Hello! May I request hcs about Makoto, Rin, Seijuro and Sousuke (if possible!) Reacting to gn reader saying "It's so nice being hugged by you" or "you're so warm" when the character hugs them? Fluff. Sfw. Thank you!
Hey there! If you don’t mind, I wrote some headcanons and a small scenario in each one of the characters. Also, I apologize for this taking such a long time!
𝕲𝖊𝖓𝖗𝖊: Fluff
𝕬𝖓𝖎𝖒𝖊: Free!
𝕮𝖍𝖆𝖗𝖆𝖈𝖙𝖊𝖗𝖘 𝖎𝖓𝖈𝖑𝖚𝖉𝖊𝖉:
Makoto Tachibana
Seijuro Mikoshiba
Rin Matsuoka
Sousuke Yamazaki

-Okay so, in my opinion, I think Makoto gives the SOFTEST and WARMEST hugs ever!
He can wrap his hands around your body and it would feel like you made your way to heaven.
-Whenever you hug him, Makoto feels happiness and love that’s radiating from the hug.
-Anyways, it was a hard day for you, and all you wanted is to come back home and lay down on the bed and sleep.
-You walked your way back home and opened the front door, where you saw Makoto sitting on the couch in the living room.
-You put down your stuff and take off your shoes, shortly after, washing your hands in the bathroom and plopping onto the couch where Makoto was sitting.
-”Hey babe, how was your day?” He asks you in a soft voice.
-You mutter out something under your breath and Makoto realized that you were in a bad mood.
-He would wrap his hands around you softly, his body sharing his warmth with you as he makes small circles with his thumbs on your back with one of his hands.
-You would stay in that comfortable position and say: “You know, it’s so nice to be hugged by you.” You softly say.
-When you said that, Makoto’s face would fade from his normal skin color to the shade of crimson REAL QUICK.
-This guy over here would feel so happy and pleased with the words that just came out of your mouth that he will remember the compliment you gave him for the rest of his life.

-The first time he hugged you it felt warm and full of love.
-I feel like Rin is the type of boyfriend to give amazing hugs to his s/o. And ONLY to his s/o.
-So, when you both started to date, you were surprised of how loving the hugs he gave you were.
-Anyways, this night you were having a nightmare.
A nightmare that involved you and Rin getting into an argument and breaking up shortly after.
-You jump up as your eyes open faster than sonic could ever run, while sweat dripped down your forehead and back.
-You look to your side and see Rin, peacefully sleeping.
-”It was just a nightmare...” You sigh in relief as you whisper under your breath.
-”Is everything okay? You were moving around like crazy, did you dream a nightmare?” You hear a male voice say.
-You turn your head to Rin’s side of the bed where you see him sitting up and scratching his head.
-”Yeah, sorry if I woke you u-”
And not even letting you finishing your sentence, Rin embraces you into a loving, soft, warm hug.
-He puts his head into the crook of your neck and calmly breathes.
-”Don’t be scared love, everything’s going to be okay.” Rin whispers into your ear.
-”Rin, can I tell you something?” You ask him. -”Sure?”
-”You give the warmest and loving hugs I’ve ever felt, I’m serious.”
-You couldn’t see what Rin’s reaction was, but let me tell you that he felt like he’s about to faint.
-Rin didn’t expect for you to say that, so you caught him off guard by the pleasing and loving words you told him.
-He felt like fainting because people don’t usually say that to him, and hearing that coming out of his s/o felt like heaven.
-A smile on his face grew bigger, as his cheeks radiated the sweet color of pink.

-Seijuro gives really energetic and relaxing hugs to his s/o. So, expect the hug to be nice, you would be able to relax into the hug and it would feel really good.
-He hugs you quite a lot too.
-Anyways, this day, you were sick.
-Your nose was stuffy and you throat hurt.
Yesterday, you went out with your friends to the town to hang out. And I guess you didn’t know that it’ll get colder by the hour, so you came back home with freezing legs and arms.
-You told your boyfriend, Seijuro, that you weren’t feeling well today, and that you won’t be able to come over to his place today.
-What you didn’t know is that he will come to you.
That means he’s literally sprinting to your place with medicine in his hands while worrying if everything’s okay with you.
-He knocked on your door straight after and you, so lazily, opened it.
-”What the heck are you doing here?!” You say in shock, trying to not higher your voice.
-”No time to talk! I’ll make you hot soup and give you some medicine!” Seijuro gets into the house and puts the medicine on your table.
-You say nothing. Just watch him freak out over you getting a little cold.
-Then, you start to quietly laugh, as you couldn’t contain yourself.
-Seijuro looks at you with a confused look on his face. “What’s so funny?”
-”Oh nothing, it’s just that you got so freaked out over a little cold, that I couldn’t contain myself.” You answer him.
-Seijuro looks at you and sighs, starting to make his way to you.
-He slowly wraps his hands around your fragile body.
“Maybe I had over reacted a little bit-” He says with a small smile.
-You giggle softly, and hug him back.
“Ya know, the only thing that can make me feel better right now are your hugs. You are literally so warm, I love it.” You say quietly, enough for him to hear.
-His reaction is rather cute. He will hug you a bit tighter and cling onto you, not wanting to let go.
-”Could we maybe go si-”
-”No.”
-He will also kiss your cheek repeatedly.
-He felt so happy by your words he thought that he has achieved the ultimate goal of life. (ikr, kinda dramatic but still cute)
𝕾𝖔𝖘𝖚𝖐𝖊 𝖄𝖆𝖒𝖆𝖟𝖆𝖐𝖎
Tumblr media
-The first time you hugged him, he was a bit stiff as he wasn’t used to that type of thing.
-Though, after he did get used to hugging you, he will do it nonstop.
-You get up, he hugs you. You go to sleep, he hugs you. You walk, he hugs you.
-He loves hugging you but he won’t admit it, even though it’s already really obvious.
-That day, you were out at the library trying to study for an upcoming exam.
-And before you knew it, night time has come.
-You took the bus home and look at your phone to see over 20 messages from your boyfriend, Sousuke.
--------------
Sousuke:
Hey, where are you?
Y/n?
Y/n are you okay?
Y/n what happened?
Why aren’t you texting back?
Y/n?!
*and 14 more*
--------------------
-”Crap-” You think to yourself and quickly text him back, explaining that your phone was off and you were trying to study.
-Not after a second later you get a text back from him saying that he’s waiting outside your place.
-Soon enough, you arrive.
-Sousuke, seeing you, runs over and hugs you tightly.
-”H-Hey! Is everything okay...?” You ask him.
-Sousuke doesn’t answer, just moves closer to you.
-You sigh and smile lightly, giving into the hug and closing your eyes.
-Your body relaxed and you felt happy that he worried about you.
-”You do know you shouldn’t worry about me this much.” You say.
-Sousuke shakes his head no.
-”Sometimes, you act like a child, a child that gives the warmest and softest hugs I’ve ever felt.”
-Suddenly, you feel your body being lifted up.
-”What are you-!”
-He slowly picks you while giving you a warm smile.
-He felt relieved everything's okay with you, but also pleased by your words.
-His cheeks were pinkish and it looked like he was blushing.
-After you told him that he gives good hugs, he started to hug you even more.
---------------------
OkAy, I’m so sorry once again for taking such a long time to write this-
I love you, and hope you have a nice rest of your day!

Inukag Royalty Au *in honor of Tanabata coming up, it was worked into the chapter 😊
“Oh, look Rin, there’s a traveling marionette show today. Do you want to watch?” She and Kagome had been wandering around the marketplace when they stumbled onto it.
“Yeah!” The child squealed in delight. “I’ve seen them before and they’re really good!”
“I think we got here just in time,” Kagome scanned for a seat. “There,” she pointed, “let’s sit down before it starts.”
It was quite amazing to see this group of traveling entertainers. Such troops would pass through her own kingdom, but Kagome was rarely allowed to leave the castle to watch them. From what she could see on their signs, they put on different shows for adults with a variety of acts, and puppet shows for the children, staying for a few days before moving onto the next town. The story they were about to perform was a classic tale of the star-crossed lovers Orihime and Hikoboshi. It was cute, albeit a bittersweet tale of eternal longing. Just as the show was getting ready to start, Kagome felt a body sit down beside her. She glanced over with her peripheral to make sure they weren’t a problem and noticed a familiar set of claws on the persons hands.
“Prince?” Kagome whispered not wanting to draw attention. “What are you doing here?”
“Miroku and I saw you two,” Inuyasha whispered back.
Kagome leaned forward a tiny bit and noticed Miroku on the other side of Inuyasha who nodded in recognition. “I see…”
“We we’re bored,” Inuyasha threw in, “so decided to join you.”
The comment made Kagome chuckle, which then caught Rin’s attention, who looked over and saw the men. The child’s eyes lit up at seeing her uncle and in her excitement, she got off her seat and quickly plopped herself onto Inuyasha’s lap.
“Guess I’m just a chair now,” he chuckled too. "Behave and watch the show or I’ll kick you off my lap.”
“I’m always a good girl,” the child retorted with a grin before turning back to the stage.
And she was. Rin sat enthralled by the whole production. They really were as good as she’d portrayed to Kagome. From the quality of the marionettes to the actor’s voice work, they truly pulled you into the story. But for the adults, it brought on a different wave of emotions, at least it did for Kagome. While the story was beautiful, she could identify with Princess Orihime’s longing for the one she’d fallen in love with despite her father’s rules… and to be torn apart because of it… At least, the Princess in the tale got to see her love once a year. Kagome won’t be able to do the same. She didn’t notice the small frown growing on Inuyasha’s face, because she avoided looking in his direction. He was her Hikoboshi, but she didn’t want him to notice the moisture clouding her eyes or realize how much the story was having an effect on her.
Once the final act was complete, the puppeteers came out from behind the curtain to bow to the audience’s wild applause. It was a great success for most including Rin who was clapping and bouncing on her uncle’s lap with excitement. Kagome was happy the child enjoyed the performance even though it took a toll on her.
“I love this story…” both Kagome and Inuyasha mumble at the same time, causing them to stiffen and turn to face the other.
“You do?” Inuyasha questioned.
“It’s sweet,” Kagome responded with heat coloring her cheeks. “Even though I feel bad for them.”
“Me too.” Inuyasha mumbled. “It’s not fair.”
Her eyes slightly widen, fully understanding what he was feeling in that moment. But as much as she would have loved to say more, Kagome knew she couldn’t, not in public like this.
“What’s not fair?”
Leave it to Rin to bring them back to the present.
“Oh, um,” Kagome quickly gave her attention to the little girl. “What uncle Inu means is it’s sad that Orihime and Hikoboshi only get to see each other once a year.”
After a brief pause, the child’s eyes widened. “Ohhhh,” Rin acknowledged her understanding. “Yeah, that’s not very fair. But at least they found someone.” She turned around and looked up. “Isn’t that a good thing uncle Inu?”
Again, the innocence of a child worked wonders for lightening the mood.
“Yes,” Inuyasha smiled down at his niece. “It is a good thing.” But his eyes drifted towards Kagome as he continued. “I’m sure Hikoboshi appreciates all the time he gets to spend with his Orihime.”
For several seconds the pair hold a gaze with one another. No words needed to communicate a sense of longing despair. Kagome may have been painfully aware of Inuyasha’s insinuation, but so was Miroku. The princes guard cleared his throat loudly, breaking the moment. “Inuyasha, we should get back to our patrols.” He spoke matter of fact.
“Right,” the hanyo grumped. Miroku constantly warned him about letting his true feelings slip, and even though he knew his friend was just looking out for him, Inuyasha didn’t need to like it. He sighed. “Okay Rin, time to get off. Uncles gotta go back to work.”
“Okay!” Rin jumped off his lap and stood next to Kagome who’d also risen to her feet. “We should finish our shopping and get back to the castle too,” she took hold of the child’s hand. “Say goodbye to your uncle Rin.”
“Bye uncle Inu!” She waved as the pair made their way back into the throng of market goers.
For the rest of the day, Kagome pushed aside the incident in the marketplace. Why think about it when it would only make her sadder at her circumstances, especially since for Rin it had been a fun experience hanging out with her uncle. She didn’t want the child to see that side of life for as long as possible. Even at dinner, Inuyasha was quieter than usual, but Kagome didn’t want to assume anything, so she went about her routines like normal pretending everything was fine. Sometimes it was easier to ignore reality. That is until Rin was already tucked into bed and Kagome headed towards the library to get some reading done. If there was one thing that could take her mind off most things it entailed drowning her thoughts in an academic book.
Most of the time.
Of all the stories that troop could have chosen for a children's play, why a sad love story? Why not a fanciful fairytale like a prince saving a princess from an evil villain or an adventurer searching for treasure and fame? But it wouldn’t be fair to pin all her woes on the performers. The Tanabata story was a popular one after all. Kagome sighed as she shifted in her seat to pull her legs up and under her body. The book she'd chosen was about medicinal herbs because she was curious about useful treatments. She'd hoped the interest would be enough to pull her away from thinking about the play, but it wasn't working. Maybe she just needed to give herself more time to process everything. 'Or maybe you need to do the opposite and stop thinking about anything!' Kagome chided herself. She really did need to stop letting her emotions control her. 'You're supposed to be hiding out here, remember?!'
It was the sound of approaching footsteps that caused Kagome to stop reading and look up from her book. Was it a guard? Nope, just Inuyasha.
“Oh, good, you’re here,” Inuyasha dropped onto the couch next to her. “I didn’t know who else to turn to.”
“Inuyasha? What’s wrong?” She put the book down when she saw the anger brimming in his eyes. “Did something happen?”
The prince let out an annoyed sigh. “I just had a huge fight with my dad.”
“A fight? Over what?”
“You.”
“Me?!” Her eyes widened. “Did I do something wrong?!”
“No, no, not you,” he grabbed her hands. “It’s all me. I… I-I told him— I told him that I refuse to honor the agreement to marry someone else. He wouldn’t even tell me who she is, so how would I ever be okay with it? I just can’t! Not when I’m already in love…”
Kagome swallowed back hard. “You are?”
His grip tightened, gaze turned serious and focused. “I told him I was in love with you. Kagome I can’t deny that anymore no matter how much I tried.”
“But you know we can’t—”
“I know, I know, it’s crazy, but after that story…” Inuyasha let go of her hands for a moment to gesticulate. “I just couldn’t stop thinking about it! I told him I’d rather stay single for the rest of my life if it meant still being around you… even if that’s all I get to have. I just want to stay in your life in any way I can.”
Kagome didn’t know what to say. With all her heart she wished it could work, but knowing she too was living a lie that she couldn’t reveal coupled with such a major potential for scandal… her voice lowered in hesitation. “Inu this is crazy…”
“Do you love me?” Is all Inuyasha blurted out.
“Yes—” she spoke from the heart, “but—”
Inuyasha took her hands again and brought them to his chest. “Then that’s enough for me.”
Despite his efforts to reassure her, Kagome couldn't be happy about this declaration of love. She'd heard some of the whispers starting around the castle about their forbidden relationship. What if someone started to talk? What if someone started to question her true origins? All it would take is someone mentioning to the wrong person the woman in the castle who'd stolen the prince’s attention. And what about the royal family? How will they treat her now? Will they see her as a jezebel? A woman who’d infiltrated their life to cause problems?? Kagome shook her head. “But there must be consequences!” She knew all too well as a hypocrite, the rippling damages that could occur from breaking such trusts. “You don’t just break an agreement like that without consequences.”
“Nothing’s gonna happen to you, I give you, my word. As for me, I can handle my dad. He was angry but believes he can make it work, probably honor the rest of the deal just minus the marriage part.”
“Which was?”
“In exchange for the marriage, we guaranteed to protect that kingdom. They’re smaller than us, so they really have no choice but to take the amended deal because it at least assures them of safety.”
Kagome was so torn in that moment about what to do. She couldn't tell him the truth yet, not because she didn't trust him, but because she didn't want to burden him with it. If anyone were to find out who she really was, they might notify her parents and her life at the palace would truly be over with. It was selfish, but could anyone blame her? This was the first time in her life she's experienced freedom and happiness. Ugh, why’d she have to fall in love with Inuyasha? Why’d Inuyasha have to fall in love with her? Is fate always so cruel? First the idea of an arranged marriage, but now to be stuck in a forbidden one. Was she cursed? Were they both cursed?
“Y-You’re sure your father won’t hold this against me? Because I-It wasn’t planned. I never intended for any of this to happen.” The tears had begun to fall down Kagome’s cheeks at the enormous weight levied onto her shoulders.
“Neither had I,” Inuyasha wiped at the tears and cradled her cheek. “Neither of us could have controlled what our hearts desired.”
“But I’m scared Inu…”
“I swear on my life nothing will happen to you and if it comes to it, we’ll run away, far away and hide just me and you.” He leaned their foreheads together. “I don’t care about my title. I just want to be with you.”
“I wanna be with you too,” Kagome breathed out.
“Then have faith in our destiny.” Inuyasha tilted Kagome’s face up and swept his lips over hers, earning a shivering sigh. He then centered and placed pressure into a deeper kiss.
Kagome melted into the kiss as her fingers moved up and gripped to his shirt. Let her fears be damned in that moment, for if this earned her banishment in the end, just tasting his lips this once… she could die happy knowing she’d felt love. It was more than she ever thought she’d achieve in this gilded life.
“I’ll try,” she whispered an honest answer. “In you… I’ll believe…”

I’m big sad this week can I please get some kakairu fic or HC I don’t care I just wanna talk haha but it’s kakashi falling in love with iruka because he’s just so thoughtful to kakashi specifically. Say, kakashi is always late because he’s got to eat and sleep and water his plant and feed the strays behind his complex and he’s (chakra) exhausted the works.
No one ever notices (besides gai ofc but they’ve been friends forever) but then he meets and becomes friends with iruka. And iruka notices. Iruka will take a subpar report from kakashi after hard missions and just give him a Pat on the shoulder and a smile, he will drop by with extra bentos to keep in the fridge and take off without a second thought since he was dropping off bentos (that he bought we know that man can’t cook) at narutos anyway. Gets kakashi a water globe for his plant so he doesn’t have to worry about him on missions.
But the thing that really does it for kakashi the holy shit I might love this man moment is when kakashi is dragging himself home after a super hard mission that went over by weeks and he goes to feed the strays behind the complex and finds iruka feeding them hunched over in this dirty dark alley feeding dogs what looks like his dinner for the night shift and.. is that the new icha icha from the release he missed in his hands?? Iruka got it for him since he was gone and knew how much kakashi likes them and that’s it kakashi is in love now thank you
//here’s to a hopefully more enjoyable, relaxed week coming up :)
AO3
It wasn’t unheard of for a mission to go on longer than it had been planned. Things happened, changes had to be made to the attack plan, sometimes the team. There were a variety of reason’s for a missions to take an extra few hours, or a day or two more.
But a week?
Only the worst missions went overtime by a week.
The one’s where the information was poor, or sometimes even completely wrong. Where the mission lead had to stop and fix up the plan in one or two areas, but had to start completely from scratch.
And just his luck, he had been the mission lead. The poor bastard who had to rethink the mission from scratch when it turned out that they had been lied to by the person who had come to them wanting ‘help’.
What they really wanted, apparently, was a chance to present some unsuspecting leaf shinobi to Some IWA shinobi in waiting.
Luckily for them, Kakashi was quick to realize that things were out of place and even quicker to come up with a new plan. One that only needed him and Gai, and an extra week of waiting time.
It worked in the end. Of course it did.
After waiting for the enemy to finally let their guards down, Kakashi and Gai were able to make their way into the camp they had made for themselves and get the scroll they had been sent for. One they had thought was just used as a trick to get them there, but found out through some careful spying on Kakashi’s part did actually exist.
Now they were home.
Aching and tired, but home.
Seeing Gai off, Kakashi headed straight for the little ally behind the apartments he lived in. Nothing called out to him quite like a nice shower, and a long nap in bed, but he had to check up on the strays before then.
Poor things hadn’t seen him all week, and he’s certain there’s no one else who feeds them. Most of the other jonin simply pick a favorite and take them into their apartment, or leave food out for them on the window ledge.
Kakashi took care of the rest of them.
“Here we go,” hearing a familiar voice, Kakashi stopped just before the entrance into the alleyway, unsure why exactly his heart was beating so fast now. “Eat up. You’ll get to see your favorite tomorrow. He just had a long mission and he needs some rest. But I have no doubt he’ll be here to see you as soon as he can.”
Peering around the side of the wall, Kakashi felt a warmth spreading in his chest when he saw Iruka. Sweet, kind Iruka. Kneeling down and pouring dry food into the bowls Kakashi had set out months ago.
"He does a lot for this village, you know," Iruka continued, and Kakashi couldn't help but linger and listen. "One of Konoha's top Jonin, so he's always going on missions to protect the village, gather information, help people out. There's a lot for him to do."
Leaning his shoulder against the wall, Kakashi smiled to himself.
For a few months now Iruka had been helping him out. Noticing little things about him and providing information or objects to make his life just a little bit easier.
A water bulb for Mr. Ukki so he didn't have to worry about going on missions and killing his only plant.
Bento boxes that he promised he bought from a store when he noticed Kakashi hadn't eaten that day. Not because he couldn't cook for himself, but because sometimes life just got too busy. There was soo much to do that often he'd find himself forgetting to feed himself while he tried to finish mission reports, or plan out training exercises for his students.
Kakashi hadn't thought about it much then. Simply thanking Iruka and moving on with his life.
But now, standing here listening to Iruka gush about him to the strays while he fed them in Kakashi's absence. Kakashi can't help but feel something deep inside of his chest.
Something he can't quite explain. It's warm and fuzzy, and it makes his heart skip a beat whenever Iruka continues talking, but he doesn't have a word for it. It's not something he has ever felt before.
"So be nice to him, hmmm?" Iruka continued, chuckling when one of the dogs barked. "I know he has to be gone a lot, but I'll take care of you when he's out of the village. I promise."
Poking his head around the corner, Kakashi chuckled when the dogs saw him and immidiatly started to bark, forgoing their food to run over to him instead for pets.
"K-kakashi," Iruka stood up, clearly caught off guard by Kakashi's sudden appearance. "I...how long were you standing there?"
"Mmmm, long enough I think," Kneeling down, he started to pet each of the dogs while keeping his eyes on Iruka. "I didn't know you made a habit of looking after Jonin's life responsibilities while they were gone, Iruka-sensei."
"I-" It was sort of cute seeing Iruka all flustered. with wide bright eyes and fingers that wouldn't stop pulling at his uniform sleeve. "I don't usually..."
"Well, I need some rest," Giving the dogs one more head pat he stood up and smiled. A warm, soft smile hidden under his mask. "But, since you've done so much for me I should pay you back."
"Oh, no you don't have to," Iruka waved his hands in front of himself franticly. "I was just- i wanted to make sure-"
"How about dinner?" Kakashi had a calm look on his face, and his voice was as bored sounding as ever. To an untrained eye, he likely looked like he was simply inviting a friend to go out.
Internally, though, he was freaking out.
His heart was hammering in his chest, going so fast that it actually sort of hurt. His stomach was a mess of knots and butterfly's, and his brain was going five hundred miles a minute. Thinking up all the ways Iruka could reject him, and screaming at himself for even making the offer like a love sick idiot.
Love.
That was the word he had been looking for earlier.
Minato-sensei had described the feeling to him years ago. When he was younger and confused about the way Obito acted around Rin, or why Rin was always trying to get close to him.
He was in love, and out of everyone his heart could have chosen, it went with Umino Iruka.
"That sounds nice, actually," Iruka whispered, glancing down at the ground while running a hand awkwardly through his hair. "Umm, where would you like to..."
"I'll make it," he smiled, now determined to make the best first impression. "My apartment, tomorrow evening. And don't worry about the dogs, i'll make sure to feed them before dinner."
He doesn't wait for a response. Disappearing into a whirlwind of dust he make's his escape. Desperate to get back to his apartment and collapse onto his bed and scream into his pillow like a twelve year old whos crush just called them 'cute'.

It’s Not a Date (Or Is It?)
“Why would I, of all people, ask the poor girl out on her birthday, of all days,” he said. “That sounds like the worst birthday gift ever.”

Although they had been friends since they were in diapers, when it came to Rin’s birthday, Len always had no clue what to give her.
You see, the girl was difficult. She didn’t really like her birthday—she refused to celebrate it, even. She went so far as to threaten to blackmail him (with childhood photos of him half-naked, suction cups on his nipples; it was better not to ask, for childhood had been a strange time) if he so much as ever planned a surprise party behind her back.
Whenever he’d try asking about what she’d want for her birthday, she’d scoff and roll her eyes and tell him something stupid like, “A will to live.” Yes, Rin, we all want a will to live, he’d think. But alas I need something a little more obtainable.
And, well, it wasn’t like Len could just not give her a gift—he had to. It was obligatory. While Rin’s blood curdled at the mention of her own birthday, whenever it came to anyone else’s, she would go ham. The previous birthday, she’d knitted Len a sweater. A whole, mcfucking sweater. And you can bet this simp wore it so much the armpits started permanently smelling like the inside of a men’s locker room.
So he had to give her something back as equally as awesome. It was just an unwritten rule in his book of life. It was Len law.
Despite spending a good portion of the year listening out for any things she could want, this year around was particularly tough. Rin had mentioned, in the off-occasion, wanting several things; a television (he couldn’t afford that even if he wanted to), a boyfriend (well… maybe? Ahem. Just kidding), and a trip to the ISS (h… how).
For obvious reasons, such gifts were unobtainable. Which came to the dilemma he experienced almost every year: what in the ever loving fuck should he give to Rin this year?
It hit one week before her birthday when he started to grow desperate. So desperate, in fact, he consulted two of Rin’s closest female friends—Gumi and Miku, who seemed to be (sometimes, mostly) on the same wavelength as her.
He didn’t like talking to them. They were painful to engage with. Insufferable. The human embodiment of gremlins. But desperate times called for desperate measures.
“A gift for Rin, huh,” Miku had echoed, when he’d planted himself at their desks one morning. Rin always came late, so, it wasn’t like he’d be caught in the act or anything anyway.
Len nodded.
Gumi and Miku exchanged looks.
“How about you ask her out,” Miku suggested, a deadpan expression. Gumi, however, couldn’t do much to hide her amusement; bursting into a fit of giggles behind her hand.
He rolled his eyes. “A serious gift, Miku.”
“What?” She looked innocent. “It is serious.”
Gumi continued to snort-laugh off to the side.
“Well, what are you two giving her for her birthday?” he asked, deciding it wasn’t worth the effort arguing.
Miku tossed a pigtail behind one shoulder. “We’re going to have a sleepover, where we will forcibly sing happy birthday to her and make her eat a cake.”
Len frowned. “That sounds… nice. I guess.”
“You can’t steal our idea.” She jabbed a finger at his chest. “Like I said, just ask her out.”
“Why would I, of all people, ask the poor girl out on her birthday, of all days,” he said. “That sounds like the worst birthday gift ever.”
It was their turn to roll their eyes. “Maybe to you, banana brain,” Gumi said. “It’s pathetic that you’ve been friends with her the longest out of us three, and you still don’t know what gift to give her on her birthday. Talk about dumbass energy.” Then they high-fived each other.
Len bristled, his pride taking a hefty blow. “And? At least I’m trying to give her something she wants,” he reasoned, voice squeaking.
“If you used any of that big, big brain in that big, big head of yours, you would know what she wants,” Miku shot back, waggling a finger at his forehead. “Like I said: kissy kissy. Go on a date with me. Let’s get married or something and live happily ever after.”
But he was unconvinced. Rin? Living happily ever after? That girl couldn’t sit through any romance movie for the life of her.
He decided this conversation was not worth having. He would figure this out on his own.
Maybe. Hopefully. Probably.
.
“A gift for your girlfriend,” Kaito mused aloud, looking distant as he hung over the fence separating him and Len. Kaito was his neighbour; an older, more experienced neighbour (he was a university student and proudly boasted about his experience having dated two girls and one guy).
It was T-minus three days until Rin’s birthday, and Len was still running in circles trying to figure out what to give her. It had come to asking his neighbour. Who, in all the times they’d interacted, always smelt like bong water and cigarettes.
Len winced. “She’s not my girlfriend,” he said—or, well, insisted.
Kaito ignored him. “How about a date,” he suggested. “Like, a really sweet date. You take her somewhere she likes to go and treat her. It doesn’t have to be grand or extravagant, or anything.”
Huh. Huh. The guy had a point. Not the date part, but the taking-her-out-and-paying-for-her part. It didn’t seem too bad of an idea, actually.
All of a sudden, Len had a great idea for what to do on Rin’s birthday. He quickly thanked Kaito for his advice and ran off, annoyed he hadn’t thought of it in the first place, but nevertheless plotting a master plan of where he could take her on her birthday.
First, of course, he had to check whether she was available that day.
Rin r u busy on Sunday, he texted her on LINE.
She replied two minutes later with, I’m at Miku’s in the morning, but I’m free in the afternoon. Why?
Okay, good. He didn’t need to rethink schedules or anything. Do u want to hang out? We could go 2 karaoke or smth.
Sure. What time?
Len paused to think, before responding, How abt one?
Rin’s reply came back almost immediately. Sounds good.
He was relieved. Okay. So. Now he just had to figure out what to do to make the whole thing, well, special. It was her birthday. Sure, going to karaoke was good and fun and all, but they already did that pretty regularly. It was part of the plan, but he needed something more.
How about a nice restaurant? Or was that too, well, suggestive? Besides, he only had so much of his allowance he could spare. Hmm.
He pulled up the internet browser on his phone and began typing into the search function, Places to go on dat— Wait—delete delete delete. Places to go for birthdays. There we go.
Some articles popped up. He clicked on the first one, scanned the list. Restaurant. Cinema. Musical theatre. Park. Museum. Observation tower.
Observation tower?
Len thought for a moment. He knew he was too broke to take her somewhere exciting like, uh, Skytree or whatever. But then there was the Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku. And that was free. And they had a cafe at the top.
Plus, it was sort of romantic—
But the point of it was, it was for her birthday. Not a date. And it was something nice and unique, and he could totally imagine them sitting in the cafe watching the sunset over Tokyo's skyline.
So, that was decided. Karaoke. Observation tower. Maybe dinner if Rin was keen on getting something like Gusto because he didn't have the bank account for it. Man, Kaito was sort of a genius, in his own strange, Kaito way.
He reminded himself to buy the guy an ice cream sometime as a thank you gift.
.
Sunday finally came, and Len arranged to meet Rin out front of their usual go-to karaoke box. She was already there waiting when he arrived—which was strange, given the girl's notoriety for being fashionably late in most situations—looking bored and scrolling through her phone. She was dressed sort of cute; a mustard yellow overall dress and white collar shirt underneath, hair tied back by her signature white bow.
He swept her up into an embrace, which she wriggled out of with a groan. "Happy birthday!"
Her cheeks flushed red and she rolled her eyes. "Shut up."
Len took no offence, steering her into the lobby of Joysound. "How was your sleepover with Gumi and Miku?" he asked.
Rin looked surprised. "You knew about that?"
"Oh. Yeah. I talked to them last week about it."
She blinked. "Huh." She seemed to brush it off as something minor, answering his question with a shrug of her shoulders. "You know. It's Miku and Gumi. We played monopoly before Miku got bored, and then they forced me to play truth or dare."
"Truth or dare, huh." Len had heard multiple horror stories about her previous experiences with the girls playing truth or dare. He grinned, glancing over at her. “So what did you do?”
“Dare, of course,” Rin said. She held up her wrist, showing an elaborate illustration of an erected penis. “What do you think?”
His eyebrows shot up. “That’s creative.”
She snickered. "Yeah. I think they were getting a bit frustrated with me. I kept saying pass on their dares, so the punishment was to drink a whole bottle of ketchup."
Len wondered what possible thing they were trying to get her to do that she would willingly drink ketchup over doing. "Did you?"
"Yeah. And then I threw up all over Miku's carpet, so they called it a night."
The way she said it so nonchalantly caught him off guard as they stepped up to the counter. He fumbled with his wallet, pulling out a membership card and scrambling to fill out the slip of paper the front counter clerk handed to him.
Rin was reading his writing over his shoulder. “Four hours? Really? I thought we would be going for like, eight hours.”
He handed the paper back to the staff and shot her his best, reassuring grin. "I've got other stuff planned after this, you know."
She quirked an eyebrow. "Other stuff?" she echoed. "Better not be a surprise party, or I will post those pictures of you all over—"
"It's not a surprise party. It's just you and I. Jeez."
The staff told him how much they owed, and he dished out the money before Rin could even get to her own purse.
She frowned. "Hey. Tell me how much it was when we get to the room so I can pay you back."
"No," he said smoothly, pocketing the change and taking the receipt. "Today, it's on me."
Rin opened her mouth to argue as they started off down the corridor towards their allocated room number. "Are you sure? Four hours isn't cheap—"
"It's fine," he insisted. "It's your birthday. Think of it as part of the gift."
She wasn't impressed, but she knew better not to argue.
The room they were given wasn't huge—which was fine, not that they needed the space—so they sat next to each other bumping shoulders on the far side of the room, facing the television. Rin already had the remote in hand within moments of sitting down, queuing a ton of songs they usually defaulted to singing every time they went to karaoke.
When they cleared out what she had queued, she reached for the menu on the table in front of them and started looking through it. “I’m hungry. Can we get something?”
Len was trying to remember how much he had left in his wallet in terms of cash. "Uh. Sure."
She pointed at a picture of a plate of takoyaki. "Want to share some?"
They were only 600 yen. Not too bad.
He nodded, before noticing a lack of drinks on their table, and the dry, scratchy feeling in his throat. He quickly checked the receipt they were given. "Shoot. I got us the drink bar. Want me to grab you something?"
"Oh." Rin thought for a moment, as if the decision was really tough, although the selection at the drink bar almost never changed. "Just get me some minute maid. The usual."
Right. Orange soda. The usual. As he got up from his seat, she reached over to unhook the phone from the wall.
"I'll order the food," she told him before he left.
Len poured himself a glass of calpis, grabbed Rin's soda. While waiting for the drink machine to finish, he acknowledged that he was feeling sort of nervous. His heart was beating hard against his ribcage, palms clammy. Why though? It wasn't like this was any different from any other karaoke venture him and Rin went on.
Well, besides the plans he had for the evening, but it was because of her birthday. Nothing else. No sinister thoughts here.
When he got back to the room, Rin had already queued another block of songs and was in the middle of singing something. He hadn’t even the chance to queue anything he wanted.
God, she was such a remote hog, and he thought to tell her off, but reminded himself it was her birthday. Let her be the evil remote hog that she was for the day.
The food came when they were in the middle of a duet. Len almost missed his part of the song, because she hadn’t just ordered takoyaki, but also a plate of fries and a strawberry parfait. His eyes popped out of his head as the employee set down the food on the table.
Rin, he thought. Why are you like this. I love you, but why are you like this.
“Are you going to eat all of that?” he asked when the song finished.
She gave him a look. “No? We’re sharing.”
Len mumbled something along the lines of okay yeah whatever but I didn’t ask for this much food. He reached for a soggy fry, mourning his allowance.
.
Karaoke went by fast. In retrospect, it was probably better to have only spent four hours there, because his throat was raw by the third hour. Rin—the absolute madman—was still going somewhat strong, although her voice was a tad raspy by the end.
After Len paid for the food, they left and headed for the station nearby. On the way there, Rin asked, "So, where to next?"
"Shinjuku." He left it brief.
She screwed up her face. "Shinjuku? Ew. Why are we going there?"
"Because that's where I planned for us to go?" He gave her a hurt look, and she returned it, playful.
Admittedly, Len was a little worried, considering Rin had consumed almost all of the food they were supposed to share (not to forget that she also put another dint in his wallet). He was planning on them having cake or something at the cafe at the top of the north tower, because it was her birthday, but she probably wouldn't even be hungry.
The trains were starting to get a little busy—Sunday afternoon, everyone was going home—so they had to stand a little close together. Rin parked herself in the corner between the seats and the door, and Len right beside her, trying to avoid touching the other people around them but leaving enough space for Jesus between each other.
Normally Len wouldn't find himself so worked up over this situation, but today, his brain was like, stupid teenage boy mode or something because being so close to her was really bothering him. She seemed unaware of that, though, recounting some of the misadventures she'd had with Miku and Gumi the night before.
He listened, but didn't really listen, hyper aware of their hands and arms grazing with every jolt of the train, and eyes betraying him every few minutes by slipping down to her lips. Why, oh why, was he sexualising his best friend like this? On her birthday? Really, Len?
Eventually, they reached their destination station, and headed towards the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building.
Rin tried nagging him again about where they were going.
"You'll see in, like, five minutes," he told her.
She sulked. “Why is it some big secret?” she complained. “I hate secrets.”
“It’s not a secret. I just like seeing you suffer.”
“Len. Choke.”
He grinned as they turned a corner in the underground walkway leading them away from the station, reaching a set of long, long escalators. Rin peered up at the sign above, trying to catch a glimpse of what possible location they were heading to.
"Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building?" she read. "What's so special about that?"
Len feigned nonchalance, tossing a shoulder. "Oh, you know," he said. "There are observation decks at the top of each tower, and I heard it looks really nice at sunset, so I was just thinking of going there with you."
"Huh." Her expression went blank. "That's nice."
It was a short walk amongst the towering buildings of Shinjuku. This part of the city wasn't as busy or touristy; clean and pristine with wide, empty footpaths. A clear, blue sky peeked through the skyscrapers overhead. It was only five or so, so they still had a bit of time before sundown. Luckily, the weather and visibility were good that day, much to his relief.
The wait in line to reach the observation level was long, but admittedly, worth it. Rin seemed happy once they reached the top, running over to the closest window and pulling out her phone to snap pictures of the skyline. She ushered him over, made him squint into the distance to look for the ocean, and they spent a good half hour trying to spot landmarks amongst the sea of buildings below.
After walking the perimeter of the building, they settled down in the seats of the cafe. “Do you want anything?” Len asked.
Rin hummed, eyes skimming over the menu. “I think I’ll just get tea.”
He was a little disappointed she wasn’t interested in any of the sweets on display (the banana cake looked really good, okay), but decided in retrospect, he would’ve been terrified if that girl could fit anymore in after eating takoyaki, fries and almost all of the strawberry parfait.
After he came back with their drinks, they settled into a comfortable silence. Rin was responding to messages on her phone, and he was just happy to watch as her expression shifted with every thought.
Eventually, she set down her phone and stared down at the table between them. “So,” she began, in a tone that meant business.
He sat up in his chair, smiled at her, but it was nervous, because she—all of a sudden—seemed very serious. And serious Rin was not a common occurrence.
Her fingers curled into fists on her thighs, and her gaze flitted everywhere in the room but his face. “Is this, um, a date?”
At first, Len didn’t know how to respond.
His mouth hung open, before he became aware of his expression, snapping it shut. Then he cleared his throat. “Um.” To be honest, he didn’t know. Was it a date? Well, maybe he lowkey wanted it to be but did Rin want it to be? By the looks of it, she didn’t seem very… impressed by the idea. “It’s, uh… whatever you want it to be, Rin.”
She blinked, eyes falling on him, then dropping back down to her knees. “Oh.”
Was that the right answer? Had he just made her uncomfortable? Had he just ruined her entire birthday?
He was too afraid to ask.
They sat in awkward silence, until the sky outside started to turn various shades of orange, and people began swarming the windows to watch the sunset.
Rin was kind of peering over, as if torn between getting up from the chair or staying seated.
“You want to go look?” Len asked, giving her a smile to try and ease the uncomfortable air between them.
She hesitated, the corners of her lips twitching. “I won’t even be able to see over everyone.”
He, with the intelligence of a mitochondria, said, “Well, I can just hold you up.”
Rin snorted. “Are you sure you can do that?”
He blew a raspberry, faking confidence. “Uh, yeah, sure I can.”
“Okay then, Mr Buff Arms. Prove it to me.”
She got up from her seat with a shit-eating grin, and he scrambled after her, crossing the floor in direction of one of the busiest windows. The reason why the crowds were gathering at that particular spot was not just because of the sunset, but because of the fact that you could see a beautifully clear silhouette of Mt Fuji in the distance.
He hadn’t even realised that; it was hiding behind the clouds before.
Len gestured for her to climb onto his back.
“Are you sure?” Rin looked uncertain, eyeing him like a venomous snake. “I’m like, almost the same weight as you, Len.”
“So?” he bluffed.
She stood there staring, before giving in with the roll of her eyes. “Don’t cry if I break something.”
Then she wrapped her arms around his neck, hiking one leg up his side, and he hooked his arms under her thighs to hoist her up. She was right. She was heavy. But he was willing to be crushed under the weight of her for her to have a nice birthday.
“Hold on to me,” she ordered, arms unlatching from his neck. “I want to take some pictures.”
Len gave a grunt as a reply. It was the best he could do.
After a while (probably like, two minutes or so), he felt like he was going to burst a blood vessel somewhere in his body, so he wheezed out, “Rin. Are you done? I gotta let you down now.”
“Oh, yeah. You can let me down.”
He released his grip on her legs and she dropped back down into standing position behind him. Grabbing his lower back in pain, he turned to her looking like a crippled old man.
Rin laughed in his face. “Feeling sorry for yourself now, huh? I told you.”
He waved his hand, straightening up with a groan. “Yeah, yeah. Did you get any nice pictures?”
“Hmm. Let’s see.” She looked at her phone, then moved in close to show him her screen. “They’re not too bad, besides the dozens of heads in the foreground.”
It was strange, oddly disproportionate, the way Mt Fuji loomed over the busy streets of Tokyo. The sky was a beautiful array of golds and oranges and yellows; a perfect sunset for a perfect birthday.
“They’re nice,” he said. He glanced up from her phone to look at her, becoming aware of their distance, and aware of her ogling up at him. The golden light coming through the windows lit up her face, brought out the highlights of her hair, accentuated the freckles on her cheeks.
Wow, he thought, his breath getting caught in his throat. He was utterly in love with her.
Much to his surprise, Rin’s face seemed to be moving closer. And so was he, his body unconsciously moving forward, down to her like drawn to a magnet.
Her eyes fluttered closed, head tilting.
Their lips were about an inch away from touching when a child right beside them started screaming. Immediately, Len was drawn out of his strange daze, jumping away from Rin. She seemed to do the same thing, putting at least a metre space between them.
Her face was bright red, and she forced her fingers back through her hair with a nervous laugh. “You know, we should get going before everyone else gets the same idea,” she said, acting as if nothing ever happened.
Len blinked, unsure if he’d just imagined what happened thirty seconds prior, or if he was really just about to kiss his best friend in front of thirty or so strangers. He decided not to think about it. “Right. That’s a good idea.”
So they headed for the elevators and made a quick escape before the crowds followed. His head was still spinning as they walked down the footpath back towards the entrance to the underground walkway. The sky was now fading to a deep blue; bare remnants of the day clinging in streaks of orange above their heads.
Rin tugged on his sleeve, pointing a finger at something across the intersection they stood. “Hey. I want to check that out.”
It was a park—Shinjuku Chuo Park, to be exact. He’d seen it on the map when researching where to go with her, didn’t think much of it. There was a waterfall display and some flowerbeds, people lurking about. There were winding paths and a handful of trees lining them, a maze within the middle of the city.
He shrugged his shoulders.
It wasn’t like he was in a hurry or anything. They had time, still, to go for dinner, if Rin was keen on it. She seemed awfully pensive compared to before, though, as they crossed the road and made their way over to the park.
He wondered if he’d said or done something wrong. Or… if what had happened between them with the whole phone-and-faces-getting-close-like-they-were-going-to-kiss-or-something had like, offended her.
They strolled down the winding path of the park in silence. There was a playground, some monuments, and finally, a shrine.
Rin slowed to a stop, staring at the shrine. He halted beside her.
“You want to pray?” Len asked.
She was quiet, before shaking her head. “No. It’s alright.” She glanced up at him, a small smile. “I was thinking, let’s go sit down somewhere.”
He obeyed, and they set off again, finding a lone seat along the footpath nearby. There were still a few people out and about, but it was relatively quiet. It had long turned to night, the cityscape surrounding them lighting up like tetris blocks.
Their shoulders bumped, and Rin eased herself against him, before bringing her head down to rest on his shoulder.
His heart hummed to life in his chest, but he tried to ignore it.
“This is really nice,” she said, her voice soft. “This was a really nice day, Len.”
After a moment of hesitation, he lowered his cheek against the top of her hair, taking in the familiar scent of her favourite shampoo. A hint of something floral, a hint of something citrus—and a hit of something Rin.
He hummed. “I’m glad.”
Rin was silent for a passing moment, before she spoke again. “Do you know what would make it even better?”
Len’s stomach growled. “Gusto?” he half-joked.
“No.” She pulled her head away to look at him, and the cool night air hit his cheek like a slap to the face. He stared back down at her, captured by her gaze.
It was happening again. The whole moving-in-close thing, that was. Her face was getting bigger, and he could feel her hot breath tickling the tip of his nose. His head ducked down to close the gap between them, catching her wet mouth with his own so suddenly that he pulled away, shocked at the boldness of his actions.
Rin didn’t seem to care, though. Her hand went up to the back of his head and pulled him back down to her lips. It was sloppy, kind of gross, but they didn’t care. It was their first time. It wasn’t supposed to be perfect.
She kept him in place, balling up the fabric of his t-shirt with her fists. He allowed himself to melt into the kiss, hands trailing down to hold her by the waist. He wasn’t expecting the day to really end with them sitting in the middle of a park in Shinjuku making out, but he wasn’t mad by the outcome, either.
When they pulled away to breathe, Rin smiled something nervous, her lips glistening under the glow of the city lights. Her hands unravelled themselves from his shirt.
“Better,” she said.
Len was stunned silent, just stared at her. He wasn’t sure if what happened had just happened. So he went back in for another kiss; this time a little bit more tender, less wet.
“So Gumi and Miku were right,” he thought aloud against her mouth.
Rin pulled back a bit to give him this horrified look. “What did they tell you.” It wasn’t even posed as a question. She’d already made the assumption they’d told him something awful.
He chuckled nervously. “Well, uh, I tried asking their opinion what to do for your birthday…”
She raised an eyebrow. “And?”
“They straight up told me to ask you out.”
Her eyes narrowed into slits. “Those bitches.”
His lips curled. “Well, I mean. It helped. Somewhat.”
“Yeah.” She frowned, reaching up to curl a strand of her hair around a finger. “I can’t believe they just—so blatantly did that, though. Even after I begged them not to say anything.”
She begged them? Wow. “I thought they were joking up until five minutes ago, Rin. You know I don’t take anything they say seriously.”
Rin sighed. “Yeah, but—” She paused, thinking, before tossing her shoulders. “Well, it doesn’t matter anymore anyway. I just want to know, Len— is this a date?”
Len pressed his forehead against hers. Gazed into her eyes. They were a dark blue; alluring, always drawing him in, keeping him in orbit around her like a planet to its star. He admitted, “Not my original intention, no, but I think the simp in me was projecting a bit much that it ended up being one anyway.”
She cracked a grin. “Simp, huh,” she said. She lifted a hand to his jaw, trailed her fingers along it until her palm was resting on the back of his head. He wanted to shudder into her touch. “Well, kiss me more. I’m not done making the most of my birthday privileges yet.”
He opened his mouth. “I can kiss you like this every day if you wan—”
She silenced him with her lips, closing the space between them once again.
.
[epilogue]
The following weekend, Len knocked on Kaito’s door with a week’s worth of his favourite lemonade-flavoured popsicles in one hand.
Kaito’s eyebrows shot up into the ceiling upon spotting the bag of goodies. “What’s this?” he asked.
“A thank you gift,” Len said, handing it over.
“Huh.” Kaito took them, a confused expression on his face. “What for?”
“Your idea about the date? It worked. Rin and I are a thing now.”
A lengthy silence followed.
“You mean… you two weren’t dating before?”

Matsuda would approach you first with his usually friendly additude, maybe just a slight bit nervous
When you two talked and hit it off though, he felt more comfortable
He enjoyed talking with you when you were being dramatic and random, he found it pretty cute and funny
Sometimes your sarcasm would fly over his head and you’d have to explain it to him
When you were being stubborn, he would try to convince you to do it his way
But then he’s just eventually give up and let you have your own way
Matsuda loves your dorky and nerdy side, finding everything you knew pretty interesting
And the way you got happy about it was pretty cute too
When you got clingy, he would provide you with all of the attention you needed happily

He didn’t want to make you angry
You two would watch movies together and Matsuda would try to look smart and guess the endings to movies
He was sad when he got most of them wrong though, and was pretty embarrassed about it too
He’d also listen to any music you sent him while he was working on paperwork and such
Matsuda brews a mean cup of coffee
He would also buy you sweets as an apology whenever he had came home late
Whenever he annoyed you he would apologize
He just loved being with you so much, he didn’t want to make you angry at all
He didn’t want to mess anything up to make you leave

Study Breaks
Author's note: No prompt sorry!! Because of the new announcement and the fact that I've been wanting to write MakoHaru again for a while uuuughhh pls forgive me
Summary: Haru wants Makoto's attention.
Word count: 1k
Two weeks, eighteen hours and fifteen minutes.
That was how long it had been since their last kiss and Haru's left eyebrow wouldn't stop twitching.
Obviously his boyfriend had his reasons: exam week. He had four exams coming up starting next week and had already started reviewing three weeks ago like the good student he was. Haru had been watching him stress in those said weeks, offering massages, movie nights and of course, swim dates, but Makoto would decline every time with an apologizing smile, because, "I'm studying, Haru. Sorry."
At some point Haru stopped asking him and decided to lay on his bed, texting Rin and the others, playing around with apps and —more often than not— watching Makoto write. This was the only way he'd get to hang out with him and since Makoto didn't particularly mind, this became their routine.
Haru would enter Makoto's dorm, completely wet from practice, take a shower, change (sometimes he'd borrow one of Makoto's shirts but whatever) and join him in his room. It was nice to spend time together in silence, but Haru really started missing his daily dose of affection.
Why was this a thing?
Usually he wasn't all about cuddling, hugging, smooching and all that mushy relationship stuff, but Makoto's hugs were nice and warm, his kisses were soft and tender, his mumbled words were sweet and caring and god, this was killing him. He had grown used to it because Makoto had been doing these things every single day for the past three years, and here he was, longing for some attention like a drug addict.
It was one of those days again; Haru watching Makoto study from the corner of his eye and about to go grab a snack from the kitchen when an idea popped into his head. From his position he could see a patch of the skin of Makoto's lower back as his shirt had ridden up just a tiny bit. It was enough to bare the dip and a glimpse of his boxers.
After blinking three times, Haru put his phone down on the pillow, slowly got up and walked over to the chair. As expected Makoto was so absorbed in his work that he hadn't noticed a thing, which kind of made Haru doubt his future actions, especially since he knew how jumpy the other could be.
Oh, well. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
He lifted one single finger and lightly ran it over the revealed skin.
The loudest shriek he had ever heard echoed through the small room and Makoto nearly leaped out of his chair if he hadn't grabbed the edge of his desk. He looked up at Haru over his shoulder, glasses balancing on the edge of his nose, cheeks flushed and mouth open in shock.
"H-Haru! You know I'm ticklish!"
"I know," Haru answered dully. "That's why I did it."
His response sounded like that of a sad puppy. "Is there something you want?"
"For you to take a break."
"Ah… I can't. I gotta finish this chapter. No, wait!"
Haru's patience had officially left the building so he firmly grabbed Makoto's waist with both hands and started squeezing. Since Makoto had pretty much grown immune to tickling due to his constant play fights with his brother and sister, Haru knew he had to catch him off guard if he wanted to get a reaction and go for his worst spots right away.
Poor Makoto was rocking back and forth in his chair, trying to grab Haru's wrists while letting out one bark of laughter after another, accompanied with several snorts and yips. Most of the time their tickle fights were one-sided in which Makoto would have the upper hand, so Haru knew the tables could turn any minute and he had to be fast and thorough.
And so, Haru wormed his hands under the sweater Makoto was wearing and started fluttering his fingertips all over his back. This had Makoto literally screaming with laughter and his entire body jumping in synch with every little movement Haru's fingers made, head thrown back against Haru's chest and lips stretched into one of the silliest grins he had ever seen.
Haru was absolutely enthralled by the crinkles around Makoto's eyes, the dimples in his cheeks and most of all his gorgeous laughter. The low and short chuckles he was used to were nothing compared to the cute high-pitched laughter Haru was hearing right now. Now that he thought about it, this was probably the first time Haru had ever gotten such a good look at his face during a tickle fight.
"Stohop! Haruuu!"
Poor Makoto was forever failing at getting a hold of Haru's hands as they kept switching places, which was one of the techniques Makoto himself had used on him not too long ago. He pleadingly looked up at Haru with tearful eyes and Haru, wearing a somewhat smug expression, stared back down and stopped tickling for a few seconds.
"Take a break." And give me attention.
"Ugh, can't I at least finish my sen— Eeh! Okay, okay! Break, I'll take a break!"
Unfortunately for him, Haru's hands had still been near his ribs and threateningly curled their fingers, brushing lightly over the flesh.
Satisfied, Haru pulled back and sat back down on the bed, keeping a very casual posture. It was really hard to bite back his victorious grin that he was wearing on the inside so he hoped that Makoto would come kiss him soon. He sat there quietly as Makoto obediently took off his glasses, closed his notebook and went to join him.
"Haru-chan."
Or not.
In less than two seconds he was struck down, fearfully watching as his merciless, thirsty for revenge ass of a boyfriend smiled down at him. His legs were trapped between the other's, hands pinned on either side of his head and Haru knew that the next few minutes of his life were gonna be very long and very bad.
Makoto was the kindest person he knew, except when it came to tickle fights in which he was the most ruthless and experienced on top of that.
"If you wanted my attention that badly, you could've just said so."
"Shut up."
In the end he did get his kisses and cuddles, though.
