Keeping up with the Florida Panthers (aka Sara Civian interviews Matthew)
EP Rinkside: What's something away from the rink that’s making you happy these days?
Matthew Tkachuk: I would say, just, I'm lucky at this time of year. Especially across the whole country, it seems like it's freezing everywhere. It's beautiful down in Florida. And we just moved into our new practice rink recently, so that's been awesome.
EP: There was a quote floating around from (head coach Paul Maurice) from before the nine-game win streak and before you started getting hot on the scoresheet. He said people are going to say “Matthew Tkachuk is back,” and he's going to say you never left. Did you see that?
MT: I did, yes.
EP: How did you feel about it, and what's your relationship with him like?
MT: Well, Paul's been a very important part of my last few years. He’s one of, if not the best, coaches that I've ever played with. He's been very important for my development, and I just think that he trusts my game, and I trust my game. I wouldn't say (the puck) was going in early, but I haven’t changed one thing, I'm still doing the exact same thing, it's just finding a little bit more success right now.
It’s been a great year for our team and as of late, it’s picking it up a little bit for myself. Hopefully, we can just keep trending into the second half of the year here.
EP: How important is that trust between a coach and a player and how is it developed?
MT: I just think that he's always given me the right leeway, but still expects me to play the right way. He knows that there's some parts of my game that (are unique) I need to maybe take a little bit more chances than the average player. He gives me full leeway to do that, but also expects me to work my butt off and to lead by example.
EP: We always talk about “buy-in,” it's kind of cliché at this point, and you guys obviously have that factor. But how does something like that start?
MT: I just think being so close to winning it all last year has made it very, very easy to come back this year and have that immediate buy-in from the guys wanting to win a championship here. So many returning guys who are so close and so upset with not finishing it off. There's a lot of motivation.
EP: Do you have a favourite moment from last season's run?
MT: I would say, probably all of the series-clinching wins, the series-winning goals. The overtime winner in Boston, the overtime winner in Toronto, the last second one at home against Carolina.
All three of those are by far the greatest goals I've ever been a part of.
EP: I feel like we're not as a society talking about Sam Bennett enough. Can you give us a little bit about what he's like off the ice and what it's like to play with him?
MT: He just plays so hard.
He was one of the first guys I met when coming to Calgary, and we've been so close ever since. I'm so happy that we got to play together again down here in Florida. He was the first guy I talked to when I got traded, and we've just been so close for eight-plus years now.
It’s so fun that we're able to play with each other still, we just have such great chemistry on and off the ice. He just plays so hard and he complements my game so well. And off the ice, we're just super close and have a great group of guys that pretty much do everything together away from the rink.
It makes it so much fun to come to the rink every day, work with them, and then when we leave the rink, do stuff together.
EP: If you became the commissioner of the league today, what's the first thing you'd change?
MT: Overtime until somebody scores. No shootouts. And no back-to-backs. I don't know if we need any more back-to-backs right now.
EP: Other than you, who has the best chirps in the league?
MT: I'd say the guy who chirps a lot on our team is Brandon Montour. He has some good ones. Nick Cousins has got some good ones. (Ryan) Lomberg, too. They all have some good ones.
EP: Best advice your dad ever gave you?
MT: Two things: Compete and be a good teammate.
EP: Last year you gained some recognition outside of the hockey world, and it kind of sparked, like, a debate about personality in the NHL. I've always wondered What you actually think about this whole conversation, like, do you like being kind of the personality guy in the NHL?
MT: Well, I’m never going to not be myself. I grew up with great parents that taught me great things and around a great family. I’ll carry that for the rest of my life. I’m not trying to do anything, and some guys are (quieter) and that’s OK. This is just how my personality is.
EP: Can you give me three words to describe the current Panthers?
MT: Oh, I would say very fast. So fast. Close – we’re a super close team.  I've never seen a team like this where, you know, we're going to dinner on the road and we're having, you know, 15 people reservations and everybody hanging out with each other. it's been awesome. Fast, close, and fun. Nobody has more fun than our team.

long list of funny things abt my experience doing emote commissions for mike
first of all I wasn't expecting to get commissioned at all (my commissions weren't even open, I just made an exception for mike) let alone by MIKETHELINK of all fucking people, so I had nothing prepared. I had no portfolio, commission sheet, nothing. I had never made any twitch emotes, so I had no examples to show either. meaning that when barbmine showed up in my dms asking if I took emote commissions, first I lost my fucking shit, then I panicked and rushed to find the most recent emote-like illustrations I had, including animation, and the most recent animation I had on hand happened to be a viewtiful joe one lmao. the animation in question 👇
Tumblr media
(the usernames on the watermark aren't even accurate anymore..)
I have some experience taking commissions but they'd always been for friends of mine, this was my first time getting commissioned by a real "client" and the client was fucking mikethelink tazercraft of all fucking people . I know he "found" me through Mine, she sent me a dm first asking for commission info, saying she would show it to mike later. the thing is that when she said that she also implied that she was in touch with other artists too, so I was like "oh ok I'll send my stuff but I probably won't get chosen lol" and then a few hours later I got two twitter notifs, one saying that mr. thelink tazercraft was now following me and another was his DM. to say I almost had a heart attack would be an understatement
later I found out Mine had made a tweet asking for artists to reach out/people to rec artists for mike's twitch emotes. that post had around 40 comments. many people had been recommended more than once. I wasn't mentioned by anyone once, and in fact, I had no fucking idea that post even EXISTED until way after the fact. I have no idea how I ended up getting this job
mike happened to contact me on a day where I was severely sleep deprived. our entire business conversation took place while I was half-panicking, half-almost-passing-out. I don't know how I survived
at many points during our conversation I gave a lot of leeway for mike to give up on commissioning me, implying multiple times that he would be better off commissioning a different artist. and it's not because I lacked confidence (though a bit of that too, of course), but because of my lack of experience. I was very open about that to him, so many times I expected him to second guess his decision to commission me. unexpectedly, he was really insistent. I think partially he didn't want to go through the trouble of finding and contacting a different artist, but also I guess he just liked my art that much (??!?)
I definitely undercharged him lol. it's not that I don't value my work, it's just that I was absolutely not prepared for any of this shit to happen and didn't have enough time to think
I use adobe after effects for animating mike's emotes. I already knew how to animate (though I had never animated anything big), but I had never used after effects before. I even told mike this before accepting the commission, but he just said it was easy and I could totally do it, and I was just like "fucking hell. fine". and look, I know my limits, I knew I'd be able to learn after effects with relative ease. if I thought it'be too much for me to handle, I wouldn't have accepted the commission. it just that to this day I'm still shocked that mike commissioned an artist who HAD NEVER USED THE TOOL NECESSARY FOR THE COMMISSION HE WANTED.
due to the point above I was pretty apprehensive about animating the emotes, but now I'm glad I got this opportunity bc it reignited my passion for animation that had been dwindling for a long time and I've been learning a lot while working. also with every new emote I figure out how to use a different feature of after effects and it makes the job a little bit easier
before giving my payment information I came out to him to avoid confusion with my legal name being different from the name on my socials. he was very chill about it and always used the right name and pronouns for me whenever he mentions me on stream
fun fact: I was reached out to by another big (brazilian, not in qsmp) youtuber for a commission but I had to refuse because I had too much on my plate already (still do..)
my favorite emotes are the devil one and the nerd one
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I made his twitch avatar and banner too! I'm really proud of the avatar. the banner was absolute hell
I'm a lurker (and nowadays a vod watcher since I've been busy w/ uni work) but I do watch every single one of mike's streams, so just know that I'm always seeing you guys use the emotes :3

🤌🏻 you've seen the vid of binnie taking a donut from a STAY at the fan meet? Imagine that it wasn't just any STAY it also happened to be his s/o!
Just thoughts of binnie scanning which stay to take from and he spots you and takes yo donut and you sit there like.
... "bruh, I got this for us to eat at home why 😭" still had fun at the fan meet tho and you adore interacting with your boyfriend at fan meets loool.
powdered donuts paired with sugary sweet love

dont repost. dont translate. feedback and reblogs are highly advised and appreciated!
the local bakery is just a few blocks away from where skz are currently holding their fan meeting. you can hear the sounds of the cheers and screams from the many stays as well as the music for s-class playing.
as you step inside the bakery, pick out four donuts for you to indulge later on tonight. you hear his voice bellowing in your ears as you pay. you smile to yourself as you listen to his cheerful laugh, a laugh that erupts from deep within his chest whilst making everyone else around him laugh too from how contagious it is.
you step outside, clutching the box. you decide on making a detour to see how the fan met is going plus, you want to see your lover after not seeing him for a few weeks.
you stand a few feet away from the crowd. enough to be seen by changbin but not enough to be shooed away from the event organisers plus security.
you chuckle to yourself as you watch skz interact with stays, taking photos and talking to them. you spot changbin, feeling your heart swell and butterflies flutter in your stomach from how beautiful and soft he looks. your body fills with pride, eyes filling with tears as you watch him. you couldn't be proud of changbin, proud of how far he has come.
you've watched him struggle with his own mind at times. the exhausting hours, the never ending sleepless nights and his body battered and bruised from the ruthless dance practises as well as him losing his voice a couple of times. you've been by his side, his shoulder to lean on and you're so proud of him for sticking at it and never giving up.
whilst reminiscing, you fail to notice changbin making a mad dash towards you only to be stopped by security. changbin frowns and pouts, protesting as you watch him become flustered and somewhat annoyed.
“she's my girlfriend! she won't hurt me, just let me past please.” you see him mouth, practically begging the guy, but security just won't budge–until stray kids manager comes over and explains the situation and who you are. luckily for you, you're on good terms with skz and the team behind them, which allows you just that little bit of leeway when it comes to stuff like this.
changbin hugs the manager before beaming as bright as the sun. he runs over to you, engulfing you in his arms. your eyes widen as you laugh, holding the box of donuts away so you don't drop them.
“i've missed you so fucking much.” changbin whispers, eyes closing as he inhales that scent of yours he has missing so dearly. you smile softly to yourself, melting into his body. the scratchy fabric of his outfit rubs against your cheek but you endure it just to be held by changbin that little bit longer.
“i've missed you too binnie. so so much.” you whisper.
“i only have a few minutes until i have to go back. i know i shouldn't stray away from stays but as soon as i saw you, my body went into autopilot.”
“i understand baby. you have a job to do so it's ok.” changbin pulls away slowly before cupping your cheeks and kissing you sweetly on the lips. you hum softly, reciprocating the kiss and melting into his touch and the heat from the palm of his hands.
“what you got there then?” he says, nodding at the box of donuts.
“oh!” you open the box to show him the powdery, sugar coated dough. “just a small snack for tonight. thought i'd treat myself for after dinner.”
“yum!” changbin smirks playfully as he grabs a donut. you pout and whine as you watch him take a bite out of the soft dough. “this is delicious! very sweet, but delicious!”
“binnie!” you whine. he giggles softly as you sigh and roll your eyes playfully at him. you reach out, swiping some powdered sugar away from the corner of his lips with your thumb.
“it's a good thing i love and adore you, seo changbin.”

first tentative meta post about wu xie my beloved, more specifically about his characterization in his less than stellar moments, sparked by a discussion with @thelaithlyworm about whether or not the lost tomb 2.5 is in character for wu xie according to the books. i figured i'd take the rest of my thoughts to a separate post since our exchange was clogging up poor OP’s replies, and because i feel like a difference in opinion like this is worth being made public if only so people can get both sides of a rare discussion about the books and reach their own conclusions, so for those who are interested here’s a link to the original post where this discussion takes place in the replies if you'd like the full context. sorry in advance for how long this will likely be, and i hope there's no problem with me directly tackling some of the arguments that were made in favor of lost tomb 2.5 being an accurate adaptation of book wu xie's characterization, which is a take i strongly disagree with
i think much of the problem in the discussion simply lies in the fact that we seem to have fundamentally different interpretations of wu xie’s character in the books, because as i see it, none of the insistences that were quoted prove that wu xie has ever acted the way he does in 2.5 in the books—if anything, they disprove it. the quote from ch. 92 of sand sea that was brought up goes as follows:
Tumblr media
this is where i believe the problem of different interpretations is at play, and to be fair some of it is ambiguous so there is some leeway, but i read this recollection very differently from how @thelaithlyworm seems to. as i see it, wu xie is recalling a time where pangzi, understandably concerned about his friend because he sees the toll the sha hai plan is taking on wu xie, and the lengths he’s having to go to in order to set it in motion, tells him it’s not too late to stop and turn back. to which wu xie replies that even if he had decided to stop and live his life blissfully unaware of the extent of the wangs' reach and their machinations, things would have caught up to him eventually given they’d infiltrated the jiumen to the extent they had.
“and at that time you’ll have already left me one by one, leaving me to foolishly face those fists” is the most ambiguous as to what exactly it's referring to, but i personally see it as referencing either the fact wu xie and his friends would have by then eventually drifted apart or they'd have stopped giving him their support should he have decided to ignore the truth and sit around doing nothing, or more sinisterly, would have potentially all been replaced by then if there hadn't been a plan in motion. it's likely a little bit of both. to which pangzi replies that he’s right, conceding and agreeing that wu xie never truly had a choice about his involvement to begin with, which is more or less the entire point of sand sea and the wider narrative of the main story.
no part of this conversation is reminiscent of the open conflict between them in 2.5 in that neither of them here are angry, and neither of them are even aggressive or antagonistic towards each other or in general. this is quite a calm if resigned conversation wu xie is recalling that also fits the overall cynical tone of the chapter itself, and wu xie’s certainly not acting out and pushing his friends away in a bid to deal with everything himself. if anything the entire point of sand sea is to show that despite each character acting independently, the sha hai plan only succeeded because they worked together and not alone, and that wu xie needed his support system to create an invisible yet tangilble network that could take down the wangs. so no part of this particular passage reads as though pangzi is saying he ever considered bailing on wu xie because of his behavior, and even if that were the case, it would still be referring to a hypothetical situation and not their current one.
wang meng's behavior in ten years later is also not the greatest example to use as an argument to prove 2.5 wu xie’s characterization is present in the books, mostly because it's actually wang meng himself who's more so the one acting like that than wu xie himself. wang meng, in his concern for wu xie, tries to guilt trip him into letting go of his obsession with xiaoge, and he is the one who instigates a conflict with wu xie that culminates in him staging xiaoge's "death" as a last ditch effort once spewing bottled up vitriol at wu xie and threatening to take over wushanju don't work.
it's however misguided at best given that not only did all of wu xie's close friends who participated in the sha hai plan agree to do so willingly (i’m of course not talking about li cu and co among others who very much did not consent) and so accusing wu xie of having coerced them takes away from their own agency, but the sha hai plan was a necessity beyond freeing xiaoge, which is something wang meng fails to understand. wang meng makes the mistake many people in the fandom do of pinning wu xie’s determination to see that plan through solely on his desire to free xiaoge, and of course that’s an important part of it, but the narrative makes a point of building up over the course of the main books and tibetan sea flower that wu xie’s entire family was at stake as well, and had been for several generations, so on a personal level it went beyond xiaoge alone. but again, whatever truth there is to wang meng’s words (which is an interesting but entirely different topic) still doesn’t make it true that wu xie was either actively petty or vitriolic towards his friends as a way to vent his own frustrations.
several moments in which wu xie objectively does terrible things or acts horribly were listed as a way of justifying that his behavior in 2.5 is in character and in line with how he acts in the books. and of course these moments do happen, and it's very true in sand sea especially that wu xie does terrible things (it's part of what makes him such an interesting character). but again, this argument feels somewhat in bad faith in that it conflates all negative behavior and traits together regardless of what specific shape those negative behaviors take in order to justify that his portrayal in 2.5 is faithful to the books simply because he displays negative behavior in that adaptation, completely disregarding that his less than stellar actions and emotions aren't expressed in the same ways in the books and in 2.5. my dislike of wu xie in 2.5 doesn't stem from him doing unlikeable things, otherwise i wouldn't like wu xie as a character in general. wu xie absolutely does do a lot of terrible things in sand sea especially, but the inherent problem with 2.5 is that none of the things he does or the way he acts in the books ever lines up with the specific way he acts in 2.5.
in the books, even before sand sea, yes wu xie is manipulative (re: threatening bodily harm to himself to force wu erbai into sharing information with him), yes he cut up bodies and sent them to li cu among other extremely morally questionable things, yes he kidnapped li cu and made him go through literal hell, and likely did much the same to other people before him (hence the seventeen scars on his arm). he has and continues to have even in recent book canon re: yucun biji the ability and will to inflict permanent psychic damage on people he deems to be deserving of it or a threat. he’s by no means perfect or even overly kind, and if someone were to say that a number of the earlier drama adaptations especially soften his character and make him much more wide-eyed and innocent than he actually is in the books, i would absolutely agree with them. i would also agree if someone said that gap in characterization is why some people don’t like him much in the sand sea drama. but the fact is for all the negative traits and behavior he displays at varying points in the books, none of them are ever expressed in the very specific way they are in 2.5.
@thelaithlyworm rightfully mentions wu xie's ptsd as justification for much of his more "toxic" reactions to things, and his ptsd is incredibly important in understanding how wu xie works as a character and what his experiences have forged him into, to the point it's a topic that deserves its own in-depth post. but saying we have different definitions of what ptsd is is both accurate to the complex nature of ptsd, and a bit disingenious because of the complex nature of ptsd, because the emotional dysregulation and impaired decision-making it entails won’t necessarily manifest in the same ways in different people.
in 2.5 wu xie, ptsd manifests in the form of vitriol and anger he directs at pretty much everyone in his immediate vicinity, more especially pangzi, because it has no other outlet in that situation than outwards. and i’m not saying ptsd expressing itself like that never happens, because it very much does. what i'm saying is that book wu xie's ptsd, while very real, doesn't manifest in the way it does in 2.5 wu xie.
in book wu xie, ptsd manifests in much more internalized ways, and so he’s far more prone to directing the anger and pent-up emotions inwards through self-harm, both mental and physical (i.e. the scars on his arm, his persistent self-hatred, etc.), and the emotional dysregulation very often comes not in the form of chaotically expressed emotions, but rather abnormal lack of them, as arguably wu xie's bad coping mechanism is emotional dissociation, and when the emotions are truly too strong to be distanced from, they come out in the form of panic attacks he often doesn’t recognize as such (i.e. when he finds xiaoge and believes he’s dead in book 8, or when he has flashbacks on their way to motuo in yucun traveling notes) or of general breakdowns (i.e. wu xie stays numb once xiaoge disappears behind the gate up until he starts crying in the street once he returns to hangzhou).
it’s incredibly rare that wu xie’s trauma directs itself outwards towards his loved ones, and while he might do so in his head quite frequently (which we the readers see since most of the books are from wu xie's point of view), it's rare he actually externalizes it, and since his comments can only lead to conflict if they're extrernalized, there's rarely ever genuine conflict between him and his friends. one of the only times it happens with pangzi specifically is in tibetan sea flower were he makes an honestly cruel dig at pangzi about yuncai because pangzi’s withheld information about xiaoge from him:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but even this scene, which is the closest to anything that's portrayed in 2.5 between them, plays out differently, not only because wu xie knows very well he’s going too far, his mention of yuncai isn't solely an outlet for his anger. he’s very consciously trying to bait pangzi into telling him what he knows, and so aims at where he knows will hurt most. it's targeted and mean because it's meant to be, but it's also not a gratuitious outlet either unlike his comments are more often than not in 2.5. it's manipulation, and he's certainly not trying to push pangzi away, nor is it driving a wedge between them despite how uncalled for his comment it. and more importantly, pangzi once again proves himself to be the most emotionally stable of the iron triangle by not stooping to that level or making light of the conversation. he knows perfectly well what wu xie is doing, so any conflict is diffused before it can even take root, and stays an isolated incident, whereas in 2.5, conflict is an underlying theme.
ironically there are more examples of this type directed at xiaoge, but even those don't showcase the same blind anger or gratuitous meanness that 2.5 wu xie consistently displays, and it's that specifically that's out of character. while wu xie vents his frustrations at xiaoge in book 4 over being kept in the dark, he's more serious about it than angry, and very quickly realizes his foot-in-mouth comment and backtracks accordingly:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
he's at his most openly angry with xiaoge at the end of book 8 when xiaoge leaves them all in banai, and even goes as far as trying to have xiaoge detained by qiu dekao in a last ditch effort to force him to stay (which in itself is the real manifestation of him not being able to control his emotions correctly and reason going out the window where xiaoge is concerned, and it only ever really happens in relation to xiaoge, but that's also a topic for another post):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
but again, while he's visibly angry and upset, and is looking for support from others around him to validate his upset at xiaoge leaving, he never actually spews any vitriol at xiaoge himself despite his anger being obvious, never actually calls him names outside of his own head despite the rare quality of his anger, never tries to instigate conflict for the sake of venting his overflowing emotions, nor does he ultimately stop xiaoge from leaving. even later as he follows xiaoge up changbai mountain, his desperation eventually turns into resignation and acceptance, not venting.
this post is way too long, but my entire point here as it has been from the start of this discussion is that while wu xie in the books does get angry, he does have ptsd, it does manifest in the ugliest ways and he's certainly not an angel, his anger in general never veers into extended open conflict or gratuitous vitriol thrown at his loved ones as a misguided form of venting his own emotions like it does throughout the vast majority of lost tomb 2.5, just like a number of the conflicts he gets into with other characters stem from out of character reactions from those characters to begin with (i.e. xiao hua absolutely losing it over wu xie hiding wu sanxing's betrayal of xie lianhuan in 2.5 vs. this information being very casually received in book 7). and that's where my point of contention with that adaptation lies.
i feel as though this is a case of agreeing to disagree as far as interpretation of wu xie's character goes, and that's absolutely fine, but in the same way that it's alright to dislike things simply because, it's equally as alright to like things for the same reasons. it's fine to like lost tomb 2.5, and my opinion of it is purely my own, but liking it doesn't necessarily have to be rooted in whether it's adapting the books correctly, even if it can be.
my dislike of 2.5 stems from how i consider it to be out of character by comparison to the books, and my entire point here has been to explain that different interpretations of any particular source material can exist, and therefore yes, it's entirely possible to view 2.5 wu xie as out of character, just as it's entirely possible to dislike that adaptation for the same reason. and i'm far from the only person to have this interpretation. so no, my dislike of 2.5 doesn't come from not liking it when wu xie’s doing unlikeable things, or else i wouldn't like wu xie as a character, nor is it because i don’t understand what ptsd is given the particular ways in which it can manifest from one specific person to another

23.5 Ep 10
Last week we introduced a little angst via Sun possibly going to the US for a year, Alpha having some relatable struggles regarding her place in life and her family, and poor Aylin being accosted by everyone and dealing with it by smashing her food in Ton's face (no sadness for him, he deserved it).
Sigh. I should have known they'd do the towel falls and panic ensues thing. I can't pretend it doesn't make sense, lol. And we still have that gloriously sensual kiss from the end so I can't really complain.
Dinner with the folks. Poor Ongsa, she's so nervous, but Sun's family is so warm and lovely.
AW I like Sun's parents. I always love it when parents react positively in BLs and GLs. My favorite is still Akk's parents in The Eclipse, but He's Coming to Me was good too.
Okay. I don't know how other people feel about this, but I will say that I firmly believe in not changing your plans for a love interest. Do not switch colleges, do not change cities or reject a great job offer or decide not to go to the States to study in what is a golden opportunity for you. Do NOT. Especially not when you are a freaking teenager, my god.
I hope Luna feels bad. I love her but Aylin's my girl and she totally pushed her into a corner. I still do wonder if Aylin does want friends but she doesn't know how to handle people being genuinely nice to her, but she has to go at her own pace. And Ton was way out of line. Read the room, himbo. Some people don't want you all up in their face.
I don't know the more I thought about it the more annoying it got to me. I'm not really mad at anyone - they're all stupid kids tbh and I remember enough about being a stupid kid that I can give them some leeway, mostly because none of them meant any harm - but I do think that the appalled reaction was aimed at the wrong person in that situation.
I just want Aylin to be happy okay? Whatever that looks like for her.
You know, it would amuse me if Ton and Mawin wound up together after all of this. I don't think that's what's gonna happen but it would amuse me.
I still think that Ton only wants Charoen because she doesn't want him. I would love it if they don't end up together but I don't have that much hope.
Oh no. Please you two do not make her feel bad.
Oh Aylin.
Look at her face. I just have to say it, View is so damn good in this role.
"But we're friends" doesn't really cut it when she's spent most of her life being picked on, Charoen.
YES Bambam tell them. Genuinely, I do love that the girls are getting this kind of...gentle reminder from them that not everyone is the same and that just because you want someone to open up or talk to you doesn't mean that they are ready, and if they are never ready or never want to that's their choice. I do think that they're both pushy because they care about Aylin, but well. They needed to hear to slow their roll. And I do love the gentle way that Bambam lead them to that conclusion on their own.
Ugh Nida and Bambam are great. Now if they would just kiss, please.
Okay I know that this year separation sucks when you're young and in love. And that a lot can change. But also, maybe I'm just unromantic because I'd still do it. I also knew that Ongsa would not want to go with her, although my guess is that in the end she does.
Bambam and Nida! Bambam and Nida!
Right. I totally want them to get together I will cry if they don't but. But I am also really loving watching Bambam reach new oblivious heights.
I do wonder what all this looks like to Ongsa's parents. Literally every time they have a meal with these kids someone is having an issue.
Do NOT - DAMMIT SUN.
I'm sorry. I just don't think that it's romantic.
Yeah called this with Aylin. I think that I might have to think about this for a bit.
Oh Ton. This fucking guy.
And yes, you can make her smile and that's a good thing. Just stay out of her face.
FINALLY. YES BAMBAM YOU ARE THE DENSEST.
Aw that's a yes. NOW KISS. KISS KISS KISS.
Well that was cute. Methinks that even if the cards tell Bambam to stay far away she'll find a way to interpret them the way she wants, lol. Love that for her.
I actually kind of love that Ongsa is being the mature one here. And I agree with her. Because I really do feel that when you do something like that - give up on a dream because of a relationship - it will more often than not become a crack in that same relationship you were so desperate to preserve.
Does Ongsa think that her parents are gonna be upset that she and Aylin are in relationships with girls? Because they really do not seem to be bothered by the idea of Aylin and Luna at all.
Not that I agree with Sun doing it either.
I don't know. Like I said I have to sit on this one for a bit. I might have more to say (terrifying, I know). I might not. But this one will be on my mind for sure.

⭐ and/or director's commentary for Catch and Release?
Thank you!!~
Long ramble ahead... I got carried away
Okay, first of all... I had to do so much research to write this fic. Sometimes I researched things just for a single line, like the flashback in chapter 6 where 11-year-old Olly and her dad realize the actuators are genuine AI:
Ophelia’s eyes fell on the very last line of code, all the way at the bottom of the screen.  System.out.formatname(“ISAAC”); A moment later, the code jumped back to life, lines of commands once again flowing down the screen.
I've done a little bit of coding before, both block and text coding, but not anything with Java, so I ended up scrolling through a whole article on how Java formatting works just so I could bullshit a made-up command for a single line in the fic.
Above everything else, I wanted this fic to read as genuinely scientific, since the protagonist herself is a scientist. Most of that was a rampant amount of speculative biology, but it is based for the most part on actual anatomy, biology, chemistry, and engineering. I wanted it to be a little bit more genuine than the usual "superhero logic", and it was actually a fun challenge to come up with scientific-ish explanations for things like the villain cures and what have you.
Another bit of speculative biology here in the fic - Flint Marko. I obviously haven't read all the Spider-Man comics out there, so I don't know if they ever tried to give him a more scientific backstory than just "turned into sand by a particle accelerator", but here was my explanation of it:
“It’s delivered as a concentrated beam of radiation.” Peter answered, “At least, that was the plan. The sand that makes up his body isn’t… well, it’s not actually sand. They’re mutated cells that mimic the physical characteristics of sand. If we hit him with the right kind of radiation, we should be able to trigger a mutation that returns his cells to normal.”
I mean, let's be real, the "right kind of radiation" to "return his cells to normal" is total superhero-y bullshit and I freely acknowledge that, but I was pretty proud of that first bit. I mean... how would he still be alive and conscious if he was really made out of sand? Doesn't it make sense for it to be something that looks like sand and behaves like sand, but still maintains certain living properties like cellular structure?
I think if this were an actual, published novel, I'd probably pull a total Andy Weir and obsessively research every point of speculative science in this piece. As fanfic... I still did more research than I probably needed to, but I gave myself enough grace with the knowledge that my readers are reading this just for fun, and even the ones who might have more knowledge into the hard sciences would give me a bit of leeway in that.
Here's one more section from the first cure-discussion scene, since I was just really proud of that whole part of the fic:
“What if we tried converting Connors’ cure to a gaseous form?” she suggested, tapping the rough sketch she’d drawn, “I don’t think we’ll be able to get a syringe through those scales, but if we could get him to inhale it instead…” “That could work.” Norman agreed, “Though I’d suggest a fine mist rather than a gas.” “Like an asthma inhaler.” Ophelia guessed.  “Exactly.” he confirmed, “It wouldn’t require heat, only pressure.”
This one, I didn't do any initial research for, actually! I already knew the basics of how asthma inhalers worked, and the premise of "liquid to gas requires heat, liquid to more finely-distributed liquid does not", so I was actually super pleased for coming up with that on my own. I did later do a little more research into the mechanics of an asthma inhaler for when they actually built the cure, but the initial idea was all mine :)
As an author, my brain actually works very similarly to Ophelia's, which I think helped me a lot in writing this fic. I've had an interest in biology and anatomy since I was a kid (for a while, my favorite book was a children's encyclopedia on the human body), and certain things like the museum she talks about in Chapter 11 are pulled from my own life and experiences (with a little embellishment at times, of course). Also like Olly, I'm always seeking for the most efficient way to solve a problem, and I'm not going to shy away from a little research as needed.
Her perspective is remarkably fun to write! I think in some ways, she's a reflection of who I might've been if I'd tolerated college a little better. I really love learning, but the college climate was just overwhelming and stressful and it wasn't my passion. Now I'm in a career with both scientific and artistic elements, and I really do love the work that I do... and any time I want to tap into my more science-minded side, I can work on my sciencey superhero fics instead lol
____
Psst- for that star, and since I'm so late in getting the fic updated, have a little sneak peek at the next chapter!
He woke up beside her.  It was something he’d been imagining for months though, though he’d expected it to follow a very different chain of events. He certainly wasn’t expecting to feel like he’d been shoved into a massive pinball machine, with so much of his body aching that it all just became a fogged-over cloud of aimless pain, but… it was what it was, and he’d take what he had. He couldn’t change the pain, not now, but he could appreciate the rest of this.  Olly was still asleep. The bruises under her eyes had faded a bit, though he could hear her breath rasping in her throat as it failed to pass through her broken nose. Her knee was still braced, propped up on a heap of pillows, though still swollen and deeply bruised in a way that made him wince. She’d given up a lot for him, that much was clear. But she was here, right beside him, with her callused fingers wrapped loosely around his own.

I have a question for Jeff Satur
I'm gonna give some background, because I think the background is kind of funny. So, I had not heard of Jeff before watching KinnPorsche, but I started listening to his music, and he's wonderful and incredibly talented. So I've been listening to his various songs and covers for about 7 months now. I have pretty varied musical taste, but in the car I do tend to lean towards, rock/metal. I also take my nephew (who's 4) to preschool every day and I don't want him to get too hyped up, you know? So I started just playing Jeff on shuffle, because he doesn't care that it's not always English, and for me it's more about the vibe. But, because I've been listening to his music for at least 30 minutes everyday, I will hear both the English and Thai versions of the songs, some of which are ones that Jeff composed and wrote...and I have a question. What is the process for writing a song that will be sung in both Thai and English?
I am making some assumptions. I'm not a songwriter, but I would imagine that the process to writing a song goes only a couple of ways. 1) You write the lyrics first, create the flow of the song with the verses and chorus, and then you compose the melody around that, enhancing the words with the music. 2) You write the melody first, maybe with a general idea of the theme/subject of the song, and you write lyrics to match the tempo/tone of the music. 3) You sort of write both the melody and lyrics at the same time, have bits of melody and lines and then start to kind of build the song like a little puzzle, then tweak it to be more cohesive. Any songwriters out there, I'd love your input on this.
But when you have to do this process with two pretty disparate languages...I wanna know how? Like, I can fairly easily understand how you would would do a translation to English from another romance language, like French, Italian, or Spanish, yes grammatically some things are different but there's enough similarity there. Also, music does give you some leeway to like add flourishes here or there to add syllables to help match the beat of a song. But Thai, and East Asian languages in general, from what I understand, are pretty allusionary, they're like a more flowery, poetic language versus English which is often straight to the point. So an expression in Thai would be six, seven, eight words to express what might be the equivalent of 3 words in English. So when writing lyrics, is Jeff writing them in Thai, then translating them to English? Is he considering both languages as he writes? I know more than likely he has both in mind to some extent if he's planning to release the song in both languages, but it might be more back of his mind or constant consideration? If he does write kind of wholly in one language and then translate, is he doing a kind of word for word translation with tweaks for grammar, is it more of a expressing a similar point/emotion regardless, is it a combination of the two?
I really want someone to ask him these questions. I'm so interested in what that process could be like. If you are a multi-lingual songwriter with experience in this specific thing, I'd also love to hear your thoughts.

So I showed my partner the designs for the planets of your Four Swords space AU! As we all know, he loves sci-fi, thinks your AU is really cool, and he had thoughts he didn't know if you'd be interested in hearing. I suggested sending an ask about it so you could either address it or ignore it as you see fit. I'll let him take over from here :)
———
Hey! Love the concept of the world, the designs of the planets are really awesome! What follows is dependant on what sort of sci-fi you were going for, and I look forward to reading the story regardless, but if you're going for a kinda realistic sci-fi setting, the order of the planets bears some thought - there might be story reasons they're in the order they are in though?
So there's an area around all stars known as the goldilocks zone, which is the area where its close enough to the sun for water to be a liquid, and far enough that its not a gas and the planet can retain an atmosphere. There is some leeway there, based on the size and mass of the star and planets, and other gravitational forces acting, so here are some thoughts below:
Eldin would make sense to be closest to the star, the presence of denser metals is more common in the inner planets, and it'd naturally make the planet much hotter. The larger gravitational forces by the stellar proximity would also give an excuse for lots of tectonic instability, so volcanoes, earthquakes, even magma fields.
Ridgeland could be next, or further out, but hot and fairly arid could place it at the edges of the goldilocks zone either way.
Ordon and Haze could be further out, as twin planets would exert strong gravitational forces of each other, which could help water remain liquid. Also having them further would make Hylia's light dimmer, which seems appropriate for the twilight realm?
The Plains seems most earth-like, so would probably be slap bang in the middle.
The Domain would also have to be pretty firmly in that zone given its relative scale and limited surface ice, if it's a little further in than the Plains that'd likely mean much more atmospheric moisture and strong weather systems, a little further out and there'd be less rain and more ice.
Hebra looks like it'd be a bit further out than Plains too, though not as far, as it does appear to have liquid water, but I'm guessing it's much colder.
Lost Haven looks pretty temperate, but I feel like it might be deliberately distant or remote in some way? There's always ancient technology and planetary climate controls, but another thought could be to have it ad the counter-orbital to Plains, orbiting at the same distance but always on the far side of the sun, so impossible to directly observe. There have been theories of a counter-earth in our own solar system since the Ancient Greeks!
This was maybe a bit all over the place, so putting them all in the order I'd guess:
Eldin, Ridgeland, Domain, Plains (Lost Haven), Hebra, Ordon/Haze!
Hello Kalh's partner! I have heard a lot about you! Mostly that you enjoy sci-fi, honestly, which is evident here. I'm glad you like what I have so far, and I hope you forgive me for my sci-fi sins, as I am a more casual enjoyer. I am, of course, not aiming for any kind of scientific accuracy, but little bits of accuracy can definitely help the world feel more grounded and perhaps even spawn plot points. :D
I have to admit that my first doodle happened during class... So the questions of spacing and position occured to me, but I didn't spend brainpower figuring that out at the time. Now, though, I have arrived home early, and um. Yeah. Anyway.
First off, your suggestions are right on the money. They're exactly what I was halfway thinking, but you put them into actual words that make sense. Eldin is like Mercury, Ridgeland is like Tatooine, the Plains is like Earth, Domain is like Jupiter but if Jupiter were covered in liquid... et cetera. I hadn't thought of Lost Haven being a counter-world for the Plains, but now that you say that, I really like it.
(I was sort of thinking that Lost Haven might have its own mini-star out there, but I was worried about gravity. Stars are... really heavy, and it doesn't make sense to have even a tiny star orbiting like a moon. I like this better.)
Second, I have this idea that is probably entirely ridiculous, but it's also cool, so I'm going with it. The star Hylia is hotter on the top than it is on the bottom, thus turning that livable zone into a cone rather than a ring. Orbits aren't necessarily even, either, so planetary seasons are further exaggerated by that difference. I have yet to do too much thinking about each planet's seasons, ecology, and so forth, though, and I'm not sure how detailed I'll get with it.
I am also very much not sure what the three goddess planet/star things are doing...
These new illustrations are still not to scale, but the planets are positioned much better now!

Alright, y'all, I've been in a mood lately so I'd love to start some more RPs. I play primarily Blaine (I'm willing to do Sebastian but I write him very very soft so be prepared if you want that). I'd like to RP mainly Seblaine but I will also go for a Klaine with a fun plot.
I'd like to rp on discord. For Seblaine, I don't care about the plot or timeline I just like RPing them. For Klaine, I'd like to do some kind of AU or canon divergence but we can talk about it.
I am perpetually busy so I'm not a 5 message a day responder the way I'd like to be. Generally at least once a day if not a little bit more but there are definitely days that I can't be on. So please don't be frustrated. I'm looking for something long-term. Also I'm 31 so please be 23+. I could give a little leeway but it makes me feel better to have somebody closer to my age.
Send me an ask/message and I'll send you my discord or message me on discord if we're already friends on there. I'm also interested in trying again if we've RPed before because I know several have been abandoned by either me or my RP partner as happens. ♥

OKAY TWO QUESTIONS FROM SOMEONE NEW TO ENJOYING YANS
what separates a soft yandere from a hard yandere?
how do you “push” or “bring out” the hard yandere from a soft yandere?
WELCOME 2 THE CLUB !! 😁😁
Under the cut bc . I ended up talking quite a bit lmfao.
TW dark content, yandere, discussion about heavier elements like abuse, violence, murder, kidnapping, escape attempts, punishments.
I dont think there's a clear cut 'This is what a soft/hard yan would do' rulebook to follow or a certain mould for each, but for me I've always imagined the soft yan to take the nicer approach to getting their darling. Theyre considered more tame and less of a 'threat' (to the darling but also to others around them. Tho i think even a soft yan could be pushed to harm others). And i tend to associate darker/heavier tropes to a hard yan - things like mental/emotional/physical torture, body mutilation, affinity to violence/breaking a bone as punish type beat - because they tend to think light of the more extreme methods to get what they want. Whereas a soft yan would imo want something that resembles a somewhat normal relationship, they might only delve into darker things (maybe still not as extreme as the things mentioned before) if need be.
For instance if the yandere kidnaps their darling, I'd imagine a soft yan would give them their own room, let them explore the new house, give them some freedom & ease them into the situation a little more. Whereas a hard yan might chain them right off the bat and force them to fit into the situation. But that's not to say it has to be one way or the other, like the soft yan could also lock the darling up. I would just think that they'd do it in a nicer way, e.g. still giving them some leeway to move around the room where a hard yan might make the chain short; a soft yan might spend more time with their darling where a hard yan might decide to neglect their darling a little, give them a lesson, so to speak, that'll end with the darling realising there's nowhere to go but stay by their side. Ultimately, i just relate a hard yan to the more extreme methods, but i think it's important to bear in mind that even if the hard yan goes is willing to go to extreme lengths, they're a yandere. It's all coming from a place of love - a twisted, delusional perception of it, but love nonetheless.
(I point that out just because i see things tagged as yandere! character but it'll be like 'reader gets stuck somewhere. character fucks them for the power trip and then never does anything w them after that' and that's what I'd call dark! character as opposed to yan! char bc there isn't that element of lovesickness which is... literally what yandere means.)
I think the difference btwn them is just something fun to explore at the end of the day, and you can do it by asking yourself different questions. Like i gave the kidnapping example, but another might be murder: is it necessary? a soft yan might not kill then, but they could if their character is otherwise someone who likes planning ahead or makes a point to always tie loose ends. how do they do it? do they ever show it off to the darling? why? how? etc etc. This post +here talks abt the danger levels of a yan some more if you're interested!!
For your second question, i dont think there's always a hard yan in a soft yan, so there might not ever be something to 'bring out' - but it could lead to punishment in other, softer ways. I think it all depends on the character and their own limits. E.g. a purely soft yan might neglect you for a couple of days but that same offence might make a different character act out and accidentally break their darling's bone (which seems more soft -> hard. I imagine a hard yan might do it on purpose and might not give the same aftercare/treatment or express sorrow over the situation). But yeah i think the push from one to the other is individual to the character; in rin's case i said he's a hard yan in the shell of a soft one bc i imagine him to want a normal relationship, but he knows that if push came to shove, he'd at least be willing to do the more extreme methods. E.g. if darling kept trying to escape, rin might eventually break a leg so you learn your place (which I'd say is the soft -> hard push) whereas nagi would probably just keep you chained up, i cant imagine him ever resorting to physical violence like that (which I'd say is just soft). A hard yan might break a bone on the first attempt, but rin might do it after the 10th. I think it all just depends on the character's limits and how much they can handle before they snap - if they ever do. It depends on their capacity for the things you deem dark, and then how much patience they have before they show you that darkness.
And i think the push would come from the darling not conforming to what the yandere wants, not settling into the relationship, not listening to them, not reciprocating their feelings. I gave the example of escape attempts but it could be lots of little, 'less serious' things piling up, like not welcoming the yandere home in the proper manner, not making food on time, not using petnames, talking back, rolling eyes, etc. These things might be seen as less serious, but maybe a welcome home kiss is something the yandere has always looked forward to, so they view not getting that as more disrespectful than an eye roll - this is where looking into the intricacies of the character's background would be helpful! Ultimately, it depends on the character and what they want out of the relationship, and what they want from their darling, and whether or not they're getting that. How long can they last until they're fed up of not being satisfied? How do they deal with that?

Fairy Tail Reread 2023 part 1
I'll be rambling here about the first book.
I'm getting the hang of this so I apologize for the wonkiness right from the start. 😅
It's been one year since I read the manga so I'll be going into this as if I'd forgotten most of the story, yeah?
Okay, let's get started!!
So, we start with Siegrain and Ultear and the Council and it's pretty ominous. Especially how Fairy Tail is such a thorn in the side.
And then, Natsu and Happy. The introduction of the MC is quite silly because we're being introduced to this character who's totally KO after riding the train. And more silliness ensues. Very lighthearted feeling.
Then Lucy appears. We're introduced to our other MC. She's complaining about the lack of magical stuff at that store. And we're also introduced to another of Mashima's staples, a sleazy chara saying dumb stuff and a female character amping the sexiness to have some leeway or whatever. Not a great thing to say about Mashima if that's how he sees women... Then again, her "wiles" weren't useful here but, hey, the story is started after the short but kind of enough introductory notes about the charas.
Lucy got under the spell of the so called Salamander and I like that she's fighting it, but ultimately she succumbs to it. But is saved by Natsu. The quest for Igneel sure is a long one.
Natsu's face of "who the fuck are you?" cracks me up. And how he's tossed aside by the groupies is also pretty silly. You treat the MC like that, dude?
We're then introduced to another side of Natsu, the glutton. Lucy looks a bit disgusted and, tbh, me too Lucy, me too. And through the conversation we're introduced to the main space, the core of the manga - the guild of Fairy Tail. The conversation flows nicely and it introduces the charas a bit more, with OTT reactions happening too but that does make sense, in context, in some way. Also, the cringe in Lucy was at the top now at the beginning - being in the guild will erode it haha.
Lucy's wish/goal of being part of Fairy Tail puts her in danger but we're still seeing that she sees the warning signs (she didn't drink the wine) and then the veil is lifted about the whole trafficking operation. And Lucy is nearly branded a slave and her keys thrown away but Natsu appears! But the tension was slightly broken due to the silly moment of Natsu's motion sickness but it quickly snapped back to "serious business" mode. Or rather, Lucy's escape and recovery of keys and Aquarius - where we also get another basis to a core relationship - sending everyone to firm land. And now Natsu's jumping to the serious business and, surprise, surprise - he's Natsu from Fairy Tail. The real one.
Ass is kicked and the trio ends up escaping the cops (it's what they are) and going home.
The guild is not boring and makes the guys at the Council stay on their toes, that's what we get from the closing of the chapter.
As a first chapter this does open up a lot of possibilities and has a lot of potential. And then, we're about to step inside the guild and who knows what kind of wonders might come from it...
Chapter 2 & 3 (idk why but it's how it's coming rn)
Lucy's dream comes true. She steps inside Fairy Tail.
It's a different world, inside. And we quickly are introduced to some characters. Yay Gray! And Cana pointing out he's naked. Lucy starts to see that there's something odd in this place. And how her idols are pretty much human.
It's chaos, with everyone fighting. Poor Makarov... his kids do give him huge headaches.
But.
The heart of the story is shown here. Follow their own path, that's how the mages from Fairy Tail go.
And like that Lucy has joined the guild.
We're shown a bit more of Natsu's background and it really is sad, seeing little Natsu so happy with Igneel and then, loss.
Then we have the first mission: find Macao.
Lucy gets to show some more of her magic and the Vulcans are so lecherous, sheesh.
We get to see some fight scenes and here Natsu shows once again that, he can kick ass during battles. He's good at this shit. (Remember that, Mashima? You used to write Natsu like this!) And the moments of silliness again break the tension but the fighting is serious and Natsu kicks ass.
They recover Macao and return home. Family should be reunited.
The chapter ends in a very feel-good way and it's not a bad thing.
Lucy is our narrator and she hopes for good things in the future. It's a nice way to get started on this long adventure.
Chapter 4
One thing I liked about the anime was also how they always introduced Magnolia, the location and the guild of Fairy Tail (and the music is epic). We're kind of welcomed back to this place that we belong. This chapter starts with the location too. Well, Lucy's home, which is an important place too. And Natsu and Happy are hanging there already. The poor girl doesn't know it but her house is nearly their lair now...
We learn a bit more about Lucy and what being a celestial mage entails and basically is. And here's Plue, from Rave Master. I haven't read that (yet, maybe?) but these cameos and silly spirits did kind of disappear later on during the story. Not saying that they aren't there but to me it feels like it's more background stuff. I understand that it was because of the tone of the story, it got more serious. But I don't mind Plue.
Natsu invites Lucy to go with her on a mission. And we learn that this dumbass took a mission that was forbidden to his level.
Natsu, I love you but, you need to reflect more. I totally understand wanting to be challenged by stronger foes but, c'mon. xD
That's how you land yourself in hot water! I totally understand Makarov's stress though. He, like a good parent, wants to protect his family from unnecessary risks and troubles but what to do with such a rowdy and - I'll say it - crazy crowd?? Someone's going to get grounded.
And then, hey there, Gray!
I like Gray smoking. I totally understand that it sets a bad idea for kids because smoking irl is very bad for your health, lung cancer and any cancer whatsoever isn't good. But, Gray smoking to me, speaks of a bit of an oral fixation and, honestly, it connects him to Natsu. As someone who does ship Natsu with Gray, having Gray smoke means a lot. I totally headcanon him as stopping later on but he will fall back to the not-so-great habits in times of stress and turmoil. That's how Gray rolls.
And we're on for the first arc, the one that made me really go "yeah, I like this a lot". The Galuna Island arc!

This may be old news to everyone, but I just started thinking about the parallels between these two pairs the other night and I think it's really interesting. The places they're similar, where they differ, how the relationship between each set parallels the relationship between the other set... So, I thought I'd write a little meta about it!
Ozai and Zhao
Of course, these two got along very well. I don't remember if we ever saw them interact, but it's pretty apparent just from the way Zhao kept on getting promoted that Ozai approved of him. And it's no wonder, really... Zhao was very similar to him.
They both are aggressive, dictatorial with those under their command, and get angry easily. While Ozai is generally colder, they both lash out at others when they get upset. They use their power as a battering ram to get their way, but also will use tricks or underhanded methods when necessary to save their pride or keep themselves safe (Zhao attacking when Zuko's back was turned/Ozai hiding and sending Azula out as a decoy on the Day of The Black Sun). They're ravenously ambitious, driven to achieve ultimate glory for themself with little to no care for the cost.
Both have built their entire lives and career on destruction, with each having an ultimate goal that consists of utilizing their own power to defeat a great spirit. Zhao was inspired by his trip to the Spirit Library; I don't remember if it was said where or when Ozai learned about Sozin's comet, but it's possible it came from the library or the Fire Sages. If that's the case, the parallel works even better - both would have used knowledge that ultimately came to them from spirits, against them. They want to achieve total mastery over the world, up to and including all other peoples and spirits. This ironically leads to both their downfall: Zhao angered the Ocean Spirit when he killed the Moon Spirit, and it killed him shortly afterwards. Ozai tried to personally defeat the Avatar during Sozin's Comet, and was instead defeated and neutralized. Each person's overreaching led to their ultimate loss, and the loss of the great forces they commanded as well.
Zhao acts as an Ozai stand-in early on in the show. He fights Zuko in an Agni Kai, and constantly disrespects both him and Iroh. Where he's sent and what he does gives us insight into the kind of things Ozai values as well, since he was always supported by the Fire Lord. Zhao represented the true might of the Fire Nation, and its greed and arrogance. When he fights Aang at Jeong Jeong's hideout, his lack of discipline and shortsighted attacks wind up destroying his own fleet. At the end of the show, Ozai's inability to resist seeking even greater glory for himself as Phoenix King resulted in him dividing his forces and he left himself open for the resistance to defeat them. It also is a nice parallel to the way that Ozai's rapid industrialization to further his war effort is poisoning his own people, as seen in the Painted Lady episode.
Their arcs boil down to the same thing:
dissatisfied in a lesser position, they make a bid for their own power
becoming powerful figures in the Fire Nation war machine
enmity with Zuko/Aang, and Iroh/Jeong Jeong along the way
bringing all their forces to bear on a gigantic attack that targets a very important and powerful spirit (Moon/Avatar), the loss of which would harm the world as a whole but would achieve FN dominance in the short term
said attack is their downfall
Iroh and Jeong Jeong
Iroh and Jeong Jeong are the less obvious parallel among the two, because they do actually have a lot of differences as well. Still, the ways they contrast are revealing as well as the ways they parallel, and their overall arcs share a surprising bit in common.
Both were powerful and well-known firebending masters. Admiral in the Navy and General in the Army respectively, they both became disillusioned about the war and left their organizations. Iroh's position as Crown Prince gave him leeway to call off his invasion and then pretty much just wander off on a spirit journey in his grief without real personal consequences. Ozai stole his position, but Iroh wasn't branded a traitor at the time or anything - still, if he hadn't been in the royal family, I'm pretty sure what he did would've been treated as desertion. Jeong Jeong actively deserted the Navy and was immediately hunted down. That he was the first deserter to survive made him extremely well known.
It's unclear at what point both of them joined the White Lotus. It's possible that they both joined shortly after they stopped fighting in the war, in which case they would have been member for years and likely known of one another even while Iroh was nominally still on the side of the Fire Nation.
Both of them based their identity for a long time on being teachers. The difference here is that Iroh tried to teach Zuko a better way after he's been disillusioned. Jeong Jeong taught FN soldiers before his own epiphany, and when he lost his faith, he lost it in firebending as well. He decided that he would never teach again, and only was reluctantly intimidated into briefly teaching Aang. Teaching being so important to both of them but at different points in their development is directly related to some of the most distinct differences between the two of them.
Both of them are thoughtful characters, who spend time meditating and considering their place in the world. They both are more drawn to defensive styles of fighting, and even after they leave the FN war effort, they lay low for a long time before actively working against the FN. However, while Iroh believes that the value in other forms of bending can inspire new understanding of and appreciation for firebending, Jeong Jeong only contrasts other bending forms as being inherently better than firebending, which he views as something to be conquered and controlled in order to prevent destruction, a "burning curse." Hence, his emphasis on discipline. Iroh has met and learned from the Sun Warriors that fire is life; this is a lesson Jeong Jeong never got, and it's apparent what a difference that makes. I think their attitudes are best crystallized with their reaction to waterbending: Jeong Jeong is jealous that he couldn't have been born with the healing bending, whereas Iroh observes their fluidity and it inspires him to create a new defensive firebending move.
Despite Iroh's depression and slow build to action, he is fundamentally more hopeful than Jeong Jeong. His goal is to raise Zuko to lead the FN to a better future. This is in direct opposition to Jeong Jeong's desire only to stop further destruction as much as possible. By giving up on teaching, he's abandoned firebending itself as well as any hope for the future; in Iroh's case, that's exactly what has inspired him into action instead of just sitting around while Ozai gradually took over the world.
In a way, Jeong Jeong is an alternate Iroh. What he could have been if he didn't ever learn that fire is just as important as the other elements, and has more to it than destruction. And it's a dark future - as represented by their students. When Aang tries to learn from Jeong Jeong, both his and his teachers' attitudes are unhealthy, and his impatience/Jeong Jeong's derision for his own bending lead Aang to vow never to firebend again. This attitude is dangerous and becomes a stumbling block for him later on. If he never progressed past it, he wouldn't have been able to defeat Ozai. However, he did learn firebending in the end - and he learned it from Iroh's student. Iroh's attitudes about firebending, while initially being very different to Zuko's, eventually did get through to him. With the lessons he learned from Iroh as a foundation, and the trip to the Sun Warriors being the final key, he is able to practice a more whole version of firebending and teach Aang the same, fostering a healthier future. Without Iroh's perspective, Zuko wouldn't have changed. Aang wouldn't have learned firebending. Their victory wouldn't have happened without the hope that Iroh represents; Jeong Jeong's pessimism is just as unhelpful in the end as no guidance at all.
Despite this "alternate self" contrast, their overall careers parallel in the broad strokes:
powerful and important firebenders and members of the military
became disillusioned and left
joined the White Lotus
didn't take direct action against the FN for years
helped Aang against the FN
freed Ba Sing Se from the FN during Sozin's comet
Ozai + Iroh and Zhao + Jeong Jeong
I kind of said all the main stuff already, so I'm not going to write anything long here. Ozai and Zhao are a straightforward and direct parallel; Iroh and Jeong Jeong are more of a "what could've been" parallel marked just as much by their contrast.
I do have just a couple of notes about the way each pair matches the other pair, though:
Ozai was the younger brother, and Iroh was the Crown Prince/an accomplished warrior. Zhao used to be Jeong Jeong's student.
Zhao leaving Jeong Jeong's tutelage parallels Ozai attempting to slip past Iroh in the order of succession. Both only wanted power and were impatient to get to their own career/unwilling to remain as a student or lesser prince
Zhao claiming Jeong Jeong is reduced to savagery/Jeong Jeong retorting that Zhao is the savage who only embraces the destruction in fire. This parallels Iroh and Ozai's views on one another, though they don't have a conversation to air it all out like that; it's still apparent from how they talk about one another.
Heavily implied that Jeong Jeong and Iroh are both greater masters of firebending with better technique, even if they aren't necessarily as strong as Zhao and Ozai. Still, neither directly fights their opponent. Jeong Jeong puts up a wall of fire and flees; Iroh simply never faces down his brother. Both times, the final confrontations are left to their students, Aang and Zuko. (Aang ultimately defeats both, but Iroh vs. Ozai has always been more about the position of Fire Lord and future of the nation, and he clearly leaves that challenge to Zuko.)

HELLO FELLOW P2 CORE ENJOYERS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I bring to you: Our Guys :) and their headcanons I have for them. Did you know they're all Honduran I know because I'm Honduran too
ANYWAYS this is a sort of spoof AU where Everything Is Fine Actually and the cores are androids but also humans working at Aperture. Because I know that we need an excuse for Rick to justifiably fight a raccoon in the middle of a park on saturday calling this bad boy the Guy Quartet
General Headcanons
All of them work in completely separate departments. It's dubious if anyone actually likes Wheatley (/J). Rick got put in the fucking basement. BUT they all kept getting sifted into the same assignments that now they just talk to each other frequently. But that was preceded by SO MANY awkward overlapping lunch breaks
Once they all start hanging out they drop into each other's jobs spontaneously. They keep getting BORED and Tomas (Fact) all you do is WATCH PEOPLE TEST can I Please skateboard in your office. Thomas keeps a little tally (Milo (Space) visits the most and Rick gets visited the most GO AWAY THIS IS TOP SECRET)
Aperture constantly wants to fire them So Bad because none of them do much work. But Milo also says they are simply Having Fun :) and Tomas keeps either A) vouching for everyone or B) getting someone else fired
The only ones genuinely happy to be at Aperture are Milo and Rick. Milo has gone to college AND university to pursue a higher degree in astrology-related fields and Rick Just Fuckin Loves Danger
Rick keeps bringing in rabid animals he finds in the parking lot and it scares the living hell out of Wheatley. Coincidentally, Milo and Tomas are unaware of this habit Rick has
The individual headcanons will be under the cut :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I THINK SPACE SHOULD STOP BEING DEPICTED AS A CHILD FOR ONCE SO HE'S GOING FIRST
Out of the four of them he's the smartest by a longshot. Started taking college classes in Highschool, and hasn't broken a sweat since third grade multiplication tables. He's the head of Aperture's Space Department (but usually doesn't stick around for busywork...)
Even if he's incredibly intelligent, he actually loves having fun! He's the one who coaxed the CEO into having various 'Bring your ____ to Work' days. Mostly because he needed an excuse to let random animals lounge around without getting in trouble.
He also does tours of Aperture for students! Because he likes teaching :)
But also has a very bad habit of giving kids his I.D so they can go look at cooler stuff off the tour under the pretense "Milo let us do it" and they can't just Fire Him
Milo is known as more of an enigma than a higher up by most. While he gladly reminds people of just exactly where he stands in the company by showing his I.D, he also likes to give into the rumors often
YOU KNOW THAT ONE MEME THAT'S LIKE "They'll never believe you" THAT'S MILO FUCKING WITH APERTURE EMPLOYEES
The reason he went for any other company is because his father used to work here, but as an astronaut. One trip up to the moon, he never came back down. Milo plans to find out just what happened to him, no matter what.
Rick Cambeiro - 37 - He/Him
Tumblr media
Rick is one of the few people in Aperture that would Kill for this job. Even when it starts going to shit.
And that job is being a security guard: he can fuck around and join lots of experiments unprompted! LET HIM TOUCH THE UNUSUALLY COLORED JELLY
He's loud and constantly bugs any woman within a ten feet radius, but actually reads frequently! His favorite is fiction and poetry, and usually takes his breaks quietly with a book.
He wants to fist fight three tigers at once to impress women BUT APPARENTLY THEY ALSO LIKE INTELLIGENT MEN SO.
Rick considers a bro bond stronger than anything else. Everyone calls it pretty gay but he SWEARS it's brotherly. He's like 90% sure. Wheatley frequently reaches the brink of death in hugs and Milo leaps onto Rick as a "challenge"
He's got a bit of practice with makeup, but SPECIFICALLY so he could draw on some fake scars. He had five different stories for each, all depending on who asked.
But after something happened, it seems like he's cut out that habit...
Rick loves wandering around for various odd jobs for a security guard, but it nets him a lot of moments where he's seeing what he shouldn't. While Rick has the most information that could easily be used for the legal downfall of Aperture, it's a double-edged sword. It's only a matter of time until he's called in to be a proper test subject.
Fact / Tomas Decastros - 26 - He/Him
Tumblr media
I'd rather die than use Craig for Fact. Also don't look at the art actually I misspelt his name ANYWAYS
Tomas works as one of the head supervisors for testing, generally watching over tests with the Aperture Handheld Portal Device. Lots of people flip between calling it the most boring job ("Glorified people-watching" - Wheatley) or the most fun one ("I told a guy a turret was supposed to be helpful one time" - Rick, moments before getting mauled)
Compared to the other people in the department, Tomas is easily the best at the job. Specifically because he actually remembers things! There's countless rules overlooked, and even then, did none of you try to read up on what we're testing!?
He's surprised he hasn't grown grey hairs.
While Milo has a lot of leeway in what he does because he's so high up, Tomas gets away with things like breaking dress code and taking triple the lunch breaks he's legally allowed to have by letting all the mishaps in testing slide.
Generally Tomas just tells people he took this job because it was all that was available, but in reality, he just can't stand how many deaths have been totaled up due to testing. He's only here because he wants to prevent as many as he can.
A habit he's well known for is spontaneously stating facts related to tests in the middle of them. Nobody ever seems to realize why he's doing it, or calls him out for being a hypocrite since he doesn't let anyone else talk to the test subjects. Outright stating a solution is against the rules, but merely mentioning a fact isn't, right?
Wheatley [REDACTED] - 34 - He/Him
Tumblr media
Yeah that's right Wheatley's last. I know he's my no. 1 but also you WILL read about the other cores. Unless you skipped in which case </3
Anyways, my favorite fact about him: Wheatley is his first name. Nobody knows his last name. It's dubious if he even has one. Everyone just calls him Wheatley.
He's well known around the entirety of Aperture because he used to work at the front desk. It was the """"perfect job for him""" (- Wheatley) but it also started making employees use different entrances because he talked so much. And loudly too.
The pay was pretty good since his ACTUAL job was making sure various health and safety workers didn't get past the front (It seems the constant talking and making people go away DID work out!)
Eventually he gets promoted out of nowhere to be a scientist, even though he has no education awards/diplomas/certificates/literally anything to back himself up. It also happened to be about three hours after he typed in this pretty big number for something... Had to do something with the moon. Maybe a percentage of how much he liked it?
Well, he LOVES the moon. Which is why he put about 95%. Not sure what that did.
He's completely clueless, but all of his scientist coworkers actually hate him. He's got no reason to be here, and he keeps messing experiments up! It drives them up the wall! So their best course of action...
Signing Wheatley up for a week's work on the GLaDOS project.
He seemed a bit antsy, but with reassurance from his coworkers, it seemed fine. He came out of there three days earlier than planned because he had to be hospitalized for severe wounds.
Wheatley still works in the same department, and unfortunately didn't get a paid leave... But at least these scars look cool, eh?

Spoilers for the latest chapter of Something!
I'm gonna go ahead and apologize now because this is long; please feel free to ignore my wordy ass, I just have a lot of feelings about a certain someone that showed up in the new chapter lol.
I am still trying to get my shit together enough to write a proper review, but I did want to come yell at you for making the grape boy somewhat likeable, like...
Firstly, how??? Secondly, why?????!?!
Lmao, in all seriousness tho, it's nice to see him have a personality that isn't just "Mmmm, tits" *drools* I like to think that everyone in the series grows up and (mostly) out of the worst of their habits, and while Mineta is still a bit of a lecher here he isn't nearly as offensive/creepy as he comes off in show. In fact he's actually sympathetic in a lot way. The bit about seeing his first dead body before "getting laid" hit different like... He tries to play it off like a joke, but dude has to have just as much PTSD as the rest of them, maybe even more given that he wasn't able to fight back in the same way as someone like Bkg or Deku would be able to with their super powerful offensive quirks. They were all just kids, but they had to face hell full on from jump, and let me stop before I get too in my feelings lol.
In a lot of ways, he reminds of you the boys from school — crude. Taking for granted the safety from being in a pack, unchallenged. Leering at posters, saying off-colour things because no one corrects them.
That's exactly the way I view him, just a crude little thing that refuses to be put in his place for long lol. Still, with his being a hero I would hope that he keeps a cap on it while he's on the job--in fact I'm sure he does; if he didn't I'm sure that Aizawa would've yanked his licence by now, the likes of Deku and Kiri wouldn't continue to associate with him, and that's saying nothing of the shit that would get posted to social mead and such. I feel like the only reason he says what he says to the Reader is b/c she's a little gremlin herself and he knows he's got a bit more leeway, yanno?
The little hangout session that they had at the end of the chapter was weirdly heartwarming?? I want a friend(???) that I can be a surly little shit with and draw on and that will call my bf that's not really my bf but should be my bf because he's (that is Mineta) got more emotional intelligence than me lmao. Never thought I'd see the day when the grape would make for such an excellent wingman--tho I gotta wonder what that text he sent to Deku said. Probably something along the lines of "come get yo girl, she must be bored/lonely af because she asked to hang out with me" followed by "are you ever gonna close the deal or not? or have you already hit it??? >:)" just to give the guy an extra push (or maybe he's got a better sense of self-preservation than what I give him credit for, idk lmfaooo...)
Okay, this is WAY too long, I just had to get it out of my system lol. I loved the new chapter lots and I cannot wait to see how things play out in the next one!!
LOL, oh Puck, i adore you sdlkfjsdlkfjsdlkfj
me being a shit-stirrer/asking myself questions i don’t have answers for under the cut
Tumblr media
Cat asked me this question earlier today, actually — why Mineta. And honestly? Part of it is the challenge he represents — like, how do you write him into a fic and mature him up so that he’s at the very least, tolerable, but also keep the backbone of his character (which is being a little degenerate). Like, is it possible? One of the most popular tags on ao3 for mineta minoru is something along the lines of “mineta minoru is replaced with shinsou hitoshi” LOL so…….. why didn’t I just use Shinsou? Or Aoyama or Iida, as Cat suggested? And beyond the part of me that delights in giving myself perceived challenges, there were two stark reasons that stuck out to me, when i was first mulling over his inclusion.
1) the fact that he can draw. it’s literally as simple as that. ever since the BNHA exhibition opened up in Japan and it was revealed that there was a scene in there with a class blackboard and the kids having their little drawing competition — and that Mineta was objectively the most skilled — i was like, “i have to include that”. LOL. it’s like you say, Puck, our Reader is a little gremlin herself — i thought if I was going to write a Reader that could handle interacting with him (ie, be in a position to pay him out) it was going to be this one. I think being in the manga industry and starting out on this journey of creating and drawing a Shonen manga sort of put Reader in this unique position of… being in what seems like a boys’ club? So she’d be used to the male gaze within her field. I follow Horikoshi’s assistant (former assistant?) on twitter and let me tell you, that man is not shy about the things that he likes to draw LOL.
the 2) thing was the philosophy i’ve sort of accidentally given myself LOL and that’s the fact that — as a Bakugou stan, if i’m giving grace to a character who was a literal violent bully then………. i can use my magic powers and hand it around to the other characters, too, LOL. and like, i would argue that with Bakugou it’s different, like we’re currently seeing in the manga how he has grown and learnt and is actively changing, which is the key to any kind of redemption. do i think Mineta will ever undergo that in cannon? absolutely not lmao, i see him as being being Hori’s idea of comedic relief, he’s always going to be a horrible little degen. but i want it for him…… if only to justify why the boys of Class-A collectively ignore his bullshit, for the most part? Like, none of them actively call him out on it?? i think of the time he tried to climb the wall to spy on the girls in the onsen — and how it was literally only Iida scolding him and how it took a child to stop him. Or the one when he found the stupid hole into the girl’s changing room and while the boys all looked grossed out….. Jirou’s the one that point an end to that?????? I saw a TikTok (derogatory) suggesting how like, none of the girls of Class-A would trust Aizawa, as adults, because he didn’t do anything to put an end to Mineta’s bullshit, and it was a devastating suggesting. None of us want to believe that our favourites would be passively okay with this kind of behaviour, right?? Which means……. Mineta’s gotta change LMAO. And if Hori isn’t going to do it then imma borrow him and do it myself. Does it work? I have no idea LMAO i can’t judge anymore, my meter is broken. but i’m gonna work with what i’ve given myself and it either will, or it won’t LMAOOOO kldsfjlksdjflkdj fic is about having fun at the end of the day. :’)
But it’s like you point out, Puck — Mineta is also a child, when these kids get trotted out to their first War. And he’s also not as offensively built as the hard-hitters like Deku and Bakugou and Shouto are. Even if it’s not explored in the manga, that War is going to change them all somehow.
So, my gameplan for Mineta was to grab ahold of the tiny things about him — the talent for drawing, the like one [1] observation he has about the wreckage of the war/pro heroes during the war arc, his tears for Bakugou when B wakes up afterwards and how he tells Deku how cool he was and how much he admires him, in the current Bring Deku Home chapters — and try to envision a sleaze bag who learns that the bullshit he pulls won’t be tolerated, even if he’s still ultimately a skeeze LOL. i mean, he’s never going to drop that er…. appreciation for the female form. and i mean, hey, live your best life King, i’ve distinctly noticed a hand-fetish floating around on this site lately so i’m not gonna be like “NO men can’t like ANYTHING”. But the thing with him being a sleaze and open with his leering is like, he’s actively made the girls of his class uncomfortable with that in the past — how do you write it so that he’s not doing that in a position of power with the women he works with (and saves!), as an adult?? Maturity only goes so far. How much can I bank on the war and the subsequent bullshit they’re gonna face from it on…. transforming him??? It shouldn’t be up to the girls he’s learning with to police him, they’re just children. I have a vague gameplan for it — whether or not it works will be one thing; whether i can naturally shove it into the fic is another, LOL. Guess we’ll see. 🧐
SAYING ALL THAT,,,,, i’m actually really glad you liked (???) the ending scene with him because it’s my favourite LMAO lkdjflkdsjflkdjfkldsjf. 😭😭 Reader is by no means perfect, and she and Mineta both need to start treating each other with more respect, but her bullying of him was fun to write and I like imagining a Mineta who considers himself to be close with Deku (whether or not Deku thinks the same is up for debate) going along with it. i could see this version of Mineta being enough of a shit-stirrer to say something like, “gotta lock that shit down” to Deku LMAO kdfjlkdsjflkdsfjdklsfj and then getting left on a skyscraper somewhere…. RIP short King.

hello good sir (sir being a gender neutral term), i'd like to send some p r o m p t s. so i haven't played ucn in a LONG time, but some ideas off the top of my head: toy freddy (would be funny), funtime foxy (cause they're a bitch), n. fredbear and maybe nightmare (cause they're twisted versions of his b e l o v e d fredbear), and maybe foxy+bonnie (cause it's a bitch). just some ideas! also, being a man of culture, i'd like to request some tortu- jk, jk (i'd say sth funny but character limit).
(I will fight you for this ask. I will come to you home and pick you up and fling your body into space and into literal Among Us. My brain was going a mile a minute trying to gather enough coins to get rid of Funtime Foxy, and keep on top of EVERYTHING ELSE- And yet I was still surprised when I finally got jumpscared. Welp, I couldn’t have predicted it, so it’s kinda fun being able to write this now. Also yes, warning for mild torment! I’m just not good at writing it- Oh, also, here’s the AO3 link to the thing: https://archiveofourown.org/works/27687695/chapters/67764007 You can read the whole thing there and I update it there as I do here. You can request over there to, but that’s beside the point)
Be on top of his games. Watch his shows. Check in, but only at the right times. Henry grinded his teeth. It was almost like he had a son again- dear god, this truly was hell, wasn’t it? For a moment he had thought the Helpy robot was joking as he elaborated on what the damn plastic piece of shit’s mechanic was- No. No cursing. He shook his head. That was being petty for no reason. He had a mechanic- and it was a stupid one- but that was better than nothing. It was better than being told “you will die” without being able to do anything about it. For a moment he frowned, a though manifesting itself in the back of his mind. … if he would know there was no way to escape the pain, he would grow numb to it. So whoever or whatever set this up seemed to have a keen interest in- The clock chimed, it was time to play. Instantly he pulled up the monitor. He had been gifted the leeway of being allowed to eradicate one of them- and dear god, he would not say no, not if it was the only chance to give a little bit of payback. He checked on Toy Freddy- a good contender to be murdered- and clicked the door of the- vacuum cleaner- dear god, this would make his brain rot- then he moved on to more sensible things, like checking on Foxy, who was thankfully out, then moving over to gathering coins. Laughter from the door. “Mister Miller… look at you. You seem stressed.” “Why yes, I am quite tense.” Without looking up he closed the doors, opening them up right away. “I have to admit to my distain of the character selection that currently is coming after me. They make no sense, you see?” Another, similarly as deep voice sounded, albeit with a brighter tint to it- “… oh, don’t be ashamed of that, Mr. Miller. They have more distain for you than you do for them.” Once more, doors closed, doors open. He didn’t even need to look. “I can assume that, yes, but that is hardly my issue, is it now? My issue is their reality bending and tedious habits.” For this round he would be stuck on the cameras, wouldn’t he? Once more he flipped over to Foxy, gathering coins and being quietly thankful for the fact that he and Bonnie had not switched places yet. He had to get this done in the first time-warped hour and if he didn’t- he wasn’t sure when exactly the clock would move over and he didn’t want to find out. The nightmare duo was chuckling, so he shortly put the monitor down to look inside of Nightmare Fredbear’s red eyes. “… what are you supposed to be?” “You have never truly understood your own creation, did you…? If it lives… it changes…” “The only nightmare I ever created were the suits and-“ He turned to the other side, spotting the more pinkish eyes shining from that frame. “… you. Are you not supposed to be me?” “I think you can answer that yourself.” Shaking his head, Henry dismissed both of them, closing the doors and opening the camera feed, checking once more on Foxy, helping out Toy Freddy and finally snatching up the last few coins he needed- instantly he moved over to the price corner, ordering one of the silver coins- His eyes darted to the clock- Oh god, only a few more moments before the timer skipped- The pink hellfox was peering out of its cove, grinning widely- a grin that instantly was replaced by an agonized and hateful scream as Henry used the coin, allowing himself for a moment to watch the machine literally being disintegrated into clear silver dust. From the side, Nightmare Fredbear chuckled. “… how cruel.” “This is a dog-eat-dog world. You should not try to inflict onto others what you are not willing to go through yourself.” “Oh? Are you ready for what is coming for you then?” Abruptly Henry started laughing, as he once more checked on Foxy, then moved to Toy Freddy. “What? What is coming for me? Being brought back to Fredbear’s, except this time I am immortal, have inhuman strength and can start honing my ability to move whatever I desire with my mind? What a terrible fate you are threatening me with, Nightmare! I am appalled! How dare you gift me with everything I have ever wanted!” One last time he switched back to Foxy, then deactivated the monitors, assuming it was best to be on Foxy’s camera right away, so when he pulled the camera back up- His eyes fell on the little figure of Bonnie that was now on the table. For the love of god, how could he have been that stupid!? Looking up at Nightmare Fredbear’s red eyes, he saw a bit of bemusement in it- that and a deep, underlaying level of pure disgust. “… will you ever learn, Mr. Miller? Will you ever realize that the resistance you have been met with was not from nowhere? Will you learn that you cursed them?” “NONSENSE.” Henry HISSED. “I considered you smart. I was wrong. The only reason the children were struggling against me because I could not yet accommodate them well enough- propaganda against me and my mission was spread. William seemed to have been just fine with his joke of a family that he had gotten himself in a flight of passing fancy. What made him different?!” There was only silence from the outside, as Henry glanced once more at the figure. Still Bonnie and it wouldn’t change. Muttering more so to himself than to the Fredbear, he stressed his point. “Nature has turned on me for taking what I desired, much like the ocean, the skies and the land has turned against humanity at every opportunity. Even in the different religious texts, humanity and to steal and take with violence what it needed to become what it was meant to be. One god banished the species in fear of them becoming immortal, much like the being itself- another wanted to deny us fire as petty retaliation, because fire brings creation- and it had to be taken back by theft.” Not quite, but close enough. He didn’t want to recount the stories. “… if you want to grow, you have to feed, and if you feed, you destroy. And so, destruction brings new creation. We feed off the old gods and create new rules. Nature does not like to be controlled and abused- all it wishes is to slowly burn itself out. Until nothing is left. But we humans preserve- we are a species who is so defenseless, yet have made it this far, by preserving knowledge, by learning early, early and as much as we can- eventually however it will come to a standstill. You can only learn so much with the time given. Until said time become infinite. Some ills of humanity can only be cured by allowing humans to permanently remain and learn. For that we need immortality.” There still was only silence and he sighed- He had wasted too much time. The Bonnie figure was still there, but he might as well get it over with, he wouldn’t get around him disabling the cameras. Quickly he closed the door to the left side where he knew Nightmare Fredbear was waiting, pulling up the cameras, to Bonnie’s aggressive scream- But before he could really boot the thing up, a giant black paw came from above grabbing the little tablet, cracking it. The Amalgamation was towering over him, black fur and metal broken up by the silver shine of its teeth. Baffled for a few seconds, Henry looked at him. “I… did not hear you.” “The others are not your problem anymore, are they now?” With its vile grin it picked Henry up by the head, an incredibly painful experience, playfully throwing him against the wall with full force- a crack was sounded and as Henry tried to stumble back on his feet, he quickly realized he couldn’t- something was damaged, so badly that the pain was too much- His head was still sharp though, the white pain barely being fended off by his mind trying to figure out how this creature could be HERE- It had been HIM, it was HIM, what would make him want to- Blood was dripping from out his mouth, tasting disgustingly mechanical- “… you… you are supposed to be ME-“ Smiling the monstrous bear-esque beast picked him up, causing another wave of incoherent, glowing pain to wash through Henry, his whole chest being just enough to fill the Amalgamation’s hand. “I was you. We have seen all your thoughts, all your ideas, we have shaped, and we have remembered. You are me. And we crave violence, Mister Miller. Your words were pretty to hear, but we do not believe them. We know what we are- a monster who thinks of itself too highly, an animal unable to resist the siren call of violence and blood. Our creation has not made us better than all the monsters we feared becoming. There is only one difference between us… … I am not ashamed of my needs anymore.” With that he started pulling on Henry’s arm, pulling as the delirious man convulsed under him- Ready to take a bite out of it. “But I do love creation too… and I cannot wait to see what we will turn you into. The brain is moldable, Henry. It does fantastical things under pain and pressure…” His other claw was digging into the human’s head. The other was pulling the now separated arm to his maw, biting down with a sickening, wet crunch. Happily he sighed.
