yeah im not fully over this. does anybody who was there at the time remember all the jokes about clearsight being a slut/hoe/whore? like that was weird right.
to be fair i think it was partially due to the unfortunate implication from tui that clearsight somehow founded an ENTIRE SEPARATE SPECIES. in the span of 2000 years. which is still insane and idk if that ever got thoroughly explained or not.
But also some of it was probably just because she left darkstalker (ran away from her abuser for her safety) and fell in love with another guy (eventually) and children especially in fandom spaces are like really weird about like, divorce or second loves. you see this in warriors too with like, graystripe and silverstream vs millie. a lot of people dont really understand that you can love somebody fully and they can die/leave and you can then love somebody else fully. they think youre only allowed to love one person ever and if you split up then you werent ever even really in love after all. which is obviously just not true. And thats not even getting into again the fact that darkstalker was AWFUL and they werent even like married or anything anyways
Also idk if it was meme culture in general or just MY specific meme ecosystem on wings of fire instagram but i think part of it is that it just so happened to coincide with the memeification of terms like "hoe" and "thot". thot was huuuge everybody called eachother thots. i dont know why we were all like 12-14.
but anyways yeah just very weird. Idk how to feel other than that because like slut-shaming is bad obvs but also slut-shaming a fictional dragon character isnt a huge deal at the end of the day. I'm moreso worried about these kids going around slut-shaming irl people because they saw their friends do it online to this dragon character but also, this was like ?2018??? and i dont think most of them really meant it like that. like 80% of them probably just meant to poke fun at the aforementioned insane worldbuilding with the hivewing origin story. what does worry me is the 20% that are just darkstalker apologists but again, this was a while ago and we were mostly just idiot kids making stupid jokes.

these are literally some of the dumbest tags ive ever seen. like. there’s SO much here that’s untrue, including the empathy part. “love couldnt have fixed him as a child” have you considered he didnt need to be fixed??? Did you even watch the show???? Love would have ABSOLUTELY helped him, and he didn’t need to be fixed.
like i shouldnt be surprised that people on here are Siding On The Side Of Child Abuse but… and just like god there’s so many Factual Errors here, shitty and cruel attitude aside. “torturing animals for fun” and the kid in question looks distressed the whole time & a bunch of parallels indicate that he was trying to free the rabbit, but god forbid we look beneath our first surface impressions, right?
and also, the whole “before the lab” thing makes me insane because it acts like everything in his life was fine prior to the lab. meanwhile, he talks about how he was treated as being broken PRIOR to the lab and how his mother despised him PRIOR to the lab and how she wanted to send him away to an abusive predator scientist PRIOR to the lab and that’s just the surface level shit let alone all of the subtext about what his life was like pre-lab.
and not only is it impossible for him to have been trancing victor and killing slice at the same time & theres so much weirdness there, even if he straight up murdered virginia and alice got killed as part of it, it’s not like it happened because He’s Inherently Bad And Evil. I think he was in the right to kill virginia!!!!! Like sorry but wanting to send him away to Brenner????? She had it coming. Alice didn’t, but again, there’s so much weirdness around that AND even if he did kill her, the whole thing could have been prevented if people (Virginia) weren’t trying to send him off to the lab/fix him.
Like it’s insane to me that people will watch Dart’s arc about how creatures from the UD aren’t inherently evil and how Dustin’s love made a huge impact on Dart and yet will also go “oh yep mhm the duffers wrote this Literal Human Child to be Evil and Bad and Broken and he Needs To Be Fixed but hes so broken that not even love can fix him”.
Like. Op is the one with the real lack of empathy here & I sure hope they don’t extend this viewpoint to the abused and autistic kids/people in their life. I don’t feel bad calling the tags dumb because they ARE dumb and literally factually inaccurate and they’re cruel and contributing to the stigma around people who are low empathy (and henry isn’t even low empathy).

More questions on Tegan & Lucky!
What sort of media would Lucky be interested in?
What sort of books and journals are in Tegan's collection?
What bike did Tegan have and what is Lucky's? How did Lucky get his?
What are Tegan's associates doing about Lucky being around instead of him?
Whether for his curiosity of meeting new people and places or distancing himself from Tegan's social circles, would Lucky consider moving somewhere else?
Since Lucky is still legally seen as Tegan, would he get his name changed?
Since Tegan is the king of street racing, would it be fitting that he also has an unbeatable skeeball highscore in every arcade he's been to?
i was going to open this answer by going "well it's your lucky day" but i just made myself cringe with it lol
it is time for boy lore!
What sort of media would Lucky be interested in?
I think he likes weird mixed-media and self-published stuff, honestly. Audio dramas, video essays. Things he can put on while he’s on the road or stretched out watching the clouds. Reading is nice, too, but he focuses best when he's just gotten up and isn't moving yet.
He likes a classic slasher from time to time, too, but only with other people. Corn-syrup blood and cheesy practical effects are just kind of better enjoyed together.
What sort of books and journals are in Tegan's collection?
Make no mistake, Tegan was a NERD. Aeronautical anthologies, astronomy texts, those weird Barnes & Noble historical coffee table selections. Poetry, like a lot of poetry. Tegan's very much a Yeats boy, although he was also fond of Rilke and Rimbaud. There’s also, like, a few dusty language textbooks, the sort that you buy on a kick and never get around to actually studying. And he wrote a lot. Memo pads and leatherbound Walgreens journals, that sort of thing. Crack one of those suckers open and you get a free tongue-in-cheek existential crisis in mechanical pencil, 'cause that's what he had on tap 80% of the time.
What bike did Tegan have and what is Lucky's? How did Lucky get his?
Tegan had a 2012 BMW F800ST! Torquey and balanced and really well cared for. Midnight blue with some subtle yellow and white accents, little bit of a Van Gogh homage (nerd).
Of course, Janus had mixed feelings on the whole racing thing, but he also recognizing that having a motorcycle was an integral part of his brother’s identity, so he arranged for a replacement — a Sprint 1050. They are both sort of sharp in the front, and honestly, like, a bike is a bike. Only thing is that a bike is not a bike, and so while Lucky does get things done with the Sprint, it’s a little bit too finicky for his taste. He ends up trading with another local bike enthusiast for something a little more his style, and that — a Yamaha FJR1300 — ends up being his trademark bike. He gets it done up in his colors and everything. :)
What are Tegan's associates doing about Lucky being around instead of him?
Aside from the fact that he just isn’t around as much as they’re used to, I think that most of his acquaintances are just convinced that Tegan sort of got scared off the scene by the crash. First one of his career, right? And bad enough to take him off the map for months. I think that what strikes them as the strangest is the way that he just doesn’t seem to engage in the racing game at all anymore — he just seems to be a full-time courier, now.
When they ask, though, he’s genial. Maybe a little vague. Something's ever so slightly off about him. It’s weird, but who wouldn’t be? The crash was pretty bad. I’m still sorting everything out. Everyone doing okay? Nothing like an NDE to really mellow someone out. He’s still welcome, though, and sometimes he takes people up on invitations on the town, but the atmosphere’s a little different now that Holloway doesn’t step up and dazzle whole rooms like he used to.
Tegan’s best friend is canny enough and close enough that she knows what Lucky’s deal is — anyway, she’s been busy in the interim with trying to suss out what got him killed in the first place. How is she coping with the recent development that the bestie has been format wiped and now perceives way more and also way less than she is comfortable with? Uh. Really well. Don't ask her any more questions.
Whether for his curiosity of meeting new people and places or distancing himself from Tegan's social circles, would Lucky consider moving somewhere else?
Lucky would love traveling, I can tell you that much. You know those people who will tour from one coast to another with a backpack and their bike? That's right up his alley.
As far as leaving permanently, though, Lucky is a creature of sentiment. He's got ties to the city, inherited though they were, and once he starts making them his own, it'll get that much harder to actually leave it behind.
He is going touring though. Someday.
Since Lucky is still legally seen as Tegan, would he get his name changed?
Maybe after enough time’s passed. Feels disrespectful to immediately start over, you know? I think a part of Lucky seeks to understand who Tegan was, and it might just be sentimentality, but wearing the name feels like a part of that, almost? You wear the name, you read the journals, you find the person still lingering in the apartment, the idle nail-carvings on the end table, the weighted blankets and sleep playlists.
In the end, if he gets too used to it, he might just start telling people that he is Lucky, yeah, but he was named after a brother who passed away. Maybe Tegan would be amused.
Since Tegan is the king of street racing, would it be fitting that he also has an unbeatable skeeball highscore in every arcade he's been to
YES. Is it anywhere near as prestigious? Absolutely not, but it's fun to see the neighborhood teens placing bets to see who can beat him.
Did Tegan have any tattoos? If so, what where they and what meaning did it have to him?
He’s got a simple one stretching horizontally above his shoulder blades, the phases of the moon. He would’ve had more, but he had too many ideas for them and often sketched down concepts in his journals and never actually committed to them. Lots of thought went into maybe getting a line or two from poems he liked inked, but he never got the chance.
If Tegan did have tattoos, would Lucky be interested in getting one as well?
The first tattoo Lucky gets might be for Tegan. Some poem on his bicep or chest. But in you is the presence that / will be, when all the stars are dead, maybe. A lonely impulse of delight / drove to thus tumult in the clouds. That one will take some thought.
Other than that, maybe a spade? Is that too on the nose?

Hi I'm gonna rant about Apothecary Diaries and how much I hate it again because Youtube won't stop reccing me videos of it and I have to keep staring at the thumbnails while I wait for my sub page to load. So I keep thinking. And spiralling.
Also straight up like 75% of my problem with Apothecary Diaries is that Jinshi is not a fucking eunuch.
It's like the basis of him being in the harem area. Not only is it a massive fuck you to everything about harem but like? It's solely so that he, the love interest, has a cock he can stick in Maomao? It's because he's the male love interest. That's it.
If he was actually a eunuch it might be an interesting take on the romance. As it stands, it's the most boring, cookie cutter, snark-snark woman in a subservient position but doesn't act like it, heterosexual relationship ever. It reminds me of 10,000 other romances that have done it better and with more interesting men.
And god I just. It's so frustrating because Jinshi is the only part of this show that I dislike! The rest of the show has fascinating themes and moral quandries and characters. And then there's Jinshi. Trying to fuck Maomao. And being creepy. And being in the harem area despite not being a eunuch and clearly having a sexual desire for Maomao. Which, again, rules. Where are the rules. Why does this rule not fucking matter.
Why does the worldbuilding of this series build up everything so nicely and so perfectly and then Jinshi comes in and none of it applies to him? It's not even well written in the narrative. He just sucks. He can do whatever he wants. Whenever he wants. And there's no fucking consequences. Ever.
Oh no Maomao thinks he's ugly.
Big fucking whoop this guy could hold her down and assault her and he wouldn't get in trouble.
I just. I cannot get over how much Jinshi sucks. How much his character is awful. How the story just completely ignores all the ways he breaks it and its rules and just goes "lalalalala" and keeps going.
Everything about Jinshi sucks. He breaks every rule. He is creepy. He abuses his power. He's not actually supposed to be in the fucking harem. And in the end it's SURPRISE! He's got a functional cock! So he can FUCK YOU ANYWAY!
Honestly it seems to me like the creator just. Fell in love with Jinshi and stopped caring about logic.
And I STILL can't get over the BAIT AND SWITCH and the eunuch thing. Like of COURSE the ONE THING that makes this not a typical power-struggle snark-snark-kiss anime relationship isn't even fucking REAL.
God I fucking hate this series.
