12 Days Of Noxmas [AKA, I Try To Finish A First Draft Before My Birthday]

JUNE 2, DAY 2

chapter six is finally done! I had other things to do yesterday so didn’t quite make my goal of completing chapter seven too, but I’ve adapted my deadlines to suit that.

CHANGES NEEDED:

more setting description of the prison breakout. I’m also not entirely happy with Zira and Riko’s conversation before they bump into Erzse — it seems too long and I could definitely push that into a different chapter, a ‘dream’ sequence maybe, so I’ll probably edit that! there also still some plot holes I need to work on, but they’re relatively minor.

PROUD OF:

the last section!! I liked introducing Moretti and have been looking forward to doing so for a while, so that was fun. I also liked the little interaction between Erzse and Riko: that was good too, and leads nicely into the next chapter, I think. I managed to solve a few plot holes there and then too. not only that, but I’m pretty bad at writing action, and I managed to do so pretty well in this chapter!

TOMORROW’S WORK (today’s because I’m posting this late):

it’s a three chapter day today! chapters 7, 8 and 10 need done today, so I’m gonna need to get on them asap. even two and a half chapters will be good! I’m proud of what I’m doing so far: now I have my laptop back from repair, hopefully I can power through today and finish those chapters!

12 Days of Noxmas [AKA I Try To Finish A First Draft In The 12 Days Leading To My Birthday]

JUNE 1, DAY 1

chapter 9 is done, baybee! I’m far from happy with it, but a first draft is a first draft, so i’ll deal with it! my favourite lines are posted above.

CHANGES NEEDED:

I need to start thinking much more about adding in setting description, rather than focusing so heavy on dialogue. usually I do the opposite, but I really need to think a little more about the setting, and I’m not entirely happy with llevan and york’s exchange after the section you see above either, so i’ll fix that at some point too!

PROUD OF:

I got to spontaneously add a little moment between erzse and riko, which was super nice. I’m surprised — pleasantly so — with how I wrote york in this chapter too: he came out a lot more sarcastic and bitter and childish, which is actually a side to him I didn’t really think would be shown until much later, so it was nice to pepper some of that in there as his secrets are uncovered.

TOMORROW’S WORK (or today’s because I’m posting this late):

on June 2nd, I have a LOT to get through — chapter six and chapter seven, both of which are quite action heavy. it’s going to show a change in both riko and llevan, which is nice, and being out a slightly softer side of a character introduced in the first book, moretti!

reminds me of: this reminds me so, so much of erzse from pre-fate’s protege! the whole song to me holds a sense of longing and loneliness and growth, and these are all things erzse endures. she’s incredibly lonely before the events of fate’s protege, with only really her brother and horse to talk to, and though she tries very hard to make friends, it doesn’t ever seem to work out that way. she’s looking for a connection in the friends she has that she lacks with them all, and it hits her hard. nonetheless, she tries her best not to let it weigh on her, and continues life as normal without letting it bother her too much, and goes out of her way to make herself lonely on purpose. this all changes in fate’s proteges when she grows closer to zira, llevan, riles and eventually domini, but this is very pre-fp erze!!

good news!! my wip introduction in DETAIL is finally here!! I've been working on this for days now, so i’m glad I can finally share it here!!

this is the masks / madness trilogy, a high fantasy superhero wip about a hero’s sidekick. the first book is already written, the second book in progress, and I want to write book three for july’s nano!

i chose to pick two songs here bc i’m in a mood to talk about the ocs, so tyvm for the ask!!

song 1: bad moon rising, mourning ritual / youtube link

reminds me of: honestly i relate this to twd since it comes from there lmao, but also can very, very easily relate it to my whole wip of fate’s protégés!! ‘bad moon’ as a concept easily refers to the prophecy moons that signify a bad time for zira and llevan, while the ominously warning mood of the song fit the eventual unhappy ending of this prequel very well!! because i daydream far too much, i can see this as an animatic in my head [that maybe one day i’ll make if i ever find the motivation to!] and it fits the heavy, gritty mood of fate’s protégés very well!

song 2: blue lips, regina spektor / youtube link

reminds me of: :’)) this song reminds me heavily of fate’s protégés’ zira, who quite literally gets the fate of the kingdom shoved on his shoulder halfway through the book. it’s such a burden to carry and eventually takes its toll on him, in the worst sort of way (no spoilers here!) but the whole repetition of “he stumbled into grace and thought ‘god is this all there is?’ is VERY fitting for him. and he quite literally gets blue lips and veins and blood with his powers, so all in all? incredibly fitting and incredibly sad.
