Could you write a one shot where there is a really bad storm hitting Seattle. Maya and Carina are stuck at the hospital and the fire station, and are trying but unsuccessful at reaching Reader. So they are both worried out of their minds. Then Maya has to go out on a call and find it was R who wrecked their car trying to get home before the storm hit. (Could be severe or non-severe injuries) R goes to the hospital with Maya in the aid car and Carina joins them in the ER.

Authors note: I heard the song "What the water gave me - Florence + The Machine" while writing this story. I would advise you to listen to the song as well while reading through this story to get the feel of a real Station 19 rescue mission like in the series. Of course it's not a must! ♥
ᕚ---ᕘ
The sky over Seattle steadily darkened as pitch-black thunderclouds rolled in like a tidal wave. The wind began to howl as if playing its own somber tune, rushing restlessly through the skyscrapers of the city. Streets were quickly emptied as people rushed home for shelter. The trees bent under the force of the storm as if begging for mercy, but the storm was relentless. It thundered as if Zeus himself wanted to keep the crowds in their place while the rain fell in thick, large drops and threatened to drown Seattle. The sound of the wind, the falling of the rain and the thunder symphoned in a unique melody and conveyed a frightening atmosphere.
The telephones of the active fire brigade beeped in unison, a warning of the approaching storm that came in way too late. The tough captain of the fire department swallowed hard as she could not reach you, who worked just a few minutes away from her. But you did not answer, the connection was already disrupted, appearing to be off. "She wanted to be here fifteen minutes ago, Carina," both her and the brunette's worries grew with every minute through the phone as they imagined the worst possible scenarios without having any sign of life from you.
"Calm down, Bambina. There is probably total chaos on the streets. Fallen trees, flooding. Maybe she is just stuck in a traffic jam or an emergency came in."
The fire station was flooded with red alarm lights, while the walls shook from violent gusts of wind, preventing the young blonde from speaking further. Raindrops pelted against the roller shutter door, which opened more with every second, allowing the lightning strikes to break through their vision. -Fire engines 19 and 23. Ambulance 19 to Cedar Road Lane 6. Car struck by tree, person seriously injured and trapped.-
The firefighters rushed around, donning their suits and gear before grabbing their helmets. Like-minded, they rushed to the waiting vehicles, only Maya stopped briefly. „Please let me know if you hear anything from her. Stai attenta, bambina!" (Be careful, bambina!). She nodded, knowing that Carina could not see the gesture and hung up before hopping into the squad cars and starting the sirens. Pressing the accelerator, they raced through the whirlwind around them, trying to avoid the tree branches as much as possible.
Lightning flashed across the dangerous-looking sky, and thunder rolled at the same time like an angry demon. Maya clung to the steering wheel as she tried to keep her eyes on the wet, blurry road. They made their way through the flooded streets, branches flying through the air and trash cans tipping over and spilling across the sidewalk.
It was as if the world around her was collapsing in a chaotic dance of wind and water. "Listen guys, I know you want to help the person in the car, but first and foremost, think about your health and your life," the storm roared so loudly that it seemed like it wanted to tear the entire city apart and hardly anyone understood what the captain was saying over the radio. "This is one of the worst storms in years, a state of emergency has been declared and normally no one should be on the roads, so it is a mystery to me why anyone would be so dumb to be driving,"
Her team was clearly tense, the radios crackling in their ears, but they nodded to the captain as confirmation that they had understood the message. Maya did not want to lose any man or woman in her group to the storm. "We are approaching the scene of the accident. Be ready for anything, people. We can do this!" she said calmly and encouragingly while the fire engine´s sirens blared through the dark night.
When the team from Station 19 arrived at the scene of the accident, they were confronted with a dark and serious scene. The car is crammed in by a huge tree and is badly deformed, the hood of which is completely smashed and dented while some branches have pierced through the windshield and turned the interior of the vehicle into a field of rubble.
The fire team jumped out of the emergency vehicles and fought through the wind and rain to reach the car. But the captain remains rooted to the spot in front of the stern of the wreck, looking absentmindedly at the license plate, which was hanging askew. "Y/n.. IT IS Y/N!" she shouted unhindered amid the raging and deafening thunder and her team stopped their tasks in shock, Andy and Gibson focusing their gaze from the thick tree over to the woman in the driver's seat, who Warren was already trying to find vital signs on.
Maya lunged forward, her heart pounding with worry. Her helmet was almost blown away by the wind as she stepped closer, the flashlight shaking in her hand as she shone the light through the shattered window. Her heart seemed to skip a beat as she recognized the familiar features amid the devastation. She was confirmed that she did not have a number twist on the license plate, but that it really was you. Seriously injured and trapped in the car. “Y/n!” she cried, her voice filled with a terror she had never known before. Maya knew she had to stay calm now, that she had to be the professional captain, but her heart was screaming with fear and worry.
The other members of the fire department worked quickly and precisely. "Dean, Montgomery. Grab the hydraulic cutters! We need to get her out of here as quickly as possible. Her vital signs are at risk of plummeting!" shouted Warren. They used cutting tools to fight against the metal of the car on the passenger side and the resistance of the tree while Maya knelt next to the wreckage and held your hand, which was probably thrown out of the broken window after the impact and was now lying on the scratched paint of the outer door. "It looks bad in there! Be careful not to hurt her any further, approach carefully!"
Your eyes were dazed with pain and fear, but you were breathing, albeit weakly. Hearing her voice, you seemed to find some peace for a moment, your dull eyes glued to hers. Desperately wanting to say something, you opened your mouth from which blood began to ooze, but your crushed and injured lungs did not even let in air.
"Hold on, darling. Do not say anything, I am here. We will get you out of there, I promise." The blonde whispered, her voice firm to reassure you even as her own thoughts were caught in a chaos of worry and despair. The minutes stretched endlessly as her team struggled to bend the metal and free their captain's fiancée. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the metal gave way. Using their combined strength, Vic and Warren pulled you from the wreckage, carefully, yet as quickly as possible. As soon as they freed you, they carried you to the ambulance. Maya followed them, never taking her eyes off you. Your condition was serious, but you were still clinging to life. "Carina is coming. She is going to be at the hospital, she will be by your side the second you get there. But you have to fight now, okay? Fight for us."
The rain continued to beat down on you, the storm was still raging, but in the midst of this darkness and chaos there was a glimmer of hope- you were saved, and she would do anything now to help you fight through this storm. But it was hard to keep positive thoughts as the storm continued to sing its destructive song. She closed her eyes tightly as she rode in the ambulance and prayed, with your bloodstained hand in hers, that the next morning would bring a certain light to your health.

Hello Nurse
Tumblr media
Title: Hello Nurse
Pairing: Carina DeLuca x Reader
Prompt: 34. "I'm afraid I can no longer remain professional."
R
WC: 516
Y/n huffed as she thumbed through the charts for that rotation. There had been a few changes at the hospital, and since then, none of the night shift nurses had been doing all of their duties. Y/n was really starting to get sick and tired of having to rush around and make sure that the charts were all updated. It wasn't like there was a big emergency that took everybody away from their finishing duties at the end of their shifts. Even then, the hospital had more than enough people staffed to take care of that. Grey Sloan was hailed as one of the best hospitals in the country because they were on top o their shit. Whoever had taken over as shift leader was not doing a very good job of making sure that they kept that reputation. \\"You have an admirer," Hazel, one of the other nurses, teased. Y/n rolled her eyes as she continued to look over the charts for the day. "Good morning Dr. Deluca."
"Good morning Hazel. Good morning Y/n," Carina said as she leaned down right in front of Y/n. Carina placed her hand on top of the chart Y/n had been reading from just to make sure that Y/n was paying attention to her. "Is that a new lanyard?"
"No, it's the same one I've had since before you started here. Also, my eyes are up here Dr. Deluca," Y/n teased. Carina blushed as she looked away from Y/n. Hazel groaned as she moved away from the two of them. It was no secret that Carina and Y/n were attracted to each other, but the big mystery was why neither of them ever did anything about it. Amelia and countless others had tried to hook them up together, but it hadn't really ever amounted to much more than awkward small talk while they sipped on coffees together.
"Oh, you caught me." Carina leaned against the palm of her hand as she looked up at Y/n. Y/n pretended that Carina wasn't just staring at her while she tried to work, but it was getting pretty difficult. Keeping her eyes on her work was difficult with Carina standing right there in front of her.
"You have got to leave," Y/n told her. Carina pouted, but started to stand up slowly. "I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I can no longer remain professional."
"Maybe I don't want you to be professional," Carina countered. Y/n sighed as she looked at her. There was way too much work for Y/n to do, and so, Carina had to leave. "Do you think that maybe later you'll have time to be unprofessional with me?"
"On-call room after rounds?" Y/n offered. Carina's eyes widened a little bit and she perked up.
"I'll see you there." Carina darted around the corner as Y/n turned back to her chart.
"That was the two of you being professional?" Hazel questioned, earning a glare and light kick to the shin. "Ow, you know I'm right."

when the moon shines through those parting clouds (2673 words) by l_grace_b Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: Station 19 (TV) Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Maya Bishop/Carina DeLuca Characters: Maya Bishop, Carina DeLuca, Liam Bishop-DeLuca Additional Tags: Episode continuation, Missing Scene, Hurt/Comfort, character introspection, moms!Marina have me in a chokehold Series: Part 4 of Season 7 one-shots Summary: Maya reflects on motherhood. // A 7.04 continuation
~*~*~
As Maya stormed down the block, coat whipping around her, she could hear Diane in her head.
"You aren't running from your wife…you're running from what becoming a mother -- rather suddenly, I might add -- is bringing up for you. Your fear of abandonment. Your fear of passing on what was done to you. Fear of doing to Liam what was done to you. A desire to protect Liam from the dangers of the world, some of which came too close to home when you saw your brother at the parade. You're actually facing the reality of the danger you put yourself in every day."
Maya kicked at an errant pine cone in frustration, furious at its audacity to be in her pathway. She watched it bounce into the road.
Diane was so full of shit.
And she was also so right.
She stopped at a crosswalk, contemplating where to go. She was still learning the neighborhood. She had driven through dozens of times in her tenure at 19. It was a different view from down low; when her blood wasn't spiked with adrenaline.
It was a cute area, with plenty of ranch-style homes and a few craftsmans, all with yards and dogs and SUVs and either a miniature soccer goal or a basketball hoop in the front. She knew of a park a few blocks to the west; she wanted to take Liam there to walk around when the weather finally warmed up.
The moon gleamed brightly above her -- full and voluminous. Out in the open, it was actually kind of pretty. She often saw it through smoke, through the window of the engine, the skylights of the barn as they backed the trucks in after a call.
In the distance, she could hear a siren.
She wondered, briefly, how the night was going for the crew.
At work, it was an omen and magnet for the unusual -- A call where they ended up uncovering a whole family of raccoons hiding in someone's attic; a crashed charter bus carrying the University of Washington's Husky band, where the director was less worried about the minor injuries of his students than he was about the damaged sousaphones and snare drums.
Weird shit always happens on a full moon.
No wonder she and Carina fought. That Liam wasn't sleeping.
Diane's voice chimed in to refute almost immediately.
"This didn't happen because of the full moon. It happened because you have a new baby and you're in a new house and you're maneuvering those changes."
The voices of reason in her head had changed over time. Her father, for years, barking at her to be better, work harder, to always win.
Eyes forward.
Occasionally, it was her own. Or Andy's. Carina's was most prominent.
Lately, though, Diane started to sneak in. Calm and firm and loving and honest and little tolerance for bullshit, at times making her flinch, but not want to run away.
The siren changed tone. Or maybe it was one of the neighborhood cats she saw on her morning runs.
It sounded like a baby's cry.
Her heart rate spiked, her breathing shallowed.
Liam needs you.

New one-shot went up last night. Enjoy!

Summary: Maya and Carina have a second date right after their first one.
A/N: Well, it has been a while and yes, as always I have been going through a lot of stuff. But, I wanted to put this forward as I was enamored by last night's episode. I hope you like it.
_____________________________________________
After talking to Andy about the photos, and calming her friend down enough to know she wouldn't do anything rash, she returned to her bunk. Now that the photos were out of her mind, all she could think about was Carina.
She closed her eyes and the feeling of her wife's lips on hers returned. She smiled from ear to ear as she replayed that kiss in her mind again.
She gently ran her fingers over her lips. That kiss was amazing. So much better than their first one. It was everything she had hoped it would be, but it was so much more. The first time they kissed, they were strangers. They had just met.
But, this time, the woman she was kissing was the love of her life. She was her wife. So, the kiss was familiar. But the sensation also felt new. As if just like their relationship, they were also exploring physical intimacy from the very start.
She couldn't stop thinking about Carina. So, when her phone chimed with a notification, she moved faster than she ever had to reach it.
“I had the greatest time today, Bambina. I hope we can do this again.”
She called her wife instead of replying and it was answered before the first ring.
“Hey.”
“Hey.”
Both of them were silent after that. They were both listening to each other through the receiver. Maya touched her screen softly, just to feel closer to Carina, and she gently cleared her throat.
“Where are you, Dr. DeLuca?”
She asked and she could feel Carina smiling at that name.
“I am sitting in my car, in the station parking lot.”
Maya shot up on her bed, now worried.
“Why? Are you okay?”
“There is this firefighter in the station, Hot, blonde, muscles for days. You may have seen her around. I kissed her today and I can't seem to shake off the giddy feeling.”
“I might know who you are talking about and if I didn't know any better I would say you have a crush on that firefighter or something.”
They both chuckled at the mention of the conversation Carina has had with Vic a few days earlier.
“What if I do?”
Carina replied and Maya held her breath. She didn't want to cross any boundaries, and she didn't want to invade Carina's space, but she did want to let her wife know how much that thought excited her.
“I think she will be honored. She  will tell you that your crush is just as fiercely reciprocated, and she will ask you to come back inside so that both of you can see the stars from the roof of the fire station.”
She knew Carina was biting her lower lip, thinking about the answer.
“If I come in, do I get hot chocolate?”
“Anything for you, Dr. DeLuca.”
“Do you have little marshmallows?”
“As a matter of fact, we do.”
“I would love to watch the stars with you, Bambina.”
“Don't get out of your car, please. I will come out to get you.”
Maya goes through the station and reaches the door of the familiar car leaning down. Carina looked at her with a smile plastered on her face.
She never realized how much she missed that carefree, somewhat flirty smile till she couldn't witness it every day she woke up, till it didn't greet her every time they looked at each other.
“Are you ready for date number two, Dr. DeLuca?”
The Italian nodded enthusiastically unlocking the car door. The lieutenant offered her a hand and she could see just a moment of hesitation on Carina's face before she entangled their fingers.
“Lead the way, Lieutenant Bishop.”
She smiled and pulled Carina along. They first went to the kitchen and she let go of Carina's hand reluctantly to make her the promised hot chocolate. The next few minutes were spent looking through the kitchen for all the ingredients for a hot chocolate.
Carina hopped on the counter as Maya started making the hot chocolate. She could see the gears in Maya's mind running at about a hundred miles an hour.
“What is going on Maya?”
She asked and Maya snapped her head up, looking at her favorite brown orbs staring at her with worry.
“Nothing. I just… I am just thinking about what is going to happen when we talk to the Chief tomorrow.”
Carina pulled Maya close by her hand and put one of her hands on her cheek. Maya leaned in the touch, savoring it.
“It's going to be fine, Bambina, and even if it's not, we will get through it. Okay?”
The use of we brought tears to Maya's eyes. She took a deep breath in and placed her softly over Carina's that was still on her cheek. She gently held onto the brunette's fingers and kissed their tip.
“We will.”
She promised and placed another kiss on Carina's palm before letting go of her hand to focus on the task at hand.
They were conversing, smiling, and just enjoying each other's company when they were interrupted by Vic.
“Ohhhh is that the fancy hot chocolate? Can I get some? Please?”
She pleaded and before Maya could say anything, Carina nodded her head. Maya looked at her surprised and she shrugged.
“We'll share.”
As soon as the hot chocolate was done, Maya poured it into two mugs, putting some marshmallows in both. Carina picked up one of the mugs and said bye to Vic before she got out of the kitchen.
“You are going amazing, Bishop.”
Vic said, taking a sip of the hot chocolate, and Maya chuckled.
“Thank you.”
She said genuinely and hopped up the stairs to catch up with her date for the night. Carina was waiting for her at the top of the stairs.
As soon as they stepped on the roof, it reminded her of the last time they were there. She could feel Carina's fingers tensing in hers as well. She slightly increased the pressure in her grip, in case Carina decided to leave her for good, in case she realized she deserved way better than the chaos that she caused.
They both looked at each other. They had always been good at communicating without words. But, right now none of them could sense the storms raging inside each other's hearts.
“I am so sorry.”
It was Maya who broke the silence.
“I know I sound like a broken record by now. But, I am. I am sorry that I made you feel like you cannot trust me, I am sorry that you have to think twice before holding my hand, I am sorry that nothing I will do in this lifetime will ever absolve me from what I have done to you.
I know I have been trying to win you back. But, today, I want you to know that I will let you go. If you want to leave me, I will let you go. You deserve someone so much better than me.”
Maya's hand still had a strong grip on Carina's. But, she wasn't looking at her anymore. Her eyes were now focused on the moon in front of her. She could see it blurred out from the curtain of her tears. She was waiting for Carina to leave, to take the offer when she was engulfed in a strong hug.
The hug almost threw her off balance, but she managed to stay afoot and realized that her beautiful wife was holding her with everything she had in her.
“I don't want to leave, Bambina. I never did. Even during our darkest times, the thought of never being with you again, never feeling your arms around me, has only brought me immense pain. I know we have a lot to work on, but I do not want an out. I want you. I need you, Maya. I cannot… Please don't leave me.”
Maya could feel the sheer force in her wife's grip on her. She felt her shirt getting soaked with her tears. As if she feared that if she let go, Maya would disappear. Her grip on her wife instinctively tightened.
“I am not leaving, ever. I am here.”
She whispered assurances in her wife's ears as she gently caressed her hair. She settled on one of the benches as Carina held onto her tightly. She was still gently stroking the doctor's back as Carina finally stopped sniffing, and looked up.
“I am sorry for being such a mess.”
She said, her voice hoarse. Maya softly wiped the tears off her cheeks and softly kissed her shoulder.
“You have nothing to be sorry for.”
Carina was now a bit calmer and she reached for her mug of hot chocolate.
“Our hot chocolate is now lukewarm chocolate, Bambina.”
She said with a cute pout on her face.
“Well, we can always make more.”
She smiled widely and took a sip before passing the mug to Maya.
Both of them knew they had a long way to go. They knew they had a long road ahead. Very hectic jobs to go back to, and very hard decisions to make.
But right there, in each other's arms, sharing hot chocolate, it felt like time stopped. For a few moments, it felt as if nothing and no one else existed in the world other than those two.
“We are going to be okay.”
Maya mumbled softly and Carina tightened her grip on Maya's neck, snuggling closer.
“We are.”

…………………………………………………………………
Of course, Jo was avoiding Arizona.
The second Jo heard that she would be visiting she planned accordingly. Arizona was there to teach the interns about the work at the Robbins-Herman Foundation, and both Surgery and OB residents and interns were required to attend. Carina thought she would be excited, as she was excited to see Arizona, but Jo wasn't.
Therefore, she was unable to escape it, even by trying to fake an emergency. Arizona wanted her up front to help her present and Jo did her best at trying to remain back especially as she and Carina talked. She ultimately ran away the second the presentation was done, avoiding all small talk with Arizona.
She had strategically stacked her schedule with a general surgery she knew was outside of Arizona's specialty.
She didn't want to see Arizona, she didn't want to talk to her, to hear the word she would say, she didn't even want to think of her being in the building. Until Melina went into labor.
Jo had promised Melina she'd be there to deliver her daughter as she had a cleft palate. She worked really hard to get a report with her and get her to trust her and the hospital. Melina's previous baby had died because of a medical error and up until her baby had been diagnosed with a cleft palate she had refused to deliver in a hospital.
So Jo of course stepped in the second Melina was in labor.
“You're doing great Melina, just a couple more pushes and your baby is going to be in your arms,” Jo said to her as she sat between Melina's legs. The head had been peeking out and Jo was ready to catch the baby.
“I want to feel her head, I want to know she’s okay,” Melina said, reaching forward as her husband held her up, and Jo took her hand and guided her down to feel her baby’s head.
“She’s got a lot of hair, can you feel it?” Jo asked her as she smiled.
“I can feel it,” Melina said as she cried with happiness.
“Okay, push, push,” Jo said as Melina pushed and the head was delivered. “Okay Melina, just give me a second, pause and breathe.”
“You're doing so good, my love,” her husband said as he focused on her, holding her up and as he leaned in and whispered words of encouragement to her.
Jo assessed the baby's cleft palate, as she cleared their airway. It didn’t look as bad.
“Okay, I have to push again,” Melina said as she felt another contraction coming.
“Okay push, push, and your baby's going to be here,” Jo promised her as Melina pushed and out popped and Jo caught the beautiful baby.
They let out a cry, as Jo held them up for Melina and her husband to see. Melina cried with happiness as her husband stood there in awe.
“It’s a happy and strong girl,” Jo said as she placed the baby on their chest as Melina held her baby.
“She's beautiful,” Melina cried as she cradled her baby. “Dr. Wilson, her cleft isn't that bad is it?”
“Let’s take a look, Jo said as she waited for Melina to hand the baby over.
She did reluctantly and watched intently as Jo took the baby girl over to the baby warmer. Jo suctioned her mouth as the baby cried and grabbed her flashlight. She looked in the baby’s mouth and lip to see the palate and couldn't stop herself from letting out a breath as she saw the large open cleft palate. The entire roof of their mouth was gone.
“Let's page the on-call pediatrician,” Jo said as the nurse next to her nodded and one of the other nurses ran out.
“Alright, I'm just going to take the baby to get them measured and weighed,” Jo said, turning back to give Melina a small smile.
“What do we have?” Arizona's voice shocked her and Jo nearly jumped back.
She didn't say anything as one of the nurses explained the case to Arizona as she assessed the baby. Jo stepped back and looked over at Melina.
“I have to push again.”
“Okay, let’s deliver the placenta.”
“What about my baby?”
“She’s got a severe cleft palate, but Dr. Robbins is the best pediatric surgeon I know, she’s in good hands.”
While she let Arizona focus on the baby, everything was in slow motion as she helped Melina. Jo listened to Arizona as she treated the baby giving her an assessment and before the baby calmed. Jo disposed of the placenta and Melina’s bleeding was under control as Arizona placed the baby back in Melina's arms.
She said a lot of things about the cleft lip and palate and her plan for the baby, but she also reassured them that they still had a happy healthy baby.
“You're lucky Dr. Wilson is one of the best.” Jo was quick to catch this Arizona as beamed over at her, but she could only manage a forced smile and a nod in agreement.
“I'll leave you two to get to know your baby,” Jo said as she quickly escaped the room, but Melina and her husband were too enthralled in their baby to notice.
“Jo wait,” Arizona called after her, but Jo was halfway down the hallway.
She didn’t wait or stop to look back as she started to run down the halls looking for any escape. She didn't realize how nervous she was until she stopped at the elevator, pressing the buttons on repeat before deciding she should take the stairs. She quickly ran and opened the door, but before she could escape into the stairwell, Arizona caught her arm. Arizona pushed her forward as they both stepped into the stairwell.
“I have to go, I have another case in the ER,” Jo said as she quickly tried to run down the stairs and escape the impending conversation she knew was about to happen.
“Jo wait please just let me talk to you for a moment,” Arizona said as she tried to plead with her and kept her grasp on Jo's elbow.
“Well forgive me for not wanting to talk about the man who fucken left me!” Jo yelled as she escaped Arizona and ran down the stairs.
“He only told me a week ago!” Arizona said in defeat as Jo paused, she didn't turn around, but Arizona went on.
“Up until then, he had told me that you both were still in Seattle, happily married and that both of you had adopted Luna. I mentioned that I was going to Seattle and that I was excited to see you all and he broke down until told me everything. About Izzie and the twins and Kansas and everything. I was so angry with him so much that I took a pit stop in Kansas just to yell at him. Then I saw how miserable he is out there.”
“I don't care,” Jo said, cutting her off and turning around to face her. “I'm glad he's miserable, he made his bed now he can lie in it. I rebuilt my life without him. I'm an amazing general surgeon and I'm at the top of my class for OB. I have a family, a daughter, without him. I rebuilt everything without him. ”
“I know,” Arizona said softly, as Jo let out her anger in a breath.
“When Callie and I divorced, we had the most bitter custody battle. I literally went to war with Callie over our daughter. And looking back I regret the way I handled things we both do. After I moved to New York,  we managed to repair our relationship and fall in love again…”
“Just because Alex is your baby brother and I'm bisexual doesn't mean that our relationship is anything like yours.”
“Okay hold up,” Arizona said, holding your hands up as Jo paused and huffed, crossing her arms. “I had no idea you were bisexual, so we're going to have to revisit this later. But I'm not trying to play matchmaker.”
“Oh really?” Jo asked, raising an eyebrow at her.
“Okay maybe a little bit but Alex is brother to me and you're family too, anyone who works at Grey-Slone is family to me. And I want my family to be happy. Callie and I had the worst divorce and now we're getting married again! and I love you and I love Alex and I'm not trying to take sides in this, but I am saying that there is a chance that you could repair your relationship.”
“Arizona, no.”
“Yes, because you two were so in love! Out of all the couples at Gray-Sloan you guys were the one every rooted for. I remember your third year residency when you and Alex, broke up. I thought you'd never forgive him then, but you did! You were so much in love that you repaired your relationship and came back stronger. I just want you and Alex to have the same happiness that Callie and I have.”
Arizona reached out and put her hands on Jo's shoulders, but Jo shook her head pressing her fingers to her head as she rubbed her forehead.
“You don't understand,” Jo said, looking at Arizona and begging her to listen.
“Alex and I didn't just divorce, he left me for his ex-wife and his kids! And I understand why he did it, but he still left me. It was a choice that he made to end our marriage, instead of trying to work it all out and be honest with me. He chose our divorce. And yes, I still love him, deeply. But I can never love him again because of the trust that he broke. If we ever get back together there will always be a part of me that will question if he's just going to leave me again. I can't live like that and I won't raise my daughter in a relationship like that. Luna doesn't deserve that, She deserves to have parents who love and support each other. Alex and I will never have that.”
“Is that why you're with Link?”
“Yes, Link is my best friend and I love him,” Jo sighed as she thought about the life she and Link had together and the ring he had in his drawer for her.
Arizona was silent for a moment. She looked away from Jo's eyes and nodded, before she pulled Jo in for a hug. “I know I'm sorry I didn't mean to over step.”
“Thank you,” Jo said, as she smiled and relaxed.
“I know that you have a life here in Seattle with Luna and Link, but I'd like to accelerate your studies and offer you a fellowship in New York. You are so talented and I've seen you handle tricky situations that most third year residents would drown in. Carina said that the two of you have transformed the maternity ward here in Seattle and cut the maternal mortality rate from 30% down to 3%. I want to implement those changes in New York and bring those changes to every single hospital in the US.”
Arizona beamed a smile and Jo stood in awe of the offer Arizona had given her.
“But you should also know that I've also offered Alex a job in New York and I think he’ll take it.”
“You can't play matchmaker, Arizona,” Jo said as she sighed and shook her head. “I know that it's only been a few weeks for you, but it's been three years for me. My daughter is the best thing that's ever happened to me and it never would have happened if he hadn't left me. And yeah, maybe we would have adopted her together, but it doesn't change the fact that he left. I'm alone and nothing you or him would change that. He made the choice to leave and I made the choice to stay away from him.”
Jo looked up at Arizona, pleading with her to accept this and she finally nodded. “I understand, but I'm still hoping that you'll at least come to visit New York, let me show you around the Robbins-Herman Foundation, please?”
Jo looked down but smiled. “I'll consider it.”
“Great,” Arizona said as she reached out and wrapped Jo in a hug. “Now tell me all about this research you and Carina are doing on intrauterine scarring.”
“Well, Carina and I have started researching how to use the uterus's ability to shed its lining and discard tissue to shed the scar tissue and completely rebuild the walls of the uterus again.”
Jo smiled as they started to walk downstairs together and Arizona hung on her every word. It was clear to Arizona that Jo was passionate about her work, and she was proud of her. It took a special person to succeed in this field and Arizona was so happy to have Jo be a part of this. They talked for hours, meeting after work at Jo's Penthouse where Arizona was able to meet Luna and she absolutely doted on her. Arizona was able to convince Jo to come to New York, at least for a conference and to look around the foundation. Yet, Jo didn't want to accept her offer of a job. Still, they promised to keep in contact and Jo felt good about having her friend back in her life.

“I'm a problem solver / 'Cause I always used to be a problem” (Since I Was a Kid by Lennon Stella)
My last prompt fill! I had a lot of angsty prompts for Maya and Carina, and while this one still led to a difficult situation for Carina, I very much wanted it to be them vs. an external problem. Perhaps my interpretation of the lyrics is creative, but I hope you like what I did with it.
A link to the song
>>>>>>>>>>
Carina is quiet throughout dinner, not that either of them could get a word in even if they tried. Vincenzo DeLuca dominates the conversation, talking about his latest project: this time researching chromosomal abnormalities that lead to birth defects and miscarriage.
“Maybe it’s his way of trying to bond with you,” Maya suggests when they are out of ear shot.
Carina knows better.
Everything her father has ever done is because he likes the spotlight. He is always coming up with ideas that sound miraculous on paper but, in reality, push the boundaries too far. She has seen it give patients false hope, sometimes even putting their lives at risk as he makes unrealistic promises about what he can deliver.
He talks about fixing chromosomal abnormalities in the embryo through surgical intervention – an impossible feat, but one he believes he can achieve.
“Your friend, uh Doctor Robbins, she’s been doing incredible things in New York. It’s a shame you two lost contact.”
Maya raises her eyebrows at the mention of Carina’s ex-girlfriend, but doesn’t take offence at his words, smiling to herself when she feels Carina reach out under the table to squeeze her hand.
Carina is watching for signs of mania, but while he is animated in his stories, he remains calm throughout the evening. He is cheerful and chatty, but never lets the conversation become personal. He doesn’t ask about Carina’s work or the clinic she played a part in opening at the fire station. He asks Maya a few questions about being a firefighter, interested in risks of prolonged smoke exposure on her lungs. He mentions Sicily a couple of times, but not family, and eventually Carina addresses the one subject he seems to be so determined to avoid.
“Papa, do you want to visit the spot where I scatted Andrea’s ashes while you’re here?”
She holds her breath as she waits for his answer, her heart sinking when he scoffs at her suggestion.
“Why would I want to do that?”
“Because you didn’t come when I scattered some in San Lorenzo. I thought you might want to say goodbye to him here, so that we could remember him together,” Carina says, her voice shaking as she speaks.
“What is the point of dredging up the past, Carina?” Vincenzo says dismissively, although he cannot hide the pain in his eyes at the mention of his son.
“It’s not the past, Papa!” Carina says. “The grief I feel is just as present today as it was when he died. I know you feel that too.”
“You don’t know what I feel.”
“No, I don’t, because you never talk about it,” Carina says. “You never talk about him.”
“Don’t push me, ragazza mia,” Vincenzo says.
“Papa…”
“Basta!”
He raises his voice, slamming his glass on the table so roughly that the stem breaks, small shards of glass flying onto his plate. Red wine spills from the goblet, staining the pale cloth that covers the table.
Maya winces, as Carina recoils at his aggression. Vincenzo grabs his napkin and starts dabbing at the droplets of wine on his cream pants, muttering under his breath. Maya stands up and fetches the trashcan to collect the pieces of glass that are scattered across the table.
“I’m sorry,” Carina says meekly.
“No,” Maya interjects. “You’re not the one who should be apologising.”
“Maya please,” Carina tries to stop her, but Maya won’t back down.
“I know that it’s hard for you to talk about Andrew,” she says to Vincenzo, holding his attention with a hard glare. “It’s not easy for any of us, especially Carina. But in this house, we don’t react to our anger like that and we don’t break things out of frustration.”
There is something about the way she asserts herself that persuades Vincenzo not to argue back. Instead, he lifts his hands in conciliation.
“I’m sorry,” he says. “I think it’s time that I left.”
“You don’t have to leave,” Maya says, more gently this time. “Please, stay for coffee.”
Vincenzo shakes his head. “Carina, perhaps you and I can have lunch tomorrow. Maybe you can even give me the phone number for Doctor Robbins?”
And there he is, back to business. Carina nods numbly and walks him to the door, accepting a polite kiss on her cheek before he disappears down the hallway. She closes the door and falls against it, her head resting on the cool, hard wood as she lets out a heavy sigh.
Maya comes up behind her, her hands sliding around her waist and her chin resting on Carina’s shoulder. She doesn’t ask if Carina is okay because she already knows the answer.
“I’m sorry if I overstepped.”
Carina shakes her head. “I’m sorry if he triggered you.”
“I wasn’t worried about me,” Maya says. “I just don’t want you to ever feel like I did when I was a kid.”
“I know,” Carina says, turning in Maya’s grasp and curling her hands around her neck, her fingers running through her blonde hair. “He’s not like that.”
Maya opens her mouth to object, but Carina shuts her down.
“He’s not,” she insists. “He’s just…”
“Emotional? Yeah, I used to say that about my dad too, remember?” Maya says. “Look, I’m not trying to project my issues with my dad onto you and yours. But I will always stand up for you when he crosses a line – and tonight he did.”
“I know, bambina,” Carina says, her forehead coming to rest against Maya’s. “Thank you.”
She feels calmer in Maya’s arms.
“Come on,” Maya says, tugging her back into the apartment. “Let’s clean up and get to bed. And if you want, at the weekend we can go to Hamilton Viewpoint together to remember Andrew?”
Carina smiles as she pushes aside her disappointment in her father, yet again, and instead chooses to focus on the good in her life, following her wife into the kitchen.

Just finished Danielle’s episode… Happy she got to direct a big accident scene (especially with the small Station 19 budget these days).
Loved Jason George’s performance in this episode! It broke my heart seeing the man struggling. But I did not like the throwaway comment Bailey made about won’t let him end up in the hospital like Bishop did. Initially I thought “haha Maya’s the ‘bad example’ at 19 now- previously Vic made fun of her cooking (Vic making jokes to the teenagers) and now Bailey referenced her mental breakdown.” At the moment I thought it was alright to laugh because well, they did all happen, but it felt a little wrong with the Bailey comment. And the more I thought about this, the more I felt uncomfortable about it.
Ben’s guilty about making a promise to Milo and Taylor that he’d come back save Taylor but could not do so. He didn’t feel proud about saving a life, he felt horrible for saving only one life. As terrible as it is, what Ben was going through is entirely different from Maya’s situation. Simply put, Maya’s breakdown was from pent-up abuse lasted through her entire life and the unfair demotion pushed her spiraling down to the deep end. I don’t get the comparison in their cases and I certainly disagree with their decision to keep the line in (and to have the line written in the first place). What did this line achieve exactly?! It also implied that Carina let Maya drown in her darkness which couldn’t be any further from the truth. When I went on the bird app and saw many had the same thought, glad I’m not alone. 👌🏼
I’m so glad that Maya Bishop is getting better with the long-overdue help from Diane and she is apologizing to those she hurt during her mental health downfall. However, I do not find the writers making Maya the “laughing stock” by everyone else funny. It gets even more annoying and tiring to see that every week Maya is there apologizing to everyone and feeling guilty about her previous actions, but no one, not a single person, even acknowledged or apologized for their actions (or the lack of) that had pushed Maya over the edge.
Also, when will the Station 19 writers realize that Dr. Carina DeLuca is an independent character?! Yes, it’s great to have Marina scenes, but please show some respects to the character… and don’t even get me start on promoting Stefania as the series regular but not putting her in episodes regularly?! Carina DeLuca does not have to only show up as Maya Bishop’s wife.
I liked seeing Andy putting Sullivan to his place! You tell him, Andy! Stop being a self-centered ass and support your woman! Lastly, I agree with Ross, if Andy becomes the chief, she’d do great and it’s not because of Ross. I always find Andy showing some entitlement with being in charge of 19, but in this season I see an Andy who’s matured so much! If Maya won’t be reinstated, I’m happy to see Andy becoming the next permanent captain.
Anyways, here’s my favorite Maya Bishop scene from the episode. They tried to keep her appearance at a minimum in this episode, but she still nailed this scene! The mothers in this episode also broke my heart… 💔 The backpack shot was beautiful… 🥲

Good job (both directing and acting), Danielle! Congratulations on an exciting action & emotion packed episode!

Untitled.
Something I’m working on. One-shot for now… but we’ll see.
TW: pregnancy/infant loss/angst
.
.
.
.
For a while it was magical.
Bliss.
Heaven.
Everything they’ve ever wanted.
When Carina was 24 weeks pregnant the news came. That their baby girl had a heart defect, and her little heart was not developing as it should. But it was okay, Carina said it was going to be okay, they could fix it.
But they couldn’t.
They called in every specialist, every favour, but no one could give them good news.
When Arizona nor Teddy nor Maggie could operate without devastating results, they knew, they knew that they would never be the same. She grew and grew and grew. But her heart didn’t. It didn’t strengthen to the point that she could live a normal life. That she could live at all.
Maya could see Carina falling deeper and deeper into despair and she didn’t know what to do. She didn’t know how to help. She didn’t know how to take Carina’s pain away. She refused to focus on herself, refused any kind of comfort. Where past Maya would bury herself in work, the Maya that is loved by Carina DeLuca-Bishop was an attentive and caring partner. She was there for Carina in any capacity she could. She had to. Maya didn’t know how Carina could carry a child to term and not know if that child would survive.
The irony of it all: Carina gave birth on a beautiful spring day after carrying to term, her labour was easy and short, some grace that was provided to her at least; Maya surmised.
Isabella Andrea DeLuca-Bishop survived 3 months.
Maya held the little girl in her arms on the hospital bed - Isabella’s home for the majority of her little life. She cradled her daughter in her arms with Carina’s left arm around her daughter and her right griping on to Maya’s shirt for dear life. Carina had her head buried in Maya’s neck, the only thing in her field of vision was her little girl. Her little girl who didn’t get the chance to run and play and laugh.
Carina knew life outside the comfort of the womb was not easy for her little girl, but she hoped and prayed, that by some miracle little Isabella knew how much she was loved and adored.
“It’s okay baby girl. I know it hurts.’ Maya’s voice breaks as she speaks softly to the precious life in her arms. Isabella’s breath is laboured and they know. They know that she doesn’t have much time. A torment of tears flowed from both of their eyes. Carina can’t even speak. Can’t even fathom that life would be this cruel to them. “You don’t have to hurt anymore, baby, you can go.” Carina doesn’t know how Maya can do it. She has never loved her wife more than at this moment. Maya is being strong for all three of them. She is providing their little girl with the love and comfort that she needs during her last precious moments.
“Mama and mommy love you so much. So so much,” Maya struggles to vocalize, “but you can go. We will be okay. Don’t worry your Zio Andrea will be there with you. He’ll help you.” Carina can’t take it anymore. She holds her daughter and her wife harder.
She holds them for the life they could have had. She’s never known heartache quite like this. She’s not sure if she can survive it. If they can survive it.
When their little girl takes her final breaths, both Maya and Carina know, they know they will never be the same again.

What if Maya had been secretly working on learning Italian. When Carina gives birth to there first kid, Maya’s first words to them are in Italian and Carina can’t believe it.
Tumblr media
ᕚ---ᕘ
It was a quiet afternoon as Maya sat on the sofa in the cozy living room, staring intently at her laptop. The room is lit only by a soft lamplight, illuminating the desk, which was completely cluttered. On the coffee table lay stacks of new books and smeared notes covered with various scraggly characters. Soft and gentle sounds of a language learning program played in the background.
Maya repeated words out loud, trying to imitate the sound of the language as she stared at the screen with a determined expression on her face. The blonde mumbled syllables and phrases under her breath as she used her laptop's keyboard to write down the new vocabulary. Sentences in Italian appeared on the screen and she diligently tried to translate them carefully into English while taking her notes and underlining important words. She marked difficult passages in the textbook precisly while studying the new grammar rules closely.
Maya reached for a dictionary near her thigh and searched for unfamiliar terms to further encourage herself. With a pen between her nose and upper lips, she flips through the pages, reading definitions and trying to understand the meanings. With little dog-ears on the pages, she closes the book back together to return to these words later.
After about two hours of practice, she tiredly looked at the clock and sighed contentedly. It is obvious that she has already put a lot of time and effort into her own language teaching, as she was now able to successfully pronounce several complete sentences. Maya smiled slightly, proud of her weekly progress, before focusing back on her lessons after a quick stretch and another cup of coffee.
More keyboard clicking into a new lesson, the rustling of pages and the muffled voice of the man from the language program fills the truncated silence of learning. Maya was determined to deepen her knowledge as she continued her secret study session, anticipating the surprise of using her wife's learned language for the first time.
The blonde continued to leaf through her solution book, comparing her own notes with the printed information. More hours passed and the clock on the shelf already showed midnight; in six hours she had to go back to work and with a satisfied smile she closed the laptop, stowed the books safely and hidden in a corner where she knew Carina would not accidentally look in. Maya was determined to master this language by her daughter's due date. She was proud of herself that she had learned a lot and was well on her way to mastering her newly acquired language skills.
ᕚ---ᕘ
The sterile atmosphere of the delivery room filled with excitement and a soft glow as Carina lay exhausted but overjoyed on the hospital bed, holding her first newborn peacefully in her embrace, the little girl's tiny fingers wrapped tightly around her index finger. The Italian woman's face was still marked by the exertions of childbirth while she smiled lovingly down on the little face and felt a familiar warmth in her heart.
Maya stood next to the bed at her wife's side, overwhelmed by the birth, the beauty of the moment and the love that pulsed between the three ladies. It was her first child and her first birth that she had experienced live and the emotions overwhelmed her. The blonde never expected that she would ever experience a moment like this in her life.
She lowered her head and gently kissed her baby's forehead several times, whispering quietly but clearly a the first words in Italian to the little creature. "Sei bella quanto tua madre,“ (You are as beautiful as your mother). Carina, still exhausted and overwhelmed by the rigors of childbirth, widened her eyes in surprise when she heard the words. It was as if time stood still for a moment. Placing her index and middle fingers under the blonde's chin, the brunette tried to catch her gaze. The words her wife uttered were so familiar but at the same time so unexpected that the strain of childbirth made it difficult for her to comprehend what had just happened. „Sei il regalo più bello che la vita ci abbia mai fatto." (You are the best gift life has ever given us)
She did not know that Maya had been keeping it a secret from her that she had been secretly learning her language over the past few months. She had tirelessly poured over books and studied Carina's native language to ensure that she had a good command of the language to begin with. She had done all of this to make this special event even more meaningful.
"That was Italian, bambina," Carina whispered, looking wearily at Maya, her eyes bright with excitement. Tears of emotion gathered in the brunette's eyes as she looked at her wife, could not believe how much love and devotion went into this small gesture. „You know my native language?" she asked in a shaky voice and the blonde simply nodded with a loving smile on her face.
"Yes, I learned it to create a better connection with you and our child,“ Maya sat carefully on the edge of the bed and gently stroked the baby's tiny cheek before lovingly taking her away from Carina and into her own arms. "I wanted our child to know your culture from an early age and I also wanted you to know how much I love you."
Carina smiled through the tears that were streaming down her red cheeks and placed her hand on the firefighter's arm, gently stroking it up and down. She didn't know what to say. She was at a loss for words as she heard clear devotion in the younger woman's voice. "I love you so much. You are incredible, you know that?"
The blonde smiled back and gently squeezed her beloved wife's hand. "We are a family now and I will do everything in my power to strengthen our love and happiness. Come what may."

AN: Hey guys here’s another chapter that takes place immediately after the Birth chapters let me know what you think and I will take One Shot Requests if you have any concerning Andrew DeLuca and Amber Karev or Jolex.
Summary: Amber and Andrew try to decide what to name their baby with Alex and Jo weighing their suggestions. Later Amber talks to Carina.
Words: 2573
Jo Karev walks down the hall pushing Luna Karev in her stroller eager to meet her niece. She would’ve come by sooner, but she was busy assisting Dr. Bailey with a large ovarian cyst on a teenage girl who fainted during sex ed. Now it’s almost midnight and all she wants to do is to enjoy peaceful family time she never had growing up. She sanitizes her hands before entering Amber’s room to find her sitting up in bed opening a box of cookies with DeLuca sitting next to her watching Alex who is sitting in a chair holding the baby sticking his tongue out at her like the fun uncle he already is.
Jo smiles at the sight and speaks in a low voice to not alarm the baby, “Hi someone wants to meet her cousin.” She walks closer until she’s next to Alex who grins at her and introduces the cousins.
“Hey little moon this is your cousin TBD DeLuca.” Jo narrows her eyes at him posing an unspoken question, “Yeah, your auntie Amber and uncle Andrew are still deciding on a name so for now she’s TBD. Look TBD this is your cousin Luna.” Luna looks at the baby inquisitively with a blank face.
Jo gets closer to the baby and sees that instead of a pastel hat they normally give for the babies, she’s now wearing a black one causing her to chuckle, “I see she’s inherited her mom’s sense of style.”
Amber grins, “Yeah what can I say she’s a badass already.”
Jo is still gazing at awe of the baby, “Oh my god she is so beautiful you guys. Dark hair or blonde?”
“Dark I guess his genes beat me on that.”
“But she’s got her mom’s blue eyes. So basically, she’s got all of our best physical features in one package.” Andrew points out causing Alex to chuckle.
“Oh, dude you are so screwed.”
Andrew chuckles in agreement, “I’m already looking into getting a gun locker and automatics to fill it so I can scare the boys away when they come over to pick her up.” Amber chuckles at that, “Yeah laugh now but trust me I know now that your brothers were overprotective for a reason. And they’re probably the reason you didn’t have a teen pregnancy or STD.”
“Or I have sound judgement that came from watching my hormone addled brothers bring in a girl week after week forcing me into the role of a sane person who didn’t think with her genitals.”
“It sounds like when I was growing up with my sister.” Andrew quips, “Except they didn’t date your school friends or exes.”
“And let’s be thankful for that and hope she has better judgement than her aunt and uncle when she reaches teen hood.”
Jo carefully takes the baby from Alex and holds her with a grin, “Hopefully by then you guys will pick a name for her.”
Amber groans at that and explains, “We wanted to wait to meet her but now that we met her, we’re stumped. I mean I test simple names like Emma or Amy but she doesn’t feel like an Emma or Amy. There should be an app for this kind of thing.”
Alex kneels down to Luna in the stroller handing her a toy, “Well hey I might have a suggestion if you’re interested.”
“Please so we don’t look like bad parents and leave the hospital with nothing on the certificate.”
“Well, you know Alex is a pretty good name.” Amber raises an eyebrow at that, “It’s gender neutral in case she doesn’t identify as female, it’s cool and it’s after her favorite uncle.”
Andrew grins shaking his head amused, “You really dug deep for that one, didn’t you?”
“It is just a suggestion.”
Amber looks at the baby for a moment before shaking her head, “No she’s not an Alex, what about you Jo?”
Jo coos at the baby before looking at the couple, “Why don’t you do it the Gilmore Girl’s way? Name her Amber after yourself, guys do it all the time.”
Amber shakes her head immediately, “People kept saying to me Amber is a designated stripper name and I’m not gonna subject my kid to the same torture. So, if you all are thinking Angel, Brittany or Bambi toss it out. What about you Luna? Do you have any ideas?” Luna teethes on the toy absentminded not paying attention causing them to chuckle, “I didn’t think so.”
“Well, how about a character from one of our favorite movies?” Andrew suggests, “I liked Terminator growing up, how about Sarah DeLuca?”
Jo looks at the baby and tries it out, “Sarah DeLuca…no.”
Andrew looks at Amber who’s busy eating her graham crackers, “You love Legally Blonde how does Elle sound?”
“No.”
“Reese?”
“Ugh! No!” Andrew looks at her confused by her disgust and she clarifies, “Reese’s cups.”
“Reese’s pieces.” Jo adds.
“Reese’s puffs that girl will be picked on in the schoolyard.” Alex states.
“It’s just an idea that’s all.” Andrew looks at the baby in Jo’s arms, “We really should name her before we leave though.”
Jo chuckles and speaks to her niece in a baby voice, “Don’t worry TBD if your parents are still clueless by the end of the day Aunt Jo will sneak in and put her own name on the certificate.” Jo grins and puts the baby in Andrew’s arm causing him to grin at his daughter. Amber looks at the baby inquisitively before shaking her head.
“No she’s not a Jo.” Amber adjusts the black hat on her small downy head.
Andrew grins and nods, “No you’re not a Jo.” He cradles the baby who gets fussy and starts to cry.
“Oh no I think she’s hungry, come here baby.” Andrew hands the baby to Amber that immediately stops her crying as Amber holds her against her chest. Amber pulls her gown down one shoulder so she can nurse the baby shocking Alex.
Alex quickly stands up and looks away, “Whoa! Okay I um I should go come on Luna bear let’s leave your aunt to her um business.”
Amber chuckles at her brother’s reaction as the baby’s head covers her pregnancy swollen breast from his and Jo’s sight, “What are you 13? You’re a doctor and this is the natural order of things don’t shame me for giving my baby her nutrients.”
Alex coughs and looks down so he can avoid looking at her feeding the baby directly, “I don’t shame mothers for breastfeeding I just don’t feel like looking at my sister with her chest out even if there’s a baby attached to it.”
“He’s got a point babe.” Andrew says to Amber too distracted feeding the baby.
Amber rolls her eyes at the men, “Oh come on dude you used to give me baths.”
He still looks down, “Yeah when you were two.” He turns to Jo who’s stifling her laughter at the conversation, “Jo, are you good to stay so I can take Luna home?”
Jo grins at him trying to avoid eye contact with Amber, “Yes, I’ll carpool with Link and he can drop me off later. You two go and get some sleep I’ll see you in the morning.”
“Great thanks. Congratulations again tell the hopefully will be named soon baby uncle Alex sends his love.” He takes the stroller and exits the room with Luna in toll. Jo and Amber look at each other in amusement as TBD enjoys her breakfast straight from the breast with Andrew eating a graham cracker out of the box.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I woke up after I fell asleep to find the sun rising from the window. Andrew left to put the finishing touches on the nursery and I take advantage of a good night’s sleep predicting it’ll be the last one I get for a while now. I hear a baby gurgle and a female with an Italian accent singing low. I sit up and find Carina DeLuca sitting in a chair holding my daughter marveling at her new niece and singing something in Italian. She looks up and smiles at me.
“Buongiorno.” I grin at her as I rub my eyes, “I wanted to see my new niece before I left, where’s Andrea?”
“He’s putting the final touches in the nursery. We got a diaper table a week ago when we thought we had a few weeks before we had something to put on top of it. Now he’s assembling it and I am praying it doesn’t fall apart and we’re forced to change her in either the kitchen or bathroom counter.” Carina sings to the baby again, “That sounds nice.”
“I used to sing it to Andrea when he was little. I’m sorry I wasn’t here earlier I was busy at the station helping with inventory for the clinic and then…”
I see her smile dying down a bit as she looks at my daughter with longing eyes, “And what? Is everything okay?”
“No, I’m fine it’s just that I took a pregnancy test today.”
My eyes widen at that revelation and I tread carefully, “And it was…?”
“Negative.”
I tsk at that, “I’m sorry I know how much you and Maya want a baby but don’t worry there’s always next time. And until then you guys can be the cool, badass aunts who will watch her when Andrew and I need some alone time.”
Carina sighs in despair rocking the baby gently, “At the rate my marriage is going I’m not sure bringing an innocent baby into it is what I want anymore.” I look at her confused and she elaborates further, “Maya has mental health issues.”
“Ah.” I nod knowing full well what she is going through right now.
“And I have lived most of my life living with people with mental health issues and I am good at it. But being in a relationship with someone with mental health issues is something else it’s…no I am not bringing my marital problems on what should be a happy day.” Carina sniffles and looks down at the baby smiling, “I’ve had a bad day but now it’s a good day because even though I don’t have a baby and my wife isn’t here I have a niece I am going to love and spoil for the rest of her life. Isn’t that right bambina?” Carina coos at the sleeping baby.
I sit up further and look her in the eyes so I can help her with her dilemma, “You know it’s okay to be sad about your wife and happy about your niece at the same time. It’s wishful thinking for us to feel one thing our entire lives.”
“Please don’t let me bother you with my problems. It’s not something you should concern yourself with along with new motherhood.”
“I grew up with a schizophrenic mom, a brother who inherited the illness and a husband who lashed out at me when he inherited his father’s illness. I am literally the only person in this world who has insight into your specific problem.” Carina purses her lips at our similarities, “Look you and Maya whatever you’re going through you’ll get through it. I know how frustrating it is to deal with your partner’s problems while they ignore it and take it out on you. The mood swings, the verbal abuse, the questioning where your relationship stands, I have been through it with your brother. It was hell and there was a point where I hated him for doing to me what my mom and brother did to me. I’ve been where you are and the road ahead is not easy, it’s messy and ugly and you’ll feel like your going crazy along with Maya.”
Carina tears up at that and wipes a stray tear while holding my baby, “Is this you trying to make me feel better? Because it’s not working.”
“A messy road like that forced me and Andrew to fight for our relationship and it took a while and I had to tackle a lot of my issues my family put on me. But we came out on the other side stronger than ever. We wouldn’t have done that if the love we shared wasn’t worth it and if we didn’t do that then that little girl wouldn’t be here right now.” Carina grins with tears glistening in her eyes as she looks down at the beautiful baby girl, “Don’t give up, if the love you and Maya have is stronger than your problems then you two can survive this.”
Carina grins grateful to me, “When did you become an optimist?”
“It’s probably the hormones left over.” Carina laughs at that rocking the baby gently.
“Ah bambina you’re not even a day old and your already so popular.” I grin at the baby thinking how much luckier she was than me and thankful I’m giving a good and loving life to her, “I just wish mine and your papa’s mama was here to see you. Your nonna Lucia would have loved you so much and you’d be the most spoiled granddaughter in the world. I’m just grateful to have you in my life now and I’ll be your favorite zia and I’m not gonna tell your aunt Jo.” I chuckle at that and we sit there looking at the baby marveling at the new life. And it was at that moment I knew what to name her.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Andrew enters Amber’s patient room in his casual gray thermal shirt and jeans since it’s his day off. He finds Amber finishing breastfeeding the baby putting her hospital gown back over her shoulder and the baby looks satiated.
“Hey how are my girls doing?” He grins at them as he sits down next to Amber.
“We’re good she’s already nursing like a pro. Do you want to go to daddy? Let’s go to daddy.” Amber smiles as she carefully hands the baby to Andrew who smiles as he holds her causing the baby to make baby noises and looking up at Andrew with her blue-green eyes that she got from Amber which makes Andrew’s heart swell even more.
“Hi TBD.” Andrew happily greets her, “Oh god we gotta pick out a name otherwise she’s gonna hate us like we hated our parents.”
Amber grins, “I have a name actually, I wanted to run it by you and see what you think.”
“Okay lay it on me let’s see if it’s the one.”
“…Lucia.”
Andrew freezes as soon as he heard it and looks at Amber surprised, “That’s my mother’s name.”
Amber grins at him and explains, “When Carina came by, she kept saying how she wished your mother was here to see her and that’s when I knew what her name was.”
Andrew chuckles softly as a bittersweet ache squeezes his chest. He looks down at the sleeping baby and kisses the top of her small head, “It sounds perfect, Lucia DeLuca.”
Amber nods, “Yeah but maybe we should call her Lucy, doesn’t she look like a Lucy?”
Andrew grins, “She does she very much does.” He continues rocking the baby and turns to Amber with love in his eyes, “I love you; I love both of you thank you for giving me this.”
Amber smiles lovingly, “We love you too.” They then kiss and enjoy this blissful moment with their daughter, Lucy DeLuca.

how the fuck did he pull carina mf deluca :(
hahahahaha fucking MOOD.
ugh. honestly derek was so terrible. i saw a tik tok yesterday that said "if you think derek is good/you like him, i'm gonna guess this is your first time watching through, or you're a child" cause the entire thing is terrible. he deserved to die/be written off WAY earlier, like it was even set up for him to leave when he got shot. he was interm cheif waiting for webber to hit a certain stage of sobriety and he had at the beg of the ep. ugh.
THAT IS MY FOREVER QUESTION (though tbh, as a bi girlie, we usually thirst over actually good looking, nice men, and end up choosing the crusty ones.. its just how it works. and considering teddy and amelia are both also bi/pan/queer... i guess it makes sense LOL)
