After digging through various builder magazines, we came up with a small list of design trends in the bathroom that have fizzled out, mainly because people realized they simply do not work in the real world. They look great in a magazine or in a movie, but real-life debunks them pretty quickly. 🏠

The importance of hiring the right person, someone who cares and someone who has knowledge. In pic one you can see the mold growing, is in on the surface of the drywall, behind the drywall, on the wood and all over the baseboard. These windows have recently been replaced and you can tell there was a previous leak. The second pic is a video of the foam they stuffed in as insulation and it is full of water. Pic 3 shows that the sheathing has rotted out and you can see the back of the brick. Pic 4 shows the other issue we have is an interior vapor barrier all around on the exterior walls, while this is fine in a northern climate it is causing issues in this climate with condensation happening in out walls. Unfortunately after opening walls we have mold from condensation in a few areas. Add to that a leak and that only makes this issue much worse because our walls are having difficulty drying out and have no water control layer in this area. Pic 5-7 show the rim board rotting out. At first when sticking a knife into it, the board felt solid but then it flexed. Once we pushed through that it fell apart from the rot and turned into mulch pieces quickly. When we pulled the knife out the blade was still wet. All of this occurred after a week of no rain so this problem lingers and has trouble drying and by that cycle it keeps rewetting and never has the opportunity to fully dry. Whoever "repaired" the leaking windows previously didn't address the issue which let the window keep leaking.
