TADC cast x supportive!reader (platonic)

except its hyper specific and applies to my oc specifically because i need a little pick me up today reader is like the circus members anchor as well as a generally serving as a support system and has been in the circus for a while. havent decided on how long but definitely getting close to kinger in terms of how long theyve been stuck. kind of gives off dad energy have not shared the oc here on this blog but i have shared them elsewhere, wont say where because im embarrassed </3 this was originally gonna be a ship chart dynamic but im too tired to draw everyone plus this feels more fun using 'you/your' pronouns for the reader even though its an oc so you guys can at least like, insert yourself REMINDER requests are closed, this is a personal request from myself. any requests sent now will not be answered even after they reopen. please respect that and understand that requests are closed

CAINE:

saved caine for last (yes i know hes the first one in the list hush i dont actually write these in order) i think you and him would have friendly back and forth banter. youve accepted your place in the digital circus long ago so you dont see much point in trying to interrogate him for information on a possible exit. and sure, i dont know if caine can abstract, but i think he enjoys the conversations between the two of you... that said, given how accepting you are with everything as well as having a "roll with it" outlook on the digital world, he probably uses you as plot stuff and props for IHA; be it as a false hostage or as a means to progress the adventure... definitely has a soft spot for you, i think... jax and bubble have a dark bet on when you will finally abstract/j

RAGATHA:

ah yes the optimistic duo, the hopeful pals, the sillies. you two are probably the main reason why everyone else is... mostly... fine, i mean i think having someone be so friendly and open cane make things a little easier for other people. as well as this you two mutually lean on each other for support and uplift one another when things get tough. i mention it in kingers part, but you too are also afraid of bugs but you would help ragatha clear her room of centipedes in a heartbeat, even going as far as to collect them with your bare hands.. so uh... take that as a testament to yalls friendship

JAX:

now im a little stumped on this one because i really dont think the "reader" would be buddy buddy with jax... or maybe they would be... hmm.. on one hand i can see them scolding him for pushing his pranks 'too far' (ex. the ragatha centipede thing, assuming he actually did it), but i can also see a "supportive figure and rebellious kid" dynamic. except jax isnt a kid but you are old enough be his dad, probably.. i think ill just leave that here since i dont have any other ideas

POMNI:

youve been here for a while, so i think naturally pomni would gravitate towards you in order for possible solutions and escape routes, perhaps she would approach kinger, too... but this isnt about kinger </3. fine line between outright shattering their hope but also instilling it, neither are great options... one can lead to despair and the other to obsession; both will lead to abstraction... but theres also the fact none of your past attempts at escape had been successful, nor did you ever find any leads. as for actual potential friendship i think you would take the same route as ragatha in the pilot; show her around and explain things to her in a fairly digestible way. as well as this you tend to gravitate towards her during her first IHA until she gets the hang of them; typically making sure she doesnt get lost or hurt, as well as giving her pointers that could help with the task at hand

KINGER:

writing kinger first, you guys are like the dads of the circus. you more so because you still have a decent hold of yourself. you were there when queener/queenie abstracted, and you were there for kinger during the still on going grieving process. as for actually friendship ideas, you two just sit and talk to one another. thats it, really. i could go on about all the things you two do together, and i probably would since kinger is my favorite and this post is literally about my oc... but i truly dont see these two getting up to anything insane outside of IHA. kinger needs someone to help him fill the silence, and you would be there. and vice versa, i think... bonus, you dont like bugs but you still grin and bare it while listening to kinger rattle on about his cool bug facts... i think that would be nice..

ZOOBLE:

optimistic dad who likes fishing and moody teen who bullies kids on roblox. thats literally the dynamic, except again, zooble is an adult and the reader has no kids... but hey its the same energy. tries to get zooble to engage with IHA but not in a pushy way but more in like... an inviting them to pair with them for comfort and security kind of way. sure you understand that they dont like them because theyre just so over everything but you want them to be included, especially since the IHA are meant to stimulate your minds and keep you guys grounded

GANGLE:

honestly i think you just adopt half of the cast at this point, the only people who arent your kids are ragatha caine and kinger... everyone else gets passed around in split custody/j now onto gangle, you probably try to give her peptalks to make her feel better as well as fixing her comedy mask anytime it breaks. as well as this i think you and her sit down and do arts n crafts together, perhaps even making new masks altogether... i like to think gangle hears a few... things about the others and knows things since shes so quiet and in the background so theres definitely some 'gossip' between the two of you... but not in a shit talking way, no i dont think either of you are like that, rather more so just talking about the others

BONUS STUFF:

you call gangle, zooble, jax, and pomni generic 'dad nicknames' so like. think sport, champ, bud, pal. stuff like that, with varying reactions... i think gangle wouldnt fight it and actually appreciates it. zooble scoffs and rolls their eyes, jax plays into it while loudly and obnoxiously calling you dad. (whenever you ask him to do something he loudly goes like "okay DAAAAAAD" before likely not doing the thing that was asked of him), pomni is just confused really since shes not all that used to it. huh. guess youre a dad of 4 now

you and ragatha tend to clean up after the others, leaving you two alone and you guys just. talk as you clean. probably do impressions of the others in a really comical and dramatic as well as exchanging stories

you and kinger hunt for new pillows to add to his fort. you try to coax him into stepping out of the tent and explore the grounds, so far you're unsuccessful

touching on the gossip thing from gangles part caine probably tries to ask you for some "juicy drama" about the others. who is having issues with her, whos crushing on who, stuff like that... i think caine would try to play matchmaker if there actually is someone who has a crush on someone else... this goes for the current cast as well as those who have come and gone from the digital circus (cough cough abstracted)

the analysis on aziraphale that exactly one person asked for✨ and that i churned out at a speed that surprised even me, but i wanted to get it out without having seen s2 on 26th/28th and therefore being influenced in any way with further aziraphale content...

anyway, i said in an ask that i find aziraphale really challenging and emotional to analyse but by god am i going to do my best✨ (im not sure when exactly i gained the emerging reputation for calling out two of my favourite literary characters, but we move-)

aziraphale has a real big issue with faith, misplacing that faith, and turning that faith into idolising certain things. now the obvious one is the blind, naive faith in heaven. there's also arguably, at times, issues with his faith in humanity, in that his faith was placed elsewhere (see above re: heaven). but lastly, he also has an issue with his faith in crowley. ive waxed lyrical on the last one already, but didn't really delve into the effect that this has directly on crowley, so let's touch in this a little now.

similarly to what i feel about crowley, i think that whilst aziraphale has a more natural affinity for kindness and compassion, im not entirely convinced that he is inherently a good person - certainly not in the show, in any case.

he is however certainly more 'good' than the majority of his kin. and not all of that is due to his literal being an angel, because we know first hand that being angelic is not synonymous with good. we know that other angels actively distort the perception of their association with 'good' (michael when talking to ligur, "of course you can trust me... im an angel!") to benefit themselves. ultimately, the literal antithesis of altruism, and so it can't be the case that aziraphale has propensity for good just because he's an angel.

as far as we are aware, he has had the relatively same experiences, on earth particularly, as crowley. the only notable exception to this is the fall, which obviously aziraphale did not go through. crowley comes out of the fall, in my opinion, very much stuck at that point in time, and hasn't truly moved on or grown from it, mentally or emotionally. so all of his experiences through the next 6000 years have been endured whilst he's still in this almost childlike mindset. this mindset might be due to (if we're applying human emotional concepts here) abandonment trauma, and a part of me agrees, but i think its predominantly out of bitterness, resentment, and possibly even arrogance and plain denial.

aziraphale however did not go through the fall, and therefore when we see him skipping through time and into the present day (s1 era), he still holds a stake of faith in heaven and its machinations. however, what sets him apart from the other angels is that he has had experiences that they have not, by virtue of being on earth and experiencing first- and second-hand the repurcussions that heaven's games have on humanity... the community that aziraphale is now essentially exiled to be a part of. part of what aziraphale has learnt, i think (and was pointed out very succinctly by the Longwinded Anon✨ in a previous ask - now officially their name), is literally how to learn from error.

aziraphale's faith in heaven gets torn down when he realises that they are choosing to retcon humanity just to be able to prove to hell that they are superior. this is something that aziraphale ultimately perpetuated in his compliancy and inaction where heaven's overall agenda is concerned, but also in his blind faith that heaven surely wouldn't want the earth destroyed, god's ultimate creation... surely not? well, that proves to be the case, and aziraphale finally twigs that heaven was not a Good Place. it was his error - his blind faith in and subservience to heaven - but he learns from it.

his faith in humanity is still a work in progress for most of s1, in that he has one foot in thinking that they are capable of great things, but also one foot out because he knows that they have capacity to wreak utter horror and terror all by themselves (just as crowley remarks time and time again). however, he has his growth moment where this is concerned, in the form of accepting that humanity is truly a mix of both good and evil, and that without one, humanity cannot truly be defined as the other. he expresses this revelation to adam during the timestop; that adam is human incarnate by being neither good nor evil, but perhaps a mix of both. it feels like an apology, an apology that could be interpreted as one aziraphale is giving to all of humankind. he's apologising for not committing to his faith in them. it was an error - but he learns from it.

but what about crowley? well, as already agonised over, he goes so far in having faith in crowley that, in my opinion, he's built crowley in his mind to be someone else entirely, and yet somehow exactly who crowley is. aziraphale knows that crowley is altogether a bit of a bastard (understatement, frankly), but he trusts that crowley will always know what the right - good - thing to do is. is this misguided, misplaced? yes, i think it is. and i think crowley knows this, at least on some level, and again in his arrogance takes advantage of this.

but what effect does aziraphale's faith have on crowley? well, i don't necessarily think it has a detrimental effect on him, because i think it ultimately benefits crowley - who, again, in his childlike mindset still, has someone who believes in him and will follow him and want to know him. id even say that crowley, faced with the prospect that one wrong move he could end up truly alone, will peversely do some pretty questionable things to keep this. a specific highlight being the tempting aziraphale to kill warlock; if he were truly trusting in aziraphale, i think he'd actually ask and explain why he needs aziraphale to do it instead of him. instead, he tries to tempt him into it and giving him quite underhanded rationalisations as to why it's necessary. this comes to a head at the bandstand when aziraphale flips this on its head, and suggests that given that he's an angel, and crowley is a demon, it should be crowley that does it.

this is where i come to the point where i think aziraphale fails as a friend and possibly is equally damaging to crowley as vice versa; he holds his status as an angel over crowley's head. he remarks pretty consistently throughout that crowley is a demon, and he is an angel; whilst on one level this is just simply an observation, it also feels like he has to clarify the power and status imbalance for a specific reason. im not necessarily clear on what this reason is, but my main thought is that it's out of insecurity with his place in heaven, amongst the angels, on earth... and with crowley.

he seems to constantly need to reassert himself as the better of the two, and at times can be outright patronising ("I am an angel, you are a demon, we are hereditary enemies... get thee behind me, foul fiend!"). now some of this equally is for comedy's sake, and in part for exposition to us as the viewer, but the clear integral theme for me is that he expects crowley to just accept it, and not to challenge it. because of course, how could crowley challenge it? it's true, it's a fact.

but the way i kind of interpret these moment is that aziraphale reiterates it very purposefully whenever crowley begins to toe the line of, 'im a demon but i might possibly want to be better than a demon... not an angel, per se, but just better'. so we can take this as crowley finally wanting to move on from his Fall-mindset, and he needs the support of his friend to do it, but his friend won't let him due to his own insecurity and instability. does he fear that crowley would supplant him? or that crowley would stop needing him? start pulling away from him, when all this time these two lonely individuals have danced around in orbit of each other, locked together in a holding pattern borne out of their respective co-dependent necessity for each other?

aziraphale's ultimately a very lonely individual; crowley was, for whatever reason he fell, ripped away from the kinship and camaraderie that he felt in heaven. but aziraphale wasn't shown this kind of perverse mercy; he has to feel the debilitating agony of knowing that on paper he still belongs, but that instead he's ostracised from heaven because of who he inherently is and has continued to become because of his experiences in earth. it stands to reason therefore that he puts crowley on a pedestal as aziraphale originally saw, and wants to see, him. he selfishly (imo) keeps trying to contain crowley, because if he changed, and then suddenly found he doesn't have any need of aziraphale anymore... well, what purpose would remain for aziraphale, a purpose that he truly cares about, if crowley's dependency were to disappear?

where would that leave aziraphale?

a bit more serious/negative note on childes characterization and fandom perception, saw a post where the tone upset me quite a bit

i did do a whole vent/rant/cathartic 2.4k words of writeup on this yesterday which like did help clear my thoughts a lot but in hindsight is way too long to just release by itself so i suppose ill just summarize my thinking now

so i would really appreciate it if a certain subset of childe fans reading his character a specific way (the trauma, identity crisis, dark abyss experiences, etc. - you know the one) could stop acting as if its this like. superior canon proven hoyo intended most real and intellectual way to look at his character and interpret his narrative. as opposed to just one reading of the canon material among others. and im sure most people are civil but ive seen this tone enough to just need to get this off my chest rn.

like im not "missing" something or being "tricked" (what?) by childe or the narrative. its not some naive ignorance about this reading being a thing and the ways people argue for it. ive read his lore. p much memorized it rly. and i simply did not find the arguments that compelling or feel that inserting this additional layer of subjective interpretation atop my understanding of the canon text did much to enhance childes narrative potential or characterization for me.

simply put. applying this super strict irl psychology logic (bc yes a real 14 yo going thru some irl version of ajax' backstory would get severe psychological disturbances as p much given. i know what the DSM-V is) to fantasy game characters isnt how i enjoy engaging with childe or any character really.

genshin is a fantasy game and fantasy as a genre has always readily sidestepped things like realistic psychological consequences of various heavy experiences in favor of building a compelling narrative whenever necessary. i dont find arguments relating to irl psychology particularly relevant at all on the subject really. if you enjoy this approach, go on, have fun! but please understand that its an interpretation that people can disagree without being "wrong" or failing some arbitrary reading comprehension test.

like the dismissive tone i see from people who simply cannot comprehend that like no, this take isnt some universal truth of hoyos that every person will glean from reading up on childes lore and appearances if theyre big brain and intellectual enough is just... really fucking rude? and alienating.

im not going to go on a like whole ramble on all the things that i personally see very much as hinting towards childes characterization going quite a different direction than this popular heavy self-doubt, psychological angle would suggest. its my interpretation after all, and could be proven wrong the way any interpretation can. but for now ive read his lore for years and looked into every single tidbit that involves him and so far hoyos writing of him hasnt given me any convinving case for changing my view drastically anytime soon. and id just like to be allowed to exist in this fandom space without being randomly jumpscared by posts alleging im reducing his character to this or that just bc i see his greatest narrative potential elsewhere.

theres enough insane shit and incredibly interesting lore relating to his overall role in the story and the cosmic scale of teyvat as a whole to be invested in already. like taking childes character as depicted to us and how in-game content characterizes him at a relative face value as opposed to seeking an implied internal struggle of sth hidden and repressed is me simply finding that take the most unique, fascinating, horrifying, compelling and exciting way to see him instead. thats what i love about him and his character. like im sorry, in my eyes the dark past corrupting innocence and trauma angle has just been done to death already in media. childe can have something actually different and breaking those tropes is what makes him stand out for me!

anyway. this whole situation is not sth i wanna start flaming ppl for or make into some drama, i try my best to stay on my lane and let ppl live even if i disagree w these sorta takes on childe. and i just wish for that grace to be extended towards myself too.

an aspect of heteronormativity i don’t get is telling your friends they can’t date your ex

preface: no. don’t get with a person that was abusive towards anybody, friend or not. you’re not an exception to the rule because it will always creep up

that being said, if people don’t end on bad terms, why are you still holding ownership over that person -and quite frankly your friends?

now i can understand if the relationship was just fresh and your homie immediately jumping in dms and i honestly find it crazy that an ex would entertain it because it’s like you just got out of a relationship. give yourself a break (someone people have a fear of being alone and think they constantly need to be in a relaahionship)

but after some time you need to let people move on and you need to as well. whatever those people do does not concern you

you can’t keep memories tied up with a person. have them but don’t think they’re only unique to you. your ex was apart of the relationship to and they moving on

seeing someone you thought you’d end up with become intimate with your friend can be tough. but if things didn’t end tragically and this person is able to move on, is that not a sign that you may need to sit with why you can’t?

the more you dwell on them, having tunnel vision, the greater you are at missing out on your person

granted if you continue to be around, you shouldn’t be subject to jabs by the new couple and other friends every waking second about the relationship not working out. and honestly if your friend group is doing that, honey it’s time to cut them off

and also getting upset that they may be doing things for your friends that they never did for you can be bittersweet. i wouldn’t call that emotional abuse but rather a lack of commitment/passion which obviously made the relationship end. maybe not in the sweetest of terms but no break up is gonna feel good. nobody was at fault, you just weren’t compatible and that doesn’t make neither one of you bad people

i’ve never seen this amongst queer people -at least nonheteronormative ones and i’m sure it happens in ones that are, it’s just very rare. i actually have a tendency to want to date my friends. i want to get to know you then develop further

(hit dog will holler. if it don’t apply, let it fly for this next part)

cuz from my viewpoint, why would i be building that platonic relationship within our dating phase? that sounds like im just bumbling around with a stranger while learning everything about them as im kissing and holding their hand and possibly having sex with them

that’s scary to me. next thing i know, im married to a person and im learning the basics of who they are during our marriage. why didn’t i know you had all these complications before we became partners?

and of course you’re never really going to know how someone acts in a romantic relationship until you get with them, but you should at least know their basic disposition towards humanity. if they not a good friend -person overall- what makes you think they’ll be an even better partner?

i would def let my ex date my friend. cuz honestly im not “letting” them do anything. i can’t control them and i shouldn’t want to. is that really a friend?

and no i’m not exempt from having those bittersweet feeling but i do have the autonomy to dictate how i act around them. the same for them

if you can’t do that and you know you’re going to be combative and lingering on “what could have been” then maybe it’s time to leave them people behind

it’s okay for friendships to end

but i would hate to lose out over something like that. to sever those friendships. like you miss out on a wedding. baby announcements. friend trips. academic accomplishments

like yeah they can be built elsewhere but depending on how long you’ve known your friends thats gotta be hard

if your ex and friend aren’t causing you any harm (instigating emotional, mental or physically harm) then let them be happy with each other

your emotions are valid, but you must be accountable for your emotions/actions and know when you need to dip for your own happiness and theirs. (even if you can’t bring yourself to be happy for them, just do it for yourself)

cuz if we being honest some people sabotage or harm themselves by engaging with things that they know they can’t take. and they should seek therapy

note: i feel this way about divorced people too.

Hey I saw your tags on a prev post, can you tell me how you pirate content safely? (you can publish privately) thanks!

ok im going to start out that im not the 'end all be all' of piracy im like. constantly improving my craft (lol) but i'll explain everything i do to make sure i dont get caught while extensively downloading media

before that though if you just want to stream media and not torrent it you can just go to r/piracy's megathread and click the links through there

i WAS going to put this all under a read more but i was trying to link additional resources and this post has most of their explanation under a read more and since they deactivated their account you can't access it anymore. so on the off chance i deactivate i want to keep this post accessible, sorry its so long lol

some of this tutorial is only truly accessible if you have a computer that can stay on 24/7, which i know is not viable for everyone, so i went ahead and highlighted the things you need a computer thats always on for in blue

(honestly, you probably do all the things you need an always on computer for with a raspberry pi but i dont know jack shit about those (yet) so you'd have to look elsewhere on how to do that) i do all of my piracy on a windows desktop computer

1. the first thing you want to do when beginning your torrenting life is purchasing a good vpn.

i personally don't trust any vpn sponsored by youtubers to not sell you data to companies for profit, so i use ProtonVPN since i use their mail service and their servers are based in Norway i believe which has EXTREMELY strict privacy laws. they have a free version of it but it doesn't allow you to torrent.

NEVER USE A FREE VPN FOR TORRENTING EITHER! they are like. the least secure vpns in the world . a vpn is expensive but basically all of them are for plans that last well over a year so its a worthwhile investment

2. the next thing you'll want to do is select and set up your torrenting client

i personally use qbittorrent and it works great. DO NOT USE UTORRENT. while their are some versions that don't have a cryptominer attached to it, basically all of the versions do at this point so its better to just steer clear

once you have your torrenting client downloaded, you will want to set it up to only be able to connect to the internet through you're vpn. the images below show you how to do it in qbittorrent

once you've done the steps in the image, click "apply" and then "ok" in the bottom right of the settings tab

the next part is only necessary if you are going to seed torrents (which i recommend you do if you can)

if you ARE going to seed torrents, you are going to need to enable port forwarding in your vpn and connect your torrenting client to the port specifed. the following images will show you how to do that with ProtonVPN and qBittorrent

once you've done the steps in the image, click "apply" and then "ok" in the bottom right of the settings tab. you will want to make sure that connection status button, located two buttons to the left of your displayed download speed is a GREEN electrical cord plug. if it is red then you cannot download or seed. if it is yellow then you can download, but you cannot seed. it will take a couple of minutes for the specified port to update and the connection status to turn green.

3. now that you've done the hard part, its time for the EVEN HARDER part (this is, however, all completely optional). it is now time to set up tracked tv shows, movies, etc to automatically torrent when updates or a better quality becomes available

you do this using Radarr (for movies), Lidarr (for music), Sonarr (for TV shows), and Prowlarr (as your indexer to manage what torrent hosting clients you want these applications to use). when you download these applications and install them, you are going to want to

you first want to download all of these applications using the links above. you can choose which applications to download based on the things you're going to be downloading, however for any of these applications to work you are going to NEED to download Prowlarr. for simplicity sake i will walk you through setting up all of these from the beginning of my list to the end, except im starting with prowlarr first because that's what you need to set up the rest.

however, when installing ANY of these applications, you are going to have to choose whether to install it as a system tray application or a windows service. I'm going to copy and paste from the Prowlarr wiki what the difference means, though it applies to all of the applications

A Windows Service runs even when the user is not logged in, but special care must be taken since Windows Services cannot access network drives (X:\ mapped drives or \\server\share UNC paths) without special configuration steps.

Additionally the Windows Service runs under the 'Local Service' account, by default this account does not have permissions to access your user's home directory unless permissions have been assigned manually. This is particularly relevant when using download clients that are configured to download to your home directory.

It's therefore advisable to install Prowlarr as a system tray application if the user can remain logged in. The option to do so is provided during the installer.

now that you've installed the programs you want, its time to set up prowlarr. i am once again going to show you how to set it up using pictures

(image descriptions available in the alt text)

that is how you add what torrent indexers (the websites that host torrents) you want to use to prowlarr. I only used TorrentGalaxy as an example, I don't actually use that site. I recommend being VERY careful and selective with what websites you use if they are a public tracker, as any of their torrents can host viruses. do your research before adding them. for convenience, however, I will list all of the public trackers I use so you can add them to Prowlarr if you like:

you can also add private trackers, which is basically the same setup except you will have to input your username and password and/or an api key to allow prowlarr to access your account. I will explain private trackers later.

i will now show you how to connect prowlarr with the other applications you downloaded, once again with images

you want to do this with every application you're using.

that's the basics for setting up Prowlarr. you can further customize it with the help of the Prowlarr wiki if you'd like, but this is all I'll be covering in this tutorial.

setting up the other applications pretty intuitive if after setting up prowlarr, however if you do need help this is the video i watched to set up the rest. you only need to watch how to set up one of these applications to know how to set up the rest, and you can ignore literally everything this person is saying besides how to set up sonarr radarr and lidarr. seriously, don't listen to the rest of what this person has to say it will only confuse you. i have the video hyperlinked to where you need to start to learn how to set up these applications (the one she walks you through in depth is sonarr)

4. now that you've set up the torrent trackers (or skipped that part, those are, again, optional), it's time to go back to your torrenting client and configure how it handles your torrents.

you can only download so many megabytes a second, and when you have a million torrents downloading at once it makes every single torrent download at a snails pace because of that. so, what you're going to want to do is set it to download only a certain number of torrents at a time, and queue the rest to download once one torrent finishes.

this setup is pretty self explanatory, so I won't use images and just explain it.

go back to the settings of your torrenting client, and click on the "BitTorrent" tab (this might be a tab specific to qbittorrent, if you are using a different client look for a tab that is called something similar) (you can alternatively just google how to set torrents to queue for your specific client)

click the checkbox next to the option "torrent queuing"

customize how many active downloads and uploads you want. I personally recommend having no more than 6 torrents downloading at a time so that way they can all download relatively fast. i have my seed (upload) limit set to 60 because I'm in private trackers (which i will explain more about later), but if you don't want to seed for whatever reason you can set that to 0 and it SHOULD (don't quote me on this) automatically stop your torrent once its finished downloading. this could also potentially throttle your download speed because torrents don't like it when you're not uploading them while downloading them, don't quote me on that either having downloads set to 0 is not something im familiar with at all

you can optionally also set your download and upload limits in the "speed" category of settings, though i recommend keeping them both at infinity

5. setting up your downloaded media so you can watch it

this part is really easy and ALSO technically optional but it makes your life so much more convenient so i really recommend doing it. we're going to set up Plex Media Server so it can auto sort through your libraries and organize everything.

download plex and create an account

launch the server and go to the settings page, indicated by the wrench icon in the top right

scroll all the way down the settings directory until you get to the 'Manage" subheading and click on "Libraries"

assign your media libraries to the folders on your hard drive. for this you are going to want to keep movies, tv, and music all in separate folders, and you are going to want to keep your tv shows within your tv folder separate as well.

click 'scan library files' and watch plex update your library in real time

there will be times where plex isn't able to grab the metadata for a piece of media you have, but i can tell you how to (hopefully) prevent that from happening:

in the settings menu, go to the "network" tab under the "settings" subheading

uncheck the box next to "Enable server support for IPv6"

thats it! it should be able to get the metadata for all your media now

6. joining private trackers

this is honestly some Advanced levels of torrenting, and you shouldn't join them if you don't have a device that can be on and seeding 24/7

private trackers are torrent trackers that you can only use if you have a registered account with. they generally have a higher quality selection of torrents with faster download speeds due to a higher seeders to leecher ratio. each tracker has their own rules you need to follow, but they all have similar baselines

maintain your download-to-upload ratio (this will be specified in the trackers FRQ)

after you finish downloading something, you then need to seed it for a certain amount of time (normally a week) or else it will be considered a 'hit n run' and you will face the appropriate consequences

some things are free leach, which means you can download them without it contributing negatively to your ratio. if you seed and upload free leaches they will count to your ratio positively, however

most private trackers are invite-only, but some do occasionally have open signups which you can track on r/opensignups

when joining any private tracker, i recommend only downloading things that are free leach until you have built a good buffer between your upload to download ratio.

this is barely a drop in the water explanation of private trackers, but it's a part of torrenting that i feel like most people don't know about and/or don't know how to get started with, so i felt like it was worth mentioning. r/piracy has a more in-depth explanation (and a better "how to get started" guide on their megathread

and that's it! this is my indepth beginners guide to torrenting and piracy. i will maybe come back to this later and add more / make the formatting better (tumblr post formatting has such bad options...)

LONG OR SHORT REPLIES : listen. LISTEN. if you've followed me for any length of time you know i love long replies. LIVE FOR THEM. being able to freely write several paragraphs without feeling guilty for dumping essays on my writing partner is delicious. but i'm not opposed to short replies either - they're good for when muse is low, or my energy levels are limited.

BEST TIME TO WRITE : literally the middle of the night. my most productive hours are between 10pm and 4am.

do you have any advice for starting to sell adoptables? i have a lot of character designs im not using, and im not even sure where to start with selling them online

Oouh I will do my best to answer ! :O Beware I will focus on how I sell on Tumblr here as you asked me on Tumblr - some stuff may not apply to other websites but most of the points should apply elsewhere too I would say !

But in general, you need some stuff in your description like:

Tell how you wanna be contacted ( pm, comments, email etc depends what you prefer ) - Also add " contact if interested " - People may contact you to ask you questions about the design too or some details; it happens so you may need to be ready !

Tell what kind of way you prefer to get payment and in what currency ( For me, it's paypal and in euros )

You can also say " rb/boost are welcome - You don't have to be interested if you wanna rb to boost or if you enjoy the art " It will help spread your offers and also some people can be unsure about reblogging and not being interested

I would say to add some rules too, just to be sure you are comfortable with how the designs are used like: " name,gender etc is up to the buyer " " you can/cannot resell/trade/gift " " I can hold the design for ( amount of time you prefer ) " " Don't change the design/You can change the design a bit/You can change the design how you want "

I would also recommend putting the price not only in the description but also on the pic of the adopt: To make sure people see it well but be ready to have people ask you how much they are still (￣▽￣ ) It is still a bit like retail on that point haha

Also watermark your adopts and put the social(s) you post them on the pic too ! If it is get shared around, it could help !

Another thing I would tell you is to TAG YOUR STUFF

You can look up artists you enjoy/respect to see what they use in their adopts tags

Don't hesitate to tag even colours or what kind of colours they are like pastel Stuff in the design like... there is sunflowers in the design ? Tag sunflowers Tag like... aesthetic too like cottagecore or dark acedemia I would say to tag potential triggers, i do that in case and also sometimes even add " ask to tag " cuz i am not sure i got everything covered

But yes tags really help to have your stuff seen - Tumblr good for that

Depends also what kind of design you are making - is it furry ? dnd ? humanoids ? fandom or not ? Tag as best as you can too - if you know artists who do designs like that/you, then look up what they tag these with !

I would recommend VERY MUCH to have a TOS too... !! It may sounds unnecessary or tiring to do but I do recommend as people can ask for a refund after getting the design and scam you :(

It never happened to me but I saw too many horrible stories like that happening to other artists to not tell you you should, even if just in case !

Hello! The evil au got me thinking and I'm liking the idea of the nations each having their own brand of terrible. Mondstadt with the Freedom code really reminded me of the Wine God Bacchus' maenids and how they drink, be merry, and rip apart anyone who disturbs their party time. Which is all the time. It is a very lawless land but still surprisingly tame compared to the other regions. After all, no one can party well if everything is in shambles and its not everyone's ideal lifestyle to be drunk every day. There's SOME responsible people keeping people (Gunhildr clan) keeping things fairly in order so the party never stops. It's almost the national motto. "You never stop partying". Liyue is fucking terrifying, the most oppressive, militaristic and capitalistic area ever. They're definitely conquerors, taking after their dear, beloved, departed Archon Morax. If they can't conquer you through war then it'll be through the market. The only reason they don't go too far beyond Liyuan borders is that they already have a large chunk of land to operate and branching out too much would be dangerous if they would then need to install deputies and landlords elsewhere. More people with power equals more enemies, and there's a reason the TianQuan sticks to a strict 7 (?) Leader Party system. Sumeru hoards all the secrets of the world and dares to venture deeper. Honestly, the in-game version is pretty corrupt to me, but lets take it a step further. Art is genuinely criminalized. The Sages and Researchers perform live experiments on the non-academic populace and that's why everyone there FIGHTS to be a member of the Akademiya to escape the experiment camps. They even buy and steal people from other nations to ensure they have enough lab rats around to do their experiments. There is no ethics at all, only SCIENCE. IDK THE OTHER NATIONS THO SO IDK WHAT THEYD DO BUT IM SURE MIGHT IS RIGHT DEF APPLIES TO NATLAN AND SNEZHNAYA (although I can see Snez being more orderly and government run because the Tsaritsa enjoys controlling her minions and its not fun if she cant lord it over others like Morax does his Liyue Army)

Sorry this took so long to fill! Was havin’ trouble coming up with a scenario lmao, but here’s an angsty Jake and Syb interaction that takes place somewhere between Recognition-Of-The-Self-In-The-Other and The Fall, wherein Sybille is still searching for her brother who disappeared the night of the Reaping.

“You’ve got guts, I’ll give you that,” Jacob says from where he stands in the doorway to his office. Few are stupid enough to try to break into the Veterans Center, and even fewer are skilled enough to actually succeed. The guard who was supposed to watch the door is slumped in the corner, a knife protruding from his neck.

The Deputy sits at his desk with her feet kicked up, her muddy boots dripping all over his files. She’s dressed as a Chosen. The dark gray of her jacket stained bloody red, and she wears the balaclava as a scarf. She flips idly through a manila folder, not bothering to look up at him as he closes the door behind him. The lock clicks with the same finality of a gunshot or nail driving into a coffin as he shuts himself inside the room with her.

He approaches the desk and leans over it, resting his weight on his knuckles. “What are you doing here, Sybille?”

Finally, she looks up at him with a scowl, her green eyes hard and sharp. “Where’s my brother, Jacob?” she asks.

“I’m sure I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he lies.

“Ta gueule,” she growls, slapping the file onto the desk and rising to her feet. She rests her knuckles on the desk as well, mirroring him and invading his personal space. “Your man, Shaw, was a ranger, same as Augustine.”

“And?”

“He was supposed to be with him at the ranger’s station the night of the Reaping. Only ‘stead of bein’ there, he was busy huntin’ me down through the woods, leavin’ my brother all alone.”

“Your brother’s a grown man. I’m sure he’s fine.”

She bares her teeth. “I found Augustine’s backpack scattered on a pile of rocks near the station. Pool of blood, too. Only, there weren’t no body. Now, I checked with Eli an’ he says the Militia ain’t seen ‘im. Neither has the rest of the Resistance. Which leads me to believe some of your men picked him up.”

Jacob hums. That is indeed what happened. His hunters found Augustine on the rocks with a broken leg and brought him back to the Vets Center. Jacob has no use for the lame and was prepared to use the man as food for the Judges, but after Shaw told him he was the Deputy’s brother, he changed his mind. The man was far more useful as leverage. A tool to be used against his sister. “And the thought that he might’ve crawled away to safety or died elsewhere never occured to you?”

Her eyes narrow. “Weren’t no blood trail to suggest that’s the case,” she hisses. “This is a courtesy, Jacob. I’m askin’ you nicely. Where. Is. My. Brother?”

“He’s not here,” he says. Which is true.

It isn’t what Sybille wants to hear. Her hand darts out to grab at the collar of his jacket, pulling him even closer. He can smell her breath. The mintiness of her toothpaste barely covers the stale scent of cigarettes. “That ain’t an answer, Jacob,” she growls.

“He’s safe,” he tells her, which is also true.

But it isn’t good enough either. Her fist twists his collar, drawing him in until their heads bump together. “That ain’t an answer, either.”

His expression shifts, moving from mild amusement to something more patronizing. “Sybille,” he starts, voice dripping with condescension, but then he feels the sharp point of a blade pressing against his ribcage.

Her voice drops, low, quiet, and threatening. “If the next words outta your mouth ain’t the truth, swear to God, I’ll gut’cha like a fish.” She applies just a little more pressure to the blade, prodding it emphatically just under his ribs.

And then he smiles something genuine. There’s not a doubt in his mind that in this moment she’d stick and disembowel him. Heat stirs low in his abdomen, and he finally tells her what she wants. “He’s at Joseph’s compound.”

Sybille stares at him for a long moment, her eyes narrowed and searching, but ultimately judges him to be telling the truth. She releases her grasp on his jacket and leans back, blade still in hand but no longer pointing it at Jacob’s chest. “And why, pray tell, is he there?”

“He didn’t go unwillingly if that’s what you’re asking.”

“You’re real good at not answerin’ my questions,” she says harshly.

Jacob just shrugs. “Joe’s words speak to those in need of family.”

“Augustine has family,” she snarls.

“Eight years is an awfully long time to go without seeing his sister. You didn’t even visit him while you were on leave. Some people would feel abandoned.”

She punches him square in the jaw, sending him stumbling back a few steps. “You’re a goddamn hypocrite, Jacob Seed,” she seethes, her eyes burning with rage. “I raised that boy. Put him through college. I sacrificed everythin’ for him.”

“Including time spent,” he says coolly, rubbing at the bruise beginning to bloom. He’s aware he has no room to talk given his own family history, but he can’t help but enjoy needling under her skin. She’s a beacon of wrath, and he licks his lips as his eyes briefly dart down to where he would normally see the angry scars on her chest were she not wearing the uniform of one of his men.

“I’m gettin’ him back,” she says, her teeth bared once more. “And when I do, I’m arrestin’ your brother. Gonna take him away from you, like you took mine.”

The heat in Jacob’s core intensifies. The lust for revenge looks so fucking good on her.

“And when I’m done,” she adds, “I’m comin’ for you, next.”

Jacob’s smile widens, his grin just as biting as her anger. “We’ll see about that, sweetheart.”

She glares at him, pulling the balaclava up over her face. “Oh, we certainly will,” she promises. “We certainly fuckin’ will.” And without another word, she moves towards the door, unlocking it. She slips quietly out of the room, leaving Jacob entirely alone.

He turns his attention to the corpse in the corner and sighs. Looks like he’s going to have to increase security for next time she tries to break in. She deserves the challenge.

If they've revealed their true nature to their darling, and their darling has accepted everything... they're going nuts. They're all over their beloved. You're with Emmet, He's got wings wrapped around you. It's cold? Don't put on a sweater, he's already got his wings wrapped around you. They're soft, fluffy things- His wings have weird trailing feathers that are more just silky extensions to play with and stroke, and he adores the feeling of you petting them.

One thing he absolutely loves- (And Ingo, in his way) is wrapping himself around you- Legs, tail, all of his arms, and having every one of his wings wrapped around in the biggest, silkiest, fluffiest cuddle pile you've ever been in, nuzzling his face into your neck and lazily kissing you. His arms will stroke wherever you want, claws lightly tracing your skin- and his feathers will flex and bend themselves to trail along your skin as well. Unlike regular feathers, Emmet can feel with these things and move them at will- and he's going to take full advantage of caressing you as much as he can. Also if you start playing with his wings and see any strange silver markings don't touch those- Not for any particular reason and also they are definitely not eyes he's got closed

Ingo's appearance is similar to his brother, but he's more scaly and furry; think big wolf dragon man in the dark. His form is much more ephemeral and he can change it much more easily than his brother- And he's often lost in shadows gathering around his form. If you suddenly notice your surroundings get darker, Ingo's nearby- And you'll quickly be able to tell by the feeling of something crawling up your skin- Namely his shadows moving over you.

Ingo does something similar to his brother, wrapping you in the embrace of his many arms and shadow tendrils- Which he can also control and feel with, though the way they move... it sometimes seems like they have a mind of their own, with the frenzied way they'll grasp at you, trailing against your skin and tickling you lightly. Really, it's just that Ingo is so incredibly happy to finally have you in his grasp. He loves touching you, feeling your skin- And he's probably messed with your sense of time so you don't realize just how long he's been cuddling with you. And since he's so ephemeral, you'll often feel the soothing touch of his shadows on your back, or around your arms... or elsewhere, depending on how he's feeling.

You can almost always notice the feeling of one of them close by- The sensation of feathers trailing across your skin, or an increase in the brightness of light means Emmet's watching you- If it gets darker, or you notice the shadows around you are writhing and reaching for you- Ingo's watching you. And it's almost always both of them who are watching you.

to those i may or may not know, and myself: im tired of my own inaction. now is the time to begin asserting my true self physically-- materially-- or i may as well be walking around but actually dead.

as my mom once told some authoritative figure from my elementary school, she didnt want her precious child becoming a zombie from medicine (s)he did not 'need'.

to my mom, who will likely never see this: ive had plenty of doses of 'performing womanhood' and it's making me a zombie, mom. and you didnt want that. i know for certain i do not need it, as you were sure then that i did not need Ritalin for my undiagnosed adhd, except i know me better than anyone else. even you.

to myself: i refuse to leave my twenties behind with nothing to show for it. from what i've seen and read, your thirties are for being stable and finally being comfortable with yourself, as you still enjoy being in your prime somewhat, yet you have wisdom and knowledge that you might have longed for ten years prior (or even ignored outright in some cases).

this... really isnt a coming out post. most of you already know i am a trans man. and if you do not, now you know (and i cant blame you for not reading my about page or carrd, even though i try my best to make it short and sweet).

this is more of a thing for me. instead of putting it in a physical notebook and not looking back, i am putting it here as a declaration and proof of my tipping point. i have had enough.

however, i cant just start creating tension at home by asserting myself. at least not yet. i need a plan-- mostly of things i can do right now to improve my situation.

i must find better work while still somewhat closeted. i need to do this for other reasons, too, but if i got full time employment or even part time somewhere making 12 or more usd an hour, that would be a huge boon so i can save money.

i need to be able to legally drive. i am already working on this with my dad, and i am studying to get my learner's permit. this is actually higher on my priority list than number one, but since this is already in the works, i feel safe enough to look for work elsewhere at the moment.

set up a new email, resume, etc with my real name (fuck saying preferred name, raphael is my name, and you will fucking call me by that name).

i have said this since 2020, but a binder is a must if i intend to apply for jobs using a masculine name. i hope adding this layer of a professional need to it will make me suck it up and pay a good amount for a decent binder (or two).

this is the plan for now. hopefully by the time i start things like hrt down the road, i will have moved out or am in the process of moving out on my own, because my mom does not listen to me. none of my family listens to me except for my older brother.

same as quite a few people im slightly intrigued by this car that appears in ep1 (and im sure appears elsewhere in s2 if they are recycling scene dressings as much as they are the extras) (and no comment so far on whether this Means anything):

the car itself i think, could be important; im reasonably certain this is the ds3 crossback e-tense (again, im sure someone else has identified it too, im not pretending im a genius with a unique observation here):

in fact this fab post looking at the exact same thing (i spent ages bloody looking for it, only for it to just wander across my dash - typical) pinpointed it to potentially be the ds3 esprit de voyage which, if it is indeed (and may well be, im certainly not an expert on cars) supports the point made here*

but the question is the exterior, right? well, we know from set photos that there's a small market after the crossroads, as you head north-east up whickber street, that is selling a bunch of flowers as well as fruit and veg etc... but the car is positioned directly parallel to the coffeeshop, so the mottling can't be a reflection of that. furthermore, the mottling doesn't move as the car creeps forward, so it's either a matte pattern of sorts, or is something layered on top of the reflective bodywork.

which would leave it to be a wrap, or dust. starting with the latter; we know that a lot of the cars appear to be dressed with dust, which is understandable from a world-building perspective, even if it does happen rather inconsistently, raising its own conundrum... but let's say it's simply to make them look more lived-in and able to fade into the background scenery (a very shiny, newly washed and waxed car would stick out somewhat). also, i think (?) that s2 is set somewhere towards the tailend of summer/early autumn (not sure where i got this from though), so dust from dry london streets makes sense. but then again, the patterning of said dust on this car is strange; you'd expect it to be splashed along the sides essentially below the door handles, not splashed across it like a jackson pollock... and the windows (the rear-offside one, for reference) appear to be clear.

which brings me to the possibility of the former; as far as research tells me, this mottled grey isn't an official colour of the model, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything - people can get vehicles wrapped in mostly anything providing it's a recognisable colour by the DVLA. so, im now wondering if it might be a test vehicle (where new vehicles on test are covered with a camouflage wrap to prevent design ideas being stolen by competitors before official release), given that i think the facelift electric model of the e-tense* was released in november/december 2021, and s2 filming started in 2021 and wrapped in early 2022, so this would make sense. *alternatively, if this is the esprit de voyage model, this model looks to have been set for release in late 2023, which only furthers the above - in either case, that it was potentially on test and therefore would have been camo-wrapped...?

*important, as all but the bentley were electric cars re: filming on an indoor set.

regardless of the exact model, it is potentially a bit strange that a new vehicle, on test, would be used as an extra in the show, but (and im not an expert) i think that as a co-production with the BBC that the rules on product placement would apply, even if it doesn't broadcast on BBC... so, say for example that the props department needed to source a variety of electric vehicles, available in the edinburgh area, but couldn't enlist multiple of the same model because of these guidelines (avoid undue prominence). so, they find the above model, but as it's a new model due for release, it needs to be wrapped?

idk, bit of a stretch, but the alternative is that the car appears in the show, in this way, for some reason that serves an ulterior plot point... which, seems to me to be a bit stretched? it might well be! but taking into account the potential of the above, plus COVID limitations, i do wonder if it's just that they had to source and dress a variety of electric vehicles from the area, and it just so happened that this one being not yet available for public release had to be wrapped?

NL anon again, I’m just gonna start signing these with 📌 because I’m not great at direct messaging lol. If you’re looking for something to learn that 1) doesn’t have a high cost of entry, 2) pays well and 3) doesn’t require physical labor, I recommend coding. I’m learning python for data analysis right now and I keep all my notes in a little book, and I think it’s the “easiest” code I’ve ever attempted. It’s very logic based and everything makes sense, and once you’re certified you can work remotely for a decent salary. The good thing about code is that even without a bachelors, if you have proper certification you can apply for jobs anyways and there’s a good chance you’ll get it unless the employer is an asshole or looking for something specialized. Also you can learn it for free online! Maybe this isn’t helpful, if it isn’t feel free to just ignore this but if there’s any way we can help please let us know!

No this is actually EXTREMELY helpful because I've been heavily considering learning to code for the last few years now! For not only the reasons you mentioned but also I just like technology and I've always wanted to make my own rpg maker game or something and like, it just sounds so cool to be able to make a little game or program that I completely coded myself? And SO many jobs need people who know how to code! I've also I can be pretty good st problem solving so part of me like, really hopes I would actually be good at coding

Where I was hitting the wall was um. When I started to look into it, I just. Couldn't decide what kind of program to learn? I know there are several different, im not sure on the terminology, coding programs and depending on the job, they want you to know specific ones or even several? So I was just really intimidated not knowing which one to pick or start with. I didn't want to pick one and invest a lot of time becoming good at it and then it "turn out to be a waste of time"

But no thank you this is actually really great advice and it actually reminds me that my old roommate that I used to rent from who worked in IT also said python would be a great thing for me to learn?

But yeah I'm just sort of like. I'm at the point where I feel like the only way I could make a decent living in America is either coding or trading stock and getting lucky. Like deadass like some catch lightning in a bottle, get lucky off some pump and dump crypto scam sort of deal. That's how incredibly defeated and anxious and depressed i feel about the state of things in America that I legitimately start hoping for these wild scenarios. And then I'm not even allowed to post about wanting to move elsewhere on my own blog without getting accused of some random bonkers shit based off of... a weird personal assumption someone else made 🤦‍♀️
