right okay for the time being im giving up on incorporating the aura to boosting because the methods i know how to use are getting me nowhere and the methods that could be helpful are walled behind me having an understanding of C# which i do not have and i don't exactly want to waltz into the hedgemodding discord to look for someone who could do it for me either because this is such a niche fucking mod to begin with. will this bother me? oh yeah immensely. but there really isn't much i can do about things myself atm

yeagh. yup. this is the best i can do with the armature thing when it comes to scaling things up. i did come up with a weird alternative method that could be like, marginally better??

it's the same as above except the "auramesh" is moved back slightly to create a kind of "afterimage" thing, it might work a bit better even if it's not exactly what i want from it?? of course the problem with both of these is that the extra mesh effectively doubles the tri count of the model and hinges on me being able to put in the modified skeleton without it causing problems. the mesh thing i can probably fix when i model silver by keeping it in mind during the process though
guess i just have to slap this shit in and hope for the best idk

grr i tried the trick of including the aurabody mesh in the base model and using a bone to scale it up to make it visible and it kinda works but not really? i need the bone to deform the mesh because that's kind of the point of the whole thing, but i can't have it deform it Too much or it starts messing with the other bones. it works when the vertex group value is a whopping 0.01 but at that point i need to scale the bone such ridiculous amounts that it starts getting inconvenient. if i want the aurabody in animations outside of the cyloop im going to have to figure out something else i suppose

hm. i have a Really scuffed idea for how i could maybe make an air boost aura work. i could put an aura model Inside the base model, and somehow tie its scale to a custom bone that mostly doesn't do anything, except for the boost animations where it scales up enough to reveal the aura model. im not sure if i could actually make it work though this is very much a theory, and i feel like something like this would not work in practice, but it might be worth fucking around with anyway bc if it works it'd be a very simple way of adding an aura model to any animation i want it to be included in

okay fun results from the devtools: silver-esque physics are doable but probably need a Lot of tweaking to satisfy me, which is hard because there are so many parameters for everything like look at this list just for the airboost

that's a lot of stuff to fuck with, and a lot of these things aren't very easy to test for or i have a hard time noticing changes. like i tried to make sonic fall slower but i might've been fucking with the wrong parameters because wowie i could not figure out if he was any floatier than before i fucked around
i did however fuck with the air boost and got it to a point where it allowed you to hover around for about 5 seconds or so, with gravity gently kicking in towards the end of that duration. i also made it steer-able which isn't a thing in vanilla frontiers, it's a bit. goofy, but i think that could be fixable if i swap the animation to a more hover-y one. i'd love to incorporate an aura to the air boost too but im not sure how i'd go about that one, if it's even doable. perhaps it could be possible to somehow have some effect files to point to the action but ??? how'st've. also i think i made sonic slower overall which is vital to me for a playable silver, his jump is higher and floatier and double jump gives him more air as well, and the wall-running might also be slower with my numbers. maybe. i need to test it more
like overall this feels doable to me, but im going to have to dedicate a good amount of time for tweaking the finer details of this stuff. and i might want to look around and see if people have figured out some finer details about the effect files and if i could somehow add them to actions that didn't previously have them because despite everything a effect-less airboost Will bother me no matter how nicely it might play

ok bad news about the devtools: they can't save the changes you make as of the current version. they're also intimidating as shit to use like i tried to change a parameter and the game decided i was playing as amy on base game ouranos which was one hell of a jumpscare ngl
