Maybe it’s my fear of not being believed but I literally can’t do comedy where the other person isn’t being believed. Straight up, at first I would get stressed when the Human Centipede clip was going around. Like, do you know how terrifying it is to be in a wild ass date where you think you’re in danger and the waiter notices but has they have to open their mouth so now you have lie. Or the Elmo Rocko memes like, OF COURSE ELMO’S DISTRESSED! I WOULD BE TOO! LIKE EVERYONE IS TELLING YOU THIS ROCK IS REAL WHEN IT’S NOT(and like yah I’m sure there’s nuance to the situation but like COME ON).

Or Bibi from La Familia Peluche, I remember liking the show as kid and I still do but like, fuck man, the borderline emotional abuse than girl goes through IS WILD. LIKE EVERYONE FUCKING TELLING YOU THAT YOU’RE NOT NORMAL AND FEELING LIKE YOU’RE GOING CRAZY. I remember rewatching La Familia Peluche in Highschool and like fuck man, that period episode. Or to this day I remember the scene where they were serving food and she started to eat first and her family chastised her so she stops but then they make her feel back cause she already started so now she just continue to eat it and like I’ve literally been in a similar situation. And for those who haven’t watched the show, the whole shitck is that this is an absurd world where everyone works on a different level and Bibi’s the only who reacts normally to our eyes(the comedic straight man to alot of the jokes), which leads to the iconic line “Bibi porque no eres una niña normal”(Bibi why aren’t you a normal girl) that is said in every episode. Which from a dramatic irony perspective that we the audience know she’s the only normal person, makes it a funny joke, but if you think about it too hard, it’s so fucking sad, I just can’t help but not fully enjoy the show cause I just constantly feel bad for her.

Fuck even watching HALF LIFE VR BUT THE AI IS SELF AWARE FUCKS WITH ME! Like yes I very much enjoy the series! But, most of the time I’m just feeling bad for Gordon, like fuck man, I’d react the same way, wouldn’t you. Like ESPECIALLY BENRY! MAN DID HE STRESS ME OUT! I genuinely felt so bad for Gordon!

And then this slides into how I can’t enjoy alot of comedy(especially cringe humor) cause even though I understand the joke and think it funny on paper, I just end up feeling too bad for the character to actually enjoy. And it’s awful because I’ll STILL watch the shows because I’m invested in the characters not the humor if that makes sense??? (Oh, Community/The Office, the hate love relationship I have with you).

Anyway, yes I’m so fun to watch comedy with, I literally can’t be in the same room from some scenes. And yes, all my favorite characters follow the Only Sane Man trope, why’d you ask?

Updated "Western" Friends | Stray Kids Additional Member AU

Nicholas is still friends with some of the other people from the 1st western friends post, but he's also made new ones.

WARNINGS: Let me be delusional. Mention of Cardi and Nicki scandal. "Fans" being weird about Nicholas and his friendship with women. I don't know if there's anything else.

Nicholas was a fan of Billie since Ocean Eyes. He eventually reached out to congratulate her on making it big, and give her a heads up on what to expectation versus reality on the spot light. He told her to reach out if she ever needed anything or just to talk to him.

Surprisingly, Billie reached out very randomly and just needed to rant. She claimed it felt "better to rant to someone not in the situation because then they wouldn't be biased." She was right. Nicholas was able to give her multiple perspectives on what she was going through while coming to a conclusion on how she felt. They've been friends since.

Nicholas kind of adopted Billie and now they have a great friendship. Unfortunately, there are some people who think it's creepy for Nicholas to be friends with Billie and continuously express that. It doesn't stop Billie from posting about Nicholas being a dumbass. "It's moments like this where I question your logic. Cause what made you think that was a good idea?"

Bonus: Billie is aware of some of Nicholas's trauma thanks to the few videos he's done on them, but she wants, and is waiting, for him to tell her himself.

I'm Not Fighting You, But She'll Do It For Me

Unsurprisingly, Megan is the one who introduced them to each other. She wanted to know if the three of them could do a collab. Unfortunately, JYP didn't approve of this so the idea was scrapped. But that didn't stop Cardi and Nicholas from keeping in touch.

The feud between Cardi and Nicki started the distance between Nicholas and Nicki. Nicholas knows the Barbz, or Nicki's fans, started the feud but it irritated him that the two continued it. He, of course, never spoke on it no matter how many times people asked about it. Nicholas's continuous stance of staying indifferent in the situation, even though he knew Nicki before Cardi, is also what pulled her further into nurturing him.

Shortly, after Nicholas and Nicki had a fall out, Cardi stepped in to help take care of him. When Nicki stopped checking in, Cardi checked in. When Nicki stopped responding, Cardi would respond and constantly reach out. "Listen, you ain't gotta worry about her no more, aight? Ima look out for you."

Bonus: Cardi made sure she told Nicholas about her pregnancy with Wave (her son) before he found about the news. She said it made it more special to hear it from the momma rather than some news person.

The Funniest and The Hottest

Nicholas is known by American Stays to say Coco Jones quotes. There are so many compilations of him quoting other famous people and eventually it got onto Coco's feed. She tweeted a clip of him quoting her word for word with a goofy look and all.

Their friendship isn't really known because they don't interact in public. With them living on different sides of the planet, the time zones, and the lack of interaction on the internet, it's not a easy thing to point out.

They're such bad influences on each other. Stay already knew Nicholas was a goofball, but when he met Coco and they did video collabs together with Terrell, everyone realized Nicholas was a idiot who needed to be protected at all costs.

Bonus: They communicate through memes and TikTok, which is amusing to the boys. Their whole message feed thingy is filled with pictures and videos.

Tall & Lean and Short & Slim

Ironically, Nicholas learned about her through TikTok because of her song Ick. He played the song in front of his father, and the man was disgusted that this was the music his son was listening to. For the whole time he visited his family, Nicholas had the song on repeat.

Nicholas sent Lay a DM to thank her for helping him piss her parents off. After explaining what happened after a very confused response from her, she found the situation hilarious and posted about it while making sure to keep his identity hidden.

If you thought people went crazy about Nicholas and Billie, imagine their reaction to his friendship with a 19 year old. After this Nicholas just kind of adopted Lay and added her to his list of adoptive children. It only consists of Billie and Lay, but it's the fact he has "kids" that leaves him tickled.

They're is a time difference so they kind of just spam each other and wait for the other to reply. Usually, Nicholas is up late so it means he can respond when Lay is getting up in the morning.

Bonus: Nicholas got Lay to help prank Chan by using a voice effect that made her sound like a kid. It went something along the lines of him telling Chan he needed help keeping his kid hidden with Chan being confused on when Nicholas had time to actually have a child without him knowing.

III in the heat of the moment on a tuesday once. just screamed

mind you IV was only now getting use to being intimate with the vessels, and this was only a month or so in the relationship. so to make III happy (because IV has been with people who do enjoy the pain) bit down hard enough to cause a bruise.. but it was a little to hard.

especially since some of her favorite artists would be there.

she was definitely nervous as well.. so just feeling all types of emotions at once🧍🏽‍♀️

while her and her crew were on their way to the event, she was still getting touchups on her makeup as she remained on the phone with her boyfriend.

“baby, you’ll do fine. i promise.” jungkook softly smiled at her through the screen. he wasn’t able to attend which sort of made her a but sad but what could she do?

she exhaled from her mouth, letting her partner’s reassuring words sink into her head.

they continued to speak until she arrived at the venue

as soon as she stepped out of her vehicle it was like.. literally deafening screams

she was surprised at how many people knew her and screamed her name

and of course she waved to as many people as she could before heading inside with security behind her

she took some pictures on the red carpet until it was time for her interview

“Lucy! Oh my goodness, it’s so great to see you! What do you have on tonight?” The interviewer flashed her a smile.

“Thank you so much! It’s so great to be here, um, tonight I have on some Dior and my earrings are Dior as well.” Lucy responded. Her voice was always so soft which made people fall in love with her more and more.

“Wow.. and I mean, you look amazing. So tell me, how are you feeling about tonight? Is there anybody you’re excited to see?” The woman angled the mic back to her.

“Thank you! Uh, on the way here, I felt really nervous. I still kind of am, but for the most part I’m so excited. I’ve heard there’s a lot of Latin artists here so I’m definitely excited for that. And oh my gosh, Anitta! I really want to meet her. It’s really nice to see some K-pop artists here, as well.” She ranted.

“Oh, and Cardi! I’ve heard her and Megan are performing and they always, always get me so hype so definitely excited for them. Just everyone, to be honest.” She added.

Her and the interviewer continued to chat and share some laughs until it was time for her to go backstage.

Since she had multiple performances, she would be one of the first to go.

she was able to meet anitta which also made her super giddy inside

she was there with txt so of course lucy had to say hi, though they’re in the same company and see each other pretty often 😭

“You were literally amazing out there, garota!” Anitta pulled back from the hug, smiling wide.

Honestly, all Lucy could do was giggle and thank Anitta. She was so honored that one of the many people that she looked up to had complimented her and had been so nice.

Concerning that person who is suing Megan. Remember when NM was going on a full rant after HISS ? She let it slipped that Roc Nation was firing people. When she was going in on Latto, she exposed herself saying "she has everybody schedule" (Cardi and Megan). Because, she is going broke, her way of promoting her stuff is to do it at the same time that Megan or Cardi are releasing something. That's why she announced her album 10min after the Bongo's cover. That person was NM's mole at Roc Nation.

Oooh yes I saw something about this, he liked that tweet she made about people being fired from rocnation which to me confirms it was him.

BPP, I feel like Hybe hasn’t been taking care of the optics of their business. They’ve been weathering a lot of controversies non stop this year from karmys to iarmys (gp and kpop fand in general too tbh) and now they’ve priced the Proof Collectors ed for almost 300 usd. It feels like any time now, ARMY is going to blow up 😭 like, I don’t know wtf they’re PR/marketing department is doing.

I’m broke so there was never any chance for me to buy this or their other merch but I don’t even think a lot of Armys except for the richest can comfortably drop the money for this, especially since the fotobooks are still ongoing…

Let's laugh a little first:

(A $300 repackage of an anthology album. I wonder if anyone reading my blog still remembers my rant about the BE Essential money grab album. It's not random that the byline of this blog is: "A fun place to watch the fandom implode.")

Anon, I agree with you.

I don't want to ramble on in a long-form post filled with links and sources etc, and someone has asked me a similar question before, so I'll repurpose some of that answer into this to explain how (1) on one hand, the nature of most 'controversies' HYBE/Big Hit has weathered this year are such that no amount of PR etc would matter.

Like for example, even for the Vegas concerts when HYBE invited several journalists for the press conference in the US, offering a blanket invitation to every news outlet in Korea so no broadcasters were favoured and HYBE covered transit and other expenses for journalists equally.. The very first thing Juwon Park (a k-journalist with ties to YG) tweeted about it, was a link to an antitrust whistleblower website while 'thinking out loud' that HYBE's actions were illegal (they weren't). She deleted that tweet after two of her own colleagues told her it's not and asked how she as a journalist wouldn't know that and asked why she would pose such an incendiary legal question to fans on Twitter.

This is the same journalist who the first thing she tweeted about Proof was questioning the inclusion of Filter on the album and incorrectly asserting Bobby Jung was solely responsible for writing the song.

This is also the same journalist who the first thing she tweeted in response to news of BTS visiting the White House to talk about racism and hate crimes towards Asians and Asian Americans, the first thing she said on the matter was assert that BTS had no right to speak on the subject given they have never gone to the Blue House in Korea to advocate against discrimination. She blocked ARMYs carefully responding to her concerns and retweeted ARMYs calling her a Cardi B lyric.

Should we talk about BTS's 2022 Festa Dinner, where Korean journalists had no excuse of 'wrong subtitles' to explain how they blatantly mischaracterized everything BTS said. Because BTS were crystal clear in Korean, they never indicated they’re disbanding, they simply reversed priorities, and yet, k-media managed to get every single point wrong. K-media went on so many tangents my mom called me within hours laughing about the headlines. A lot of the k-media reports were blatant fabrications. It’s why RM’s letter on Weverse the following day was written so strongly - there was naked malicious intent in the way many media reports went, and the schneduafraude towards the group (for something many other groups have announced without incident) was palpable.

The point is, several of the controversies faced by the brand/company are entirely manufactured and maintained by a hostile press environment that's also lucrative. And let's not pretend k-pop stans are fans of anything connected to BTS anyway.

In the case of the 2022 Festa Dinner for example, one criticism I can give to the company is that perhaps HYBE underestimated the need for a written statement or the need to do damage control (because BTS were crystal clear in Korean - nothing needed clarifying for the media and yet), but I’ve written before how k-media is typically uncharitable towards BTS, to the point that media commentators and music critics in Korea including Kim Young-dae, have noticed that trend and talked about it.

There's also the fact that many industry insiders still view HYBE as an outsider that must be dethroned - and that's not an exaggeration but me paraphrasing a real Korean investor research report on k-pop companies. So in addition to typical bad quality control, there’s real business interest in creating the impression of incompetence and all that at HYBE, regardless of what the facts actually are.

The fact is Hybe/BTS do not fully have the privilege their position should in theory afford them, meaning that anything positive they do is underplayed, and any negative thing they do is overblown. Even a decent PR firm would fail in this situation. At the same time the company itself has legitimate (in my opinion at least) issues.

This is all on one hand.

(2) On the second, HYBE in general gives me the impression of a company that has grown too big too quickly. The fact Jimin’s mail was stolen and leaks have only gotten more prevalent since LY Tear, tells me that quality control is a bigger problem now despite the team supposedly having more resources. I understand the business rationale behind the hasty acquisitions in 2020/21, but sometimes, during M&A due diligence, quality control issues slip through the cracks and hurt the acquiring company later on. Not all of HYBE's subsidiaries are run as well as Big Hit with BTS, and many of these companies have legacy k-pop staff and cultures, meaning some of the endemic problems in the industry are more likely to be found in these companies as well.

HYBE also buys into the philosophy that greed is good. A $300 Collectors album is reasonably priced for a group like BTS imo. But, not to repeat my rant about the BE essential album, this particular album is a 'collectors' album... of an anthology album... which is in itself an artist-selected collection album... and it will not count for charts, explicitly at the label's request. Lol.

I've said before I'm not the sort of hobbyist that collects things, so this album never held any appeal for me. I'm also not going to even attempt justifying another person's purchases of fan material (for the people who do buy this album) because that's an absurd thing to do. It's their money - good luck to them. I think people are going to do what they always do: buy it if they want and not buy it if they don't. Despite all the chatter and discourse about fans burdened/pressured to buy merch, everybody just ends up doing what they want anyway. As I said to another anon who asked about HYBE's merch prices, expect more things like this, because BTS is now at a level that these economic choices are possible.

I agree an exceptional PR team wouldn't hurt, but so long as the boys themselves are fairly insulated from this, I don't mind seeing corporates put on the spot. I like seeing the bigwigs squirm. HYBE has serious issues they need to fix and should know this is a commonly held opinion.

Not necessarily this fic but I've seen many where the readers desperately want the mc to get back together with the cheater and honestly that's unhealthy on so many levels. Irl that only works out for some people but majority of people who get back together with their cheaters are almost always unhappy or are extremely insecure or suspicious. A relationship is built on trust without trust might as well through away the entire relationships because unnecessary arguments arise. When someone cheats on you and you get back together with them there's always that little voice in the back of your head like what if they're doing it again. They come home a little late and you're suspicious. Their phone rings randomly and you get anxious. That shit isn't healthy and it messes with your self esteem. Why put yourself through that..maybe love yourself a little more or put yourself first. Those little voices also lead to unnecessary arguments and accussations that just stress out both parties in the relationship. One person thinks the worse of their partner and they other grows frustrated because their past "mistakes" are being thrown in their face. It's not good for either person. Walking away from relationships that you put time and energy into is extremely difficult so I'm not saying it's going to be a walk in the park but as cardi b said "it's gonna hurt me to hate you but loving you is worse" if you don't trust someone who you are supposed to share a home with, a bed with the relationship is basically destroyed before it can even go anywhere. Just heal. I know some people are able to get through those type of situation but just throwing out random not fully accurate statistics here it probably only works out for 3 or of 10 couples who have gone through cheating situations. Staying in damaged relationships is literally like drinking poison. It's a slow agonizing death that destroys your mental. Honestly sometimes it upsets me when people chose to stay in toxic relationships. I have to keep reminding myself that it's not my business but sometimes when it happens to people close to you its infuriating because it's watching a loved one be it friend or family member refuse to love themselves. You played with fire and got burnt so what you're gonna play with the fire again just to confirm that it did in fact burn you ?? Your happiness, self worth, value should not come from someone else let alone someone who went out and knowingly hurt you. Cheating isn't an accident you don't accidently put your d*ck in some or have someone put their whatever in you, that's a conscious decision...most times but in terms of for example being drunk if you get so drunk to the point you back out and cant remember what you did that's just irresponsible (unless ofc you were dr*gged).

Anyway this a whole long drawn out rant on what I think about cheating situations and basically me hoping that y/n doesn't get back together with ****. Because then to who wants a man that easily left you for someone else thinking they fell out of love with you only to come back on their knees a few months later? If it was that easy to throw away a 5 year relationship once who's to say it can't happen again. Who's to say that if they do get back together he may meet some other chic that makes him think he's out of love with y/n again. Truth is you never know if someone will fully change so might as well not put yourself back in that situation. But that's just my opinion tbh. I know others may feel different and I fully accept their view on this matter too. I feel strongly on cheating because things in fanfics most times isn't how it is in real life and sometimes it sells fantasies to some readers. I'm honestly tired of seeing fics (not this one because it hasn't ended yet so I'm not going to judge) that have the mc go back with the cheater with literally no repercussions and its just all fine and dandy I forgive you let's have 5 kids and a house on a farm type situation shit in a matter of like 2 months. Like that shit isn't realistic and even for the couples in real life who do overcome those situations, it's not without some struggles and most times therapy.

the zamora family has lived in new orleans since their enslaved ancestors were brought to this country , the matriarch of the family ( only referred to as maman ) is a root worker who married a christian preacher ( only referred to as papa ) . their relationship isn’t exactly healthy but they’re deeply committed to one another .

maman has raised three generations of zamoras , her children , her grand children and as of a few months ago her great grand children have been toddling around her home . jam was the very last child that maman had , and as such she was pretty much babied her entire life .

she was the definition of a big fish in a small pond , she was the it girl around her neighborhood and naturally when she turned eighteen and moved to new york she thought it’d be easy for her to get famous . her ultimate goal was to star on broadway but that never happened . she went from dead end job , to dead end job . did a few plays , off broadway of course , and was in a total of three commercials .

she moved from new york to LA when her roommate ( and girlfriend ) at the time decided to leave , she followed without a second thought , they moved into wisteria together and even though they eventually broke up they’re still friends and roommates

Nicki Minaj is the conductor of her own downfall. And it's sad to watch.

Rap legend has been actively polluting her legacy for quite some time

There’s a figure in American life who’s compulsively divisive. They govern by their own rules. They speak solely to the segment of society — albeit millions of followers — who lap up their Jim Jones-flavored Kool-Aid because, in this alternate reality, they’re the agents of truth and salvation. Any opposition is just an enemy of the state. Perhaps most importantly, too, misinformation is the highest form of currency.

No, not former President Donald Trump (though it applies to him, too). But given the last week in Black pop culture, that figure is Nicki Minaj.

What should be one of hip-hop’s sterling legacies has long been sullied by her support-at-all-costs dictatorship. Her alleged off-putting demeanor has circumvented anything she’s done for at least the past half-decade. Her closest affiliations and decisions have threatened to make her a pariah. And her catalog — despite its chart success — has produced bloated numbers and empty statistics primarily driven by a cult following who’ll support her regardless of her morals, targets or intentions. Nicki Minaj has become a cancer to an art form she once almost single-handedly carried on her back.

Megan Thee Stallion is running hip-hop. Deal with it.

On Wednesday, she joined Joe Budden’s Spaces on X, formerly known as Twitter, to discuss the fallout from Megan Thee Stallion’s new single “HISS,” — which could become the No. 1 song in the countrynext week. The aggressive invitation-for-smoke is presumably aimed at a cast of characters — most notably Nicki Minaj. In her rant, she blamed parties like YouTube and the “machine” for Megan Thee Stallion’s notoriety and the song’s success. She doubled down on making fun of the Houston rapper, saying she wanted her “Rihanna moment” — referring to the singer’s 2009 domestic violence incident with then-boyfriend Chris Brown — as a means to dilute her trauma stemming from the July 2020 shooting that landed singer/rapper Tory Lanez in prison. Nicki even went as far as to insinuate that Roc Nation is Megan’s puppeteer while avoiding mentioning the company’s founder, Jay-Z, or his wife, Beyoncé.

But a big part of the problem is that Nicki Minaj can’t lyrically squabble, not on wax and certainly not when she’s under pressure. Many of her direct shots at opponents have come on award show stages, at pop stars such as Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus or her former fellow American Idol judge Mariah Carey. Her past beefs with rappers such as Remy Ma or Cardi B have been one-sided and not necessarily in her favor. With her response to Megan Thee Stallion, “Big Foot” — a pieced-together arts and crafts project, at best — Nicki brought a knife to a gunfight. A pen to a test, as another New York MC once said while engaged in battle. And it’s a battle she herself, more than anyone else except Megan Thee Stallion, knew was bubbling for quite some time.

Nicki’s Spaces tirade came after the Queens, New York, rapper spent days spiraling on social media about Megan Thee Stallion. The last four years of Megan’s life have been filled with controversy, suicidal thoughts and anxiety. Suspected targets in “HISS” included rapper Drake, Lanez, her former best friend Kelsey Harris, former boyfriend Paridson “Pardi” Fontaine and more. The most poignant of the bars was seemingly directed at Nicki — an artist Megan herself once said she had been her fan since 2008 and she was one of her biggest inspirations.

“These h— don’t be mad at Megan, these h— mad at Megan’s Law/I don’t really know what the problem is, but I guarantee y’all don’t want me to start/B—-, you a p—-, never finna check me/Every chance you get, bet your weak a– won’t address me.”

Megan’s Law was signed into law in February 1996. It required registered sex offenders to publicly disclose their place of employment and residence to local law enforcement. Nicki Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, served 4½ years in prison after pleading guilty to attempted rape in 1994 when he was 16. Nicki Minaj and Petty were sued for witness tampering in 2021. Jennifer Hough, the survivor of the attempted rape, claimed the couple pressured her to recant her story after Petty was arrested shortly after moving to California for essentially failing to comply with Megan’s Law. Jelani Maraj, Nicki Minaj’s brother, was sentenced to 25 years to life for the sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl in 2017. Fair or not, her proximity to these heinous offenses has irreparably harmed her career.

“Nobody is saying that Nicki isn’t happy, [or] that Nicki’s man doesn’t love her, [or] that they don’t have a supportive relationship,” media personality and attorney Rachel Lindsay said on her Higher Learningpodcast with co-host Van Lathan. “But I just feel like aren’t you always tired of having to go off on somebody bringing up what actually happened? … She just gets so outraged anytime it’s brought up, but it’s true! At least as far as the record is concerned. I just wish she would just stop.”

Following the release of “HISS,” Nicki Minaj immediately took to social media to respond in a bizarre Instagram Live video where she soft-launched “Big Foot.” The song was filled with erratic thoughts of her lamenting the shooting that landed Lanez in prison, invoking Megan Thee Stallion’s mother, Holly Thomas, who died of brain cancer in 2019, and blasting Megan’s alleged sexual history. How the record came to be is a microcosm of where Nicki Minaj, an undisputed hip-hop icon in her own right, currently stands.

Nicki’s most recent album, Pink Friday 2, showcased moments of glory like “Barbie Dangerous” and introspective odes like “Are You Gone Already?” and “Just the Memories.” The album hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 200 chart for one week and is currently a top 100 album in the country. Her dominance, however, lives mainly on the internet. Online is where she’s most influential and her security most shielded.

America is no stranger to celebrity worship. Beyoncé has the Beyhive, Rihanna has her Navy, Justin Bieber has the Beliebers and Taylor Swift has the Swifties (which now includes the NFL). In a world where celebrity worship, or “stanning,” sits further on the maniacal side than charming, Nicki Minaj’s “Barbz” resemble a cult more than an online fan club. The local cemetery where Thomas is buried has reportedly alerted local authorities about increasing security due to alleged calls from Barbz to desecrate Thomas’ grave. Sadly, Nicki rarely does much to control those who hang on to her every word.

The next first ladies of rap

Despite last week’s drama, it’s nearly impossible to envision a world where she didn’t see a response coming. The two initially linked up in 2019. They soon collaborated on Megan Thee Stallion’s hit “Hot Girl Summer.” In August 2020, a month after Megan was shot, Nicki Minaj again praised her following the release of her Cardi B collaboration “WAP,” saying that she “was the perfect example that we can be fun and smart at the same time.”

Everything changed in 2021 when both artists unfollowed each other on social media. Subliminal disses from Nicki Minaj followed, like 2021’s “Seeing Green” and last year’s “Ruby Red Da Sleeze,” which contained bars referring to her alleged alcoholism and her Doritos Super Bowl commercial. In the fall of 2022, Nicki Minaj alleged that she once tried to get her to consume alcohol while she was attempting to get pregnant, a claim Megan Thee Stallion vehemently denied.

Nicki Minaj claims to have several more songs in the tuck should this beef continue. It begs two questions. One, does she herself consider “Big Foot” better than “HISS”? And two, why lead with this one, an objective dud if there are other options?

Megan Thee Stallion has not responded since dropping “HISS,” opting to use the attention to promote the song, her upcoming album and tour. Nicki, who prided herself for years on how she commands a media cycle, essentially got TKO’d at her own game. The same thing happened to her after Remy Ma dropped her colossal diss record “shETHER.” It happened again when Cardi B attempted to fight her at New York Fashion Week in 2018, which promptly revived conversations about respectability politics.

Nicki Minaj’s impact over the last 15 years is undeniable, and her role in the evolution of women in rap is objectively unimpeachable. She’s done it in many ways, from underground mixtapes to outrapping established stars through fashion, album sales and awards. She is a star, with no disclaimer on gender. Nicki Minaj should be celebrated as a rap legend. She can rap and is amazing at it when she decides to be. All of which makes her response — with years of tensions marinating below the surface — even more head-scratching. The only approval came from the same fans who would support her regardless of what she does.

It’s impossible to predict if Nicki can fix her public image — but it’s clear at this point she doesn’t care to or even have to. She hasn’t been the superstar she once was in her mind — or the Barbz’s — in years. And she likely never will be again. But much like the aforementioned former president, rapper Kanye West or even Lanez, there’s value in cultivating one’s own alternate reality because it means there’s never any reason to leave.

How the Head Barbie in Charge is discussed in American hip-hop and pop culture now is primarily based on the person she is, not the feats she accomplished. The pathetic part is it never had to be like this. What’s even more pathetic is that she doesn’t care to acknowledge it at all.
