•monika is a very caring and maybe sightly overprotective caregiver!! she’s so happy to be your caregiver. i think she really enjoys feeling like she can look after you and keep you safe from everything <3

•treats you really small,, she’s the kind of caregiver to say, “you’re far too small to be doing something like that by yourself!” she really likes helping you out when you’re small, even if it’s just as simple as fixing a loose strand of hair or something like cooking a meal for you.

•her favorite pet names for you are baby, sweetheart, honey and little one! i think she would find it super adorable if you called her mama or moni or anything like that <3

•very very involved with you! if you’re coloring on the floor, she’ll go over next to you and start coloring her own picture! or if you’re building a pillow fort, she will help gather pillows and blankets and figure out how to position the chairs!

•monika can be a slightly strict caregiver, but only for your health!! if you look sleepy, she’ll insist on a nap (she’ll snuggle you though!!). she always makes sure that you’re eating three sufficient meals and that you have had at least some water. she doesn’t want to seem like she’s nagging! but your health is important to her.

•plays the piano for you!! she’ll play lullabies to lull you to sleep or pretty songs that make you smile. sometimes, she’ll let you sit next to her/on her lap and play something of your own. even if you’re just pressing keys or making your own melodies, she loves seeing you partake in an activity she loves!

•monika would also softly sing you songs. she loves humming a bunch of tunes for you, especially ones like “you are my sunshine” or the opening song of your favorite cartoon!

•i think she would read you a lot of poetry. she would especially read you love poems, so you know just how much she loves you! sometimes she even reads you some of her own c:

•very comforting when you’re upset. she’d wrap you into the warmest hugs, gently hushing you and promising everything would be okay. says things likes, “tell mama what’s wrong, baby” or “i’ve got you, shhh”

•loves baking with you! she would make cookies any time you asked and try to find unique recipes for things you guys could bake <3 like making your own caramel apples, or decorating your own cake!

•i imagine she’s slightly overprotective. she’ll readily glare at anyone who gives you a weird stare and trust that whoever tries to bother you won’t try it again. she has her ways, hehe...

•monika is a very sweet caregiver. she may seem a little overbearing, but she promises she just wants to make your regression as secure and happy for you as she can. she loves you so very much!

tall yuri is absolute of course. but i also think its funny to imagine that mc exaggerates her as very tall because he is short. i mean in that one hugging cg he's basically the same height as sayori so i like to think she's just like a slightly tall girl and short king is over here thinking to himself "wow... she LONG......"

Hi! Do you know any yandere games in which the MC is NOT some featureless person? Like MC actually has an appearance, that's not up to interpretation or grey? I'm tired of these visual novels with invisible MCs 😩 them having a personality would be great too!

Oof man, I understand. I personally prefer it when a character has some sort of design, but I understand why they do it. An invisible MC is easier since it means the artist doesn't have to add another character in CGs and it leaves the player able to self-insert more cleanly. Same with the grey people since it doesn't really define itself as a certain bod type or skin color- but honestly it looks really silly watching a grey blob self in CGs. But yeah, having an actual MC design would be pretty neat to see more- you and Cherry have the same thoughts on this.

That being said, most games that do have a design are either BLs or Otome games and very few are gender neutral with a set design.

Otome Games (With Renamable MCs)

Sweetest Valentine - the MC has a nice character design and a pretty interesting personality depending on which route you go for.

XOXO Blood Droplets - the MC (or JB) is very flirty with all of the guys and very forward. It's put on hiatus for now since GB Patch is working on other games currently.

What's Your Name - actually has three female MCs all with different backstories to compliment each of the love interests, though you only really see their designs at the end of the good routes.

Particles of Reality - the MC (or Monika) has a pretty tragic backstory and runs in with a couple of different yanderes.

Please Don't Hate Christmas - the MC (or Molly) has a fairly cute design, though a lot of her personality is surprised otome character, but with a twist! Future Recommendation

Otome Games (With Defined MCs)

Go Away, Yandere! - for essentially a meme, self insert train of thought game, it's actually pretty well made. Coella is amazingly great as a protagonist since they just run with whatever goes. Future Recommendation.

My Puppy Fiancee/In Search of Haru/Jime Quiet Boyfriend- these are all otome IOS games from SeeC Inc which all have pretty good female protags. Though short, each of them has at least one yandere ending which is enough to put this on this list. You can find most walkthroughs on youtube if you can't play it. Future Recommendation.

Apartment No.9/Solopolism Reigns/Dawn of the Damned- all these games are made by @melancholy-marionette, who has a huge plethera of yandere games. I did a huge summary of Solopolism Reigns here, but the other games also have defined females. Future Recommendation.

ITYH: Horror Otome/Saccharine - Amiralo has pretty good and bittersweet games overall and the female characters are always interesting to say the least.

Parasite in Love -Marlowe is placed in a pretty unfavorable situation, but in the true ending is able to use her wits to get Niall off of her case. Quite literally, in fact.

Colorful Mirai: Spooky Edition - a spin off of their other game, Lauren is pretty fun as a protagonist. None of the yanderes have any lasting impressions or do anything too detrimental to her though.

Most Japanese otomes also tend to have MCs with character designs and I think more recent yandere ones tend to have ones with more character than simply just a blank slate.

BL Games

Most BL games have a predefined character already, so I'm not going to split this into two parts.

House Check - you actually play as the yandere, Arlon, who periodically breaks into his crush Owen's house to house clean. Future Reommendation

Stuck in a Yandere Visual Novel… Help!! - comedic game where the MC gets isekaied into a yandere game he played and has to survive. One of the few on the list that has a renamable MC. I have yet to play the updated version though.

Forgive My Sins, Father/ Forgive My Desires, Father - two sides of the same coin, though only one side is the yandere.

Mistrick/Misfiction/Line88 - all created by @hatogedev, Mistrick and Misfiction's yanderes are the same character, but Line88 is a kinetic novel. Future Recommendation for that last one.

Blood and Lust and Lust for Blood - I like the character design for Dimitri, but the game is a little uh... well, it could be more polished, let's say. Future Recommendation.

Killing Kiss - mobile game, but I really like Ryu and his design. The yandere in this one only really appears in one ending though.

Gender Neutral MC/ Male or Female Selection Games

Heart Fragment - extremely well made game, and you can choose a more masculine or feminine appearance. The yandere in this one is fairly light though.

Froot Basket Dark Chocolate - this one is kind of weird because you're actually playing as the yandere but the "MC" (Jordan), can have their gender chosen and has a set design.

Picture Perfect Romance -MC does have a design, though not given a name or gender. Very surreal game, I will say.

The Things You Do for Love!! - the MC is the yandere interestingly enough and you can choose their gender, and has a cute design. Still debating if I want to do a recommendation on this one though.

Degrees of Lewdity - does this count? I mean you can customize what your MC looks like and there are up to two yandere in this game

Purrfect Apawcalypse - Olive, the main character is nonbinary so I will put them on the list, though the yandere is yandere for another character. It's a triology and very good.

I also have my own game @perfectlovevn, which has Eris, an MC with a design and strong personality as well. I'm still doing the SFX/Music assignment for it but you can see my progress as it goes.

Anyways, I hope that was able to help you. There's a butt ton of other yandere games I still need to get through on itchio, so I may find some more in the future.

I don't like DDLC'S MC very much on a very petty level but I still wish there was more fic or meta speculation about him. I'm not interested in him as a character, though, because he's barely a character. Literally by the game's standards, he has no inherent "character file." He is the SCRIPT, if anything. All of his thoughts and actions occur within the little text bubble at the bottom of the screen, and so do the characters'. He barely appears in CGs, has no body sprite, and it is through his observations and his thoughts and his call to make choices that the game progresses.

I think that specific trait of MC is fascinating, especially given how deep reaching Monika's manipulation is. During Act 1 he is active, he is talkative, he has a definitive (and yet inconsistent, based on which girl(s) you're speaking to) personality. He has thoughts about just about everything going on. And yet in Act 2 he is reduced to dust. He stops having any kind of commentary and he almost never remarks upon the horrible occurrences around him unless prompted or unless it is something that could plausibly happen in the realm of reality, like Yuri abandoning him for 10 minutes and Natsuki collapsing on him. But even then he's still significantly muted. Yuri and Natsuki have a horrible fight and the only kind of response he tries to throw out is co-opted by Monika. He witness Yuri declare her love for him and talk about how she would love to pull his skin open and crawl inside of him and the only thing he has to say is "yes" or "no" when she asks if he likes her back. And then he physically cannot move or speak or react because the world is so far gone that Yuri's death has damaged him, the script, so much that all he hears is gibberish coming from her lifeless mouth.

And like... that's neat to me. I like that by the end of Act 2 the script is so off the rails and so far gone from reality that MC can no longer really function as a person, because the script is barely functioning. He stops reacting to anything happening around him and most of the conversations he has are just the girls talking at him. Monika has to literally rewrite the script and force Yuri and Natsuki to say things to further her agenda or keep the scene rolling. MC had a clear and very human response to Sayori's death because it was a plausible but horrible (and not forced) event that could happen naturally. Yuri's death was so jarring and away from the scope of the natural order of his world that MC (and Yuri, by extension) can only sit frozen and broken until Natsuki and Monika show up to force new progress.

Like Monika's effect on the girls has been talked to death and it is an interesting topic but I also think what she unintentionally did to the POV character of the game is also something neat. It really adds to the feeling of the world in DDLC being hollow. The MC is a half-character who can only react in incredibly predictable ways, and when the world stops being predictable, he stops being anything more than a walking camera for Monika to speak into.

#ddlc #this isnt even really a character analysis this is just my vague jumbled thoughts on this guy #ive always found mc interesting even if he irritates me #when i was bored and a middle schooler i used to imagine this self insert of mine in his place #what choices would she make if she knew the ddlc world was a farce? what choices would she make if she didnt?#would she be beholden to the game structure and choices written in the game's script?#could she change anything? how would she feel if she knew the girls in a context where they were her normal friends?#these scenarios were of course some random shit i thought about to make PE less awful #but it made me think of how horrible and strange it would be in mc's position #and subsequently how mc himself kind of never gets the chance to BE in his own position in a way #he is fully beholden to the whims of monika and whatever the girls around him are doing at all times in act 2 #even in act 1 his personality and motivations fluctuates constantly depending on which girl u are talking to #mc is the script and the script is mc. he never had a chance to change anything and neither did you #the only way you can do anything in that world is to be a character a .chr a person. and mc is not a person in any meaningful sense #on the topic of 'hey wouldnt it be fucked up to actually experience ddlc as a Thinking Person'#'to your eternity' (anonymous author) on ao3 specifically chapter 1 of it is a cool fic based on that thought #anyways. i know mc mostly just shuts up because it would be lame if every time yuri's eyes bug out he's like 'jeepers creepers!!!'#but i think his dwindling presence makes him an interesting non-character ❤️#doki doki literature club

But, no, you're too curious to let the noise go. 'Tis the curse of Genshin players; they're incredibly easy to sidetrack.

So you follow the noise. Up the stairs. To your room.

You open the door.

"Hello again." Aoi Mukou says. "Aoi missed YOU."

'WHAT IN THY FUCKETH--'

So. Okay. Aoi. M'kay.

"...I didn't expect to see you again." and really, how could you have.

"Aoi isn't surprised; Aoi also didn't expect to see YOU again. But..."

She smiles at you. "It's nice to see YOU again. Ehehe~"

Aoi's code had been modified so that, instead of CGs and zappy time, it was Archive entires.

Which now boils down to her reading the Archive on your newly made bed.

Can it get worse?

The door opened behind you, and Miyuki Sone walked through holding her bat.

"Haaaah... hello again," she smiled at you, the grin manical. "I missed YOU."

Monika and Sayori meeting with you in Mondstadt... and all four meeting.

Oh, the latter are fuming, and so are the Acolytes. They've... had intercourse with you?!

Cue you getting PTSD from Miyuki's famous scene.

You shivered from that.

Aoi gets a pass. She's cute.

Beyond that though it's... actually nice?

They don't see you as a deity, and you're infinity grateful for that.

But still, remember one thing:

They can, at any time, rewrite the code. It's their bitch now.
