What do you think Frisk's life was like before arriving in the underground? What do you think their life was like a few years after all that? What kind of person d'ya think they'd be?

this is a fairly hard question because for a long time frisk was effectively an enigma to me. i think frisk is one of the biggest writing weak points in the game and that their character suffers because toby only did the big reveal that theyre a separate person from you too late to do really anything with it, which is why hes focusing so hard on kris in deltarune.

however, i have been thinking more about them lately and trying to figure them out from the few canon details we have. here are some of the lines in the game that i think can give us a peak into frisks upbringing and personality:

these lines to me seem to imply frisk most likely grew up/lives in a neglectful environment where they dont feel loved or appreciated, whether in a home with parents or an orphanage or somewhere else. their caretakers are clearly absent enough that frisk managed to make it to mount ebott, for whatever reason it is they went. they do seem to at leastl partly want to go back home though, as they ask toriel when they can and you have the option to say they have somewhere else to go.

they seem very independent and used to doing things for themself. they prefer finding fun in things in their environment to entertain themself with (like playing in leaves or staring at mouse holes) and potentially arent actually used to having toys to play with. they dont like the idea of being trapped in the ruins with toriel and want to leave despite the promise of a loving home.

...however, they say this about asgore later. they seem to vastly prefer things like toriels homemade pie to making their own instant noodles. maybe theyd be willing to stay with someone on their own terms? you are given the option to stay with toriel or leave on your own at the end of the game. maybe frisk could be fine with either.

i also choose to believe the 'less grammatically correct' options in the role-play sequence are frisk. the only thing this really proves in that theyre kind of silly. but what undertale character isnt? things like them wiggling or copiously flirting or generally going along with shenanigans tell us they like having a good time like everyone else.

also, i dont have anything specific to say about the lines you get from running from a fight but i want to include them because theyre fun and some of the only 'probably frisk dialogue' we get that isnt just options.

as for post-mercy, i think the person everyone is talking to in the alarm clock dialogue is frisk. theyre just being told about events they werent there for, like the house party with alcohol they werent invited to for obvious reasons. i think both them having stayed with toriel or gone somewhere else are possible and there isnt strong evidence for either. theres even less evidence about whether they became the ambassador or not. maybe they werent there for some of the hangouts because they were busy with politics? i dont think toriel would let that happen but if any kid in the world could be a successful diplomat its absolutely frisk.

I feel like Dazai's relationship with Akutagawa is misunderstood. Dazai cares about Akutagawa, he just doesn't know how how to be kind like Odasaku. In the dark age light novel (THEY DIDNT SHOWNIT IN THE ANIME AND IT MADE ME WANNA CRY) but Dazai constantly brags about him to Oda AND DOES SHOW HOW HES PROUD OF HIM AFTER A JOB.

"I executed him." Akutagawa (page 77)

"You defeated an unyielding, formidable enemy and protected your allies, Akutagawa. Good work." Dazai (page 77)

I feel it important to note that Dazai's tone was sarcastic during most of this, while he was annoyed with akutagawa because he had messed up Dazai's elaborate plan to get information, he was genuinely impressed with Akutagawa. He only hit Akutagawa after he had started to talk back claiming that torture methods were more effective than interrogation.

(talking to Oda) "Akutagawa-he's like a sword without a sheath." Dazai grinned from ear to ear. "He'll surely become Mafia's strongest skill user in the not-so-distant-future, but for now he needs someone who can teach him how to put that sword away." (page 95)

BUT THIS IS THE AHXHHAHXBA PART WHEN ODA THINKS JUST AFTER DAZAI SAYS THIS "I was surprised. I've never heard Dazai openly speak so highly of one of his men like that before"

Alright, so I haven't read the book, but those two moments you mentioned *were* in the anime, though maybe the tonality was changed and off, which is so sad! Correct interpretation is important!!

I do tend to go off in my tumblr according to my feelings, and I am a very petty person, hence my personal hatred of Dazai, but here is my opinion:

Dazai is not a person who doesn't have feelings and emotions and stuff: it is very plausible that he could have cared about Akutagawa, or a version of caring, during his PM days. However, that does not excuse the way he actually treated him. And evidently Dazai had been shown kindness before - by Odasaku- and he saw first-hand how important it was to his friend to be kind, Dazai just was not in a place to care about such things.

And even so, I could have forgiven his PM days- if he wasn't so incredibly indifferent to Akutagawa during the present. The phone call on Moby Dick was so incredibly cruel and unnecessary, considering all Dazai had to say was "Don't fight Atsushi, the mafia and ADA are working to stop Fitzgerald" and Akutagawa would have complied. It is only an example, but my issue stems from the fact that Dazai manipulates Akutagawa to his own plans instead of letting him move on. His interaction with Akutagawa in season 5 before he asks a favor is also an indicator of that.

The case is that Dazai has learned to put in the effort to care for those he loves - Atsushi, Chuuya, the ADA.

To me, the list simply does not include Akutagawa.

Help Me Out Would You? | part 1

[ a non canon story about neuvillette and Wriothesely ]

"How did i not see this coming." Neuvillette questions, pacing around the dukes office. Wriothesely chuckles, with his feet resting on his desk. "You're only one man, you cant control everything." He simply replies. Which was true, very true. No matter how hard neuvillette tried, he couldnt control all coners of the law in fontaine.

About 10 hours ago neuvillette had failed to sentence a criminal as guilty, despite having the correct evidence. The verdict was infact incorrect. Obviously he was outraged by the outcome. "Theres so much more I couldve achieved. It will have to wait until the next trial." Neuvillette sighs out of frustration and takes a seat on the red leathered sofa, right side of the office. He exhales softly, leaning in to the back of the sofa, Wriotheselys eyes on him the whole time.

He was always the person neuvillette would go to when something like this happened. He felt like it was a comfortable place to have a dig, without anyone else seeing, except Wriothesely of course. "Do you know what you need?" Wriothesely sits up from his desk, all perked up. Which was different from a minute ago when neuvillette was ranting about his day.

His head turns to the side, leaning an elbow on the arm of the settee. Obviously he was curious. "A massage." Wriothesely answers, getting up and walking towards the settee. Neuvillette shakes his head immediately. The first to protest about the recommendation. "I simply could not ask you to do such a favour. There is no need." He wafted his hand. Without wanrning, Wriothesely stands behind the settee and places both hands on neuvillettes shoulders.

"Ahh dont sweat it. Its a good job you arent asking." Wriothesely casually states. His hands start gently kneeding neuvillettes shoulders. Adding a little more pressure every so often due to the layers of clothing. Neuvillette didnt like the idea of doing things for himself. It was always about other people and he was comfortable with that. So this was a different setting. His head tilts back a little as the relaxation starts to kick in.

Maybe Wriothesely was a little too good at this. Neuvillette was holding back any sounds of comfort as possible, he managed to obtain them for some time until Wriothesely started massaging his shoulder blades. A soft gasp leaves his lips as the muscles in his back tenses up. "There we go..." Wriothesely says in a calm tone. "I never get to see you like this, Consider this a reward for the both of us" He adds, continuing the circular patterns he was doing before.

Expecting an answer, Wriothesely stops for a moment and leans in. A word hadn't come out of neuvillettes mouth.

"You good?" He asks curiously. But neuvillette was leant back with a hand over his mouth and his eyes shut. A sparke lights up in Wriotheselys eyes. "Ohh.." said in a low chuckle. He continues the massage, this time intentionally going for the sides of neuvillettes body, which causes a louder gasp to come out.

"Ah. Stop.." Neuvillette jolts, and sits up from the settee. His face had gone a bright red, as he immediately adjusts his blue coloured blazer. Wriothesely knew exactly what was going on. He knew vulnerability wasnt neuvillettes strong suit but this was a whole different type of emotion he had never encountered with him before.

"Whats with you? You seemed to be dazed off a moment ago?" He questions, taking a step back from the settee. Neuvillette stays silent for a moment, glancing towards the side. "I do not expect you to go to such lengths for me. I have to get going, i am needed elsewhere for tomorrows preparations."

Wriothesely doesn't stop him, instead he watches him walk out of the office without another word. How could he be so stubborn towards himself. "I was so close to breaking through. Pain in my ass." He mumbles. He takes a seat behind his desk, resting an elbow on the arm and his chin in his hand. All Wriothesely could think about was the elegant noises that came from neuvillettes mouth.

"Fuck...if he'd just let himself take a break."

The next morning , neuvillette prepares for the several meetings he had planned for the day. Leant over the bathroom sink, he took a minute to examine himself in the mirror. There stood the reflection of the shirtless man. Softly, he runs his finger tips underneath his eyes to try diminish the light pink circles. Thinking about yesterday, he runs his hands over his shoulders, and retraces every movement that was made by Wriothesely.

It wasnt the same. The massage did help a lot. His body felt more tender than usual. A part of neuvillette felt guilty for leaving so early. He takes a short sigh and leaves his bathroom. "Time to get ready i suppose."

Suddenly a ring of the doorbell filled the silence. Neuvillette peeped outside of the view hole, of course it was Wriothesely. He opens the door and gives a soft smile. Wriothesely smirks as his eyes go from the top of neuvillettes chest to the bottom of his stomach. "Bad timing?" He sarcastically asks, inviting himself into the house.

Neuvillette stood to the side, closing the door behind them. "You could say so." He shrugs, walking into his closet, which was a whole room. It was way too fancy, anyone could tell that whoever lived here was mega rich. It was also part of the reason why Wriothesely visited so much. The vibe wasnt exactly awkward but it wasnt exactly normal.

They were both still thinking about last night. Waiting for the other person to bring it up first. "I have a que of meetings for the day. whatever your requests are, make them quick" Neuvillette insisted as he rummaged around the closet for the same outfit he wore everyday. "Well what time do you have to be there.?" Wriothesely asks, admiring the shirtless man. The way his ash white hair dangled to the midpoint of his back. Even when neuvillette moved his body the slightest, it was still so elegant and beautiful.

Neuvillette sighs out of irritation, his patience was running thinner by the second. It was clear that the work had finally caught up to him. His behaviour had been different for the past couple of months and Wriothesely wanted to do something about it. "Hey.." he grabbed neuvillettes arm and turned him around. His eyes widened as they analysed every aspect of Wriothesely face. "Theres no need for worrying, im alright." Neuvillette falsely informs. But Wriothesely didnt buy a word of what he was saying.

He dragged neuvillette to the bedroom and forcefully pushed him down onto the bed. "Sit." He insisted. But neuvillette resisted. With just his black trousers on, white socks and no shirt, he lightly pushed Wriothesely out of the way. "W-what are you doing. Please stop making a fuss." Neuvillette asked, but was quickly silenced by Wriothesely pushing him back on the bed. His eyes were dark, dominant. Like he couldnt hold himself back.

"I said sit." Neuvillette struggles as Wriothesely climbs on top to pin him to the bed. "Wriothesely...I cannot-"

"Ill cover your meeting, ill reschedule them. There's no way you're getting out of this house today." Wriothesely commands. He slowly starts to massage the sides of neuvillettes body like he did yesterday.

Fingers trailing down every inch of his body, he begins to lightly press his lips againts neuvillettes chest. Soft and shallow breaths start to leave his mouth as hes forced to take in the pleasure. "You're taking a day off, and im going to help you." Wriotheselys words were demanding but soft. The further things went the more Neuvillette started to lean into every touch and sensation. With one arm pinning neuvillettes body to the bed, the other starts tracing the dents and curves of neuvillettes lower stomach.

"P-please. Stop.." he whimpers, he was reluctant on not allowing himself to feel pleasure, however that wasnt going to stop Wriothesely. "Help me out will you, and shut up." Wriothesely slowly drags his thumb across neuvillettes bottom lip. Eyes glued onto eachother. It was like looking into the ocean. Deep blue eyes, but bright enough to see his own reflection.

Neuvillette was completely overtaken with lust. As much as he didnt want to feel this way he couldnt help it. He could feel himself start to grow more desperate. Wriothesely moved lower down his body, planting small, wet kisses along the way. He invited himself to undo neuvillettes zipper.

Taking in the sight of every motion, neuvillettes face starts to grow more flushed. "Oh god...." he whispers to himself.

As Wriothesely begins to see the act through, his thumbs caressed the dents of neuvillettes v line. Finally placing his fingers around the thing thats been twitching ever since Wriotheselys hands touched his skin.

With every motion, a small and supressed whimper left neuvillettes lips, his eyes closing as he starts softly thrusting into Wriotheselys hand.

The sight, the sounds wanted him to grow more violent.

The faster he went the more the wet sounds could be heard. "S-slow down....or." Neuvillette begins to whisper through harsh breaths. "About to what..hm?" Wriothesely mocks. Instead of listening to neuvillettes pleaded words. He begins sucking faster, digging his nails into the sides of neuvillettes thights.

That was it. There was no holding back. A sensation he hadnt felt in so long. Neuvillette gribs Wriotheselys hair and starts pushing his head deeper. His moans becoming louder with each thrust. His hips started moving in rhythm with Wriotheselys tongue. The sounds of pleasure was like music to his ears, egging him on to suck harder, running circles on his tip with his tongue. That was enough to send neuvillette over the edge.

Completely shaken up by peak of his orgasm. They both take a minute to catch their breaths.

Wriothesely glances up to neuvillette. Grinning as he shuffles up his body. "In my mouth...really?" He chukles, admiring the worn out facial expression on neuvillettes face. Neuvillette sits up and rubs his eyes. "I never really got the choice." He replies, giving a small smile. They both clean up, and neuvillette gets ready for the rest of the day.

Taking a stroll through the city of fontaine, Wriothesely drops neuvillette off at his office. They both stand outside the entrance, looking at eachother. "I would like to thank you for this morning, as much as it inconvenienced my schedule..." Neuvillette begins to say. Wriothesely gives him a humorous chuckle, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Thats what friends are here for." He jokes.

Just as neuvillette was about to walk in he turns around last second. "What about you though? Shouldn't I-"

"Dont you think i have many other people to do that for me on a regular basis." Wriothesely jokes. He nods his head politely and making his way into the building, leaving Wriothesely to go back to the fortress of meropide.

They both couldnt help thinking, was this the start of something new?

been having some thoughts lately about like...what types of statements should have what amounts of credence. epistemology. rationality. i keep trying to tie them together, but i cant, so here are some ideas

resolvable truth: sometimes, when someone makes a claim, it is easy to check. like it's a statistical claim or whatever, and you can look up the statistics. sometimes it isnt, theres no good way to check it. the data could exist but hasnt been gathered, or more likely isnt amenable to data. these latter statements are like...a loose end. you havent resolved whether you believe them. you cant find evidence either way.

nuh-uh: many statements people make about life, you can just say "nuh uh" to. they have no mechanism by which to "prove" their statement. they just sort of think it, based on their experience. this is true in general. lots of things we know, we dont know in a way that allows us to present the evidence for our belief. these things can be true, but theyre a much weaker type of true than true things we can communicate evidence for

expert consensus: i really like expert consensus. if a field of experts has a consensus on some thing, and i think theyre not full of shit, this is valuable to me, because i learn stuff from them without questioning the evidence-chain for every step of the evidence. when a field doesnt have expert consensus, i get very paranoid trying to "learn" anything about the field, cuz i feel like maybe im just learning bullshit. "life in general" has essentially the minimal amount of expert consensus, not least because we're all experts

reflective equilibrium: learned this notion from thing of things. without evoking objective correctness, theres a notion that some ideas are (for you) in reflective equilibrium, and some are not. basically, some issues, if you thought about your opinion enough, and gathered information, your opinion would change, and some it wouldnt. if it wouldnt, youre in reflective equilibrium. i think of expert consensus as a sort of simulation of reflective equilibrium. if theres a consensus, then probably that position is in equilibrium. if not, it probably isnt

i havent provided sufficient connective tissue here but i think its expressing what i mean. like, in the absence of good reliable data to go on, when were operating on opinion, experts are valuable because theyre kind of what it would look like if you spent the time internalizing all the messy underlying data. but if theres no consensus, then you havent escaped the problem.

Was thinking about the subject of interpretation recently. You've made clearer to me the truth that storytelling is always communicating something and that there's always objective facts to be observed in a story's quality. But what about the subjective elements or the elements that can be argued to be subjective?

To be more specific, you've talked about turning interpretation into rewriting before, largely in regards to the HP Marauders, which is when interpretation goes too far. So I'd first ask what you think is the correct way to handle interpretation in reading stories?

My second question, tying into that, is for cases like those of the HP fandom (and all fandoms everywhere, really) but where the audience claims not to be guilty of rewriting the characters or plot. When things get blurrier and people argue that they can, for example, interpret a character as gay even when that character has explicitly stated they aren't by arguing that - in their interpretation - the character was lying because they're in denial. Other similar cases include of course the thousands of characters whose sexualities and the inner thoughts of their relationships are headcanoned by fans however they see fit with all manner of excuses used to fit it into any canon context that might contradict their vision.

Those are the obvious cases to my mind, but there's also whether a character's motives are selfish or heroic, whether a villain cares about people deep down or is unrelentingly evil, whether the whole story isn't secretly Johnny Jim's fever dream that represents his trauma, etc. In so many cases, fans can make arguments that since their interpretation isn't technically contradicted by the narrative then it can be correct even if it's a pure addition to the story.

Long build up, but my second question would then be do you think that argument is a valid form of interpretation or has it crossed over into rewriting?

This is a tricky question. Because the truth is that humans can twist anything until it says whatever they want it to say. Obviously, if you simply say, "Well I know Lupin married and loved a woman and actively called Sirius a 'friend,'" but he was lying." And when you ask them for proof that he was lying, they ultimately don't have any. They can say "look at how close Sirius and Lupin seemed," or "think about how uncomfortable he was to be with Tonks," but you can easily explain those evidences—with the explanations given in the book by the narrator. "Yeah, they were close because they were friends. He was uncomfortable to marry her because he's a werewolf and she's younger, he literally said so."

Theres "evidence" on both sides, for each argument. But only one side takes all available evidence, as a whole, and still has a supportable conclusion. The other side, the side that claims Lupin and Sirius were romantically interested in one another, picks and chooses whatever lines up with their theory (like you said) and discards the rest—or has to add to the original material to make their interpretation make sense.

And what is "adding to the original material?" It's simply assuming god-like knowledge of a character you didn't create. Because Rowling didn't give you evidence for Lupin's straight love for Tonks and platonic friendship with Sirius being a lie. She could've. She's written liars and their behaviors before. She's written Lupin hiding the truth, too, so we know what THAT looks like.

Ultimately, I'd say:

The correct way to handle the interpretation of stories is to look at the story as a whole, first. Remember that every word, every line, everything said and left out, was a decision made by the storyteller. They're each building blocks for a whole. So you have to look at the whole, first. My method is to look at the good that befalls a character, and the bad that befalls a character, and trace the cause. Usually, the a good or bad thing happening to a character can be traced all the way back to a decision they, or some other character, made. Once you find that decision, you have to try and figure out why the character made that decision: what was their motivation? What belief drove them to make that decision? You act the way you act because you think the way you think. You can figure motivations out in specific characters by analyzing what events shaped their worldview, or paying attention to what words they choose when they speak in moments of conflict or tension. Dodger (in Oliver and Company) says "you're one of the gang. the gang means family." when he's angry with Oliver for wanting to leave. That's the first time we see Dodger hurt and angry with a friend. And that's the explanation we're given. And we can couple that with the times he's risked his skin: jumping in front of angry Dobermans, or refusing to eat until he gets to the others. So we know, after looking at all the evidence, that the most important thing to Dodger isn't food or safety or even "looking cool:" it's that core group of characters he considers "family." Then you've cracked him, as a character.

If a fan is adding something to a story that lines up with the character's purpose in the original material—or at least lines up with their character traits at some point in the original material—then it's an addition to the story. Cinderella 2015 zooms in on the fact that Cinderella loved and respected her parents: in the original cartoon, you're shown one scene of her crying at her father's bedside, and another of her adoring her mother's dress in the most stressful of circumstances. That's not rewriting. The foundation was there in the original material. They just reverse-engineered that parental relationship, looked at how something seemed to be keeping Cartoon Cinderella in high spirits regardless of circumstances (which is not a trait she could've learned anywhere OTHER than those briefly-mentioned parents, based on all the evidence) and built upon it. But, if they'd taken the death of the parents and said, "Ella desperately wanted to please her stepmother, because she barely remembered her real mother," it would have been a rewrite. Why? Because if you look at ALL of the evidence, cartoon Cinderella doesn't tell Bruno to "love Lucifer like I love my stepmother, we're all we've got." That's what she would've said if she felt that way about her birth mother versus her stepmother. But instead, she tells him to "look for his good points, even if it's hard." And she clearly shows excitement and adoration for her mother's old dress. And the opening scene shows us how much she loved her parents. So when you take ALL the evidence, you CAN'T come by the wrong conclusion, and make a rewrite, honestly.

multiple ppl close to kinah were able to verify that they were in the hospital recovering when the attempt happened. all of those ppl could not collab and lie so one person could get “extra attention” in ur words. Im frustrated with terra staff aswell but that doesn’t mean its ok now to call someones suicide attempt fake so ur feelings seem more valid. I find that extremely sickening. U have zero evidence or good reason for doubt or else u would have vented about it already. all u have is ur feefees. u do need therapy. And mod pls stop validating baseless speculation on smth so serious. what happened 2 people needing proof for claims like this

first off i dont think that people should just believe whatever they read on the internet, because you dont know who these people are irl. again, thats not to say that you shouldnt give support where you can or that you should make public callouts saying that it was all fake when you dont know for sure, BUT at the same time theres a level of speculation regardless because its the fucking internet. people are wild, people are strangers, and there is a non zero chance that people could have lied. just because people have a level of speculation on something they read online, that doesnt mean they need therapy and it doesnt mean theyre a bad person, it means they have a brain. if YOU want to believe it without a shadow of a doubt then thats fine, and if other people have some doubt thats also fine, just dont go out of your way to fucking bother people because thats just unnecessary.

second off, i need proof for accusations like “so and so is posting feral” or “so and so is an abuser,” saying things like “the way that kinah bounced back into cs makes me speculate” isnt an accusation.

the views of the anons i post here arent reflective of my own views, and if something is a problem i give my own input on it in my response. when i created this blog i didnt want to delete asks because i feel like that controls a narrative and makes me an unreliable narrator when it comes to these discussions. if people want to talk about things like this, i didnt want to force silence because thats not how you hold a discussion.

as an additional note: anons have been becoming increasingly aggressive in my inbox, whether its towards one another or towards myself. i implore all of you to stop being so aggressive, stop making assumptions, and stop playing this holier than thou card. so much of the art and cs community is made up of people who will virtue signal and place themselves on a moral pedestal and my inbox is the last place for that. if you want to rant and complain, go ahead, but stop acting like youre better than each other because you have the Correct Opinion on everything and believe everything you read on the internet.

my final thoughts on this are as follows: there is a non zero chance that everyone is lying. is it a small chance? sure. does this mean we should spread the narrative that it was all fake? no. are you a horrible person who should die in a fire because you dont 100 percent believe that the attempts were real? no, but also dont go out of your way to be an asshole because of that belief. i think we should all publicly operate under the assumption that the attempts were real. if you want to privately speculate, go fucking wild. could kinah going back into cs and making stuff for terras possibly be bad for their mental health? maybe. but also, its none of our business. and thats what im ending this topic with, a lot of this shit really is just none of our business and i think you all give way too much of a fuck about someone who you will never know irl.

i dont dislike kinah, in fact i actually really liked them when they were on staff for terras. but at some point we all gotta throw our arms up and say why is this taking up so much of my brain power when this person is just someone i follow on fucking toyhouse.

tip for people who have trouble with literary analysis essays: you do not have to believe or agree with your claim

the only requirement is that 1) it is a subjective claim and 2) you can find evidence to support it. being passionate about or interested in your claim does help to get you actually interested in writing the essay, but you dont have to be. i always get too up in my own head when it comes to these things and i feel like i have to reinvent the wheel but if youre not super passionate about the text or you just cant think of a good claim, you can pick something obvious and if you can find text to support it, or find text that will support it if interpreted in a certain way, youve got an essay. it becomes especially easy when you realize that theres no correct interpretations. you can think a certain interpretation of the text is fucking stupid but if it supports your claim youre not wrong for using that. you could even say you think that interpretation is dumb and talk about what you think a better interpretation of that part it, and talk about what claim that interpretation supports (though be careful of your rubric. im writing from a college perspective and i know most of my profs would be chill as hell if i took a random aside like that in an essay, but i know some teachers and profs could be more strict. if your teacher is one of the chill ones that just wants yall to think about the text and develop your thinking skills, writing about something like that could be huge bonus points and your teacher might think its really cool that youre challenging the text and its interpretations like that)

dont be too hard on yourself and dont feel bad for going for the low hanging fruit sometimes, you dont always need to reinvent the wheel and come up with your own totally original claim or believe 100% in it. remember, essays are simultaneously exercises and the product of the exercise

Well, first of all, I defer to my fanfic The Distance Which Fools the Skimming Eye: my opinion on this is evident and the rest of this post is probably not even necessary to write, lol. (I think you mentioned you may have read it, but for those who haven't/have no interest etc. I'll go into detail on redemption arc features instead).

Second of all, I know you're just using it as a reference but this is a really well established point of interest with redemption arcs in general, not just Luke and Vader, and my favourite stuff ever.

The reason I particularly hold no interest for retreading the Original Trilogy intentionally is because Vader and Luke is a father and son dynamic. That does not fit a romantic dynamic which Cinder and Jaune would (theoretically) have, and is particularly damning given that Vader's death-by-redemption, in its misunderstood glory, characterised modern narrative reception of redemption arcs which should conceivably end in death because they're too hard to write I guess. (We would not like that for Cinder).

Rey/Kylo Ren explored it from a romantic angle already in universe.

So, if I would be taking any cues from SW, it would be from Reylo.

Reylo is actually very successful at this; the relationship between Rey and Kylo Ren is two-way, and the more interesting thing to me is how they're personally fulfilling to each other and would have a future they equally create together (when Rey is offering a future to Kylo, it's also her own). This is not a feature of the father-son dynamic really, not in the same way.

My point sort of here is that I'd like to see more interesting things from Jaune/Cinder which explore redemption arcs from more interesting angles than the established Vader or Zuko generally speaking. (Every girl interested in redemption arcs gets a little tired of hearing about Vader and Zuko).

But yeah, I do love a yummy yummy baddie who thinks they're too far gone and is scared to take the opportunities offered to them because they've been hurt, this is basically why I run my blog, this is one of those questions where I'm kind of laughing because it's essentially the reason I exist at all.

So yes, I would like to see Jaune fervently believe in Cinder when she doesn't and it seems impossible and her life is a tragic cycle. That's all I want. It's the absolute last thing he should ever do (in popular belief) and is a transgressive act but is also the best and most correct thing spiritually and morally. As I've mentioned before this really fits the Joan of Arc heretic angle as well.

In terms of structural questions the interesting thing to me is asking why the villain thinks they're too far gone and what's their standard of too far gone and how is it that they have that conception of morality and their own moral acts. In a way they can accidentally end up the mouthpiece of the very people who think they shouldn't be redeemed, and that's interesting. Because what you're doing is that by saying someone is too far gone, that means they can't turn around, and there are people who would turn around if they could but they believe otherwise. That's basically... the fundamentally interesting question of a redemption arc. Why can't you turn around?

It's that intersection of idealism and perceived failure... which is really embodied in the Byronic hero(ine), honestly. You can clearly see how Cinder's the Shadow of Ruby here, her archetype is the dark beautiful Romantic mirror.

episode 1, part 7

i am not entering the Danger Zone where i want to see fanart of natsuhi but i cannot look her up bc i need my mind to be absolutely unblemished. if i saw a spoiler now, that would ruin everything. i actually care about this enough to actively avoid and fear spoilers. thats how serious it is getting. usually i really dont care.

so. back to the story.

eva suggests the servants did this together and its obvious she also fears what they could do, should they find out she knows. this makes sense superficially. perhaps it was even done under the directions of kinzo or natsuhi. man eva really fucking hates her. except why would the servants do this and why would shannon be a victim, too? and why would they draw that weird summoning circle on the sheds door? perhaps the closest theory that makes sense is that kinzo was behind it all and possibly got help from genji but even so... getting rid of his children and doing weird black magic shit might make sense but again, why shannon?

if this was an ace attorney game, we would now collect evidence. but it isnt and we cant because its dangerous. that would be too easy and umineko really loves to take its time before it presents you with conclusions.

concerningly, maria has entered her joker arc now. i cannot say whether this is her or beatrice using her as a vessel, much like i think she did during the reading of the letter. i just highly suspect shes doing that. ehhhh, not sure this needed three different cg's that get creepier each time. you're overdoing it man. its creepier if theres just a Little off about maria's face. this is my personal subjective criticism.

in general, i personally dislike the creepy child portrayal they started doing with maria. mostly bc i think its corny and instead of making things More Scary and creating tension, its just ruining the built up atmosphere. for me.

later on there is discussion whether her behaviour can be written off as Purely roleplay but i am not quite buying this. there has got to be more to it. then again if there is One thing that can change a childs speech pattern like this and influence their entire body language and behaviour.... it gotta be a witch hyperfixation and urge to roleplay.

so what does all of that mean!!!! huh!!!!!! it seems important to me that breaking free off bonds is a topic in this. everyone dead seems to at least share this common burden. some sort of social obligation to bound them. who doesnt!! but this seems to be an important topic in this game.

battler's personal resolution haver theme is really good. he is so funny. he is not buying any of this. from a rational standpoint it is correct of his to keep his guard up and suspect the worst of his questionable relative. from a meta standpoint it is extremely funny and bizarre he would rather blame a relative than escape into the more calming belief that a magical being could be causing all of this. even when the servants all straight up tell him beatrice is a person.

battler said NO escapism. i accuse my aunt of murder like a man. and then he also threatened the servants into talking, i guess. well, let him be mean, he has lost so much....

it seems battler specifically was just born with the inability to see or talk to her. skill issue. so she has to communicate with him through others? AND THE THING IS he is right. there is no reason to believe in a witch. he might look silly to others but i get him though.

is this beatrice in the room with us right now

servants of course accept beatrice as the culprit no problem and they seem to just straight up know that the six dead people were choosen by chance. interesting. so thats just one of the normal game rules? i guess? i had been wondering.

also i had not expected my comment about how natsuhi living reminded me of a game of werewolf to be this accurate. so maria's charm actually did it's due. wtf my questions are actually getting answered.

five years too late let’s analyze this. the commentary has gotten me back into gravity falls reigniting thoughts and insights i came to years ago

i love everything about this commentary in general it hits the points of humor, genuine analysis of the characters, but most of all im so glad hirsch addressed that the droid not detecting any fear from dipper here doesnt make any scientific sense because that was a massive CinemaSins moment for me

IDK the fact that dipper can fucking stand after an airship crash because theres a bigger threat at hand is literally one of the defining capabilities owed to adrenaline lol...... IM SORRY im a biopsychology student if i dont point that out iwill seethe and die because that was just . its a grudge ive held for a long time about this episode but didnt rant about because it was something so minor and i’m sure nobody would care.

i was 13 when this episode came out and i’m almost 19 now, i had a special interest in biology and i still do but now i’m actually having college classes in biopsychology so i can give my arguments more oomph now. and i have to say, now that i know more about the brain and autonomic nervous system the more this scene bugs me, if that was even possible. and it says a lot of dipper and ford’s relationship.

if dipper clearly wasnt calm before, why would he be now just because he’s put up an outwardly confident facade? before he was in the flight but now hes in the fight. my boy just rode on top of a spaceship by nothing but a magnet gun that could detach at any time if it failed and then the ship crashed, he sustained injuries, is in emotional turmoil because he thinks his uncle is Fucking Dead and the threat of a security droid that detects adrenaline is on his tail and produces a Big Fucking Gun in response to dipper saying “i hAvE a MaGNeT gUn” and hes screaming and has his teeth clenched but sure there’s no adrenaline coursing through his body in that moment i can totally believe that

when dipper asks what happened, ford says “the orb didn’t detect any chemical signs of fear, it assumed the threat was neutralized and self-disassembled” but i don’t think measuring someone’s heartbeat alone is particularly relevant in detecting ... chemical signs of fear?? they dont really tell you this shit but noradrenaline (and maybe adrenaline too if the acetylcholine from sympathetic outflow always activates the adrenal medulla??, theres two pathways) is always active in small quantities to make sure your parasympathetic nervous system doesnt slow your heart to dangerous levels on its own, regardless of your emotions. it’s just a homeostatic mechanism. your sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems are CONSTANTLY modulating control of your organs on a see-saw, literally with every breath you take. simply standing upright causes specialized mechanoreceptor neurons in blood vessels to signal your brain to project signals to release catecholamines via the sympathetic nervous system to constrict your blood vessels so that blood is able to reach your brain and not pool in your legs. i have a deficiency in my body’s ability to adapt to this which is why i know so much about it. if i stand up my heart races to compensate. i’m not feeling fear, my body is just adjusting—albeit grossly and incompetently lol.

but what im saying here is that the security system is flawed. it’s a cool idea to have security droids detect fear, but in practice by detecting adrenaline, and not even directly by detecting the molecule itself—it’s done in a roundabout way by reading the heartbeat, could be a recipe for false alarms. like what if someone’s on beta-blockers. that’s not really an adequate way to measure “fear”; there’s so many variables that could interfere with the measurement the farther you abstract from what you’re really trying to detect. and besides, adrenaline is NOT just a sign of fear, it’s just for preparing the body for action. i know the sympathetic nervous system and adrenaline is constantly linked with the “fight-or-flight” reaponse to a stressor, but 99.9% of the time the sympathetic nervous system is used in your life is to balance out your parasympathetic nervous system to maintain homeostatic equilibrium for mundane things.

i think detecting amygdalar activation would be more efficient in detecting fear. the amygdala sends projections to the hypothalamus which then in turn modulates the autonomic nervous systems. but the amygdala is intensely activated specifically in response to a fear-inducing stimulus (it does activate in response to other emotions but they’re mostly negative and is most activated by startle and fear), and wouldnt be highly activated by many other confounding variables like measurement of the heartbeat could be. the amygala is one of the first stops directly from external stimuli.

to show you how integrated the amygdala is as the first step in registering fear after receiving input from sensory stimuli let’s look at the auditory-amygdala connection for example

see how the auditory thalamus projects to the primary auditory cortex and auditory association cortex? the cortex is where conscious awareness of what the stimuli is comes from. this is the “high road”. it goes sensing -> perception -> emotional response. but sometimes you can be startled without even processing what it is you’re sensing, like the startle response of an alarm or a phone ringing in a quiet house before you even register what it is. this goes sensing -> emotional response, without perception happening until after you’ve already felt the startle. that’s when it takes the “low road”. here’s a simplified version:

even if that were the case with these droids though it’s obvious dipper is still fearful on some level here. his body language, voice, expressions all give it away. for the amygdala, aggression isnt too off from fear so it would be detected equally.

the reason this is so important is because ford uses this as evidence for why dipper is special, “i did it?” “you did it. this is what i was talking about, how many 12 year olds do you think are capable of doing what you’ve just done?”

but like....did he really? i’m not saying this to shoot dipper down or make him out to be more of a wuss, he was incredibly strong-willed here and i dont want to take that away from him because it WAS growth on his part. but the underlying psychophysiological reactions of aggression and fear shouldn’t be that different and this was a total asspull. maybe the droid was so old that it fucked up. maybe dipper being covered in grime and dirt made it harder for the droid to measure the correct heart rate through photoplethysmography (im assuming since they use a camera and are non-contact).

and in all honesty everything i just said brings into question the interpersonal healthiness of ford’s judgements, what he thinks, his expectations, and how he communicates that. in this video alex already talks about how ford is projecting onto dipper. and i think ford may be projecting his expectations for himself onto people who are not him, and the fact that it’s on dipper here makes it far more unfortunate. you realize how much this boy idolizes ford, right? how much impressions matter? dipper even tells himself before he leaves in this same episode, “all right dipper, this is your first big mission with great uncle ford. don’t mess this up.”

even though it’s unstated, the implicit message dipper is perceiving from ford based on their dynamic is: “do you have what it takes for me to be proud of you?” and to accomplish this he must be like ford, even though he’s clearly not and he knows this. he says “i don’t think have what it takes. i was tricked by bill, i was wrong about stan’s portal, heck, i can’t even operate this magnet gun right.” then, by simple chance without even knowing what he did, he activates the magnet gun and pulls out the adhesive, which immediately takes the focus away from what dipper was telling ford about his feelings of inadequacy to ford saying, “yes! dipper, you found the adhesive!”

these thoughts of dipper’s hang in the air without resolve or comment from ford. we don’t know what ford would have said. but it then becomes painfully self-evident in the scene immediately after when the droids emerge and ford tells dipper, “they’re security droids and they detect adrenaline. you simply have to not feel any fear and they won’t see you”, to which dipper replies with an exasperated (and rightful) “WHAT?”

dipper goes in a panic trying to indirectly tell his uncle that this isn’t something he can do. and he is completely right and valid to be freaked out by that full stop. that IS crazy. you can’t control your fear. you can control how you interpret that fear in your higher brain regions but the physiological changes will stick around for longer than it takes to cognitively calm down. it’s easy for me to detach from my emotions to analyze them, but being able to do this does not come naturally for everyone. even i have an irrational fear of wasps and i can’t control it by detaching myself, my body is just automatically primed to get the fuck out of there. i know it’s stupid and i know it’s irrational and isn’t helpful to get myself worked up but i literally can’t stop how my body reacts no matter how i cognitively think about it. expecting composure from dipper in a situation like this when he’s being made to consciously be aware of his anxiety is absolutely fucking insane. look what you did, placing these cruel expectations on him, now he’s afraid of being afraid! this isn’t a case where two wrongs cancel out, they just stack on top of each other.

there’s a good reason these scenes were put side by side but it seems up until now it had remained unanalyzed.

what dipper fears from ford is disappointment. not living up to his uncle’s (quite frankly badly placed) expectations for a twelve year old with anxiety. not once did ford say or subliminally communicate “i don’t expect you to be able to do what i can since you are not as experienced as i am and that’s perfectly okay, no judgements”. you don’t put a child on bike before training wheels. you don’t throw a kid into a swimming pool without giving them swimming lessons. the way ford is doing it, there’s no room for trial and error or mistakes that are an opportunity to grow and learn; instead, it’s life or death. he only seems to pride dipper on what he can do while ignoring the underlying struggles that plague him and never making it known it’s okay for dipper to fail in front of his hero and that he won’t think anything less of him for it.

and that’s why i found the ending scene for dipper and ford’s adventure in this episode to feel so.. wrong. on a scientific and social level. because by the sound of it ford focused more on what dipper had done to dismantle the droid (the droid not detecting any fear) instead of how dipper displayed love and protection for him even if he was truly afraid. what if the science was accurate and the droid detected adrenaline while dipper was confidently standing up for his uncle. would ford still be proud of him regardless?

why mcyttwt does not think some (if not most) of the time when it comes to mcc

if i post this in twitter, i’d surely get hated upon but someones gotta have to say this one day. also this does not target to mcytblr!!! this rant is more of towards mcyttwt!!!

remember how mcyt was so chill before all of this shit? how we would watch our favorite minecraters when the community was so small? or how mcc was an event that both ccs and fans can have some fun and entertainment once per month? and that was only last year too. now look at the new generation of mcyt fans and see why some of the old fans dont really associate the new ones.

as a fan of the old gen mcytbers like DanTDM, SkyDoesMinecraft, Aphmau and CaptainSparklez. heck im a fan of pewds’ minecraft series before dream or tommy or ranboo or the new gen of mcyt ccs blew up (a year before them if im correct), and we dont see drama or bad shit all the time when it comes to their content.

now compare that to the new gen where every single fucking day, a bored fan or anti would post shit drama in twitter where some of the people from twitter moved to tumblr just to not get a headache from the batshit craziness mcyttwt brought forth. and it just snapped more when the mccp21 rolled in.

heres some of my takes about the mccp21 issue:

1) “there’s a lack of representation of lgbtq+ in the teams!!!”

heres something to tell yall about that. scott doesnt have a fucking choice. scott smajor has told time and time again, WEEKS before the announcement of teams, that there are certain requirements and limitations to mccp21 thus there will be difficulty in choosing whos entering or whos not. limitations and requirements such as it will be streamed on youtube or how streamers with twitch contracts aren’t allowed to stream or (god bless scott’s good heart) scott not allowing some of the lgbtq+ streamers in joining the special event due to wanting them to have a chance to stream and experience their first mcc (so to those who said that ranboo should have been in mccp21, shut up ‘cuz scott wanted genderman to have fun streaming his first mcc but cant due to ranboo being a well-known twitch streamer). to those who complained that ant and velvet should be in the mcc, stop being selfish and do some actual research on why scott didn’t include them. a simple question to those two’s fans would answer that they can’t make it due to them camping for a week which within those days is the mccp21. they’re having time to themselves, not wasting it on a minecraft championship.

take in the consideration that, oh i dont know, not a lot of lgbtq+ ccs applied to the event? its not a free invite championship (in fact, mcc has always been like that), it’s an applied with the sufficient and correct requirements kind of event. the artist who created the icons from the previous mcc for the teams said that scott let in some of the new ccs in last minutes due to lack of applicants not meeting the requirements thus not having custom artworks for the teams if they want to announce the teams in time.

2.) “there’s no lesbians or trans in the teams >:(((”

sadly enough, there’s not much of the players from the lgbtq+ community but to say there’s no trans people in mccp21 is utterly false. by definition, trans mean denoting or relating to a person whose sense of personal identity and gender does not correspond with their birth sex. other genders such as non-binary, genderfluid, androgyne, bigender, gender expansive all fall under trans. you define yourself with the gender you personally chose and comfy with from you birth gender. so saying there’s no trans in the teams when there are players from the event like eret or sqaishey who are nb and genderfluid respectively are there to also represent not only the sexuality but also the gender identity of others??? like c’mon, please make sense mcyttwt.

also, while its sad to not see lesbians, please know that lgbtq+ doesn’t strictly be defined by lesbians. ffs, lgbtq+ literally means Lesbians Gays Bisexuals Transgenders and Questioning (or Queer but im not too sure about that one) which means that there are still other representatives for the community in the event.

3) “technoblade is in the event?!!! WHAT THE FUCK, HES A HOMOPHOBE/LESBIPHOBE-”

utter clowns, toxic twitter users are. do you really think that scott smajor, an openly gay man, would let a supposed “homophobe/lesbiphobe” in an event that focuses in supporting the lgbtq+ community? do you hear yourself? do you even do research where the joke he made was when he was the same age as me and it was based on a historical article back in WW2? or how he passionately supports the community especially the lesbians because a lesbian couple complimented him to which kickstart his confidence? the man willingly went to this mcc event despite being flamed a lot in twitter because he (and everyone) knows that his chat, his fans and supporters, are literal millionaires. if you saw a stream from foolish where he auctioned canonical characters for funs, a techno fan donated thousand of dollars to get technoblade, and that’s only one fan, now imagine a hundreds of thousands of them.

like it or not, technoblade has always been open about his support to the community, especially that majority of his fanbase are from the same community that mcyttwt allegedly swore that technoblade hates.

4) “since this mccp21 is pointless because theres no dteam, quackity, punz or (insert cc name), let’s have a watch party of the previous mccs to spite mccp21!!!” “let’s hope (insert cc name) stream on the 26th so mccp21 doesnt have the same amount of viewership like before!!!” “where are (insert cc name)??? gosh, this mcc is so boring without them!!!”

shut up shut up shut up shut up shut the actual fuck up. are you really seriously hearing yourself? are you willing and proudly boycotting a once in a year special event that is seriously needed by the lgbtq+ community? are you that cruel and selfish to sacrifice a project that helped tons of people just for your sick entertainment and desires? are you that evil to stop others from enjoying and donating to the trevor project? are you that inconsiderate of other ccs that aren’t part of dsmp and calling them boring? and for what? because your favorite cishet streamer isn’t there? oh booofuckinghoo! you’re so fucking petty to even post about this kind of tweets in public.

(edit: did yall honestly thought that without your favorite streamers that the mcc is not worth watching because they aren't there? well let me tell you, im a ranboo fan. ive watched him when he first entered the dsmp and watched him spinning in his unicorn chair for 5 minutes. the boo community waited for so many months for genderman to join mcc yet we didn't even do that kind of disgusting action and behavior every time he isn't in mcc. 8 months. that's how long ive watched him. ive waited 8 months for him to be in the event yet i still watch other povs like tommy's, puffy's, wilbur's, and etc., because it's fun and entertaining to watch them despite the beloved not participating in the games.

if you're that spoiled to not even watch mcc because (insert cc whose not part of mccp21 name here) isn't part of the roster then you most likely have a one dimensional humor because there will always be someone more funny and entertaining than them. i like dsmp don't get me wrong, but i found parrot's school smp funnier than dsmp yet you don't see me insulting both series, do you? learn to keep yourself if you're calling ccs as boring or dull or not entertaining enough due to not having the same big platform as the dsmp members.)

you don’t deserve to call yourself a fan if you’re doing this kinds of actions. in fact, people like you should be kicked out from the mcyt community because your kind of people are the reason why we look so bad from the outside. your toxic and self-entitled to these content creators are the reason why famous ccs like sbi, purpled, tubbo and almost ranboo left twitter/implied strict rules to their subtwts. you drove out an entire friend group that tons of fans found comfort in from the platform and you still have the audacity to this kind of shit? honestly, just leave before you give me a headache.

what im sayin’ is that mcyttwt is one of the worst, if not THE worst, subtwts out of the other subtwts in twitter. having no actual research or evidences or spreading false information is common in twitter where you would have to take what they said with a micro size grain of salt. mcyttwt already ruined the fun and spirit of mcc during its comeback in mcc14 due to the glitch and beta testing shit (ey i still stand for the ranboo beta testing but i know that will be worthless since theres hints of him joining soon in mcc15). if you’re still in mcyttwt, i suggest to get out of there while you still can. we’ll never know if there’s a bigger shitstorm than this in the mcyttwt that may happen in the future.

edit! hi bella again, ive been told by a polite and cool user that not all people from mcyttwt are toxic and/or cruel. im going to clear something up here. ive written this during the heat of the announcement of mccp21 teams. so there's a lot of complains and/or entitled people in the app (you can even see it in my previous post too if you want evidences!) that gave off mostly negative vibes towards the event.

ive seen the cool ones who actually took the consideration for scott's side and the criticism of the lack of representation of other communities within the lgbtq+ umbrella (ive even share some parts of it above so im also a bit upset to the lack of numbers in the community). and some of them are correct about recruiting lgbtq+ creators in youtube but! like i said, it's an applied event and not invitational one, so its up to that content creator if they want to join or not. the amount of cishet in the roster are just those who want to support the cause and/or backups/stand-ins in case scott and noxcrew can't find enough ccs in time!

just wanna clear this up because mcyttwt these days are covered by really cringe fans (ive noticed a pattern of them mostly new ones but there are still awesome new fans (like my irl friend who just joined this year) within the community) that covered the good ones where they enjoy, have fun and share some neat ideas and thoughts to the community within the platform!

when i said to get out of the mcyttwt while you still can, i meant to get out of there to avoid drama (that is really small contrast those who really need to address the issue) and take a break from it. it's still your choice if you want to be surround by it or not or if you want to come back to the app. all im saying is to buckle up for the shitstorm cuz this is not the last time that the twitter side of mcyt will cause negativity to the community.

“ You’re back earlier than anticipated” Your voice rang through the hall; Grayson almost freezing in place as he realised you knew of his leave.

“ Had stuff to do? What-did Bruce call you and tell you to bring back all your suits?’’, your voice echoed in a lower tone whilst you began to make your way to Grayson’s position in the titans tower. This wasn’t the first time he’d made these spontaneous leaves in the late hours of night, in fact, he’d been notorious the past few weeks due to this.

“ You keep sneaking out Grayson- It’s concerning for your health and it’s beginning to erk me” You declared, analysing the state of your partner Dick Grayson. His hair and outfit were dishevelled, and the expression he wore looked dismissive.

“ There’s nothing to be concerned about I’m telling you” He affirmed in an attempt to calm, his hands pulling your shoulders in for a quick kiss on the lips. But you weren’t buying any of it at all. The late night trips and not even in masked attire were more than a red flag to you.

Whilst he was still close to you, his chest pressed against yours comfortably; you seized the opportunity to ask,

“ Who do you fuck in the city when I’m not here?” You asked, a both serious and sarcastic demeanour about you as you did. This ‘inquiry’ greatly perplexed Grayson, his brows furrowing at the sudden remark.

‘ I don’t ‘fuck’ anyone- if anything you fuck me’ Grayson confirmed, eyes rolling when he caught your lip bite and rolled eyes in his peripheral.

He was right, all the times you guys had gone at it; you never gave him a chance to get on top. It was always you calling him a good boy, or getting him to moan into your mouth.

“ I’m always on top- Grayson.” You whispered into the brunettes ear. This was the first time the both of you ever hooked up, and him trying to put you into missionary just wasn’t your style whatsoever.

With your words, you heard Grayson exhale in relief as you began to grind on him from on top; almost too slow for his liking.

However, when he attempted to place his hands on your waist in order to create more friction- you pushed him down so he was no longer sitting up and held his wrists with your own, soft hands.

“ Go faster-Please go faster” Grayson pleaded, impending whimpers and moans coming closer as you moved your hips in variating circles.

“ What are you gonna be for me Grayson?” You asked, now moving one of your hands from his wrist to his chin; which you used to lead him up to you in order to kiss you.

“ I’ll be good”

Now wasn’t the time for sultry recalls, now was the time for questions and answers. Grayson picked up on that, it was evident in the way your shoulders stiffened and lips perched seriously.

“Listen- All i’m asking is for you to trust me” Dick attempted to request, him now walking towards you as you leaned onto the kitchen counter, walking away from the hall in which he kissed you in.

“ Yeah and i’d love to Grayson- but sneaking out without specifying makes that difficult”

Grayson knew you were right; I mean anyone would’ve. No matter how much you trusted Grayson’s strength, abilities and affirmations- you were unsure of his late night ‘shenanigans’ to say the least.

With a sigh, Grayson had no choice but to tell you.

“ Theres more information on Jason” Grayson finally admitted, your ragged sigh in response lacing both relief and disappointment. You had the misfortune of running ‘red hood’ Jason once before; and was almost burnt to a crisp in the process. So hearing that Grayson was risking himself just to get some gossip about the opposition rather than ask you sort of annoyed you.

“ You’re a dumbass- and i’m being serious about that” you insulted, the tips of your thumb and forefinger rubbing at your temples in annoyance; almost as if the situation brought you a headache.

“ Look at what happened last time? You almost got incinerated by the guy. I do not want that happening again”

“ So you decide to put yourself at risk by asking around on the street about him? At night- with no fucking disguise?? What if he finds out about you meddling in his business and tries to get you when you’re unarmed?”, you almost interrogated, eyes narrowing more and more as your sentences continued.

“ Jason isn’t like that-“

“ Jason is dead Grayson- he died after he killed Hank.” You rekindled, sighing once more at the memory; Hank was a dear friend to you as you always felt that his actions and reasonings were similar to yours. So after he was blown to smithereens and you almost joining him in less than a few hours after; your growing hatred for Todd only grew stronger.

Your words were correct wether Grayson wanted to admit it or not, the Jason that once took the title of Robin was long gone. But Grayson wasn’t about to let him sabotage his and yours ‘relationship’.

“ I know- And I’m sorry, I should’ve let you at least help a little bit- or explain” He apologised, eyes being accented by the bellowing light above you both. At this point, the greeting was almost too depressing to bare; leaving you no choice but to lighten the mood.

“ At least you aren’t fucking anybody”

“ Is that seriously what you’re concerned about right now?”

“ I have my priorities”

Courtney going on tour right after?

Theres a misconception that after Kurts death, Courtney went straight on tour right away. This is false. The album was already set to release a few days after and they couldnt change that on such a short notice. Promotion for the album was cancelled and she pushed back the tour 4 months.

“Live Through This was supposed to provide Love an opportunity to step out from her famous husband’s shadow. “It’s annoying now, and it’s been annoying for nine years, Love said in a 1999 Jane Magazine interview of always being connected to Cobain. Released four days after Cobain’s body was found, the album’s promotion was put on hold. Rather than retreat from the public eye, Love openly mourned and helped fans of Cobain and Nirvana make sense of the singer’s death. She sat with grieving teenagers gathered outside the couple’s Seattle home and recorded a reading of parts of his suicide note that was played at the singer’s memorial that gathered near the Space Needle. In the days following his death, Love showed a very raw and emotional side and admitted that, like many fans, she didn’t have all the answers.

It was, and still is, impossible for people to discuss Live Through This without noting the irony of the album’s title. Love has said the name was not a prediction at all, but instead a reflection of all she had endured in the months leading up to its release, including a very public custody fight with the Los Angeles Department of Family Services over daughter Frances Bean. Rumors suggested that Cobain had written much of Live Through This (it’s Miss World, not Mister, just FYI). “I’d be proud as hell to say that he wrote something on it, but I wouldn’t let him. It was too Yoko for me. It’s like, ‘No fucking way, man! I’ve got a good band, I don’t fucking need your help,’” was Love’s response to critics in Spin’s oral history of Live Through This. Love and Cobain often shared notebooks and lyrics with each other, and while there is talk of Cobain’s influence on Love’s work, or the writing of all of it, less is mentioned in the press of her impact on his lyrics and music. Rather than sucking all the life out of Nirvana or threatening the success of the band, like many assumed she would do, she inspired Cobain. Fun fact: In Utero, Nirvana’s last album, was named after a line from one of Love’s poems.

Sadly, songwriting rumors would be replaced by other rumors. Women are often vilified and condemned for the deaths of their male partners. Love, like all women, was supposed to save her partner from death and addiction. Fans of Cobain projected all their anger and resentment over the loss of the Nirvana front man onto Love, and soon she was blamed for not only his addiction but also his death. There are even two movies devoted to the theory that Courtney killed Kurt: the awful Soaked in Bleach (2015) and the equally awful Kurt & Courtney (1998). If you think we’ve come a long way, baby, sadly we haven’t.

One year after Anthony Bourdain’s death, Asia Argento is still being blamed, and in September 2018, Ariana Grande had to take a break from social media after fans blamed her for the death of her ex Mac Miller. A few months later, she would be blamed for new beau Pete Davidson’s mental health and addiction issues. It’s amazing she finds the time to write hit songs what with all the dude destruction she has going on. When women are not being blamed for the deaths of the men in their lives, they are being attacked for not grieving properly. “She wasn’t crying. She’s got $30 million coming to her. Do you blame her for being so cool?” a hospital staffer said of Yoko Ono following John Lennon’s murder in 1980.

About four months after Cobain’s death, Love went on tour to promote her new album. Some questioned and judged why she would go on tour so soon, but Love has said it was a necessity. She had a young daughter to support. She needed to work. She also, sadly, still needed to prove herself. “I would like to think that I’m not getting the sympathy vote, and the only way to do that is to prove that what I’ve got is real,” Love told Rolling Stone in 1994.

Twenty-five years later, Cobain’s death still hangs over Live Through This. In the days leading up to the anniversary of Cobain’s death, former Hole bassist Melissa Auf der Maur wrote an open letter to music magazine Kerrang saying she “would not stand for Kurt’s death overshadowing the life and work of the women he left behind this year.”

“We were extremely well designed for each other,” Love has said of her relationship with Cobain. In a letter reprinted in Dirty Blonde: The Diaries of Courtney Love, she calls him “my everything. the top half on my fraction.” The two had similar upbringings, both came from broken homes and spent childhoods shuttling between relatives and friends. They both grew up longing for love and acceptance. When we tell the story of Kurt and Courtney we talk about drugs and destruction, but we don’t talk enough about love.

The two also shared an intense drive and ambition. “I didn’t want to marry a rock star, I wanted to be one,” Love said in a 1992 Sassy interview. Evidence of her drive can be found in the many notes and to-do lists she kept, some of which are collected in Dirty Blonde. There are reminders to send her acting résumé to agencies, to write three to four new songs a week, to “achieve L.A. visibility.” A scene in the documentary Kurt & Courtney features an ex of Love’s reading from one of her to-do lists, which has “become friends with Michael Stipe” as the number one task to complete (not only did Love do this, but he is her daughter’s godfather). This ambition is not surprising from a woman who, when she was younger, mailed a tape of herself singing to Neil Sedaka in hopes of getting signed. Love knew what she wanted at an early age, and what she wanted was fame.

She was certainly living by the “do not hurt yourself, destroy yourself, mangle yourself to get the football captain. Be the football captain!” motto she championed in the 1995 documentary Not Bad for a Girl. Ambition is often a dirty word when it is used to describe women and Love is no exception. She has been repeatedly described as calculating and controlling when she should be rewarded for her blond ambition and viewed as an inspiration. Critics and the press often call her a gold digger who only married Cobain for fame and money. They fail to mention that when the two met Pretty on the Inside was actually selling more copies than Bleach, Nirvana’s debut album. Even post-Kurt, Love’s intentions were always under scrutiny. On the Today Show to do press for The People vs. Larry Flynt, Love refused to talk about her past drug use, despite the host’s repeated questions, saying the topic was not an appropriate fit for the show’s demographic. She was right, but it didn’t stop a writer from describing the move as “calculating” in a 1998 Spin piece.

Cobain was ambitious too; he was just much slyer and more secretive about it. He was known to call his manager and complain when MTV didn’t play Nirvana’s videos enough, and he would correct journalists who misquoted the band’s sales figures in interviews. While success is typically celebrated and rewarded for men and it certainly was for Cobain, he also had to be mindful of the slacker generation that loved Nirvana and greeted success — and especially mainstream success —

While female celebrities like Love are criticized for their rebellion, male celebrities, like Cobain for example, are celebrated and mythologized for it. Cobain and Love both struggled with addiction, but it is Love who is repeatedly vilified for her drug use. “She was vilified for being a mess, for being a drug addict, for not being a great parent — in other words, all of the things we expect in a male rock star,” said Bust magazine in a piece in the magazine’s 20th anniversary issue, which featured Love on the cover.

We make jokes about the drug antics of male celebrities from Keith Richards to Charlie Sheen, idolizing their debauchery and depravity. The new Netflix/Lifetime movie by Jack Daniels, The Dirt, about Mötley Crüe, takes the band’s excesses to almost comic levels. Check out crazy tourmate Ozzy Osbourne snorting a line of ants by a hotel pool! Such zany antics! I would love to see Lindsay Lohan try to get away with that. We never allow women to live down their arrests and their addictions, but we repeatedly allow men to have a redemption arc. Robert Downey Jr. was in and out of jail and on and off drugs for much of the mid to late ’90s, but we rarely, if ever, talk about his past.

When Love isn’t being attacked for her addiction issues, she is being judged for her parenting. Love’s first unflattering press was “Strange Love,” the much publicized 1992 Vanity Fair profile by Lynn Hirschberg. While the piece talks at length about Love’s drug use and constantly questions her parenting ability, it doesn’t paint Cobain in the same light. “It is appalling to think that she would be taking drugs when she knew she was pregnant,” says one close friend in the piece. Hirschberg relies on many unnamed sources and focuses often on the tabloid-like aspects of Love’s life and addictions. “Courtney has a long history with drugs. She loves Percodans (‘They make me vacuum’), and has dabbled with heroin off and on since she was eighteen, once even snorting it in Room 101 of the Chelsea Hotel, where Nancy Spungen died,” she writes. “Reportedly, Kurt didn’t do much more than drink until he met Courtney.” (Even when it is reported by Kurt and Krist that Kurt tried heroin in 1989, way before Courtney, It was also known that he smoked weed and used caugh syrup to get high in 1989 and 1990.)

This double standard was common in coverage of the couple. In Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, the 2015 documentary by Brett Morgen, Love asks her husband, “Why does everyone think you’re the good one and I’m the bad one?” Later in the film we see a scene of Frances Bean’s first haircut. The child sits on Cobain’s lap while Love searches for a comb and scissors. The camera shows Cobain nodding off, and while he maintains that he is just tired, it’s clear he’s not. The scene is painful to watch, especially because those around Cobain carry on like nothing in wrong, giving the feeling this is just like any other day in the Love-Cobain household. The scene is a reminder of how the press treated Cobain’s addiction when he was alive. They just carried on like nothing was wrong, instead directing all their judgement at Love.

My thoughts on the sexuality of some of my favorite X-files characters.

I posted this in my X-files amino back in June as part of a LGBTQ pride challenge and for some reason I only just thought to post it here as well.

Fox Mulder: openly bisexual

Mulder is so open sexually that I really don't think gender matters all that much to him. He does seem to prefer females but I wouldn't be even remotely surprised if he had a boyfriend or two in the past. I don't think he's flamboyant about his sexuality but I don't think he'd hide it at all either

My evidence:

In the season one episode "Ghost in the Machine" we meet an Mulder's ex-partner, Jerry, and I absolutely feel like there is an ex-lovers vibe to the both of them. They hug upon first seeing each other, Mulder looks incredibly happy to see him, when Mulder says they worked together Jerry corrects him to say they were partners at which point Mulder looks over at Scully as if to see her reaction. Mulder has this real guilty look to him. When Jerry acts a little self conscious Mulder is real quick to jump in and reassure him. They get in each other's personal space. It just really leaves me with the impression that they care deeply for one another and broke up for other reasons, perhaps the different career goals as Mulder tells Scully.

We also have Mulder with Krycek. From the very beginning of Krycek's involvement with the X-files I feel like the writers went out of their way to make a correlation between the change in partnership and a new partner in a relationship. There is a scene in Sleepless where Mulder and Scully are on the phone and Mulder tells Krycek he'll be right there, the rest of the conversation feels reminiscent of two exes chatting about the change brought about by the new relationship. Scully even brings up that it must be nice having a partner who doesn't question his every theory.

There were many scenes in Sleepless, Duane Barry, and Ascension in which Mulder and Krycek were alone but that we never got to see who knows for example what the two of them got to talking about while they were stuck in traffic during the drive to New York in Sleepless. Or how often they hung out between Sleepless and Duane Barry.

During Mulder and Scully's partnership Mulder only called her 'Dana' on a few emotional occasions. He started casually calling Krycek 'Alex' almost immediately.

Let us not forget the infamous speedo scene. While yes it definitely showed more of a Krycek attraction to Mulder than the opposite. It does make one wonder what led him to wear such a revealing bathing suit. How many straight men do you know who wear speedos? My guess is few. How many straight men wear speedos when they can reasonably assume their male partner will show up looking for them? Not many would be guess.

And then there is their relationship after Krycek is revealed to be a traitor. They both tend to act more like scorned lovers than enemies and notice that it's Mulder, not Krycek, who cannot seem to keep his hands off the other. Seriously it's like every time Krycek shows up, Mulder immediately grabs him.

Now here's a couple quotes from Mulder,

Krycek tells Mulder he most be losing it because Krycek beat him with one hand. Mulder's immediate reaction: "isn't that how you like to beat yourself?"

When the little man in Humbug is lined up pretty much exactly with Mulder's crotch he says that Mulder would be surprised how many women find his size alluring. Mulder's immediate reaction: "you'd be surprised how many men do as well"

How many straight guys do you know comfortable enough with their sexuality to make a gay innuendo? I personally cannot think of any.

Dana Scully: bicurious

I believe that Scully is sometimes attracted to women. It definitely is not as blatant as with Mulder and I really don't think she's had any past girlfriends but I definitely think that there is an attraction.

My evidence:

In the episode "Ice" I really felt like there are a few tender moments between her and Felicity Huffman's character especially while they were examining one another for the worms. That examination had a sort of sexual energy to it I thought.

In the episode "kill switch" theres a moment where the Invisagoth asked if she could have her handcuffs removed or if she should type with her tongue. Mulder mentions that she doesn't want a vote there and the look on Scully's face and the way she licks her lips, I definitely get the impression that she would have been perfectly happy to see what Invisagoth could get up to with that tongue.

Some people point to Scully's relationship with Reyes as evidence of her bisexuality, I personally don't see any attraction there on Scully's side but I don't think its outside the realm of possibility.

Monica Reyes: Closeted lesbian

This one's probably a surprise I know there was something between here and Brad as well as a flirtation with Doggett so you would probably think she was Bisexual but honestly was either one of those even remotely convincing? To me they weren't. I believe that Reyes is a lesbian.

I kind of go back and forth on whether she's open about it. Reyes is very spiritual and open so it seems strange that she would be in the closet but maybe she has a reason, fear of it affecting her career in the FBI perhaps? It just seems strange that she keeps pursuing these heterosexual relationships she has no passion for unless she is trying to hide her true passion.

My evidence:

I admit I really have very little evidence but look at the relationship between Reyes and Brad Follmer. It had all the chemistry of two people who got really drunk once and cannot remember sleeping together. I don't for a second believe she was ever in love with Brad nor he in love with her.

Then you've got the same thing between her and Doggett. Yes the writers were obviously trying for a romantic angle with the two of them but to me it never came across as convincing. It seemed more like she thought of him as a good friend and figured she might as well date him, I saw no evidence of love or attraction.

On the other hand look at her and Scully. While I feel like the attraction there was one sided I definitely feel like Reyes was into Scully or Dana as she would call her. Reyes was willing to risk her life for Scully and yes that is her job after all but Reyes seems to take that above and beyond and it's not just Scully herself but also William. Look at how protective Reyes is of William in The Truth and of the sacrifice Scully made in giving him up. She seems to care even more than Mulder on that.

Cigarette-Smoking-Man: Asexual

CSM has probably had sex at some point, he is of course the father of at least three children but I do not think that he was ever in love with any of these women or even attracted to them. I believe they were all just a means to an end.

I believe that CSM's only love was for his cigarettes

Evidence:

There is a little bit of evidence that he might have actually felt something for Teena Mulder but I don't buy it. He freely admits that he felt nothing for Cassandra Spender but he must've been convincing if he got her to marry him and we have seen him fake emotions more than once. He also seemed to show an attraction to Scully in En Ami but that too was just a means to an end. Perhaps he does feel something towards all the women he has impregnated but I wouldn't call it love. I don't see any real attraction there either. My bet is that CSM needed some "help" in order to produce his offspring.

Alex Krycek: Gay

While Krycek did have an obviously sexual relationship with Marita Covarrubias he definitely didn't have any real feelings for her and I don't buy attraction either. No I'd say they were both just trying to use sex to get what they wanted. His anger at finding the Russian boy gone wasn't because he was heartbroken at her betrayal. Merely mad that she'd managed to get the upper hand.

Whether Krycek is open or in the closet I'm not sure, I'm thinking it probably depends on the mission hes on at the time.

Evidence:

Of everyone on this list I'd say Krycek is the one I'm the most sure of. There is no doubt in my mind that Krycek was attracted to, perhaps even in love with, Fox Mulder. From the very beginning there appeared to be a bit of longing in his eyes.

There was the speedo scene wherein Krycek was definitely checking Mulder out. There were several scenes where Krycek could've killed Mulder but chose to help him instead.

As I've seen pointed out before, Krycek's crazy motivational choices don't make any sense at all unless it's all in an effort to be around Mulder more.

Look at his sense of style and his obvious love for lip gloss. I am not saying that straight men cannot love lip gloss and dress themselves in Krycek's fashion but it is uncommon and it was especially so back in the 90s

The infamous kiss in The Red and the Black could certainly be explained away as some kind of Russian custom but it isn't one that I am aware of and he hasn't really shown any other signs of his Russia heritage.

I would say my best evidence of Krycek's sexuality is in Essence and Existence, just look at the look on Krycek's face when Mulder trusts him to protect Scully. Krycek knows what Scully means to Mulder and then look at how seriously Krycek takes the job! I definitely feel like that moment meant a lot to him and he would have protected Scully with his life for Mulder.

There's also the fact that Krycek's unwillingness to kill Mulder lead to his own death.

Of course asking Skinner to shoot Mulder goes against this theory but I do have a couple thoughts on that, the most sensical being that he knew there was no chance Skinner would shoot Mulder and he probably knew there was no chance he would survive anymore. Maybe he made that request in hopes of sparing Mulder any pain he might have otherwise felt at his death (I know it's a bit of a stretch but my other theories require a long explanation of my thoughts on where the series had planned to go next)

The lone gunmen: no one knows....not even them

Three (I don't count Jimmy for this) single adult men who all live together in very cramped quarters and are, at least in Langley's case, perfectly happy to be around each other without thier clothes on certainly makes it seem like there's something between them all but I really don't get a overtly gay impression with any of them, even Langley who as mentioned doesn't like to wear pants and is the only one who hasn't had a love interest. They just have this sort of Vegas-esque thing. "What happens in the bachelor pad/newspaper room stays in the bachelor pad/newspaper room.

I would love to hear other people's thoughts on these and any other X-files characters you think might be somewhere on the LGBTQ spectrum.

She was and THATS OKAY it makes her more of a person in httyd 1 (which is why i lowkey have beef with rtte because they stripped my girl of her personality 😭)

the thing abt ppl saying Astrid was never mean that rlly floors me is that it’s literally her arc in httyd1???? Like she hates and disbelieves hiccup & also changes her mind - and that was rlly the point? that hiccup’s empathy could move even the most stubborn parts of Berk & to act like she was never mean to hiccup or that she was just ambivalent or even nice to him the whole time undermines the story they were telling! she has to be mean for the story To make sense!! idk why ppl keep insisting she wasn’t or that she always liked hiccup it doesn’t make ur ship look better & anyone who actually watches httyd knows otherwise??

i actually had a whole bit abt Astrid, her meanness & rtte before i lost the original reply. i think rtte‘s problem regarding this topic is that it does let Astrid be mean but then also acts as if she’s correct for it (the way it does for hiccup too) and it’s so ???? she’s so needlessly cruel following hiccup’s lead, and never learns from it and rtte acts like it’s actually good she’s that way. its like god please challenge her. and when ruff does Astrid doesn’t rlly learn anything?????? it’s so frustrating. It’s abt the only emotion she’s allowed in the whole show cause otherwise she’s just hiccup’s arm candy with the personality of a plank of wood and it’s !!!!!!!!! fuck. when she gets to interact with the others she’s way more interesting & starts to develop some semblance of a personality.

ppl honestly need to let Astrid suck a little bit. Be a bit of a cringe awkward weirdo. she’s mean and she’s not got very good interpersonal skills. the scraps of a backstory we get for her point to something so interesting and complex & are so compelling and then nothing gets done with them and it breaks my heart. i know she’s not the main character but like that’s what the tv series sequels is for - exploring other characters!! instead we get whatever rtte is

i think astrid isnt Good with kids. theres been no evidence before that she is, in fact she’s shown at being terrible at dealing with kids (Gustav) so like why would anyone think she just magically would? astrid is capable of compassion and empathy, but she struggles with it & she struggles with understanding how to appropriately moderate herself for people around her (you see it all the time with hiccup - she’s always hitting him too hard, or pushing. She doesn’t pick up on his cues or try to moderate herself for him, and she’s never shown to have consideration for the rest of the gang). i think in the end she is a good parent, but she struggles with it a lot and that’s okay! she spends a lot of time asking her mama questions

i don’t think she’d get along with valka at all actually. Astrid values loyalty & Berk and valka fucked off for twenty years so I rlly think Astrid has thinly veiled dislike for Valka. Valka should be oblivious to it. I rlly like the made up Valka I have in my head who’s got no social skills from living by herself for 20 years. we deserved that instead of “guys stop relying on your dragons“ like what

I rlly like Astrid & snotlout being bros and calling each other by their surnames.
