hi nici! wanted to ask you why did you decide to learn psychology and what's the most appealing thing about it to you? i myself like learning about it (not learning learning i mean in a scientific way, just reading some articles) because our psyche does really fascinate me! and the fact there's still an enormous amount of it to be explored 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 mind blowing, really
ohh, i don't know exactly when or why i started to like psychology. one day i just randomly woke up and was like, yeah that's my shit. guess i've always been fascinated by medicine, but like the mind is even more intriguing for me.
with physical illness, it's often easier to see what's wrong yk a broken leg is obviously a broken leg. mental illness is hidden, affecting how you think, feel, even what you perceive. i think that's so interesting ??
like a slight imbalance of chemicals in the brain, a little too much dopamine and you start hallucinating, a little too little serotonin and you might get suicidal thoughts. like ?? idk just so interesting to me.
and you're right, there's so much more to discover, like what is the mind even ?? we still don't know, even that's literally what makes us us. like our personality, our conscious and unconscious cognition, like ?? yeah again, so interesting.
there's so much to explore within psychology, like social behaviors or educational or work psychology but i'm particularly drawn to the neurological and clinical side of things and want to work in that field one day.
also wrote my bachelor's thesis about nightmares and the link to suicide thoughts, and i want to delve deeper into that for my master's too.
also learning about psychology definitely helps you understand yourself better. not to like self-diagnose but to be more mindful of your own thoughts and motivations.
also i think that studying psychology has improved my relationships with friends, boyfriend and yk overall other people, as by being more reflective of your own and others' behavior, you can often resolve potential problems before they even escalate. so yeah, definitely fascinating !!
would love to hear, what fascinates you about it. & hope you have a great day ♡

Vibrating rn because I'm just so happy at having been able to put my life sort of back together again the last few weeks which means I'm on track to do my bachelors next year and !! I'm so excited to write it!! I was so nervous about having too concrete a thesis-statement already and being too "set" before I even knew if they were gonna let me write whatever I wanted, but my Fav Prof asked about my ideas and after I'd unloaded my entire abstract and bibliography on him and shared my concerns about it being too concrete already he was like "You're fine queen, you're basically at liberty to do whatever you want and alot of students need help finding ANYTHING to write about but you're already all set. Also you're smart and talented as hell" paraphrasing there but that was the gist of it

Thank you for doing this! If it's okay, can I please get a letter from Ingo for Kate, she/her, who is currently away to a different region for getting bachelor's and is writing her thesis and getting ready to defend it soon and is very nervous (totally not me projecting my current situation haha)
Also let's pretend in previous letters she complained about a very convoluted and anxiety-inducing ways the professors and other people there made everyone deal with paperwork with crazy deadlines lmao
Kate,
The final days of your tiresome journey are coming to head! You are frightened, you are stressed, you said as much in you last letter! But you are so close! And I know you can keep going, finish your degree, and face the world!
You are my shining light! The light on the front of my train, guiding me through even the darkest of tunnels! I know you will continue to shine even if you are afraid. Because you are strong, and you can finish your degree with flying colors!
If you'd like, we can arrange a video call so you can practice your defense with Emmet and I! Then, when you actually present, you can imagine it is us you're presenting to! Would that help at all?
Cheering you on from Unova,
Ingo

Hi!!! So, this is going to be a weird (and probably invasive) question to ask a stranger on the internet but. um.
So I saw your add-on to the post about historical remedies and such and it FASCINATED me. The cross between historical and scientific study was just... so cool!
And I'm in High school, right now, and I'm still trying to decide what I want to major in. So I wanted to ask--
What major did you write that thesis for? How did you get into that major (like, what kind of credits/ background/grades did you need to get accepted)?
And-- this one you don't have to answer at all, bc I don't want to pressure you into doxxing yourself or anything, but-- What college/colleges did you go to/ consider going to that had good programs for said major? (I live in America, if that helps?)
Sorry for the random (and a lil' aggressive) questioning on major details of your life is uncalled for-- which it probably is. I just!!! Your research was really cool and it felt like something I'd want to consider pursuing!!!
TY for your time <3
No worries! None of those questions are what I would consider really invasive, and I don't mind talking about the basics.
That thesis was one that I wrote for my Master's degree. My major in undergrad was history—no specific area of history because it wasn't an option at my school—just history. While there were some classes I was required to take, whenever I was able to choose my own classes, I took classes that dealt with medieval history, which was something that interested me. Most of my large writing projects in undergrad I wrote on medieval topics. My uni didn't even have that many of those classes, but I basically found ways to work those subjects into my work anyway lol. In topics as broad as history, you have to carve out your own space.
I graduated with good grades and went straight into graduate school. I'm not sure I would recommend going straight into grad school after undergrad, but I knew myself and knew that if I didn't do it right away, I would not go back.
At the graduate level, no matter where you go, if you study history you will pick an area/region of history to study in depth. I chose medieval history, and within that carved out an unofficial specialization on early medieval British history. My advisor wasn't even an expert in that topic, but she was supportive, and connected me with other academics who knew more about it. I was a bit of an oddity in the department because I was one of the few students who was getting only a masters degree, rather than going for a PhD. The only reason I did this was because I was also studying for another degree which was more relevant for my desired career path; I chose to study history as in addition for the broadened experience and also because it really interested me.
Now, I know you're in high school still and this kind of decision is a long ways off, but for the sake of my on conscience I am going to pause here to say that you should not get a masters in history unless you are either going on for a PhD and are committed to a career in academia, or if you have another solid career path open to you (like having another degree or other experience). Studying history can give you a lot of great skills and experience and insight that will make you compatible for a lot of jobs, however, if you already have a bachelors, a masters degree in something like history will generally not increase your marketability, and can be very expensive. Alright, you didn't ask for career advice, but I couldn't not say it.
But yeah! As far as prerequisites and such, it's a fairly straightforward matter of keeping up your grades, which may sound kinda lame. The harder and more vital part of pursuing the research you want is to define your goals, communicate those with your professors, and foster relationships with professors who can help connect you with opportunities to present your research and meet others in the field. If you have the chance to present at an undergrad conference, do it. If your professor has office hours, talk to them not only about the current assignments, but about the kinds of things you're interested in. By the time you're a senior in college, having positive relationships with one or more professors will help you find connections beyond college.
This has turned into career advice, I'm sorry if that's not what you were after! I hope that helps.

Where in Florida did you go to school? I just graduated with my bachelor's and want to get my MFA in Creative Writing. Would you recommend the school you went to?
Congratulations on your bachelor's!
I went to the University of Central Florida. I definitely wouldn't recommend it for undergrad, it was a terrible 4 years where I barely learned anything and spent most of my time smoking weed or yearning for New York. I had cool professors and made the most of college but, eh, it really was not the right place for me.
THAT SAID, for an MFA, they have good faculty, my undergraduate thesis chair is an amazing person, and some of the professors there try to teach you things like The Business Of Being A Writer, something crucial and not-well-talked about, even in MFA circles.
I definitely think their MFA program is solid, but when it comes to your MFA, it's better two think about three things:
What are you trying to accomplish in your MFA? Obviously, you want to become a better writer, but what do you want to write? And are you looking for connections? Do you want to stay in academia? What do you hope to do accomplish after you get the degree?
Who are the faculty at the schools you're considering? And not necessarily how famous are they, but do they have faculty who work within the kinds of writing you want to accomplish? Have they mastered something you'd really like to do well in? Do you like their writing?
What does funding look like? How much funding does the school offer? What are their scholarship and fellowship programs like? What is the likelihood you get a fellowship, and what are the requirements? How much debt do you think you'll take on? How much are you willing to take on?
The only reason I went to UCF was because I got a full ride there, and the only reason I can afford to live in New York is because I don't have student debt. Obviously, it's stupid that money should be a factor in deciding where you study and whom you study under, but the career opportunities for MFA graduates are less than ideal, and a lot of the careers out there do not pay the bills at first.
I say all this because, an MFA is an amazing opportunity. 2+ years just to eat, breathe, and shit writing with other writers? It will certainly change your life. But the best thing you can give yourself as a writer is stability, and you want to be sure your MFA is in service not just of your creative potential, but also your ability to create a life in service of writing.
I might have gone off track from what you asked me, but I hope this helps! @runaway-horses

Hi! Congratulations on finishing your thesis!
I'm an undergrad student who needs to write her bachelor's thesis but I haven't started yet and I have a little less than 3 months to do it - from the intros, framework, data gathering, results, etc. I am freaking out. Do you think I can do it? I need support.
Congrats again!!!
tysm!!
oof, that's rough! keep in mind im a sociology student so my perspective is entirely based on behavioral sciences research and I did a qualitative content analysis so my data was all just posts online and I didn't have to recruit subjects or coordinate anything much for that
if you're in the social sciences, I would say it's possible but definitely really tough. I would talk to whatever kind of mentors you have in your life (faculty, grad students, etc.) about making sure your project is doable in the timeframe you have. a big issue with student projects is they end up having to be scaled down (my project went from an analysis of 3 posts to 1 because of all the comments and i spent a lot of time doing work i didn't end up using at all)
i do have a little bit of advice as far as what I've noticed has saved me a lot of time (or that i wish i would've done)
when you do your literature review write all your citations with your notes, do the full citation when you decide the paper is likely going to be something you use and keep all that info in one spot
line up friends to proofread ahead of the time! give them bits while you work on other parts so you can go back and revise those while they look over what you just finished (it also gives you time away from your work so you can judge it better)
put the citations in as you write! good god i am so bad at this but it is SO important and it really sucks to write your lit review, leave out a few citations, and revisit it after you've done your analysis and realize you have no clue where that paper went
you may need to keep track of dates that you wouldn't intuitively keep track of e.g., when you start data collection, i didn't do this and got very lucky that it ended up being passively collected because i needed it
and because im a planner, i would also suggest you maybe talk to whoever the authorities are for you about a worst case scenario. can you defend later than the given deadline if you need extra time to polish your manuscript? are you able to take a few credits in the summer and graduate then? etc. etc.
all in all, a thesis is a grueling process no matter what but it's very rewarding and i don't know you but I'm certain you're a very capable student! if i can be of any help please feel free to get in touch again and best of luck !!!

I really wanna know more about MBTI and Astrology stuff. I just know I am an INFJ and Capricorn…where should ai start?
Hi Eve (:
Ah yes, good old MBTI and Astrology stuff. First of all, both "personality typing systems" really differ from each other even though there are at least 12 types in both systems (and I could try to give every zodiac sign one of the MBTI-codes, but that's not for today).
Astrology is based on the placing of the planets above our head. If you ask anyone about their zodiac or starsign, they will probably name their so called "Sun Sign", which in your case is Capricorn (another Cap! I'm a Capricorn Sun too!). This is the sign most likely everyone knows and associates themselves with, however, if you look at planets typing your personality, you shouldn't be just looking at your Sun Sign.
You could look at your full natal chart, which basically tells you how all the planets are placed above your head at the day, place and time you were born, however, looking at your "Big Three" already tells you a lot! Your Big Three consists of your Sun Sign, your Rising Sign (this is the sign that was on the Eastern Horizon when you were born) and your Moon Sign. Quick explanation:
Sun sign = Identity, who you are from the inside
Rising sign = How others see you, who you look like on the outside
Moon sign = How you emotionally react and make decisions
Of course it's not hard science and it's all very debatable, but it's fun to analyse yourself or even others or characters through this little system! This actually makes me see how bad I have to finish my Digimon Astrology posts someday soon.
If you want more information on how it all works regarding Astrology and like you say in your ask wanna know where to begin, please go to these posts of mine about astrology! I've written three introduction posts and you'll find some interesting and handy information and links to other sites in there (:
As for MBTI... I can talk about this for a while to be honest. I love MBTI, but I also hate it at the same time? It's because I often think people look at it from only the MBTI-perspective and not from the perspective it's actually coming from: psychiatrist and psychologist Carl Gustav Jung and his "cognitive functions system".
I actually wrote about his work in my bachelor thesis. I'm more fond of the cognitive functions, though finding out your MBTI through a simple test, is a great way to start. Actually, I think I might write a full post on MBTI and Jung's cognitive functions in the upcoming weeks and I'll make sure to tag you (fyi, I already typed the DigiDestined with this system, though I haven't published it yet).
Anyway, here are two interesting test that are great to start with when you're new to MBTI and Jung.
16personalities test. I think this might be the most well known MBTI test? It has really nice descriptions of the 16 personalities!
Keys2cognition test. Veeeeeeery elaborate questions and you really have to take your time and reflect on yourself, but it's worth it. I actually used this list for my thesis.
Hope this is helpful! Thanks for the ask <3 I'll make sure tag you once I wrote the MBTI/cognitive functions post (:

My capstone course final / senior thesis thingie (it's a bachelor's degree but they called it a senior thesis idk) has officially been turned in and I feel hollow inside 🫠
My subject was GEOINT for space exploration. It's something I'm super passionate about but also final projects are not my strong suit, especially when the professor says "choose your own topic," so I hated almost every minute of the writing process for this thing.
Also my friend helped me run it through an AI checker because my school checks for AI now and I didn’t use any AI but my conclusion paragraph flagged as almost 100% AI because I suck at conclusions
And my other friend said: “So you’re telling me you’re a robot? I had to study a while to pass the Turing test myself.”
and that was the single best part of working of this long-ass paper.
thanks for coming to my TED talk. Don't stay in school kids they make you write a big paper at the end and you feel like you're making this shit up on the fly despite literal years of reading and effort put into learning about it.

I just saw your latest post and i totally feel you. You got a masters degree and you’re a year younger than me that’s so amazing! I barely got my bachelors. you’re not alone with the feeling that you only know academia/ school since I feel the same way. We all believe in you! You’re going to do amazing! Also congratulations!!!!!!
thank you so much!!!! 💖 you're so sweet!!!!
it's just so weird being -done- especially after doing my bachelors and masters back to back, I went into my masters to figure out what I really wanted to do and only ended up more confused lol. It doesn't help that everyone (coworkers, family, my thesis committee) is convinced i'll end up in a doctoral program so it's really giving me ideas like....maybe i could hide away from my issues for a couple more years, if money wasn't such an issue lmaooo. i just don't know what to do with myself without the structure and opening up so much of my schedule

my comment couldn't be posted under my first ask, so i am sending it here instead :((
hehe, that wyatt scenario. me when 🥲🥲🥲; that would be a great full fic
CONGRATS, GIRL!!!!!! That's such great news 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺; I remember you were doing your master's thesis?
buying a book for almost free is like hitting a jackpot xdd. I love these series so much but the first book is def. my favourite one (probably because it was the first book I read from Allende). I recommend you "The Japanese Lover", I think you might like it. Have fun reading 🥺💜💜💜
it's still the same for me but i am trying to make some positive changes this year, so i think i am going to read more books on psychology, philosophy, self-help, medicine, etc. I am also preparing to apply for Master's degree (s) and a second bachelor's degree both in my country and abroad. In short, I want to do better and feel better and this requires lots of work on myself (mindset), and yeah. I would want this year to be all about self-growth, healing, improving my health. Maybe this all inspires me in a way?
Anyway, hope you're having a nice day 🥰😚💜
Who can explain this app?
The type of comfort fic we read in rainy days 🥲
Oh, no. That was not a master thesis. It was just for a specialization course. I don't have a master yet. I don't know whether I will have one, to be very honest. Maybe in the future. I have the license to teach literature since I graduated but I've never worked as a literature teacher before. So I'll be starting for real in February.
Ooh she wrote so many books. This is crazy good! The only thing I knew was thar I should start with her first one. Thanks for recommending me another!! sometimes only a titles is enough to get me interested 🤭
New year is there for changes. I like this time of the year, because it's full of possibilities. I'm happy that you're inspired. A pinch of philosophy can surely change our lives. Unfortunately I don't really have authors to suggest in terms of psychology or philosophy but feel free to tell me what you find out!
Have a sweet evening, I'm sending you a hug 💙

Do you consider listening to audiobooks as reading? I personally don’t because reading a book requires your attention on the pages and the words while with audiobooks, you can listen to them while doing other tasks like driving, walking, painting, cleaning etc. What are your thoughts on this?
oh, i believe listening to audiobooks is reading too! for example, i am commuting by public transport so i can focus all my attention on an audiobook. i get everything out of the experience/language except seeing the words spelled out (instead i get the pronunciation). personally, i also only listen to audiobooks when i have enough capacity to actually follow the story. like, otherwise what would be the point, right? :') i think attention (in the neuropsychological sense) has something to do with the processing depth of language, and reading words on a page definitely makes it more likely that you're paying attention, but if we consider that similar amount of attention is giving to listening to an audiobook they can both be considered "reading", or more precisely language processing.
((little fun fact about me: i wrote my bachelor thesis in neuropsychology on gamma band activity and top-down modulations in higher-order speech comprehension and how they influence intelligibility.)) language processing for written and spoken language basically show the same patterns of brain activity (on a neuronal and functional connectivity level (x, x) and frequency level (x)). there is some evidence that there might be subtle differences in activity, but most of them are not found in language processing but in modality processing (x) (i.e. when you read the visual cortex will show more activation than when you listen to speech // when you're listening to speech the auditory cortex will show more activation that when you read -> different modalities are processed in different areas of the brain but if the signal is recognised as language—written or spoken—higher-order language comprehension happens roughly in the same brain areas) ((this might be a tangent, but we also know that even while reading silently the auditory cortex (and speech motor areas) shows activity (a little less for english than languages that are written more phonetically), so it's actually quite hard to fully exclude the auditory aspects of language processing when talking about reading (x). and if you think about it, that makes sense. i mean how do we learn language? by listening to other people using language, not by reading it. we listen and speak language before we learn to read and write it. so the language processing you acquire and use for any kind of language processing is rooted in spoken language. consequently, the language processing that helps you understand written language is the neuronal language processing system you acquired by listening to spoken language.))
so when you listen to an audiobook and you're able to understand and follow the story you're basically exhibiting the same activity patterns as you would when you're reading the story on a page (with different/unique modality specific activity). there is also evidence that listening to audiobooks helps you develop the same language skills as reading (minus the orthography aspect) but i can't find that paper right now (might add it here later). ofc there can be other factors that might make one or the other more accessible or enjoyable for individuals. depending on e.g. attention and if you can concentrate on written language better than spoken language bc it require more immediate engagement (bc you have to keep your eyes on the page and are basically "forced" to retain your attention on the page -> your thoughts can't drift off as easily). all in all i think you have to decide for yourself whether audiobooks are the same as reading to you. on a neuronal level you can certainly make the case for it (under the right circumstances).

Hello... I hope you're okay. your blogs brought me so much comfort through writing about Saeran. If you don't mind, would you do GE Saeran just telling me that everything would be alright? That whatever decision I make it will eventually pass and I can handle it.
I'm actually in my last year nursing program, I have graduated from bachelor degree but I have to do a profession program for a year and this is my last semester. I'll still have a week shift in the hospital but there's this option where we can choose to be volunteer for COVID-19. We have a second wave in our country... The hospital's overload.
I decided not to do volunteer because I have health reasons, I couldn't even get to be vaccined because of asthma. But another reason is that we also have to do our second thesis in just five weeks, three weeks for having shifts in hospital and only two weeks for writing then we'll have to do a second thesis defence. After that I'll also have a national competition exam in August. That's why I think I can't do the volunteer program at the same time I have to finish my thesis. But seeing how my friends join actually makes me feel down and anguish...
Sometimes I imagine how Saeran would feel like whenever I go to hospital for doing shift in this time of pandemic. Thank you for your time. i hope you're doing alright and safe!
Saeran understands fully well what you do with your time and with your care. It takes a lot of real compassion to put yourself at risk for the safety of others. Words cannot describe how selfless you must be to commit yourself to taking care of other people and wanting the best for them.
It is a job that often goes without saying thanks but the reward is knowing that you were able to help other people who are in need. That's what matters the most. The fact that people are able to get the help that they deserve without any trouble.
He admires that about you. He admires that you're able to take care of other people and put yourself out there. It's really long hours and it can take some time to get used to being away from you for that long. He knows that it's worth it because it's something that makes you happy and it's something that you like doing.
It goes without saying that he wants to make sure that you are truly appreciated for the care that you give. You don't always get to hear that thank you but when you come home, he is the first in making sure that you get to hear that.
It's a very simple gesture. He'll kiss your cheek and sigh happily as you lean into his embrace.
If you were on a really long shift, then the first thing that he would do if you would have a bath drawn for you already. He knows that's what you're going to want to do. You're going to want to detox from a long work day and it's the best way to do it.
He'll do your hair for you and hum along to whatever song is playing in the background.
Unless you want to be alone, in which case he has measures set up for that as well. Studying and work aren't easy. You can count on Saeran to do everything he can to make sure that you feel like you're supposed to.
Like you're on top of the world and you deserve to feel that way.
But, for those days when you feel frustrated and upset that things aren't going your way. He just knows that what you want more than anything is just to be held and told that it's going to be okay.
You don't have to say anything to him, he'll just understand what you need at a base level because that's how your relationship works. The two of you don't even need words to understand what the other is thinking.
"My love, my light... you give your heart and soul to everything that you do. You're always giving it your all and putting yourself out there for everyone. I'm proud of you for everything that you do. I know you're proud of yourself, even if you don't always see it. This hard work is going to pay off. It's worth it. It's your dream, and it's what you've always wanted. So, just take a deep breath and remember that I'm here with you. I'm always cheering you on. I know you can do it."

Okay… not at all fandom or Upstead related (even though I could yell at you for DAYS about all of your fics) but I’m in my 4th year as a psychology major and my goal is to one day work in play therapy with children who require developmental, behavioural, and/or regulation support. I know you’ve said you work as a trauma therapist (your post about the stigma surrounding the idea of people being “broken” was absolutely ✨ICONIC✨) so I’m just wondering if you have an advice or wisdom to share for someone finishing up their bachelors degree and looking to work in the field? I’m in the process of applying for a thesis and looking at master’s programs but G O D 😂🥴 it would be so nice to get some perspective from someone in the field 💕
Oooh this might be one of my favorite asks ever. As much as I love yelling about upstead, I also REALLY love yelling about psych and therapy. For those of you who don't know, I'm a therapist working with young children and teens. I do trauma work, behavioral and mental health therapy, and play therapy (I'm lucky to get to do all those things because I'm so indecisive). It makes me SO HAPPY that you are getting into the field to because we need more wonderful people!
I've got lots of advice and I'm aware not everyone is going to find this post relevant so my long list of advice is under the cut!
If you can go to an open house/ in person interview before choosing your grad school, do. Grad school for therapy is different than a lot of other programs. You're going to be working very closely with your cohort. Almost all programs will have you record your therapy sessions and show them to your peers. You have to feel comfortable with those people. They are going to be critiquing you and helping you grow. I felt very comfortable with the people I met at my interview day and that was a huge factor of why I chose the school I did.
Applying for grad school is just the worst. Your worth is not tied to what schools you get into. Just remember that.
When you're applying for schools, look where they have their students do their internships (but it's totally normal if you have no idea what you're looking for in an internship site!).
Also make sure your school is accredited!!! Especially if you are getting a counseling degree because if your school isn't accredited, it'll bite you in the butt when you try to get a license down the road.
You're gonna feel like everyone has their crap together in grad school. They don't. You're all confused together. It's the beauty of it.
You're also probably going to have a lot of moments where you feel like you have no idea what in the world you are doing. You do. That's a normal experience. Something our professors always told us is that, at the end of it, you can always learn more skills and theories but the way you are with a client, that is what is important.
You're gonna learn a whole lot about yourself in grad school. It's part of the process of becoming a good therapist. Don't run from it.
Your grad school internship is your opportunity to ask a million questions. No one is going to think it's annoying. You're an intern, they don't expect you to have all the answers. Ask everything.
You also don't need to know what type of therapist you are gonna be in grad school. You don't need to have a chosen theoretical orientation when you graduate. You'll figure it out along the way. Trust me.
SELF-CARE. They're gonna shove this down your throat in grad school. They did it with me and honestly, I did not really believe the whole burnout thing they kept selling me. And then I worked as a therapist during 2020 and I got burnout real quick. You're gonna hate your job if you don't do good self-care.
Have good professional boundaries. Don't work at the job that makes you take on a ridiculous client load with little to no support. Don't bring work home with you. Don't do it.
I wish someone told me how hard it was going to be some days. You are going to see hard things and hear hard stories and they're going to get to you. You're human. That's why it's important to have good self care, good boundaries and have good supervision.
I also wish someone told me about the good days. Because damn they're good. Especially when you are working with kids. The way you feel after a good session or after a small victory with a client is indescribable. You're making a difference in someone's life and it's an honor to be doing so. The good moments make it so worth it.
Something you have to deal with when you work with kids in this type of setting is the never ending question of "Why?" I get a lot of strange looks and rude comments. when I tell people what I do. Ignore them. You're meant to do what you're doing and these kids are so worth it. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
I think the biggest piece of advice I can give is be the person who gives a crap. You're gonna mess up your theories and skills and you are going to have bad sessions. The kids don't know that and they don't care. What they do care is that you are showing up for them every week. That you love them unconditionally. That you give a crap. For a lot of the kids you work with, they don't have that in their lives. When I remove all the external pressure and just focus on caring about the kid sitting in front of me, I often see much more change than if I was doing all the fancy techniques.
I probably have thousands of more things I would say. This is a hard field but an amazing one. I am always more than happy to talk about it or share any advice. Feel free to pop into my ask box or DMs any time! I love talking about this stuff! Best of luck to the anon who sent this ask!!
