Of course, I can talk more about Felix! I love my little rockstar, Bard. Here are some facts about Felix:

Felix is a rockstar in the making when he is transported to Camelot after Esmerée. He joins the core group in book 3, "A Lady's Vision" (Season 3 of Merlin), after begging the old man who sent Esmerée away to show him where she was. He got more than he bargained for.

The first person Felix meets is Gwaine, and later he is reunited with Esmerée after she, Arthur, and Merlin stop for a drink. Esmerée and Felix's reunion is chaotic, with lots of swearing, hugging, and AC/DC.

Felix's first impression of Morgana is her isolation from Uther and Arthur. When he plays for the royal family as their entertainer, he always chooses modern songs that speak to her.

Felix is the first to fall for Morgana, with Morgana more hesitant to show her feelings. Ultimately, they are a much softer couple compared to Esmerée and Merlin, with small gestures and words of affirmation.

Morgana does not turn evil in this version of BBC Merlin, and it's all because of his influence and Esmerée's willingness to reach out and be her guide. Felix, Esmerée, and Morgana are meant to parallel Arthur, Gwen, and Merlin.

Hi I really like your appreciation for Theon and I see you ship sansa x theon and I would like to ask you if you really think there is some kind of foreshadowing between these two characters (and what would that foreshadowing be) or just ship them for fun because I am really starting to like theon x sansa and I would like to know is it possible that this happens in the books 😭

Thank you so much for the question anon! You are not bothering me at all! I’m just so sorry it takes me forever to respond! Well, the short answer to your question is that yes, I ship them both in the show and in the books. Basically all the shipping I do is for fun. To me, it really doesn’t matter if it happens in canon or not. But I wouldn’t be opposed to it certainly! And yes, although I think the chance of it actually happening is incredibly slim, there are definitely interesting similarities and parallels in book canon that could build to a future ship in my opinion.

This got long, so the rest is under the cut:

One thing I like so much about both show Theonsa and book Theonsa is how incredibly DIFFERENT they are and yet their core, I think, is the same. I saw the show before I read the books and even though I feel like the show fumbled the potential of Theonsa in many ways (and I’m not even talking about romantically- but just the potential exploration of their characters, their abuse narratives, and their parallels.) I absolutely loved their dynamic so much that you will have to tear show Theonsa from my cold dead heart because I will never stop shipping it. In fact, I will probably write a defense of show Theonsa that literally no one asked for at some point, but getting back to your actual question: I do think that show Theonsa succeeds, in spite of the chaotic writing around it, because of Theon and Sansa’s personality similarities and narrative parallels in the books (and also because of Alfie and Sophie’s amazing acting, of course!)

I do think there are definitely seeds for a possible ship planted in the books. This mostly comes from Theon’s POV chapters where he mentions wanting to marry Sansa when he was a boy:

He remembered a time when he had thought that Lord Eddard Stark might marry him to Sansa and claim him for a son, but that had only been a child's fancy.

~A Dance with Dragons, Reek I

His statement is indicative of his deep, deep desire to find belonging as opposed to actual romantic feelings towards Sansa- especially since they were both children at the time and she is much younger than he is. I think he saw marrying her as a way of truly becoming Ned’s son and part of the family. Now from Sansa’s perspective, she definitely doesn’t want to be loved for her Stark name. She wants to be loved for herself. This is shown both in the hopeful way she talks about Willas Tyrell and in the mournful way she thinks about her Aunt Lysa arranging her marriage to Sweetrobin:

She wanted to look beautiful for Willas Tyrell. Even if Dontos was right, and it is Winterfell he wants and not me, he still may come to love me for myself.

And then, unlike Theon, who mentions Sansa a number of times in his POV, she only mentions him once- and that is to tell Tyrion that he killed Bran. So I must admit that’s not very compelling when it comes to foreshadowing a ship lol.

However, I don’t think the way they thought of each other as children really matters that much for a potential future ship, because what would bond them together are the experiences that they have had since they last saw each other. And I do think that if their paths should cross again, the reunion would be incredibly interesting based on what they have both been through. Hopefully Sansa will learn the truth about Bran and Rickon and also find out that Theon saved Jeyne Poole- her “truest friend”- and that he actually became the kind of hero that both she and Jeyne use to dream about. Sansa has been forced to see that “life is not a song,” and “in life, the monsters win,” yet she is also still desperate to believe that the songs are still true:

There are gods, she told herself, and there are true knights too. All the stories can't be lies.

And what Theon did for Jeyne is truly worthy of a song. So if Sansa meets him again, she may feel kindly toward him based on what he did for her friend. And if they spent any time together, I do believe that they could form a strong bond. Especially since they have been through such similar situations.

I find the idea of their parallel hostage narratives particularly compelling. Especially the idea of them both being seen as traitors to their families and to their captors. Sansa’s hostage arc is an interesting juxtaposition to Theon’s because, as a member of the Stark family, hers is generally seen as a true hostage situation- whereas the Stark POV chapters tended to “gentle” the idea of Theon as a hostage. Calling him a “ward” instead. This coupled with Theon’s own complex feelings towards the Starks often lead readers to push the narrative that he is an “adopted brother” to the Stark family instead of a hostage, erasing his trauma in order to paint the protagonist Stark family in the best light. It is incredibly interesting to have Sansa’s hostage arc occur in the same book that Theon’s POV begins to challenge the Stark narrative about his own situation. But it is also interesting to view Sansa’s hostage arc through the lens of the patriarchal society in which they live. Because, there is a very fine line between arranged marriages and hostages. Especially in a society where peace and alliances are formed through the offering of girls’ and womens’ bodies in marriage- much like a hostage, they are putting their bodies on the line to keep the peace or to forge an alliance. Theon and Sansa’s identity and abuse narratives are also extremely similar. As soon as their hostage narratives end- when their identities have already been incredibly shaken from that experience- they are thrust into a situation where they are forced to take new identities- Theon with Reek and Sansa with Alayne.

I also think they are both building toward a “becoming their own hero” narrative. Theon has already done this when he realized even though he kept saying, “there are no heroes here,” he had to become the hero himself and save Jeyne. And through saving Jeyne, he saves himself. And I think that Sansa, who has been seeking “a true knight” and hero throughout her own arc, will come to the same conclusion based on the Ghost of High Heart’s prophecy, “And later, I dreamt that maid again, slaying a savage giant in a castle built of snow.”

I do think at the very least they could establish a significant bond based on their similar journeys. Here are some posts that highlight those: one, two. I also think that Sansa and Theon’s personalities are very compatible both pre canon and post canon. The way they describe things in their POV are incredibly similar: one, two (who can ever forget worm lips?), three, four, five. I mean, both Theon and Sansa have a similar way of looking at the world in the beginning of the novels. With both of them, I found myself stopping during their POV chapters often to be like- Did they really just SAY/THINK that? lmao. But they are also both growing beyond the views they’ve internalized from living in a patriarchal feudalistic society in ways that are very interesting to see.

So I just rambled forever and I feel like I still didn’t express all that I think and feel about this ship! lol. I also want to say that I also ship them as purely friends just as much as I do a potential romantic relationship. I would just love for them to have some future interaction in the books. I am not sure if it will happen but I would absolutely love it if it did!

PlanityPlan: Okay, so we wanna get down what Mattie, Lulu and Dolly are like, that’s the main point

PlanityPlan: but then we wanna pinpoint the time of this reunion for their storyline together, so we can then say what Jay is up to, Beckett not really ‘cos he’s a child but we could also say what we wanna do with you eventually here because we are planning to use him but yes, kind of unrelated but not

PlanityPlan: So it’s like, individual story, what they’re like, the lives they’re living, and then the storyline we’ll do with them together

PlanityPlan: OKAY so Mattie doing an accelerated 2-year Maths and Computer Science degree at Greenwich (57, 58) and then her PGCE which takes a year and in this year you do 2 school placements, 2nd placement at the girl's new school after gay teacher drama in Surval, so this 2nd meeting after first failed attempt at contact, in 59

Junie B Jones: The school I found for the twins is called Surval Montreux in Montreux Switzerland and they’d have been going there from age 12 (and leaving at 19) it’s obviously an international school but there’s a heavy focus on French in lessons as obviously because English is usually a 2nd language, but don’t even worry ladies cos there is only a maximum of 10 girls (cos it’s only gals) in your classes and 60 in the entire school

Junie B Jones: worth noting the finishing school bit from 17-19 cos your mother would love that for you and you can share a room no problem as it’s usually 2 or 3 anyways

PlanityPlan: it’s a cliche with posh schools for a reason, the bond is closer by the fact there’s not 30 kids in a classroom, there’s more opportunity for it to happen because you have actual relationships with all your teachers, whereas in normal schools they barely know your name lol

Junie B Jones: gross but necessary question being how long do you see the relationship spanning in secret before the big reveal

PlanityPlan: it should probably be somewhere between enough that it’s an actual thing that happened and not like, it happened once, like the teacher probably thinks they’re gonna be together if she doesn’t go to jail lol, but not so long that it is like, how’d you not know

PlanityPlan: it’ll be fun to like, play out, see how long we feasibly could

PlanityPlan: and if Lulu finds out before EVERYONE finds out, then she has to decide what to do with this info for a bit too, which would also be good

immediately ??? get rid of the tadpole shdjsjdk. that’s her biggest concern atm. she’s chaotic good so she wouldn’t do anything extremely monstrous for it (like betray any of her companions, or a hurt a kid, or anything), but yeah, she’d kill and sacrifice to get rid of it. she wants that shit gone !!!

The Untamed | Chen Qing Ling | Mo Dao Zu Shi

I am officially finished with all fifty episodes of the live-action drama version of Mo Dao Zu Shi and having finished it, I now immediately want to experience the story all over again. There were twists (some I accidentally spoiled myself over the course of my first viewing and others that stayed surprises) that will definitely affect the way I feel when rewatching, and I suspect the emotional character and relationship work will be even more impressive on a rewatch. …also, I’m gonna watch it on viki.com next time instead of the Tencent youtube channel, because I hear that viki has better (less awkward?) translations.

Non-spoilery summary: Chaotic bisexual disaster dies in the first five minutes of the show but then the story really begins when he gets resurrected years later. It’s a love story amidst a backdrop of magic and politics and family and mystery. The love story itself is one of my favorite kinds — between two people who share a similar moral foundation but express it in very different ways. The love story is… technically (?) subtext due to very real censorship concerns but, um. It’s more than emotionally satisfying. It’s epic and tender and funny and sweet and heartbreaking and ultimately rewarding. I feel emotionally healed by this story in ways that I really needed.

Vaguely spoilery warning: There is a flashback that literally lasts just about thirty episodes (this is not a typo). So, if you feel like that might be confusing or strange for your viewing experience, start at episode three. When you get to the part mentioned at the start of the other summary, go watch the first two episodes. I actually went back and rewatched the first two episodes about halfway through the flashback episodes and it was already a whole new experience at that point. I imagine it will be even more so when I rewatch again now having seen the whole show.

Spoilery glee under the read more (this is all specific to the live-action drama, as I haven’t read the original or watched the other version yet).

An Incomplete List of Things I Loved:

The love story, of course. I was very impressed with how honest and emotional and deep it was. The heartbreak we see Lan Zhan suffer during Wei Ying’s downward spiral and then his death brought me to tears on multiple occasions. But the story also made me smile and cover my mouth with my hands because I was giggling over how sweet it all was. It’s a love story with so many dimensions — a schoolboy crush, a growing admiration, deep fear and concern, heartbreak, and then the incredible softness and joy of getting back a love feared lost forever.

Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian. Wow. Honestly, he’s gonna end up on my list of favorite fictional characters ever, I feel like. Seeing his journey was heartbreaking and then heart-healing. Redemptive death is a subject that I am personally not as interested in exploring, so having this story begin at the death and then BRING HIM BACK to actually deal with everything that his choices created make it a very compelling story for me. And one that dealt with trauma and revenge and morality in complex ways.

Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji. What is this literal angel from the heavens we have been gifted with here. Just. He is. so wonderful. And he gets some great character development and I’m very impressed with the tiny expressions that say so much. Joking aside, he’s not perfect, and that’s part of why he’s such a great character. He has his public face that covers up his private feelings, and his public face is stone (one of the Jades of Lan) but he has so much intense emotion whirring around underneath. He’s incredibly controlled, which is both good and bad. He grows in reaction to adversity, and we also see how deeply his grief has marked him in the future. Lan Zhan after Wei Ying’s resurrection is so incredibly soft with Wei Ying pretty much at all times? He’s gotten the most amazing gift in the world, after all, and he is gonna fucking treasure it. And so much of his stoicism comes from having a difficult time finding the right words, not from any kind of arrogance on his part.

The family relationships, both good and bad. The brothers Lan. The three Jiangs. The Nie brothers. THE WEN SIBS (my heart, please take it). The destructive fallout that Jin Guangshan caused by being a cheating dickhole.

Going back to WWX for a moment (I Really Love Him) — specifically the exploration of trauma and how it has the potential to create horrible people and how to avoid that. Because there are a lot of similarities between WWX and several antagonists — all of whom put on a slightly different version of false face to distract from the complexities underneath. Xue Yang and Jin Guangyao aren’t born into privilege, they fight to become more than what they were born to be. The question of revenge and what we owe to the people who lift us up — another good example is not the main Wen villains but Wen Zhuliu, whose morality WWX directly confronts and challenges. When Wen Zhuliu says he kills in order to honor the promotion/trust given to him by the Wens, WWX points out that he’s sacrificing other people for his honor. And this is the biggest difference, of course, between WWX and the antagonists — WWX also ‘owes’ the Jiangs for taking him in, but he doesn’t murder innocent people for that, instead he does things like sacrificing his golden core. WWX has a sense of perspective, not taking fifty lives in exchange for a crushed finger like Xue Yang does. And he doesn’t murder other people to cover up his mistakes like Jin Guangyao does. One of the heartbreaking things about WWX after his time in the burial mounds is how clearly traumatized he is, yet how much he tries to cover up that trauma by playacting as the Wei Ying that he used to be. The smile that doesn’t quite reach his eyes anymore. Flinching away from Nie Huaisang touching his shoulder. He’s damaged and only the people paying the most attention to his mental state (Jiang Yanli and Lan Zhan) really notice how bad it is but neither of them are able to do more than soothe him in the moment. It’s so painful to watch.

Wen Yuan | Lan Sizhui. All the junior disciples are darlings but omg his story touched me so much. Because one of the heartrending things that WWX is experiencing before he dies is that all his sacrifices for the Wen survivors appear to have come to nothing. He sees their dead bodies; hears their deaths being talked about with glee. For this child to have survived means his time as the Yiling Patriarch was NOT in vain. He wasn’t able to save most of them, but he (and Lan Zhan) saved this child, who we get to see as a nearly-grown young man and he is a sweetheart of a boy. Seeing him reconnect with Wen Ning and then WWX was… very emotional.

Complex morality in terms of what love means. This is a topic that is only briefly touched on verbally but resonates throughout the story, because, both Wei Ying and Lan Zhan do, at various points, see love as something that cages (though from opposing perspectives). The story of Lan Zhan’s mother, locked away by his father; Wei Ying worrying that love would be a yoke around his neck. This is something they both worry at and struggle over at various points. Is love a leash? Is it love to put your beloved in a cage, no matter how golden? How do you prevent your love from becoming a suffocating and controlling thing? Lan Zhan talks about this with his brother, Lan Xichen, describing his affection for Wei Ying in the only terms he ever saw as an example for love — that he wants to bring Wei Ying home and hide him away. That’s the struggle he goes through during the years of Wei Ying’s darkest emotional times. Lan Zhan can see that things are bad (though Wei Ying never admits it until after his resurrection, when they go back to the burial mounds and he says how hard those years were for him and the Wens) but he doesn’t have a toolkit to address the problem in a way that would be acceptable to Wei Ying. This is something Lan Zhan takes HUGE steps to overcome once Wei Ying is back. Like i mentioned above, he is So Soft. He has regrets and now this most painful regret is something he has the chance to address and fix. To make his love into a partnership instead of a cage (and they make such good partners!). In terms of this specific theme (and I don’t know how important it is in the book, relatively speaking), the temporary separation of the characters at the almost-end of the last episode really worked for me. Lan Xichen was shellshocked after what happened with Jin Guangyao, and there was a reaction shot of Lan Zhan looking at him that made me go “oh, yeah, he needs to take care of some things on the home front” and I think he also needed to prove to himself that he was capable of letting Wei Ying go, to prove to himself he’s not his father. Because his father abandoned all his sect responsibilities to seclude himself inside his… idea of love. So, in terms of the themes the show leaned on, I liked that separation with the promise of reunion. And then the last shot of the series, which brings that promise to life.

Overall, the story feels very compassionate. It wants you to love the majority of the characters and it sympathizes with the audience’s pain when those characters suffer. It rewards deeper thought. It rewards the viewer for caring about the characters, which is something I’ve really needed this year specifically, when it feels like so many shows have been punishing their audience for caring about the characters.

One last thing (there are tons of other amazing parts! But this is the last for right now): I have such a complicated love for Wei Ying in episode 32, specifically when he calls out the sect leaders on their hypocrisy in coveting his power while condemning him for creating it. Everything about his scene on the rooftop breaks my heart — he’s laughing and crying at the same time and he almost looks like a corpse himself, pale skin and purple lips. Everything about him screams that he’s on the knife’s edge of just fucking losing it over all the trauma he’s suffered and how lonely and scared he feels. It’s a stunning performance.

Acacia wood:

Marina and Acacius have a very loving and protective relationship. Being born with a neglectant mother and an abusive father, the two learned to rely on each other at a very young age. When Acacius started studying at Hogwarts, he made sure to teach Marina everything he learned during the holidays and the summer.

Much like his younger sister, Acacius is not one to look away from injustice, having to watch his family suffer from his own father’s cruelty for so long. Thanks to the support of Duncan Ashe and Olivia Green, he learned how to stand up to his father and how to quietly rebel against other sorts of authority figures, something he passed onto Marina.

Acacius tends to say ‘fuck it,’ when someone talks shit about his family or muggleborns and just fight them the muggle way. He finds it a good way to get his aggression out but it got him into loads of trouble and a reputation as a delinquent at Hogwarts. It was one of the few things he didn’t pass onto his baby sister.

Emeric is a faithful follower of Voldemort, his ambition of furthering his family legacy based on power instead of blood purity being the only thing more powerful.

He married Marina’s mother merely for the natural born skill of legilemncy that ran trough her family, hoping it would pass onto their childeren. As far as most of the wizarding world knows, this marriage nor the childeren it produced exists. Emeric has another family elsewhere to keep up his reputation as a powerful and clean man.

He controlled his hidden family with fear and his connections, making a show of torturing aurors during Voldemort’s reign and forcing his childeren to watch.

The abuse was never physhical but mental torture, as a punishment for Acaius and Marina for not having legillmens abilities as far as he knows.

Mother: Abigail Kowalski-Willow.

Abigail is a witch who was born and raised in America and transferred to Hogwarts after an experiment gone wrong and got her expelled from Ilvermorny.

A naïve yet determinded soul who enjoyed using her legilemens abilities whenever possible, but her ambitions got her into huge financial debt after graduating from Hogwarts.

Enamored with Emeric’s affections and interested in his wealth, she agreed to marry him after a few months of flirting.

When Acacius hid his talent from Emeric, the wizard took his frustrations out on Abigail, torturing her with the cruciatus curse. By the time Marina was born, their mother had passed the brink of insanity. Neither of the kids truly got to know their mother and never learned they got their curiosity and determination from her.

The few happy moments she had in her early childhood was whenever her father was working or at a meeting and her mother enchanted the music instruments to play her favourite lullaby as she and Acacius danced and chased each other around the ballroom.

The order of the Phoenix managed to capture Emeric Willow before Voldemort’s defeat at the Potter house. By then Acacius had already dissapeared, leaving Marina alone in an empty household. The few house elves that worked there took care of her as Abigail was taken into St. Mungo’s.

CAUTION: I don’t mean to spark hope with this or try to make up something that might happen on Sunday or anything. I know how we all feel with theories perfectly making sense and then being crushed in front of us by stupid writing decisions. Been there, didn’t do me any good. But this thing popped up in my mind before I could stop it so I decided to allow me this little headcanon to soothe my soul when everything is finally over and the rage began to subside (never). I would never believe something like that will really happen, because it would require D&D to actually make sense and I do not trust them to do anymore. So, again, please don’t take the following as a real theory on things, but rather as something we can tell ourselves to feel better about this whole chaotic shit show mess we now have to deal with.

Just another quick thing: I won’t go into book canon for this, just because we know they diverged so badly from the book content, especially regarding this particular character, that we really can’t rely on anything from it at this point. I can, however, imagine this ending with Jaime and Cersei dying “together” also happening in the books, BUT I just think it is extremely poorly executed in the show and the books will provide us with a progression towards it that we can live or actually be content with.

To begin with, I know a lot of us, clown shoes and all, are still hoping/believing Jaime is actually alive. It doesn’t really contradict the thing I’m going to talk about, but I don’t want to push my imagination, stick as close to the “””””canon””””” as possible, so I’ll just assume in my post that Jaime has, in fact, died. Let’s get into it.

Jaime did the Honourable Thing.

Yes, I know. This sounds pretty vague. This obviously wasn’t the starting point of this whole train of thought. We’ll get to it. The thing that started it all was the little voice in my head saying What if they somehow found out (i.e. finding a letter, which was my first attempt to it) that Jaime’s intention was, in fact, to stop Cersei. Even in the way it actually turned out to happen.

As everyone already pointed out, he was the only one who could get close enough to her, so he made her stay in the collapsing building by staying in it as well, because he probably thought if he doesn't somehow prevent her from getting out she will be rescued by someone, i.e. the Mountain. He had to make sure she was stopped and the only way of knowing for certain was to be present in the time of her death, witnessing it. Even if that meant he had to die as well. He probably even welcomed the opportunity, in his twisted post-abuse way of thinking. He never intended to live anyway because his oath to fight for the living was fulfilled and he was so full of self-loathing that he believed he couldn't redeem himself other than in dying with her. Cersei who was the reason for him to retreat from a fairly decent man with hopes and dreams of honour, who put the life of his (innocent) people before his reputation when killing the Mad King, to someone who killed innocent people, for her, out of the desperate love he felt for her.

Felt. Formerly. Let's point out that he never ever said he loved her after their reunion. Even in their moment of certain death he didn’t tell her he loved her. A character whose, like, every third sentence, was about love. All these distinctive quotes we associate with him “The things I do for love”, “We can’t choose who we love”. It’s basically the core of his character. Isn’t it kinda strange that someone like that wouldn’t bother to say the word? For me it is. (Let’s forget that D&D probably kinda forgot about it)

“Nothing else matters" were the words he chose to say before he (presumably) dies. Nothing else matters than ending the torture. Even when he said “only us” this doesn’t necessarily have to be a declaration of love. They die together. Only them. The torture ends. Not only the torture of innocents, but also the torture he feels. The toxicity, the immense guilt. Because they die, nothing else matters for him in this moment. I would even go so far as to say maybe he thinks, again, in his own way of thinking, when they, and only they, have to die now, there’s a chance for those who, in fact, matter to him (Tyrion, Brienne, maybe even the Stark sisters) to get to live. Of course he is not untouched by the death of his sister, even plays a part in it, of course. They have been together their whole lives and there were happier times, there was a long time he had loved her romantically, he probably, certainly never stopped loving her as his sister, as part of his family for whom he would have done everything. So, naturally this wasn’t easy for him, he couldn’t just go and kill her with a crossbow (though this would’ve been a scene) but he is there when the building collapses. Realising they won’t make it out he tells her what she wants to hear, uses her own words. And of course because he knows that’s what she wants to hear, he tells her this, but never says “I love you.” Never. Partly to trap her there, calm her, soothe himself as well, probably. Partly because it wouldn’t be the thing he wanted her to hear in their final moment. Again, we’re talking about a character who was always associated with statements regarding love, and also actions made for love, for love being an essential in his character.

Saying this I am fully aware of how D&D treated an every character’s core in this season, of course I will never ever expect this to actually be behind it all, but I can’t help going on.

Let’s get to Tyrion. I was pretty shocked, when I watched it for the first time, at how easily Tyrion accepted yet another change of heart from Jaime. Yes, they really got close again which was beautiful and also exactly why the Tyrion I, we all, know, would never completely ignore the fact that Brienne existed. Not even asked about her. Just accepted that Cersei was the one Jaime ultimately chose and then saying something about starting a new life when HE was the one who was madly overjoyed when Jaime had FINALLY DECIDED to live a new life WITH BRIENNE. He even kind of initiated the final step for them. He would’ve never just let it pass like that. Then it dawned on me. This was to show that Jaime really managed to convince his brother what must have been, like, probably the hardest part in the journey. Tyrion is the person who knows him best, Tyrion saw him happy in Winterfell, happy even though he knows him well enough to see it’s out of love for Brienne and not because he liked the North so much. That is why Jaime had to pull something pretty grave to make him believe he intended to live. Why else would he have said he "never cared much" for the people in KL, the people he gave his honour for when he killed Aerys and would forever be called Kingslayer and Oathbreaker when all he ever wanted was to be an honourable knight, just because he couldn't save them otherwise, as to get the point across to Tyrion?

That lie to Tyrion? Something he never did before. He always meant what he said and stayed true to his word and his lying began with the parting from Brienne and he has been lying ever since just to make sure no one crosses his plan. He chose to remain silent about the real reason why he killed the King just to not have to make anything up so the people would stop shaming him (even if he didn't have to because the truth would be more than enough) he never actually lied about anything as far as I remember. And that's why I believe everything he said from the moment he left Brienne onward was a lie, the part that convinces me is "Never cared much for them" because THAT is a DAMNED lie, canonically. (And yes again, this is 99% because D&D know shit and just right up forgot about that it is a lie and of course everything he said and did from last episode to now is exactly that because D&D are imbeciles.) Lies to finally get him to his objective: Stopping Cersei, trying to make up for all his wrongs.

Broke Brienne's heart, kinda broke Tyrion's heart as well by purposely proving him wrong in his assumptions about him, so they couldn’t stop him or try to talk him out of it. Because imagine he told Tyrion he didn't plan to make it out alive either. Tyrion would've never helped him. He would have let him be chained in that tent until everything is over and they decide what will happen to him, because like this there would still be a possibilty Jaime would live in the end. Look at his reaction when Tyrion tells him to run away with Cersei. Of course he can't say "No bro, won't happen because we will die, but thanks for the effort" instead he makes him believe he will actually try to do that in order to be freed.

I also questioned why Tyrion never wondered about the golden hand. Yes, he asked if he considered covering it, but isn’t it strange he doesn’t doubt anything in it? Like Jaime doing exactly that when he came to Winterfell in the first place, but not when he rode back? Almost as if it was on purpose? Thought didn’t cross Tyrion’s mind (nor D&D’s of course) because he simple believed that “stupidest Lannister” crap, but it did mine... He wanted to be caught. He believed it would be the safest way to ensure he somehow got to Cersei. Which brings me, finally, to the second part of this chaos.

Bran told Jaime what to do.

I promise, I haven’t gone completely insane yet. Let’s give it a thought. Some point along my long train of thought I came across the controversy that even though he mentiones it in his conversation with Brienne, Jaime was already redeemed for his pushing Bran out of that tower window by Bran himself (or the three-eyed raven, as it pleases you, but he saw him and they talked). So I thought about how that scene at the tree went exactly. Bran letting Jaime know that he was aware of the reasons he did it then, the whole “I’m not that person anymore” thing. Bran telling Jaime he wasn’t Bran anymore. First of all, I think, Bran would’ve seen through it if that “I’m not that person anymore” was a lie. Would have corrected him as emotions can’t take an influence on his judgement anymore, nor does empathy or modesty. Anyway. That crazy thought crossed my mind, as I had always compared three-eyed raven with Marvel’s Doctor Strange who knows the one possible way out of many impossibilities to end the war, what did little three-eyed raven Bran have to say to Jaime Lannister? He gave Arya the dagger with which she killed the Night King. So, why shouldn’t he tell Jaime how to stop his sister, especially if this was the only way it could happen?

That’s when I thought I started to make things up and see ghosts. If the scene ended with Jaime leaving Bran that whole explanation would go to dust. He didn’t. In fact, the scene ends with Jaime asking Bran why he didn’t tell the others what happened and Bran stating they needed Jaime to help in this fight. And when Jaime asks “What about afterwards?” he is answered “How do you know there is an afterwards?” We see Jaime’s confused/shocked face. That’s it. Cut. No Jaime leaving Bran or the other way around. A following conversation is entirely possible. Even kind of hinted by the way Jaime looks when the scene is cut, as if there really is something to follow. Especially when we look at the next scene which has Jaime and Tyrion talking. Talking about Cersei, how she fooled (or hadn’t fooled) them, killing her or being killed by her, in particular. The way Jaime looks, again, after Tyrion says something about how he loved her anyway, the way he looks as soon as Tyrion uses “Cersei” and “murder” in the same context. And then of course that’s when he sees Brienne.

I don’t doubt that he loves Brienne. I could write a thousand pages on why and give all the evidence we all know by heart by now, D&D would still find a way to make it seem he didn’t in the end, but however. He wouldn’t just walk away after making that face when Tyrion talked about Cersei and killing her or be killed by her, to watch Brienne when he didn’t love her. Let’s just very quickly point to the image of Oathkeeper initiating our dearest love scene in episode 4, even THOUGH this is the episode everything went south in the end and it was written by D&D and not, like, Bryan Cogman who blessed us with episode 2 and wanted to get some more shipping feels across. No, Oathkeeper with all its symbolism (D&D most probably kinda forgot about) is in episode 4 and it’s not even an acting choice from people who are just as emotionally invested, it’s a cinematographic one.

So, that Bran part is of course not necessary for the whole finding out about Jaime’s real intention to stop Cersei thought. But I think it really makes sense, especially when looking at those particular scenes in episode 2. It could provide an explanation to how Jaime knew that what he was doing would actually work. Even if Bran told him he would die in the process, Jaime wouldn’t have backed down (run from the fight), since he, in the state he was in at that time, would’ve welcomed death anyway. Telling Jaime that he wasn’t Bran anymore, but something else would make perfect sense if he, in fact, told him “off screen” after the cut, that there was a plan and had to convince him of its credibility. This would be a perfect thing to reveal after what many see as a cliffhanger (clown nose is on, even if Jaime is really dead) at the end of 5. We already got this move from Jaime once. Of course, however, this would be imaginable if D&D still cared about the show. Won’t happen, but there’s still the possibility to keep this headcanon. Especially the part with the letter/note I mentioned at the beginning of this long ass post.

Another thing to point out is Brienne’s quite possible pregnancy. Really a bitter thing when she is left believing Jaime left her for Cersei and because he didn’t love her (anymore), right? Here we can even include some of those cool leaks into my “little” headcanon, as those even support it, in the case they really are true again.

The one about Brienne and the little blonde boy. Yeah, the thing about her pregnancy, seems to be correct, poor thing believing she was never truly loved and gets reminded of it every day. Well, there is another one saying the epilogue will be a flash forward from Bran’s perspective. What if this is shown exactly for that reason, for Bran explaining why Jaime actually left, that it was the plan all along and so Brienne will know she wasn’t betrayed?

(Okay, this last little field trip requires a thin layer of tinfoil. What if that “die together, so that others could live” part in Jon’s after battle speech in 4, which, as we all know, shows our Jaime and Brienne standing next to each other, doesn’t refer to Brienne and Jaime but to their son? Just think about how the horrors of the battle finally brought out the urge to act on their feelings. And if you put another layer of tinfoil on top, you could also connect it with Jaime and Cersei dying together. “Only us”. And Brienne and her son - who would never have been safe as long as Cersei was breathing - could live.)

Nik used to say the ending was done in an “intelligent way”. What we have seen so far was by no means intelligent. What would indeed be intelligent though, is if something like this actually is revealed. Bran or note, whereby Bran would, of course, be a pretty credible way to do it, finding out there was actually a plan behind that whole mess with Jaime, that he truly loved Brienne and really went to KL only to stop Cersei and not actually go back to her, that is something that Nik probably would like. Brienne with their son, but not as a constant reminder of his betrayal, but rather of his love for her and the honourable thing he did in the end, that would also be bittersweet. Not just bitter.

Nik probably started to keep telling himself something along the lines of this until he finally believed it, until he could say his ending was good. And this is what I intend to do, starting now, surviving Sunday and keep reminding me of when I feel the outrage coming back, until I find peace. This will be my truth now. They can’t take that away.

It was one hell of a trip in this fandom. Have a nice last day before the shit comes down one last time. Stay safe and strong!

After meeting and subsequently marrying Andrew's mother Trudy, he learned of the existence of the magical world, which he does his best to understand and not be overwhelmed by it. Following his wife getting injured on the job and his son Jacob's disappearance in a short amount of time, he began to fear magic and wanted to keep Andrew away from it. This caused enough tension with his wife that the two ended up separating.

A half blood witch herself, she began attending Hogwarts in 1950 and was sorted into Ravenclaw. Her penchant for helping and keeping order led to her being prefect and then Head Girl. They eventually married and had two sons. In early 1984 she was part of a team tasked with the capture of Bellatrix Lestrange. In the process of capturing her and her associates, Trudy would lose nearly 2/3rds of her right forearm. A few months later and tragedy struck again when her eldest son Jacob went missing. The added stress of these events lead to fighting and an eventual separation from her husband.

Rainy Dawg Radio’s Best of the 2010s!

ALBUMS

Palberta - Bye Bye Berta

Palberta is a band that somehow manages to scratch almost every musical itch I have. Nowhere else have I heard a band successfully hold three part harmonies over squeaky atonal guitar riffs and abstract drum thrashing. Although I wouldn’t categorize them as twee, noise rock, post-punk, indie pop, no-wave, or any other genre name for that matter, they distill everything I love from all these types of music and mush it into something beautifully stinky. In my eyes, their 2017 album Bye Bye Berta stands as the definitive statement of what Palberta’s all about. With 20 tracks clocking in at under half an hour, the album wastes no time on filler. Skronky punk riffs burst apart at the seams and a sweet little lo-fi love song comes out of the wreckage, only to be replaced by an abstract tape sample collage. The band also has an incomparable mastery over lyricism, as evidenced by such classics as Finish My Bread (Finish my finish my finish my bread, finish my finish my finish my bread, etc…) and Trick Ya (HEY! Don’t trick me, I’m gonna trick you! HEY! Don’t trick me, I’m gonna trick you!). Highlights include the endearingly ramshackle and stupid pretty “Honey, Baby” and their cover of “Stayin’ Alive” (Jenny’s eating burgers and everybody’s shakin’ and stayin’ alive!)

Alex G - DSU

Shit if you know me you know I live for that sad bastard indie music. That’s exactly what DSU does best. Probably my most played record of the 2010s, this album’s lo-fi indie rock overfloweth. The opener, After Ur Gone, is on the noisier side of the album’s spectrum along with the squealing guitar of Axesteel and Icehead (peep the scream vocals in his live performances), while songs like the instrumental Skipper exemplify why Frank Ocean tapped Alex for the Self Control riff on Blonde. The emotional core of the record, Sorry, gets right back to the Elliott Smith comparisons that we know and love: lyrics of trauma, drugs and apologies included. My favorite song is Harvey; it smacks me right in the younger brother emo spot, with “run my hands through his short black hair I say / ‘I love you Harvey I don’t care’”. While not as chaotic as House of Sugar, twangy as Rocket, or psychedelic as Beach Music, this record is Alex G comfort music at its finest.

Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma

Picture this: J Dilla, Madlib, and Aphex Twin all come together to create an album with little more than some old Coltrane records and an original Xbox at their disposal. The end result is like a trip through the universe. Yet the album comes from the mind of a single individual, who sits in the cockpit with a mischievous grin on his face: Steven Ellison, known professionally as Flying Lotus. The opening track, ‘Clock Catcher’, feels like Ellison slamming his foot onto the ignition so hard that it snaps out of place, shooting into the heavens at the speed of light before the listener can even strap in. Whirling through the stars, the rest of the album is the journey home from the expanse, often melancholic, often wondrous, always changing. From the punchy, off-kilter rhythms of tracks like ‘Nose Art’ and ‘Computer Face//Pure Being’ to the fat synth melodies of ‘Dance of the Pseudo Nymph’, ‘Recoiled’, and ‘Do The Astral Plane’, Flylo is always striking the listener from a different sonic vantage point. You can tell he’s having the time of his life with each of these songs, wanting to share every bit of it with our eardrums. After countless listens, I’m still finding new things about this album to appreciate. A complete masterpiece of cosmic epiphany fuel.

Ott. - Fairchildren

People throw so much music at me. And I remember this album was recommended to me back in high school, and I listened to it for the first time in zero-th period -- I think it was someone who went by the name “phryk” on IRC. And dang, it’s still such a good album! In what sense? It’s so well-mixed; that’s the first part. Secondly, it is just a wonderful listening experience from start to finish. If you need a good album of reggae, dub, electronic, here it is. One thing you shouldn’t do with this album: use it to test out speakers at Goodwill. The bass of this album was so good that I bought home a pair of speakers that turned out to be so bad.

Car Seat Headrest - Twin Fantasy

Bandcamp has been known for hosting some of our wildest dreams this decade, and when 2011 lobbed William Toledo’s first rendition of Twin Fantasy down my ears my life changed. Emotions are crushed to death in the back of parking lots, the lo-est of fi’s, and lyrics that trigger far and melancholy memories of the early 2010 zeitgeist swarmed with insecurity and Skype calls. The album is Toledo’s first cohesive piece, finally creating work with developed central themes, dedicating the first concept album of his life to falling in and consequently out of love. The album speaks as a mirror to itself, reflecting Will’s own joy and confusion towards falling conservatively and completely in love, until the sobering downward spiral back into isolation. I was only eleven when I let the album own me completely, and am only nineteen as I hold onto it for dear life. Twin Fantasy was never a perfect album, and Toledo recognized this as he re-released Twin Fantasy (Face to Face) in 2018, reinventing the album’s sound with a much higher fidelity, lyrical updates, and redone instrumentals that turn the original into an overture or prologue to be enjoyed separately for more context. Searing solos, cute doo-wop moments, sentimental lyrics, slap-happy drums, fish wearing business suits, dogs, coming out over Skype, smoking, not smoking, nice shoulders, waitresses, the Bible, the ghost of Mary Shelley’s frankenstein, cursive, they might be giant’s rip offs, not knowing SHIT about girls, stealing alcohol from our grandparents and grandparents, bruised shins, cults, fish, getting the spins, and being really really really sensitive to the sunlight. I’d fight for this album, listening to “Cute Thing” as I get RKO’d. Take the time to enjoy the ride, I wouldn’t miss it for the world. (It technically used to be a gay furry album, but now it’s techincally a straight trans furry album.)

Sabaton - The Last Stand

Sabaton is every history teachers dream band. These Swedish power metallers educate the listener about the history of war by discussing various battles, conflicts, and figures. They do this through anthemic choruses, riffs that make your fist pump, and oddly enough synths that work surprisingly well. Since history interests me and I really like metal, Sabaton was pretty much made for me. This album will always have a soft spot in my heart and evoke fond memories as it was one of the first CDs I picked up after getting my license back in 2016. As I gained more independence and freedom as I approached adulthood, this was my soundtrack. This album lived in my CD player during this time as I listened to it over and over again, never once losing its replayability. Ranging from the American battalion that got lost in the Argonne Forest during WWI to Allied and Axis forces joining together to fight at the end of WWII, this album tells of various historical last stands. While this is certainly isn’t the best metal release of the decade, it’s still an extremely solid album. In this case, the sentimentality plays a larger role than anything. While it may not be found on any “Best Album of the Decade” lists, Sabaton’s The Last Stand will always hold a place in my heart and in my car’s CD player.

CONCERTS

07/20/19: What the Heck? Fest @ Croatian Club, Anacortes, WA

Choosing a single favorite concert from the entire past decade seemed insurmountable until I decided to define it by the overall experience rather than exclusively the music. This past summer, I was lucky enough to be one out of barely over a hundred people at the first What the Heck? Fest in 8 years. The festival took place annually from 2001 to 2011, featuring PNW indie legends, K records icons, and all manner of dorky indie folk kids. WTH laid dormant until this past spring, when Phil Elverum (Mount Eerie) announced its return along with the revival of his long-dead initial moniker, the Microphones. I made the trip up from Seattle alone by train and bus, spent a little while wandering Anacortes (the Business was closed :( ) and made my way to the repurposed church which houses the Unknown and the Croatian Club. I ended up seated a few feet from Calvin Johnson in one direction and Kimya Dawson in another. I felt a little out of place at times, like a stranger in the middle of a 90s indie family reunion, but the atmosphere remained consistently welcoming. D+ opened the show, fronted by Bret Lunsford (formerly of Beat Happening), the founder and main organizer of WTH, and backed by Phil Elverum and Karl Blau, who played their own sets later in the night. K Records mainstays Lois and Mecca Normal were on next, delivering stripped down, socially-driven whisper punk/indie pop. Karl Blau led an outdoor sing-along and covered a Pounding Serfs song, who played the next set (their first in [a lot of?] years) for a total of two renditions of “Slightly Salted,” a song I could have listened to in every set that night. Phil hopped back onstage again alongside Lee Baggett to back Kyle Field from Little Wings, an indie-folk favorite of mine, with rambly half-nonsensical lyrics and plenty of soft strummed warm twangly guitars. Black Belt Eagle Scout delivered (comparatively) heavier sounds, coupling slow, soft sung melodies with fuzzed out shoegaze tones, building tension until the Microphones (Phil backed by Kyle, Karl, Lee and keyboardist Nicholas Krgovich) came out for the final set of the night. They opened with what I interpret as a 25-minute rendition of the then-unreleased Belief, which was later shortened to 7 and a half minutes as the opener to the new Mount Eerie record, Lost Wisdom pt. 2. Phil then played a handful of old Microphones tracks alone, including a version of The Glow pt. 2’s title track with reworked lyrics, as well as its closer, My Warm Blood, excerpts from the final Microphones album (confusingly titled Mount Eerie), and what I believe to be another unreleased song. I left with the most limited merch I’ve ever managed to snag: one of two Ziploc bags of lettuce with “the Microphones” and a small K records logo sharpied on the front. I felt bad eating my merch, but it sustained me through the cold Anacortes night as I wandered to and from poorly lit parks, killing time until my 4AM bus back to Seattle.

03/09/19: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (Solo) @ Vermillion Gallery, Seattle WA

Was really not sure what to expect from this one going in, but CYHSY’s s/t from 2005 has always been one of my favorite records. I hadn’t ever been to Vermillion in Capitol Hill, but it was hosting CYHSY on a “living room tour”, where Alec Ournsworth (vox, guitar, harmonica[!]) hit tiny spaces around the country. Vermillion sat 40 at most, and I got to check out some cool local art in the space as well. Alec’s trademark voice that (according to p4k) sounds “as if someone were pressing his vocal cords to a fret board and bending them” which is pretty damn accurate. Amongst CYHSY’s greatest hits (In This Home On Ice and Cool Goddess in particular), he also covered Pixies and Tom Waits through lively and exciting banter. Great dude, great music, great venue. My favorite of the 2010’s for sure.

11/14/18: Milo @ Vera Project, Seattle, WA

Milo, and the ruby yacht house band are poetic alchemists that constantly dish out hefty servings of succulent syllables with each new release. Kenny Segal who does the beats for a few of Milo’s songs (and other hip hop artists) opened by transporting the crowd into the ethereal realm with a few classics from his album: happy little trees. Once Kenny Segal finished, Milo accompanied by the ruby yacht house band jumped on stage. I was close enough that I could make out Milo’s squirtle tattoo on his bicep and waited for his vivid and veracious vocabulary to leave me in a state of decapitation. Crispy, potato chip like static (a Milo-live signature) was consumed ferociously by the crowd as he hit us with one banger after another. About halfway through the set Milo dropped the mic and went off stage into the back room. The ruby yacht house band was left Milo-less; their beat lingering in the air, festering with each hit of the snare. Milo returned a while later, wielding a pair of tap dancing shoes in one hand and a ukulele in the other. He put on the tap dancing shoes on stage, everyone in the audience screaming with his return. Donned with the tap dancing shoes and positioning his ukulele on his chest; he began to dance. Holy shit he was good too. Strumming the uke and tap dancing away I was utterly mesmerized. My eyes glued to his performance. Suddenly, as if stricken by some divine intervention, Milo seized the ukulele by the neck and smashed it against the ground, splintering into a thousand pieces. After his destructive fit, he picked the microphone back up and whispered into it emotionlessly: “Think about that”. I did. The whole experience was transcendental and instantly triumphed as my greatest concert of the decade. You KNOW I snagged a sliver of uke on my way out.

08/07/17: Metallica @ CenturyLink Field, Seattle, WA

While Metallica has had its ups and downs throughout their career, they do one thing well, and that is putting on a damn good live show. Metallica built the best line-up I have ever seen, given the popularity of the bands they chose. With them they took Avenged Sevenfold, who I greatly dislike but are still a huge band, and Gojira, one of the best modern death metal bands on the scene. The sheer size of this concert was absolutely and extremely inspiring as Metallica was able to fill up CenturyLink Field, a venue usually reserved for pop artists who draw in thousands of attendees. The amount of people that attended signaled to me that metal is far from dead. While this tour was in support of their newest album Hardwired to Self Destruct, Metallica made sure to incorporate classics into their setlist including “Seek and Destroy,” “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” and “Battery.” James, Robert, Kirk, and Lars delivered a killer concert will tight playing and outstanding individual performances. Being able to see my music hero, James Hetfield, play live was truly a special experience. The one thing that stood out during the performance were the visuals. Each song had a unique and individual video effect on the large screens behind the band which made each song special and memorable it its own way. While I wasn’t close to the stage by any means, the crowd interaction created a unique experience that made me feel much closer than I really was. This concert wasn’t just a concert, but also a life-changing experience. Seeing the band that truly got me into metal, the thing that I rest my individuality on, is something that defined the decade for me and will live with me forever.

“You Are Here” - Yo La Tengo

This one I don't think I can fully explain. By miles, this is my most played song of all time. It is the opener of Yo La Tengo’s 15th album, There’s A Riot Going On. The album, and song, starts with the meditative synth line that builds into a pulsing rhythm over the course of the first minute. The rhythm maintains through the rest of the song, as casual guitar strumming is added and another synth that doesn’t sound all that dissimilar to Jonny Greenwood’s Ondes Martenot. My favorite part of the song, though, are the drum fills of the latter half: they crash and roll like the ocean. With or without the title of the song, the audio conveys a degree of presentness and contentedness that I haven’t been able to find elsewhere quite yet. I’d recommend it.

HPHM Year 5 Chapter 30

I have been shook to the core by this recent chapter so I decided to write a little blurb of Donna and Jacob Walker being reunited, only for him to leave again.

Spoilers for HPHM ahead so read with caution or don’t read at all Bc it jumps straight into the spoiler... sorz

Things to know before reading:

• Ben and Donna are best friends who have crushes on each other

• Merula and Donna are hella close by now and have even admitted feelings for eachother by the time they enter the vault

Once Merula reminded Donna that her brother was in the vault, she didn’t hesitate to run into the vault portrait. She pushed the betrayal in the back of her mind. She pushed the image of Merula hurting to the back of her mind, all so she could find her brother. This was the moment. She’d step into that vault and face the truth — whatever the hell that might be.

Donna froze before entering the vault. Would she find him dead, like Rakepick said he was? Like Merula mad half the Wizarding world had said all these years? Or would he be alive? And if he was alive, would he be the same as she remembered him? Would he be one of good guys? Or another Rakepick waiting to happen.

“What are you doing Walker?” Merula asked weakly from the ground. “Donna... go save your brother.”

Donna glanced back at her friends before gaining the courage needed to step into the vault. As she as she did, her eyes scanned the many potraits that hung inside.

“Jacob...?” She asked tentatively. “A-are you in here...”

“Belladonna...?” Donna heard from behind. “Is that... is that really you?”

She turned around, seeing her older brother for the first time in six years, standing inside a portrait. He was alive. His hair was much longer than the last time she had seen him and he looked more haggard and beaten than usual — but he was alive.

Donna ran to the portrait, placing her hands where his where pressed against the portrait. I’m that moment, she knew this was her brother. All doubts that he wasn’t who she remembered vanished as he looked at her with that same look of love and annoyance that only an older brother can look at his little sister with. He was really here.

“Jacob...” She hiccuped. “You’re —“

“Alive, yes! Now get me out of here pipsqueak — push that,” he pointed behind them, causing Donna to chuckle through the tears and push the center of the vault like he instructed.

Jacob fell forward, and before he could hit the ground, Donna was right there to catch him. “I-I really thought I had lost you,” she cried.

Jacob wrapped his arms around her, pulling his little sister into the tightest embrace they had ever shared. “I’m a lot harder to get rid of then that, Bellie.”

Donna rolled her eyes, pushing out the embrace and rubbing the tears away. “Prick, you know I hate that name.”

Jacob smirked. “Exactly... blimey have you grown.”

Donna smiled. “You haven’t,” she joked, referring to his height... or lack there of. “You’re hair has — you should definitely wash it.”

Jacob rolled his eyes, shoving his sister playfully. “Prat. Not as if there’s a shower in portrait world.”

Donna smiled. She wanted to hold onto this moment for all eternity. Her brother was back. This summer he would come home and the Walker family would be close to fixed. Dinner would no longer be silent and sullen but filled with the joy and laughter it use to be filled with. She would no longer have to listen to her mother cry herself to sleep. She would no longer have to watch her father drink himself to death. Everything would be as it was.

Charlie and Bill ran in then, prompting Jacob to push Donna behind his body in a move of protection.

“Stay back!” He shouted. “I don’t need a wand to knock you out!”

“Heel, Cobbler,” Donna said, moving from behind him. “They’re my friends — Bill and Charlie Weasley. They helped me get to you.”

Jacob looked from Donna to the two red headed boys before relaxing in stance. “Hope you don’t expect a thank you - you lot did take six years.”

Donna rolled her eyes, smiling fondly. “That’s his unique way of actually saying thank you.”

“No it’s not,” Jacob said.

“I definitely see the resemblance,” Bill said. “That attitude is definitely Walker Attitude.”

“Is she okay?!” Merula said, running into the vault. Her expression relaxed as her eyes landed on Donna, who stood happily next to her brother.

“Merula, what are you doing?” Donna asked, running to grab her arm to steady her. “You should be laying down.”

“And miss the chaotic family reunion?” Merula asked with a smirk. “Unlikely.”

“I tried to stop her,” Ben said, following in. “She wouldn’t listen to reason.”

“Blimey Bella — how many witches and wizards does it take to break one cursed vault,” Jacob said. Donna knew he was purposefully sounding like a prat, but his tone made him sound like he was just a prat in general.

“Rakepick apparently wanted insurance,” Bill muttered through gritted teeth. “Thought she could offer us as dragon food... I’m sorry I put you in danger Charlie..”

Donna cringed, feeling the betrayal like a punch to the gut. She should have seen it coming and scolded herself for being so stupid. But she was blinded by her words and caring gestures. Donna felt like a fool for trusting in her — allowing her to be a mentor to her....

“Rakepick?!” Jacob asked, his voice a scary kind of assertive. His tone alone was enough to shake them all to the core. “Where the bloody hell is she. I swear I’ll —“

“Jacob, she’s gone,” Donna said. “S-She left....”

Jacob shook her head. “I have to find her.”

“We will,” Donna said. “And we’ll make sure she pays for what she did - but right now —“

“No,” Jacob said with harsh certainty.

Donna stumbled back at reaction, hurt by his rejection.

“...No...?”

“There’s no ‘we’ in this, Belladonna,” he said. “I started this - and I’m going to end it.”

“But — but Jac... I-I can help you. W-We can find Ivy —“

“Ivy isn’t in any of the vaults!” Jacob snapped. His voice shaking the vault around them. “I was manipulated by Rakepick and R and.... I’m doing this on my own Donna - you’ll just get in my way.”

Donna blinked back the tears the prickled and stung in her eyes. She wasn’t liking where this was heading.

“Reed, you cant possibly be —“

“I’ll see you soon Bellie.” His voice list any harshness, filled with the kind of softness he reserved for her and her alone. “I promise.”

“Reed Jacob I swear don’t you—“

As Donna stepped forward, Jacob apparated out. Donna tried to catch him before he could fully leave, but Bill held her back.

“Let me go!” She screamed, thrashing in his arms.

“You’ll get splinched, Donna,” Billa said, holding tightly.

“I don’t care!” she cried, pushing harder against Bill’s grip. It wasn’t until Jacob was fully gone that Bill let go of her.

She collapsed to the ground where Jacob had stood a few seconds before.

“No!!” She screamed, slamming her fists on the ground. “No, no, no!!”

She punched the ground with every ‘no,’ the many portraits shaking as she let out a loud cry. He couldn’t be gone. Not when she had just gotten him back. Not like that. Not as if she didn’t mean anything to him.

Merula and Ben quickly made their way to her side, Ben reaching her first. He put a hand on her shoulder as he bent to his knees. “I-I’m sorry Donnie...”

“H-he can’t....” Donna mumbled, leaning her head on Ben’s chest.

“I-I knew he was a prat,” Merula said softly, biting her lip.

“Donna,” Bill spoke softly. “We should... we should find a way out of here — tell Dumbledore about Rake—“

“Don’t say her name,” Donna seethed.

“I’m sorry...” Bill said.

“H-he’s right though,” Charlie spoke. “Merula doesn’t look too good....”

Donna sniffled, wiping her cheeks before accepting Ben’s help to stand up. Her eyes glued onto the now empty portrait. When she found her brother again, she would bash him in the balls.

“Okay... lets go...”

Character Summary: Tamrine Tamomille

Spoilers ahead for the whole MSQ

Name

Born Tan’rhyne Taamomi, she changed the spelling of her name to an Elezen one when she made the decision to travel to Eorzea, inspired by her Gridanian friend and as a way to mark a new beginning to her life.

I initially came up with Tamrine’s name with the vague knowledge that female Keepers’ names don’t have apostrophes, but since she is trans, I later decided that she should have a “male” birth name instead, which meant manipulating the lore rules a bit:

The prefix “Tan” indicates that she is the tenth child from her mother’s generation. In canon lore, this is normally a suffix, and the numbering is tied only to the mother, but well, my excuse is that the Taamomis follow their own version of the tradition. This is combined with Rhyne, which is her mother’s name.

Close Family

Tamrine is the third and youngest child of Rhyne (Miqo’te word for “esteem”), and has two older siblings, with the middle one having a different biological co-parent. The other parent of Tamrine and her eldest sibling is Sae’huji Tano.

Rhyne is a very determined person and a powerful thaumaturge who is seen as one of the future leader of the clan. She contrasts with her lover since teenage years Sae’huji, who is a more cool-headed conjurer. While the children of the clan are raised by all the caretakers and parents, Rhyne is nonetheless a very loving and protective mother of her biological children.

Tamrine has herself at least one biological child, To’ahana, who was conceived around a year before Tamrine left for Eorzea. The two have essentially never met.

Some time after the death of her fiancé and around the end of the Dragonsong war, Tamrine was officially adopted by Edmont Fortemps.

Romantic relationships

After her first adventures in Central Coerthas, Tamrine started dating Haurchefant, in who she found a kindred spirit she could relax with and be herself. Their bond only grew deeper over time and as turmoil threatened their loved ones. Haurchefant proposed to her before she left for Ishgard in search of a solution to the Dragonsong War and she accepted.

Following the death of her fiancé, she stayed sexually active but abstained from any similar romantic relationship for a few years, though she did begin to develop a crush on Urianger after the reveal of his handsome personality and face during the Warrior of Darkness incident.

It’s only years later, after the defeat of Hades, and while Tamrine was recovering at Urianger’s house, that the two of them finally opened their hearts to each other, ready to move on from their respective grief.

Personality

As the youngest of her siblings and cousins of her generation, and with shortcomings all the more notable for their contrast with her talented mother, Tamrine was quite shy as a child and teenager. As a young adult fulfilling her duty to the clan, she started to grow and come out of her shell progressively, but she particularly bloomed when she became an Eorzean adventurer, growing a lot more confident and brave to the point of recklessness.

Tamrine is rarely afraid to get hurt, both physical and mentally, which doesn’t reduce how much her wounds will still affect her. Even without her fearlessness, her love for adventuring, traveling around the world, and meeting and connecting with people, is just much greater than any downside or struggle that presents itself along the way. She loves the world and the people that inhabit it, and quite often, her singing and dancing is an expression of this love.

At some point, her repressed shyness and homesickness took on the form of Esteem’s Tenth, but after a fight, Tamrine accepted and compromised with this part of herself.

Pre-Adventurer Story and Background

Her family, the Taamomi, is a nomadic clan of Keepers of the Moon residing in Thavnair. They are secret guardians of ancient knowledge that has been passed from generation to generation. Besides the usual Miqo’te hunting tradition, they practice their own form of the Kriegstanz, Thavnair’s battle dancing tradition, but above all, are known by those they deal with as creators and sellers of monsters.

Unfortunately, despite being very skilled at manipulating aether for any sort of physical feats, Tamrine was inversely really bad at spellcasting. Her attempt at reshaping aether in new, complex form always led to chaotic results, making it impossible for her to directly help with the family business.

Based on her body type, her role as an adult was to travel mostly on her own as a satellite of the clan’s core unit (made of the children, caretakers/parents, and elders), which gave her space to reconsider her life and future. After a year, she met a Gridanian merchant who inspired her to travel to Eorzea with her.

Warrior of Light Saga

(From A Realm Reborn to post-Shadowbringers)

More precisely, Tamrine’s destination was Gridiana, where she was hoping to find someone who could teach her how to sing like the bards of old. Through many adventures, she ended up gaining a major reputation on the continent, not just as the Primal Slayer, but also as an outstanding and very sought-after bard.

On top of her combat abilities and the Echo, her natural inclination and capacity at “purifying” aether made her a perfect weapon against Primals. And with time, she learned to manipulate the energies of nature with more and more precision and strength through her singing, allowing her to fight evil and appease hearts with the power of her voice. Her self-confidence grew as she felt she had found what she had been born to do: changing the word into a better place with her own talents.

Even through the tragedies and debacles of her adventures, she kept dashing forward, unafraid of getting hurt, be it by spilling her blood or getting her heart broken. That is, until the day she lost a fight for the first time in her entire life. After her defeat at the hands of Zenos, her momentum of a few years stopped and she reconsidered what to do next.

As she was recuperating in the back lines, she met Nashmeira, the leader of a troupe of Dancers from Thavnair, who convinced her to relearn the steps of the Kriegstanz, this time in its proper, traditional form. Unlike the Taamomis’ version aimed to reinforce and exploit people’s negative emotions, the traditional school and its opposite aim suited Tamrine far better and she made tremendous progress learning and incorporating this new fighting style into her own. She refined it throughout her adventures in the East and came back to lead the charge of the war in Gyr Abania.

While she defeated Zenos in the end, Tamrine felt at a certain weariness once Ala Mhigo was liberated and the fighting ended for a time. She considered retiring as an adventurer and dedicating the rest of her life to the arts; but the choice was taken from her when the armies of Garlemald threaten Gyr Abania once more and as the Scions were swept away by a mysterious call.

The struggles she went through on the First ended up being some of the hardest she had ever gone through, but by the end, through the reunions with an old friend and with a part of her soul, Tamrine found healing. While she was resting at Urianger’s place, having recently started dating him, she came to the realization that she had a much easier time spellcasting than before.

Tamrine had notions about magic from what her clan had taught her, but she went back to the Source to seriously study magic and test her new limits. Unfortunately, she did figure out the new frontiers of magic abilities fairly quickly. She was able to use complex spells, but only at the expanse of seriously putting a strain on her body and health, especially with black or white magic.

An answer finally came to Tamrine when she realized that a crystal stone given to her by her family as per tradition was reacting to her spells. Following instructions given by her mother for such a case, she accomplished a ritual of several days, that mostly involved pouring her aether into the stone, until it took on a new color and revealed its purpose.

By doing this, Tamrine gave birth to an “alter ego” of sorts. An artificial intelligence based on her own psyche and meant to help her, especially with all matters of spellcasting. “Fuss,” as they named themself, studied Tamrine’s issue with magic and came up with an actual solution in two parts.

First, they encouraged her to turn her studies to Red Magic again, for its non-reliance of external aether (a strong source of strain for Tamrine) and its physical fighting style that would allow her to combine her strengths. Secondly, they guided her on the making of a sword capable of absorbing the strain caused by her magic and expelling it as an attack (though Fuss taught Tamrine to think of it as a bow when casting magic).

The results were extremely positive and Tamrine happily trained to combine all her fighting styles together while continuing her exploration of the arts of magic. Now a more versatile fighter than ever, and with the newfound motivation brought by her friends in the First and the conviction of still being able to grow and self-actualize further, she continues her adventures.

Miscellaneous Facts

- She is agender and went by “they” pronouns up until she left for Eorzea, where she switched to “she” pronouns.

- She is particularly tall for a Miqo’te, and is even taller than most Midlanders.

- She looks very similar to her mother, but her green eye is a bit of a mystery, as it isn’t clear to anyone from which ancestor she inherited it from.

- As a trained Miqo’te tracker and hunter, she can track a scent across very large distances, and also has pretty sensitive hearing. On the other hand, she is near-sighted. A fact that took a while for her to discover because of how reliant she is on her other senses, as per her family’s teachings. She simply didn’t realize that not everybody see things this blurry at a distance.

- Being the youngest of her biological siblings and cousins, she thoroughly enjoys treating Alphinaud, Alisaie, and Emmanuellain as her younger siblings.

- Besides the arts of music, singing, and dancing, one of Tamrine’s favorite hobby is competitive karuta, a game she learned from Hien during her travels in Doma that rely on subtle hearing and quick reflexes. She regularly teleports to Hingashi or Doma to participate in tournaments. Her good memory, sensitive hearing, and peak physical capabilities make her a fierce competitor.
