Stille Kollegen

Kernaufgabe des Stadtarchivs ist es, seine Bestände dauerhaft zu Sichern, aber auch der Verwaltung und der interessierten Öffentlichkeit Bereitzustellen. Verbunden mit der Bereitstellung ist oft die Anfertigung einer Reproduktion von Archivalien. Darüberhinaus werden Digitalisate als Maßnahme der Bestandserhaltung sowie zur visuellen Präsentation der Archivalien in der Archivdatenbank erzeugt. Ohne geeignete Geräte wäre das nicht möglich. Hier stelle ich mal unsere “stillen Kollegen” vor. 

Seit 2010 wird der Großteil der Reproduktionen mit einem Auflichtscanner (Bookeye 3) ausgeführt.  Never change a winning team - 2018 wurde aufgrund höchster Zufriedenheit in einer Ersatzbeschaffung das Nachfolgemodell Bookeye 4 beschafft. Scanfläche DIN A1.

Mit der Neubeschaffung wurde der “Scan-Park” um einen Durchzugscanner DIN A0 erweitert. Grund war die Zunahme von ca. 15 %  von Reproduktions-aufträgen von Bauzeichnungen ab 1975 (ausheftbare Pläne DIN A0 Format) aufgrund der Entwicklung des Immobilienmarkts und der Sanierungsbedarfe. Diese Reproduktionen können, wenn es der Erhaltungszustand zulässt, mit diesem Gerät sehr schnell, schonender und in hervorragender Qualität angefertigt werden.

Beide Scanner verwenden die gleiche Software (BCS). An diesem Arbeitsplatz steht Photoshop zur Verfügung. Meist wird es hier genutzt, um z. B. Zeichnungen, die nur noch in Einzelteilen vorliegen, benutzerfreundlich, in einem Dokument zusammenführen zu können oder um stark verblasste Originalvorlagen, die aus urheberrechtlichen Gründen nur analog ausgegeben werden dürfen vor dem Druck zu optimieren.

Viele Jahre schon verwenden wir einen Durchlichtscanner für die Digitalisierung von Negativen, Diapositiven und Glasplatten sowie Positiven. Meist sind hier höhere Auflösungen nötig, die ebenfalls die Verwendung dieses Geräts erfordern (bis 3400dpi). Dieses Gerät ist 2021 erst wieder neu beschafft worden. Dieser Arbeitsplatz ist mit Photoshop ausgestattet, um weitere, gefragte oder nötige Bildbearbeitungen ausführen zu können.

Eine Flachbettscanner wird vorrangig genutzt für die Pressesammlung genutzt. Hier wird der Scan direkt in die Datenbank eingebunden und dort bearbeitet. Mittels OCR (Texterkennung) wird der Inhalt der Presseartikel in die Textfelder der Erfassungsmaske importiert um eine Volltextrecherche zu ermöglichen. Seit Juli 2021 steht den Benutzer:innen ein A2-Scanner Bookeye 5 zur Digitalisierung on-Demand zu Verfügung (Einschränkungen aus bestandserhaltenden oder urheberrechtlichen Gründen möglich), finanziert mit Mitteln aus dem Förderprogramm „WissensWandel. Digitalprogramm für Bibliotheken und Archive innerhalb von Neustart Kultur“. Der Scanner wird auch durch die  Mitarbeiter:innen des Archivs genutzt. Von Oktober bis Dezember 2021 nutzten 196 Nutzer:innen dieses kostenfreie Angebot. Das Feedback ist durchweg positiv.

Mehrere PDFs zusammenfassen ist nicht einfach

Ein nicht näher genannter Mensch in meiner sozialen Umgebung möchte mehrere PDFs zu einem zusammenfassen. Das ist das erste Problem. Das zweite Problem ist, dass einige dieser PDFs noch gar nicht existieren, weil die Bedienung des Scanners … ach … egal.

Der nicht näher genannte Mensch in meiner sozialen Umgebung ist in meiner geografischen Umgebung eher etwas weiter weg.

Wir überlegen also gemeinsam wie wir die Dokumente eingescannt kriegen, denn ich habe gar keinen Scanner und die Dokumente sind sehr weit weg. Man könnte zu mir kommen, wir könnten meine Universitätsbibliothek nutzen, um dort mit dem BookEye die Dokumente zu scannen (ist jetzt immerhin kostenlos).

Da das Ganze aber schneller gehen soll, soll der Scanvorgang dann doch in einem Copyshop in der Stadt des nicht näher genannten Menschen geschehen. Das klappt auch (ich weiß nicht, wie viel Geld es kostet, in einem Copyshop Dokumente als PDFs zu scannen). Die nächste Problematik ist aber, dass der Versand der PDFs an meine E-Mailadresse nicht klappt. Also überlegt der nicht näher genannte Mensch doch zu mir zu kommen, um mir den Datenträger mit den PDFs zu geben.

Ich erinnere mich daran, dass es ja Teamviewer gibt …
