childhood friends trope with Law please and thank you <3333 This particular trope always has me in shambles THE INTIMACY?? OR KNOWING EVERY VERSION OF THAT PERSON?? THE INSIDE JOKES? UGHHH And lets not forget the tenderness that comes with knowing that person for years and then some. Good shit. I just want this lonely brooding twink to have something constant in his from from his childhood to adulthood. The softness makes me wanna hurl i love it
YESSSSS i am also such a sucker for childhood friends trope bls I hope I can do this justice for you!!
[Heads up!: fluff, a touch of angst, dressrosa arc spoilers]
Tumblr media
He's lucky to not be dead.
You kneel on Law's other side, limp hand in both of yours. You've never seen him so still and quite frankly, you're terrified.
You know you should talk to him, try to keep him tethered here in the land of the living ㅡ but your mind is horribly blank given the chaos still unfolding around you.
Were you more sentimental, you'd beg. A thousand pinky promises and accompanying eyerolls, the smirk you so often threaten to punch him for when he's being insufferable ㅡ you'd take it over this.
"You must care for him quite a bit," Viola says, and you know she's trying to find something to say, to reassure you that Law is going to be just fine. "Are you..."
She trails off, tact where there often is none when it comes to you and Law. Because there's only so in sync you can be with someone else, share looks and understand what the other wants, seemingly operate as two halves of a whole before you get that question.
"No," you say, "we're just friends."
You're a lot more than just friends. That implies that there's been much of a time where you didn't know each other, and there really hasn't. Or that the two of you met through traditional means.
That isn't quite true either. You meet when the world is on fire for the both of you, in ways so similar and yet not.
Grief is such a funny thing when you find comfort in someone who's lost just as much as you. It's easier to tread those dark waves when someone else is threatening to sink with you ㅡ find solid ground in linked pinkies and eyerolls that follow, wide grins made hole-punched by missing baby teeth.
Of course there's also Shachi, Penguin and Bepo ㅡ they aren't far behind you in knowing Law, but it still stands that you've been a constant for longer.
"Of course I'm gonna come with you, idiot," you huff, eyes gleaming with laughter, "who else is gonna put up with you the way I do?"
You don't need to tell him you'd gladly follow him through the gates of hell. He knows, because he'd do the same for you.
There's only one person who knows you better than yourself, and his name is Trafalgar Law. You don't turn as he exits Kyros' house, eyes still skyward as he sinks onto the step beside you.
"The stars are pretty," you remark.
"You should be asleep." Law's eyes narrow when you mouth his words at the same time, and you scoff.
"Last time I checked, I wasn't the one who got shot, then almost lost an arm." Law meets your gaze, then looks away. "I'm not expecting you to apologize, because that isn't how we operate. But we made a promise, didn't we?"
"[Name]ㅡ"
"Law."
Law huffs. "We were kids."
"So? Hasn't stopped us before. As I recall, you've pulled this card on me several times." You hold your hand up, pinky extended. "Do it, Law."
Law stares at you, as thrilled about your tradition as he ever is, but links his pinky around yours. You grin, and he rolls his eyes. "You're a pain."
"Yeah," you answer, scooting closer to settle your head on his shoulder. "You're my pain, and I'm yours. That's how it works, right?"
Law is quiet, undoubtedly still coming to terms with the end of all of this and what it means for him ㅡ catharsis, a shackle unclamped from around his neck. Your hand finds his, fingers braced through the gaps of his, and you squeeze. You don't say a word, and you don't have to.
"Yeah," Law finally answers, lets his head rest against yours. "It is."

Marchil crumbs part 3
Part 1 - Part 2 - part 4 - part 5 - part 6 - part 7
Count of times canon reminds us that Chilchuck is very attracted to blondes: 3rd For context: this is the canon explanation for everyone's shapeshifters
Tumblr media
I can’t get over Chilchuck seeing Marcille like she has anime sparkles around her hair. How long have you stared at it. It’s like with the handsome Senshi where everyone is like "no this looks legit and absolutely like the real one" but her hair is shinier/prettier in the changeling than in the actual her
It drives me crazy that Marcille styles her hair every day for herself but little does she know she’s giving Chilchuck the show of his life, daily arranging his favorite thing aka blonde hair into different unique ornate hairstyles. Not that he cares about the details but ohh my god.
It makes sense that Chil would be the first one to notice her hair being all loose and messy then. He’s bothered by seeing her like this and wants her to tie it up again, and is even more unsetled and shocked when she says she doesn’t want to anymore. Though he also recovers from the shock quicker than Laios and takes charge of the situation. HE NOTICED. HE CARESSSS. IT BUGS HIM
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ That is what you call a character arc, of becoming attached to her hair lmfaoo(more like to Marcille and her habits). Or lying. "Man I sure wish she'd shave her hair I'd be less distracted on the job. Her golden majestic hair is so blinding with how shiny and sparkly it is ugh" /j
He chose to do a portrait teehee <3
Tumblr media
Chilchuck defending her honor even under mind control that makes them honest zombies
Tumblr media
Marcille out there defending his VIRTUE. It’s not just that he didn’t commit infidelity, he HAS A PURE HEART!! Honestly, assigned virtuous by a bicorn would so be the type of novel shenanigan that Marcille would hella romanticize. Which we do see her do lmao but <3
Tumblr media
They're so funny together in the golden kingdom chapters. First of all, sitting in front of each other at the table? Nice. Second, them being on the same wavelength all throughout lmao.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Them. Sharing the same numerous braincells, nodding together and making good use of it to make good decisions for the party. Valuing their noses
Tumblr media
Also can we apreciate that they like, can talk together. Communicate and debate. Even under tougher situations or more sensitive topics. Shit this would have been a good place to put the pages when Marcille was dungeon lord... But they're lined up for part 4 and part 3 is already full with pics... You guys have no idea how much Tetris I'm doing for these marchil crumbs posts
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wanna do a full compilation of every time he laughs at her but in the meantime have this small imperfect collection as well as this reddit comp. I swear she's the person/thing that makes him laugh and smile the most. Besides alcohol maybe
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The gang and Chilchuck both knowing her well and not at all lol. Gotta love Chilchuck's confidence about knowing her favorite meal, and him remembering the bare minimum that even Laios hasn't lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Marcille infesting his life to the point that, quote, "her delusions" are even part of his adventurer’s bible life timeline. The only picture in fact, in the streamlined canon reference to Chilchuck's life. "Hey is Marcille imagining herself as an halfling and Chil's wife with a mini Chilchuck baby Chilchuck's canon family appearances" canon: well no but actually yes /j
Tumblr media
Chil at her bedside <3
Tumblr media
Looking out for each other comp Yes thank you Chil captain obvious (he's trying his best and doesn't want to die let's not be mean c'mon). But like you know with that whole scene of the mad sorcerer attacking, for Chil it must have been the most terrifying thing ever. Ancient magic?? By an elf, targeting them with murderous intent?? With only an elf with also ancient magic to keep them safe attack by attack in the nick of time?? His biggest nightmare. I'm also reminded of when Chil talks with Leed about how "our magician held under the mad sorcerer's attack" all fond and 'I am so relieved I can trust her with my life' and Leed is like "That silly looking elf?!" and Chil was like "Yeah she's silly. At least she's strong tho." I'm getting carried away but yes this scene was relationship-defining in some ways
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But they keep each other in check too
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She was trying to make conversation and sharing her interests aw Chil come on
They're sooo domestic. "Chil are we there yet" "Marcille I swear to god if you ask me that one more time-". Also second time through the manga that Marcille squishes Chil against the ground/wall.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Get squeezed idiot
Tumblr media
Part 4 is here!

AHHHHHH! NEW CASE STUDY OF VANITAS CHAPTER! ITS BACK!
Oh yeah that's right we were in the midst of this Dham arc.
Well time for some all too relatable pain as Dante and Johann have to deal with being questioned and assaulted by THE LITERAL CHURCH
The chapter was really good. Like, it fucking hurt to read, but it was so good. Having dealt with mostly just Roland the human Golden Retriever and Olivier his dog-handler, and of course everyone's favorite traumatized murder baby Astolfo, it was different to see these Chaseurs as the cold and calculating killers they are. It wasn't over the top, it was simple "We are gonna hurt you and maybe kill you cause we can, whether you tell us what we want to know is irrelevant. No one here will stop us, and as long as no one knows, we won't get in any trouble for it."
Like, "Oh yeah, these guys ARE terrifying assholes, I forgot."
But the dialogue about the Dhams really hits this chapter.
"They're a real eyesore"
"They dress like they're advertising themselves as Dhams"
"Dhams should make like Dhams and live in the shadows, holding their breath"
And then Dante's internal thoughts, the fleeting hope that someone will come to help,
"Who exactly is someone"
"Who'd show up for us?"
"This world treats us like it can't even see us."
And he goes for the gun in his jacket... God it fucking hits. I say it every time, but so much dialogue in this manga can just have the names of things and people swapped out and you could believe it applies to so many marginalized groups. It feels more authentic than a lot of manga and stories I read. Don't know why. That's just probably my queer ass reading too much into these chapters as my own experiences, but fuck. I won't lie that I felt the connection with Dante keeping his gun in the same inner jacket pocket I keep my knife in my jacket. The same jacket with pins that people say I'm "advertising as queer" with. Johann fucking pleading for Dante not to draw his gun cause he knows his partner is gonna die if he tries. That these church goons are looking for an excuse to pin them as the aggressors so they can execute them.
And right as shit is about to happen, Domi shows up. DOMI!!!!!!!
Perfect way for Domi to start making up for her casual prejudice against Dante and Johann earlier. Domi sticks her neck out for them, against 2 FUCKING CHASSEUR PALADINS OF THE CHURCH! Like, yeah Domi is fucking awesome and powerful and an influential vampire noble, but 2 Paladins? They could kill her if things go wrong. But my girl is still here sticking her neck out for Dante and Johann. Congrats Domi, you have a chance to use your Vampire noble privilege to finally be the Dham ally you thought you were.
I love it. I love this manga so much.

also i wanna talk about Bakugou as Deku’s Damsel in Distress. first off i think he ABSOLUTELY IS a damsel in distress (literally me, watching any content: “DEKU GO GET YOUR WIFE!”), but i think that’s actually a significant part of his character and the development of his feelings. like shit, Deku (powerless, quirkless, no plan and one brain cell and the brain cell is Kacchan shaped) becomes a hero because the very first person he saves is Bakugou. BAKUGOU the DAMSEL IN DISTRESS IS HIS HERO ORIGIN STORY?! and then, right, we’ve established Bakugou has always been terrified of Deku’s “Heart,” his way of being a hero. and each time he tries to overcome Deku’s heart, along swaggers yet another Damsel situation. the most obvious being the Kamino arc (Your princess is in another castle deku!) literally, every time something batshit happens to Bakugou, Deku forces himself to grow some more to rise to that challenge (Or he just goes fucking feral in response but lets not split hairs). and of course, Bakugou hates it. like first off how dare THIS little punk be the one saving me and WHY is he getting stronger to do it and I keep falling farther and farther behind. Bakugou KNOWS he’s the damsel. he is absolutely aware. but he doesn’t want to be. he wants to be the image of victory for Deku just like before. he wants now to meet deku as EQUALS, and i think he’s afraid he can’t do that if he’s always waiting on Deku to rescue him. pretty significant though that he never doubts he WILL come rescue him.
anyway i’m not screaming you’re screaming.

The new limbus canto has me foaming at the mouth. Thoughts?
Just finished my 9 hour session. Project Moon writers are playing toys and expecting us to keep up and it's kind of awesome
- Using the arc mechanics of sanity for a nonstop boss gauntlet is CRAZY. 4 seperate bosses took me an hour each. I was learning Limbus mechanics I hadn't even realized existed fighting all these fucking bosses. Jesus does the first one ever set the tone
- VERGILIUUUUUUUS
- Disappointment Cathy wasn't a villain VS loving the humanity of the fact she's so self-centred that losing her position in someone's heart is terrifying to the point she can be gaslit by her own deranged self-centred compulsions
- Meursault
- So much stupid shit in this one I love it. Mirror Heathcliff looks like something that the power rangers should be fighting. Laughed every time he showed up
- THE FUCKING PUUUUUN THE FINAL SCENE PUN WHWIFJJFODK
- the mechanics of mirror world technology is so unnecessarily complex with so many interpretations that it doesn't really make sense however it ended up being the least asspull thing in this Canto
- Every asspull in this Canto was the coolest asspull. Childish glee
-I was wrong about the arc sin being pride it was Gloom. The Heartbreaking is so obviously about being driven to madness by torrential emotion. Holy fuck. I my be stupid
- I really wanted to see some more Dante characterization crumbs so I was blindsided by it being 150% Dante lore stuff instead. Like they were fretting about not being appreciated in the last Canto but now they're so professional. It reminds me of how calm they were in the whale too. Business gap moe or proximity to the branch....??
- Similarly I'm disappointed Ishmael wasn't utilized at all but I get it because their situations are more different than expected and it would distract from the story it ended with 😑 good writing choice
- Based on Verg skills it's possible his eyes aren't even his. Am I crazy for obsessing over Ryoshu's reaction to his statement about his Gladius
- What else. God I don't even know. That shit was crazy. This game loves to top itself

AU where john fails at being the Righteous Man and instead of going to dean they jump straight to adam, resurrecting him and planting some convenient info on demon deals to bring back loved ones so he'll go make a deal to bring back his mom. cue adam getting a bad deal, going to hell after a year, breaking the first seal to jump-start the apocalypse, and michael himself going to hell to rescue him.
the winchesters of course catch wind of all this happening from other demons letting slip abt adam's deal, adam in hell. they've been trying to rescue him themselves. then suddenly he's back and the demons are terrified of what they saw blaze through hell to rescue him. dean and sam hightail it to minnesota where they find adam very alive and talking about angels. talking about how one has been speaking to him (he can hear michael's true voice) trying to convince it to let him possess him for a Very Important Purpose.
dean is like oh hell no! fuck that. also there's no such thing as angels this is clearly some other being trying to trick you.
heaven is Not happy about dean meddling. dean is meddling SO hard. he's like, we need to protect adam. he's family! he's our brother too! he never asked to be dragged into this life. he deserves better than this shit.
so, heaven sends down an angel to deal with the Dean Problem. that angel is cas, of course. first cas tries the wrathful soldier of heaven approach, telling dean to back off or else. very horny-kitchen-moment. dean's not intimidated by it (he is horny tho). when that doesn't work, cas just starts trailing him, popping up at random times, eventually just sticking to dean like glue. dean's annoyed as hell at first, keeps jumping every time cas pops in. the personal space issues are incessant. cas has definitely popped in while dean was in the shower or jerking off. but then, it starts to feel...kinda nice. he likes having someone else around, other than sam.
and the more time cas spends with dean, the more curious cas becomes of humans and all their little humanisms. he asks questions. he watches movies with dean. he listens as dean rambles about the things he loves. and cas starts to become very fond of this human. and starts to question (re-question) heaven. it's been a while since he's been on earth, it's been awhile since his last lobotomy. he doesn't remember he's loved humanity for a long time. but he's re-experiencing that love. falling in love with humanity all over again, questioning heaven's ways, doubting.
meanwhile, midam is going through their own little parallel romance + rebellion arc. michael and adam having deep conversations as michael continues to speak to adam with his true voice. michael visiting adam's dreams and adam showing him all the things he loves. telling michael about his mom, about growing up in minnesota, their first house with the yellow kitchen, his dreams of being a doctor, how he doesn't even really like baseball but he still holds a certain fondness for the sport because going to those games were happy memories despite john being a total deadbeat dad. michael realizing humanity is worth saving, worth protecting. realizing this apocalypse isn't worth the amount of loss it will cause. realizing maybe his father was wrong. doubt. for the first time he feels...
and then eventual cas + michael team up to stop the apocalypse and reform heaven

What is this thing with regulus redemption arcs and how, "oh he let sirius be abused" —
Shut up. Shut the fuck up. Shuuuuuuuuuut uppppp.
I'm so happy some of you have never been in heavily abusive households before that you can speak of abuse victims this way. That you get to keep this idealized version of what siblings are supposed to do when they're all under abusive parents. But also, *sighs*
Guys.
The ignorance.
I have three older siblings and we all got our beatings okay??? Our parents will set themselves aflame and then set us aflame too. And let me tell you. There's nothing like the fear that strikes when one of you is about to get and/or when one of you is already being HIT.
There is no letting this "one" sibling be abused.
YOU FUCKING FREEZE UP. Because it's terrifying. It shocks you every time. It kills a part of you off. It ruins something for everyone. Feeling so genuinely terrified that you remain unmoving in the face of abuse, under an abusive household —
Is not letting your sibling/s be abused.
We've all taken turns being the one at the receiving end of a hand. We've all taken turns having to watch/hear a sibling get hit.
It shocks you still. It scares you silent.
I'm sure there are plenty of people who've been in a similar household or relationship with their parents and stood up to them. However, that's not your everyday reality.
The shit is fucking scary my dudes.
Sometimes you just have to pick yourselves up after the storm passes. Sometimes it's all you can do.
So when i see shit like regulus "letting sirius be abused" and regulus "being a coward" because he didn't want to get beat up or be cut off from his family,
It makes me see red.
It's so insensitive. So misguidedly ignorant. So misinformed because of popular fanon discourse. And honestly? It sets up a lot of stigmatizing views when it comes to abuse victims.
Regulus can be a coward for many, many, reasons! But being scared of abuse himself and not wanting to be abused, as he sees the consequences that make its mark on his brother's skin IS NOT IT. Nor does him, apparently, not having been beaten enough justify being called a coward. Can some of you think for a second first?
The one thing I've never wanted more being part of the black brothers fandom, is just the tiniest (a lot) bit more sensitivity towards abuse and what it does to its victims. This consideration of course applies to sirius. Leaving an abusive household isn't an act of evil or betrayal. However, some of you will vilify a kid for being an abuse victim whose actions you can't seem to glorify. Well, let me tell you — there's nothing to glorify about abuse.

PROPAGANDA
Six
Once again (just like with every morally grey character I think) there's a war between "she's a monster" and "she's an angel". Six, as a character, is very cool because there's no dialogue or anything in the Little Nightmares games, and a lot of things that are just not showed. The whole point is everyone can have their own interpretations and theories. But Six is just so disrespected by the fandom ! On one side, it's "she's a monster, we hate her, she's selfish and uses people to get what she wants !" On the other side it's "she's a kid and my favorite character so by default she can't be a bad person, she's actually a sweet and pure angel !" None of them are right. For the first ones... Six isn't that much of a monster. And I'm gonna say it : yes, she is a literal kid. That doesn't mean she can't be bad, but she thinks like a kid. She probably cared for Mono before she betrayed him – we can see her trying to help him when he was in the TVs. She probably has a reason why she betrayed him. There's a lot of different theories on that and none of them is more valid than the others because again you're meant to have your own interpretation, so I won't tell any of the popular theories here. You can think she did it for selfish reasons. That doesn't mean she's a literal monster, and that doesn't mean the people who don't think it was selfish are mischaracterizing her. For the second ones... I don't even know what to tell you. If there's one CLEAR thing in these games, it's that Six is morally grey and could do something scary at any moment. As the player you're literally MEANT to be scared of her and what she could do. In the first game you are meant to slowly realize her hunger isn't human. You can also see how she doesn't try to help any of the kids trapped here, she's just helping herself. In the second one she does scary thing all along the game to keep you scared that she could kill and eat Mono at any time, only for her to betray him in the worst way possible at the end. We don't know her reasons but she still did it. Six is a morally grey character. She's just a kid trying to survive in a world full of monsters. She's also full of darkness, acts like a creep and eats literal people. You can't say she's "just a monster", the same way you can't say she's "a little angel who did nothing wrong".
The whole thing with Little Nightmares is that the world is terrifying and horrible. It is eat or be eaten in the most literal sense. Six does what she has to to survive. Has she done some bad things? Yes. Was it her fault? …Debatable. But the fandom treats this CHILD like she’s the worst person to ever exist. Like, she’s not even ten years old. She’s a survivor. Mono did plenty of questionable things too, but I’ve never seen anyone hate on him.
Daisy Tonner
A lot of people just. Write her character off, especially in the earlier seasons, as acab. She did bad things as a cop while she was being taken over by an evil eldritch entity, but everyone just kinda focuses more on the do part than yk. Evil eldritch entity. Now I ain’t gonna justify her actions, she was indeed kinda a bitch, but she was also under the influence of the Hunt, and been for I think decades at the point where we first meet her. Afterwards she ofc got her redemption arc, but everyone (both in canon, but also fandom) treated her like shit even after that, when she was trying to be better. Idk, maybe I’m a daisy simp, maybe IM the one viewing the character wrong, idk. I’m just mad at everyone writing everything off as her being a cop when it was also A PRIMORDIAL GOD OF FEAR THAT WAS PRACTICALLY POSSESSING HER
Girl is a brutal cop who murders people. She is also someone who resisted the absolute pull of the Fears in TMA and didn’t hunt anyone for multiple weeks, something the main character couldn’t even do. She’s incredible bc she is literally like. Grey grey. She’s a fascinating character and cannot be good nor bad depending on how you interpret end actions vs intent.
She did try to slit the main character's throat, and she did do a ton of police brutality- BUT she got a redemtion arc. She tried to better herself. She gave herself over to a evil fear god in order to protect her friends. Her arc is about how it's never too late to try to be better, and about how you can accidently drag others down with you and about how sometimes we become monsters when we want to be better. And I swear- everyone either thinks she's evil or she's good. No inbetween.

Post script on Not Alive, Nor Dead
Like I mentioned yesterday, I have a lot to say about the fic now that it's done.
The TLDR is that I'm leaving an option for a sequel. No promises though.
Leaving the rest of it under the cut because idk how long it will end up.
Okay, so first thing I gotta admit is that I didn't plan shit lmao. I had the start very clearly in my head, which were the scenes I talked about in the first post I made about revenant AU. But the entire plot line with Graves being a secret revenant? Hell, even the whole 'revenants and non-revs are getting kidnapped around the world' was not planned.
The scene in chapter 4 with the PMC was the introduction for the anonymous PMC, but I didn't think of making Graves and in extension Shadow Company all the work of a revenant. I was debating even making him a revenant at all, up until I wrote the chapter introducing him.
This approach, of not planning shit, is what made me excited to sit down and write every day. It felt like I was discovering the story myself.
It's also a fucking miracle the story is coherent in any shape or form.
Now, I did write a few things before starting. They were a small overview of the character arcs I want the 141 to go through, and a brief about each revenant's powers, because those things need to be consistent.
The arc overview isn't accurate anymore, it has a version of Gaz's storyline that I didn't manage to fit in, where he has a fear of heights, and overcomes it throughout the fic. The only one really left unchanged was Soap, who had the whole "my powers are too destructive" thing ongoing for most of the story.
Speaking of Soap, the Konchar mystery? I was figuring it out while writing the 3 chapters before introducing 'Konchar'. There are some inconsistencies because of that, specifically in a line where Soap says something along the lines of "I did something on my Reaping, something that if I could replicate, I might've not been let on the team." which kinda makes sense but kinda doesn't, considering all that Ghost has done.
Ghost's struggles with Limbo were something I added after wanting to give him a parallel to Soap. Originally, Ghost's role was to be the guy that has already gone through what Soap is going through, already knowing everything and having as much control on Limbo as he can. But making Limbo this uncontrollable realm was more interesting... also having it reflect Ghost's mind and emotions was cool.
One of the most pleasant surprises was how Price's powers interacted with everyone else's. I think it was the best power to personality match I made, he's not as scary as the others at first glance, but the ability to bore into the minds of his enemies, the way no one can keep secrets from him? Makes him terrifying. It's not made clear in the fic, but the reason it took Price so long to figure Graves out is their previous encounters. Graves knew how to divert his thoughts away from his Shadows, and stop Price from finding out.
What made Price realize Grave's Shadows aren't human is he tried to read their mind, only to find a list of commands. Graves tried to keep them away as much as he can, but it was inevitable. Shepherd knew it, which is why he ordered Price to keep his mouth shut almost instantly.
Since the way revenants get their powers must be linked to the way they died, some revs were easier to find powers for than others. Obviously the 141 was first, some at the time I started thinking about how they died didn't have a canon near-death experience, like Price and Soap.
I took Ghost's og backstory, and the idea of Limbo was gotten from the fact he died in a coffin, in a state of in between life and death. What Limbo does to people was just 'scariest thing I could imagine' type of situation. In the end, I don't know if Limbo is scarier when Ghost couldn't control it, or when both he and Soap could.
With Soap, I knew I wanted something with explosions, so it was a no-brainer to make him die from one. I mentioned in another post, but revenant AU was originally at the very beginning just a thing of 'what if I put mw characters in my original magic system?', and in that scenario, Soap was the only one with powers, which were control over anti matter, meaning anything he touches or touches him explodes. The only scene from that one is of Soap pushing Ghost away and getting shot to high hell, only to go and explode the people that tried to kill him - which is chapter 8.
I chose to use Gaz's iconic hanging out of a chopper scene, because I found it funny tbh lol. Later, when I thought of how exactly he died, it became more serious.
Price's were just kinda random tbh. I figured telepathy is a good ability for a Captain.
Rudy obviously dies in the house fire he almost did in the campaign. Alejandro was harder, but I thought of how Graves locked him up in the black site prison alone, so I went for something similar.
It's not mentioned in the fic, but Farah was the youngest to die from all of them. The house collapse in the start of her flashbacks in mwi, where her father pulled her out of the rubble? She didn't survive it. She's a very rare revenant, to be Reaped when she was a kid.
Farah and Ghost's og backstory have a lot of similarities, in my mind they're parallels to each other. What Farah had that Ghost didn't, however, is other people, a community. I think that's why she didn't lose herself the way Ghost did.
Alex's was difficult, because his canon near-death experience was being exploded, like Soap. I used the fact he's ex CIA, to figure he probably took part of many covert operations, and one went wrong. He was caught, so now he can go invisible. This was the thing I failed to make clear the most in the fic, I think, since a few people asked, more than anything else.
Thomas Anderson, the revenant with underwater breathing abilities, was originally made just for Ghost to roast him. When chapter 8 rolled around, and I needed a random revenant to kill there, I thought using the one established would make sense.
Accidental foreshadowing like this was what carried the fic, tbh. It was like a huge session of 'yes, and'ing myself. A little bit of bullshitting confidently, sometimes it felt like that lmao.
The wedding vows in chapter 31 were, again, unplanned. Ghost said "till death do us apart, Johnny?", so I started looking up Christian wedding vows in English because I don't fully remember them. Later I thought "wait, Soap is Catholic, maybe they have a different version." and then I thought, "shit, he's fuckin' Scottish, he won't use fucking American Catholic vows." (maybe he would idk).
Anyway, I found the Celtic vows present in the fic, which sounded like a metaphor, so perfect I couldn't use them just for the original joke they were meant for. So Soap ends up reciting literal wedding vows at the man.
[here's a link to the website I found the vows at]
Last thing is the whole Makarov tie in to Konchar. I was thinking about how we never really dove deep into why Konchar did what he did, besides having his Reaper tell him "you have to kill Soap before he kills you". I heard an advice somewhere, that in world building you have to dive in two questions for it to be believable.
So, let's take Konchar for example. First question is, "how did Soap killing Konchar not bring on an international incident between Kastovia and the UK?". The answer is, "Konchar was an army deserter." Second question is, "why did Konchar desert the army?", and the second answer is, "because he left to work with Makarov."
We don't need to know why he left, not at the point I left the fic at. Those two answers would be enough for readers to not feel like there's a plot hole there, at least according to that advice I've heard.
NOW, with all of that out of the way, I wanted to post the notes I've made on each revenant's powers, because I thought it could be interesting for someone. AND! I kept some deleted scenes, and it would be a shame to just let them rot in the Google Doc lol.
First up, list of revenants and their powers:
[These aren't 100% accurate anymore, as they were written before I started writing the fic, and I only added stuff to them]
Ghost - limbo: is able to send a circle around him into “limbo”, a space between life and death, that no one can escape. Filled with his enemies. Only way to survive is if ghost brings you to the eye of the storm, where he keeps himself safe of his own powers. Ghost can be killed by any means if taken by surprise and doesnt activate his powers.
If stands still too long, inky hands start grasping at him from the ground. Prefers to sleep elevated.
Died in a coffin.
From chapter 21 and beyond - able to wield to withstand fire in his right hand.
Soap - explosion: cant be killed by explosions, and can explode anything he touches. Any injury with the root cause being explosion (fall from high building, debris scratches, etc.) will be healed, but he does feel pain from it. Gunshots cant kill him (the bullets shoot with explosions). Can be killed by any melee attack, poison, electricity.
Fire burns from his fingertips, hard to put out. Spreads when agitated. Hot to the touch.
Died from a fall because of an explosion.
From chapter 21 and beyond - able to wield the protective light in his left hand in Limbo.
Gaz - gravity: can manipulate gravity of himself and objects he touches. Cant die from falling. Can be killed by any means, but hard to catch and aim at while at motion.
Usually floats a couple inches off ground.
Died in a helicopter accident.
Price - telepathy: can talk and transmit simple ideas to other around him. Can feel emotions of others. Can be killed by any means, but Price can manipulate the enemies thoughts and distract them.
His thoughts can “leak” if left unguarded.
Died after being abandoned and without comms.
Alejandro - phase: can phase through solid objects, including bullets. Can be killed by any means if caught by surprise.
Sometimes accidentally phases through things.
Died in captivity.
Rodolfo - ice: can lower the temperature of anything he touches rapidly. Can freeze and jam guns. Can inflict ice burns. Can be killed by any means beside fire.
Breath always visible, cold to the touch.
Died in a fire.
Farah - steelskin: can deflect any attack to her body. Bullets, knives, rockets. Can be killed by poison easily, as needles cant pierce her skin and therefore medical administration is hard to give.
Skin shines oddly.
Died from a stab wound. [changed to what I explained above]
Youngest to become a revenant.
Alex - invisibility: can become invisible. Otherwise can be killed by any means, hard to spot.
Skin sometimes flickers.
Died when got caught.
Graves - shadow company: can create “shadows”, puppets he controls. Can be killed by any means, but hard to get through his shadows.
Doesnt have a shadow of his own, eyes become milky and vacant, leaking after a while.
Died from betrayal.
[I didn't manage to find a place to add this - yes, Graves died after his squad betrayed him. His powers are a replacement for the whole army. His last line, "Me? I am the army." was what he boiled down to. Limbo's victims marking him a traitor was two fold. He betrayed the 141, Vaqueros, the UFL and basically everyone around him, but he also betrayed his own Reaper, who gave him powers to not go through that very thing. It's also another reason why chapter 30 is called 'Die As You Live'.]
Kirill “Konchar” Bogomolov - telekinesis: can move objects with his mind. Can protect himself from any physical attack, and redirect them towards the attacker. Is a revenant of the Pull, like Gaz.  (name means “Lord” and “devotionalist”) First death from RPG, second death by Soap.
Now, for the cut content. Most of these are one scene, usually one that didn't fit the emotinal arc of the characters, or the direction was going somewhere I didn't like. There's one that is a page and a half long, and that chapter was one of the hardest to write, so I practically restarted it at one point.
I'll try to add the context they were originally in if I remember.
[Context: the scene in Chapter 5, where Ghost watches the night sky out of a window, unable to sleep, and Soap comes to speak with him for the first time since they fought about Soap's tendenticy to let himself get hurt. Soap says he heard rumors about Ghost, and Ghost asks what they said.]
“ (rumors) That you murder our soldiers.”
Something akin to fear rang through his chest. So he knows… He supposes it was meant to happen eventually.
Soap’s face, for some reason, doesn’t lose its newfound cheerfulness.
“And what do you think about those rumors?” Hell knows why he wants to keep hearing him talk.
“Well, that makes the two of us.”
… What.
“What?” Ghost intelligently mutters.
Soap’s eyes widen, face not unlike a child caught with his hand in a cookie jar.
[Reason to cut: Soap wasn't supposed to admit that yet. He also wouldn't have done it in such a non-chalant way, with how heavy the guilt weighs on him.]
[Context: Chapter 10, where Ghost was showing his powers to the Vaqueros and Graves.]
The Captain’s voice fills his head, “field’s clear, go ahead Lieutenant.”
Ghost glances one last time at Soap’s figure, no more than a small speck, far, far away from him.
He closes his eyes. The warm air of Las Almas dissipates into the chill of Limbo.
He opens them, confused. The void is quiet, the residents of Limbo looking at the distance, calm and still. It reminds him of… before.
Ghost frowns, narrowing his eyes to try and see what caught their attention. There, a far away point flickers.
A small, white flame. Where… Soap was standing.
Ghost blinks and stumbles back. Price instantly sounds in his mind, “Simon, what’s going on?!”
“I saw something there…” He makes eye contact with the Captain, who is now jogging towards him, Gaz and Soap behind him. “Light… from Johnny.”
It can’t be… how is Soap able to affect Limbo? Every single spiritulogist he met agreed on the fact he’s a sort of master over Limbo, that the realm is a manifestation he’s inseparably linked to.
The only thing others can do there, is die.
“What do you mean light?” Price urges on.
“A small flame. Where Soap was. The victims were all staring at it.”
The 141 members reach him, Johnny rushing to him, “are you alright?”
Ghost gapes at him, “you’re different. I’ve… changed you.”
Soap frowns, “what are ye on about?” he steps closer.
Ghost takes a step back, “stop.”
The Sergeant stills, a hurt expression flashing on his face before he schools his features.
Price invades his mind, “Simon, you have to calm down-”
“Calm down?! I fucked up Soap! I need to-”
The ladder patterns. Ghost turns around.
“SIMON RILEY”
“Reaper”, he exhales shakily.
“YOU’VE DOOMED YOURSELF. IT IS TOO LATE.”
“What are you talking about?!” Ghost screams, “you keep saying I’m gonna die, while Johnny keeps suffering!”
“I DO NOT CARE ABOUT OTHER REVENANTS, SIMON.”
The Reaper leans in to shriek in his ears, Ghost clutching his head uselessly.
“YOU ARE INTERTWINED.”
Ghost cries from the pain. His Reaper does not falter.
“KILL HIM FIRST.”
His vision fades along with the Reaper’s words.
“Ghost! Fuck, someone get a medic” Someone shouts above him.
Another voice interjects, “he’s not injured, Sergeant. He’s with his Reaper.”
“From my experience, that doesn’t make me holler and pass out!”
A third person joins the conversation, “shut it! He’s waking up.”
Ghost groans and makes a move to rub his eyes, only to be stopped by his hard-shell mask. “Simon? You alright son?” Price asks, bringing the smell of fresh flowers and a soft bed to him.
He gets up (when did he lay down?) and mutters, “fine”. His voice hoarse from screaming. He takes in his team, the three of them concernedly crouch beside him, except Soap, who’s pacing around.
The Sergeant stops and eyes him warily.
“My Reaper’s mad.” he says in lieu of explanation to the others.
Soap stops, and looks down at him, still avoiding his stare, “it’s because of me, isn’t it?”
He sighs, “when those arms started grabbing ye I thought it was gonna-”
“What arms?” Ghost gets up.
“The dark arms from the ground, don’t tell me you didn’t noti-”
Ghost grabs the front of Soap’s shirt, “you fuckin’ see them?!”
The Sergeant struggles against his iron tight grasp, “aye! Thought I was hallucinating last night, fuckers made a pass at me-”
Ghost pushes him away, “fuckin’ hell”.
What the fuck is going on?! Nobody can see the victims outside of Limbo. It’s almost like…
“He has some of my powers…” Ghost whispers to himself.
But that’s not possible?
[Reason to cut: chapter wasn't working out for me. Characters not reacting in character. Reaper not supposed to show up just yet, and what it says kinda repeats previous encounters.]
[Context: chapter 13, instantly after Rudy and Gaz confront Ghost on his relationship with Soap.]
What, do they think he and Soap are sleeping side by side every night, comfortably tangled under the thin sheets? That he warms himself on his Sergeant’s eternal flame, that Johnny brushes his charred, calloused fingers over his arms, his shoulders, his neck, chasing away the cold, inky grasp Limbo always has on him? That Ghost reciprocates, that he holds Johnny’s face softly, bringing them closer and closer until-
[Reason to cut: out of character. Ghost doesn't think about affectionate actions, he jsut does them. Too early in the story for him to express such wants.]
[Context: I don't remember honestly. Entire scene was cut. Might be later in chapter 13, before Graves threatens Ghost.]
He catches Alejandro pacing around the base one day, frowning and arguing with Rudy in Spanish. From what Ghost can pick up, it’s something about an American. He’s pretty damn certain which one.
“Vargas, any issues?” he stops him before the man pops a blood vessel.
Alejandro glances at him, scanning their surroundings for eavesdropping ears. “Come with me.”
The three enter the Vaquero Commander’s office, Rudy locking it behind them, “it’s about Graves.” Alejandro starts pacing again, “fucking gringo is ordering his shadows to collect intel on us.”
“What?” that’s a huge fucking development.
Rudy is quick to correct him, “we can’t prove anything. But yes… Graves knows more than he should.”
“He knows about secret tunnels we have under the base, and weapon stashes that not even Price knows about. We got fucking Shepherd trying to get us to use locations for the mission he shouldn’t even know exist.”
Ghost feels the tension climb up his spine, “what the fuck do you think he’s playing at?”
Alejandro exhales loudly, “whatever it is, [I didn't finish the sentence]
[Reason to cut: Decided that Vaqueros wounldn't suspect Graves, and he wouldn't risk his powers found by using Shadows to spy on them. Didn't like where the scene was directing the story.]
[Context: chapter 19, when Ghost asks Gaz for help with showing emotions with Soap. Gaz asks why can't he now.]
Garrick nods thoughtfully, “and what is it that stops you? Fear?”
Ghost clenches his teeth, this conversation feels like pulling them out one by one, “I’m not afraid of him.”
“Wasn’t saying that sir”, Gaz thrums on his boot, “could be rejection, or… shit. Of course.” he stares at Ghost, eyes soft.
“The fuck’s it?” he glares back.
Gaz releases his powers, standing up in front of him, “you need to get over your fear of feeling.”
[Reason to cut: out of character. Wouldn't confront emotions head on. Unnatural for Gaz to just state that, rather have it implied. Not where I wanted Ghost's mentality to go.]
[Context: no idea. Probably after Ghost sent Soap to Limbo, and he gained an immunity to it.]
“We don’t have to be afraid, Simon. You can’t hurt me anymore.” Johnny whispers
[Reason to cut: don't remember.]
Tumblr is starting to lag, which means this post is huge lmao. Again, thank you to each and every one of you! The response to the fic was amazing, I never expected my little revenant AU to turn into something this big!
I loved the experience of writing Not Alive, Nor Dead. You can certainly expect more from me in the future!
For now, I have to focus on uni, and after that I have a few ideas for comics I wanna do. Might make a few oneshots in between, but no big projects like this one just yet!

Since we’re doing s16 wish lists, here’s what I wanna see (in no particular order except for the first one):
Reunion episode(s). Can take up to three episodes because I’m okay with suffering. There are several ways this could go and I have a couple fics on the back burner about it so I won’t elaborate.
Beach episode: they planned to spend a few days near the sea, but a case falls on their laps. Dean is in denial and just wants to chill. The universe seems to be on his side as every time something supernatural happens, he barely misses it (think Linda from Phineas and Ferb). Cas, Sam, and Eileen are slowly losing it, being bullied by a giant squid. Dean is in a long chair, reading Vogue, and sipping Piña Coladas. Jack pops by and goes ‘wow, you guys look like shit!!’ (Dean fell asleep and got a massive sunburn).
Weekend at Bobby’s but Cas, and more comedic. I want this one to expose the shit out of the brothers. Have them be in a middle of a tiff and make it everyone’s problem. Point of the episode being, Cas loves them (especially Dean) a lot. But sometimes he wants to throttle them.
Bittersweet episode about aging. I’m thinking parallels with a monster/human relationship and hunters who got out. Saileen talking about having/adopting children question mark. Potentially dismissed after hearing Dean and Claire having a row whilst Cas tries to defuse the situation (he makes it worse).
Theee Destiel episode (they’re all more or less destiel but this is the big one. Can take place during the reunion arc). They talk about it ™️. It can last the whole season as long as they end up in a relationship by the end. I’m not particularly into domestic portrayals (nothing against them, just not my cuppa tea) so you can make the drama last. Especially if it’s getting on everyone’s nerves.
Oblivious Sam. ‘He meant as a friend, right? 😀🌸’. Would be especially funny if Dean is trying to talk about it but Sam is just not computing. Especially especially funny if he tries to defend their friendship being all like ‘yeah they’re weird but you’re an arsehole for assuming that there’s something more!!’. Dean and Cas look like they were dragged through a hedge backward and mugged by a pack of clowns. Turns out Sam’s right in the end, they weren’t doing anything YET. But now that he has contemplated the possibility, he can’t unsee it. To be continued
Continuation of the previous episode. Sam is looking for a memory erasing spell because he just CANNOT with those star crossed losers. He find Naomi’s… what the fuck was her lobotomy stuck, anyway? Some kind of sonic screwdriver? Moving on, he realises it’s been used recently (traces of grace or whatever, pick your poison. The magic system doesn’t make any sense anyway). Oops :) looks like someone has been messing with them. Wait. Wasn’t there someone else? Where’s Eileen?
The Big Bad. I love me some Chuck won and possessed Jack so it would go in that direction. The sonic screwdriver was in the bunker because Eileen caught Chuck!Jack’s new creation fucking with their brains. I wish it could be a cool uncanny monster, but let’s be real it will probably be just some dude ™️. She walked in on it lobotomising Cas (because it’s iconic<3) and tries to fight the thing off. Epic and terrifying chase scene through the bunker, especially since Eileen can’t hear the creature. She hides in a room where they keep spell ingredients and finds Sam’s conveniently placed recipe for calling Rowena. You can figure out the rest.
[end of part 1]

Rebirth au: whos him that papa arc is talking about? Finally some context as to WHY they're an asshole to Jaune, and is Jeanne gonna make it into the harem?
The Cold Heart Truth
Acheius: Okay… Okay… Head count… Jaune, Jeanne, Saphire, Saphron…
Juniper: Luna, Janette, Carol, Angela, Thiriana… Yeah, that’s all of them.
Luna: What’s going on mom?
Saphron: Dad’s gonna tell us why he doesn’t want, Jaune to be a, Huntsman.
Carol: Oh this should be good.
Angela: I wonder what this will be about.
Jeanne: Dad’s going to explain why he won’t let, Jaune train to become a, Huntsman.
Janette: Oh this should be good.
Jaune: It better be…
Thiriana: Okay, Dad we’re all here, explain why you won’t let, Jaune become a, Huntsman?
Acheius: …
Juniper: It’s okay, Dear, we’re all here with you.
Acheius: Okay… This happened years ago… many years ago…
Saphron: How many years ago?
Acheiss: Enough.
Saphron: That’s not a…!
Juniper: Save your questions for later, Saphron.
Saphron: Sorry.
Saphire: Go on, Dad.
Acheius: Haaa… Okay… So your mother, and I were on our way home after a trip from the hospital. Your mother was about five months pregnant at the time, we went to see how the baby was doing. The pregnancy wasn’t go that well. Not that it was bad, but it wasn’t that well…
Thiriana: What’s was wrong?
Juniper: It was my first pregnancy. We weren’t sure what would happen, so we went to the hospital to see how things were going. Everything was fine.
Saphron: I thought you had a hard time with my birth?
Juniper: Both set of the twins were harder to deal with…
Jeanne: Sorry…
Juniper: Don’t worry. Keep going, Achi.
Acheius: Well, we were on our way back with a caravan, merchants, people fleeing, Vale. And a couple of, Hunter’s. I was nervous beyond belief, I wanted to get back home as fast as I could because I was freaking out about the baby, and your mother.
Carol: Not much has changed has it?
Acheius: Ha! No, no it hasn’t… Anyway, you can all probably expect what happened…
Jaune: A Grimm attack?
Acheius: Yeah… Typical, Grimm attack… But… by the time I realized we were under attack… the cart that had been carrying us had been flipped over… and… and…
Juniper: And, I lost the baby…
Saphron: Oh gods!
Thiriana: Saphron wasn’t the first?!
Janette: W-What?!
Coral: You had a miscarriage…?!
Angela: Mom, are you okay?
Jeanne: Excuse me! I need to… Hrk?!
Saphire: Me too!
Luna: The baby…
Jaune: …
Juniper: Uhh… We’ll continue our story when your sisters come back.
Acheius: They’re taking this better than I expected…
~~~
Juniper: So… Everyone feeling better?
JS: No…
Carol: That was to be expected…
Janette: No shit! It’s not every day your mom tells you she had a miscarriage! How else did you expect them to react?!
Coral: You know that’s not what I meant, Jan!
Janette: Then why the hell are you making jokes?!
Coral: How the fuck do you expect me to take this?! Making jokes is the only way I can… I can handle… THIS?!!
Janette: Have you ever heard of a thing called timing?!
Thiriana: Enough! Enough you two… Neither of you are helping… You’re just making things worse…
Carol: Ah! S-Sorry… I didn’t mean to…
Janette: Sorry…
Jeanne: Jaune…?
Jaune: …
Jeanne: Jaune, are you okay…?
Jaune: It was a boy… Wasn’t it?
Juniper: What?
Jaune: Mom was five months pregnant; you can tell the gender of the baby by then… You don’t want me to be a, Huntsman because you’re scared. Scared because you don’t want to lose another son, aren’t you?
Acheius: Ha! Haha haaaa… You’re damn right I’m scared…
Jaune: …
Acheius: Haa… When you said you wanted to become a, Huntsman… I haven’t felt such fear before in my life… I laughed at you not because I don’t think you couldn’t be a, Huntsman, Jaune. You’re damn clever boy, more so than most people think. You would be one hell of an impressive, Huntsman. I laughed because… Because it’s a defence mechanism! I laugh when I’m scared, and when you said you wanted to be a huntsman… I’m terrified to lose another son… I… I can’t handle it… I can’t handle it again…
Luna: I’m confused… Why are you so hurt about this, Dad! Mom lost the baby not you!
Juniper: Luna!
Jaune: But, Dad couldn’t do anything.
Luna: W-What?
Jaune: Dad was with, Mom in the wagon, they didn’t even know the, Grimm was there. Dad is beating himself up because if he was outside watching out for, Grimm, instead of watching over, Mom like he did. Well… Maybe none of this would have happened. And, that’s what’s eating away at, Dad so much, isn’t it?
Acheius: Hehe… Haa… Like I said: He’s a damn clever boy… Yeah… That’s why I’m so upset… I couldn’t do anything to save my unborn son… I’m a failure…
Jeanne: For what? Y-You said it yourself there wasn’t anything you could do! Yes, you lost your first son, but you have, Jaune! You have all of us too!
Saphron: And, you’ve done a damn good job of protecting us! Yes you may have failed… But, it’s like you say: “So long as I can stand back up…”
Acheius: “Any lessoned learned is worth the price…”
Saphron: Yeah…
Jaune: …
Jaune: Dad…?
Acheius: Jaune…?
Jaune: I’m going to be a, Huntsman… No matter what you say I’m going to become a Huntsman. So… Will uou train me to become a, Huntsman. To become the, Huntsman that you needed that day. Please!
Acheius: …
Jeanne: Please, Dad?
Acheius: …
Juniper: Achi…
Acheius: …?
Juniper: He will become that, Huntsman. No matter what comes his way, he will become that, Huntsman. You know he will.
Acheius: Haaa…
Acheius: I’m going to make it hell, for both of you.
Jeanne: Oh! I’m so excited!
Jaune: Ha. Bring it old man.
Acheius: Oh, you’re gonna get it now. Come on uou two. Its time to train you into some, Hunters!
Jeanne: Whoo! Lets fucking go!
Juniper: Language young lady!
Jeanne: Sorry!
Jaune: Thanks, Dad. I’ll make you proud.
Acheius: Ha… You always have, Jaune. You always have…
///
So… Yall still angry at, Jaune’s dad for laughing now?!
Hmm?!! Hmm?!!
HMMM?!!
Seriously, it surprised me how upset you lot were. Gave me some good story idea though so… meh. Whatever.
here's the thing: the average temperature for gotham is 60 degrees fahrenheit. in the summer, it can fight its way up to 80 degrees, chip-nailed and vicious, but more often than not, it contents to float around 40 degrees.
every time superboy flies into gotham, pointed feet landing on the paved rooftop without a sound, eyes fixed on robin and robin only, he's hit with a wave of cold immediately. shoulders hunched in his patched leather jacket, hands curled into his fingerless gloves, a tremble rocking through his muscled frame as he bounces over to robin's side. he's shivering, and he isn't supposed to be in gotham, but superboy has a habit of breaking a couple rules for robin.
"i thought you were supposed to be half superman, right superboy?" robin says. superboy wouldn't be able to see his raised eyebrow under his domino, lead-lined as it was, but it was the principle of the thing, really.
superboy shoulder-checks robin lightly, and it's like a burning hearth, like smoke curling up from his lips. robin rocks backward to keep from leaning into him "shut up. i get power from the sun, i know you know that, and you can't see shit in gotham." robin just snickers at superboy's outrage, then at the other boy's dirty look, nots very gravely as he gestures to continue.
"besides," kon says, suddenly seeming off-kilter, a whisper, a fraction more awkward, "it's just kon right now. not superboy." his eyes bore into robin's white lenses, bright blue and too electric to be human, wanting to carve away robin's mask, wanting to find a way to sync his brain with robin's, wanting robin to feel safe enough to ask him for it.
(robin, with oil-painted shame, is inching towards feeling safe enough to ask him for it.)
"not superboy, huh?"
"i'm off-duty."
robin raises his second eyebrow, then slides down to dangle his legs off the side of the building. he kicks a few pebbles loose, and tracks them as they plunge into the boundless shadows of gotham city "are you ever really on-duty? kon?"
"i'll have you know," kon says, sitting down beside him, "that hawai'i public radio ranked me as their third top favourite superhero. professional superhero, that is."
"you'd think that you'd be first, considering you used to live there and all."
"shut up."
robin just laughs.
here's the thing: it's cold in gotham. it's cold and wet and rainy, miserable more often than not. it's a lighthouse, and the sea is angry and there are no ships in sight. kon flew here straight from a golden kansas home, hair seeped in sunlight, skin buzzing with heat.
so when he shuffles over, robin can't help but lean into him, basking in the light. when kon slings an arm around robin's shoulders, robin can't help but burrow into kon's side, leeching the heat off the crook of his neck. when kon's heavy fingers drift along robin's neck and tilt his head up, asking for permission, robin can't help but lean up to kiss the heat right off kon's lips. he was warm, warm the way a crushing hug was warm, warm the way a bleeding cut was warm, warm the way staring into a sunset was warm.
and when kon would pull back a hair's width, sighing robin into his lips, robin would say, "that isn't—that isn't my name."
kon would smile, somehow knowing the way robin's eyelids would flutter when he rubbed a thumb along robin's jaw, somehow knowing the way robin's heart would paint a rhythm tattoo inside his chest every time he pulled robin close. if robin is honest with himself, he knows kon could pick him out of a faceless line-up by his calloused fingers, his hitchhiker's thumb, the arc of his waist between his hard hips alone.
then, kon would say, "s'okay, rob. tell me when you want, tell me when you're able. i'll be here," and pull robin into another kiss.
here's the thing: the very thought of sharing his secret identity sends an icy shiver down robin's spine. the words tim drake dance along his tongue, then dash back down his throat, leaving frostbite in their wake, leaving him frozen cold, terrified. but kon, sunlight-drenched and clementine kissed as he is, seems to warm him up a little more every day.
--
superheroes telling other ppl their secret identity is a metaphor for coming out change my mind
anyway some classic timkon feels for pride!
like i know I've probably said it before, but. as much as s11 is my favorite of the late seasons of SPN, Dean's half of the season plot is boring and any potential it ever had is consistently squandered, and Sam's half only works if you're seeing the shrimp-colors cage-trauma version that jarpad is acting, not the "enemies to reluctant team-up to celestial-family reconciliation" nonsense that the writers think is a neat way to arrange their toys in the Big Epic (Unspeakably Stupid) Arc Plot dollhouse.
and i can't speak to how much of it was really intended or by whom, but there IS a throughline in there that may not be well developed or resolved, but still reawakens the good old "oh right that's why i ever went apeshit feral over either of these guys to begin with" feelings. the one where every step along the path of the Lucifer plotline is one of the most pants-shittingly terrifying things Sam has ever had to do, and every encounter brings a fresh kind of betrayal and violation that he somehow was not expecting, and every escalating step of the team-up is far too much to ask of anyone with the kind of history he has with this fucker. and he does it anyway, even though it's unbearable. and it just makes him more determined to stay capable of faith and charity and trust in the face of all this, because he needs to, because it's been foundational since season 2 that some kind of faith in a benevolent higher power is a psychological need for him to keep going in the crapsack world they inhabit.
that's the version jarpad is acting, the one where okay fine, sam will do it, but he'll look like he wants to fucking die the whole time. and the instant he (visibly! you can see it! like a switch got flipped between episodes!) gets told to stop harshing the vibes of their stupid "god and lucifer do family therapy" comedy bit with all that buzzkill Resting PTSD Face... that's the exact instant s11 dissolves like tissue paper. and i stop being able to suspend my disbelief that it's anything but a collection of unusually solid one-off episodes held together by the dumbest excuse for an arc plot on god's green earth. like oh, shit, this entire time they were literally just finding neat ways to arrange the toys in the dollhouse without any attempt to delve into what makes these characters tick in that configuration. even though it is RIGHT! THERE! and at least one of the actors is serving it up to them on a platter. they TOLD HIM TO STOP SERVING UP THEIR UNDONE CHARACTER WORK ON A PLATTER.
so yeah. entire season arcs propped up by jared padalecki's acting. who'd've guessed.
do au squared jesse's feelings of inadequacy or self hatred mean he ever neglects baby, physically or emotionally?
yeah :( i know im number one conflict avoider but giving a 24 year old drug addict who experiences The horrors a literal infant to take care of is not going to go perfectly. he makes a lot of mistakes early on due to ignorance and sometimes due to being high or just not paying the right attention, but thats part of the learning curve and theyre more like direct concrete mistakes that he can be like "oh shit" and try to fix. as the show goes on and things just continually Get So Much Worse though, jesse understandably feels Tormented and like hes the source of the evil thats slowly poisoning his life and that really exacerbates his ongoing inner conflict of "wanting to be the sole provider for baby and not trusting anyone else to take care of her, but also feeling disgustingly inadequate and like his poison is eventually going to destroy baby too". when hes in his really low pizza sonic crackhouse place, he struggles the most with this conflict and does emotionally neglect baby because he Thinks this is the correct course of action. he's a murderer and the bad guy and baby shouldn't even be close to him. he leaves her with demi whenever he possibly can and is distant and sad when she's around, feeling even worse every time he looks at her. obviously, baby doesnt understand wtf his damage is and gets upset as they spend more time apart both physically and emotionally, which just reinforces his notion that he's bad for her.
jesse's on the verge of straight up handing over baby to demi despite the absolute agony that would cause him when a night comes that throws everything back into perspective for him. it's shortly after the "gus decides to invest in jesse and keep him from killing himself" arc begins where the Party is beginning to wind down, but theres still some people around and hes still using intermittently. hes coming down from a high downstairs when he hears baby crying upstairs in her room, which he always keeps closed and locked with one of those child proof (and meth head proof) locks so no "guests" can never enter her room. her crying doesnt just trigger that parent, "let me go see what they need" reflex: it Hurts him. terrified that someone got in and is hurting her, he hurries up the stairs and fumbles with the lock for a long moment before finally managing to let himself in. there's no one else there, thank god, just baby wailing in her crib. he picks her up, automatically checking to see if she's wet (nope), then notices that she feels a little warm. he knows by now that babies get sick all the time—"u look away for five minutes and they'll start running a fever," mike will say to him later on during a drop—but that realization still feels awful. jesse's about to have the "i did this and baby needs to be away from me" thought and call demi when baby makes her grabby hands. desperate for a hold. desperate for Him. he obliges, holding her close and feeling her little body wiggle around to eliminate any possible space between them. she wants him. in spite of Everything, she wants him specifically. he ends up sitting there in her room for a long while, just cuddling her as she cries and eventually calms down and nuzzles his neck even though his scruff is probably all scratchy. there's stuff to do (the baby thermometer is downstairs and he should still have some infant tylenol around), but he just sits and cuddles her first. baby still loves him. he hasn't poisoned her and the distance has just been hurting the both of them instead of protecting her. he loves his baby so, so much and he promises her in his head that he's going to be better for both of them. they both deserve it.
Rating DR1 Characters on the Fight Me, Bruh Scale
On that note, here are all characters from DR1 rated based on how confident I am that I could beat them in a fight.
Yasuhiro Hagakure Hiro is a formidable clairvoyant who can foresee every punch I'm going to throw. However, he's wrong in two out of every three punches so his guard is probably worse than a non-clairvoyant's would be.
Kiyotaka Ishimaru In a fair fight, he seems like he'd be stronger than he looks. He's a strict disciplinarian who participates in Monokuma's morning workouts. But he also seems like he'd be vulnerable to cheap shots. Sand in the eyes. Nut shot. Wouldn't see it coming. He'd be whining about the unfairness while I'm on top of him, decking him.
Kyoko Kirigiri Given her line of work, she definitely carries a knife on her. But she also has a bit of delicacy to her. She always makes Makoto do anything involving physical exertion, so it's unlikely she's developed much in the way of muscle mass. She's more likely to try and avoid ever being in a situation where she has to fight than she is to actually win a fight.
Makoto Naegi Makoto is a peacemaker, not a fighter. Hell, a significant chunk of DR3's Future Arc was about how very much not a fighter Makoto is. The guy has a wealth of assets, but boxing isn't one of them. He is, however, fairly good at cardio, so he wouldn't be a total pushover either.
Leon Kuwata As an athlete, he's presumably well built. Though he relies on natural talent and doesn't put any effort in, so it's unlikely he works out. There's also a good chance he's going to do some incredibly stupid shit to impress some random girl watching us fight, and thus give me plenty of openings to work with.
Celestia Ludenberg She may look the part of a pleasant, refined little noblewoman but Celeste is a beast. She probably carries a knife somewhere on her person. Her finger-gauntlet thing is made for stabbing. She's obsessed with European royalty so she might have some fencing skills too. She definitely fights dirty.
Mondo Owada Mondo has certainly been in his share of fights. He'd be a beast of an opponent for a very straightforward slugfest - and unlike Taka, he'd be prepared for cheap shots, though he wouldn't deliver them himself. Too unmanly. Against a different opponent, his hangups about not fighting women might create openings. But I gender-present male so this would just be a straightforward, incredibly hard fistfight.
Aoi Asahina Swimmers are some of the most physically-built athletes in all of sports. Aoi's a sweetheart but she's got some strength to put behind those punches. And when she gets mad, she loses her shit. If I start shit with her, she will laser-focus on ruining my day with a mountain of hammer blows.
Hifumi Yamada All he has to do is sit on me. Sincerely. His body type is a significant advantage at close-range grappling. The guy weighs 342 lbs. Can you lift 342 lbs? Because I can't. Once he gets in close enough to grab me, I'm done.
Byakuya Togami Little rich boy probably starts crying if you-- NO THAT'S WRONG. He may look like a twig but Byakuya's one of the only people here with actual combat experience. This dude has fought gladiator-style and won. He's also utterly devoid of empathy. He will gut me without a second's hesitation and then promptly forget I even existed.
Sayaka Maizono You think Sayaka's easy pickings? You fool. You utter fool. You underestimate the lengths Sayaka will go to when backed into a corner. She fights dirty and she fights ferociously. She will do whatever it takes. Also, she reads minds. Unless there happens to be a convenient nearby mid-range weapon to keep her at bay and break her arm with, she'd be a terrifying opponent.
Mukuro Ikusaba She has a knife. She has a gun. She has a ballistic vest. This isn't a fight. This is war, and she's here to win it. Given her service history with Fenrir, I don't stand a chance.
Junko Enoshima She knows every move I'm going to make before I do. She knows exactly where my weaknesses are. And she has the combined Talents of everyone she's been able to analyze the Talents of. She's going to gouge my eyes out with those fake nails of hers, without even breaking a sweat.
Sakura Ogami Junko has the combined Talents of everyone but let's be real, Sakura's Talent is doing a lot of the heavy lifting in a fight. You know who else has Sakura's Talent? Sakura. But what Sakura has that Junko doesn't are muscles for days. You could slice meat on those abs. She could wrap her arms around my neck and flex me to death. Combine that with Ultimate Martial Arts and I'm dead in three seconds flat.
Toko Fukawa/Genocide Jack I'm lumping these in together because you might start out fighting Toko, but if the sight of blood and unconsciousness both trigger her switch then you're still fighting Jack eventually. Jack is a remorseless killer who is always armed with infinity stabbing implements. She attended Anime Warrior High School and can consequently make a Spirit Bomb out of scissors. I've got nothing for that.
Chihiro Fujisaki I punch Chihiro one time. He falls straight on his ass and cries. It's terrible. I'm a monster. Now I have to kick my own ass in retribution and that's not a situation anyone ever wants to be in.
