one thing that fucks me up immensely about pericles before and after the asylum is how fucking skinny he is.

like. as much as obviously the two designs are Very Inconsistent in general which annoys me, look at him pre-timeskip. look at how he's shaped.

his head and face are way smoother and rounder, both in front and back, and the space between his cheekbones and his eyebrow ridge is filled in; his body is rounder in general and his belly is noticeably between his thighs when he's standing up; he has kind of a chubby butt; his chin and neck are softer and wider around, which you can really see with the width of the scarf compared to his shoulders and the angle where it meets his head. it comes up in front of his face more because there's not as much of an angle with his chin to hold it down.

now. compare all those things to this.

and like, you could argue some of these design differences are tiny things to zero in on in a show that's as loose with its models as sdmi is. but present-day pericles' design is pretty obviously supposed to be unsettling because he's physically built to be a Cute Roumb Little Mascot Creature--so much so that the framework has managed to stick around a little in spite of everything--and has become gaunt and haggard anyway. and you could also argue that the body type changes are just thanks to aging twenty years (and i don't doubt that's contributed).

except. he spent those twenty years in an asylum where the other inmates we see look like this.

(fun little fact that @thecottageinthedark pointed out also: remember how he literally got caught at one point because he couldn't stop eating sunflower seeds, even during a heist? a high-fat, high-calorie snack for birds? you know, exactly the kind of thing a starving person who finally has proper access to food would be wolfing down?)

did i mention that this happened in a (fantasy) racially segregated prison, which is technically an asylum so the inmates can be kept there indefinitely, because in an actual prison you're required to have a sentence? did i mention that none of the human characters we see in human prison look any less healthy during or afterward, and on top of that are allowed to move around and socialize? did i mention the absolutely horrific treatment of the asylum inmates is implied to be despite the fact that the (physically abusive!) guard is playing up how dangerous and malicious they are? (you know. except for pericles 🙃)

did i mention the man who got pericles imprisoned--who he had not only done nothing to beforehand, but had helped--says he was there to 'live out the rest of his miserable parrot life in a cage, where he belonged,' and not only do none of the characters we're supposed to side with have anything to say about that, but the audience is clearly supposed to agree with him too?

(did i mention said man--who was in on the crime, singular, that pericles went to prison for!--spends those twenty years living a life of luxury in power while abusing the child he kidnapped as a baby and held hostage his entire life, and when we see him in prison he is not only chilling out and helping the authorities but reading a newspaper?)

did i mention the part where by the time we meet pericles he hasn't spoken in years?

like. man the 'ooooo scary evil abused asylum crazies' trope is bad enough, even when they pretend to lampshade it for a minute before playing it straight; i don't know how they added in All That and made him emaciated and expected no one to find it heartbreaking or even sympathetic. i don't care how bad he was before the asylum (and dear god was he ever), that is horrifying and no one deserves it. god damn.

My friends asked me if I wanted to join the School AU with their OCs and I thought for the longest time before bringing Lya to the party. Then I kinda just felt like it and drew the whole gang :D They came out beautifully so more information and separated images undercut!

Wears all white if she can.

Very light in weight, makes her defiant attempts usually ineffective.

Went through a lot to make things easier for her loved ones.

Skilled in segg but doesn't really enjoy it anymore at this point if it's not with her loved one. What she seeks in segg with her lover is intimacy and the feeling of security.

Secretly a meanie. Gets jealous easily and envious of almost anyone, but doesn't show it or act on it often.

Despises the Temple to her core but believes Jordan is a genuinely good person. Wanted to fuck him just because.

Protective toward her lover and the children at the Orphanage.

Very insecure about her financial state. She tried to make money anytime she could.

Male Robin the Lover~ (Sorry I love this title)

The one and only.

Maybe he's trying his best, maybe he's hiding from something so terrible, who knows.

Love the purple color.

Easily scared and would cry out loud if Lya was there to reassure him and demand a lot of hugs, head pats, and kisses afterward.

Clingy as hell, but luckily he's cute just enough to let it pass.

Hell lots of freckles, everywhere all over his body even though he mostly stays at home or in the shades. Sensitive skin then.

Squishy belly.

Occasionally cross-dress when going on a date with Lya but keeps it as a hobby only.

Love to do makeup for Lya and skin care together.

Grow in height a LOT since the game started and wondering why Lya still stays the same, not that he complains about her growth of boobs and ass.

The second PC, made with a lot of feast boots, almost all of the Vrel coins Lya earned.

Was born cuz I was bored and wanted to go to places Lya and Lyah can't go because they're worried about their lover being left alone.

They don't set a love interest because of that, so they can't get attached and can freely roam everywhere.

Enjoy segg as it is, purely seeking more pleasure day by day.

Get bored easily but are also quick to forget, so after a while that very same thing may pique their interest again.

Zones out a lot. Absent-minded. Sometimes clueless to things that are not segg-related.

For ppl studying Dracula - character study

it is time.

I am talking to y'all about possibly one of the most underrated and interesting (to me) characters in classical literature.

We are talking about Renfield.

I'm going to be talking for a while, so bear with me.

So when we first meet him, he’s introduced to us as Seward’s ‘pet lunatic’, who has a weird (gross) habit of collecting flies and spiders and eating them. But it quickly becomes clear how perceptive he is - he can tell when Dracula arrives and refers to him as ‘master’. It seems that Renfield is being set up as an antagonist at first with this almost religious worship of and possible connection to Dracula, but the more we see of him, the harder he becomes to understand. There are times when he’s the ‘pet lunatic’ with his flies and spiders, other times when he’s more excited and talking about ‘the Master’, but most importantly, there are intervals when he is very well-spoken and lucid, seemingly sane - and the interesting thing about these lucid states is that they occur at specific times, usually towards sunrise and sunset; which, if you pay attention to the timings, are THE EXACT TIMES WHEN DRACULA’S POWER IS DIMINISHED. The most important example, in my opinion, is when Renfield asks Seward (together with Van Helsing, Quincey and Arthur) to let him go home. He starts very calm, arguing his point eloquently and sensibly, trying to prove how sane he is in the moment. Seward refuses, and Renfield continues to talk, becoming more and more frustrated and desperate until he is almost hysterical, unwittingly convincing them of his insanity. But why is he so desperate to leave at this very moment? Well, the very next day is when Mina starts becoming tired and lethargic - incidentally, the very same symptoms Lucy showed when Dracula started drinking her blood. Coincidence? I very much think not. What is more, this impassioned plea to be allowed to leave happens at four in the morning - in other words, just before dawn. In other words, Renfield KNEW that, if he stayed, he would not be able to stop Dracula getting in (even if he didn’t know who he was after), and he had to leave right then because it was the only time he was actually in control of his own mind.

But the biggest thing about Renfield - he is found, beaten up with a broken back after Dracula has paid a visit. Why did Dracula bother? Because Renfield realised that he had been feeding on Mina, who was the first person to treat him as a fellow human being instead of a ‘pet lunatic’. Let me repeat: it was RENFIELD who realised. Nobody else. Not Van Helsing, who is supposed to be the vampire expert. Not her own husband, who has been at close quarters with Dracula before. No, it took RENFIELD to figure it out, despite being not entirely sane and only having seen Mina TWICE. And he ATTACKS Dracula. Unlike everyone else, he has no weapons or crucifix or anything. He attacks Dracula BAREHANDED, relying only on his hysterical strength to stop him feeding off Mina. Of course he gets hopelessly beat up. And then, despite his inherent dislike of Seward, he tells him and the others about Dracula and Mina - and pays the ultimate price when Dracula, having been confronted and chased away from Mina, takes out his anger on Renfield and smashes his face in.

But why does Renfield act the way he does? What got him into the asylum in the first place? Presumably, it's to do with the flies and spiders. After all, sane people normally don't collect flies in their room, feed them to spiders, feed the spiders to birds, etc. Yet the reasoning behind his madness is laid out when he talks to Mina about it. His theory, as he explains it, is that life can be indefinitely prolonged by the consumption of blood. Sound like anything familiar?

Renfield worships Dracula because Dracula is everything he wants to achieve. Renfield wants to be a vampire. He wants to find a way to prolong his life indefinitely in the same way Dracula has. He may not even know that much about vampires at all, but like a scientist, he experiments, and it is these experiments that brand him a lunatic.

But wait. If his goal is to become a vampire, and he attempts to attain it by sucking up to Dracula, why does he then attack him? Protecting Mina won't get him closer to immortality - in fact, it leads to his death. So how can this illogical action be explained?

My personal belief is that ultimately, Renfield wants to be accepted. He can't get acceptance from Seward or any of the other people at the asylum. We don't know much about his backstory (which, in my opinion, is criminal), but it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say that his experiments with prolonging life were a method to prove himself and gain acceptance. Maybe he used to work with someone who died, or was trying to save people with terminal illnesses. Towards the beginning of the novel, he willingly volunteers as Dracula's slave in order to gain his acceptance and possibly attain the state of vampirism.

So when he talks to Mina and she addresses him as an equal, and treats him as an intelligent human being, she has already accepted him - possibly the first time he has experienced something like this. No, I don't ship it, but this is an important turning point for the character which sets up his redemption.

Renfield is mad, but he is also extremely intelligent. As I mentioned, he is the first to notice Mina's illness. He was clearly well-educated. Again, it is criminal that we didn't get more of his backstory.

And this is why I need a Dracula adaptation in which Renfield joins the monster-hunting gang and gets Dracula busted in half the time the rest of them took.

Behold - an incomplete list of things Jonathan Harker has done:

survived for months alone in Dracula's castle, maintaining a delicate balance of not rocking the boat too far and getting killed, but never giving up fully/seizing every chance to try and learn more or find a way out (letters, wall-climbing, etc.)

the only person to harm Dracula (shovel scar) and live (the only others were Renfield and Quincey, both of whom died the same day). the only person to hit him more than once (shovel, cut his coat open, sliced off his head). one of the two people who killed him (sliced off his head if you missed that one)

escaped by climbing down a castle wall and fleeing on foot through mountains full of wolves, without any warm clothes

was the person to recognize Dracula in London, and to direct the group to Carfax

did literally all of the footwork required to track down Dracula's boxes. began this task on his own without being given direction, and was well underway on it before even linking up with the others. (insight!)

bribery! lots of bribery! using his own inherited money at least part of the time ($$$!)

also, lied to/tricked various sources that he was either still Dracula's attorney, or utilized Arthur's status, to get information (schemes!)

suggested to a surprised Seward that Renfield may be reacting to Dracula and is "a sort of index to the coming and going of the Count." (insight!)

was van helsing's biggest primary source confirming what his research said about vampires, as seen in big speech day when he told everyone 'vampires do this (as seen in Jonathan's diary)' like five separate times

was the first to move to attack Dracula on October 3 (at his house not the asylum), galvanizing everyone else into action

um, kinda a big thing that he never considered his love doomed? like. yeah. willing to go to hell/become a vampire himself to stay with Mina. willing to doom everyone else for his love if necessary but never to give up on that. fell on his knees (I'll grant you) immediately... to comfort Mina when she felt unclean. set aside his immediate impulse towards revenge in order to comfort her first.

but also. very much willing to act to prevent such an outcome? urged everyone else to get on the move so he could go kill Dracula for everything he'd done?

nonetheless, didn't put his personal catharsis/revenge above the goal. was willing to take a backseat for the sake of success in the initial plan and just play guard rather than insisting on being the one to stake/behead him.

...honorable mention again for beheading him anyway in the end. Jonathan literally killed Dracula, bud. (fucking useful!)

I love all the main characters, and am not interested in devaluing anyone's contributions. The doctors are very smart (among other things) and important. Arthur and Quincey are very rich (among other things) and important. Mina, who you failed to mention, is extremely clever (among other things) and important as well. Jonathan, surprise surprise... is also all of those things!

And I love him. He's been my favorite character since my first time reading this book long ago. I (don't actually) regret to inform you that Dracula Daily has only increased that love, as well as vindicated it by seeing many other people agree that he's a great character really screwed over by adaptations, and thus even if I were generally inclined to feel upset about these kinds of messages, this'd still miss the mark. Rather, I thank you for the opportunity to reflect on some of the many ways Jonathan was an integral part of this vampire-hunting team.

The van rolled away from the airport and headed towards one of the most infamous mental institution in the world. Arkham Asylum. Mainly known for treating various Rouges of Gotham who had been ‘admitted’ there by the Batman and his flock of birds. A few of them rehabilitated and were doing less crimes, like Poison Ivy or Harley Quinn. Others like the Joker were kept because they were a threat to Gotham. Only time will tell which category the newest patient will fall into.

“The universe is definitely laughing at me,” the patient currently in the van thought. Why else would it go through all the efforts to make her be the butt of the biggest joke in existence?

She had followed all the rules, did all the things expected of her and yet, it was never enough. She had stayed in that mold, the sweet, kind and caring girl, first shaped by the people she once believed to be her parents. Then, the ‘nice’ teacher who claimed to be on her side and never stepped in between her and the mean blonde girl, not even once. The people she once thought she could finally called friends before they all tossed her to the curb for the next shiny thing.

The responsibility, that was thrust onto her shoulders because of one man with shitty coping mechanism and terrible critical thinking skills. The beings she swore to protect who were ripped away because a group of people with twisted morals and believed themselves to be the higher power deemed her unfit.

Anyone who listened to her life story can tell that it was shit but no one ever bothered to listen to the full story.

A happy couple decided to adopt a sweet baby into their family as they were unable to have children. The baby grew up to a pretty young girl who remain friendless despite all of her efforts, due to the influence of a spoiled, rich brat and an enabling teacher. She faced all of these hardships on with a smile.

Then, it happened. We all know this part by now.

A man who was filled with grief over losing his wife and willing to destroy an entire city to get her back.

A pair of earrings and a ring were given out. 

The stone monster who was the first victim in a long line of victims of the magical terrorist, Hawkmoth, who will plague Paris for years to come. 

Two heroes, one red and one black. 

Dark butterflies and a promise of protection. 

The boy with green eyes and a ring holding out an umbrella.

The girl had gained the earrings with a great responsibility, a best friend and a crush.

She was ready to face everything with a bright smile.

Everything appeared great until it wasn’t.

It had been a year and they weren’t any closer to defeating the villain. Trouble soon walked into her civilian life in the form of green eyes and silver tongue.

False promises and tall-tales were fed to eager ears.

The girl had made another enemy and for the boy she devoted her heart to, she kept her promise and remained silent of the liar’s lies.

The girl thought that she can handle anything that came her way and continued to smile, not knowing how wrong she was.

The spoiled brat, unhappy with not being given great power she thought was destined for her. So she betrayed them all. A hard battle was fought and the side of the heroes suffer losses. Their allies were revealed and put in danger from the madman. The box, filled with magic, was passed onto the girl, a new burden that made her shoulders heavier than ever.

As a hero, the villain had became stronger with the knowledge that fell into his hand. Her partner was becoming more and more unreliable in battles and began to aggressively pursued her.

As a civilian, the green-eyed fox was slowly but surely making good on her promise, tearing apart her friendship with the class. The spoilt brat made her life even harder than before. Her parents were starting to lose their patience with her and punished her for every offence her classmates claimed that she did.

The girl held back her tears and put on a fake smile to convinced the world that everything was fine and she can handle whatever it throws at her. However, the world appears to be cracking and it was getting harder to believe that there is good in the world.

The beginning of the end started with the end of Hawkmoth.

She had taken the ring from the boy whom she had once loved and cried for days afterwards. To make up for the lack of a partner, she gave the dragon and the snake to the only two people outside the class who she still trusted. A fencer who was her former rival and now closest friend and a musician who stuck by her side through her highs and lows.

Her friendship with the class was now destroyed and the position of class president stripped from her. It hurt but she now has the time to pursue the copy of the girmoire and hone her abilities with the knowledge of magic hidden inside.

The three faced Hawkmoth in a final battle in the Agreste Mansion. After they had gotten the brooch of Gabriel Agreste and upon learning about the faith of his wife, she offered to wake the woman up in exchange for the peacock Miraculous and the girmoire.

The burden was lifted and peace settled on the city once more.

While the trio were great heroes and friends she could fully trust and rely on, they had their own budding careers that require them to leave Paris. With a sorrowful heart, she bid both of them goodbye with a necklace and a bracelet in her purse.

One day, while filled with loneliness and seeking a place where she doesn’t have to see the disappointment from her family, she came across a magician in trouble so she used her miraculous magic to save him. When the magician realised that the girl who had saved him was the former heroine Ladybug and still very much a child, he offered to teach the girl everything he know in magic to better protect herself and the Miraculous.

Months passed, the girl was thriving from the magic lessons from the one positive adult figure in her life. She looked forward to it and Zatara never had a more enthusiastic student. It made her life much more bearable. However, when the world fell into crisis for the upteemth, Zatara had to take his leave from Paris to answer the call of duty but promised to return.

It was something for her to hold onto as her classmates hurled daggers of hurtful words at her.

Honestly, the days before the incident that caused her to end up in Gotham was a blur. But she clearly remembered the day she lost her closest companions. She had returned to her now barren room and there were a few robed people thrashing it.

She recognised the symbol of the Order and demanded to know why they were there. A few who had remained hidden, ambushed from behind and held her in place as they finally found the Miracle Box. They branded her as thief and demanded her to hand over the Miracle Box. She pleaded with them that she wasn’t a thief and she had the title of Guardian given by Wang Fu.

Upon hearing the name, they told her that Fu was not an actual Guardian and that he had played her. He had stolen the Miraclue Box and created Feast to cover it up. The moment he realised the temple was back, he had given it up and pretended to have lost his memories so she will be his scapegoat. Some of the monks felt pity when they saw the girl’s horrified expression. They stopped their comrades from giving out the original punishment of death, pointing out that the girl didn’t know about Fu’s deception and her reaction was too genuine to be faked.

The kwamis at that point managed to get out of the box and they explained to the Order about Hawkmoth and how the girl had basically carried out their job and protected them.

So as a small mercy, they simply erased her memories. Her parents found her passed out when she didn’t come down from dinner. She woke up in the hosipital with amnesia and no recollection of the past few years. Doctors thinks that the emotional trauma from the entire Hawkmoth thing caused her brain to repress those memories. A few remarked that it was a blessing. (Many were bitter that she was able to easily forgot the hardships they all endured.)

She vaguely remember her classmates for the first time in months asking her politely to bring around some pastries to a party they were throwing. She should have seen that as a sign but she was caught up in her successful haul that got her a rare magic book that was the real deal the other day.

(After she lost the passion she once had for designing after Gabriel Agreste turned out to be Hawkmoth, she now prowled antique shops and flea markets for magic artifacts instead of fabrics and old clothing. She was making many connections with the magic community in Paris who all know that she used to be Ladybug.)

She had showed up at the party with their order, not intending to stick around. But they insisted for her to stay. Alarm bells rang in her head. Her magical instincts were telling her to get the hell out before something bad happened.

Before she knew it, arms held her in place as her classmates beat her up and hurled insults at her. Adrien simply watched as Lila clinged onto his arm with a lowered head.

Marinette cried for help.

{But she didn’t know that Chloe had used her power to clear the park so no one would witness the beat down.}

As she laid on the ground, bloody and aching all over, Lila opened her mouth. Marinette didn’t know what the other girl said but through her magic, she finally with a sense of horror, realised how Lila was able to influence her classmates so easily. A sinister orange aura surrounds the brunette and strings, many of them, were tightly wrapped around each and everyone of them. The Miraculous had protected her and Adrien but after she took away Adrien’s ring, he had also fallen in line easily. The only reason she was still unaffected was because of her protection charms.

Her friends seemed to nod along to whatever Lila suggested and Marinette’s world went black.

The days after were filled with many people asking her for the truth of that ‘day’. But the truth was buried underneath her classmates’ various testimonies which all, of course, contradicts her. The only people she trusted to give the true description of her as a character witness were all out of the country or unreachable.

When Chloe visited her in her cell to gloat and demean her, wrapped in Lila’s sickenly orange strings, she knew that the entire court, from judge to jury would rule against her as they all would be in the Mayor’s pocket. Her parents also came by, orange strings around their necks, to tell her that they won’t even hire lawyers for her trial on her behalf and to her heartbreak, gave her the truth of her birth.

She was not their biological daughter. She was adopted simply because she looked like their actual daughter who had died a few months before they came across her.

Someone had decided to run her DNA against the criminal database and it showed that she was related to Jack Napier aka the Joker. They did a ‘psych evaluation’

(The psychiatrist who was supposed to evaluate her reeked of alcohol and was grinning like a loon. It was simple to hynotise him and find out that he was bribed to write her down as insane despite how the actual evaluation went.)

She could have used magic to get out of it but she was tired. She was tired of everything. She was tired of the glares and insults. She was tired of overthinking everything so nothing can be used against her. She was tired of looking over her shoulder everyday and being wary of when her classmates would descend on her like a pack of dogs, thinking themselves as righteous angels of justice. She was tired of the many secrets she held.

As she looked at the happy Agreste family, she was tired of her dreams to achieve that perfectly normal life. Because she was never born normal to start with.

As the trial concluded with her sentence to be deported out of Paris to Arkham Asylum in Gotham.

Paris, the city she once loved and protected hated her.

Good, because she hated it too.

Class 1A vs Deku arc literally undermined Deku's valid and noble reasons for leaving UA. Deku had trauma due to the war and had regrets about not being able to stop an incomplete Shigaraki. His fear of putting the people and his loved ones in danger after remembering what happened to Shoto, Bakutrash, Aizawa, GT, Nejire, Ryukyuu during the war was all the reasons he left UA. He already has lack of self worth due to being told worthless and useless and abused for 11yrs and when he became desperate to find Shigaraki it started to become worse with him not taking any breaks and all of this was before the encounter with Nagant . Watching Nagant explode and AFO's declaration only reinforced his fear and trauma and it's why he left all might. His state of mind became worse and he stopped caring about himself anymore.

However when class A arc started, all of his trauma, fear were thrown away. The arc painted Bakugou as innocent and an angel while blaming all might for Deku's lack of self worth when the person to really be blamed was Bakugou due to years of bullying, calling Deku useless and worthless, telling him to kill himself. The whole arc was a disgusting with Ochako and Iida agreeing with the trash when he mocked Deku. He also had the audacity to project himself on to Deku. Even Bakugou's apology was trash and Class A were just watching again. The most saddest part is that none of class A knows exactly what Bakugou did to Deku. They don't know that Deku's lack of not taking himself into account, his lack of self worth was a result of Bakugou's bullying, calling him useless and worthless. In the end the arc Undermined Deku's reason, his trauma and glorified his chief abuser.

The worst of it for me is what happened after Bakugou's apology which was narrative having Deku putting himself down and saying Class A were way ahead of him as Hero when they didn't do shit compared what Deku has done since the start. Then Deku Apologizes which was not necessary considering Deku was right to say they can't keep up. So what is Hori saying now? that Uraraka due her speech is a way better Hero than Deku? Bakugou is a better Hero than Deku ? Iida is a better Hero than Deku? Does Deku have to now learn on how to be a hero from class A when said class A didn't do anything compared what Deku has done?

Sorry for venting it's just i had High Hopes for the solo arc but am utterly disappointed with the story now. I understand Deku needs to share his burden with his friends but it should have been organic by making him realise that he Izuku (not Deku) matters and how much he means to them and that he can rely on them. Not by undermining his choices and reasons and especially not by putting him down.

Yeah the izuku solo/vigilantes arc had so much potential and hori did throw it out of the window! But honestly I think that was mostly his ex editors fault! Thanks god, that guy got replaced!

I agree with you and I understand why you feel so dissapointed and angry! I get why class a did what they did. They love izuku and wanted him back, but in my honest opinion they used - at least at first - the wrong methods. The 2 things that pissed me off the most, were first iida and ochako being SO FUCKING COLD to izuku at first and siding with bakugou, whos first action was to mock izuku again, when it was absolutely clear he wasnt in the right state and second, momo creating a fucking "asylum chair" they wanted to use to drug izuku and drag him back to ua against his will - she lost A LOT of my respect for her in that moment and I dont think she will ever win it back! I will not go into detail again, about everything wrong with bakugous apology! That whole abnormination of an apology was nothing more then the biggest insult to human intelligence and 95% of the fandom did eat that shit up!

Jerome may not have known her name at that time but he already knew that he had fallen in love, or at least what he considered love, in fact he enjoyed very much the physical contact he received when they discovered his mother's body or the one later at the GCPD, although it did not last long because Detective Gordon, the father of that gorgeous girl he had discovered was named Y/n, told her to go home because it was getting too late and he did not want her to get involved in any way in his work.

When she left the police station, the ginger promised himself that he would see her again.

And so the obsession, which grew even stronger over time, for Y/n Gordon began.

Jim didn't suspect anything at first, it was only when he began to pay more attention, noticing the notes left in Y/n's room after Jerome escaped from the asylum or the open window he had made sure to close himself the night before, taking the key with him, listening to what his daughter was telling him and her worries or feelings that someone was following and watching her, he realized that there was something weird and creepy going on.

After the ginger's death everything calmed down a bit, the worst was over or so they thought since everything changed. It wasn't true, when Jerome's cult resurrected him, his memories were fuzzy but he remembered Y/n too well, in fact she was his first stop, after he blew up the building and caused the lights to go out all over Gotham, at that very moment Y/n was doing what her father had asked her to do which was to pack her things and leave Gotham as soon as possible, which did not happen because Jerome managed to kidnap her first carrying her to Wayne Manor and then to the carnival, forcing a kiss before he lit the cannon to kill Bruce.

When they succeeded in capturing him and bringing him to Arkham Y/n left the town, returning shortly after because of some trouble that had taken place, only to be kidnapped again by Jerome who declared his feelings for her, giving her gifts while keeping her with him until the GCPD found her and took her away from him.

The last time he saw her was when he fell from the roof, meeting her gaze before falling onto the car and dying for the second time, with the memory of the last kiss exchanged on the stage in front of everyone: his brother, the crowd that had gathered, Bruce Wayne, and a visibly disgusted Jim Gordon.

Y/n Gordon was his obsession and would remain so even after his death, because true love is unforgettable, am I right?

Detroit Become Human still has the patented David Cage game moment where the plot holes and contrivances reach critical mass and the story kind of shits itself, but imo it's still the best/least bad game because the rest of the game is much more enjoyable and there's enough good shit to make me feel ambivalent about hating it too much. Like let's look at the other games in the Sadness Series

1. Beyond: Two Souls, its direct predecessor. The game is presented in a completely unnecessary nonlinear storyline that jumps around and robs scenes of their own context. Jodie and Dawkins are the best part of the game aside from its graphics, but Jodie as a character falls apart the instant you think about her for more than a minute. She is a punching bag in her story and there is so little else to her than what she goes through, and thus it's difficult to connect with her beyond pitying her and sympathizing with her. BTS starts to fall apart during the birthday party scene, but the plot has multiple instances where everything good and interesting about the story completely has a Plot Just Shit Itself moment: the first Condenser breaking down, the Navajo spirit demon, the final Condenser, the mission in Africa, and my personal favorite, the underwater Chinese ghost base.

2. Heavy Rain, imo the second least bad Cage game. This one only has one major Plot Just Shit Itself moment, but it massively fucks up the entire story, the main mechanic of reading character's thoughts, and the best character in the game. Spoilers: the twist in this one is that Detective Shelby is the Origami Killer, despite the fact that you are constantly hearing his own thoughts as he investigates the case. Also there's the misogynist portrayal of Madison but there's egregious misogyny in nearly every one of these games.

3. Indigo Prophecy starts off really strong despite the pretentious tutorial at the beginning, but cracks start to show the more you play: the large number of factions (we have Mayan magic bullshit, but also AI creatures, but also the Indigo Child who relates to reincarnation despite none of the cultures being referenced in the other factions believing in reincarnation), the ridiculousness of scenes like looking for the book in the shop run by a racist Asian caricature or Lukas being attacked by every single item in his apartment. It finally has the Ultimate Plot Just Shit Itself moment with Lukas kung-fu fighting a helicopter with magic Matrix powers, the exposition dump with Angela's ghost and the angels fighting each other, Chroma being magic bullshit with no real logic, and then again when the AI faction gets revealed and the climax of the game. Also the ableist section in the asylum and the racist way Tyler is portrayed but again that's icing on the shit sundae

4. Omikron the Nomad Soul shits itself from the moment you start the game, and the plot spirals downhill at an astonishing rate. How you make an entire world and have nothing interesting about it (world building, aesthetics, interesting characters, etc) is kind of amazing. And it has the most nonsensical set of factions and characters that you cannot be bothered to care about. Complicated and complex plots do NOT always mean deep. This imo is David Cage's greatest flaw as a director and writer, and Omikron is the biggest example of this problem.

Detroit has the largest amount of interesting characters you can easily grow to care about, and there is an equal ratio of interesting shit with potential vs. plot holes and nonsensical bullshit. So when the plot shits itself, mainly in Marcus's storyline with the resistance and Alice being an android, it isn't as much of a problem because you've got other good shit about the plot you can enjoy. Basically Cage wastes the least potential in DBH and it makes me less angry when things get stupid, unlike BTS which had SO MUCH wasted potential and makes me irrationally angry lol

Ok you are back well MC drops a hint on them, those who refuse to learn or fix their mistakes will never reach the truth hiding in plain sight while looking at the paintings they made of their family and the RO.

The paintings detecting their urge to learn reveal the truth hiding in plain sight the images shatter like glass and their blinded by a white flash of light before seeing the real look of their paintings in the middle of a white void.

The parents are the only ones depicted as absolutely nightmarish demons.

When i was little i wanted my Mothers attention and her comfort at times i wanted to be like her but that quickly came crashing down as she made me aware how much she hated me and how i shouldn't have been born i remember locking myself in my room with a stabbing pain in my chest and pressure behind my eyes i thought i would cry but nothing came out i just felt pain and sadness.

The one thing I can never forgive is how she would team up with my sister just to hurt me, I could handle my mother but my own sister i couldn't i would never want to hurt her again so you can imagine how i reacted when she blamed me for her death i was so angry and hurt that day I couldn't sleep i made myself a promise while lying in bed that I would never forgive her she stoped being my mother long ago but that was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Sal's painting real name is Delusion

It depicts Sal as a angel making promises that everything will get better to Percy and MC being positive but it means nothing since the moment he leaves the tormentors come again and it becomes a vicious cycle to the point where the angel Sal just finds both of them having taken their own lives and picks up two letters where it's clear it never got better it just got worse and worse until they couldn't take it anymore.

Sal is the best brother one could have but he's never been on the receiving end of one of mom's tangents and dad's beatings so he doesn't understand how infuriating it can be to hear him being so positive to the point he becomes detached from reality and forgets me and Percy get treated like shit everysingle day and i came home broken from the asylum.

They dont understand i'm always afraid i'm gonna hurt him or Percy with one of my episodes Sal doesn't understand what is like being me he never listens and choses to ignore it with endless positivity it becomes toxic and seeing him do that hurts so much.

Percy's painting real name is Paying for Love isn't Love

It depicts Percy accepting money as affection but he's alone never with a person who truly values him and cares about him until he loses everything to the demons of lust and greed and people just turn his back to him leaving him truly alone.

Percy is the fun brother, fun to be around even if sometimes he's an asshole for asking me things about the asylum and I try to answer him but their's so many bad memories and missing one's the ones i still remember is being drugged, treated as an animal to be poked and prodded.

And the absolute worse is the electroshock therapy I still remember the time they pulled of the head set and my burnt flesh acted like melted cheese coming off with the headset as i was fading in an out of consciousness.

Im concerned for Percy and also extremely sad for him since the only affection he's gotten is being given money and that's not healthy I also want him to stop taking drugs and drinking irresponsible since I know first hand how bad drugs can mess with someone.

Orla's painting real name is Golden Cruelty

The painting depicts Orla and MC as two royal siblings until a MC hurts Orla they apologise and beg for forgiveness but she doesn't want to forgive and just puts MC through everysingle inhuman torture imaginable not caring for her siblings pleas or cries for mercy with a sick grin on her face as her own sibling is left as nothing but a mess of blood and a barely breathing whimpering mess.

Honestly the worst part is that i love Nea but i can't say anything cause a part of me is still so angry at her for not being there for me but i can't hold it against her im the supposed killer of my own sister and she already gets enough shit from these assholes that go at the parties she has to attend.

if Nea knew i loved her would she stand by me or would she abandon me I'll have to ask her when I finally build the courage to ask her out.

Hot take about Elongated buying Twitter and a theory of mine that I have

Ok so hear me out oomfies and everyone reading this

We all know that billionaire manchild bought the birdapp and now the company is in a state of chaos with a looming bankruptcy and breakdown, and it is probably a coincidence so bad it might be planned all along that this is happening just before the biggest sporting event thats held every 4 years (The World Cup which is to start a day before as of writing), yet this same manchild and memeing and acting everything is fine and even tweeted about how Twitter will provide the latest coverage etc, surely not a coincidence eh?

Now consider that the $44 billion spent which is way to high for a company thats supposed to be worth only $11 billion. Not all was from his pocket because sometimes you would need shareholders to aid with money, and Elon had the backing of the Saudi royal family with the amount of $1.9 billion through one of their princes, in exchange, Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia, owner of Kingdom Holdings of Saudi Arabia, became the 2nd largest shareholder and effectively some leverage on the direction of how Twitter is run under Elongated Muskrat, and it is well known by now that Saudi Arabia is an absolute monarch, or more accurately, an oligarchy between the House of Sauds and what I would describe as the 'Wahabbist' faction. Twitter also happens to be a major social media platform in not just Saudi Arabia but the Gulf Arab states as well, of which Saudi Arabia are more or less allies with minus the complicated relations with Qatar.

From this, it is important to note a few things of how Twitter has been used against the Saudi state as well as the Gulf states as general, for example, the Arab Spring of 2011 as social media spearheaded the movement which led to toppling of Middle Eastern and North African governments and civil unrest, the major Saudi allies affected by these were; Egypt, Bahrain (a failed revolution which was cracked down partially by Saudi support) and Tunisia (Also where it was the most successful as it led to democratic reforms while its long-time dictator fled and was granted asylum…by the Saudis) as far as my head can recall. There were also the attempts by the Saudi people to get more rights, most notably, lifting the ban on women driving and the dismantling of the archaic guardianship system of which had since happen at the cost of the activists getting exiled, jailed and worse fates while the Saudis took credit for doing so-called 'reforms' in their bid to keep their revenues as oil & gas runs out, a lot of these were spearheaded or spread to an international audience through Twitter and the Saudis as well as her allies have a bitter taste of what Twitter has caused to their grips of power and their global image.

So what I'm suggesting is that, the fact that Saudi Arabia de jure now has the 2nd largest sharhold on Twitter at the moment is that they deliberately enlisted the help of Elon Musk to sabotage and even essentially erase the free and open environment of Twitter in order to ensure there's no dissent against them or their allies both domestically and physically, the Saudi government has been found in the past employing employees of Twitter while Jack was running it to give info on Saudi accs and their secret police is rather active 24/7 on Twitter to catch dissenters, especially if they're influential people because at the end of the day, the Saudis domestically want an obedient population supporting the King and the Crown Price. At the same time, Saudi Arabia has a tendency to support or fund authoritarians no matter if they're in the east or the west because of commonality and that it gives them benefits like oil prices manipulation, markets to sell their oil or places where they can obtain weapons, food, cars perhaps, technology etc and they don't like accountability especially in the issues of their actions in Yemen and the murder of Jamal Khashoggi in 2018 with a tactic they pull off on dissidents exiled abroad (Luring them to the embassy only to get them kidnapped or assassinated). Again, if a lot of people and even news outlets call them out for their violations of human rights or their atrocities, that means bad business for their oil & gas industry, therefore, Saudi Arabia and its close partners are trying the best that they can to stop their declines before its too late while they still have billions in profits annually.

It is a shame tho because along with Tumblr, Twitter had been a gathering point for marginalized communities worldwide like BIPOC or the LGBT community, especially if they live in oppressive or abusive environments and it can be where they get support. Twitter also where anything major gets reported in real-time, sometimes even before the major news outlets start producing articles about it and can spread awareness about issues etc that mainstream medias would initially be reluctant to report on. This is something billionaires and authoritarians like Putin, Orban, the Saudi government, Murdoch and Elon Musk hate and it doesnt help that Muskrat has a personal vendetta on trans people as well and he's facing a midlife crisis so this is why I think Twitter is in this state at the moment, as if Elongated was a competent billionaire at the first place because he all started on apartheid blood money and he fled as it was about to be dismantled.

TL; DR The Saudis probably allied with Elon in a "You help me, I help you" deal and they have billions they could easily flush that could've been spent on actual beneficial things but erasing people's voices is easier for them

There was no shame for Nick Dansereau, known to his small group of best friends as Evil Uno, in being a nerd. After all, he had gotten the nickname of Evil Uno by being a chaotic DM in games of Dungeons and Dragons. He loved all things comic books and cartoons as well. When not spending time with his friends, a group who referred to themselves as The Order after their D&D party, Uno was an A+ student who did what he could to keep his grades up.

 For as well-rounded as he seemed, Uno did have his weaknesses.

 The biggest, in his eyes, was the self-confidence he lacked. When in his wheelhouses, he seemed comfortable enough. At school it was a different story. Uno rarely spoke outside of answering questions directly posed to him by his teachers. Even more than that, he lacked the ability to talk to the girl who sat next to him in his AP English class, Abigail Wyatt.

 Part of the reason was that the Wyatt family had their own gossips. It was mostly because of the fact that they stuck together and only attended class, never anything outside of it. The siblings never went to any club meetings, they never went to any after school activities. For Uno, that meant he never really got a chance to spend the time he wanted to with Abigail.

 But that had changed today.

 The teacher of their AP English class, Mr. Regal, had announced they would be splitting into groups for their final project. Uno had ignored his friend Alan waving to him from across the room and, feeling the courage within him, scooted his chair close to Abigail’s. “So…uh…partners?”

 Abigail seemingly suppressed a giggle and brushed a strand of her bright red hair behind her ear, “Ain’t you going to partner up with Alan? Usually you two do everything together.”

 “Alan will be okay if he doesn’t work with me,” Uno dismissed with a wave of his hand. How was talking to her this easy? Usually he struggled with even the thought of talking to her. “I liked the paper you wrote when we read Scarlet Letter. Thought this could be fun.”

 Was that a blush on Abigail’s otherwise pale cheeks? Had he actually made a girl blush?

 “Sure, Nick-“

 “My friends call me Uno,” he quickly corrected, “and…and I’d like to be friends?”

 The sound of a chair scooting across linoleum flooring eeked out as Abigail moved her own chair a little closer to his, “So…two-person book report?”

 Uno gave an eager nod, “Uh-huh! I thought we could have fun with it. Maybe do a little skit?”

 “Let’s focus on which book you want to do first?” Abigail questioned as she looked over the list Mr. Regal had passed out. “What on here haven’t you read?”

 Uno looked over the list before giving a little smile, surprised, “You’ve ready a lot of these?”

 Abigail gave a sheepish grin, “I…I read a lot…”

 He rubbed the back of his neck, “My classics usually have dragons in them. I’m more of a fantasy reader, ya know?”

 “Oh I love fantasy stories,” Abigail beamed, “anything with something fanciful. Hmm…have you read Dracula?”

 Uno shook his head eagerly, “Not the original, but vampires are cool! And I’m all for the old school monster movies, so I’ve seen it. We could do that one?”

 Abigail beamed, “We could do one of the scenes in our skit!”

 Uno nodded, trying to figure out how he was going to frame the next part of his plan. “So, this is a big part of our grade. We should probably meet up after school for this?”

 There was a silence from his project partner, Abigail simply looking down at the paper in front of her, “Oh…I dunno I…”

 “I get how you feel. I don’t usually leave the asylum in the middle of the night,” Uno tried to tease, “but I think working with you would make it worth my while.”

 Abigail took a sharp breath in and the entire demeanor of the conversation seemed to change. Gone was the gentle hesitation and charmed giggles. Everything felt tense now and Uno winced when he realized what exactly it was that he had said. Asylum? Of course Abigail was going to be upset when the biggest insult thrown about her brother, about her family, was that they were insane. “You think so too, Nick?”

 The use of his real name showed exactly how she felt about him in the moment and Uno knew he deserved that. “No! No I…it was just a stupid turn of phrase. Renfield and all that, ya know?”

 “It don’t feel like you mean that,” Abigail spoke as the bell rang, signaling the end of class. She picked up her papers, shoving them into a folder, and then into her bag, “but we can work on it. Maybe…at the football game tonight? Or before?”

 The corner of Uno’s lip upturned into a grin.

 That sounded like the perfect plan to him.

Backlog Reviews 2024: Batman Arkham Asylum

Well, after Bionicle the Game was such a massive disappointment, even by my lowered standards, it was nice to see this game live up to all of the hype.

It's not without flaws, of course, but overall, it has solid gameplay, a "gets the job done" story that only has a few bits I'd say are bad, and the difficulty is fairly balanced if you pick the right mode.

Killer Croc's section kinda sucks ass, though. Just really long and boring?

Really, the biggest delay for writing this review is that I just don't have THAT much to say compared to the other two. Most of what I have are minor quibbles that I think would be amusing.

For example, I had to play this at the lowest settings for a consistent framerate. Like, I tried medium with all of the optional settings turned to low, but that gave me this one room early in the game running at 12 FPS on those settings, and 60 FPS at low settings. And even then, I had some minor frame drops here and there. My laptop isn't a top tier gaming PC or anything, but I'd think it could run a 2009 game a bit better.

The lower settings also gives a lot of people blind eyes. Idk why, it just does.

Some of the pre-animated knock-out poses for the thugs are weird, too. Like, they'll ragdoll into a natural position, then set themselves up like:

It's bizarre to see in real time. Why did they intentionally make it as weird as possible?

Though really, the "because it's a video game" shit in this game does sorta bother me. Like, many times, you'll face obstacles that Batman, in-universe, SHOULD be able to move or get around much more easily, but the developers want you to do some weird challenge that doesn't really make much sense. Every video game has this to some degree, but I hate how artificial it feels here in particular.

This also leads to moments where Batman feels like kind of an idiot, though? Like, you look at him, and go, "Why aren't you better at doing your damn JOB, bro?"

One example that broke me a bit was the Bat Claw upgrade. He assembles it in his Arkham Batcave, and it can pull things. Pretty cool, right?

Well, later, as things get worse, Batman is in the same Bat Cave, and he assembles the Ultra Bat Claw from some nearby parts, which can do everything the original Bat Claw can do, but also a LOT more.

SO WHY DIDN'T HE JUST MAKE THE ULTRA BAT CLAW IN THE FIRST PLACE!?

We wasted HOURS of our lives with this shit, Bruce! We could've gone so much faster with that thing, and you only NOW put it together!? ARE YOU STUPID!?

So yeah, those quibbles aside, I quite liked this game, though would still call Lego Batman 2 my favorite Batman game so far.

8/10.
