I THINK WE DO!!!!! here is MY JAMIE DRYSDALE/BRYCE HARPER CRINGE FLING PITCH. necessary background info for the non-hockeys:

jamie drysdale: canadian. often injured. scared of his own shadow. despite this, he is a defenseman. parents gave him a wine cabinet for christmas and he loved it. former bearer of the curse of playing professional sports in anaheim, california. one of those first round pandemic draft picks, so he's taking his sweet ass time to cook (i am not sure if this has also been the case for baseball, but every 2019-2021 draft pick in the nhl has had an uphill battle to play to the level they were projected at because the pandemic torqued their development both pre and post draft. jamie's definitely on his way, but imho he's still cooking.) most importantly: he's short but thick as fuck. boys meet him and they go CRAZYYYY

bryce harper: bryce harper.

now EYE think that jamie is the perfect candidate for bryce harper's cringe hockey fling, because he's a) SUPER young (a fresh 21 years old last april) and b) so fully canadian that he would not be starstruck by bryce harper. he would be full of anxiety because bryce is TALL and HOT (sorry i've been carrying that truth for a while) and PAYING ATTENTION TO HIM but he would not be like omg it's bryce harper. so i think bryce would love the level of anonymity this gives him. like yeah here's this nervous young bulldog who is going to give bryce the sloppiest, hottest blowie of his life BUT he isn't going to know who bryce is and if bryce introduces himself by saying "hi i'm bryce harper", jamie is going to apologize ten times for not knowing who bryce is and look like he's going to have a nervous breakdown until he can leave. ALSO because he is short but thick, he has the necessary center of gravity to throw bryce around once he stops apologizing for existing. bryce is going to love his 21yo horndog hockey frat boy energy combined with his severely under-treated anxiety disorder, and he is going to have the cringiest fling of his life. he is going to text trea pictures of him and jamie being soppy at an eagles game to show trea that he's SOOOOOO well-adjusted but accidentally include one of jamie on his knees. trea will block his number and finally know peace.

ALSO. for scene-setting purposes. potential future captain of the philadephia flyers joel farabee is a mainstay at phillies games in the summer and many people (two of my friends) are suggesting he might take jamie in and have jamie live in his basement (which is possibly where other rookies have but i am not a flyers scholar so i am not up on the lore.) anyway joelbee could very easily bring jamie along to a summer phillies game...haha and then what... (me imagining bryce freaking harper having to sneak into SOMEONE'S BASEMENT to hook up with his 21 year old boytoy.)

OMG. I am so happy for Cardsy! (I’m thankful I’m at the end of the set of motel rooms; I screeched a little loudly lol. Of course, the people next to me are watching college football and their team did something right at the same time, so they were yelling too haha). Let’s go Cuda! 😁

I really really like what we've seen of Cardsy so far and also DEEPLY love how many chances he's getting with Jmac - penalty kill? no problem. powerplay? also no problem. (I mean we have many problems with the pk and pp. innumerable problems with the pk and the pp. but Cardsy has adapted pretty well.) imho so far they seem to be using him a lot like they did Eklund last year by putting him deep in the line up but playing him on so many special teams? Which was an insane decision for Ekky who should have been top line all season, but I think it's a great one for Cardsy, who needs experience playing with grown ass adults. I would deeply love to see his toi because it seemed like they were playing him pretty hard the past two games but maybe that's because I'm still learning faces, numbers, and names and he's easier to pick out since he's tiny and cherubic. Obviously we'll see how he does when the Cuda have their midseason long dark night of the soul, but I've been impressed with this kid's drive and work ethic so far. Hoping he sticks the landing 🤞

UMMM idk how im gonna format this so im just gonna put it in bullet points ig

scout is a big ole hugger and very physically affectionate,, this contrasts with miss pauling being touch starved and really reserved. the way each of them love is something to get used to for both of them but its just works!!

i think miss pauling is very quick to try to ignore her feelings in order to focus on her work rather than a relationship with scout but it ends up coming up over and over again. like perhaps she'll try to convince herself that she can work with him and be normal and ends up fumbling over her words or another flub like that "hey scout i need you, i mean- for-for this" contract line. (i see her being shown to act stern to him in fanon even when she's supposed to be pining, but i think its forgetting the aspect of her character that she's a huge nerd >:33 i just really enjoy scoutpauling pining. scout becomes softer, shyer and more considerate, and miss pauling becomes that "girls when they're in love" meme. i just think they're such a good ship for a slow burn which is so upsetting cause i don't think there's a single scoutpauling-focused fic that's a slow burn. i'd say i'd to take up the torch but i struggle to even write one shots so 💀)

i also like to think that miss pauling notices his insecurities and compliments them. and he gets all flustered but he loves it so much. (yup i did rip this from a measured fic i read but i gotta beef up that wordcount biatch. i am insane abt this pairing i dont think you guys understand yet)

miss pauling is often overworked (as she is lol) and will struggle to take basic care of herself (feeding, sleeping, etc) and as they get closer scout will swing by her apartment often and help her clean up the garbage, water the plants , take her to bed (NON SEXUALLY!!!!11!!! we keep it PG here) and get her some good food

miss pauling will sometimes be so overworked she'll be sleeping sitting up or fall out of her chair and sleep crumpled on the floor. scout is often coming into her office/apartment just to spend some time with her and she'll tell him that she's fine and doesn't need much sleep to keep going. scout let's her go for this but soon he finds her asleep in even more concerning spots and finally says fuck it and cleans up her apartment and tucks her into bed

i feel like scout has put on a tough, "manly" persona all his life to prevent himself from getting bullied (or at least getting affected by it in front of others) but i think miss pauling being a girl able to call him on his bullshit is really good for him to be more down to earth and good for his self esteem in a way? like i think he allows himself to be more vulnerable with her and that feeling rewarded by being loved for what he is rather than just a persona is just really nice.

miss pauling is really capable but also i think shes avoidant to help if its really personal to her and not only her job. miss pauling was raised to be an assassin by the administrator and was never really allowed to just be a PERSON and i think that its kinda nice for her to be able to just have a normal relationship with someone. like, i think their relationship is pretty non-normal lols, but also i think scout can be really nice to her and nurturing to a more personal side of her she often times will have locked up because of her line of work.

if the administrator didnt adopt miss pauling (a big hc i have) i like to think that she had a very cold and unforgiving set of parents (like perhaps she can attach herself so well to the administrator because shes used to authority figures behaving in that way? or something?). i imagine after miss pauling getting well acquainted with scouts family, scout wants to meet her family. scouts family is a lot more warm blooded and caring than miss paulings family, and miss pauling says no at first because of this. scout still wants to go or at least know why miss pauling wont talk about her family, but reconciles that some things she isnt ready for. miss pauling still notices his feelings and decides to bring him over for one dinner. its just the worst for everyone involved. scout is wearing his sunday best which is a goofy haircut and a bowtie because he cant be fancy to save his life and no matter how polite he tried to be his bluntness would always shine through on accident. miss paulings mom would insult her and scoutd get really defensive. hes not allowed back. ;-;

another hc i like is that miss pauling and scout both speak spanish. scout learnt it because he mistook it for the language of love (which, i mean spanish is still a pretty romantic language so i fuck w it) but in miss pauling's case it was her first language. miss pauling is excited to know he speaks her language and he often needs her to slow down her speech for him to keep up which i think is a fun contrast to everyone struggling to keep up with him loll... also this happened valve told me/j

AHHHHHH oh my god. i have to think long and hard about this and it sounds like a cop-out but i truly don't think bill really has a favorite thing about rita. if you ask him what it is, he will actually spontaneously combust from thinking too hard.

but the short answer is her smile!!! he works so fucking hard to make her smile—cracking jokes, doing nice things for her, earning her praise by proving his competence—and he swears it lights up the entire room whenever he can get her to do it!!! 😭 and if he can get her to laugh? he won’t be able to think about anything else but that sound for DAYS

on the other hand, his least favorite thing about her is…well, probably her optimism. she's not very good at it. in fact, most of the time it just makes him feel worse whenever she tells him he’ll just have to try harder next time! like gee, thanks rita! he was already doing that but he’ll take it into consideration… just like he did the last time… and the time before that… and before that…

when it comes to rita though, she would never, even on pain of death, say anything sappy like her “favorite thing” about bill where someone else can hear her, but i think her favorite thing about him is—surprisingly, since it’s his least favorite thing about her—his optimism.

for her, it’s just been so long since she was able to enjoy things without feeling guilt or some kind of loss, but bill somehow never lost that. which certainly isn’t to say he didn’t acquire his fair share of trauma or grief or loss along the way, but he remains steadily resilient in the face of adversity even in the very last iteration—“we’ve had worse :)”—and that strikes a chord with her, i think. then, slowly, being around someone so stubbornly happy despite carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders starts to not only impress her, but it heals her. with his help, she learns to enjoy things again: the delight of a good meal after years of carrying a bad aftertaste in her mouth, the comfort of a spacious hotel room and a soft bed after sleeping on the ground for god knows how long, the satisfaction of a healthy jog just around the block after spending years running at a sprint with no breaks. the all-consuming joy of someone knowing her the way she never dreamed anyone would ever know her again after before. the relief of not having to think about 'before' anymore because now she has an 'after' to look forward to instead.

ahem. sorry. i got carried away for a second.

that being said, her least favorite thing about bill is easy to pin down and that is his complete and utter lack of dignity LOL... rita can say for absolute certain she has never met a man with as little pride as bill cage, and although he is rather funny and makes for surprisingly good company on a quiet day, he is often ridiculously embarrassing to be around and can be very difficult when he doesn’t want to do something because he’s being a chicken about it🙄

14. What little things remind them of each other? ohhhhhhh 🥺🥺🥺 i apologize because u will get a LOT of sappiness for this but-

on bill's side, he is reminded of rita in everything, but mainly in their experiences together. he sees her in a young woman's loosely braided hair as she passes him on the street. he sees her in his coffee cup when the waitress taking his order asks if he wants sugar or cream. he sees her in the sun at 6:45pm exactly, when he and rita sat together on the fence outside the farmhouse and watched it disappear over the horizon. in his lifetime, he's experienced everything with her, and he probably has as many things to remember her by as there are stars in the cosmos.

of course, he's reminded of her in other ways as well. things she taught him. he thinks of her when he looks to the sun to check the time rather than turning over his wrist, just like she taught him. he thinks of her when he does his stretches at the gym, just like she taught him. he thinks of her when he checks all his exits every time he enters a room and someone closes the door, just like she taught him. everything he knows he learned from her and for her.

it's harder for rita though, because she doesn't have anything to remember him by, so she remembers the little things instead: his preferences and whatnot. she pretends not to care when he tells her where he's from or what his favorite color is, but she thinks of him when his favorite baseball team is shown on television, or when she goes for a walk in the park and it starts to rain even though it's sunny out because sunshowers make him smile the brightest :')

no but bill has ALWAYS been a pda guy that much is so obvious!! i think he was always chasing something real with his old girlfriends, and even if it never felt like much with them, it was better than nothing... and then he fell head over ass into the mimic war and the closest thing to PDA he got was a kick in the gut or the barrel a gun trained on his temple, so surely no one can fault him for craving comfort, reassurance, intimacy—anything to take him away from the reality he was living in for even 5 seconds.

...and this did not answer the question at all which is to say bill is SO fucking annoying (affectionate) about pda 😭 rita please hold his hand please kiss him on the forehead please cuddle him he wants to hold you he wants you to hold him PLEASE!!! he will actually die if you don't and then you'll be sad (he hopes) :'(

Ik the reason Demian calls Sinclair "little Sinclair" is probably that he is in fact a little taller than him, but I have a hc that he started calling him that while being taller as a child, but then Sinclair actually grows taller as an adult. I felt like I forgot something!! That Long Live connection is devastating oh my god.

I don't know if I can articulate the "hiding in plain sight" dkkwkfk it's a loaded line. I usually think about "nobody physically saw me for a year" when I hear it. I know we joke about Taylor hiding in a suitcase but how many times she actually went out with a baseball cup and sunglasses? Quite literally hiding in plain sight. Maybe she even met a waitress who told her she looks like an american singer.

And also like, the amount of times Taylor was struggling but put on a happy face and no one realized she was suffering. The 1989 era, in 2021 she said she spent the og Red era crying between interviews, and now in hindsight we know she was also struggling during the end of Fearless era / beginning of Speak Now era. Through her music she always showed us her suffering, like what you said about Long Live, "may the memories break our fall", The Lucky One, I Know Places, New Romantics, but despite her laying all these clues in plain sight and showing us her wounds, we still see her as a guiding light. We know she's walking to a house, not a home, but we also don't because we don't pay attention and she's so good at hiding things while telling the whole truth.

I will be honest, I have never liked or disliked Tang Shen, Hamato Yoshi or Oroku Nagi, nor cared much for their conflict in any particular way, besides the fact it is the reason for the majority of TMNT drama with Foot Clan. Though their backstory is not without nuances, with Hamato Yoshi’s rage and being part of an actual clan of fully trained assassins, it is pretty much a general, cliche story of great love threatened by a jealous man rejected by a woman, the kind of story that simply is not my cup of tea.

(Original Oroku Saki though is a totally different matter, as the Shredder’s revenge quest to avenge his murdered brother humanizes his character and adds nice parallels to how Splinter raised his sons, especially in regard to Leonardo.)

So, this is may be less headcanon and more what I would add to the characters in general: Oroku Nagi and Hamato Yoshi weren’t bitter rivals who hated each other's guts, but well working partners in crime. Tang Shen was an undercover kunoichi from rival ninja clan (or even police agent) that infiltrated Foot to steal their secret and/or gain some inner control via seducing high ranking member(s) which is kinda how Oroku Nagi became the target (as I think Oroku family is one of the most influencing part of their clan) while Hamato Yoshi was picked for his great skills. But she truly fell in love with Yoshi while her cover was blown up. So instead of the Nagi going to Shen to demand she love him, he actually discovered she is the enemy and tried to kill her but Yoshi chose his love over the clan and so they needed to flee. While Oroku Saki was trained to find the traitor and avenge Nagi as was done in original comics.

You know, anything more focused on the Foot clan’s inner politics and conflicts and actually giving Tang Shen some agency and motives than just an old boring story of two men fighting over a woman.
