incoming dangender thoughts: the more I read up/watch the stuff dan has said about gender after BIG + reflect on what he said in BIG I'm like. y'all she really has been explicitly trying to tell us his gender IS formless blob (without making it a huge deal in the mainstream public eye), but so many people haven't actually been taking him seriously! like. labels are made up, dan has pretty much said as much before. why do we have to have a specific approved™ term to consider them genderqueer/nonbinary/trans? those are descriptive labels and dan has been using a fun descriptive label they created that he defined for us in BIG, a definition that matches up with those other labels! and dan has said since 2019 that he is comfortable with any pronouns even though he still mainly uses he/him. like, lately dan has been using more she/her and they/them for herself and experimenting with being more femme and/or androgynous in various ways, and what is changing is not even necessarily gender (although maybe who knows), but probably that dan is finally feeling more comfortable with different kinds of gender presentation and pronouns than she typically uses. because low-key gender is kind of a performance and it's scary to switch it up sometimes but dan feels safe doing so especially with their audience and I think that's actually really special 🧡 but moral of the story, dangender has actually been out in the open since 2019 and I wish more people picked up on that!

Ugh, so, I don't even know if anyone is actually gonna read this, and I'm not really the one who would participate in fandom very actively (I was always a passive observer, liking other's people content), but the stuff with the leaks of the extra 8 pages of snk ending has been really bothering me for the last few days, and I really need to get a few things off my chest.
I really wanted to wait till 9th June to form my full thoughts. However, since basically all pages have leaked anyway and quite a reliable source confirmed there is basically no additional context to them whatsoever, I decided I might as well write this anyway and vent somewhere to clear my head so I can finally move on with my life to focus on other things I like and with other important irl stuff. Moreover, since Tumblr seems like a reasonably safe space to do so (comparing to one hell of a Twitter...) I might as well do it here. So, let's go.
So, basically, my main problem with those pages is simply that... you just don't do that. No. You don't release an ending, make people think it's really the end, then say you're gonna release a few additional pages that won't change anything but simply clarify some things, and then, two months later, release these pages indeed but not only they don't actually clarify anything, but in fact, create even more plot holes. Furthermore, as a cherry on top, they change the ending quite completely. If those pages had been included in the original release, most people, myself included, would've moved on by now. But noooo, make us go through this hell again. Great :))))
And as for the content of those pages, well... I can't help but feel they really did quite a disservice to Mikasa, one of my favourite female characters ever. My biggest problem isn't even that she 'moved on' (whatever that means at this point, coz I feel like fandom has been successfully managing to butcher that term ever since 139 has dropped) and started a family on her own because I'm fully aware that falling in love again after you first love died is an entirely normal thing irl. But ffs, we're not talking about irl here; we're talking about snk and Mikasa. And the thing that MAINLY bothers me, is the way it has been presented.
I'm not going to delve into the husband's possible identities, 1) I'm not interested at all in participating in any ship wars, 2) because we don't even get to see his face and sources say we indeed don't get any direct confirmation in that regard. Not that this matters anyway, because we get presented with Mikasa on the one hand staring her own family, but on the other, still continuing to visit Eren's grave repeatedly throughout her life and in the end, getting buried with a scarf on, her dearest remembrance of Eren, and maybe even getting buried next to him (even tho, the latter is still not 100% confirmed, bcs here sources are contradictory, but judging by the general mood of those pages, I'd not be surprised at all if it turns out to be the case).
That makes me think the whole family-stuff was used only to present the passage of time and the fact that Mikasa never fully got over Eren, bcs we don't see the family in any other context besides the visits to the grave. And that leads me to my other question - was introducing the family really NECESSARY, then? Couldn't Mikasa simply visit the grave with Armin, and maybe even with Armin, Annie and their kids? Idk about you, but that would make 100% more sense to me. Also, don't get me even started, how much in the wrong way it rubs me that Mikasa, the character who, as we know, always deeply cared about others, even strangers (Gabi, etc.), would just drag her husband, her children and grandchildren to the grave of her first love on which she had written 'my most beloved, my dear'? Do I really need to elaborate on how WEIRD that is?
But I guess that's on me for believing a male author would write a satisfactory conclusion to the main female character (not Mikasa touring around Hizuru, not Mikasa playing with kids at the orphanage, no! Forced family plot, instead! Take that!)
As of Eremika, aka my most cherished paring ever since 2014... I guess the only good thing in that mess is that at least it doesn't invalidate them. If anything, it validates them even more, because the stuff I've mentioned earlier prove their love was eternal and Mikasa never truly got over it. So, all in all, I'm gonna still cherish them forever. There are still many unexplored aspects of their bond, so I believe we, as a community, have a big room to explore (pls, I'm begging you, explore with me all the possibilities of their four years in the cottage in the mountains, I swear, that sh!t has so much potential it's unbelievable).
As of Paradis getting destroyed, well, that leaves me bitter, even though after doing some thinking, that really might be the least out of place thing in those pages. At least according to sources, it happens when Mikasa is already dead, so at least Eren's wish of giving his friends long, secure lives came true. However, that would be it.
And as of titan's power still being there and some kid apparently finding the source of it... this just screams 'sequel-baiting', AND I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT. That's it.
To end my definitely too long rambling, I just wanna say, I really would have liked to wait till 9th June to publish my thoughts, but as I've said, those last few days have been driving me crazy and I really wanted just to get all of it off my chest and move on. I want for now to just focus on my irl things, like working on my master's thesis and other stuff giving me joy, like Eurovision next week coming back after 2-years-absence due to pandemic. Eurovision is one of the few things that I love, and I intend on fully enjoying it next week, not sulking on those leaks too much. And if by some completely unexpected miracle I get pleasantly surprised on 9th June (even tho I truly doubt it at this point) - that would be only a win for me, I guess.
Anyway, please remember, all that I have written here is ONLY MY OPINION, and if you disagree with anything, that's valid, you're completely entitled to that. I'm not publishing this to argue with anybody, only to clear my head. That's it.
If anyone has read this too long personal rant of mine - thank you, I'm kissing you on the forehead right now.
Oh, and remember - EREMIKA IS CANON. And always will be (no, that one is not up for discussion).
Also, we have that official High School AU, and Eren right now is quietly snoozing on Mikasa's shoulder during another Twilight marathon she made him to take part in, and Armin and Annie are dissing people together on reddit while bonding over their pretentious taste in music. That's canon, Isayama told me after I had phoned him to ask wtf.
PS To think I was almost sure those extra pages will be about Mikasa's reunion with the rest of the alliance... I guess it's time to put that clown make up on.

Don't know if the anon wanted it but I do want the review for Fine Line 👀
oh yayyyyyy! there it goes! fair warning, i’ve written it upon my first / second listen as i do w all my reviews, bc i feel like that way it manages to include a first impression kind of vibe without it being superficial. i’ve reread and i agree w myself (hehe) and i’ve lifted a few grades bc i’ve been feeling some stuff more lately, but yeah, this was not written now so. just to clarify.
golden: okayyyyy i wasn’t expecting for his voice to sound like this!! like, low and raspy? it sounds more intimate this way, i think? as for the sound, it’s kind of funky and think as an opener, this song really represents the sound he chose for this album… i could be wrong tho, let’s see how it goes on. slightly repetitive but the voice won me over and overall, i really like it.
fave lyrics: i’m out of my head and i know that you’re scared because i’m so open.
8/10
watermelon sugar: when this song starts i’m like ok… i like everything about it… but then the chorus comes in and idk, something annoys me about the ‘watermelon sugar high’, i think it’s hyper metric so that doesn’t sit right w my ears, and then worst lyric ever goes to ‘i want your belly’… so overall it’s a meh from me. the breathe me in / out part sounds so lovely thoooo.
fave lyrics: baby you’re the end of june
6-/10
adore you: this is my fave out of the singles! it’s just boppy and cute, a feel good song. it doesn’t amaze me but i wouldn’t mind listening to it often bc it’s just a happy song and it’s sooo catchy, it’s the only single that truly got stuck in my head. it does sound like a zayn song – like, a lot – in some parts, which isn’t bad per se just… unexpected i guess?
fave lyrics: you don’t have to say you love me, i just wanna tell you something, lately you’ve been on my mind
7,5/10
lights up: at first this song disappointed me very much so idk if i can be completely objective on it, rehearing it i actually really like it… like maybe as a song it’s better than adore you but less catchy so i liked it way less at first? here too, major zayn vibes. it’s growing on me, although there’s still something that i’m not a fan of, idk what it is exactly… maybe the strophe?? i love the ‘shine’ part, not sold on the verse and ‘la da da’, but overall maybe listening to it again i like it better than adore you… it grew on me!
fave lyrics: it’d be so sweet if things just stayed the same
8/10
cherry: oh??? i almost didn’t recognise him, there’s a reverberation in the voice or something? i’m no expert so i’m sorry if i’m bullshitting, i’m just trying to describe what i hear. i feel like i like the music more than i like the words (not the words per se, although the songwriting is kind of childish here, tbh, but more like the delivery). i don’t like this… it’s boring and whiny. (also the ‘coucou’ as a background sound kind of irks me) but it’s a good song, maybe just not memorable or not my personal fave. the ending audio doesn’t make much sense to me bc it’s not something you say in like a voicemail, it’s something that requires a response like, as if he’d recorded a conversation and removed his own voice? or just kind of staged? but i like how the final word fades into music.
fave lyrics: i just miss your accent and your friends (let’s be real, the lyrics are so unimpressive, it was hard to pick a line).
5/10
falling: oh woooooooooow, i love the way his voice sounds without any effect on it… to me, the lyrics just hit deeper this way, but it’s also that the lyrics here are really something else! and the lyrics……. wow again. i’m loving it! it does that thing where it makes me sick to my stomach in a meaningful, beautiful way. oooh there’s a loooong high note too! nothing to add, this is perfect for me.
fave lyrics: [everything wtf. but especially] what if i’m someone you won’t talk about?
10+/10
to be so lonely: i wasn’t expecting where this was going when it started, very beatlesy, soothing sound and soothing voice! there’s something dreamy about it, the pre-chorus especially, that makes the chorus surprising. and then it’s insistent and like… gets groovier and groovier. veeeery beatles, definitely. i’m a fan!
fave lyrics: i’m just an arrogant son of a bitch who can’t admit when he’s sorry
8,5/10
she: oh i looove psychedelic rock!!!! my genreeeee! beatles again, and pink floyd of course as the most obvious influences. (i want you / she’s so heavy?? it reminds me of the lacrosse the universe version also). and i feel like pink floyd for something in the sound, but the whole thing like voice + sound is more beatles, the descriptive side to it… it reminds me of eleanor rigby like… the way the song makes me feel, kind of anxious in a way that’s not necessarily bad? it just makes me feel things. flexing w that instrumental!!!!! wow. i mean this is my jam, i also love the lyrics so it’s a big big yes from me, although i mean, not groundbreaking as in – it’s been done a lot over the 60s and 70s especially… which is why it’s not a ten, but still, great song.
fave lyrics: she lives in daydreams with me
9,5/10
sunflower, vol. 6: cute!!! the lyrics, the sound, the light falsetto part, the funkish beat! oooh and there’s some funky instrument that i’m too ignorant to define, but nice! maybe for my taste it’s kind of messy, i guess in a good way but also in a way that it’s not something i want to listen to a lot, i think? the hooting and howling in the end… interesting… not really my thing and the beatles did it in the 60s but like… cute.
fave lyrics: i’ve got your face hung up high in the gallery
6,5/10
canyon moon: this sounds too much like italian masterpiece ‘acqua azzurra, acqua chiara’ for me to take it completely seriously, but per se it’s quite nice to listen to, it feels almost country? i swear every time the guitar comes in i kinda lose it bc it’s just… sooo much alike, so i’m sorry i can’t really say more about it. cool lyrics and it’s a nice song!
fave lyrics: the world’s happy waiting
7-/10
treat people with kindness: ok this is……… i’m sorry but i’m cringing a bit (a lot). when he comes in it’s not bad, it’s just… the idea of making a song out of a slogan is not genius, to me, like, it’s bound to sound weird and inorganic i think?? i’m sorry, i’m trying to like it but i can’t, like there’s some nice screaming (all together now, just a little bit of kindness) and the gospel chorus per se is amazing but i can’t unhear the lyrics and overall it sounds a bit messy.
fave lyrics: and if we’re here long enough we’ll see it’s all for us and we’ll belong
3/10
fine line: i feel like this is a very fine (hehe) stylistic excercise, again, kind of psychedelic, lots going on w the music, lots of falsetto and some powerful lyrics, but somehow i get distracted while listening to it… kind of (very) boring? especially w how long it is, i guess it aims to make a statement but if so idk, i expected some powerful change throughout? a bridge or something? the mind wanders as you listen to it, one of my least faves for sure.
fave lyrics (these are impressive tho!!): put a price on emotion, i’m looking for something to buy, you’ve got my devotion but man, i can hate you sometimes
5-/10
thank you so much for asking! i do these for myself and like the few friends that care bc i find it interesting and ‘challenging’ to put my thoughts down and grade stuff but also a relaxing pastime at the same time. let me know what you think of course if you want♡

There has been a lot of trash on this internet lately regarding "cyberpunk" as a genre and such. I have been silent not for a lack of things to say, but more to avoid an unhealthy relationship with online outrage. (a thread to follow)
— Everywhere I eat is a drive through now. (@CommutingCrow) June 19, 2019
There are alternatives to the vapid, clumsy, and frankly out-dated takes on the genre we are seeing. There are good TTRPGs made by various lovely designers. I am not dragging them here. But I have a weird pick for my current fav in this realm, that needs some explaining.
— Everywhere I eat is a drive through now. (@CommutingCrow) June 19, 2019
Surprise! It's Blades in the Dark. Which does a better job of tackling most of the themes that cyberpunk is ostensibly about than a lot of media that slavishly (and shallowly) tries to reproduce neuromancer/bladerunner.
— Everywhere I eat is a drive through now. (@CommutingCrow) June 19, 2019
There has been a wave lately of good cyber RPGs that go after some more specific niches, and my pick of blades is about it being the best for the core theme of low status characters, who use the tools of the establishment against itself
— Everywhere I eat is a drive through now. (@CommutingCrow) June 19, 2019
Blades is like, mercantile-era cyberpunk. The aesthetics aren't even that far off if we consider elements like hulls, the weird tech, the ghost field. The game has hacking, though in an analogue format with tinker. The good shit is all there.
— Everywhere I eat is a drive through now. (@CommutingCrow) June 19, 2019
We even get some good transhumanism by way of ghosts/hulls/vampires, that also feeds back to our theme of a wealthy oppressive establishment and its tools.
— Everywhere I eat is a drive through now. (@CommutingCrow) June 19, 2019
Lord Skurlok is a wealthy man who used that wealth and access to change his body so that he could live forever. (well actually, so he could permanently pilot someone else's body, maybe? idk) In blades we have families instead of corporations, but they are functionally brands
— Everywhere I eat is a drive through now. (@CommutingCrow) June 19, 2019
The setting is absolutely covering all the same ground as cyberpunk media. An overcrowded capitalist dystopia. A surveillance state, in which you are not allowed to die without the feds incinerating your corpse. Folks' bodies are destroyed working to serve and profit the wealthy
— Everywhere I eat is a drive through now. (@CommutingCrow) June 19, 2019
Whereas a certain video game takes the opposite approach, of having the aesthetics associated with the genre (kind of) but leaves behind all the actual guts of it, in terms of themes, characterization, etc etc ad nauseum
— Everywhere I eat is a drive through now. (@CommutingCrow) June 19, 2019
Also, I hear some of you saying "But Andrew, blades is steampunk" to which I reply I don't even know what a steam punk is.
— Everywhere I eat is a drive through now. (@CommutingCrow) June 19, 2019
but now that @john_harper is watching, I should come to some sort of point.
— Everywhere I eat is a drive through now. (@CommutingCrow) June 19, 2019
I think it is very important to be able to read media with a critical eye. To parse it in terms of what it is saying, both on its face, and in how it uses the language of its medium (film, TTRPG, whatever) to deliver its ideas. To make its statement.
— Everywhere I eat is a drive through now. (@CommutingCrow) June 19, 2019
Genre is not simply a set of aesthetics, full stop. It is aesthetics with a direction, an impetus. Lots of folks like to forget the reason behind the aesthetic choices, and just sort of, eat and regurgitate them unthinkingly.
— Everywhere I eat is a drive through now. (@CommutingCrow) June 19, 2019
And while cool cyber arms and whatnot are tasty tasty aesthetics that I enjoy snacking upon, when there's no guts to the work, they are tasty but unfulfilling.
— Everywhere I eat is a drive through now. (@CommutingCrow) June 19, 2019
So I submit that blades is cyberpunk. More cyberpunk than a lot of stuff that lays claim to that title. I invite you to look at genre as a set of aesthetics AND themes. I invite you to look at genre playfully, and not dogmatically.
— Everywhere I eat is a drive through now. (@CommutingCrow) June 19, 2019
Tampopo is a western with no guns (well, there's a Gun, but...) or horses, but it is absolutely a western. The big Lebowski is a noir movie, right down to the washed up dirtbag male lead.
— Everywhere I eat is a drive through now. (@CommutingCrow) June 19, 2019
I very strongly feel that it is valuable and important to be critical of art/media. It is lovely if one can find the time/energy/resources to develop literacy in those things, and apply it.
— Everywhere I eat is a drive through now. (@CommutingCrow) June 19, 2019
Be the most savvy and discerning media consumer that you can, so you don't accidentally eat garbage. If you must eat garbage, do so knowingly, I guess. Some of y'all really like eating garbage?
— Everywhere I eat is a drive through now. (@CommutingCrow) June 19, 2019
Also Duskvol isn't London, it's fucking Baltimore, or Philidelphia, or Chicago. It's the nightmare of american industrialism and capitalism as described in The Jungle. (which is a socialist pamphlet, basically)
— Everywhere I eat is a drive through now. (@CommutingCrow) June 19, 2019
The above is relevant because cyberpunk is grounded in the same fucking problems we have had for like 200+ years? Rich people, and the systems of power that build and protect their wealth, are monstrous. They degrade and consume us.
— Everywhere I eat is a drive through now. (@CommutingCrow) June 19, 2019
And like, to clarify further. Aesthetics say stuff on their own, yeah, and that means you can't tack whatever idea you want onto a given aesthetic consistently. When you are making a cyber-punk game but talking about purity of bodies and shit, you have made a mess.
— Everywhere I eat is a drive through now. (@CommutingCrow) June 19, 2019
The aesthetics don't line up with the other content of the work. It's discordant. The thing that bums me out isn't the folks making the thing, it's the rabid and un-examined gobbling up of it.
— Everywhere I eat is a drive through now. (@CommutingCrow) June 19, 2019
If I had more time I would make a video essay talking about how, through what it is saying with the language of composition, colour etc. that notorious poster is exploitative crap. Said video essay would do the same with the language of cinema wrt 'fat thor'

Ok I agree with your points to that anon, but you can’t look at the others and compare them to Louis when they seem to be different artists. Louis seems to prioritize perfecting his album in lieu of being public whereas Niam, especially liam like to go overboard with promo. Liam also has had 2 songs out since the beginning of the year so he has more incentive to do performances whereas Louis only had MY that his label and him seemed to scrap in place of getting the album done. Also 1)
Zayn was in the middle of a promo rollout when he was dropped/left his management team. It does happen and if I remember correctly Louis actually switched labels a week or two before Back To You was released. We’re also going off of an unknown album date so for all we know the album could be dropping end of the year/next year and the rollout might start later this year. Idk just wanted to add a second opinion. 2)-end
i don’t even know where to start with this. like i said people can be as optimistic as they want, but i don’t need your second opinion when it has no basis in what we’re seeing. you people think i’m drawing conclusions based on nothing? i’m drawing conclusions based on past events. and you seem to have a completely different idea of how this shit works, putting a whole lot of decision making at louis’ feet.
“they seem to be different artists” as in… louis is the kind of artists who doesn’t need promo? doesn’t need brand building? literally what are you even talking about? even indie artists get promo. here’s a story: last year i had peak solo louis optimism. because of his connection with high snobiety and noisey i figured OK–they are going the “indie” route. i adjusted my expectations in my head, no jingle ball and big radio bashes in sight, and i figured then he’d be doing lots of festivals this year–not radio ones, but stuff like governor’s ball, lolla, osheaga etc. the stuff that appeals to that crowd. maybe he’d be talked up to stereogum which is the arbiter of indie taste. he could do kexp live lounge etc. what did we get? nothing. and as someone who does frequent lots of indie sites let me tell you he’s not even on their radar, and if he is it’s not in a positive light.
liam has had two more songs out… is the exact point. he’s getting to release his music. and i don’t know how you’re just brushing aside the fact that MY was completely abandoned? that’s not normal. you don’t scrap a single in order to get the album done? additionally you’re forgetting that niall promoed TT for months. he then promoed SH for months and did festivals with just TT and SH under his belt. there’s absolutely not logical reason for louis to be out of the spotlight. and you seem to think louis…. decided to stop promoting MY? like i’m sorry but you’re putting so much onus on him in all of this when he’s not the one pulling the strings. they spent so much energy promoting its debut on TXF only to drop it immediately – almost like it was only TXF promo.
i didn’t say that no artists change teams mid-rollout, i said it’s a bad sign. and how well have things worked out for zayn exactly? how much promo is he doing? right. management contracts are quite rigid and are typically on year terms, which means louis dropped them because he didn’t want to renew for another year or two because he knows how shit they’ve been (which should indicate that he is in fact not happy with how his career has been handled so far, which punches a hole in your theory that he’s just a ‘different artist’ who doesn’t want to ‘overboard’). i am very cautiously optimistic about what a new management might entail. but as i’ve said, we’ve been burned before. really, really badly. so no, i’m not going to sit here and say everything is now under control when we’ve literally not seen any indication that things have changed for the better just yet.
as for unknown dates–louis said the album was coming in the first half of the year. that’s by the end of june. i really fucking hope that’s not when the album is actually coming because the lack of lead up is criminal and will be used to push the idea that he’s a failure. and to clarify– i don’t think he is one. i think he has the potential to do so much. but that’s not how he’s being treated or reported on.
and no, he didn’t change labels. he was reported as being distributed by RCA in the US, that was corrected to say he was actually with epic. they are both sony subsidiaries. i believe epic is the smaller of the two labels, so if you wanna be really pessimistic i’d say sony told RCA “here you go” and they were like, “nah” so they had to shuffle him over to epic who has shown zero interest in supporting him. it’s been a nonstop waiting game. epic prioritized camila we said, “okay maybe once her album is out they’re going to give louis some focus.” didn’t happen. we won him the best solo breakout award over her, hoping that would jolt them into paying some attention to him, didn’t happen. now they’re putting all their juice in meghan trainor. syco are too busy praising harry to even know a louis and also promoting their new boyband that’s supposed to replace 1d. they don’t care about him.
considering everything that’s going on i don’t think i or anyone else can be blamed for being worried. the only thing that will reassure me is an actual change in direction and promo. not your rose coloured interpretation of events.the reality is what mika has said, and what i’ve been saying from the start: “Am I going to be in the top seven global priorities at my record company? Because if you’re not, you have to face up to that – and find other ways to get what you need to promote your career.” louis is not one of the priorities at his label. he isn’t. and maybe, hopefully his new management will help him to stay relevant and accomplish something in spite of syco/epic and can secure him a deal with a label that will prioritize him later. but we don’t know that that’s going to happen. and i don’t do blind faith or blind trust anymore. i’m still completely devastated about how wrong i was about so many things. i still cry when i think about how different i thought this “hiatus” was going to turn out. i cannot afford to be optimistic again and be crushed again.
so please. go be optimistic somewhere else. i’m waiting for concrete proof that things have changed.
