A wild 2023 recap post appears!
Stuff I made this year:
Fiction: Nope. Work continues to consume me.  I DID write like 33k that maybe will be publicly accessible in the future, but who can say.
Playlists: I think the only two I remembered to share were Oleander (a playlist for my Wickedness character) and the vast and the void (what it says on the tin).
RPGs: Also a nope.
Knitting: Made a shawl!  And a hat, technically, that I forgot to take pictures of.
Other stuff: Taught 5 classes, 4 of which were new preps!  Did fieldwork in Japan for the first time since 2019! Gave an hour-long talk in Japanese!  Presented on two conference panels!  Finished two academic book reviews! Survived somehow!  The period between August and December sort of doesn’t exist in my memory?  I was doing things but almost all of those things were work, so. The isolation has been wearing on me, but with the combination of A. not having any time to do anything other than work and B. for Various Reasons questioning whether I want to stay at this job, it's been really hard to build local community. I'm going to try to work on that next year, but also I'm going to have two new preps again in the fall and one of my spring classes is already overenrolled, so who knows how effective that'll be.
Media I enjoyed this year:
Books: I read 46 books this year apparently!  Top picks in no particular order: The Singing Hills Cycle (embarrassingly my jam), The Southern Reach Trilogy (shocking that it took me this long to read this), My Own Devices (even MORE shocking that it took me this long to read this), Imperial Radch (so AGGRESSIVELY my jam), She Who Became the Sun (this was a hilarious accompaniment to one of my fall classes), Camp Damascus (read this on a plane back from Japan which was An Experience), The Tale That Twines (loved the first book; the second book is even better), System Collapse (yeah, no one is surprised that I loved this).
TTRPG: Wickedness!  This was the only new TTRPG I played this year, but it was really good.
Video games: Mask of the Rose and Saltsea Chronicles, both of which I want to/should poke at more. Special nod to 13 Sentinels which we enjoyed 90% of a lot.
Manga/comics: I think the only thing I read was The JOJOLands?
Fanfic: I didn’t actually wind up reading that much fanfic this year again, in part because I was reading so many books.  A few picks, in no particular order: The Gardener (CR C2), Keys to the Castle (CR C2), Whistle Song (CR C2), pieces of (you) me (CR C2), Descriptions of a River Flowing (CR C2), Slip the Blindfold (CR C2), Heart to Heart (JJBA: JJL--PLEASE read this if you care about JJL at all), riverside beatitudes (JJBA: SDC), Fully formed, ready to run (ExU: Calamity).  Honorable mention to Asking for More (Stranger of Paradise), which is a WIP but made me laugh so hard I hit myself in the face with my phone.
Films: I actually watched like eight movies this year!  All but two of the new ones on a plane, to be fair, but.  Top picks: Spider-man: Across the Spider-verse and Shoplifters (『万引き家族』).  Honorary mention to Suzume.
TV: Finally finished Stone Ocean!  It was good!  Rowan and I are also like halfway through catching up on TGCF and it is also very good.
Podcasts:  Continued to listen to way too many of these.  Top picks: The Silt Verses, Trice Forgotten, Within the Wires (hey can we talk about the newest season? truly wild), and Re: Dracula.  Honorable mentions to The Evaporated: Gone with the Gods, 『なんかIWAKAN!』 (WHICH IS TRAGICALLY ENDING???? where am I supposed to get my chaotic Japanese gender and sexuality discussion now :(((((), Cry Havoc! Ask Questions Later, Critical Role, and Worlds Beyond Number.
Music: Dessa's Bury the Lede was excellent, of course.  I also apparently listened to Maisie Peters' The Good Witch a lot (it was in my grading rotation in October). And then this past month there's been a lot of Hozier's Unreal Unearth. But a lot of my listening this year was either albums on the bus (rotating mainly between Quiet Company’s We Are All Where We Belong, Bury the Lede, yorushika’s entire discography that I can purchase, Wednesday Campanella, and various soundtracks) or putting something on loop and falling into a fugue state.  Apparently my top song of the year on Spotify was “Square One,” which I think I put on looping while grading in the spring.  My Spotify top songs list was even more inexplicable than usual this year.
(or else!!!!)

💜 🩷 and 🤍 for the fanfic ask?
from this fanfic ask game:
💜 Purple: Name one song you're listening to while writing your next/current fanfic. How or why does it help the writing process?
Ohhh I don’t have one song, I think what I do is find either the show soundtrack or find a song that I’ve been thinking of using for a fanvid.
But also, I find myself going to Dessa songs if I need to be in an emotional moment or feel empowered for some action, currently:
youtube
And, recently Home — I know this is about writing but I’ve also been contemplating editing a vid for Voyager using this song, I am sure there’s already a vid about Voyager to this song but I kind of want to do my own version, y’know?
youtube
🩷 Pink: Do you find a certain character (or characters) easy to write? More difficult -- and if so, do you avoid writing that character (or those characters) when possible?
I think they’re all hard to write for — I really want to capture the ‘voice’ of characters i write for and that usually means I have to rewatch a show again and again (a hardship! /j).
If I don’t feel comfortable with a character’s voice that’s when I usually run into problems. Their voice and their ways of thinking.
🤍 White: What's a fanfic scenario or idea you'd like someone elseto write so that you can read it?
I was asked this earlier but I think this is the one I do want to read and not write, and its such a niche thing that I don’t think anyone but a few people would be interested. And by a few people I think that’s only less than 4 people.
And that’s a multi-chapter character and relationship exploration of a janeway/seven/chakotay relationship with Janeway as the star both Seven and Chakotay revolve around.
Both Chakotay and Seven realizing that the only reason they’re together was that because they thought they couldn’t have Kathryn Janeway. It’s solace and comfort, some love but they’re not in love with each other.
Kathryn struggling with her feelings for both Chakotay and Seven — it was easier back in Voyager because she can put both of them at arms length but now that they’re in the Alpha Quadrant?
Also, I think before Kathryn found herself in this situation, she never thought of herself as someone capable of loving two people at once.
And then the realization that the first Voyager timeline where Admiral Janeway had to live with Chakotay/Seven marrying each other — while Janeway loved both, and both Chakotay/Seven loved Janeway, and they’re in a vortex of guilt, made worse by Seven’s death. Because the reason why Chakotay was ‘never the same’ was because of guilt. Maybe because Chakotay confronted Seven with the realization that Seven was in love with Janeway (too). And it’s just bad all around, terrible for everyone. By the end of the long journey Janeway didn’t even recognize herself - and this was why Endgame was also a love story for Janeway herself because Admiral Janeway realized she’s lost herself along the way and meeting Captain Janeway she’s started loving herself again.
(Because not even Admiral Janeway is immune to Captain Janeway).
It’s a long complicated, emotionally messy story with a hopeful happy ending at the end. I doubt anyone has the spoons to write such an epic. But by god, do I wish it existed.

Not So Berry Legacy Challenge Generation One: Mint
Tumblr media
**I went back to work the day after I gave birth, it was unfortunate to admit but I didn't have the patience.**
Tumblr media
**I didn't remember that phase of Charlotte... I remembered that who took care of her in the first months was my mother, so I could finish my studies.**
Tumblr media
**But the fact is, I didn't want to go home, I was working overtime every day and even then I wanted to take a little longer.**
Tumblr media
**After insistently calling everyone on my schedule, I got someone crazy enough to walk out into the storm.**
Tumblr media
O vento estava realmente horrível.
**The wind was really awful.**
Tumblr media
**We went in to chat. I hadn't seen her in a while. since my marriage?**
Tumblr media
**So is that getting married? Getting away from all your friends, working like crazy, not sleeping with a baby crying, always cleaning something around the house?**
Tumblr media
**Fiona wasn't too happy with her life either...**
Tumblr media
**...she didn't get married, she didn't have children, she had a nice apartment just for her. What could be wrong with her? What gets in the way of her happiness?**
Tumblr media
**Then she said that her parents managed to become famous with a play (which I didn't know existed, probably because I was cleaning the house or working...and now listening to a baby cry) and that it ended up attracting attention to her.**
Tumblr media
**Now some people were surrounding her, Fiona was always the quietest in our class and never wanted that attention.**
Tumblr media
Brinquei que eu ia assustar as pessoas, ela riu.
**I joked that I was going to scare people, she laughed.**
Tumblr media
**I think we both needed to get away from our lives for a bit.**
Tumblr media
Um pouco de bebida ia ajudar.
**A little drink would help.**
Tumblr media
**The barman was a good man agreed to distract Fiona...**
Tumblr media
**...so I can take care of these idiots.**
Tumblr media
"Vão ficar bem congeladinhos aí!"
**"They'll be very frozen there!"**
Tumblr media
...e ela viu.
**...and she saw it.**
Tumblr media
**I thought she was going to freak out, but she couldn't stop laughing anymore...that's freaking out too, isn't it?**
Tumblr media
**I thought a game of table football might help calm me down.**
Tumblr media
E...nos divertimos...
**And... we had fun...**
Tumblr media
"Se tornar parceiros de crime"
Devíamos fazer isso mais vezes.
**We should do this more often.**
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ela concordou rapidinho.
**She quickly agreed.**
Tumblr media
E para fechar a noite fomos dançar.
**And to close the night we went dancing.**
Tumblr media
**I remembered when I slept at her house and when I woke up she was in the kitchen singing like crazy.**
Tumblr media
**This whole freezing thing was the best thing I've ever come up with.**
Tumblr media
**And to really close the night we went for a last drink.**
Tumblr media
**But when I left it was already day... I think I'll have to go straight to work. Why not? There's a coffee maker, shower, fridge...everything I need to survive.**

Sad Bangers for Your Commute Home
So I realized yesterday morning that my current driving playlist is like 94% sad bangers and then the rest of it is mostly Ginger Root (not sad, catchy as hell).  Naturally, I then set about trying to classify each artist (except Ginger Root) as a particular type of Sad Banger.  A taxonomy of Sad Bangers, if you will.  Some of you seemed interested in hearing more about this, so here you go.  I am including a song rec for each one, as @itsmevickyb seemed to want recs and the playlist itself is seriously 17 hours long so you can’t just listen to it (unless you spread it out over the course of a week’s worth of driving, as I do).
Anyway.  Here we go, in no particular order:
Tears for Fears:  Undisputed Kings of the Sad Bangers.  Foundation for the entire playlist.  Chunky knitwear for life.  Song rec: The Tipping Point.  Can’t wait to cry over this album in February.
Dessa: Queen of the Sad Bangers (at least in my opinion).  Apparently her mom once accused her of writing “songs to bleed out to.”  Seems kinda harsh.  Hyperverbal polymath singer/rapper who will never break out the way she should (but she really should).  Glad she’s finally over that X.  Song rec:  Good Grief.
Chvrches: Proud owners of the Robert Smith Sad Banger Seal of Approval.  When I put this on the playlist at first, I didn’t like it.  A couple spins through and now I have no idea what I was thinking because they’re awesome.  Scottish as fuck and it’s amazing.  Song rec: How Not to Drown.
Roger O’Donnell:  Sad Bangers, but Make Them Classical.  Sometimes I just need to hear some cello, okay?  Song rec: Don’t Tell Me...
Japanese Breakfast: Nominated for the Grammy for Best New Sad Bangers, (despite already having three albums out).  This album is apparently actually supposed to be about joy.  It was also written after she lost her mom, so.  Fits squarely in the space between Tears for Fears and Wilco, which makes sense because she covered one and recently joined an all-star team to play “California Stars” at the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame induction for the other.  Love her.  Love her.  Song rec: In Hell.
Depeche Mode: Horny Sad Bangers about God and also Capitalism.  Is that a sample of a ping-pong ball?  Pretty sure it is.  Look, just go with it.  Everyone was more experimental in the 80s.  Song rec: Lie to Me
Chairlift: Sad Bangers That I Should’ve Gotten Into Like a Decade Ago (but better late than never).  Honestly some of it’s more cheerful, but Caroline Polachek’s voice lends everything the highest of drama, and her Kate Bush moves don’t hurt either.  Can I hit these notes? No.  Am I still trying?  Yep.  Song rec: Crying in Public
Curt Smith: Sad Bangers Gone Solo.  Like Chvrches, this album was one that had to grow on me a bit.  Unlike Chvrches, I’m pretty sure half the album is about Curt Smith’s daughters, and that’s pretty adorable, I won’t lie.  “Wild” has a fun, mid-eighties Putamayo World Music Hour vibe to it, but since we’re focusing on Sad Bangers here, the actual rec is Some Secrets and its gorgeous acoustic intro.
Fiona Apple: Sad Bangers Learned to Embrace the Chaos and Got a Perfect Pitchfork Review Because of It.  Also, Sad Bangers Came Back Vengeful with a Baseball Bat, and I For One Am Okay With It.  (Seriously, I don’t think Fiona Apple would actually beat someone to death with her bare hands.  I’m just saying that if she did, I would assume she had her reasons and I would support her choices).  Song rec: Heavy Balloon.
Phoebe Bridgers: This one’s just kinda obvious, isn’t it?  Song rec: Halloween.
Christine and the Queens: Sad French Bangers That Are Oddly Appropriate to These Pandemic Times.  Also, the only thing sadder than some of these bangers is me attempting to sing along in French.  Except for “La Vita Nuova,” which is in Italian.  (Can’t sing along in Italian, either.  Still try though.)  The full La Vita Nuova video is stunning and well worth the watch, but if you really can’t spare the time for it (it’s not even fifteen minutes!), just put People I’ve Been Sad on repeat for a while.
Aldous Harding: These Sad Bangers are So Weird and I LOVE THEM.  Folky, hypnotic, deeply strange.  Her voice is astonishing.  The instrumentation is generally simple but deeply captivating.  Her lyrics are weird as fuck and completely comprehensible in the strangest ways and just the best thing since toast.  Song rec: Damn.
Wilco: Sad is not the word for these Bangers.  There is not a word for these Bangers, in fact, unless there is a word somewhere for That Feeling You Get in February When You’re Looking at Lake Michigan and Everything is Gray and You Realize You Haven’t Had a Real Emotion Since The Week After New Year’s and You Probably Won’t Have a Real Emotion Again Until Sometime in May When the Color Returns.  Which might be a word, probably in German.  Song rec: Please Be Patient With Me
Oh, and then there’s Ginger Root, which is not Sad, only Bangers.  Loungey, disco-ey, strong seventies vibes.  Catchy as fuck.  You gotta dance sometimes, right?  Song rec: Neighbor, because I got so distracted by the “Doo doo doo doo doo!” chorus yesterday that I almost hit a deer, and I still can’t manage to be mad at it.

Top 5 either albums, or (if you keep them/this is applicable) things that you would love to own but will never buy because they're expensive and/or frivolous. Sorry if that's too specific lol
( ask my top 5 anything ) Nah, it works! :D top 5 albums:
So I am trying to think of albums where I love the whole album, not just love half the songs and skip half the songs, as with a lot of albums. (Even if I like the artist generally, there does tend to be favorite songs I'll go straight to and ones I'm more meh on. Like Aims by Vienna Teng -- my favorite songs on it are some of my all-time favorites, but I think I can count on one hand how many times I've heard Oh Mama No.) So none of these may necessarily contain my all-time favorite music from the artist, or have the songs I'd point to as favorites, but they're overall the ones where I will listen to, if not every song every listen, all but one or two.
Also, I decided musicals are cheating, because they're in a different category altogether. XD
- Enneagram, Sleeping at Last. This is... technically an EP, so maybe cheating, but it's longer than some of the official albums I love, so I'm gonna count it. Six of the nine songs on here were on my top 100 this year. Sleeping at Last destroys my heart and then pieces it back together with careful, loving focus and then lets me lay down with my head in their musical, metaphorical lap and strokes my hair while singing me to sleep. Space is also good for this, but every. fucking. song. on Enneagram does it at least once. Every one.
- Mischief, SJ Tucker. I tend to skip less on Sooj's albums to begin with, but I would not skip a single one on this. It's got some of her absolute best songs (seriously, Ravens in the Library, Cheshire Kitten, Love Lies, Neptune, Girl With a Lion's Tail, Witchka, To My Valentine, and D&D, all coming from the same goddamn album how the hell does she do it), it makes you cry and then laugh, it's just such a great package altogether.
- High as Hope, Florence and the Machine. I don't think there's a single song on this album that doesn't give me chills. It's just one amazing song right after the other. I've listened to it as a coherent whole less than most of these, but probably listened to each individual song more often than a lot of the others.
- Ruin, the Amazing Devil. The most recent listen, but while the other two have songs that I like but am less likely to listen to every time, I think I would listen to every single song on this one on repeat at any given time.
- Chime, Dessa. Dessa is actually one of the few artist whose first three albums all fit the criteria here, but Chime is probably one of the albums I've listened to most as an album... ever. Period. Every song is so goddamn good. Each one of the first five songs would be serious contenders for the best song I've ever heard, in particular. Shrimp is great out of context, but makes such a fun little upbeat break in the album that it's even better that way. I love this album so much.
things I'd love to own, but would never get myself because expensive/frivolous:
- you know that thing they do when they auction off props or clothing from a tv show sometimes? There are absolutely properties where I'd love to own stuff from it, but I am never gonna have that kind of money. And the clothes would never fit me, so that's just useless.
- a massage chair. Not as good as, like, a proper massage by a person, but it does help. I could not afford it, and I have nowhere to put it, so it's not going to happen, but man do I dream of it.
- signed copies of some of my favorite poetry books. There have been ones where I was tempted, but as it is I don't even buy them at full price, I wait for them to go on sale. That additional five or ten dollars isn't much, but it feels like a ridiculous amount for something that doesn't really add much altogether.
- the last two here fall under 'I'd like to hope someday I will, but realistically, no' -- really good video editing software. There's no point right now cause my computer can't run it anyway. But god do I want to try vidding again.
- similarly, a keyboard. I would love to get one and learn to play, but I haven't got a lot of space for it, I'd worry about the noise in my household, i'd probably not actually keep up with it because my motivation is low, and I just don't see it being something I'm willing to do at any point.

I meant to send this last night but I fell asleep LENNY WEED for the character thing!!
ELEANOR MY DAUGHTER
favorite thing about them
she’s so fucking cool. she does not care what you think she will do anything she wants to do
least favorite thing about them
baby girl the world does not begin and end with you please listen to the people around you
favorite line
i feel like it’s self indulgent to pick a line from my own fic especially because i think most of the best lines are from characters who are not lenny so i’m gonna say i am very proud of her for pitching a shutout in her third game and also reverse shaming the beams in the finals that one time
brOTP
i feel like the obvious answer is dom and randy but really it’s mike. i think everyone needs a friend who will call you during emergencies and make bread with you at two in the morning
OTP
lenny/chorby the ship that i came up with by accident. bonus points: allison abbott was her gay awakening
nOTP
i don’t have a specific one but just to be abundantly super duper clear she is a lesbian
random headcanon
her hair has been every color except pink which is nothing against the color pink it’s more the fact that she thinks it doesn’t go with her complexion
unpopular opinion
i mean like the unpopular opinion is the part where i’m writting about lenny as the kid sister when the established lore is that lenny marijuana is dom and randy’s dad like this whole thing is an unpopular opinion. i mean not “unpopular” i got a good response but it’s sure as fuck not canon
song i associate with them
good grief by dessa which is where the title from lenny fic comes from BUT my backup title was either “the name i came with” or “the name i made” which comes from warsaw by dessa
favorite picture of them
i have so many picrews of lenny saved to my phone lmao BUT!!! back in october @sunflowersnips drew an early lenny as part of artober and it was actually very influential to the way i thought about the character. jason i love you thank you for my daughter

The nature of sin
What is sin? The Bible uses a variety of terms to express moral evil, which explain something of its nature. A study of these terms, in the Hebrew and Greek originals, will provide the biblical definition of sin.
1. The teaching of the Old Testament.
The Sin Considered - The different Hebrew words describe sin operating in the following spheres:
(a) In the moral sphere. The words used to express sin in this sphere are as follows:
1) The most commonly used word for sin means "to miss the mark". It brings together the following ideas: (1) Missing the target, like an archer who shoots but misses, in the same way, the sinner misses the ultimate goal of life. (2) To err the way, like a traveler who goes out of the right way. (3) To be found wanting when weighed in the balance of God. In Gen. 4: 7, where the word is mentioned for the first time, sin is personified as a ferocious beast ready to launch itself on whoever gives it occasion.
2) Another word literally means "tortuosity", and is often translated as "wickedness". It is, therefore, the opposite of righteousness, which literally means what is straight or according to a straight ideal.
3) Another common expression that translates to "evil", expresses the thought of violence or infraction, and describes the man who violates or violates the law of God.
(b) In the sphere of fraternal conduct. The word used to determine sin in this sphere, means violence or hurtful conduct. (Gen. 6:11; Ezeq. 7:23; Prov. 16:29.) By excluding the restriction from the law, man mistreats and oppresses his fellow men.
(c) In the sphere of holiness. The words used to describe sin in this sphere imply that the offender has enjoyed the relationship with God. The entire Israelite nation was constituted in "a kingdom of priests", each member considered to be in contact with God and his holy tabernacle. Therefore, each Israelite was holy, that is, set apart for God, and all his activity and sphere of life were regulated by the Law of Holiness.
Things outside of that law were "profane" (as opposed to saints), and what participated in them became "unclean" or contaminated. (Lev. 11:24, 27, 31, 33, 39.) If he persisted in desecration, he was considered an irreligious or profane person. (Lev. 21:14; Heb. 12:16.) If he rebelled and deliberately repudiated the jurisdiction of the law of holiness, he was considered a "transgressor." (Ps. 37:38; 51:13; Isa. 53:12.) If he continued in this latter way, he was judged as a criminal, and such were the tax collectors, in the opinion of the contemporaries of our Lord Jesus.
(d) In the realm of truth. The words that describe sin in this sphere emphasize the useless and fraudulent element of sin. Sinners speak and treat falsely (Ps. 58: 3; Isa. 28:15), falsely represent and bear false witness (Ex. 20:16; Ps. 119: 128; Prov. 19: 5, 9). Such activity is "vanity" (Ps. 12: 2; 24: 4; 41: 6), that is, empty and worthless. The first sinner was a liar (John 8:44); the first sin started with a lie (Gen. 3: 4); and every sin contains the element of deception (Heb. 3:13).
(e) In the sphere of wisdom. Men behave impiously because they do not think or do not want to think correctly; they do not run their lives according to the will of God, whether through carelessness or through deliberate ignorance.
1) Many exhortations are addressed to the "simple" (Prov. 1: 4, 22; 8: 5). This word describes the natural man, who has not developed, either in the direction of good or evil; without fixed principles, but with a natural inclination towards evil, which can be used to seduce you. It lacks firmness and a moral foundation; he hears but forgets; therefore, it is easily led to sin. (See Mat. 7:26.)
2) We often read about these "misunderstandings" (Prov. 7: 7; 9: 4), that is, those who, due to lack of understanding, rather than sinful propensity, are victims of sin. Lack of wisdom, they are led to express rash judgments about divine providence and things beyond their understanding. In this way, they precipitate impiety. Both this class and the "simple" ones are inexcusable because the Scriptures present the Lord freely offering - yes, pleading with them to accept (Prov. 8: 1-10) - what will make them wise for salvation.
3) The word often translated "foolish" (Prov. 15:20), describes a person capable of doing good, yet he is bound by the things of the flesh and is easily led to sin by his carnal inclinations. Do not discipline yourself or guide your tendencies according to divine laws.
4) The "scorner" (Ps. 1: 1; Prov. 14: 6) is the wicked man who justifies his wickedness with rational arguments against the existence or reality of God, and against spiritual things in general. Thus, "scorner" is the Old Testament word equivalent to our modern word "infidel", and the expression "scorner wheel" probably refers to the local society of the infidels.
2. The teaching of the New Testament.
The New Testament describes sin as:
(a) Missing the mark, which expresses the same idea as the well-known Old Testament word.
(b) Debt. (Matt. 6:12.) Man owes (the word "must" comes from debt) to God for keeping his commandments; every sin committed is a debt. Unable to pay it, man's only hope is to be forgiven, or to obtain debt relief.
(c) Disorder. "Sin is iniquity" (literally "disorder", 1 John 3: 4). The sinner is a rebel and an idolater because he deliberately breaks a commandment by choosing his own will instead of choosing the will of God; even worse, it is becoming a law for itself and thus making the self a deity. Sin began in the heart of that exalted angel who said, "I will do", as opposed to the will of God. (Isa. 14:13, 14). The antichrist is prominently "the lawless" (literal translation of "wicked"), because he exalts himself over everything that is worshiped or that is called God. (2 Thess. 2: 4-9.) Sin is essentially obstinacy and obstinacy is essentially sin. Sin would dethrone God; sin would murder God. On the Cross of the Son of God, these words could have been written: "Sin did this!"
(d) Disobedience, literally, "listening badly"; listening with a lack of attention. (Heb. 2: 2.) "See then how you hear" (Luke 8:18.)
(e) Transgression, literally, "going over the limit" (Rom. 4:15). God's commandments are fences, so to speak, that prevent man from entering dangerous territory and thereby suffering damage to his soul.
(f) Fall, or lack, or fall to one side (Eph. 1: 7) in Greek, hence the familiar expression, fall into sin. To sin is to fall from a pattern of conduct.
(g) Defeat is the literal meaning of the word "fall" in Rom. 11:12. In rejecting Christ, the Jewish nation suffered defeat and lost God's purpose.
(h) Wickedness, from a word that means "without worship, or reverence". (Rom. 1:18; 2 Tim. 2:16.) The wicked man is the one who gives little or no importance to God and sacred things. These do not produce any feeling of awe and reverence in him. He is without God because he doesn't want to know about God.
(i) Error (Heb. 9: 7) Describes those sins committed as the result of ignorance, and in this way they differ from those sins committed presumptuously, despite the illuminating light. The man who defiantly decides to do evil, incurs a greater degree of guilt than the one who is caught short, which was taken away by his weakness. ..A natureza do pecado
1. O ensino do Antigo Testamento.
3) A palavra correta traduzida "insensato" (Prov.
2. O ensino do Novo Testamento.
O Novo Testamento lições o pecado como:
(a) Erro do alvo, que expressa a mesma idéia que a conhecida palavra do Antigo Testamento.
(b) Dívida. (Mat. 6:12.)
(Heb. 2: 2.) "Vede pois como ouvis" (Luc. 8:18.)
(e) Transgressão, literalmente, "ir além do limite" (Rom. 4:15).

finished the covers for my caleb and adam playlists! putting them together because like......... i have to. i can’t separate them
there is a caleb/adam playlist too but i’m gonna post that cover separately bc i have a different idea for that one
playlist notes under the cut!
caleb
yes, this playlist is 40% sleeping at last. no, i am not going to apologize for that. they have an album called emotions, it was kind of impossible to not use those songs.
falling for the first time- barenaked ladies: this gives me some strong caleb vibes, and i think it’s because it’s kind of an upbeat but also vaguely self-deprecating song? i mean, come on. I'm so cool, too bad I'm a loser/I'm so smart, too bad I can't get anything figured out/I'm so brave, too bad I'm a baby/I'm so fly, that's probably why it feels just like I'm falling for the first time
son- sleeping at last: And I will try, try, try to breathe 'til it turns to muscle memory I'm only steady on my knees One day I'll stand on my own two feet And I'll run the risk Of being intimate with brokenness Through this magnifying glass I see a thousand finger prints On the surfaces of who I am
soul meets body- death cab for cutie: it’s got some caleb/adam elements, but ultimately i chose to use it as a caleb song, because it feels more specifically like caleb seeking out adam’s emotions because they make him feel more like himself; So brown eyes I'll hold you near/'Cause you're the only song I want to hear/A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere
joy- sleeping at last: i just really love the way emotions are described in the songs on this album (well, except for fear, which has no lyrics and is also not on this playlist). i also just really love The clumsy start of adolescence/The glue that mends our broken remnants/An overwhelming sense of reverence/It's a glimpse of light in a mine of gold for caleb
a new mission- josh whitehouse: ah. this song. this was the song that made this playlist really, really difficult to make, because it was the first song i added and it set a very high bar for literally every other song on the playlist. it just feels so perfect as a caleb song to me, especially early on, when he was still figuring things out and he was constantly overwhelmed by all the feelings around him and in him.
Sometimes I can't control a feeling that I get inside my chest Even with those who are close to me, the ones I call my best I lose sight of all my confidence, in a heavy single step It's happened ever since my childhood, things I thought I'd put to rest I can keep my mind intact by getting on with a new mission I can push myself, having heavy ammunition When something gets me down, for a second I'm distracted I look back amongst the lights I consequently lit my path with
anger- sleeping at last: I mean, it kinda feels like this song has to be on here, yknow? especially with this part, which genuinely feels like how caleb describes anger sometimes: Like wildfire, it starts in my chest/The silence grows louder, ringing out in my head/I feel the Earth shaking under my feet/I feel the pressure building until I can't breathe/And it takes everything/And it all spills out, reckless but honest words leave my mouth
if i say- mumford and sons: aaand now we’re at the sad part of the playlist, because i can’t make happy playlists apparently. this one is definitely a safehouse caleb song; Show me your hands/Are they cleaner than mine?/Show me your face/Did you cross the line?/Show me your eyes/They any drier than mine?/Your soul survives/But peace, you'll never find
organs- of monsters and men: also a safehouse song, but more aftermath than in the middle of things. it’s sadder, more subdued.
sorrow- sleeping at last: more safehouse! who would’ve guessed!
I feel out of focus, or at least indisposed As this strange weather pattern inside me takes hold. Each brave step forward, I take three steps behind. It's mind over matter-- matter over mind.
Slowly, then all at once A single loose thread and it all comes undone
up with the birds- coldplay: caleb likes coldplay, so i had to include one of their songs, and this one is just. kind of perfect?
The sky is blue, Dreamed that lie 'til it's true, Then takin' back the punch I threw, My arms turn wings, Oh, those clumsy things Send me up to that wonderful world And then I'm up with the birds
--
adam
some of these songs are here for tone; the line between what adam would listen to and what helps me draw him is very thin compared to most characters. i did try to make sure they were all songs that fit him at least a little bit, though.
all the kids are depressed- jeremy zucker: i mean. i feel like the title kind of speaks for itself here, honestly. also the lyrics fit pretty well. there isn’t a ton of explaining that needs to be done for this one.
three- sleeping at last: yes i am back on my sleeping at last bullshit no i don’t care this song is perfect go look at the lyrics they’re all good here’s some of them: Maybe I've done enough/Finally catching up/For the first time I see an image of my brokenness/Utterly worthy of love/Maybe I've done enough
velodrome- dessa: this was one of the songs i included primarily for the tone; it’s one of the songs i listen to full volume on my Nice Headphones when i’m feeling too much at once because it kind of just gets rid of everything somehow. it just creates this kind of,, pleasant hollow feeling, if that makes any sense at all. but i realized after i added it that some of the lyrics do kind of fit: With a bell to tell us when we're hungry/There's a bell to tell us when we're tired/A bell that tells us to rise and fight/A bell to rise and die/It's just all bells/Sometimes I ring myself/To see if I might chime
drowning- jay brannan: a lauren playlist song, because like. fuck. that is all i have to say on this song: fuck
trapdoor- twenty one pilots: adam is a top fan because of course he is. i listened to this one a lot in high school so i’m passing it on to adam, and it also felt like a good follow-up to drowning
marching bands of manhattan- death cab for cutie: god this song is perfect. also, another song i listened to a lot in high school.
And it is true what you said That I live like a hermit in my own head But when the sun shines again I'll pull the curtains and blinds to let the light in
Sorrow drips into your heart through a pinhole Just like a faucet that leaks and there is comfort in the sound But while you debate half empty and half full It slowly rises, your love is gonna drown
nine: sleeping at last: god, this song. it fits way too well and it hurts. it’s genuinely difficult to choose lyrics from this song, and i recommend looking at the full lyrics because holy shit, but like
Who am I to say what any of this means? I have been sleepwalking since I was fourteen Now as I write my song, I retrace my steps Honestly, it's easier to let myself forget
Still, I check my vital signs Choked up, I realize I've been less than half myself For more than half my life
Wake up; fall in love again Wage war on gravity There's so much worth fighting for, you'll see Another domino falls either way
better days- radical face: 90% of my playlists have radical face songs. adam especially needed one, though, because his playlist notes mentioned he’d probably actively seek out queer artists, and also there was a youtube q&a where ben cooper said he never writes songs while he’s happy, and honestly the whole discography has adam vibes imo. anyway: When you're always drifting out to sea/Because the ground won't stay beneath your feet/And your head is pouring gasoline/On the person you prefer to be/Try to remind yourself/That it's probably gonna take some time/But there are better days to find
the little things give you away- linkin park: it just has that drowning vibe. i mean, it makes sense, they reference drowning, like, a lot in the song, but i feel like the tone of it adds a lot to that too. like, i can feel that guitar, you know? or maybe that’s just me. idk, it just works, i think.
in a week- hozier: you ever just listen to this in a dark room lying on your back with your eyes closed and yeah? because like, i do sometimes, and i kinda feel like adam does too. i needed a hozier song on this playlist and this felt like the most fitting one to add, and a nice subdued end to the playlist.

Det är dax att åka hem (SWE–ENG)
Most people learning Swedish are refugees who’ve come here in hopes of a better life. The people on tumblr who are learning Swedish are probably interested in the cottagecore vibes of the Swedish countryside, or maybe the city life of Stockholm or some other very white Swedish cultural phenomenon. However, 20% of Sweden’s population is made up of people with another ethnic background than “Swedish” and as a learner of Swedish, you’re gonna have to meet that culture, too. Learning Swedish without this part of Swedish culture is like learning American English and expecting never to meet an African American person. It’s just... no. This song was created before the 2018 elections as a response to alt-right nationalist party Alternativ för Sverige (AFS) cheering outside the airports when immigrants from Afghanistan, Turkey, Eritrea and Morocco were being sent home from various places around Sweden. Their message to these people was: “Det är dags att åka hem” – It’s time to go home. The alt-right nationalist party Sverigedemokraterna (SD for short) had also been gaining a lot of momentum and could’ve become the ruling party of Sweden, which it takes no sociologist to imagine that racism would spike as a result of having a racist party ruling the country. SD wants to send immigrants “home” to countries they’re not safe in. They talk about so called “imported crime”, when this crime is not imported; rather it is created by societal structures in Sweden. This song was created as a call for people to not vote SD, so that we can stay in this country we’ve made our home.

----
*”Mammas död”, here just shortened to “mammas” is kind of like wallah or “I swear to god” in English. Its said when you promise someone womething.
**”Färga av sig” means to stain, or for a color to spread onto other things. Like when you’re washing your clothes, you don’t want to put reds with withes, because they might “färga av sig”, spread their color and stain the other pieces of clothing you’re washing.
***”vem ska fixa era tänder?” It’s a stereotype that immigrants become/are dentists.
****”sne”, correctly spelled “sned” (but pronounced sne either way) literally means crooked, but in this context means someone is a bit off, like a bit dumb.
*****”en shuno” is slang for “a guy”
******”en lallare” is someone who just plays around, who doesn’t do the things they say they do seriously. “Att lalla” is the verb form. “Värsta” literally means the worst, but in this context it means the biggest, for example: “Han är värsta idioten. – he’s the biggest douche.” In other contexts it can be used to express positive emotions, like “sick” in English, for example: “Det här är värsta spelet! – This game is sick!”

short version | long version | youtube | spotify unwrapped
long version will lead you to the 165 song, 10 hour and 34 minute playlist which i’ve been slowly adding to since january. short version will lead you to what you see here. youtube will lead you to the playlist you see here but... wait for it... on youtube. mostly because i know not everyone has spotify. spotify unwrapped will lead you to a mixture of the long and the short version, which is pretty bloated with austin wintory songs because those are what i listen to when i write or read usually.
the long version is much improved in length from last year, which was 261 songs and 17 hours, but that’s mostly because august through december i was pretty bad at keeping track of the music that caught my attention. whoops.
and under the cut is me ranting about music, like usual. enjoy!
i. dark night || philip sheppard *instrumental*
This was my absolute favorite from the Detroit: Become Human soundtrack. I tended to prefer Kara’s songs most because they were gorgeous and haunting and just plain fantastic. Connor’s songs were mostly listened to while writing for the fandom, but Kara’s songs were what I kept coming back to. ii. curse of the i-5 corridor || neko case So I left home and faked my ID I fucked every man that I wanted to be
Sometime in January, I fell in love with eighteen wheels on an uphill climb, which was a 91k hank/connor wip by blackeyedblonde. Hank’s a trucker. Connor occasionally dabbles in sex work to keep himself alive and moving. But like, it’s so much more than that? Anyway, at some point the author linked to this song. I think it may have been on tumblr, but I fell in love with it and neko case.
iii. way down we go || kaleo Oh, 'cause they will run you down, down 'til the dark Yes and they will run you down, down 'til you fall And they will run you down, down 'til you go Yeah, so you can't crawl no more
Speaking of Detroit: Become Human (sensing a theme?), this fanvideo is one of my favorite things in the world. I had it and a couple other fantastic videos like it playing in the background while writing for the fandom. This video, in fact, is what finally made me go in search of the game. iv. almost (sweet music) || hozier The same kind of music haunts her bedroom I'm almost me again, she's almost you Wasteland, Baby was a thing that happened to me. Which would have already been enough to get it on this list, but I also listened to it on repeat while writing my first DBH fic. v. dancing in a room || ezi I know you notice, notice me I might be broken but it's not showing It's how I'm copin', copin' I don’t actually remember where this one came from. I know that sometime when March is still a bit cold, I listened to a playlist on spotify that I can’t find for the life of me. It had a lot of the songs that are about to come up on it, and before I started exclusively listening to audiobooks while I got ready for work in the morning, I listened to random fantastic playlists. vi. epic (pt ii) || anais mitchell & justin vernon And suddenly Hades was only a man with a taste of nectar upon his lips
Hadestown was also a thing that happened to me. This song makes me fucking weak. All of the lyrics are great, the whole song is gorgeous and haunting and so perfect it hurts, but those lyrics above are just *chefs kiss* vii. spanish sahara || foals Forget the horror here Leave it all down here It's future rust and it's future dust
Sometime during the spring, I played Life Is Strange and had a million and one feelings. I played both options for the ending and each one was gut wrenching in its own way. I think I still prefer the one where Chloe lives, but this song has literally haunted me ever since.
viii. obstacles || syd matters Someday we will foresee obstacles Through the blizzard, through the blizzard And this is the song that plays if you make the other choice. Again, SUPER TRAGIC, but also you know. You get to keep your girlfriend. ix. tom thumb || bitter ruin And I know I'll be burnt, but I can stand a flame or two to catch you
This was one of the songs that I discovered on the mysterious spotify playlist! Something I’d forgotten: I discovered Hadestown off of that playlist. Thanks, mystery playlist. You gave me all the ear worms. x. wolves of the revolution || the arcadian wild You're trapped inside of your own heart It's a spectators sport, just play your part You guessed it - from the mystery playlist. They’re all very reminiscent of the Hadestown soundtrack. Vaguely eerie, kind of haunting, a lot beautiful. Makes you feel like you’re a forest creature living on the edge of the swamp. You know: the aesthetic. xi. epic (pt iii) || anais mitchell & justin vernon Where is the treasure inside your chest? Where is your pleasure? Where is your youth? Where is the man with his hat in his hands? Who stands in the garden with nothing to lose I thought about only including this one instead of including part 2, but in the end I loved both too much to choose. Hadestown, man. I hope it comes to Ohio at some point in the near future. xii.  the spine || darren korb & ashley barrett Fingers tied themselves in knots around the heart It beats in time I see the spine of the world
I have never actually played Transistor, which is fucking tragic because I listened to basically the entire soundtrack over and over again for the entire year. There’s at least one more song from the game on this list, but it is really wonderful. Haunting vocals, perfect for writing or reading or driving.  xiii. don’t think twice || hikaru utada I'm only crying 'cause I never dreamed It'd take this long, it'd take this long Hi, I played Kingdom Hearts 3 this year. And I cried so fucking much. I had some issues with the game, namely how the ending was such a clusterfuck of boss fight after boss fight and emotional character arc resolutions so it all felt kind of rushed? But the gameplay was superb, the selfie thing was ingenious, and I did cry at least six different times while I was stressing my way through fighting boss fights with blurry eyes. xiv. face my fears || hikaru utada Oh, let me face, let me face, let me face my fears Won't be long, won't be long, I'm almost here Watch me cry all my tears
So like, if you care at all you’ve probably already seen it, but the opening cutscene of KH3 was to Face My Fears, and I’m gonna be real honest here - I didn’t like it at first. I moaned and groaned about Skrillex and how it was nothing like Simple and Clean or Passion/Sanctuary. But it grew on me to the point that it was actually my most listened to song this year. Watch me cry all my tears, indeed. xv. waves || chloe moriondo Make me into more than a goner Perhaps a little bit stronger Thicker skin, less needy, And maybe to not bruise so damn easily, but you can't
I don’t remember where I found this song either? Maybe mystery playlist but probably not. Either way, it’s pretty and uh, I too want to slow the world down. xvi. ashes || bear mccreary -instrumental- Man, oh man, let’s talk about how good of a game God of War was. It was so good, guys. The game play was excellent, the world was gorgeous, and the storyline was interesting. And the music went so, so hard. Between Horizon Zero Dawn and the new God of War, I have basically been ruined for all other games. Also, dad protagonists, am I right? xvii. wake up, moving on || kevin penkin -instrumental-
Did not actually realize this was part of a soundtrack to a game? But it’s very lilty. Has that French quirky romcom vibe to it and I listened to the crap out of it in early summer. xviii. paper boats || darren korb & ashley barrett The river always finds the sea So helplessly Like you find me
Another Transistor song. I really love Ashley Barrett’s voice. I should probably at some point play the game. xix. call off your ghost || dessa I hope she makes you happy It's just a lot to ask to watch your future walking past me
This song played during one of the weather segments of Welcome to Night Vale and made me remember how much I absolutely adore Dessa. Her voice is fantastic and I love the way that her songs flow. Also, this song gives me personal feels. xx. power over me || dermot kennedy I wanna be king in your story I wanna know who you are I want your heart to beat for me I have absolutely no idea where I heard this one. It might have been playing on the radio while I was driving somewhere? I played it a lot during the summer.  xxi. a future for the krogan || christopher lennertz -instrumental- It’s been a while since I played Mass Effect, but this song came up on a writing playlist and I have been listening to it ever since.
xxii. mine || bazzi Running circles 'round my mind Even when it's rainy all you ever do is shine
Shrug emoji.
xxiii. bite || charlie cunningham Stone cold faces let you keep you poisoning your blood Cut you open then you'll see poison in your blood
Also shrug emoji? Most of the time when I’m doing these there’s fandom connatations to half the songs, but these year I wasn’t heavily invested in a whole lot of fandoms so these are mostly just songs I listened to while I was a) driving, b) in the shower, or c) while reading.
xxiv. wait for me || andre de shields Ain't no compass, brother, there ain't no map Just a telephone wire and the railroad track Keep on walking and you don't look back
And here’s the last Hadestown song on the list. It’s just... really good, okay. Really, really good. xxv. birds || imagine dragons & elisa Seasons, they will change Life will make you grow Dreams will make you cry, cry, cry
I think there’s been an Imagine Dragons song on here every year since they came out with Radioactive. This is the only song of theirs I heard this year, but pairing their voice with Elisa’s was fucking genius because this song makes me feel the chorus in my soul. xxvi. crazy || patsy cline You'd love me as long as you wanted And then some day You'd leave me for somebody new I was at a bar, and my friend has just announced that he was getting married to his girlfriend of ten years in Vegas, on a ferris wheel, by an Elvis impersonator. We started listening to Elvis songs to figure out what he’d play, and then we got distracted listening to a bunch of old love songs. This one is more heartbreak than love, but I’ve always loved Patsy’s voice. xxvii. bury a friend || billie eilish Bury a friend, try to wake up
I was really slow to the Billie Eilish train. One of my friends recommended her music and it’s just so chaotic and fantastic that I can’t believe I didn’t fall for it earlier. This song in particular was a Billy Hargrove song for a while.
xxviii. the seed || aurora Feed me sunlight, feed me air In a place where nothing matters Feed me truth and feed me prayer Aurora’s got one of those truly lovely voices. Also I like songs about how the earth should eat humanity.
xxix.  eleventh dimension || julian casablancas 'Cause no one really cares or wonders why anymore Oh, I got music, coming out of my hands and feet and kisses
Back in 2011, when I was still watching Doctor Who, someone made this video which blew my little heart away. I rediscovered this song while we were driving back to Ohio from our annual beach trip and managed to get everyone in the car hooked on it for weeks afterwards.
xxx. sunflower || post malone You're a sunflower I think your love would be too much
Into the Spiderverse! Was so! Good!
xxxi. what’s up danger || blackway, black caviar I like it all on the edge just like you, ayy I like tall buildings so I can leap off of 'em
So like, that scene, right? The one that had everyone losing their collective shit? I saw gifs before I watched the movie, and goddamn, it lived up to every single expectation I ever had. I made Nick watch it with me, and he groaned a lot because honestly he is not the biggest fan of super hero movies, but even he admitted that it was the best damn Spiderman movie we’d ever seen. It was powerful and clever and heartwarming and funny and the music and animation were both fan-freaking-tastic.
xxxii. bad guy || billie eilish I'm the bad guy, duh Can you believe that I actually didn’t know about this video until @nijuukoo did art? I mean, I’d definitely heard it and liked it before hand, but the fucking video, man. That pic of Vanitas showering Ven in hearts is still the background of my desktop.(It would have been the one of him sitting on Ansem while he’s doing push ups, but it didn’t work with my screen)
xxxiii. elevate || dj khalil I jump off this building to save these civilians My strength and my honor is trusted by children I'm ready and willing to fight all these villains No chaos or killings, my style is so brilliant I really, really liked the music to Into the Spiderverse.
xxxiv. must’ve been || chromeo I must've been high when I met you Out of my mind when I decided to love you
There was a Harringrove fic that I read during the summer that made the connection between this song and modern AU Billy and Steve. I thought it was @lymricks but maybe not. Either way - I listened to this for like three weeks straight while reading about Billy and Steve flirting at the pool. Ha! Found it - you, through half-shut eyes by @brawlite.
xxxv. dark matter || les friction Bring me your soul, bring me your hate In my name you will create Bring me your fear, bring me your pain You will destroy in my name
There was an Outsider fanvid. I tripped over it.
xxxvi. lark of my heart || eliza rickman Lark of my heart - dance in the dark and say you love me Lark of my heart - right from the start and say you love me
This one was another that I found on a random playlist while I was reading and I just love the rhythm of the song. I sat right up and favorited that sucker before I lost it.
xxxvii. dancing on my own — robyn I'm just gonna dance all night I'm all messed up, I'm so outta line Stilettos on broken bottles I'm spinning around in circles Okay. Okay, okay, okay. So there was that tumblr post that went around a while back where a bunch of subway riders who just got back from a Robyn concert started singing while waiting for the train and I just. It makes me so fucking happy. Like, I remember the night I clicked on that video. I’d never heard the song before, but I didn’t need to because the level of fucking joy and unity in that video literally brought tears to my eyes. Sometimes, humans are fucking beautiful.
xxxviii. hungover in the city of dust || autoheart We’re hungover in the city of dust So let our minds run round in circles While we figure it all out
I really adore autoheart. They did Sailor Song, which was on my Top Songs post last year and honestly, according to the plays on spotify, probably should have still been on my list this year, but alas - this is the abridged version. Every song I’ve heard from them I’ve loved. The entire bridge makes me shiver, it’s just so wonderfully executed.
xxxix. season of the witch || lana del rey You've got to pick up every stitch, The rabbits running in the ditch, Oh no, must be the season of the witch In October I watched Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and it was super spooky and really great and probably one of the best movies I saw this year? But like, also this cover by Lana del Rey was the best damn thing about it. Someone made a witchy video that was great too but I can’t find it now. xl. bird song || juniper vale Listen to the sound of my heart beat slow Yeah, my heart's like yours, my heart's like yours Listen to the sound, oh it feels like home When our hearts beat slow together
I really like Juniper Vale. I found them last year when I stumbled across their cover of Singing In The Rain, and they churn out some really quality music.
xli. paradise valley || honey & the sting So you'll have to hold me down Could you just hold me down build the levees higher This song was always going to make it to 2019′s list too. It’s just too damn good. Thank you, Wolf 359. You’ve given me a gift that is still giving three years later.
xlii. my hallelujah || autoheart Thought I found a new religion In you who was I kidding There's nowhere to go Except for under quarantine
More Autoheart! Just listen to that melody! That flow!
xliii. furthest star || dirt poor robins We'll find our hiding place Clear across the Milky Way Beyond the galaxy On the furthest star that we see
This song reminds me a lot of Muse back in their early days. I was half-napping on the couch listening to, you guessed it, a random playlist on spotify, and I liked this song enough to surface from the edges of slumber to favorite it so I could find it again.
xliv. play dirty || kevin mcallister Would you get the Devil this dance? Would you be a part of his plans? Now you got some blood on your hands
There was a fanvid. It was good and basically caught me up on Preacher. The song is also really catchy.
xlv. it’s quiet uptown || kelly clarkson Look at where we are Look at where we started Last year, this was on my list because of an EOS 10 playlist. This year it’s on my list because I still fucking love it. Also I saw Hamilton this year and it was really phenomenal. I cannot get over how good it was.
xlvi. pas de deux || michael abels -instrumental- I watched Us in late October/early November and this entire sequence was really lovely and eerie and just all around fantastic. I loved the mirroring throughout the movie, and it all came together in this stunning confrontation.
xlvii. i got 5 on it || michael abels, luniz, mi I got five on it
Us had a really good soundtrack.
xlviii. one day more || les mis cast One more dawn One more day One day more!
About a month ago I got to see Les Mis in theater and I cried like six or seven times. That is not an exaggeration I was a fucking mess. As much as I’ve adored every musical I have seen up until this point, I have never had a musical affect me the way this one did. It was incredibly powerful and the experience was worth every damn cent.
xlix. into the unknown || idina menzel, aurora Everyone I've ever loved is here within these walls I'm sorry, secret siren, but I'm blocking out your calls
Like, I know it’s cool to hate on Frozen because it got so popular, but Idina Menzel is a queen with the voice of an angel and I’m sorry, but the movies were good. Also, Elsa is very, very pretty and this shit was very, very gay.
l. show yourself || idina menzel & evan rachel wood Come to me now Open your door Don't make me wait One moment more
Sorry, I don’t make the rules. Elsa gets all the best numbers. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, folks. Happy listening.

Joseph for the soft headcanon meme...... bonus points if you also do it for your oc 👀
alkdsfj a;slkdjfda;l ksdhf;al ksjdf a;lksef;alshdfa
I had like a whole thing written out and this stupid fucking piece of shit website ate it. I’m so mad.
kdfa kjsdfh
ANYWAY
From here:
Joseph:
So, in my headcanon, Joseph is prone to migraines. Hence the windowless church, the tinted glasses, and the dark room where he gives the eulogies. When he has migraines, Joseph is incredibly sensitive to light, sound, and smell. So he prefers unscented soaps, deodorants, and laundry soaps. Joseph just smells like Joseph. Clean sweat, a little musky, but it’s not unpleasant.
Delphine is the exception to his no scents rule. Her perfume is floral.
I’ve written before about a headcanon I have that one of their first dates, they went on a walk and Joseph picked a violet for her. Now she wears the floral perfume because the scent of violets reminds her of him, and vice versa.
What Joseph wears to bed is entirely dependent on what stage of life he’s in. When he was sleeping rough, he wore everything he owned to bed to sleep. He didn’t have a bed. When John found him, he started to sleep in the nude. It was a luxury, feeling cool sheets on his skin, sleeping in a room with AC. For another, he felt safe enough to disrobe. He didn’t have to sleep with one eye open, concerned that someone was going to steal what little he had, or shank him for a sleeping spot. When he got to Montana, he tried that, but lbr, it’s much too cold. He usually sleeps in pajama bottoms, either shirtless or with an undershirt.
When he and Del get to that stage, they do the couple thing where she wears the pajama tops, he wears the bottoms, and everyone is happy.
Obvs my favorite ship is Joseph x Del (but if I had to choose another, it would be Joseph x Regan, who belongs to the wonderful @josephseeds-rosary)
See, I don’t think any of the Seeds have friends (although you can pry the headcanon that John and Nick were friends when he first came to Hope County from my cold, dead hands)
Joseph has his siblings and his flock, and the Peggies revere him too much as a holy figure to be buddies. I feel like murder, looting, and kidnapping aside, he and Pastor Jerome could be friends. In another life...
That’s my headcanon. Non-cult AU, Joseph and Pastor Jerome like to go out, drink coffee, and debate about philosophy and theology. Sometimes they go to the Spread Eagle to play darts, and Joseph is the DD because he doesn’t drink. One time he hit the Arcade Guy with a dart, but no one knows if it was on purpose or not because they were all pretty wasted at that point.
Nature Boy - Aurora
OH OH OH ALSO Children’s Work - Dessa is such a Jacob and Joseph song. Everyone go listen to it and then come scream with me.
Joseph is an ambush predator, maybe one that uses aggressive mimicry - promising nourishment as a way of attracting prey. Uhhh, I’m going with Zone-Tailed Hawk on this one.
Joseph sleeps like he’s trying to grab all four corners of the bed at once, totally spread eagle. Del has to be the big spoon and curl up at his back or she gets shoved to the edge of the mattress.
Joseph is one of those weirdos who drinks room temperature tap water and enjoys it.
Therapy, a stable and supportive family, and just tons of love.
BONUS ROUND!
Delphine:
As mentioned before: floral perfume.
Del also likes really strong scents like sandalwood, lemongrass, and ylang ylang, but because of Joseph’s migraines, she quit using them.
Before Joseph, Del wore just about anything. Tank tops and shorts, t-shirts she stole from Staci and panties, or nightdresses. She’s not really a big fan of sleeping naked, so it has to be after Joseph has worn her out, when she’s a satisfied puddle on the bed and can’t be bothered to get up to dress. Joseph also really likes seeing her in his shirts, which is mainly why they just started divvying up pairs of pajamas.
Again, Joseph x Del is my otp. I don’t really see her working with anyone else in FC5 canon.
Another cute headcanon for them is that Joseph is totally a house husband. He loves staying home in New Eden with their little flock of children all around him. Del hogs all the babies, but once they hit toddler-preteen ages, there’s just constantly a little line of kids following him around like ducklings.
There’s bickering, of course - with eight children it’s hard to avoid - but it all comes from a place of love. His children have never known what it is to fear a parent, and they never will. They will never have cause to doubt that he loves them, very much. Del knows the same. After all, the Father’s love is unending, even after seventeen years.
Staci x Del is my brotp, dude. They grew up together, and after her family was killed, Del and her older sister went to live with the Pratts. (btw, I totally headcanon that Staci’s dad was a deputy, too) They live together, they work together. They’re the terrible twins, you hardly ever see one without the other.
Cute headcanon is that when Del had nightmares when she was younger, Staci was the first person she ran to. More often than not, his parents found them snuggled up together and she treated him more like a life size stuffed animal than a boy. She never got out of that habit.
Wishing Girl - Lola Marsh
Red Panda. Because they’re adorable and totally ridiculous.
Del used to always sleep on the right side of the bed, on her right side, in the fetal position. However, since Joseph doesn’t like sharing the mattress, she either has to be pressed up against his back or on top of him like a very heavy blanket if she doesn’t want to get shoved off the bed.
Del likes to say she’s a coffee fiend, but she can’t actually drink it black. She likes lots of milk and sugar in it to make it palatable. She also doesn’t drink alcohol.
She and Joseph need tickets to Tahiti.

Rules: Simply answer the following 21 questions and tag 21 people (or more!) you’d like to get to know more!
Name / Nickname: Nicky
Sign: saggitarius (I have arrows!)
Height: 5'7″ish...it varies? I guess?
Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw
Last thing I Googled: I was trying to use the word “sartorial“ in a story but I was spelling it too badly for spellcheck to help, so various misspellings of that until I got to the right answer. (I like how this is basically the same answer as yours with different details.)
Favourite musician/s: Uhhhh....let’s go with “folks I’ve been listening to lately,” shall we? Aurora, Svrcina, Rachel Rose Mitchell, Seanan McGuire (yes, that Seanan McGuire! No really, music too!), Pink, Ruelle, Nightwish, Tatu, Loreena McKennit, Blackpink, Hayley Kiyoko, Dessa, Within Temptation...
Last song I listened to: Here We Stand by Hidden Citizen featuring Svrcina is currently playing on my shuffle, so...that.
Song stuck in my head: See above. Although it was almost Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen because that lingered for a while after a Good Omens fan vid I just watched.
Followers: Um, 247??? I assume most of those are old, defunct blogs... O_o.
Following: 133 (but it’s mostly the same ten or fifteen people on my dash tbh, and that is not a complaint; I really like those ten or fifteen people!)
do you get asks: Nope. Well, except on rare occassion when I piss someone off...but even then, not nearly as much as I probably deserve! XD
Amount of Sleep: ughhhh let’s not talk about this right now; I stayed up ‘til 4am yesterday because I hit a Writing Groove and I do not have regrets, but I am sorry. Not as sorry as I was when my alarm went off this morning, but sorry.
Lucky Number: Nope. But I always used to pick 2 for things in school, because for some reason that was considered a “boring” number and no one else ever wanted it, but it was almost number one which meant it tended to be handy...
What I’m Wearing: maroon trousers, striped green and purple socks, and a navy blue shirt with a stylized blood drop on the front over which is printed the Mandalorian saying “aliit ori’shya tal’din”...in the Mando’a alphabet, of course! (Translation: family is more than blood.)
Dream Trip: Dream trip? Back to France--Provence and Paris and Angoulême--and, because it’s a dream, I actually speak French. More realistic trip I am longing to take sometime soon? I want to take my mom to Wizarding World of Harry Potter, as she has never been...and I want to go to Star Wars Galaxies. And possibly live there. (Oh but if it’s a Dream Trip, can it be a Star Wars Galaxies that exists in Legends Continuity? Please, yes?)
Favourite Food: There are too many foods I love to pick, so I will say durian.
Instruments: Celtic Harp. Yeah, really. But don’t let that fool you into thinking I am actually musically talented, because I am not. In fact I have both forms of cognitive amusia (beat deafness and tone deafness) mildly so yeah, no musical talent. Can’t read music either (long story). But I do know the basics of playing a Celtic Folk Harp and hey, good news about a harp? It is practically impossible to make them sound bad. So that’s convenient!
Languages: American English with fragments of Mando’a, French, and Sindarin.
Favourite Song/s: Oh man uhhh....hey, let’s go with “my theme song” instead because that actually has an answer that doesn’t just involve me scrolling through my latest shuffle playlist and writing down random titles lol: Weird Friendless Kid by Emilíana Torrini. (No I am serious to the degree that my gradeschool lunchbox was actually even purple).
Random Fact: I hold my pencil really really really fucking weirdly, to the degree that I have never met anyone who does even remotely similar, and complete strangers often stop mid-sentence to gawk when they notice me writing (not so much drawing; apparently it’s fine to draw like that but when they find out I write that way too that’s when shit gets weird) and I’ve never had a writing cramp.
Aesthetic: ...I’m only supposed to have one? Okay, how about Lazy Geek?
Uhhh okay @derinthemadscientist @hsavinien @superdragonoftheeast @overzelos @voldemorrissey @quasarsniffer @alanfromrochester @vonboomslang if you want to and anyone else who is interested!

Writing Meme
Tagged by the wonderfully talented @lovingnikiforov. Thank you, Dessa. Sorry, It took so long to post this back.
What is your total word count on AO3?
Lemme see atm it is sitting at …. 134,655
How often do you write?
I do try to write something everyday, but it doesn’t always happen.  Work, motherhood, and even my certification take a good amount of my time. However, my brain is constantly going whether it is my fics or my original works. Usually, it happens at the most inconvenient times like in the middle of work, or at a kid’s function, etc.
Do you have a routine for writing?
Sometimes. For my chapter stories, I try to plot. Doesn’t always happen in the beginning but at some point. I will put some type of organization into it. My one-shots, usually, just are a moment of inspiration. When I am writing, I tend to want something to listen to either a playlist or movie or show in the background. Just depends on my mood.
What are your favorite kinks/tropes/pairings
Kinks: That’s a long list! Gunplay and knifeplay seems to be high on the list. I have more but then this would get really long.
tropes: I pretty much am into anything. I haven’t found one trope that I didn’t like.
pairing: SOUKOKU is my favorite. Though, I do have a spot for Roy/Ed as well.
Do you have a favorite fic of yours?
Hmmm...that’s a hard question. I love Heathens because its my first attempt at a Chapter story in a long while. It has been a learning experience for me as a writer and helped me to grow.
Your fic with the most kudos?
Just a call, still reigns supreme with Luckiest Man close behind (Seriously, tysm to everyone for reading these pieces of fluff)
Anything you don’t like about your writing?
Honestly, there are days where I just hate my writing in general. There is nothing specific that comes to mind. I’m still learning and growing to overcome my weakness and I’ve come pretty far in the last year and half of being back into writing. My older work from waaay back when makes me cringe. Lol. It's a learning process. I’ve had wonderful support that has helped me grow and become better. And I will continue to do so.
Now something you do like (about your writing)?
I love the way I dig deep into a character. I sink myself into their thoughts, their actions and it comes across in my writing.
This was fun!! I will tag @hello-sweetie17, @quinnlocke, @xoinks, @1shycat, @rustingroses, @redamaranth, @oh-tetrabiblos, @paperclippages and anyone else you wish to do so

Top 5 favorite Poems/Songs
Hooooo boy we could be here for... a while on this. I am gonna give you not one, not two, but THREE whole lists, cause I cannot try to lump these together, and also give the disclaimer that if you ask me this again in, like, three days, I may have a totally different set of answers. ... I really like poetry and music. I’m sorry, you bashed the Ramble Button.
All in no particular order:
Top Five Poems:
- Choose Your Own Adventure, from the Portland Poetry Slam, performed by Brenna Twohy, Alex Dang, Doc Luben, and Leyna Rynearson. Smacks me in the face in the best possible way every single time.
“There is no creature more terrifying than the one in the room when you are alone, but not fighting it is not an option.”
- The Quiet World, by Jeffrey McDaniel. I have been obsessed with the idea of the world of this poem since I first heard it; I’ve written fic off of it and I mean to do it again someday.
“Late at night, I call my long distance lover,/proudly say I only used fifty-nine today./I saved the rest for you.”
- Not Doing Something Wrong Isn’t the Same as Doing Something Right, by Cristin O’Keefe Aptowicz. Haunting descriptions of loneliness and that last fucking line gets me every time.
“My body was abandoned construction, restoration scaffolding/that became permanent. My body’s unfinished became its finished.”
- We Were Emergencies, by Buddy Wakefield. Veeeeery close toss-up with one of his other poems, but this one’s stuck with me for so long that I’ve got to go with it at the end. Used to recite it to myself when I needed something to focus on.
“...if my heart/really broke/every time I fell from love/I’d be able to offer you confetti by now./But hearts don’t break, y’all,/they bruise and get better.”
- The Spill (Love in the Time of Zombies), by Guante. Again, I could literally list every single thing he’s ever put up, but this one eventually wins out. Hits every emotion I could ask for.
“But it is not on us to build that world. It is not on us to survive this one. Ours is not a love song sprouted from redemption, hope, or even longing.... But it is a love song. Sing it under your breath. Sharpen it every morning.”
- Confessions of an Uneducated Queer, by Lauren Zuniga. I’m sneaking this one in here because I realized I hadn’t but can’t take off any of the others. It’s just really important to me.
“This is for trying on new words, dusty attic words, slick spoon words, fuck-up-everybody’s-shit-and-look-good-doing-it words.”
(Honorable mentions: All the Brenna Twohy, all of Jeannine Hall Gailey, all Jeanann Verlee, all of Rudy Francisco, all the rest of Guante, all Buddy Wakefield but especially A Choir of Honest Killers, The Storyteller by Mark van Doren, We Remember Your Childhood Well by Carol Ann Duffy, Just Take a Show by Jared Singer, Building by Javon Johnson, ..... look there’s a lot in my poetry folders I’m gonna make myself stop.)
Top Five Songs:
- Model Ships, Luke Westaway. I’ve just been listening to a lot of his stuff lately because it hits deep at the core of all my feelings but the franticness in this one is getting me through right now.
“And I’ll be honest, most days I don’t see the attraction/But some days, my god, I could use a distraction/’Cause I feel like I’m losing my grip -- model ships!”
- Timebomb, Walk the Moon. Just fucking amazing to listen to. Makes me want to dance every time.
“Afraid to light the fuse again/Start a fire, lose a friend/But when your heart opens/It’s like I’m ready to fall again”
- Moderation, Florence and the Machine. Florence has a lot of great songs but this has basically been my favorite since it dropped. The lyrics, the music, it’s just so good.
“Want me to love you in moderation/Who do you think you’re talking to?/And bow your head in the house of God/Little girl, who do you think you are?/You think you need it, you think you want love/You wouldn’t want it if you knew what it was”
- Good Grief, Dessa. Dessa’s another who just... does she have any bad songs? I honestly don’t think so. I considered Little Mercy, because that one’s fantastic too, and I considered The Lamb, but that one’s even more raw and painful than this. Or Children’s Work, the first one I knew from her and still one of the best. But Good Grief is just so tightly wound in the best of ways and such great writing.
“Night falls, day breaks:/time has a funny kind of violence/and I’m trying to keep in mind/it can’t leave you the way it finds you/Good grief:/I’ve heard people say it,/what a phrase, what a state to be in/but I don’t know where they go to get- get that feeling”
- That Unwanted Animal, The Amazing Devil. Battle Cries got me through a lot last year and is probably my most-listened-to but this one is just. fucking shivers every time.
“Oh, and you rip my ribcage open/And devour what’s truly yours/And as our screaming joins in unison/I cry out to the Lord/Because if we join our hands in prayer enough/To God, I imagine it all starts to sound like applause”
(Honorable mentions: I’m gonna make myself not go through too many because we could be here all day, but I’ve been listening to Step One from Kinky Boots a lot lately to try and get myself going and deal with all the stress, and it’s becoming my pump-up anthem. And I can’t believe there’s no Vienna Teng on here. Why is music so good.)
Top Five Poems Set to Music because I CAN:
- Lady of Shallot by Loreena McKennit - Stolen Child, also by Loreena McKennit - Mad Girl’s Love Song, either the version by Fisher or by 10 String Symphony depending on my mood - I Am Stretched on Your Grave, various versions - The entirety of Cats
Honorable mention to The Dark Night of the Soul and Propsero’s Speech, because I grew up on Loreena McKennit and I love her, and also to the Fame version of I Sing the Body Electric, because I’m more familiar with my mother singing it than the original version.
