January 2023 - Bluff Knoll - Stirling Mountain Range, Western Australia

As we were driving from Esperance back towards Perth, the mountains of the Stirling Range came into view. As soon as I saw the mountains, I knew I had to climb to the top and when Susanna Tan talked about her experience last time hiking to the top and how long it took, it sealed the deal. I decided I wanted to make a stop and climb one of the highest peaks in Western Australia! It was probably the most spontaneous decision I’ve ever made, and to be honest, I was kind of intimidated especially as we drove closer to the trailhead and saw how much it towered in front of us!

The hike up was no joke - 613 meters (2,012 feet) elevation gain over only about 3 kilometers (1.6 miles) each way so it was pretty much like going up stairs most of the way. We were out and back in just under 2 hours and even spent some time at the top taking in the views. It was a perfect clear day where we could see for miles and got to enjoy our packed sandwiches with a spectacular view of the range and surrounding area!

On the way down, we trail ran most of the way and actually caught up to and passed everyone coming down as we were going up except for one group so we were really moving lol. Initially I was very cautious since it was a bit scary to be honest. One wrong move and I’d be tumbling down the side of the mountain! But I somehow gained some confidence and went faster and faster as we went further down which was quite thrilling!

Bluff Knoll, one of the highest mountains in Western Australia, which is predominantly flat. The day before this photo I climbed this mountain, but sadly there was not a single cloud in sight. Made a great view, but clouds do certainly make sunrises more spectacular 🙂 When I came back the next day just to the foot of the mountain, it was beautifully covered in clouds. The Stirling Ranges used to be very green, overgrown with lush bushland, but sadly a bushfire burned down more than a third of the park in the last days of 2019. The Ranges are slowly recovering, but it will take very long time to fully recover. It is definitely a beautiful hike and can recommend it if you are in the area! One if the best ways is to stay at the Stirling Range Retreat camping and then go early in the morning before sunrise. Who likes to climb mountains? Conquering Mount Toolbrunup in the Stirling Range National Park. From the summit you can see over the Bluff Knoll, the highest point in Western Australia. Although Toolbrunup isn’t the highest in the state, it is arguably the most difficult climb in the Stirling Range National Park with alot of rock scrambling and vertical rockwall climbing! Buuuuut we made it and the views from the top were so worth the climb. One of our favourite places in Aus! June 2017

<珀斯，露營><袋鼠肉篇> 這裡的天空美就不在話下了，藍得猶如宮崎駿的動畫，風起雲湧邂逅幾段佳話，沿途穿梭，車廂裹響起的音樂，像極穿州過省的情節，我在想，這一路上會蹦出哪些珍奇異獸嗎？聽朋友說，馬路常常會蹦出些袋鼠，遊客或會覺得稀奇，但對於本地人未見得是趣事，因為袋鼠突然蹦出來很容易釀成意外，這也的確發生過，但驟眼看來，這荒野山地，甚麼鳥動物也沒看見，除了鳥。另外，老闆娘說，在澳洲很多地方都會吃袋鼠肉，沒有聽錯，澳洲人會吃自己的國寶，而且是合法的，這早有一段時間了，打從心底覺得自己孤陋寡聞，立即想到我們家的熊寶寶，替牠們捏了把冷汗，澳洲政府之所以頒發捕殺令，原來是出於袋鼠的數量日與俱增，不但造成生態失衡，甚至影響了居民的日常生活，雖然理由很明顯，不過吃袋鼠肉的人是甚麼心情呢？畢竟這隻是澳洲國徽上的象徵，我想很多人和我一樣，提到澳洲第一時間便想到袋鼠，幾乎都是Mr.Australia的地位了，更好奇餐廳廚師怎麼介紹這道菜，還記得那隻跟你一齊在草原上奔跑的小伙伴嗎？牠已經在盤子上等你了。想太多了，還是睡一睡，4個小時很快就過了。 #aplushu #阿帕樹 #文字 #workingholiday #perth #australia #bluffknoll #faith #love #tbt #my #work #blue #motivation #healthy #hot #funny #night #party #photo #sunset #pretty #travel #sky #happy
