here’s the “14 levels of love in the arabic language” for all you hopeless romantics 💕

1. Al-Hawa الهواه (Attraction)

Love begins with attraction and lust, which is described in Arabic as "al-hawa". This is when emotions are running high, but they're still indefinite... kinda like when you're swooning over a crush. 

2. Al-Sabwa السبوة (Amusement)

This phase depicts the sweet spot before things get real, when two people are enjoying each other's company without putting a label on the relationship. The "flirtationship" hasn't evolved into a legit relationship yet, but it might.

3. Al-Shaghaf الشغاف (Passion)

This is when feelings of actual love begin to surface and people are basically love-struck.

The Arabic word "al-shaghaf" refers to الشغافة (al-shaghafa), which is the outer layer of the heart.

4. Al-Wajd الوجد (Preoccupation)

"Al-wajd" is when you just can't stop thinking of your loved one. You are preoccupied with him/her and want to spend every waking hour with him/her.

5. Al-Kalaf الخلاف (Infatuation)

"Al-kalaf" refers to a state of powerful longing accompanied by hardships and suffering. This is when people say "I love you so much it hurts" and actually mean it. 

6. Al-'Oshok العشوك (Adulation)

"Al-oshok" is used to describe the excessive love and profound admiration lovers experience when they become intimately familiar with one-another.

7. Al-Najwa النجوة (Heartburn)

Yes... Arab romance is all about pain. "Al-najwa" is when love engulfs one's heart entirely and triggers feelings of sadness.  

"Najwa" is derived from the Arabic word النجاة (salvation), as lovers need to be saved from this state of severe heartache.  

8. Al-Shawq الشوك (Longing)

This is when you feel a deep longing for your lover and a strong attachment to him/her.

9. Al-Wasab الوسب (Excruciating pain)

"Al-wasab" translates to pain and illness. In this stage, love is just not healthy. There is so much pain and suffering, it's the stuff for epic love poems.

10. Al-Istikana الإستخانة (Submissiveness)

I repeat: NOT HEALTHY!

This is the state of humiliating and blind submission we often see in detrimental relationships. 

11. Al-Wodd الوود (Friendliness)

Couples who have reached this degree of love are #relationshipgoals. They are not only lovers, but also the best of friends. 

"Al-wodd" translates to amiability and friendliness. It is the purest, most selfless and most delicate kind of love. 

12. Al-Kholla الخولة (Unification)

"Al-kholla" is defined as love and friendship that are ingrained deep in the heart.

In this stage, you believe that your lover is "the one" and that you will never find a more perfect match (#soulmates).

13. Al-Gharam الغرام (Fervour)

"Al-gharam" is defined as attachment to something and not being able to let go of it. This is when lovers feel like it is impossible to live apart and always find their ways back to each other regardless of the circumstances.

"Al-hoyam" refers to madness and insanity caused by excessive love. So basically, this is when lovers lose all sense of reason and go absolutely nuts.

the Antarctica Incident had a much greater toll on him than he realizes. he's just ✨ Fine™ ✨ y'know? nbd <3 (he's not fine somebody please hug him-)

has a Thing about things breaking/not working. it causes him to immediately panic and have a million thoughts rush through his head about how he'll survive the weather, how much food he has, etc., even if it's something small.

he also doesn't like being alone for too long. you'd think he'd be "used to it", but nope.

but on the bright side: contrary to popular belief, he wasn't completely alone while trapped. he befriended a lot of penguins. mostly against his will, but still.

1000000000% views Barnacles as his son but he'll never admit it.

so gosh darn fluffy. basically canon but yeah. aside from the adorableness it's kinda a burden because he'd probably overheat really fast if he left his station.

fluent in Russian, and used to have a habit of muttering Impolite Words™ under his breath—until reuniting with a grown-up Barnacles who picked up some Russian in his worldly travels. now he only does it in private.

he watched the great penguin race. he saw and/or heard Barnacles there, but wasn't sure if it was him. they left before he worked up the courage had a chance to talk to them.

Calico Jack:

mmmmmmmmmm. undiagnosed autistic. masks really well but only among other pirates, who have completely different social rules and whatnot. he's struggling now because he doesn't know how to mask anymore. he doesn't need to, because literally all the Octonauts are neurodivergent, but pshh

he's going through a redemption arc in his head. no one else knows about it because everyone likes him already and thinks he's great, but he can't see that.

his leg will start to hurt really bad if he runs on it too much—he tries to avoid it if he can, but sometimes he's stubborn, or just forgets (until it's too late).

his first name is literally "Ranger": he had it legally changed, so that he and Tweak (who decided to go by "Tweak" when she got into engineering) could both be named after their interests.

unintentionally inspired Tweak's engineering special interest. that motorboat he has in The Alligator-Shark? it used to break down constantly, until he taught her how to fix it. she fixed it ONCE and it never broke down again. it gave her such a rush of euphoria that she went around fixing everything, and eventually building new things. and she just,, never stopped.

Wait is this directly inspired by How to train Your Dragon?

Some aspects are- the beastiary, dragon armor, and some of the dragon designs. I took inspiration from dragon depictions in a lot of different media.

Games like Day of Dragons and Minecraft help me come up with characters and landscape ideas!

Welp, it's hit that time.

As I warned a (probably annoying) amount of times already, I will have to go for a while, and return some time in June!! So yeah Imma be gone for like... basically 3 months... But it'll be like early-June don't worry!! :3
