Gus, reading a recipe: “Beat three eggs.”

Hunter: In what? Hand to hand combat?

Camelia: Please stop letting them in there without supervision.

(I imagine Hunter has always had cafeteria lunches provided by the Coven, and has no idea how to use a kitchen. Gus has a single parent, so he can probably cook some stuff, and is confident enough to try, but doesn't understand human recipes and ingredients... or appliances. At least they're both good at cleaning.)

owl house au where everything is the same except Luz is a toddler and Camelia has to learn magic instead of Luz

She was uneasy about this.

The last two humans that had walked in? One had accepted his gifts without question, enjoying life on his corpse without a care. The other had seized them and now ruled over his corpse with a bloody fist.

Still, she looked at the new humans, and her heart ached, just a bit.

They were a mother and child. The mother looked around the world with wary eyes, her first priority ensuring her child got shelter. The Owl Witch had allowed them to stay. He wasn't sure why the mother didn't want to return to her world, the portal was there, but he didn't question it.

The daughter made her melt.

She loved King, barely out of his egg. His son's name was not the one they had picked out, but it suited him. Despite being barely older than him, she was careful with him and he with her. She would rock him to sleep, if her mother or the Owl Witch didn't step forward fast enough, and kiss him goodnight before going to bed herself. It all reminded him of his older children, the ones who had gotten old enough to take care of some of the younger ones, before he had lost them all.

She loved her son, and it was enough to make her love her.

So, maybe Camila Noceda could earn his gifts, enough to protect her daughter.

Also what do you think Octo folk music would sound like?

Whoops, didn't mean to paint Camila Noceda as a bad guy but yes she Really didn't have a choice here. I like more nuanced takes but Octarain society is most likely run completely by DJ Octavio which means it's probably a military state or based on a daimyo. When a military officer, that being Luz's training officer, "suggests" something as a punishment, it's Not a Suggestion. And of course, it's not like the Hpyno-shade program would be framed or pitched to Camila as a Bad Thing either. They'll help her focus and remind her what's really important. She'll be trained around other "troubled" individuals, etc., etc. The other option was They take Luz anyway.

Besides, it's not like Camila doesn't love Luz. She does! Genuinely truly loves her daughter. But she is a single widowed mother trying to provide for a kid who does HAVE Problems and Camila makes mistakes like everyone else.

I think there was a misconception in the fandom as a whole that I might make a separate post about later but the gist of it is, I think people see Camila as either this horrible inattentive mother who didn't understand her daughter...or as a paragon of motherly kindness who does her best...which, honestly? The truth is probably she's somewhere on the upper middle end of a good mother there, the two probably have a disconnect and don't communicate. It's because we saw so little interaction between Luz and her mother throughout the series. I'm excited to see what happens in season 3.

Now, there are two separate ways I can answer the folk song part of the ask. Disregarding the fact that all the "mainstream" Octoling music artists are DJs, the first way I could answer is probably the most lore-friendly to splatoon. Looking at how Octavio is presented to us throughout the game, what with his kabuto helmet and what I believe is a kimono in the sunken scroll and one of the octarian bosses being The "Octo Samurai", it's safe to assume that the octarians are coded as Japanese inspired which...has interesting...err...connotations. That we are definitely not talking about now.

Which means that octarian Folk songs are probably Japanese Folk Songs. Which, I'll admit I am not...terribly familiar with. Because that's a HUGE selection of songs and history that I'm just not familiar with.

However, this is an AU and I am more familiar (slightly) with Spanish folk songs. There is a fairly good record of Mexican folk songs by Alfonso Cruz Jimenez which has the kinda soft sound I can see singing in the quiet. But if you want specifics specifics, I can absolutely see Camilia singing Tú Eres Mi Sol as a lullaby for Luz.

Now! If we really want to pull from their Dominican roots and have more fun with it because come on, of course, we do. There is the Merengue genre which is this really fast dancing style that I would describe as high energy, it feels like it's constantly in Cut Time for any music nerds out there. Luz would like something fast and fun and be goofy too while the two danced and sang along. An example would be La Dueña Del Swing by Los Hermanos Rosario or basically anything by Joseito Mateo but I personally like Éxitos En Vivo.

Fairly certain that the last paragraph could be applied to headcanons for canon Owl House. Course they would also probably have fun singing just about anything as long as it was together. Camila seems to be, to me at least, the type of person who would sing while cooking? Luz as well now that I think of it.

Anyway, that one escaped from me haha. I think I am physically incapable of short posts! I would love to hear what people think they should listen to. Both in canon and in the Squid House AU. Haha, Luz probably has some really interesting music tastes in canon. Good Ask by the way!

Owlet Au headcannons- Camelia Noceda

ok and were back sorry for the absence (school stuff you know?) anyways to the headcannons we go!

-Camelia Noceda was a human doctor disguised as a witch in the boiling isles, the best even however all of that changed

-when Luz was still her mother’s tum, Camelia was praying that she would be a witch for she was scared that if word got out that a human was living on the boiling isles well...

-unfortunately her daughter turned out to human, and for 2 months she was able to keep Luz a secret but alas Camelia knew that eventually someone would find out

-so the doctor swaddled her child in the warmest blanket and headed to the conformatorium hoping Eda would find and care for luz but alas the Emperor got to the little one
