Tintin Through the Decades: A Timeless Legacy
Tumblr media
Watch Now
Tintin, the adventurous young reporter with a shock of ginger hair and his faithful terrier Snowy, has captivated readers for nearly a century. But who is the mind behind this iconic cartoon, and how have Tintin's escapades unfolded year by year?
The Early Adventures (1929-1939):
The story of Tintin begins in 1929 with Belgian cartoonist Georges Remi, better known by his pen name Hergé. Hergé's first adventure for Tintin, "Tintin in the Land of the Soviets," appeared in the children's supplement of the Belgian newspaper Le Vingtième Siècle. These early adventures, while showcasing Tintin's bravery and sense of justice, reflected the political climate of the time and have been criticized for their colonialist undertones.
World War II and Beyond (1940-1945):
World War II forced a change in publication. Tintin's adventures continued in the Belgian newspaper Le Soir, which was under German control. This period is considered a low point for the series, with some storylines reflecting Nazi propaganda. However, after the war, Hergé regained creative control.
The Golden Age (1946-1976):
Following the war, Tintin truly found his stride. Hergé launched his own weekly magazine, Le Journal de Tintin, in 1946. This period is considered the series' golden age, with Tintin embarking on meticulously researched adventures that spanned the globe. From the opium dens of Shanghai in "Cigars of the Pharaoh" (1934) to the snowy wastes of Tibet in "Tintin in Tibet" (1960), Tintin championed the underdog and tackled social issues with a newfound sensitivity.
Later Years and Legacy (1976-Present):
Hergé continued to create Tintin adventures until his death in 1983. The final completed story, "Tintin and Alph-Art" (1986), was a more introspective tale. Despite its incomplete nature, Tintin's legacy endured. The series has been translated into over 100 languages, with millions of copies sold worldwide. Tintin has been adapted for television, film, and even theatre, continuing to inspire new generations of adventurers.
So, next time you see Tintin and Snowy facing danger with unwavering courage, remember the rich history behind them. Tintin's adventures are a testament to the power of storytelling and a reminder that a young reporter with a keen sense of justice can truly make a difference in the world.

A Future Return For O.W.C.A. Files? (Discussion):
Tumblr media
A frame from the OWCA Files theme song sequence.
O.W.C.A Files is a 1 hour special that premiered on Disney XD November 9, 2015 a while after Phineas And Ferb’s “final” episode.
It was one of the possible spin-offs the creators thought about doing, but it didn’t really go anywhere. It followed the B-plot characters post Doofenshmirtz turning good which is a smart idea for a spin-off since most people tended to like the B-part of the story better while more were bored with the A-plot.
However, among the fanbase it is a pretty controversial episode. Some complaints are that Doofenshmirtz is too annoying in the episode, the character design isn’t great, animation is mediocre, the pacing isn’t good, and the existence of the “Bits of All Of Us” song which some found very pre-school-like.
Tumblr media
It definitely could have used Norm or Vanessa to balance out the absence of another talking being while also toning down Doof’s annoying-ness over the course of a series, but I still think it was a pretty solid episode with other Phineas And Ferb level songs and shows the Doof n’ Perry action packed secret agent show spin-off that could have been.
Other spin-offs like a Fireside Girls one and Doof 101 were also contemplated, but out of many different show pitches, Milo Murphy’s Law would ultimately become the next show Dan and Swampy would work on instead, as well as the next Dwampyverse show.
Tumblr media
But could O.W.C.A. Files still be?
Before the revival was announced the creators have always talked about how they might one day revisit the show in “the next summer”.
Since it’s starting to look more and more like the Phineas And Ferb Revival will take place in the next summer while also visiting other episodes of the characters in the future it is possible that we could see an O.W.C.A. Files like B-Plot in a future episode once again, especially since Doofenshmirtz might likely be good after he turned good in the Season 4 Finale and after the events of Milo Murphy’s Law.

Doof does return to evil in the timeline though.
When it comes to the episodes that Doof is still evil in, but take place after the events of the Summer, (the Christmas and New Years specials/ etc.), Co-Creator Dan Povenmire’s explanation was that sometime after the events of Doof 101 (the fall after the summer) and before or after OWCA Files (I forget) Doof relapsed to an evil phase again which is believable, but after the events of Milo Murphy’s Law where his new, less evil, destiny is revealed it is less likely the creators will want to make him evil again unless they decide to switch of the Dwampyverse timeline once again🫠.

Milo Murphy’s Law and O.W.C.A. files both proved the B-Plot does not rely on Doofenshmirtz to be evil for entertainment. Not to mention some of the most memorable moments of the B-plot in the series have Doof being pretty tame and actually working together with Perry to accomplish a task.
However, it still seems unclear whether the crew or executives will decide to make him evil again or not in order to capture the same charm of the original show. We’ll just have to wait for the next announcement of new details soon.
Overall, it’s probably about a 50/50 chance whether the B-Plot will be an O.W.C.A. Files like Doof n Perry duo fighting evil, or not.
Even if nothing like that appears in the revival, Povenmire did sign a deal with Disney to make additional shows for the Disney Channel, including properties for the Dwampyverse, which means something like O.W.C.A. Files could still be on the table as a future show.
Tumblr media
How do you think they will handle the show?
Also, feel free to point out any details in the essay that should be changed.

TF Armada Alexis’s Full Name
Full disclaimer out of the way, I’ve never watched Armada. I plan to though. Also, pull up a chair. This is another long one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some of you know her. Some of you know a specific version of her. Whether it’s Alexis/Alexa from the anime, Alexis Garner from @itsthelass ‘s fic, Faeformers, your own, etc. During the time of the show’s run, she wasn’t given an official last name until this Almanac came out. 2010 vs. 2002 difference. Her full name is Alexis Thi Dang, confirming she’s Vietnamese. We don’t know she is full Vietnamese or half Vietnamese or what. Her design isn’t helpful.
I’ll accept Vietnamese American girls with brown hair. That were a few of my classmates in elementary school and almost every auntie I see. (Years are VERY off, but you get the point.) Good times. I don’t understand her green eyes though. Green eyes are less common than blue eyes, but genetics tend not to apply in anime/cartoons. (See Marinette’s blue eyes from the Miraculous Ladybug show. Also the fact, how Japanese characters look in anime compared to non-Japanese characters or real life Japanese people) I don’t know what eye colors her parents have, but if the green is natural, she must be at least a quarter Vietnamese. I think? I’m not doing math right now. Unless it’s a genetic mutation, but I don’t know how to tackle that. Yes, I know it’s possible for Vietnamese girls to have blue eyes. However, Google gave me one result of a Vietnamese girl with natural blue eyes, but she is one of the mountain people (ethnic minority). I should know the word for them, but I took Viet 1 some four years ago and forgotten. Other than that, all I have as evidence is this one girl I saw at my high school who has striking blue eyes and can never tell if it’s natural or not. I should’ve asked her, but her fluency and mien bac accent scared me.
I’m suspecting her green eyes are contact lenses, with prescription or not. It could be a headcanon for a fic. Do what you like with it. I edited some pictures of her with different colors below. Just to see how it’ll turn out.
You might be wondering why I’m even starting this discussion in the first place. “She’s from an old anime, don’t make a fuss.” “It’s just the color choice of the designers, whatever.” Yeah, but you know how excited I was when I read her last name? The fact I got a smidge of representation, even if it’s more Word of God than canon? The only other Asian humans we got are Sari Sumdac (kinda? Techno-organic?), Isaac Sumdac, and Miko Nakadai. There might be more I’m missing; feel free to let me know.
So where I going with all this nonsense? I want Alexis to showcase more of her Vietnamese culture.
Yeah, I know. Awful of me. Again, I’m giddy she’s Vietnamese. I know it’s impossible to show any of the Vietnamese stuff since the anime’s long over and almost nobody knows she’s Vietnamese. All I’m asking is a fanfic where it’s shown. It can be small or big. You know what, draw her in an ao dai or something. Have her eat banh cuon. I guess I should write my own things too. “If you can’t find it, make it yourself” sort of feelings.

Animation World's September 1997 issue had Sam & Max on the cover, and talked about the upcoming cartoon at several points (such as the program used for the show, Animo). It also asked Steve Purcell what ten films he'd take with him if stranded on a deserted island.
The pages mentioning Sam and Max are under the read more, if you wanna see the whole magazine PDF yourself you can see it here.

Today, The LA Times released an article/interview with the man himself; sharing his thoughts n' processes on looking back at the og show, the movie, the reboot, the FAILED reboot and the idea of the PPG in general. I'll say, the interview is telling, and really captures how Craig really loves the girls as his own and his craft of the PPG world as a whole
And I think it's worth the read 🥹
Oh, wow, I didn’t see your ask until after I posted about it! Guess we were on the same wavelength.

Hit by an Indictment
* * * *
Chris Christie is moving in the polls while Pence, Haley and Hutchinson remain stuck in the political equivalent of a vegetative state. DeSantis remains in second position, but his trajectory has been a plummet that would track Felix Baumgartner’s descent line.
Felix Baumgartner jumped to Earth from a helium balloon from the stratosphere in 2012 and landed in New Mexico, as part of the Red Bull Stratos project.
Senator Tim Scott will be the chief beneficiary of further attrition by DeSantis. He is primed to move up into a competitive space. It will put him in direct competition with DeSantis in the early fall period of the campaign, which will preface the long turn towards the early primary states — and the grueling competition that will follow.
Timing is an under-appreciated force in a presidential campaign. The candidate and the moment have to align for there to be a possibility of capturing the White House.  Chris Christie would have been the GOP nominee in 2012 had he gone for it, but he hesitated. He was an also-ran in 2016, and has been written off by the familiar pundits who are almost always wrong about everything. Christie has moved first in the primary race, filling the truth-telling, anti-Trump space. How he got there will be a constant drag on his campaign, and is a fundamental design flaw of his own creation. Yet, Christie’s burdens are significantly less than his competitors of which he is, by far, the most talented in every category that matters in the endurance race that is a presidential campaign.
Donald Trump has become a ratings kiss of death as evidenced by the low ratings associated with the events produced for him by networks like CNN. Trump isn’t the star he once was. He has faded away into the leading actor in an ensemble of weakness, cowardice, perfidy and Chris Christie. There is no drama in the race whatsoever beyond the looming confrontation between Chris Christie and Donald Trump in the coming debates. Should Chris Christie have done what he is about to do many years ago? Yes, he should have. The important thing is that he is doing it now, and it is not too late. Other candidates who have long trembled in front of Trump are making their first tepid criticisms of the man who was untouchable just weeks ago.
Trump will be a man running in cement over the months ahead. His indictments and investigations will glue him to the ground. The wheels of justice grind slowly, as they say. His bill has come due. Trump is deflating in real time.
Christie was too early in 2012 and too late in 2016.  It is a mistake to write him off for the GOP nomination. He has an experienced team of pragmatic advisors who are smart, sane and strategic. None of them are under any illusions about Christie’s substantial deficits. However, none are blinded to his substantial attributes that are missed by the punditocracy.
There is another dynamic that is building within the 2024 campaign. The American people aren’t keen on a Biden-Trump rematch.
Think about the toddler game where a board contains cutouts in different shapes that match differently shaped blocks. The political system is currently offering a square hole to a country looking for a round one. What will happen as that block is banged over and over again into the wood board? It will start to crack.
Already there are some fissures showing. The nascent Biden campaign will enter the summer facing an opponent who is polling between 15 and 20%. The strategy of pretending he doesn’t exist will crack in early autumn as Robert Kennedy Jr. climbs in the polls towards 30% and early victories in Iowa and New Hampshire. The insistence that these states won’t count in the Democratic primaries by party officials in Washington, DC, is delusional. Losses by an incumbent president under any circumstances would be catastrophic politically. Keep an eye on the filing deadlines in the fall. The chances that the race is settled go down every day. Gavin Newsom is playing his role in the great game near perfectly. His sparring with Sean Hannity showed he is ready for prime time. He represents youth, renewal, and a Democratic Party that can confidently communicate about the dangers of an extremist movement the country is facing.
The political race will lock in place between July 4th and Labor Day. After that, it will move quickly and promises to be as volatile as any race has been in recent memory. Anything can happen. Buckle up!
[Off to the races]

Bonus:

Obviously I bought it! The collar is Slightly odd with a stitch down the center, like a very shallow V Neck, and it’s quite big on me lol, but it’s very workable! And so soft, like you wouldn’t believe. Very comfy!
Also, pretty sure I’ve talked about this before, but here’s a refresher: I always pick up any Lalaloopsy from any second-hand shop I find them in, being out of production and so inexpensive and so cute - I’m a casual collector ♥ I never expect to see them, so I’m always so excited when they’re there! I actually managed to get three this time, not only with their original clothes, but also their shoes! (Why are they always missing their shoes?) And you’ll never guess which ones, what they were wearing:

It’s Rain E. and Storm E., with their black and white striped shirts!
