Did another genre tasting today, this time with early readers! Swipe for some of my recommendations in each category. The kids loved it! Though I had to briefly take away the SpongeBob because kids didn't want to try anything else in Humor once they saw those :) I had to explain, in a tasting, you try new things to see if you like them! What is an unpopular book-related opinion that you have?

oop here goes: hating on booktok books is cringier than liking booktok books.

I don't have tiktok personally, but from tumblr/instagram/youtube anddd just my local bookstore, I have a good idea about what books are popular on booktok. I will admit that just from general reviews and discussions with people I also find myself cringing at books such as It Ends With Us despite never having read the book myself.

However, I see a lot of posts on tumblr talking about hating the booktok community, how reading these books doesn't count as 'reading' and criticizing people for enjoying trope-y books. I can see how these books aren't everyone's cup of tea but at the same time like...how many of us got into reading through books like Twilight and the Fault in Our Stars? Maybe those books aren't considered the epitome of literature either but I think that young people learning to love books is a great thing. Maybe they'll learn to expand their tastes and love other types of books, and maybe they won't and either way I think it's all good.

Eevee-lutions genre battle posters! Some ambitious readers have already read their 3 books in a genre to evolve their Eevees, so this battle bulletin board is going up today! (See my last post for details on what this all is). And i figured out how the battle system will work! Readers will read 3 books in a genre and record the number of pages in each one. The combined number of pages will be their CP. When they finish, I'll put their name on the battle board, and at the end of a month the combined CP (combat power) of all the trainers in the genre will be the CP of their Eevee. The Eevee with the most CP points at the end of the month will win the battle! Students are already getting excited to evolve their eevees, and have picked out books at the genre book tastings that they enjoy. No Longer Human (Dazai Osamu) = espresso on a rainy day made by a smoking barista

The Brothers Karamazov (Fyodor Dostojewski) = Schwarzwälderkirsch(a cake I cannot be bothered to google the english name for) in a small cafe in some alley

Harry Potter = wayy too sweet tasting chocolate and bland cookies on a train ride
