The dark artifices?
the dark artifices: do you often cry when a shocking and sad event takes place in your book?
1000% hahah. I cry at shocking events, I cry at sad events and I cry at super sweet heart touching moments. As long as I'm reading alone I let the tears goooooo

Hiiii, for the ask game: ghosts of the shadow market, the last hours 🌻
oo thanks for the questions!
ghosts of the shadow market: are there any little trinkets or outfits you wear that are influenced by books?
I used to have a lot of Harry Potter merch, which I don't wear so often in anymore. Though while saying that I'm currently in my favourite harry potter pajamas hahah. I also have a really cute bookish necklace though I don't wear it as often as for the past few years I've realized I'm semi allergic to cheap jewelry!
the last hours: what books would you recommend to younger versions of yourself and your friends?
I wished I had read some great series like A Series of Unfortunate Events and Shadow and Bone when I was younger. I do enjoy them now but lots of really good middle-grade and YA books I enjoy now, I find them a bit young, and I know I would have LOVED them if I had picked them up earlier.

tales from the shadowhunter academy: which books (that aren't already read) do you think kids should read at school?
the dark artifices: do you often cry when a shocking and sad event takes place in your book?
ghosts of the shadow market: are there any little trinkets or outfits you wear that are influenced by books?

And I also know that loving someone—even when it’s scary, even when there are consequences—is never the wrong thing to do.

okay the ~ guards ~ in quarantine are all very nice but also not at the same time. both my brothers were told off for wearing shoes. my dad was told off for drinking water outside. a nurse assumed my chinese was bad despite me learning for 8 years and made me really mad. it is good to have grudges in quarantine i think to carry us through.

Maybe who we are isn't so much about what we do, but rather what we're capable of when we least expect it.

My dad is a PE teacher and he’s told me a few times that a lot of girls who enjoy sports don’t continue after high school. I did some digging and there’s a lot of reason why girls not only stop sports after high school, but are discouraged from joining in the first place:
I think most of the reasons boil down to these three:
less opportunities / sports teams
at my school we had to actively ask other students to join our football team because we often didn’t have enough girls. At uni, none of my friends like sports & those who I saw playing are really good. There’s no middle level team.
not as many female role models / coaches
the years I had female coaches were the years that my team and I were pushed. Male coaches were always well intended, but we weren't expected to want to push ourselves and therefore we didn’t.
and the big one LACK OF CONFIDENCE
Without trying to be braggy, but I was pretty good at sports in high school. But there’s this thing called spotlight anxiety and it stems from negative stereotypes or “stereotype threat.” This theory suggests that when there’s a dominant stereotype against a certain group of people such as girls shouldn’t play sport and boys are just better. (I know, I know what an old stereotype but it’s still in action today)
This turns into spotlight anxiety. We all KNOW the stereotypes aren’t true but we still are emotionally affected by them. We either 1) subconsciously believe them or 2) under-perform because we’re stressed to prove the stereotypes right.
This happened a lot to me when my girls football team trained with the boys. By ourselves we would great team workers and put all our effort into the game. But with the boys - they took over. I was worried about making moves because I didn’t want to mess up and embarrass myself. They actively didn’t include us because they thought we were kinda shit.
I know this is a long post but I just wanted to say to you girls out there who are like me and desperately want to get into sports again but finding it difficult after being separated from that world - you got this. And to any girls who never took it up as a kid but are interested now, go for it!!!

Nothing is as you think it is. Lots of things are not what they appear to be. Sometimes people need you to keep searching for them, or at least asking questions on their behalf. And very often, people have been silenced and they need other people to speak for them. It's when you stop searching and asking and speaking that they really will be lost.

Why am I surprised this is on here??? I know this is a completely different community to booklr but please don’t promote that shit guys
