its so awkward when youre trans and theres an incredibly common headcanon in your fandom where... youre trans! but the opposite way. cant even filter out the tags because they use the same name as canon me so ill occasionally get jumpscared by art of me with tits. i dont wanna see that shit. and like, its cool if you headcanon that or if that was your canon, good for you, theres nothing wrong with that. but like. man. seeing myself get referred to as a she...not fun. and for me specifically theres this whole argument about how getting over toxic masculinity was a big part of my arc and that automatically means im transfem? uh...no? im still a guy. its just that since im a trans guy, my brother saw me as a guy, and i still got that toxic shit pushed on me. that doesnt automatically make me a girl. just let me be a stupid orange bird boy without getting "um actually shes a girl" pushed on me (again no hate to anyone who likes these headcanons or has this as their canon. youre cool. just makes me dysphoric)

Me seeing people think shows get canceled because of a bisexual internet critic.

That’s not how any media works man. Money does.

Crunchyroll deciding their investment in RWBY wasn’t worth another season since a lot of people decided to pirate after the abuse came out is a far more tangible reason. No one cares about a show’s quality they care if it makes money. And if s10 can’t get green lit it’s because it can’t do that in the eyes of people who have it.

Every fandom has videos criticizing them. It’s part of the fandom experience. Why is this fandom so paper thin that they think one video can destroy a series?

As an aro (and potentially ace) person, and an Internet veteran since Rage comics, "Forever alone" captions and Nyan cat were still new and funny, I'm putting my take on this.

You cannot stop the Internet from doing whatever it wants to fictional characters. Period. The Hazbin Hotel fandom is no exception.

Back then, 4chan made this thing called "The Rules of the Internet" if I remember correctly. Its definitely a joke, since its way too long. However, there's some truth to it, such as the Rule 34 of that chart. It says

"If it exists, there's porn of it. No exceptions."

Everything, from living things to non-living, there will be sexual content of it in the Internet.

So it's absurd to try to control an entire fandom to adhere to things, even the creators themselves can't and all they can do is tell their fandoms to behave.

It's not surprising for me when I see fans ship/make smut of an aroace person. I have already seen queer identities of fictional characters being undermined by fandoms all the time, so at this point this is just fandom doing what fandom does.

Nevertheless, giving the ability to erase fictional queer identities to fans is stupid if you think about it. If fandom has such ability, then every single fictional queer identity since the dawn of humanity has been erased, as we know there are queerphobic fans.

In my opinion, I will give this ability to the creators of the Media. Like I said, you can't control fans, all we can to do is tell them what they're doing is wrong, and hope some fans will listen. Creators, however, can actually change the character's identity. They're the ones who created these characters after all.

If Alastor's aroace identity ended up being changed by Vivzie herself, this is where its applicable to say that AroAce/Queer erasure is happening.

Here's a note, though: Aroace is a spectrum, please don't assume that every person on the aroace spectrum is romance/sex repulsed. Sure, Alastor is, but doesn't mean other aroace characters are. This is a reminder to allos.

So in conclusion: You can't stop fandoms from doing their thing, even if you are the creator. Fortunately, though, people tend to only believe attributes of a character if the creator is the one giving such attributes. So you can rest assured that the character identity will (or may) stay.

TW - child neglect, lack of hygiene as result of neglect

I think a lot of spider haters are either A. people who have never experienced neglect, especially physical neglect B. people who have internalized and denied themselves the space to heal/acknowledge their neglect and/or its effects C. neglecters themselves.

I say this because spider shows one of the clearest signs of physical and emotional neglect; lack of hygiene and cleanliness, and its one of the things he is mocked for the most.

now, I'm coming from the perspective of a kid who was neglected in that way, as a person who didn't know you needed to use a wash clothe, how to properly wash their hair, and other 'basic' hygiene knowledge until they were 15 or 16 years old.

spider was clearly not family to the sully's so I find it hard to believe they bathed him or even taught him to bathe. the scientists would most likely expect his 'family' to teach him that, and decided to leave those 'intimate' and 'personal' conversations to them.

children, humans in general, do not have the modern-day standards of hygiene ingrained in them; it is not an instinct, it is learned, it is taught.

so if he has no one who is willing to not only teach him, but show him, he will not have those skills. you can't expect him to have those skills. that's truly and honestly unfair, and so disheartening as someone who has suffered that effect of neglect, to see an entire fandom so keen on making that the butt of their jokes.

then you throw on the fact that he never chose, or at the very least, never made an educated decision (considering we first see his hair locked as a toddler/small child) to have his hair locked. locs need to be cared for in a very specific manner to be kept clean and healthy (and that's on the proper hair type, spider's hair in all honesty, is just matted, and can never properly be cleaned).

so this kid who doesn't even know the basics of hygiene, is now saddled with the responsibility of taking care of locs/glorified mats. of course the kid looks like a wreck, he literally doesn't know how to take care of himself, and mimicking what little you see of proper hygiene doesn't do much for very long.

the poor thing is suffering; I don't know if some of y'all know this, but feeling perpetually dirty, even when trying your best to keep clean, is exhausting and soul-crushing.

that boy has suffered on every level and far too many poke at it like its some joke.

Do you think the Maribat fandom has any problems?

Of course it does. All fandoms have their own issues. It’s to be expected really.

But that doesn’t automatically mean the fandom is “bad”.

There are bound to be toxic people in the fandom, that’s just life. But it be such a waste to only focus on them.

Rather, within our server, we like to focus on how to better the fandom and make it more inclusive, improve events, focus on small creators rather than give all the attention to big names, and give our members a voice.

So maybe the fandom does have problems, but we work to fix them and create a place that allows you to escape from them and fix them.
