Atlas of The Boiling Isles: The Skull
Tumblr media
Maps of The Titan's sacred Skull these days are practically non-exsistent. The allure of the cranium's mysteries are supressed by a cordon crafted by the Plant Coven by order of the Emperor.
Once, before a time of sigils and covens, many Witches from all walks of life journeyed here to seek a higher connection with their dead god. Smooth architecture of spiraling staircases and intricate carvings within stout bone lead to The Titan's Inner Mind.
Reculse Witches and Demonkin who devoted their lives to upkeep the eurodite halls within the skull, assisted many wanderers with their journey to feel a glimpse of The Titan's encompassing presence. There is only one entrance and one exit.
The journey begins by delving into The Maw and then exits at the crown, where Titan's Watch sees all.
Now, no sane Witch dares to cross the threshold into the Mandible. Rumors of The Titan’s rage strikes all who enter, punishing his Children for its use of Wild Magic.
Old Farmers on The Neck warn wayward adventurers, you will no longer find answers within The Titan’s Mind. Only death, screams, and laughter of foolish children who made the same mistake as you once did.

Alright listen here and listen good cause I’m only going to say this once. Yes and no. Yes technically everything you just described is “Sweet Tea” but it ain’t Sweet Tea like our mommas make. Because the real deal tastes a hundred times better.
What you wanna do is you want to grab a brand of tea leaves, any will do but Liston’s is a preferred and staple choice. You grab yourself a proper kettle or a cast iron pot, you keep this pot separate from the others because it’s special. It’s your tea kettle or tea pot, and it’s gonna absorb the favors over the years and make your tea taste better the more you use it. Because you AIN’T gonna use it for Anything Else. Else you’ll ruin it and be in for a scolding you wouldn’t believe. You are going to use two or three tea packets at once because you’re gonna be making enough to fill a gallon pitcher at the very least. After you get it boiling and done and all, you’re gonna take it off the stove, which best be the way you do it don’t you dare microwave that water, and pour it directly into your gallon pitcher. It should be filled up about half way or so. And you fill up the rest with tap water. I know some folk who prefer filtered or bottled water but honestly regular tap is fine enough. Then after all that is said and done you add enough sugar to give you enough cavities for your dentist to retire on. Or to taste. Whichever comes first. And you Best be using Real Sugar. None of this Splenda Bullshit, nah nah nah, you use REAL Sugar Cane 100% and everything. Else you setting yourself up for disappointment. Stir it real good with a WOODEN SPOON. And you all set.
Now you got yourself a nice HOT gallon of Sweet Tea, you either add ice for drinking now or set it in your fridge for later.
And there you go. Proper Southern Sweet Tea.
Okay to any US Southerners can you help me understand sweet tea... Like if I get sweetened iced tea at a store it's pre-sweetened. Is that sweet tea? I just call it iced tea. Like sometimes at convenience stores I'll get an iced tea and it's sweetened and it came sweetened. Is that sweet tea? Usually the brand I get is Pure Leaf. Most restaurants at the fountain/soda machine, there's two big pitcher things of unsweetened iced tea and sweetened iced tea. It's not labeled as sweet tea, just sweetened iced tea. Is that considered sweet tea? I often hear Southerners say that sweet tea is different than sweetened iced tea because sweetened iced tea implies you add the sugar to iced tea, which doesn't work because it takes forever to dissolve...but if I order a sweetened iced tea, it's pre-sweetened. Like, I have never once been given plain iced tea and a sugar packet.
The brands of iced tea I see for the dispensers is usually "homemade" at the restaurant, or Golden Peak or Fuze. There's often a dispenser for unsweetened and sweetened, and if there's flavors or a flavored one they're definitely sweetened. Like, that to me is sweetened iced tea. But is that considered sweet tea? Because whenever I've asked Southerners, I've been told those are two different things, but where I'm from (West Coast), we would call that sweetened cold tea sweetened iced tea...what's the difference??
Like, I would call Arizona teas sweetened iced tea...are those considered sweet tea?? Are Snapples considered sweet tea??

The Story
“Come one, come all for on this night a story shall be told!
One, for children, witches, demons, and even hags of old!
I sing to you a tale about the Bloody Eye!
One the Titan lost fighting, due to petty lies!”
Tumblr media
“The Titan had a sister, Hel her Given name!
The Titan had power, one Hel had to claim!
The siblings fought, fairly matched, neither one could beat!
The siblings fought, fairly matched, until Hel’s deceit!”
Tumblr media
“Through trickery and illusion, Hel made a single strike!
The Titan’s eye was gouged, and thrown into the night!
Enraged by betrayal, the Titan fell to his knees!
His tears falling freely, making the raging Boiling Sea!”
“Let this be a lesson for those who crave deception!
Do not be caught like Hel, do so with discretion!
Or if you seek the truth, like the Titan beneath us lies!
Do not fall for duplicity or you will gain a Bloody Eye!”
——————————
You’ve read The Story before! How about again with some visuals?
I commissioned @kgproductions-tmblr to draw out two stanzas from Bonesborough Story told this year at the Lunar Shadow Festival! They did an AMAZING job drawing the mural style we see Eda’s presents as King’s “origin story” in Episode 1!
And if you like Worldbuilding they have something fantastic in the works involving the expansion of Titan culture! And a what if question of: “What if the Titans weren’t extinct? Just hiding?”
Keep an eye out for their Concealed Kingdom AU! Its going to be something amazing!

Just watched the finale since I Finally had some free time!
Trying not to go absolutely crazy about just about everything haha!
Like how Belos becomes a cancerous creature that has to piggyback off of others to do damage and see his ideologies and genocide through. And becomes his most destructive once he takes over and hijacks something basically sacred, the Boiling Isles itself. And Luz, King, and Eda (Raine as well) had to literally tear him out of the heart of the isles. Removing Every Trace of Him. And how that could be a metaphor for such dangerous ideologies and how damaging and difficult it could be once they get into the Root of a Society and Government.
And of course about how Belos stans are fuming right now, that will never Not brighten my day haha
About The Titan. Like The Titan Titan. Oohhhohohoho The Titan! A gender fluid god! I loved his design! And also is no one else going to talk about the Hooty like creature coming out of his socket? Which immediately brought to my mind at least those parasites that attach themselves to the eyes of sharks? Is Hooty a type of parasite creature that used to feed off of titans? Maybe less of a parasite and more of a symbiotic relationship?
Or the fact that the glyphs were semi confirmed as a Language. The Language of the Titans themselves. Does that mean that Runic is the Witch’s written language and Glyphs were the Titans or were both passed down? Ahh the questions, the QUESTIONS!!!
Also can we talk about how poignantly tragic the Titan’s true death was? How Belos managed to commit ONE last tragedy before his death? He annihilated the magic behind the Titan’s glyphs? I don’t think I can properly convene how cruel or or I don’t know Evil that is. He erased the meaning behind them. King, the Sole Remaining Titan, has to Recreate his own language.
I hate that man. Haha but I loved his death scene. I was kinda convinced that he wasn’t going to die, that he was basically going to be trapped in the in between place like The Titan. But OOOH BOY what we got instead was PERFECT haha!
Speaking of perfect, MARZ! MARZ MARZ MARZ! TITAN LUZ?! TITAN LUZ!!! AHHHH THAT ENTIRE SEQUENCE WAS AMAZING!
ALSO THE EPILOGUE!!! Ahhh I died seeing them all grow up and the rebuilding off the isles! All the little details in the backgrounds like the fact that people starting building all the arm and the palisman groves and the basilisks and Bump doing gardening and the detention track kids being teachers and the removal of the brands! And Boscha maybe being friends with the Hexsquad considering she was invited to Luz’s not quite a quinceanera but close enough and speaking of the Hexsquad, ALL THEIR OLDER DESIGNS!!! And EDA’S PIRATE HOOK HAND! also apparently Raine’s fox palisman is named Fiddlesticks? I think I saw that somewhere on Twitter but I still need to fact check that, ALSO THE QUINCEANERA! Also also I saw someone point out that Camilla had a combination of Raine’s and Eda’s ear rings and someone said that meant she was brought into Eda and Raine’s polycule which made me chuckle haha
*cough cough* anyway, fangirling over.
But Hoooooooo I am over the moon! OVER THE MOON! The finale was so good. There is probably more stuff to go over and believe me when I have time to relax (job hunting sucks I have no free time now a days) I will be BOMBARDING you with questions. But Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!
YEAHHHHHH YOU SUMMED YOU MY SIMILAR FEELINGS PERFECTLY DUDE!!!!

The Collector’s Magical Kingdom of Appropriation
The Collector’s reign over the Boiling Isles is actually a huge illustrated metaphor of cultural appropriation. Sure, there are the more blatant signs of full on colonialism and genocide. We plainly see the entire native population is either enslaved or hidden away in fear, while Collector takes their territory for himself. But The Owl House has always spent time being a mirror held up to the consequences of the fantasy genre, and the desires of its fans.
Tumblr media
Think of the stars with eyes that Collector uses to decorate the Isles, and deploys as enslaver drones. Why the star shape? It’s not just a reminder of how he/they are technically a little kid. It’s the overriding aesthetic of the Collector society. They seem to live in the cosmos itself, their clothes have celestial bodies all over them, and each one of them apparently had a phase of the moon stamped on their faces. So in order to make the Boiling Isles more appealing to himself, Collector stamped his local iconography all over them. He/They took one look at the native architecture and design and decided it wasn’t suitable to his wants. Along with morphing the citizens into wood and plaster, he gave them redesigned and rebranded outfits. Even the local ecology and vistas were crudely plastered over, to the point that a newcomer like Camila Noceda couldn’t distinguish what elements were original.
Tumblr media
And these aesthetics are designed to wage war with each other. The inhabitants and architecture of the Boiling Isles are modeled after the free-range bizarreness of Hieronymus Bosch. The most mundane utilities are steeped in the macabre, and nobody even blinks an eye at. This reflects how the Witch civilizations have mimicked the dead giant that gave rise to their existence. Possibly how they’re so at ease with the very concept of death, since they live with the reminder of it’s inevitability, and how it can bring beauty.
What Collector prefers is an 80’s G-rated fantasy kiddie cartoon in the vein of Care Bears.
Tumblr media
There’s also the metanarrative aspect with how Luz’s entire story has been passed on. The Collector has spent all these months play-acting Luz’s life; all her accomplishments, and all her sacred bonds. Yes it was King’s suggestion; “the Owl House” game. But Collector obviously loves it. Yet Collector has nothing but contempt for Luz herself, even as a concept. He/They get pouty or mopey whenever she gets referenced. We’ve all seen this pattern of thought with bad faith arguments from chuds online, when it comes to certain franchises. Where they don’t actually have any problems with the story or the particular tropes, they just get pissy when the protagonist is a female or person of color. Collector calls Luz “that human,” like who she was born as is an insult.
The only person Collector treats anything like a peer is King, because he is also a species that reaches Godhood. All the lesser species can be treasured pets, at best. The Collector shares a mindset (or at least outward habits) with bigoted gatekeepers, where the joys of a story or franchise aren’t deserved by people who don’t remind them of themselves. Even if those different types of people are the ones who created the story in the first place. Their accomplishments are only worthwhile if HE can use them, including stamping his name and face on them. Colonialism doesn’t just steal the fruits of labor, they steal your stories of the past, present, and future.
:/:/:/:/:/:/:/:/:/:/:/:
As an aside, the actions of erasure also extend to the only remotely real bond Collector has, King. Which isn’t surprising given that he’s literally redecorating and playing games with the corpse of King’s dad. The process King’s gone through is assimilation by way of involuntary adoption. King is dressed in Collector clothes, lives in a Collector palace (built atop his dad’s resting place), and learns Collector lore as he reads Collector bedtime stories. Meanwhile, his mom and auntie are living behind bars while they scrounge for their prescriptions.
Although this isn’t quite the intended assimilation like Collector has done for the entire Isles and witch-kind; he/they are just offering King what they enjoy most, which mostly defaults to what they’re already familiar with. That’s just normal for kids, and people in general.
I believe this is a different kind of warning Collector poses to anyone who enjoys stories, and all us involved in fandom. Not just the terror of artistic gentrification. It’s seeking out stories, characters and settings to only fulfill our own desires and preferences. Searching for only baseline wish fulfillment can trap us in a bubble that stops us from growing. Then if something is unique or incongruous, we either throw it away or end up mangling the interpretation. And when art is swept aside and destroyed, we’re also degrading where it came from. It’s creator, it’s people, and it’s country.
:/:/:/:/:/:/:/:/:/:/:/:
youtube
When King first came into his Titan power, I thought it seemed strange that it was a vocal attack. Just because the actual physical noises of the Titan - speech, language, cries - have never had any prominence in this show. Descriptions or theories of how that species have never been included in the lore reveals, or the musings or sayings of the local populace. The closest we’ve gotten is Belos’s original lie, “I am the voice of the Titan.”
I assumed it was meant to contrast with King’s squeaky voice and grand boasts being his main source of comedy. And just basic symbology about puberty. But after writing all this, I’m convinced it was setting up how to save the day from whatever Belos and Collector will try to inflict.
King will stand with his mother and sister (and hopefully aunt and Hooty) and they ALL scream out that what they have is perfect. They scream to prove they exist, and they don’t need to write any coherent song or reasonable argument to prove or earn that right. Their identity, their self perception and self respect, is their power. The most basic of expression can annihilate oppressors, as long is it’s honest. And of course, coordinated noise is a great opportunity for some musician to get involved.

Big thanks to @marztheincredible for Beta’ing the preceding essay concerning this very histories and complex subject.

Haha alright alright but you best believe that I will be returning to this question later! I’m just excited about future plot points. Hehe you have no idea how many questions I’m holding back because I know it’s too soon to be asking them. Like for Grom. Or Memory tweezers. Or galdor stones. Or coven scout Steve.
Also geez I can imagine some pretty serious illnesses have resurged through the population. If there are very few people in rural areas and most of everyone is in the “safety” of the dense cities. Not a great place to be when it comes to highly infectious (probably also now drug resistant) diseases…I’m going to write out a different question to get my mind off of the implications…
…question
so the bile sack is obviously going to be competing for space in the chest. which would mean some organs are going to have to…essentially shrink…and the only real way I can see that happening is by atrophy. and well one of the lungs is a prime candidate. which would probably lead to quite a number of health problems in at least the short term. shortness of breath, vulnerability to infection (of bacterial or fungal), chest pains, etc etc
so I suppose my question is how much more serious is this eventual common mold infection going to be?
Also been thinking about the brands and the weakened hearts of all the coven witches, the weakening of both the Potion and Healing Covens, diseases are probably a MUCH deadly force on the boiling isles than the human realm right?
….Answer
You’re jumping ahead Dragon! Eager and asking questions I can’t answer yet smh. You know what gif you gotta use my dude. 😌
As for diseases in general. You’re right on the money on illness and infections being much worse than they were in years past. There are such things as immunizations on the Isles. Potions taken at a young age and created by the bright minds of Healers and Potioneers of Old. Brewed with today’s standards, they’ve become less effective, which leads into a resurgence of some Boiling Isles viruses that were thought to be eradicated.

My work got stolen and plagerized on ao3 again.
The culprit turned out to be a creep who tried to write me down as a co-author on his fic despite me having never met or spoken to him before.
After the first incident, I just rejected the co-author link and went on with my life.
Then he gifted me a work. I just deleted the email because I didn't want to encourage anything.
Turns out this was a mistake because last night I received a warning from a commenter that someone had posted a fic that was a straight copy and paste of my fic, What Big Claws, as well as the work of others.
The 'author' in question goes by the handle Nick_Uzamaki and the Fic is The Eda Daughter, which, sounds about as Ai generated as you would expect from a cheap copy of someone else's work.
I've left him a comment telling him off, but I thought I would let others know because this person has reportedly not only stolen my work but the work of others as well.
Provided below is a link to the fic in question, feel free to look up the rest of this poster's work to see if you or anyone you know has also had their work copied without permission.

Yeah yeah! You’ll all get your rant. I just want to research some things first…and also maybe talk to some people. But you’ll get your rant about dictators and the destruction of self and how it pertains to lots of things here in the next few weeks.
Check the tags. I ramble there for some stupid reason.
But the long and short of it is. I’m dying at work so expect the full rant and ramble in like March. Also if you knows things. DM me.
#splatoon#splatoon 3#splatoon theory#holy hell did that last post get a ton of notes#I didn’t even realize how many people wanted to see me ranting and razing like a lunatic#what the hell#it’s mostly going to be speculating on octoling society and comparing the thematics of color and coral to the inkling lifestyle#and possibly the invasion or take over of traditionally afirican American mediums by “white artists. like I said I want to talk to others#also me digging through old nuclear testing results/photos#and asking good ol nuclear grandpa the affects it has on oceanic ecosystems#and if bleached coral came about some of those tests or if it’s more due to climate change and all the trash#lots of stuff#so if you know anything about that hit me up in the DM’s and I’ll get back to you when I’m not dying of stress#so like…a week or two#rambling in the tags#also potentially how the mainstream culture flushes out dangerous/creative/colorful work until it is more palatable to maintaining order#and not causing ripples. so like why most of the really angry songs don’t turn up on the radio unless they are really REALLY good#or can be mistaken for other messages. ie why 100+ songs were banned after 9/11 type stuff which is not what I want to talk about#but I might be. WHO KNOWS ITS MY RANT#I’d Rather Talk Fun Stuff like NUCULAR WARNING SITES#AND OCTOLING CULTURE AND HOW SANTAZATION AND BLEACH SHARE A SIMIALR DEFINITION#AND JUST OCTOLINGS AND MEMORIES#it’s going to be a good time.#we have fun here

Haha I suppose I will have to, fine then keep your secrets. I shall be patient.
Howdy, loving A Kidnapping by Any Other Name it is absolutely fantastic.
Question.
How badly is Wednesday going to take destroying Enid’s things (like Enid was afraid her mother was going to do) after she gets her memories back? Because I am in this for the anguish
Why hello there stranger!
I'm really glad that you're loving the story; it's definitely been really fun to write so far, so I'm glad people have been enjoying it.
As for your question:
Sorry, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see, won't we? ;)

The air has grown heavy in the room, its heat now stifling. “There are myths of old that tell tales of humans who stumble into our realm. Some return to their homeland. While others disappear, never to be seen again.” Anora waves her hand and the scanned image of Luz diminishes in a cloud of smoke. “However, what many fail to discuss is that some of these humans never disappeared. They thrived here, embracing The Titan’s gift to his Children.”
Anora smiles and within that expression, Eda notes that ‘The Wandering Abyss’ looks like her true age at this moment. The final statement that Anora gives them in the cacophony of Old Tongue leaves no room for argument or doubt.
“This child has been Blessed, The Titan has chosen wisely and so have you Owl Lady.”
Her gaze falling back to Luz, Anora places her right hand above her heart and bows.
“May you be ever Remembered, witchlet.”
—Titan’s Blessing Chapter 25:His Gift

I commissioned @jacket-lipstick to draw this amazing scene from Titan’s Blessing! They did a fantastic job depicting Anora, our lovely shadow grandma! Go follow Jac! They do amazing work and their art is phenomenal!

Question
One of the many I have in light of the newest episode and will be asking in the coming days but
Snakeshifter. What a fantastic choice for Luz’s palisman! Stringbean is an interesting name choice but that’s all besides the point.
Question is if Snakeshifters are a natural animal on the Boiling Isles or if it is a wholly unique creature specific to Luz?
And of course simply to say I WAS RIGHT (partially) IT WAS A SNAKE HAHA
Oh I think Stringbean being a unique creature of her own is amazing and fits Luz perfectly. Like her Palisman, Luz doesn’t conform or fit in with societal standards.
The bestie Jessi (urbanbirdbud) has a big brain 🧠 and went HAM on when Luz carved the egg and how as a whole Luz’s journey is the freedom to choose. (Jessi if ur reading this I’m holding you at gunpoint ily DROP THE ESSAY) 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾
Tumblr media
But yes you were right!!! Also I would die for Stringbean

No I can’t. I won’t rant about the cephalopods. That there are pictures of what look to be nuclear waste disposal sites and ideas of how when humans are long gone how we’d terrify away sentient life with the disturbing pillars. Of what appears to be a dead whale skeleton and how that could be referencing a “whale fall” where an entire ecosystem develops around the carcass as it decomposes and is eaten by hundreds of creatures smaller than it. Like how splatoon world and culture is influenced by what dead humans left behind (and their hopes and dreams). Of how everything looks to be taken over by bleached coral, the results of algae (responsible for the magnificent colors of reefs) fleeing coral due to stress from pollution and climate change. Of potential new Marina and Pearl lore and more Agent 8 and memory dives and an authoritarian regime that seeks to erase your entire being and make you into a colorless disposal clone for their use. I can’t…
Unless someone asks me to. In which case I will ABSOLUTELY RANT ABOUT ALL THAT!!!

Question
Many questions. Like holy moly a lot of questions but I will restraint myself. The newest episode has left me giddy with excitement and I figured it’s been long enough to start digging without spoiling people.
So, any fun new “Other” lore with the new information we got about the Collector in the newest episode? Like them being responsible for the near extinction of the Titans? The “Others”/Collectors being essentially natural museum archivists with no qualms about literal genocide if people get in their way? (That whole scour the earth and skies line Im the book was a bit…eerie let’s go with eerie).
Also. The Puppets. That’s creepy. Like…nightmare fuel and playthings to a higher power eldritch horror creepy. We can kinda guess that the Owlbeast was “collected” by a different Collector/Other since they were put into a scroll whereas our Collector seems to be doing it by turning everything into Puppets…so what are some other ways the Collectors archive the people and animals they come across…
Geez I’m think I’m just going to refer to the Collector’s people as the “Others” from now on and the Collector as the Collector. Because it’s annoying referring to them both as the Collectors
Last one for now, but what do you think the Titan Other war was like? Because it seems like they both wiped each other out. Since we don’t see any Others poking about and the Boiling Isles…you know exist and isn’t a dead rock. Course we don’t know for sure and they are seemingly a space faring super powerful civilization soooo there could be more Others and they just avoid the Boiling Isles for reasons…
Anyway, screaming screaming excitement I loved the latest episode there is so much to talk about and discuss more screaming bye
So as you could probably tell from my Twitter and sudden hyperfixation of making edits from the new episode, I LOVED it. I have so many words that are a MESS in my head. The lore dump this ep….WHEW.
The information that the Collectors just wipe out the planet if the denizens become aware of their presence hit me like a truck. I tried to scour the right hand page for more words and saw “Dimension” in there which opens ANOTHER CAN OF WORKS THAT OM GOING FERAL OVER JESUS CHRIST.
Tumblr media
*Cough* Excuse me. ANYWAYS. I’m pleasantly surprised with these recent developments and as for the Others/Collectors in TB. Narratively for what’s to come about them, it fits PERFECTLY. I’m excited!!!
As for the Titan vs Other war from what we can gather from The Collector’s child like murals and “Edge of the World” The Others used deception to win.
A primordial being on par and eradicating a celestial one that roams the stars is impressive and terrifying. The Titans were so powerful in this realm that they threatened the Others very existence.
Deception is key….that sounds oddly familiar!
“The Titan had a sister, Hel her Given name!
The Titan had power, one Hel had to claim!
The siblings fought, fairly matched, neither one could beat!
The siblings fought, fairly matched, until Hel’s deceit!
Through trickery and illusion, Hel made a single strike!
The Titan’s eye was gouged, and thrown into the night!
Enraged by betrayal, the Titan fell to his knees!
His tears falling freely, making the raging Boiling Sea!
Let this be a lesson for those who crave deception!
Do not be caught like Hel, do so with discretion!
Or if you seek the truth, like the Titan beneath us lies!
Do not fall for duplicity or you will gain a Bloody Eye!”
The Story sound more like a warning, doesn’t it?
