and Pain I'm probably going to end up making every Naruto character I like into cyberpunk version for my save. I can't help it. I like them more than in my pure canon naruto save lol. This is a LOT of CC and took a looong time, but I didn't include sliders or irrelevant items like skin or skin details, only the important items from their outfits or stuff I really liked, so you can make them if you want to or just if you want some of the items.

If there's something I forgot please let me know. Also sorry if I got anything wrong or messed up the links somehow, I feel like I'm going blind from copying and pasting and googling lmao if anything doesn't make sense ask me. I'm reuploading Happytobe's Naruto CC cause all of the links seem broken and I think they have been for a while. It isn't broken, my mistake, they simply have a strange thing that pops up before simsfileshare, I thought it was all broken. I have updated my CC list to include happy to be's links. A/N: This will feature some of the same dialogue from the movies. I do NOT own the dialogue but am merely putting my own adaptation of the movies. :)

"So, what do you think of the competition?"

Goose asks while he does up the buttons on his dress whites.

Maverick stares in the mirror continuing to mess with his hair for the umpteenth time. Seriously, he never cares this much, so why is his stomach in knots over going to the O club?

He sighs and braces himself on the sink. Mav realizes he's probably making a mountain out of a molehill here, but how else is he supposed to take the snide comment Lieutenant pretty boy shot at him after they were dismissed?

"The plaque for the alternates is down in the ladies' room."

Maverick scoffs. There's no way he knew he was checking him out during class, right? It was probably just a challenge. The typical two alpha males butting heads until one of them rolls over, kind of challenge. Well, if that's what pretty boy wants then that's what he'll g-

"Mav! Hey! You listenin' to me?"

He jumps at the sound of Goose's voice and turns to look at him.

"Sorry, I uh…I was just ah…thinkin'."

"You sure you're okay, man? You've been acting weird since class this morning."

Maverick's heart hammers against his chest. Goddammit, why does he have to be so fucking transparent? Maybe he should just wear a sign around his neck that says 'Hello, my name is Pete "Maverick" Mitchell and I've got it bad for a pilot with blonde spiky hair and blue eyes'.

"Yep. I'm fine. Let's go. I'm ready for a beer."

The lively atmosphere of the Officer's Club washes over them as they walk through the wooden doors.

"This is what I call a target-rich environment."

Maverick smiles up at his best friend before taking a look at all the beautifully dressed women. Goose rolls his eyes and slaps him on the shoulder.

"You live your life between your legs, Mav."

"Goose, even you can get laid in a place like this."

Nick chuckles, "I'm tellin' ya, I'd be happy to find a girl who'd talk dirty to me."

They approach the bar and open a tab, taking a seat on the only two open stools in the place. Goose nudges him and nods to a figure standing across the room.

"Mav, you wanna know who the best is?"

He moves his gaze in the direction Nick nodded and nearly chokes on his own saliva when his eyes land on none other than Lieutenant pretty boy.

Okay, he's electing to ignore the fact that his best fucking friend just referred to someone else, other than him, as the best because how in the fuck can someone look so good?!

He isn't even doing anything. He's just standing there wearing his stupid fucking aviators sipping some mystery drink with a girl hanging off his arm like she needs him to help her stand up.

Maverick squeezes the neck of his beer bottle until his knuckles turn white. He's never been the jealous type, but seeing this woman give pretty boy 'fuck me' eyes gives him a bad taste in his mouth.

"That's him. Iceman. That's the way he flies, ice-cold, no mistakes. Just wears you down. You get bored, frustrated, do something stupid, and he's got you."

Mav opens his mouth to respond, but Goose cuts him off, instead turning his attention to someone else.

"Hey, hey, Slider!" He grabs at the taller man's uniform where he has his pinned wings, "I thought you wanted to be a pilot, man. What happened?"

Ron rolls his eyes, "Goose, you're such a dickhead."

Maverick snorts at their back-and-forth banter, bringing his bottle of beer to his lips.

Before he can even think about taking a drink he sees the so-called Iceman stalking straight towards them.

He takes a long gulp of liquid courage and swallows as Ice stops directly in front of him.

"Hey, Mother Goose! How's it goin'?"

Nick shakes his hand, "I'm doin' good, Tom. This is Pete Mitchell. Tom Kazansky."

So, he's finally got a name to put with Lieutenant pretty boy's face. Maverick looks him up and down, takes his outstretched hand in his own, and prays to whatever deity will listen that he gets through this conversation without giving himself away.

"Congratulations on Top Gun."

Fuck, his eyes are even more captivating up close.

Mav smiles softly up at him, "Thank you."

"Sorry to hear about Cougar. He and I were like brothers in flight school. He was a good man."

Pete raises an eyebrow, "still is a good man."

Tom smirks and pops a piece of gum in his mouth, "yeah, that's what I meant."

God, this guy is infuriating. "Thought so."

Ice leans in closer, leaving mere inches between their lips and Maverick feels his stomach flip.

Yep, he's royally fucked.

"Say, you need any help?"

He chews his gum loudly as he waits for Maverick to answer. And while Mav is more than certain anyone looking in their direction can see the panic written all over his face, he still takes a swig of beer to allow himself a moment to ignore all the explicit thoughts he has rattling around in his brain right now.

"With what?"

Tom leans down so they're now eye to eye and grins, "You figured it out yet?"

Fucking Christ.

Maverick feels the panic spread as he tries to make sense of what Ice is talking about. Certainly, he hasn't been that transparent in the last forty-five seconds, but he has had shitty luck before. Nevertheless, he does his best to play it cool and pray his voice doesn't come out as shaky as his hands are.

"What's that?"

"Who's the best pilot."

Even though his heart is beating like a running racehorse, Mav still sees the split second of Tom glancing down at his mouth.

Is…is Iceman flirting with him?

No. No way. He has to be imagining this.

"No, I think I can figure that one out on my own."

Ice chuckles, "I heard that about you. You like to work alone."

Whatever response Pete had at the ready dies on his tongue because the way Tom is looking at him right now makes heat pool low in his belly.

It's almost…possessive.

Slider clears his throat bringing him back to reality. "Mav, you must’ve soloed under a lucky star, huh? I mean, first the MiG, and then you guys slide into Cougar's spot."

Goose scoffs, "We didn't slide into Cougar's spot. It was ours, okay?"

"Yeah, well, some pilots wait their whole career just to see a MiG up close. Guess you guys are both lucky and famous."

Slider takes the shot he's been holding as Ice follows suit and licks his lips, which Maverick definitely doesn't hone in on.

"No, you mean notorious." Tom deadpans. "I'll see you later." He flashes a perfect smile and sets his shot glass down.

Maverick watches him start to walk away and tries not to stare too hard at the way his ass looks in his dress pants. "You can count on it."

After a long night of avoiding questions from a suspicious Goose and barely any sleep, Maverick groans as he takes his first sip of coffee.

"Ugh, I'm never drinking again."

"Yeah, you said that the last time we went out. Nick laughs and jingles his truck keys as Mav winces. "C'mon, we're gonna be late for class."

Even though they were currently in the shade, the hanger barely gave them any relief from the heat.

Jester, their first instructor of the day, is talking about getting intel on enemy aircraft from civilians. At least, that's how Maverick understands it. His head is still currently pounding from the night before though, so he can't be entirely sure what's going on at the moment. He'll just ask Goose later on when he can blink without feeling like he's going to hurl.

"One of the most qualified is our TAGREP, callsign Charlie. She has a Ph.D. in astrophysics, and she's also a civilian contractor, so you do not salute her. But you better listen to her, because the Pentagon listens to her about your proficiency."

Maverick slides on his aviators and rests his head in his hand. Thankfully, his headache is finally starting to subside. It's not that he doesn't care about what Charlie has to say, he honestly just wants to get back in the cockpit.

His ears perk up when he hears her talking about the MiG-28 though. He and Goose are all too familiar with that aircraft.

"However, the MiG-28 does have a problem with its inverted flight tanks. It won't do a negative-G pushover."

Maverick snorts as Goose leans in to whisper to him, "Are you gonna tell her?"

Charlie stops mid-sentence and turns her attention to them, "Excuse me, Lieutenant. Is there something wrong?"

And so Mav proceeds to explain how he and Goose were in a four-G inverted dive in a MiG-28. And even when Ice calls bullshit, he goes on to explain that not only was he in that position, but he also gave the enemy the bird while his RIO snapped a Polaroid.

Class ends a few minutes later when Jester tells them they have a hop to take with a strict hard deck of ten thousand feet.

After staying behind to explain to Charlie that she can just read the details of his foreign relations encounter with the enemy, he heads up the stairs to do his preflight with Goose.

Mav rounds the corner and stops dead in his tracks.

"Maverick."

Fuck! He knows that voice. That authoritative, yet still soft, voice that makes his knees weak. He'd never admit it though. Not out loud at least.

Ice pushes off the cement block he'd been sitting on and is in front of him in two strides.

Jesus… does he have to stand so fucking close?!

"I'm curious," he fiddles with the clasp of his watch until it clicks into place, "who was covering Cougar while you were showboating with this MiG?"

Pete somehow manages to keep his own voice steady, though he's not sure how since Tom's giving him that look again. The one that makes him want to drop to his knees and take what he's given.

He doesn't, of course, because why on earth would Iceman be into him? He's just being cocky. Something he'd be doing right back if his heart would just slow down for once.

"Cougar was doing just fine," he grins.

"Uh-huh."

Normally, Mav would have told Kazansky to shut his fucking mouth, but instead, he walks away because he can't trust himself around Ice.

Not when all he wanted at that moment was to slam him against the nearest wall and shove his tongue down his throat.

Howdy! New to ff14, and was curious about gpose, bc it sounds like it'd be right up my alley if i could learn how to use it 😶

(also ive been lurking in the ff14 tag and you've got some really nice scenes and poses! :D)

First off, welcome to FFXIV and I hope you’re having a great time with it!

Now, Gpose is wonderful, and just using the tool provided in the game is a great way to start taking screenshots. It allows a lot more flexibility than you would first expect from an in-game photo mode, and I do really recommend pushing that to its limits when first starting out. But, if you really wanna get into more dynamic shots, you're gonna have to do some crimes...

Simply put, if you wanna get the most bang for your buck making and posing scenes, you're gonna have to download and install a few add-ons (This is technically against the terms of service, but as long as you’re not announcing it in game, you should be fine).

The basic tools I use for my scenes are as follows:

-FFXIV Quick Launcher: This not only gets you in game quicker, it also lets you install add-ons, which is necessary for Brio and Kitsis

-Anamnesis: My primary posing tool. It’s a third party application that runs in the background and is what actually lets you take control of the rigging on actors and pose them how you see fit, instead of relying on in-game animations. In addition it lets you take further control over the camera and even the time of day and weather! The only issue is that since it runs outside the game it can take up a lot of space on single monitor setups (I have a dual monitor set up so it doesn't bother me).

-Brio: An absolute godsend if you're posing multiple characters. It lets you spawn and customize temporary entities while in Gpose, so you never have to futz with finding enough actors in the world.

-Kitsis: A posing tool that runs in game. Great for single monitor setups, can do a lot of the same things that Anamnesis does, and can even run side by side with it.

There are plenty of guides out there for learning the in and outs of each tool, but I do recommend the tried and true method of just messing with sliders to see what they do. There are also plenty of premade poses out there on the web that you can use (just make sure to give credit where it's due). Sorry if this turned out pretty long, just wanna make sure I’m covering all my bases!

Ok so!! This one might be short bc I do really enjoy his canon design. I made his spikes a bit more rounded than they are in canon because alligator snapping turtles are sharp but not that sharp (I’m aware the show’s style is just generally sharp as well). I also think it suits his personality more, with the spikes being a bit rounded out. He’s big and tough, yes, and he can definitely beat the shit out of people, but with his brothers he’s just a big teddy bear! Clothes wise I was initially going to give him a ripped jersey but decided against it because I wanted to show off the cracks and marks on his shell. He’s a big guy which means he most likely just throws himself (literally) into fights, which would definitely end up with him getting some marks in his shell. I left the x bandages on his chest and added some others on his side, as well as a sticker from Mikey over one of the smaller scratches. I ended up ripping the ends of his bandana as well, more than I think it is in the show, if it is at all. I let him keep the wraps on his feet and hands, and added some sweat bands on his wrists (despite the fact they wouldn’t work that way) to replace the sporty vibe the jersey would’ve given. I also gave him shorts for the same reason. It just gives him a boxer vibe imo. Giving him a tail is the only thing I will never regret because 1. TAIL. 2. long tails are like??? A defining trait of snapping turtles bro. I already explained that his markings aren’t natural, and that they’re sprayed on by Mikey. He probably has to get them redone every once in a while, which means the shape of them might change a bit every time. (The small splatters definitely do) that’s sort of all I can think about to say for Raph? He’s my sweet cheese? My good time boy?

Leo:

Woo! Guy I stole my name from let’s go- his design didn’t change much either, if I’m being honest. Probably changed less than Raph’s. I liked the crescent markings on his eyes instead of the classic slider stripes, I just think they fit his vibe more so I let those be. The crescents on his arms, however, had to go. I know they were probably chosen to be easier for the animators, but I’m not an animator and my boy isn’t a damn tiger!! So racing stripes it is! I left the color alone tho bc I liked the contrast. His gloves also got left alone because I enjoy how dramatically they flare out. He got a scarf because I thought it looked cool but also !! It is kind of reminiscent of the weird shock collar thingy he got in Donnie’s Gifts. Obviously this scarf won’t keep his quips at bay, but at least he’ll be warm while he messes around. He also gets to keep his over the shoulder thing instead of being downgraded to a belt like Mikey, just because his sword is too damn long to fit in a side holster thingy (idk if holster is the right term for the sword one or if it’s exclusively for firearms). I was high key debating giving him a Fanny pack bc I thought it would’ve been funny, but braces *and* a Fanny pack would’ve made me feel like I was trying to make fun of him for some reason so he just gets a slightly bigger side bag. Satchel? Idk. I gave him a few marks as well because out of all four of them, I feel like he gets knocked around the most- mostly because he’s the one running in without a plan. He’s got one on his leg, two (from the same injury) on his left arm, and one across the bridge of where his nose would be. I wasn’t sure if I was going to add the nose one, because I was having trouble thinking of how he would get a cut so deep on his nose to scar but not to affect his eyes, but then I remembered I don’t care for logic when it comes to character design. He’s also got a bit of a torn up shell from roughhousing with Raph and pulling stupid stunts.

Donnie:

Burger boy!! Ok so I am a firm believer in Donnie should get clothing/tech that will actually help him and doesn’t just look cool. Hence the welding gloves and goggles! I also think he would use the bandana around his neck as a mask to cover the bottom half of his face! When he’s not wearing his mask, as you can see, he just keeps the goggles around his neck. I think that the turtles wouldn’t always be wearing their masks, but Donnie always wants his goggles with him, so he just lets em hang there. The tech pad on his arm controls his shells and Shelldon, as well as just being used like any tablet can be used. He usually does things himself, but he has the doc Ock robot arms to help him with smaller tasks like carrying things or holding stuff for him while he works. Also to hold his phone because,,, Gen Z man… anyways actual design wise, I just kept with the patterns he has in the show. I gave him 2012 Donnie’s tooth gap because I enjoy it immensely, and I gave him slightly webbed feet for swimming. He would be the best swimmer out of all of his brothers because of it. Also yeah, he’s got normal people eyebrows now, but the ones you see over his mask are 100% drawn on. Speaking of his mask!!!! I gave him a little Deadpool type bump at the back of it because I wanted to and also because I have never once in my life been able to tie a bandana around my head like that without having a bump. Is this the shortest one? Probably, I literally can’t tell rn 💀 Sorry Donnie I said Leo changed the least but maybe it was you. Or I’m just bad at analyzing my design for him

Mikey:

Ok Mikey now bc he’s last (rip)!! He definitely got the most little details added in, because he was the first one I drew. Also because his initial design already has so much character compared to the others. First off, pattern: FRECKLESSSSS I enjoy him having tiny speckles instead of just big blotches. I just think it gives him more of an asymmetrical look. Same with the stickers on his shell!! I purposely gave him no two shapes the same so it would be a bit more mismatchy. The skull- like previously stated- is a reference to his toddler design, which had a skull on an orange sleeveless hoodie. WHY DOES HE HAVE KNEE PADS AND NO ELBOW PADS. WHAT IS THE POINT OF THEM. So anyways he has elbow pads now. You can’t see them but he has more faces drawn on them. I gave him one sweatband on one wrist and the beaded bracelets on the other, again, for asymmetry. One of the only symmetrical things is probably his spats/socks/shoe thingies. His backpack straps aren’t even even. Speaking of his backpack, he has some pins and patches on there that are 90% gifts from his brothers and 10% ones he found on the ground. His skateboard on the bottom is a drawing he did by himself, and was one of the first pieces he ever did without copying something. Not super intentional, but his shell design sort of looks like a firework going off, which I think matches his personality a whole lot. The tooth he has missing is a permanent tooth and he honestly doesn’t care that it’s missing he thinks he looks cool.

to continue my love of the toyger hair i ported an oblivion port of the hair into fnv since i dun have the knowhow or patience to backport skyrim's nifs into the fo3/fnv era gamebyro engine plus someone made a freckled race (sadly hidden from the nexus as of writing)

unfortunately the preset for the freckled race was not sufficiently cute enough for me, so i decided to crack open the g.e.c.k. n make a freckled asian race

guess more than anything its a hapa race lol dunno where i put the files, so prolly lost to the zone

oh, and the reason why i felt that the lobotomite texture would work for a creepy-cute design is i played a bit (probably for 5 mins before quitting from a trauma loop in DUST) with the playable lobotomite mod and managed to mess with the sliders to make a kinda cute lady. fllatou 4 have toyger will tomboy

also tried making a tired/sad girl instead of a tomboy

pretty proud of her since she conveys the exact vibe i want

fits with the total desperation of FROST though unfortunately by the time i got done taking a handful of screenshots of her i lost interest in playing also yey not using the toyger hairdo for the umpteenth time

got to mess around with the dragons dogma 2 character creator and DAMN it seems pretty fuckin good. let me tell you when I realized not only was the skin color menu diverse but you can also pick the UNDERTONE of your character's skin my mind was blown. I've never seen another game do that. I can actually make a character with my skintone which never happens. I absolutely will not be able to afford the game when it comes out cause I am deeply broke and it's $70 (rip) but when I can pick up a cheap physical copy later I'll be super vibing.

BUT my only complaint from first blush is that you can't give your character a unibrow so I can't make them full cuban like I want. oh and while you can make your character very large I wasn't able to make mine look appropriately fat but maybe if I played around with it more I'd be able to manage it. there are a lot of sliders.

a lot of the time yes. it's one of those things that you have to do a Lot to get the hang of it, and studying other art also helps with it, but i can try giving some pointers perhaps

i went ahead and dug up this tutorial from my main on placing characters into environments that focuses on the coloring aspect, which gives some pretty useful notes in adjusting colors to make them fit into backgrounds. i recommend giving it a look!

as for my process, i tend to usually have an idea of what mood i specifically want for a drawing when i start it and then pick the base colors based on that. here's some 'hog art with different vibes from this year and the base blues i ended up using for each of them:

most of the time i slide the hue to about where i think i want it and then start playing with the saturation and value sliders, and when i think i got something that looks right i lay it down. usually it's not quite right the first time and i need to pick it back later after laying down the other colors and adjust it further, bucket fill the new color in, then adjust it again and so on

it usually takes me a while to get the shade to a point where i think it looks right, and that takes a lot of fiddling with the hue-saturation-value sliders. as a general rule if i want the palettes to be colder i tint them more towards the right side of the color wheel (towards cyan/green/blue/magenta) and more to the left side if i want them to be warmer (red/orange/yellow, and magenta for blues). saturation and value sort of go hand-in-hand when determining the intensity of a color, but generally the higher the value the less you need to saturate it to add color to it. finding a good balance here takes some trial and error

also what i do a lot is adjust the entire base color layer (or all of them if i have multiple, and sometimes i include the shadow/highlight layers as well) with color adjustment features. i think most art programs have a specific tab for these sliders, but in paint tool sai they're found under filters:

i use "hue and saturation" to, well, adjust the hues of the colors towards the direction i want (usually just whether i want them colder/warmer or more intense)

i touch "brightness and contrast" a bit less, but sometimes adjusting here helps me make the colors pop out more, or make the background layers less eye-catching by lowering their contrast or cranking down the color deepen slider

another thing to keep in mind is that shading and highlights will also end up adjusting colors further. here's the tailmon pic i drew a couple days ago, with flats and then base shading (+ some adjusted lineart colors):

the colors already tint towards warm on the left, but the shading and highlights emphasize that even further

also layer effects are your friends! after i got to around this phase in the pic i figured that tailmon wasn't popping out of the background enough and there needed to be more contrast between the two of them, so i threw some light blue/cyan multiply and shade layers on the background, and smudged and erased the color in parts that i wanted to be lighter and added darker shades to parts i wanted darker. also bc i work in a back-asswards kinda way i had already put some additional highlight layers on the character to emphasize the lighting way before i even did the background, but i enabled them again below to show the difference they make (and simulate a sensible artist's workflow lol):

^ the overlay below the layer group was to add some glow to the background as well. quick and dirty lighting stuff!

i think a lot of coloring does end up coming down to practice. mess around with layer effects and multiply and overlay colors on top of your chosen base colors to see how they're tied together, study other people's works and eyedrop colors out of them to see what combinations of hue/saturation/value they're used to achieve the effect, try out new things! the more you do stuff the better you'll figure out the stuff that works and the stuff that doesn't.

I'm very new to digital art and was wondering what sort of process/brushes you use for your Hilda art? I absolutely love your trolls and centaur designs ❤️

aw that’s very kind, thank you!! tbh my art approach is kind of all over the place but I’ll do my best to answer!

first off, I draw in photoshop and use mainly these two brushes -

the 1st is pretty much the standard PS brush and the HB one is what I used for most of the trolls/centaur stuff! generally I pick one of these brushes and use it for both lineart and putting in colour/shadows. (to be honest photoshop somehow got the settings on the HB brush messed up a lil while ago which is why I use it for lineart less now, but it’s still nice for doing shadows bc it has a really pretty soft edge :) )

as for art process, I’ll try to explain with the hilda little mermaid drawing I did recently - explanation thingy under the cut!

so with most of my art I usually start out sketching it on paper first and then move the sketch to my computer - since you’re new to digital you might find it easier to start that way, it helps make things less complicated bc you already have something to start from

so for the drawing in question I started with this which is. A Mess

everything is all over the place and yasha from crit role is hanging out in the middle of it but this is the type of thing I start with! first with the lil thumbnail sketch up in the corner, and then doing the characters in more detail separately (if I know I’m gonna end up moving something to digital I’ll just draw the characters anywhere I can fit them on the page, bc I can worry about fitting them together properly later)

u can honestly skip the thumbnail sketch if u want, but for bigger drawings I find it useful to have something rough to refer back to, so I don’t forget what I’m aiming for overall when I start getting into the details

anyway then I move the paper sketch to digital and arrange things properly and add anything I’ve missed, and depending on how messy it is I do another slightly cleaner sketch overtop -

I’ve learned the hard way that fixing things at the lineart stage is a lot more hassle so I try to make sure everything’s looking as it should in the cleaner sketch - david’s initial sketch looked mostly fine to me so I only redid a couple things and added some details, while I changed a lot of kaisa til I was happier with the pose. I knew the salt lion was gonna end up being mostly hidden so I didn’t worry about refining it

SO next I make a new layer and start drawing the clean lineart over the sketch. I like using coloured lineart these days, so I pick a colour to sketch and do lineart in - literally any colour except black, since photoshop lets you change the hue later (you can go to Image -> Adjustments -> Hue/Saturation and change things as much as you like). I did all the lineart for the characters here in purple, like the sketch, and I made sure to keep all the lineart for different characters separate so I could mess with it individually later. I’ve got a bit of what kaisa’s lineart folder looks like below, and you definitely don’t have to put Everything on a new layer like I did, but I usually keep the eyes, brows and little details like the fin lines and scales separate bc they’re the things I’ll most likely want to adjust later

once I’ve got the lineart done in that one colour, I’ll use the Adjustments-> Hue/Saturation slider to change some parts of it (this is where having things on different layers comes in) to blend in or stand out more, so by the end it looks like it does below. I made some swatches so you can see which parts I changed from the main outline colour:

so I kept the original purple for most of it, but I changed the salt lion’s lines to blue, and kaisa’s scales to a light grey so they’d blend in more, and made her eyebrows much darker so they’d stand out from her hair. (I usually do this step after I’ve started colouring them in, bc it’s easier to see what’s working then and what isn’t, I’m just showing it here so you can see it in isolation). also, I’ll usually set the whole lineart folder to ‘multiply’ so it blends in with the colour layer even more

(tbh you don’t have to do it as complicated as this, everyone has their own approach depending on what they’re going for and it might take some trial/error before you find what works best for you. I just do this bc I’m used to it and don’t mind the extra hassle. pretty colours go brrr :) )

for colouring in, I use the lasso tool to trace over areas of the drawing and the paint bucket to fill them in. I usually put every different coloured area on a new layer so it’s easier to go back and change something if I decide I don’t like the colour. so everything is built up over a number of layers, and I can use the airbrush tool to soften the edges of some areas (like david’s arm fins). for the parts with gradients like their tails, I put down a flat colour layer (like the orange for david), select that area and then make a new layer and put the gradient on with a big airbrush tool. also for stuff from hilda I usually colour-pick straight from a screenshot of the show with the eye-dropper tool, it’s much faster than guessing them

so then we have the flat colours done, and I can show you why I like doing coloured lineart even though it takes longer bc

here’s the lineart all in black vs the final result with the colours. like…it’s fine, there’s nothing wrong with the all black one, but having the colours really helps soften things imo!

I didn’t really do much by shading for this one but to go over it real quick -

if I was just drawing a character on a white background I wouldn’t bother with this step, but here I know this scene is taking place in the dark & underwater, so I selected the characters, made a new layer and filled in a dark green colour overtop on a low opacity & set to Multiply, so the characters get this slight green tinge and look more like they’re in the setting (I did the same with the salt lion but I’m gonna just focus on these two for now)

for the actual shadows I got the same green colour, and on another multiply layer blocked it in, and just played around with the opacity til it looked about right

honestly not my best job at shading lol but it helps give it some depth and put them in the scene! if I hide the colours and lines for a sec you can see that literally all I’ve added over the original colours is this:

and if I add the basic colours of the background in, you can see how much it helps compared to the flat colours I started with -

they look so much more like they’re in the scene!

anddd after doing the same thing to the salt lion (which is just the same shading process but more layers and darker) and adding the rest of the background that’s it!!

don’t worry they’ll be fine lol

hello hello. i dont know if you're into pokemon but I started playing Violet the other day and I tend to nickname my pokemon after whatever my current hyperfixation is so ofc right now they're getting mysme nicknames (right now my charcadet is (suit) Saeran (gonna evolve into ceruledge), my kirlia is Ray (gonna evolve into gardevior). i plan to catch a sneasel/weavile for unknown (totally didnt get the idea from an art i saw). Trying to pick something for saeyoung but nothing has felt right yet. an electric type? fire? maybe a dog pokemon bc with his loved ones saeyoung is both an excited puppy AND a guard dog)

ANYWAY so I started wondering about everyone's favorite twins and pokemon

What kind of pokemon do you think saeyoung and the various saerans would have? what would they be if they WERE pokemon? in a canon setting would they play pokemon?

i can see saeyoung with fire/steel/electric types, especially robot- or machine-like pokemon. ray/ge saeran with grass types is obvious, but I can also see him with fairy types. theyre deceptively cute but can mess you up. suit and unknown scream dark type teams. maybe some poison types for unknown. like i think he'd have team rocket/[insert region team] grunt-esque pokemon.

saeyoung and all of the saeran's have at least one pokemon (probably their first/partner) that they found abandoned and in bad shape that they took in and it decided to stay with them after it recovered.

maybe they have an espeon (saeyoung) and an umbreon (saeran) to complement their "we're opposites but in a balanced and complimentary way" vibe.

and also bc i must inflict this on all my faves who are convinced they're bad and unlovable: at least one pokemon on their team evolves with high friendship/affection. even better if for some reason he doesn't know what causes that pokemon to evolve and he maybe cries a little when he finds out. what do you mean he's LOVED??

ANYWAY sorry for the really long ramble haha. this was supposed to be a short ask but it kinda got away from me 😅 anyway, i hope you have a good day!! i love your writing and character analyses!!

Oh, you've come to the right person today, because I spend my time stressing out over what Pokemon I would use on their teams if I ever wrote a story for it. I've done this a few times before but I can never really make my mind up so I wouldn't say that this is a concrete idea. So, here is a slider I would use for Ray > Suit Saeran > GE Saeran. I think some of it is self-explanatory. I suggest dark, ghost, and grass if anything.

Phantump for a Ray who feels lost and dead to the world. Polteageist for his desire to feel like a prince in his haunted castle. Budew for a boy who can't be fully blossomed just yet... but, he's so close to that chance. Suit Saeran would only use one Pokemon in my mind and it's Banette. A Pokemon that happens to be seeking revenge in the same way he is. It might seem like a major stretch but mega evolution seems incredibly possible in this situation.

Shaymin is the Pokemon of gratitude and I feel like it would appear in the garden when he is in the process of thanking you for being there with him as he finally freed himself from his heavy chains. He and Saeyoung do have a set of Eevee together! I feel like they need to have a matched set, and his Eevee has been tucked away in their pokeball for a while until he realized the error of his ways.

Whereas, Saeyoung is always really tough to work with because there's so many different Pokemon that would work for him symbolically. Sure, we can pick some joke options if we want to do so, but I'm trying to imagine what would work for his work in the agency. Did they give him a team or is it a team he's caught himself?

In the end I just decided to give him a team that he crafted. He deserves to have a cat that shoots fireballs from its mouth. Of course, I don't imagine that'll end well for him since the cat likely gives him a free haircut everyday with burnt edges. Rotom is the given. Everybody who's ever drawn him with the Pokemon always gives him Rotom. It's right. Three heads are better than one! Magneton helps to hack and unlock problems!

His Eevee doesn't battle. It's kept safe in his bunker, or it's Pokeball. He hates to make Eevee sad about not seeing its own twin or Saeran. Magearna makes sense to me, because what is more in character for him than to discover this mechanical Pokemon and help bring it back to life? Minior for the stars! It's either that or Clefairy. I couldn't make up my mind but in the end I decided on stars.

Which brings me to Unknown and SE Saeran. Yeah, SE Saeran will receive that Megearna as a gift from his brother. His Porygon-Z likely was released after Mint Eye was taken down, or it's still in the box for now since that was likely his main partner for being able to hack into the RFA. Mimikyu and Banette are self-explanatory. Budew would be a new addition in his time spent trying to enjoy the clouds and grass! Milcery is a surprise, though! I have a feeling that is a companion he made one afternoon that tried to sample his ice cream and now he's got a friend that helps him craft his own ice cream.

Only made it to the second trial, but I am done for today and making soup. I seriously need it. No spoilers.

The writing so far is...okay? Like genuinely Amy feels so much more alive than base game. Knuckles is actually written quite well, Tails is there, I actually like the few lines Sage has gotten and Sonic even has a couple I like! I haven't done the side stories yet. For ease of recording, I'd like to have the island mapped so I can see where they all are and hit 'em in a row, but some of these challenges require other characters and I've only got Sonic right now.

The music is also pretty nice, Knuckles' music is especially good.

Now the bad...actually playing. All the characters control AWFUL. They're so slippery, it makes Heroes look tight. You legit let go of the control stick and it takes a full 2 seconds for them to slow to a stop. I've tried messing with sliders and nothing seems to affect this.

Amy has been the most tolerable because her hover can catch you. Tails is alright and Knuckles....Knuckles... I expected him to control similar to how he does in SA1/SA2, but this is wrong. To get his glide, it's 3 times you have to hit the A button and hold it on the last press, in the same way you'd drop dash. It feels so weird and his glide control shares the same slippiness as ground control. You wouldn't think gliding around a square pillar would be hard, but The End was easier than this.

Genuinely if there is SOMETHING that fixes this, let me know because it's ruining my experience. I started having fun again as soon as I got Sonic back and I don't want the game to take him from me again.

BUT Tails and Knuckles share a problem Amy doesn't have: their special moves have warmup animations. Meaning when you go to fly with Tails, he doesn't just go up like in SA1 or the classic games, he instead stays still for a moment THEN flies up. Knuckles has to do a twirl before he glides. It's so clunky and shocking after Amy just...floats. No warmup animation it just happens. Like y'all had SA1 and SA2 to build off and this is how you did it?

Also cyberspace has a few more interesting things going on? But being cyberspace I really can't bring myself to care about it.

I think the new stuff and the insane island challenges are fun, but only as Sonic. I just can't stand controlling the other characters.

Sam's Chats to the Void: TMNT 2014

Welcome back to one of my chats with the void. This one has sat in my head as part of a larger chat, but it's such a big topic i thought I would post this by itself. This is a long one, and is practically an opinion piece. Feel free to have your own opinion, and tell me why I'm wrong. Also I liked the movie, i just feel like it could've been better. I'm being really harsh in this because i enjoyed it enough to care about it. anyways here's the chat.

I enjoyed the live action 2014 TMNT movie, but… What happened in it? I actually asked myself what happened when the credits rolled. It started really slowly like it was trying to hide the fact we were watching a TMNT movie, and then everything happened all at once.

April got fired for being into conspiracy theories, 3 of the turtles were taken, and drained of their blood, there was a chase scene, and then they fought the shredder, and saved New York.

I got so excited when Raph was the only one not taken, because that would mean the movie was Raph centric, but then nothing happens with Raph. I thought it would be cool if Raph had to find a way to keep his brothers safe, while saving New York. I thought he would go save his brothers, they would be weak from the blood loss (Maybe one of them can’t even stay awake), and Raph would be forced to navigate how to save New York without fighting, because he wouldn't be able to take the Shredder on by himself. It seemed to be more of a character driven story than a plot driven one. Alas I was wrong because some really bad movie medicine later and all of the turtles are fine, and they go beat the shredder.

(Also the turtles are called box turtles, but you can see before they mutated they were very clearly red eared sliders. Usually calling an animal by the wrong species name would be fine, but red eared sliders are very identifiable, and it felt like when you watch a movie and someone plays the piano obviously wrong. Like you don't have to know the piano to know that you have to press the keys to make a sound. Side rant over.)

I think it could've been a really good movie, but they spent their time muddling up their story. Was it about beating the shredder? Raph? April? I don’t know because they tried to tell every story.

If it was supposed to be an April story, April should've had more weight in the narrative. If it was a Raph story he should have learned something. If it was a beat the Shredder story they should've followed through on the idea of “If this tower goes down New York is screwed.” The tower fell, and that could've been when the plot really got started, but they ignored the reason why they didn't want the tower to fall.

Fixing 2014 TMNT:

I don't know if I’ll write this or not, but if I were to try, and fix this story, and tell every story it was trying to tell I would split it into parts.

Part 1: April O’neil. This mostly stays the same. April is looking for a big story, gets called crazy, gets fired from her job for getting into conspiracies etc. She gets proof of the turtles, and who they are, and tells a bad guy. Give her a reason to tell the evil scientist guy, like, she thinks the turtles need to be cured, something that puts her against the turtles (that comes from her not the bad guy). Evil guy tells her to carry a tracker on her, and the next time she sees the turtles she can alert them to her position. Kinda like Karai in 2012. She gets there, realises she messed up, and the lair is destroyed.

Part 2: Raph, and April. Some things change here, but not a lot. Raph is furious at April since she gave away their location, and is the reason his brothers got taken. He is right to be mad, but because he is mad he is blind to the fact he needs help to save his brothers. Raph starts tracking down his brothers alone, but because it’s winter he can't make the journey to the mansion. During this time April is trying to find out how she can fix this, and with some advice from the camera guy she decides to follow Raph. Camera offers his car, and they're off to the mansion where they pick up Raph on the way. Raph, when he’s found, knows he can't get there with the snow, and has cooled off enough to tentatively accept April’s help. When he arrives it again is mostly the same, but the adrenaline thing is gone. Instead he gets there, and his brothers are getting weaker, but currently okay, maybe Mikey isn't doing too well because he’s smaller. Upon his brother’s rescue they can fight, but they are running on their own adrenaline that wears off when they escape.

Part 3: Stop the Shredder. The chase scene is either extremely short, or scrapped completely, but on the way Raph sees his brother's conditions. While he has his brothers back, he still has to step up, and deal with the Shredder alone. This is where major changes would happen. Instead of a big battle between the shredder, and the turtles on the roof, Raph has to figure out how to save New York without confronting the shredder. At this point the audience has seen how Raph can be impulsive, so they will be curious how he will come out on top. The answer, get his brothers to a safe place, and using some phones he keeps them safe while being able to get help from them. He needs help figuring out how to get to the top, and Leo gives him a plan. He needs to disarm the bomb, and Donnie walks him through it. He can’t do it alone, he needs his brothers. April still gets to do the shoot off thing with the evil scientist guy. Raph manages to get the bomb disarmed, but that's when the Shredder finds him. The phone breaks, he loses the connection with his brothers, and it's time for the finale.

Part 4: The finale. The shredder's plan could still work if he takes down the tower with the poison container attached to the side. Raph fights as hard as he can, but he can't do it. He is losing, and after some cool battle choreography Raph is thrown off the building but caught by his brothers who were given just enough time to get to Raph after the call was dropped. Raph thinks he failed, and we watch the shredder take down the tower, and…. Nothing happens. April in the background of the Shredder vs Raph fight was climbing up the tower, and taking the poison off. She was able to do this, and sneak away without the shredder’s notice because Raph held on for so long. End film

Make 2 movies with 2 parts each, and you get a major battle to end each movie and a COHESIVE STORY. You can tell the first movie is about April, and Raph. The second one would be building off the first one, and be about Raph, and stopping the shredder.

I didn't change a lot (except the end), I just made everything hold weight in the story.

Obviously it would be hard to sell a company on a movie that depends on another movie, and MANY things would have to change to make this story work. BUT it doesn't change my point.

A story get's muddled the more you try to do, and if you try to do too much nothing happens. This is part of a bigger conversation with the void about what makes a good story, and how I can apply it to my own story telling.

I've found I need a goal for my story. My goal can be to make someone think, or it can be to have fun writing it. I try to limit myself to 1 or 2 goals that are extrememly clear to ensure my story doesnt get muddled.

(Ex: My goals for 'The story of future boy' are to (spoilers) give a realistic depiction of toxic friend relationships, and show why a kid should never fear their life in a school. Both of these are heavily based on my own personal experiences. Meanwhile in 'Winter for Cold Blooded Turtles' my goal was to write something fluffy that I could make small character mistakes in, and not have them matter. This was because i had a massive migraine, and I didn't have the ability to think too hard, but i wanted to write.)

I'm cutting this off here since this is too big a topic for one post. Expect more about story telling as time goes on though, because I have so much to say on this.

Without thinking, he threw open the door and saw you perched on the arm old abandoned chair. You lost in your pleasure, panting as you rock yourself against the arm. Was it just me or is corran’s dragon for rathian looking?? Also how did you design Avengret in game?? Cause I see a bunch of people make screenshots for their stuff and I’m here going ‘???? How???’

Short answer: Patience and a little Crime.

Longer Answer: Go under the cut for explanations, like Avengret's body double, Corran's transformed model, and How Lyn (subjects you all to her) Screenshots.

The model I used for Avengret is simply a red dragon at Anyx Trine named Nehsk Fan, using careful Gpose angles, camera zoom, filters, lighting, time of day, and the same Gshade filter I've been using for these headers for consistency (Teddy Gpose for the curious). So actually fairly simple in the manner of "anyone can actually do this and get similar results" (aside from the Gshade).

For Corran's look in "Scale" I used CMTools, which takes in game assets and allows one to manipulate them, as well as time and weather. It's how one can use carbuncles, chocobos, and/or most housing retainers to take the form of NPCs, and create custom poses while dressing up in whatever existing clothing items one wants.

Which is how I got this shot with all 4 of my OCs in one room; one I am actually playing, another is a carbuncle, and 2 others are Dark's housing servants, after saving each of my ladies' appearances in the tool. This is also how I get so many shippy shots of Aeryn with Thancred; she's just hanging out somewhere with a carbuncle (while I curse how various joints work as I mess with sliders).

For "Scale" I actually went with the monster menu and stood Dark Autumn somewhere while overwriting her appearance with Rathalos. Anyone else wandering by just saw my femroe idling on a hill, as the change is only visible on my own screen. Then back to the game's Gpose, using zoom, angles, drop lighting, filters, to take multiple shots until I found one I was happy with; I have 7 others in this case that I took and edited but didn't use.

For post-work, I mostly use Picasa 3, a simple photo editor discontinued about 10 years ago but still can be found in places online. I don't do Photoshop, so a simple tool that lets me one click color corrections, lighting balance, and various filters and minor adjustments, as well as cropping, lettering, angling/straightening the pic, works for me.

Image below are just the examples of options I can play with in Picasa 3, many of them adjustable in various ways:

I mostly use Crop, Straighten, I'm Feeling Lucky, Auto Contrast, Auto Color, the Fill Lights/Highlights/Shadows/Color Temp menu, and play around with what filters seem to work for the shot I want. I use "Tint" with the default light blue to "cool down" many of Aeryn's screenshots so she's not super red, depending on what other lighting and colors are happening in the picture. Saturation is good for upping or lowering saturation, especially when using the Bright 4 filter in Gpose.

Knowing how to compose a picture using camera angles, lighting, color, etc, with the in game tools is the most important part; all the extra tools won't do a darn thing to make a good screenshot if you don't learn the basics. Basic photography/art rules apply! The extra tools just make some things easier. I don't think I'm that good at it (I have little sense of composition, lighting, or color; all my best stuff is happy accident!) and I still have a lot to learn, and it does take time and practice. As well as lots of patience and taking dozens of shots to only then end up posting 1 or 2.

My dear friend @healerstail is fantastic at taking screenshots (and photography in general) and has mostly only used basic Gpose and Gshade, only the occasional mod and just recently picked up CMTools. Mostly it's just knowing how to set up the default emotes, timing, and good angles. His composition is amazing. Likewise, @gunbun is very good at lighting and composition, and has been using the new posing tool, Anamnesis (CMT's successor) to excellent affect. She'll tell you to mind your drop lights and camera angles, too

Extra tools only work on PC, so console users have to use only Gpose and defaults, though some do post-work in Photoshop. An excellent example of detailed post-work is @kukurubean's edits.

NOTE: Remember that while Gshade is fine as it's just a filter overlay (and one can get the same results from most graphic card interfaces these days), mods are against the SquareEnix TOS so use your extra tools responsibly; remove the default watermark from screenshots, do not tag official accounts, do not talk about mods in game, put any lewds on locked/private/behind cuts. Do not tease or harass other players with either cosmetic or combat mods.

The FFXIV devs are willing to turn a blind eye and allow player creativity so long as extra tools are used responsibly, not to affect gameplay or bother other players. Yoshida flat out hates DPS meters as people don't tend to use them for personal growth; we have Sky Sea Stone and the metric is "did the boss die and everyone have fun?" Also he has gone on a PLL before and told people to stop lewding younger characters using game assets for legal reasons--right after talking about changing code to break a combat mod used during the TEA world first race (as well as changing how combat markers work in general), making the implications clear.
