Actor and musician Brinsley Forde MBE was born 16th October 1953 in Islington, North London.
He achieved early success in the children’s TV series Here Come the Double Deckers (1970-71), which was co-produced by 20th Century Fox and screened on BBC1 and ABC America.
Having appeared in two episodes of the hit London Weekend Television sitcom, Please Sir, he had a significant and memorable role in the 1971 movie adaptation as Wesley, with his character a critical part of the storyline. Having been accidentally left behind by the coach on the way to the school camp, he hitches a ride with Penny (Jill Kerman), convincing her that the benign and totally sincere teacher, Mr Hedges (John Alderton), is in fact a racist slumlord, leading to a number of comic encounters and confrontations.

(Given the standards of the time in UK television comedy, the writers, John Esmonde and Bob Larbey, and LWT, seemed to have a generally enlightened attitude in terms of race. LWT had been previously stung by the debacle of Curry and Chips (written by Johnny Speight) which had attracted the attention of the Independent Broadcasting Authority and Race Relations Board in 1969. As a result, both Brinsley Forde and fellow student Aziz Resham (Feisal) were able to shine in their own right and even poke fun at some overcompensating liberal attitudes, to their own advantage.)

Brinsley Forde went on to numerous other acting roles. He is a Grammy nominated musician, and founding member of the legendary reggae band, Aswad, which in amongst numerous international hits, had a UK number one in 1988 with Don’t Turn Around.

RIVERS OF LONDON SERIES by Ben Aaronovitch
~~ FANCAST ~~
Peter Grant | The Starling
"
Peter Grant is the protagonist of the Rivers of London series. He is a mixed race detective constable with the London Metropolitan Police as well as an apprentice wizard. He is 25 years old at the start of series, and approximately 28 year old in False Value.
"
Peter is described as having a white father (Richard 'Lord' Grant) and black mother (Rose Grant) from Sierra Leone. Peter has a very positive albeit slightly wry outlook on life. He is curious and innovative, but very easily distracted, sometimes by magical vestigia, more frequently by beautiful women. Though his decisions may be occasionally rash, they are always well-intended and he has an earnest desire to protect innocents. He has been described as a "cheeky bugger".
SUGGESTED CASTING:
DAMSON IDRIS ( 31 years old ) JOHN BOYEGA ( 31 years old ) TOHEEB JIMOH ( 26 years old ) JAY LYCURGO ( 25 years old ) TOSIN COLE ( 31 years old ) KEDAR WILLIAMS-STERLING ( 28 years old )

Remembering two pioneering black British actors, who passed away within days of each other in 2020.
Earl Cameron (left) was born in Bermuda in 1917. A merchant mariner, he began acting on stage during World War Two and made his film debut in 1951, in Pool of London, which was possibly the first British film to show a mixed-race romance. He created a significant body of work in television, and was reportedly the oldest surviving cast member of Doctor Who. He was awarded the CBE in 2009. The Guardian described Earl Cameron as Britain’s first black film star. In a 2017 interview, he said; “I never saw myself as a pioneer. It was only later, looking back, that it occurred to me that I was.” He passed away on July 3rd, 2020, aged 102. Louis Mahoney (right) enjoyed a long and varied career, appearing in movies Cry Freedom and Captain Phillips, and TV shows including Fawlty Towers, Yes Prime Minister and Doctor Who. He was born in 1938 in Gambia and initially trained as a doctor before turning to acting . He was one of the first black actors in the Royal Shakespeare Company in the 1960s and helped to establish Performers Against Racism in the 1980s, to campaign against apartheid in South Africa. He was a tireless campaigner for racial equality in his own profession, as a member of the Equity Afro-Asian Committee and as co-creator of the Black Theatre Workshop. London’s Royal Court Theatre remembered him as “a brilliant actor and the most wonderful human being; a devoted activist and extraordinary performer”. He passed away on June 28th, 2020, aged 81.
