Terrible Visions
A scrambled timeline is a timeline that has proceeded much like ours, except that some particular facet has been mixed up all over the place. For example, in the scrambled timeline we will consider today, our world's fictional stories have been told by different people, and in different ways.
Bryan Lee O'Malley, in this alternate timeline, is best known as the cartoonist responsible for Homestuck, a popular comic series about a group of children who become embroiled in a cosmic-scale video game known as Sburb. Although Homestuck is probably most often associated with the cult classic Edgar Wright-directed film adaptation released in 2016, the comics themselves are highly-regarded, and the film brought a new audience to them. Netflix has commissioned an animated continuation, The Homestuck Epilogues, which is due to be released soon.
Andrew Hussie, on the other hand, is a figure you're likelier to know if you're overly online. His "MS Paint Adventures" series - most notably including Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, which is kind of like Homestuck but weirder and hornier - have firmly remained a fixture of obsessive Twitter fandom culture. It doesn't help that the best-known iteration, Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, is infamous for stretching thousands of pages of meandering digressions out of a simple and focused narrative starting point. Scott Pilgrim fans have developed something of a toxic reputation, which is not entirely deserved - although of course Knives discourse is interminable, and back in the fandom's heyday there were reportedly incidents of fans assaulting each other "for being evil exes".
Scott Pilgrim fandom was very big back in the day, though, and consequently it was a nexus for other creative figures who would go on to surpass Hussie. Perhaps foremost among these is indie developer Toby Fox. He was literally living in Hussie's basement when he produced ROSEQUARTZ, a universally-beloved retro Goonies-like RPG about a human hybrid boy born to a race of gem-based aliens. He's now developing an episodic spiritual successor, RAZORQUEST, with more overtly dark themes. It revolves around an inheritance dispute among a demon-summoning family.
Other foundational figures in this timeline's internet culture include Alison Bechdel, who helped get the webcomic scene started. Although she's now more seriously acclaimed for her personal memoirs, her gaming webcomic Press Start To Dyke, which premiered in 1998, was once everywhere. It had a broad appeal, and at its height, it was common to see even straight guys sharing pages from it. Time has not been especially kind to it, though, and at this point its main legacy is test.png, a meme spawned by one of the comic's most ill-advised pages.
Then there's John C. McCrae, more often known by his pseudonym Wildbow. A prolific and reclusive author of doorstopping "web serials" - long-form fiction published online - McCrae's best-known serial is still his first, Wind, a noir superhero story set in an alternate history where capes are mostly just a subculture of unpowered vigilantes. Wind landed in a culture already rife with comic book deconstructions, like Alan Moore's 2002 graphic novel Worm Turns, but it nonetheless managed to stand out from the pack with its extensive cast of characters and its themes of coordination problems and the end of the world. Later McCrae web serials include Part (the first "Otherverse" serial; an urban fantasy story about a couple who die in a car accident and find that they have become ghosts), Tear (a "biopunk" story set in a collapsing underwater city), Warn (the controversial Wind sequel), and Play (the second "Otherverse" serial, set in a small Indiana town that helps hide a psychic girl from the CIA).
Last and perhaps least, we should discuss J. K. Rowling. Far and away the most famous of any of these authors, Rowling's name is inseparable from the YA series that she debuted with, the Luz Noceda books, which remain her one successful work. Although it was heavily derivative of older fantasy novels - like Jill Murphy's Academy For Little Witches, or Philip Pullman's Methods Of Rationality trilogy - Luz Noceda was still a monumental and unprecedented success in the publishing industry, and the film adaptations were consistent blockbusters. The final book, Luz Noceda and the Watcher of Rain, contained some allusions to a romantic relationship between Luz and her recently-redeemed associate Amity. Rowling confirmed that this was her intent in subsequent interviews and indicated that she had fought her publishers for it; the film would then go on to escalate matters slightly further.
There have been many lengthy and heated online arguments as to whether the references in the book itself constitute text or mere subtext. Whatever your stance on this discourse, a new complication has been introduced recently: although she has put out no official statement on the matter as of yet, it has become quite apparent from Rowling's shrinking network of contacts and her conspicuous silences that she is certainly TERF-sympathetic, and likely an outright TERF herself. For many, this is leading to a critical reevaluation of the social values inherent in the Luz Noceda series; others, to say the least, are holding off on that kind of reappraisal.
Anyway, Scott Pilgrim just beat Luz Noceda in a Twitter poll for Most Gay Media, and people are piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiissed

Things that surprised me as a European tourist in the United States
This is based on my experience as a Spaniard traveling to the United States (specifically New York City and Washington, D. C.).
Like many people around the world, I have grown up in contact with U.S. culture through literature, film, and music, so I didn't experience much cultural shock, but some things still surprised me.
All vehicles (cars, trucks, school buses...) are huge! Most cars are pickup trucks or SUVs. The most common brands came from the United States, but I also saw many Japanese cars, especially Nissan and Toyota (mostly Prius, USAmericans seem to love this model 😂).
Customer service is great, not only in restaurants or places where one is expected to leave a tip but also in museums and subway stations.
I heard many different languages spoken by locals, including Mandarin, Russian, and Spanish, as well as European languages spoken by tourists, such as French, German, and Portuguese. (I think that this is mostly the case in big cities, and especially NYC.) In general, the United States is more ethnically diverse than that in Europe, or at least Spain.
People wear face masks more often, although I guess that this is transient due to flu season. Still, way fewer people wear them in Spain.
Taxes are not included in the price. (I was aware of this but used to forget about it at first.)
Toilets are not as deep as in Europe (the water is really close to your butt 😖), and many flush automatically. Public restrooms always have seat covers but normally do not have a toilet lid.
The doors are really heavy! No wonder many people (mostly men) held them open for me. I once had to throw myself against the door to open it. What is the deal with doors in the U.S.? (Is it a NYC thing only?)
People were quite loud (and this is coming from someone who grew up in a country that is renowned for how loud we talk) and played music/videos without headphones in the subway 😑
Cops are surprisingly chill despite the reputation that they have. A guy was insulting a couple of them from across the subway platform, and they just smiled and waved at him. In Spain, it is a crime to insult a police officer, so I was surprised that they were so chill about the whole situation.
On that note, there were a lot of cops around the city at all times (even at 5 a.m.). I counted nine of them in Penn Station!
Drivers honk all the time because of every minor inconvenience. On Thanksgiving Day, there were a lot of traffic jams, and people were honking as if that would magically clear the streets... And, of course, if one person honked, the rest honked as well, so walking on the street on the main avenues was really deafening 😐
Traffic lights are quite far away from where cars have to stop.
Fire truck sirens are really loud and sound like emergency alarm systems. (It reminded me of those TikTok videos ranking them.)
People say "Excuse me" in the subway when going in or out, which was a nice change from the shoving and pushing I'm used to in Madrid.
I saw a lot of people carrying around huge reusable water bottles. (Here's an explanation for why USAmericans drink so much.)
Tumblr media
People called me "Ma'am" instead of "Miss". I know it's the polite way to address people, but it was very weird 😂
New Yorkers (maybe USAmericans in general) love to use cardinal directions (north, south, east, west) when giving directions. Someone once told me, "Go west on Broadway" and I was like "I have trouble orienting myself when I use Google Maps, do you think I know which direction I'm going in at all times??".
There are lots of caution signs about worker safety on construction sites, both in English and Spanish, which leads me to think that there are many work accidents 🤔
As a solo female traveler, I was a bit concerned about my security in a city that I have heard is dangerous and in a country where mass shootings are a relatively normal occurrence (unfortunately), but I felt mostly safe. I was surprised to see many posters that read, "If you see something, say something".
Related to the above, I was shocked to see "This is a gun free zone" posters in public places and "No guns allowed" posters on supermarket doors.
Tumblr media
I was really surprised to see ads with phone numbers with words in them, like the one below. After doing some research, I discovered they are called vanity numbers and are easier for people to remember. (If, like me, you're wondering how to dial these numbers, apparently you just press the number that corresponds to the letter on the keypad.)
Tumblr media
I smelled marijuana everywhere! Although illegal in Spain, you can also smell it sometimes, but it seemed ubiquitous in NYC. (I personally hate the smell, which is why I noticed.)

AND!! 5, 16, 18, 29 and 37 for vesper and fenix teehee >:^))
5. Nicknames? Pet names? Any in-jokes?
vesper doesn't do much pet names, her way of being affectionate is calling him Nix, no one else calls him like that (or is allowed to). veeeery rarely she might drop a baby but it's not a common occurence at all, in fact fenix immediately makes fun of her when she uses it jsdjfk
fenix is all about pet names and nicknames. he uses V when around other people as vesper prefers, ves occasionaly too; when it comes to pet names it's all over the place, baby is the most used, he uses passerotta (little sparrow) when he wants to act a lil silly :') tesoro (treasure), dear at times too
on in-jokes. this is mostly MY in joke for them but they have each other's contact saved as chicken boy and otter girl fjdsfh they have matching tattoos about this too
16. Do they keep secrets? Lie? Cheat?
fenix used to be a big liar & secrets keeper at the start, just his dumb ass and his inability to fully open up with people scared of the pain that could come with that <3 lying comes so easy to him too but these days he has no need nor intention of keeping that kind of attitude, at least not with vesper & the gang (if he lies it's plainly visible and he does it with the clear intention of joking around with them). still, he can be 'forgetful' about his past, let's remember for a second that it took (does the math) smth like 6 years for vesper to discover that he has an older brother, and it was on accident too lmao
18. What are their dates like? How long do/did they date? Do they ever feel the need to take a break from each other?
in their early history, they took lots of breaks from one another and they were never..positive (fenix just taking his stuff & disappearing for weeks with zero words) so they aren't fond of breaks nor want to take one after all that happened. as mentioned above they've know each other for 6 years (if we count until 2078, they get married at some point i just need to pick a date lmao) but dated basically from '72 to '74 before breaking up, going through the mess of the divorced couple that wasn't even married phase, and then getting back together at the end of '77. about the dates: night city is funny, and lively, so there's always so much to do and they both really like living the city (clubs, concerts, restaurants etc etc) but there's times when they just need some. silence. night city can be suffocating so, as mentioned in another ask, they like to just go on long car drives, preferably the badlands where barely anyone is there, or find little quiet spots around the city where it's just the two of them.
29. How do the handle disasters or emergencies? Minor injuries? Sickness?
being in their line of work makes you kind of used and reactive to emergencies so they don't exactly worry too much for one another (except very big crisis, the johnny problem kind of deal), plus they know they both can handle themself pretty well! i think the same line of thought can be used with minor injuries, they live dangerously so minor injuries can happen a lot, ofc they would prefer that the other never gets hurt but that's part of the job. sickness is funny, fenix is extremely dramatic about it and claims he's about to die for a simple flu while vesper needs to be physically restrained to take a break. so basically fenix wants to be cuddled and taken care of when sick while vesper literally needs to be sent to bed for the hundredth time bc she tried to still do things and stuff when barely being able to stand up jdfdjkf
37. How much would they be willing to sacrifice for the other? Any lines they refuse to cross?
i think there's little they wouldn't do for one another. fenix's line is a bit..more blurred. he's a ride or die, he'd do anything for vesper. on the other hand, i think vesper has more reserves. she puts daniel on first place and she's extremely protective of him, so i think that something that she wouldn't be willing to sacrifice for fenix is her brother.

A past life
Tumblr media
Bruce Whitefoot circa 1993
I’d like to honor the memory of my friend and past fire chief Doug Lorenson to this episode. Doug lost his long battle with leukemia at the too young of age of 35, and survived by 2 young children, and his Wife. Doug got on this department barely out of high school.
Thru the years, I’ve been a part of many organizations. Some of the day to day house keeping of these organizations was pure torture. Where as the main theme was glorious. I still support emotionally and spiritually at times the Fire Dept. But honestly, do not miss it.
The above shot, is 1993, before our house burned down. I had attended the National Fire Academy twice. Been fire chief.  With some exciting stories to tell. Can of skoal in shirt pocket. National Fire Academy hat. And a huge fire/rescue belt buckle.
I was hard core fire dept member from 1978 to 1994. Then asked to come back again in 1999. In 99, I was going to make an attempt to get 20 years under my belt. In 99, I just barely made it as a member/chief another year, and just had to get out. I just couldn’t do it any more.... note “burned out”.
Initially, joined just after Luke was born. No idea what I was getting into. Didn’t know if I could handle fire fighting or rescue. But thought that I’d just give it a shot, and do the best I can.
The at that time the current, Dept. was poorly trained at best, and had the best of intentions of “surrounding and drowning” all fire incidents (good ol’ boy syndrome), which wasn’t all that uncommon with rural depts. across Nebraski. Some are still that way today.
There was no Waverly Rescue then, .... we depended on Greenwood for rescue, and we would be first responders until they arrived. The “trauma” kit consisted of bandages from the early 60′s (free Civil Defense over stock), and a demand valve on a small tank. No one on the dept, had any medical training to speak of except for one member (Mike Danley), maybe others with a little first aid. Sorry but he couldn’t make every call.
Mike at this time was just starting to organize funding/approval for Waverly to start their own rescue squad. It was very early stages here. Mike had been on another rescue squad in the past, and saw the need.
Greenwood rescue, over 48% of all of their medical calls were to Waverly at that time. So they were all about us getting our own too.
I had been on WFD for less than a year, when I joined up with the beginnings of the Rescue Squad and became a charter member. Helping promote funding, and starting training. Mike’s presence then was a beast. Ultimate respect for him. Big guy, with a huge sense of humor, and tons of knowledge.
We got the rescue up and running. We were separate from Fire, not common, but you’d see it here and there. So I became a dual member. In some ways it was a rough go. Not all fire or rescue members got a long. BUT every call it appeared everyone was attempting the same goal.
The local Rural Fire, and the City Council had never ever spent so much money in budget before. That was a battle to convince them to make the plunge. Members of both groups wanted the rescue, but didn’t want to spend the money. Good folks made hard choices.
Thru the years... experience flew in my itty bitty head, and a lot stuck/stayed there. I’ve done CPR 4 times, actual hands on, with 1 surviving, and 2 of them coming back for a short period. Several actual structural fires (we didn’t really have that many, but we were called by neighboring FD to assist [Mutual Aid]). Car accidents full of carnage.... nightmare fest. Chemical incidents. Hazardous matericals, law enforcement incidents, Etc. Etc.
Attended State Fire school  in Grand Island every year I could. Took a few classes a couple of times.
Attended Rescue Schools in Kearney.
Attended National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg Maryland twice.
I was Doug Lorensons Assistant Chief on the FD, when we found out thru the grapevine we were considered “the best” fire/rescue this end of the State, and in the top 5 of the whole state, for volunteer FD and Rescue.
We could rock it.... oh lordy were we something back then. We held open seminars to any Dept’s that wished to attend. We trained heavily. Went to National Fire Academy.
A tiny fraction of our achievements:  First rescue to learn “shock trousers”. Awarded Rescue Dept. of the year. Farm equipment rescue seminar (Waverly sponsored). School bus rescue seminar (Waverly sponsored). Pump class sponsored. Fire Fighter 1 class sponsored. Free CPR classes for members and general public and groups. Emotional stability class sponsored. Jaws of life class sponsored. Air Bag rescue class sponsored. Mutual aid water hauling class sponsored. First in our area to sign on with Bryan Heart Team (they were pre paramedic). First volunteer dept, in this area with their own air compressor (LFD would come out to Waverly to fill tanks time to time)  .... Hi angle rescue training.  on and on, simply amazing
Our money by this time (late 80′s) was rolling in from a Bingo Parlor sponsor. So our equipment was nothing short of top shelf. All the schooling a member could handle.
These were the days that employers would support employees that belonged to civil service groups.
For example I worked at Lincoln Hoot and Hollar. I could be working anywhere, and if I got a fire/rescue call, they would get me there if needed, and they would pay me, no questions asked.
LTT was not the only company that did this. It wasn’t uncommon. In this area now, you never hear of it, and folks would think you were nuts to even suggest it.
Week day calls were tough back then, even worse now. Members who could make these calls were over worked and rarely appreciated. Never enough folks for support. Mutual Aid calls were common, just to get physical bodies to help.
Calls as one can suspect, very unpredictable. Have a call everyday for months. Then go 6 months with nothing. Participated in days where we would have 5 in 1 day. 8 on a weekend.
Often appeared on big holidays were almost a promise. My house fire is a prime example.... Xmas morning.
One Xmas holiday we had 2 structure fires (2 mutual aid fatalities) and a frost bite call all within 24 hours.
Lots of blood and guts with I80 running thru our district. Upwards of 50% of our calls were on I80.  Those calls could be very interesting also. Some very tough. One had several of our members reevaluating “what are we doing?”.
I won’t get into details here on these type of calls. They are not for open discussion to the public. More of a private conversation....
Still have some friends on the FD/rescue. But mostly I don’t know any of them. And I’d suspect they have never heard of me... especially since I’ve been gone since 1999.
Chief 2 times for total 3 years. Held every office of both organizations at one time or another. And a member of a separate appointment by the city council to “emergency preparedness”. CPR and Red Cross Safety Instructor for over 10 years. I taught to private groups and at LTT.
I do miss it at times. Believe it to be the adrenaline side of it. Miss that rush. Plus the afterglow when we really did something cool. Don’t miss butting heads with the government, or pig headed people.
President Reagan, did go out of his way to try and recognize and find money for the Volunteer Emergency Services of our country. At that time 85% of all emergency services were volunteer in our country. Other than being recognized I don’t think anything ever became of it.
Don’t know those numbers how they apply to todays world here in Waverlyland. I do know that they suffer dramatically on weekday calls.... worse than back then. I’ve heard because of this issue, it has taken its toll on existing members attitudes.
Find myself lucky to have survived all of this, and kept my head screwed on. Tough go at times.
Who knows what the future brings

Mexican Auto Insurance 101—What You Need to Know Before Hitting the Road
Are you an American or Canadian planning a drive to Mexico or an expat living there? If so, you should know that driving down Mexican roads is very different from what you are used to back home, and you will need a separate Mexico auto insurance policy to ensure your trip goes as smoothly as possible. Here's what you need to know about staying safe (and on the right side of the law) on your Mexico road trip.
#1: Be completely aware of your surroundings
You must follow the local rules when driving in Mexico, as well as adapt to a completely different driving culture. You might find the speed limits, signs, and lights unfamiliar and strange. So, stay alert and brush up on Mexican road rules before you cross the border.
#2: Stick to the toll roads
The Department of State recommends sticking to toll roads (or "cuotas") when driving in Mexico as these are safer and in better conditions. Additionally, if you need help (like if you want to call emergency or police services), you are more likely to get it on these roads, especially outside the big cities.
#3: Learn the different road elements
Prepare for the unique challenges of Mexican roads. Watch out for unmarked speed bumps (or "topes"), avoid potholes, and learn the "return system" for highway exits.
#4: Drive during daylight
Make it a point to only drive in Mexico during daylight hours. It's safer and easier, especially in less populated areas where you will find few police and emergency services around.
#5: Figure out the turn signals
Mexican turn signals can be confusing. On the highway, a left turn signal from the driver ahead might mean it's safe to pass. Keep your eyes open and you will understand the road language in no time.
#6: Know about driving on the shoulder
Sometimes, Mexican drivers will enter your lane to overtake. It's common practice there to drive on the shoulder to let them through. This might feel strange at first, but you will get used to it.
#7: Expect to communicate with the US Customs
If you are driving back to the US, you will have to stop at customs. Declare your Mexican purchases there. Also, check the US Customs and Border Protection website for prohibited and restricted items you can't bring to the US.
#8: Purchase a Mexico auto insurance policy
Your regular US car insurance will not work in Mexico. You need a separate Mexico auto insurance policy. This is your "proof of financial responsibility" in Mexico. It ensures you have the financial means to cover the damages resulting from a car accident.
Get your Mexico auto insurance quote today!
Preparing for driving in Mexico ensures you know exactly what to expect while driving in Mexico. And if you are looking for long-term or short-term insurance coverage options, contact West Coast Global Insurance Services. We can connect you with top-rated Mexican insurance companies. Trust A Pedestrian Accident Attorney In Los Angeles To Help After An Accident
Pedestrians are some of the most vulnerable people out there on the public roads, which is why, should one be involved in an accident, our pedestrian accident attorney in Los Angeles can help.
What Are Pedestrian Accidents? Pedestrian accidents are much more common than they should be since there are not enough protections for pedestrians here in Southern California. The region’s cities are designed to prioritize cars, not pedestrians, so the environment is often very hostile for those on foot. With this in mind, it is very important to exercise caution when walking on the street. But no matter how cautious you are, it is very possible that you will end up being the victim of some type of pedestrian accident. That’s what our pedestrian accident attorney in Los Angeles is here for, to help you in these situations.
Pedestrian Accidents The most common type of pedestrian accident is being hit by a vehicle, whether it is a car, motorcycle, truck, or bicycle. It is important to know that the vast majority of pedestrian accidents in California occur, not because of the pedestrian, but because of the driver of the vehicle, since they disrespect traffic laws and the pedestrian’s right of way. On top of this, pedestrians are much more unprotected and vulnerable to vehicles, so the responsibility for safety falls, more than anything, on drivers. "The Wrysons" (The Stories of John Cheever)
1950s Angst
This one might as well be called Fear: 1950s Style, becuase if there is anything that quite encapsulates the anxieties of the 1950s it would be nuclear war and men doing "women's work".
The Wrysons are introduced as assholes, the kind of assholes that make everyone around them pay for their exactitude. They are unfriendly. They don't like to read or watch movies or anything. There one passion involves bullying the entire community into maintaining their lawns and not building a library (there's no discussion of a library in this story but the previous story about Marcie Flint was big on everyone trying to block the library to keep the suburbs dull and underdeveloped).
Only then Cheever puts you in their heads. Irene dreams of nuclear war and in almost all of her dreams, she's killing herself and her daughter to avoid the nuclear fallout. You know this was the abiding fear of most of the 20th century. There might have been a year after WWII when big bombs that can destroy entire cities were cool, but then everyone got very scared. I believe that they got scared even before the Rosenbergs gave the USSR enough nuclear secrets to build nuclear bombs, but I don't know. I just know that I was alive in the 1980s and once America and Russia seemed to be backing away from the whole "hey let's have a war and everyone's invited" it was very hard to come up with new things to scare people.
Yes, the Satan Panic was there to fill the vacuum left by the anxiety around a nuclear bomb landing on your front yard. That's my theory and I'm sticking with it. At very least, it managed to scare the hell out of everyone until the big bad gangsta rappers came along to say Fuck da Police.
Does Ice Cube owe his career to Glasnost? Maybe i should upgrade my ADHD meds to Adderall.
So Mrs. Wryson is afraid of nuclear war, but Donald? Donald is a sad little boy in a man's body who can only deal with his depression by baking a cake in the same way that he baked a cake with his mother after his father left. The cake baking is his security.
Given the main ways that 1950s men dealt with their depression, cake baking seems downright healthy. Only Donald is way too hidden away from his emotions to even admit to it.
And how does John Cheever end this? He dangles a tragic ending. It appears like he's presented his characters in two ways - how the community sees them and how they see themselves. So what happens?
In the tragic ending, Donald dies in a car accident on his way from a community meeting and Irene breaks a hip which eventually leads to her death. The daughter is taken in by relatives.
But instead let's have a downer ending that isn't melodramatic. Irene wakes up to a burning smell, thinks its the war and goes into the kitchen to see Donald sleeping as he burns the cake. She doesn't get him. She doesn't understand why he's baking the cake and he's not about to tell her. Just like she's not about to tell him about her dreams.
They are a married couple but they have their secrets. I guess all couples have things they keep from each other, but this one is kind of sad. Still they will bully the rest of the community together so Donald is fine without sharing his weakness with Irene and Irene isn't about to tell Donald about her dread of nuclear war (a common dread but probably not in that extreme).
Ultimately this is Cheever at his most economical. Here are the characters as we see them. Here they see themselves. Let's give it a synthesis ending, but Cheever never goes exactly where you think.

“Cyberpunk: Edgerunners”: Transhumanism in a capitalist distopy
This anime shows us the story of David Martinez, a young boy who lives with his mother (Gloria Martinez) in the huge and technologically advanced Night City, where you are worth as much money you have and as much body upgrades you have. David goes to a private school which his mother is able to pay only because she, besides her regular job, sells these cybernetic implants to criminals who want to enhance their bodies, these criminals are known as cyberpunks.
During a car accident caused by cyberpunks, Gloria gets injured and later dies, so David is left alone and with several bills to pay. David discovers that his mother stole a militar implant called Sandevistan, which improves its user speed and reflexes, so he takes it to a doctor to get it installed, acquiring a great power.
David, while wandering around the city, meets Lucy, a pickpocket member of a cyberpunk gang, which later on the series David joins.
We notice that the city is ruled by mega-companies and how these provide the goods and services, and how and to who they provide them, for instance, we see in the car accident that Gloria isn’t the only one who gets injured, so when paramedics show up, they only help a guy who is an executive of one of the big companies, because he is a client who can pay for that service, and leave Gloria and David alone, so David has to take his mother to the only hospital he can afford, which is a very precarious one, which is why they couldn’t save her life. We can see that the city is heavily polarized, where some hoard most of the wealth, and the rest have to exploit their own labor or become cybercriminals.
So, its shown how these companies control the city, and how there isn't a state that helps its citizens, we only see the state in the Night City Police Department and a sub-group of the police called MaxTac, that specializes in dealing with Cyberpsychos, that are cyberpunks who have gotten too many implants on their bodies, so they end up losing their minds and becoming too dangerous to society. Due to the resentment David holds against rich people, he rejects a scholarship to his school, offered to him by one of the two biggest companies, so he becomes a cyberpunk, the gang turns into his new family, but their leader, in his desire to gain more power becomes a cyberpunk and its quickly taken down by MaxTac, this puts David and the rest of the gang under a lot of trauma. The years go by and we see that David is the new leader, but has gotten too many upgrades, so he starts to manifest symptoms of cyberpsychosis, while he and the gang accept a job to steal information for one of the two big companies, only to realize they fell into a trap to be eliminated.
In this world, where companies control everything and capitalism is savage, common people are either exploited or become criminals. It appears to be a free world, but it only is like that for the wealthy, and companies know that cyberpunks crave freedom, so they use them to do their dirty work, to sabotage other companies, use them as goons and benefit from their illegal activity, so cyberpunks are forced to enhance their bodies with technological implants, blurring the boundaries of being a human or a machine, while making them ill on the process, so when they're no longer useful, these companies get rid of them, contributing to this cycle of violence and oppression.

Reed's Point (2022)
I feel like I'm gonna have a lot to say about this one because it's my motherfuckin HOME STATE
The glitch edits are really good so far I've been so preoccupied with shitty edits in horror movies for so long I forgot there were people who can actually do it right
The acting is a little wooden but it's low budget I'll allow it
This dad is SUCH an NJ dad omg
Oh come on a big RV like that can take hitting a deer you wouldn't swerve like that you'd just hit the brakes and hope for the best
NOOOOO THAT COSTUME IS SO BAD OMGGGG
"folklore nonsense" if you are studying folklore, you don't call it nonsense
Oh okay I get it it's not the Jersey Devil it's just angry Pineys pulling a cryptid scam
Dude's right it could have easily been a bear
This girl's attitude towards journalism is gonna land her a shit gig with buzzfeed if she gets a career in her field at all
Every movie set in NJ needs a diner scene
"I've lived here my whole life" okay where'd that southern accent come from
THEIR COFFEE CUPS ARE FULL
They wouldn't close the whole road because of an accident a year ago there'd be a little shrine near where it happened and it'd be traffic as usual
"looks nice enough" as he is actively loading a rifle and leading you into the woods when you did no background checks on him
Eyyyyyy they got the origin mostly right instead of making up some bullshit to make it "extra scary"
"I don't understand why we're stopping for a rest we're almost there" uh dude you're hiking off trail it takes a lot out of someone who doesn't hike regularly
A WOLF????
OKAY LISTEN THE ONLY WOLVES I'VE EVER SEEN IN NJ WERE AT AN ENCLOSED NATURE PRESERVE I'M PRETTY SURE THEY'RE NOT COMMON ENOUGH TO HUNT
Yeah just double checked there are no wolves in the wild in NJ I remember a long time ago there were rumors of a wild wolf being spotted but I don't think it was ever confirmed
"no service" THEN HOW DID ALEX CALL YOU EARLIER FROM THE SAME AREA
Sarah's haircut somehow gets worse as the movie goes on
Y'know movies like to act like a bright moon provides good visibility in the woods at night but I lived in the woods most of my life heavy tree cover means it is dark like you cannot just wander through aimlessly with no flashlight and get anywhere of value
Again "no service" yet there's a very modern wifi powered cash register right next to them and it's a pretty busy roadway outside okay yeah this area has noooo serrrrvice why is it the interpretation of NJ is either endless cities, The Shore, or some deep south backwoods nowhereville
Okay and we have to have a crack at millennials even though these are clearly gen z kids
This is a very dedicated professor? TA? They didn't really make it clear what relation she is to these kids
SHE GOT UP AFTER THAT????
AHA IT IS PINEYS IN SUITS
*finally finds her cousin who everyone said was dead for a year* oh hey Kelsey what are you doing here
This is so bad omfg
I just looked up cast and crew there's like a single writer who's from NJ everyone else is California, Midwest, Florida, Maryland, etc. Oh and she didn't write the screenplay she just came up with the story
This movie is so bad ugh why am I still watching it
WTF WAS THAT ENDING
Side note NJ cop cars have different looking license plates they don't look like standard plates they have MUNICIPAL clearly printed on them
Bad. Sucked. Would not suffer through again.
