Can u do a Percy Jackson x reader where he’s like trying to impress her by doing something and reader is just like “yeah ok pretty boy keep talkin”

babe idk but this reminds me of that one scene from ATLA where Aang is doing the rock spinny thing in his hands and NOBODY’S impressed. They’re like yeah airbender air bending wow so cool

Percy feels like a magician being pulling out of a rabbits mouth by a hat. He impresses everyone else at camp, everyone, but not you. This is just wrong. He’s cool? He’s a child of the Big Three? He’s cool?

Okay fine, he thinks, I’ll just summon a mini hurricane.

And now half of the dryads at camp are pissed at him for messing up their hair and the lake is in semi-disarray.

You’re standing at the beach, sneakers kissing the water as you watch him attempt to juggle balls of seaweed and fail miserably. He’s got that cute charming smile on his face as usual and he totally thinks you’re into him until you shake your head and turn around.

He speeds towards you on his personal storm of H2O, plants and confusion.

“Y/n!”

“Percy.” You turn back towards him and shove a lock of hair out of you face.

Now, he doesn’t know what to say. He’s exhausted his vocabulary already. You save him the trouble.

“Need something?”

“What’s your issue?” Wow, great going Percy. Really awesome of you to start that way.

“I’m kind of hungry but otherwise, I don’t have any.”

“Well then why are you… why are you so-”

“So unimpressed with your circus act? Because, Percy, I don’t care.”

His heart dropped. His hurricane slowed and quieted down. He wanted to say he didn’t care either but you continued.

“I don’t care about seaweed juggling or completely-water squirt guns or manatee love triangles,” He was going to say that it was actually a love square but you cut him off, again. You were pretty good at that. “That’s superficial. And it’s not you. You, Perce, are more than water tricks and badly timed jokes. I’m not impressed with those things because I don’t care to know what makes other people laugh, I care to know what makes you happy.”

Percy’s heart regained its footing and found itself in his chest again, a little bit higher now but maybe that was from his puffed-out chest. At some point in your speech, you hands had landed on his cheeks. You pulled him out of the water and the hurricane died instantly, washing away without a trace.

He stood next to you on the beach, speechless.

You nudged his mouth close with an index finger on his chin. “You don’t have to say anything witty. I’m just happy you heard me.”

You almost closed his mouth another time as it hung open before it started speaking. “Yeah, me too.”

There was a pause, his hand found your nape.

“I like you.” He confessed.

“I know,” You agreed, “I like you too.”

He kissed you softly, you tasted like marshmallows and juice.

“So I guess this means I can tell the sea lions we don’t need to hear their cover of ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’?”

You laughed and it made his eyes crinkle. Maybe he couldn’t impress you, but at least he could make you smile.

Thinking of you! Hope you can stay up a little bit longer. Wrote something to help:

“Harry!” Draco snapped. Harry blearily opened his eyes.

“What?”

“The healers say you can’t go to sleep for another hour while the spell on your concussion finishes working.”

“Mmm,” agrees Harry tiredly, letting his eyes close again.

“No, no!” Draco sounds a bit panicked. Harry tries to sit up. He doesn’t like when Draco is scared. Draco shouldn’t have to be scared about anything - not anymore. They’d both been scared enough for lifetimes.

“Tell me a story,” Harry tried.

“So you can fall asleep in the middle of it? Not likely. You tell me a story.”

“Once upon a time…” Harry started, then laughed. Draco wasn’t Teddy and already knew all his Marauders stories. “I don’t know. I can’t think that clearly.”

Draco peered at Harry anxiously. “The healer said you might be a bit confused while the damage finished healing. But I can call her back…”

Harry reached up to that little wrinkle where Draco’s brown was furrowed. Maybe if he pressed there, Draco’s face would smooth out and the worry would go away. Draco caught his hand and held it for a minute. That felt nice. Nice enough for Harry to let his eyes start to shut again.

“Hey! No, sit up. Drink some water. For Slytherin’s sake, Harry! Stay awake or I’m calling Pansy and Ginevra to come badger you for the next hour!”

Harry obediently sipped his water. “What if we took a trip?”

“Took a trip? Tonight?” The worried look was back and Draco stood - to go get someone to poke at Harry’s brain again, Harry realized.

“Not tonight! Like, just in the future. I’ve never gotten to travel much. Where should we go?”

Draco’s shoulders inched down a bit as he turned and came back to sit near Harry’s bed. “Well, where would you want to go?”

“Is Paris nice?” Harry asked.

“It’s fine, but the tourist parts are extremely overrated. No, if you want to see an old European city we should go to Prague. See the astronomical clock, the old town square.”

Harry smiled tiredly as slid further down in the bed. He pushed himself up again, trying to stay awake for Draco, so Draco wouldn’t worry.

Draco saw him struggle with his pillow, and reached over to fluff it before Harry had even thought of it. He fussed with the blankets too for a moment, pulling them sweetly around Harry. Harry’s heart swelled at the affection, the little boy in the cupboard still hardly believing he was so loved.

“Where else? Where else should we go?”

“In Europe? Well, I’ve always wanted to see the Northern Lights in Norway.”

“That’d be cool,” Harry agreed. “What about America? Have you ever been there?”

“Mother took me to New York City the summer of fourth year. Right before the Quidditch Cup. I think she sensed that things were taking a turn for the worse and she wanted to have some nice memories together before that.” Draco was frowning again. Harry didn’t like it when Draco frowned.

“I want to see the Grand Canyon.”

Draco raised an eyebrow. “Great big hole in the ground somewhere in the west?”

Harry snorted. “I think it’s like…Utah maybe? Or New Mexico. That sounds right. I don’t know, all the states blend together when I’m not concussed. But yeah, it’s supposed to be really beautiful. We could rent a car and do several of their national parks. There’s the one with the big geyser too. That’s supposed to be cool. And the one with the alligators -“ Harry paused to yawn. “It would be cool to see an alligator.”

“If you can stay awake for another 30 minutes, I will take you to see all the alligators your heart desires. Tell me, what makes an alligator so intriguing to you.”

Harry chatted with Draco about alligators, then manatees, and then to moose until the healer came to check on him again. He hardly noticed, so excited to plan his trip with Draco, until Draco let out a huge yawn.

Finally declared well enough to sleep, they both fell into the fitful sleep of a hospital. But Harry knew that they’d keep planning tomorrow.

"Bob's Burgers" Season 3 Episode Ranking Rewatch (long post)

So, I've been rewatching "Bob's Burgers" from the beginning and ranking the episodes using the spreadsheet that @babsvibes created! If you want to know why I'm doing this or how I view the 1-5 rating scale, you can check out my Season 1 post!

Now on to Season 3:

Ranking breakdown: 12 5s; 9 4s; 2 3s

Season as a whole thoughts:

Season 3 is a goddamn delight! My season 2 as a whole review was positive and Season 3 just builds on everything I enjoyed in season 2. More wonderful recurring characters are added to the mix- Mr. Branca, Mr. Ambrose, Courtney, Henry, and a certain Regular Sized boy I relate to way too much- among others! The world of the show expanded with our first visit to Kingshead Island. And the show continued to grow creatively- hitting new highs in music with "Lindapendent Woman" and "Topsy". Plus, we finally got a full length season meaning we get our very first holiday episodes, including my all-time favorite Christmas episode! I also feel like the show had mostly conquered the tone/characterization issues that popped up in the first two seasons. Bob's occasionally still a bit more of a dick than in later seasons, but he gets called on it now ("The Unnatural")!

In my season 1 review I mentioned watching that season as it aired and thinking it had potential. In my season 2 post, I mentioned that at that point it had gotten good enough that I would've been upset at the time if it was cancelled. By season 3, it had become one of my favorite shows- one that I would encourage friends and family to check out. If people weren't watching the comic glory of "O.T." and "Topsy" they were missing out big time!

Some thoughts on particular episodes:

(Since these seasons are longer I will be writing about a smaller percentage of the episodes- feel free to let me know if you want my thoughts on an episode I don't discuss)

"Bob Fires the Kids": One of my favorite things about this rewatch is discovering what I think of as the "sleeper hits"- episodes I remember being fine but, upon rewatch, turn out to be even better than I remember. This episode was the sleeper hit for Season 3. The kids are exceptionally hilarious in this one- especially being upset about Bob firing them and their attempts at summer fun before they work on the farm. And everything Mickey does is hilarious- the calypso song he sings, his description of "Big", not knowing how to put his hands up, pretty much all his dialogue with Bob ("B.B. King has that disease" "shut up, Mickey"- that exchange always makes me laugh.) Also, "I knew you so briefly, you dead soap dog" is an all-time great eulogy title.

"Mutiny on the Windbreaker"- Probably one the show's zaniest episodes and I love it! Gene falling in love with a a manatee puppet, Louise getting the manicurist to make her claws, all the Bob and Duval interaction- it never fails to make me laugh!

"The Deepening"- "Our toaster is confused, too. It doesn't know why we put bagels in it." This episode could get a 5 for that line alone. Also, I love Mort's standup comedy attempts in here, and the Bob, Teddy, and Mort vs. the shark finale. I wish they revisited the idea of Bob as Block Captain and Hugo as Quadrant Captain in future episodes- stupid neighborhood power struggles make great comedy, and it could've been a great way to get Hugo in the show without threatening to shut down the restaurant.

"Tinarannosaurus Wrecks"- One of this season's two 3s; in an ask game I once said this was my least favorite episode of the show. I empathize with Tina waaaaaaay too much in it to find it particularly entertaining. The first time my mom tried to teach me to drive in an empty parking lot, I basically had a panic attack. I didn't hit anybody's car, but my mom gave up on teaching me and my dad was out of the picture, so I ended up not learning to drive until I was in my 20s. It's hard not to think of that when watching this episode. That said, Tina's Hell fantasy is funny, I enjoy the Mort as the Belchers' chauffeur subplot, and Bob Odenkirk is always good. But it's still my least favorite episode of this season.

"God Rest Ye Merry Gentle-Mannequins"- My favorite Christmas episode! "Mannequin comes to life" is one of those tropes/plots that always amuses me for some reason, and this episode has some hilarious fun with it. "He said he's not a murder mannequin" is an all-time classic line in my book. Also, the ending with Chet saying he has a loft in Manhattan and Bob's "What?!" is one of the best last lines of an episode. Always leaves me with a laugh.

"Broadcast Wagstaff School News"- If I do a top 25 episodes list at the end of this rewatch, this episode will almost certainly be on it. Both the main plot and the Gene-as-little-Bob subplot are hilarious! "Back to you, Andy!" "Back to you, Ollie!" is the ultimate Pesto Twins moment to me. We get some character development for Zeke (his family moves around a lot), Mr. Branca makes his debut, Tammy and Jocelyn team up for the first time- this is pretty significant episode in the development of the support players at Wagstaff- in addition to just being really freaking funny.

"O.T.: The Outside Toilet"- A hilarious episode with a great "Belcher kids and their friends have an adventure" bit (I live for those), and an emotionally resonant plot for Gene. And drunk Linda repeatedly changing her terms for taxi ("snacky", "snatchy") always cracks me up! One time, I was creating a dating profile on Bumble and I had recently rewatched this episode on Cartoon Netowrk, and in the "About Me" section of the profile I wrote "I will never get tired of that episode of Bob's Burgers where Jon Hamm plays a talking toilet". I'm still single (but that profile did actually lead to me meeting one of the more interesting people I've met through a dating app, so...)

"Topsy"- Pretty much generally acknowledged as a classic, so I'll just specifically mention how much I love Teddy in this one. The whole backstory he comes up for "Dr. Glen Wellness" and the line "What's it like out there? Are people still the same, with their funny ways?" is sooooooo good. Like, I need to think of an occasion to say that in real life.

"It Snakes A Village"- Meh. If you want me to care about a story, don't make it about Gloria and Al. Especially don't make it about their sex life.

"The Kids Run the Restaurant"- I don't watch this one a ton because I can kind of empathize with Bob's squeamishness re: blood, but it is pretty hilarious. I especially loved Gene's idea of reformatting the restaurant to serving chicken. This week, I managed to turn his line "Chicken on a treadmill, last offer" into a running joke with a coworker whose never seen the show, so that was fun.

"Boyz 4 Now"- One of the strongest candidates for the title of my favorite "Bob's Burgers" episode. After rewatching it, I really think it might be the episode I would use if I only had one episode to try to convince someone to watch the show. It's unfailingly hilarious yet also has a relatable emotional core. I'm a 42 year old man, and I still feel like Louise every time I have a crush. Louise and Tina stories and "Louise in denial of her feelings" stories are two of my favorite types of stories and this is both. Plus, the tablescaping subplot really shows the Belchers at their best- all getting really enthusiastic about something pretty weird that one of them is doing! Also, Boyz 4 Now and their songs are hilarious and a perfect parody of pop music. My ranking scale for this project only goes up to 5, but in reality this an A++++, 15 out of 10, no notes.

"Carpe Museum"- Another all-time classic. Putting aside it introducing my favorite recurring character for the moment it also has: some of the show's definitive Bob-Louise bonding moments; the introduction of Henry Haber; Linda joining a picket line and coming up with obscene chants; Frond and the museum lady flirting; Teddy's speech encouraging Linda to go to the museum...so much good stuff! But yeah, there's also the introduction of Regular Sized Rudy, the most "me as a kid" character in TV history. Oh, and that last scene with Bob, Louise, and Rudy cuddling on the school bus? Basically the cutest thing ever in my book. If I ever seem a bit too excited to talk about Roudise on here, please keep in mind that I've basically been shipping them since May 5, 2013, with relatively few people to talk about it with until I joined this silly website last year.

Random Thoughts (stuff that doesn't affect the ratings):

-It is so nice for the show to have the normal version of the theme song and opening credits! Yes, the changes are small, but they matter to me. The opening music and credits in the first two seasons are just not as fun and lively as the version from three onward- and it makes the show as a whole feel a bit more fun now.

-Gene in "Broadcast Wagstaff School News": "Quick! Comb me over! Trump me!" It's so weird when pre-2016 TV shows make jokes about that guy in the genre of "businessman"/TV personality with bad hair knowing now that he is a wannabe fascist dictator.

-"Things that are different in their first appearance" department: Regular Sized Rudy's voice is noticeably different in "Carpe Museum" (it was funny to hear that interview where Brian Huskey said he was told "do what you did at the table read" and didn't really remember what he did at the table read). Also, Mr. Branca's pants are a different color in his first appearance than they normally are- I'm assuming that his normal pants were damaged in an unfortunate incident with his work crowbar.

Well, much like the Deuce of Diamonds and Toad the Wet Sprocket, I gave you my magic and now I am going to disappear. (Not really, I'm just ending this post. I'll still be here. I just couldn't resist making another reference to that line)

How dare you create a precious Floyd x Janice love child and not tell us anything about them

I MUST KNOW MORE ABOUT YOUR BOY, CALEB

I really wanted to draw some responses to this but since I've got a feeling I'm gonna be busy in these weeks running up to Christmas and new year you'll just have to have some facts. However I can offer this doodle of baby Caleb and Animal, for some reason this didn't upload in the first post I made with him?

-He's literally vine energy, so many vines fit him so well (Kid Caleb: "Lookat all does chickens!" // Older Caleb "Road work ahead? Uh, yeah, I sure hope it does"). I can go on but I don't wanna fill this with too many vine quotes, I've been wanting to draw a little comic of kid Caleb and Floyd to one vine but that'll likely have to be a newyear thing I work on

-Gas station sushi is his life and blood

-As a child he tried to eat things he wasn't supposed to, a lot. Dirt, flowers, coins, guitar plectrums, rocks, bracelet beads. Floyd more often than not spent his time trying to pry something nonedible out of Caleb's hands when he was little

-No thoughts, head empty, only vibes

-He will and has followed a snail around the theatre for three hours

-Haircutt?? Hairdressers?? No thanks. He's terrified of hair dressers

-He was a bit of a crybaby as a kid

-He likes to collet shiny rocks/crystals and give them to people he likes

-All of his good genes went to his looks and his singing voice Caleb has a total of three braincells, those braincells being the ones that successfully ate dirt when he was a kid

-He can sleep standing up

-Is a natural on the bass and the drums (Animal was excited to show him how to play them) but naturally he leans more towards the guitar

-As well as playing the bass Caleb can also play a ukulele, harmonica and acoustic guitar

-He likes kids, finds them easy going but they can stress him out sometimes

-Talk to him about literally anything and he'll just sit there, you could talk about rock formations, and he'll sit there nodding and humming. He will not understand a word you're saying but he'll listen

-I made a doodle about this in the post I made with Caleb's design but when he was a baby he was terrified of the rest of the band, except for Animal. It took him a while to warm up to them, but he loves them now, the band probably tease him about it sometimes, but they never mean any ill will

-Mama's boy and isn't ashamed about it, it took him ages to call Floyd pa, and when he did call him Pa it was probably right in the morning when the band got up and Floyd didn't even realise until minutes later

-I don't know if I'll make this cannon or not but I've been entertaining the idea of Caleb having some form of stage fright. He's totally fine preforming with his parents and the band and even to some of the other muppets, but to a live audience and infront of a camera?? This might sound silly but I've had the idea that Caleb first goes on stage to preform alongside his folks when he's 13 - Floyd and Janice where super excited as was the rest of the band, Caleb got many pats on the back cuz he was "offically part of the band!". While the band are waiting to go on stage Caleb peaks a glance at the audience through the curtains and he realises just how big the audience is, how many eyes are going to be on him, how - if he messes up - the WHOLE world is going to see on their TV's. Then right as Bobo gives the band the go ahead to go on stage Floyd turns around to Caleb to ask if he's ready to rock, only to see that Caleb is gone - leading to the band having to quickly improvise on stage cuz Caleb isn't there to play or sing his parts. Again this is all a loose maybe idea

-His favourite animals are snails, but he also likes sloths, manatees, penguins and cats

-Sunflowers are his favourite flowers

-He likes it when people braid his hair, he finds it therapeutic

-Out of the band he probably vibes with Pepe and Rizzo the most

-Totally chill with having his nails painted he's down for a spa day

Hellcheer Xmas Advent Calendar - Day 7: Exchanging gifts

Sometimes, small gifts are the most meaningful. @hellcheerxmas

“You remembered…” Chrissy said through misty eyes.

Eddie had been a vision at the toy store, all leather and chains among the sea of bunnies, teddy bears, and dollies. The poor 16-year-old cashier nearly got whiplash when Eddie came up to pay and asked if they had a really big bow to wrap his gift with, looking down at the stuffed manatee and the tattooed boy in front of her half a dozen times before she managed to ring the item up.

“‘Course I did.”

While all the other kids had done the usual baking soda and vinegar volcanoes, 11-year-old Chrissy had chosen manatees for her science project, and Eddie had fallen in love with her right then and there. This little pigtailed princess going against all expectations to talk about an obscure sea creature? How could he not become absolutely smitten from the start?

“Okay, my turn.”

Chrissy handed him a small handmade clay figurine of a princess with golden hair and a pink dress.

“Is this a D&D miniature?” Eddie asked, incredulous. “Chris, did you make this yourself?”

“Yeah. I just figured she could, like, keep you company since cheer practice always runs late on Hellfire nights.” She said, uncertainly. “I don’t know, it’s silly, I just thought--”

Chrissy never finished her sentence, her breath taken away by the bruising kiss Eddie planted on her lips.

Hi, do you have any headcanons about what and how the tribes keep pets?? Sorry if this is trandom or if you’re already answered this before. Like, I imagine that SeaWongs would keep fish of course lol as pets

Okay so here are my hcs

Seawings: Dolphins, Sharks, Belugas and stuff like that as pets! Manatees are a Seawing favorite pet, since they are so chill, they are kinda big pets but everyone loves them and they are sweet like big dogs. Also on a small note, they like tiger sharks and they are kinda like small dogs. However there is a lot of controversy in the Sea Kingdom about whether eating these animals is ethical, and some Seawings keep fish however those are eaten very often so many Seawings only keep them in the same way we do.

Sandwings: I feel like they would keep Camels as pets and not much else, some Sandwings would train vultures however Sandwing culture much more relies on surviving… so uh sometimes their camels and vultures are stolen and eaten by other Sandwings. ( I imagine this because the past few Sandwing queens have been pretty ruthless so it kinda changed the mood and access to resources in the kingdom. But there are eras where Sandwings prosper as well just like all other tribes. The worst offender of the bad chain of Queens are the Skywings and Icewings. )

Mudwings: Mudwings never eat crocodiles or alligators so some of them keep them as pets! Some also keep wild hogs or traditional farm animals but they are usually raised to be eaten. Not much else is kept as a pet but if Mudwings had Monkeys or other animals in their territory they would keep them. Mudwings seeing a Manatee and wanting to cuddle with it but also eat it.

Skywings: They don’t keep pets lol, maybe a few mountain goats but most Skywings would be like “why keep pets? When you can eat it?”

Icewings: SEALS!!! Icewings sentenced to the 7th circle out on the icebergs will keep seals as pets, some even keep polar bears. Royalty sometimes will keep Polar bears on leashes and things like that but typically most other Icewings would just eat most animals.

Rainwings: Ofc they keep Monkeys and Sloths as pets, and honestly they would keep most animals they come across as pets if they could. Most Rainwings are vegetarians but let’s say in the past a couple of wars have started because a Sandwing ate the Rainwing queen’s sloth.

Nightwings: They don’t really keep pets, although if those 5 foot bats that live in the Philippines lived near the Nightwings they would keep them as pets 100%. Most animals though? They typically eat them or keep them to study them.

Silkwings: THEY LOVE PETS BUT THERE AREN’T ANY GOOD ONES IN THEIR TERRITORY- They sometimes will buy Sloths from Rainwings to keep as pets or they will find friendly big cats or deer as pets since they are also vegetarian.

freaky ass dream where uh. cw for some weird body horror. I was minecraft digging (but real first person) and found a pocket of cave I staired down into. It was a small square dim room with pillars in it and there was a skeleton (?) dude who was friendly but terrified out of his wits and I was like What man what’s wrong and let him up the stairs. And then I saw what looked like the silhouette of a tall woman (?) standing very still behind one of the pillars so that her face was hidden but you could see her sides and the fact she was holding something behind her back and clearly angled towards me and I was like oh okay hell no let’s go skeleton man.

we get up to the surface and i quickly seal off the cave and for some reason the skeleton dude turned into like. a big manatee above ground who was sort of cute but anyway he was like thanks for getting me out of there and I was like sure. and he helped me sift through my wagons of dirt haul I suppose in return and we find human bones and stuff with stuff like prints carved in em and I’m like huh what’s all this doing down in the mine. and the notskeletonmanatee guy was like oh there used to be people who lived here before this town and they carved meaningful stuff on the bones of their dead. And I was like huh what’s it all doing in some old mineshaft then. And he was like I dunno but I remember what some of these mean and he talked to me about a few of them while we sorted and cleaned them out from the rubble and put them aside to bury somewhere and then I found one with just like, some weird totally manmade thing carved on it? A bullet or something? And was like ?? and the manateeman was like oh that’s from the bat boy. And he told me about how the current townspeople had stole some kid and uh modified him into a circus attraction that looked like a half bat and I was like that’s fucking grim man and put it aside. Anyway people came and started gawking at my manatee buddy and he looked sort of dejected so I was like come on let’s go and we went to the library who let a manatee in for some reason. And I started looking through old encyclopedias and news reports about the stolen boy and found a description of him with an illustration and apparently they’d done a really poor job of stitching him back together and also connected the “wings” they put on him to some of his internal organs to keep them in place and they’d kept protruding whenever he moved his arms..? and dream me was like how did this kid even survive long enough to be paraded around. the manatee guy was like yeah it was sad stuff. and then I woke up

Hii I love your game and I want to know more about the main boys!! What is one fun fact about each guy that is *not* mentioned in the game?

OOOOH THIS IS A FUN ONE! I have a very old document where I wrote a bunch of random fun facts created in...March 2016. Terrifying! Looking at it, it's pretty outdated because some facts are no longer accurate (it looks like Cadence's favorite animal used to be a manatee but she switched over to skrunkly foxes and raccoons).

Here is a fun fact for each guy though! :) ...and maybe some extra. Tom: He's an ENFP. Peter: As an early graduation present, his dad passed down his car to Peter. He's very protective of his car--only Tom and Samuel are allowed ride homes, but Tom's not allowed to bring food in it. Peter leaves Alex at the school when he can (at risk of his mom chewing him out). Clark: He plays with his eyebrows--as in his eyebrows are very expressive while playing clarinet. Sometimes he gets so into the music he sways. (psh, so pretentious) Samuel: He enjoys horror movies because he finds them corny and amusing. Poptart: His spirit animal is the albino kangaroo?? I'm screaming, it's the only fact on his list that is not brought up in the story. I feel like it's debatable.

Doug: Omg I'm crying. When he was little, Doug wanted to be the Kool-Aid man when he grew up. Smashing through walls, screaming "OH YEAH" and drinking fruit punch sounded like his dream job. Garth: He has younger sister, Rachel, who is in middle school. She looks up to her brother and wants to join color guard someday too!

Mr. Wiley: Bandit the raccoon is one of the most important people in his life...even if she's not people. Susie: Her family owns a big fluffy Newfoundland dog named Benji! Felicity: She used to be in the drama club. (Pff, some might say she still is) Alex: He would never admit this, but he really looks up to Peter. Olive: Has a peanut allergy...I sure hope we didn't accidentally make her eat peanuts in the game...ok no I think we're good. Aaron: He has faced some struggles with OCD in the past, but drumming has really helped him manage it.

Leon: LEON FOILED A GAS STATION ROBBERY THEN COLLAPSED AND HAD A MILD PANIC ATTACK RIGHT AFTER--ok that needs to be in the game.

Jackal- Leopard seal. devious and vicious.

Jay- Blue tang. Just, bluest fish i could think of lol

Fox- manatee. soft. sweet. gentle

Crow- He'd be a common octopus. clever but has to hide with shells.

Hound- tiger shark. very good hunter.

vulture- great white, obviously

Hyena- Lion Fish. Voracious and dangerous.

Robin- Dolphin. Asshole.

Dingo- Sea snake, venomous and feared

Pokémon of the Week!

#87: Dewgong!

Welcome, nerds, to Pokémon of the Week!

Where I, Sesh, generate a random Pokémon to highlight each week!

Last week, we highlighted the Hisuian variant of our slimy dragon friend, Goodra. If you wanna see that one, you can find it below:

This week, we are highlighting an OG water pupper with a warm heart of gold, Dewgong! It's a crying shame Dewgong and it's pre-evolved form Seel aren't in the latest Sword & Shield and Legends: Arceus games. But as it is one of the original 151 Pokémon, there is a good deal to cover and discuss!

~ORIGINS~

Dewgong debuted in Generation 1 as one of the original 151 Pokémon in Pokemon: Red & Blue for the GameBoy Color. It has since appeared as an obtainable Pokémon in every mainline entry except Sword & Shield and Legends: Arceus.

Dewgong is dual-typed at Water and Ice (a good combination, though it allows Fire attacks to have normal effect against it).

Dewgong last appeared in the anime as a Pokémon belonging to newer main character, Goh. Evidently, it's got a simping problem for female water-types.

There's some debate about this adorable water-pupper's name...

As first glance, Dewgong could very well be inspired by real-life "dugongs", which are a family of marine mammals that include manatees. In the Red & Blue beta, Dewgong even had a different name: Manaty.

Below is a common dugong:

Ehhh...not really...dis chonky boi's got too big a nosey to look like Dewgong. And it ain't got no white fur, either.

According to Bulbapedia, Dewgong shares more characteristics with harp seal pups than actual dugongs because of their "white fur and icy habitat." I'm inclined to agree.

HNNNNNGH...

Anyway...

It's elongated body shares characteristics with fairy-tales of mermaids (which seals were often mistaken for mermaids by sailors of old).

It could also be inspired by beluga whales...again, due to the hue of it's fur and icy biome.

And the horn on Dewgong's head?

Narwhals. Easy.

Narwhals, narwhals, swimmin' in the ocean...

The OG Pokedex entries from generation 1 say is can swim at "8 knots". Now, I'm not a seafarer by any means, but I assume that's pretty dang fast? The anime seems to portray it as such.

The dex also says is gets..."frisky"...in cold water...

Other entries describe it as being able to swim very fast and very well in colder waters, saying it thrives in the colder climates and "snoozes" on icebergs.

Generation 3 dex entries make a callback to olden times when, as I mentioned above, sailors would often mistake seals and manatees for mermaids.

Generation 4 entries describe it's white coat as being a camouflage from predators, which tracks with most arctic species of seal.

In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon's entries, it gets darker, saying it is straight-up a predator, liking to munch on Wishiwashi, a small fish Pokémon introduced in Generation 7.

Oof...well, even the world of Pokémon has a circle of life. Bye bye, fishy! It's gonna be hard to avoid 8 KNOTS of solid blubber coming at ya!

~DESIGN~

Quoted from Dewgong's biology section on Bulbapedia:

"Dewgong is a pinniped Pokémon with a snowy white, furry body. Its fur renders it virtually invisible in snowy conditions. Its face has two black eyes, a black nose, and two tusks extending from its upper jaw. It has a streamlined body with two front flippers and a long flowing tail. Even in extremely cold and ice-packed waters, its tail allows it to be a swift and agile swimmer at speeds of 8 knots. On top of its head is a sharp horn, which allows it to cut through the thickest ice floes.

It lives on icebergs adrift in frigid ocean waters. It thrives in lower temperatures, becoming increasingly more active the colder the weather. By storing thermal energy within its body, it is completely unharmed by even the most intense freezing weather. During daylight hours, it sleeps on bitterly cold ice or under shallow water. However, at night when the temperature drops, it becomes a hunter and searches for prey such as Wishiwashi. Following a meal, it sunbathes on the beach. This raises its body temperature and aids in digestion."

~ADVANTAGES~

Being a Water-type, you'll naturally want to use Dewgong against Fire, Rock, and Ground-types. It's dual Ice-typing can also be handy against those pesky Flying and Grass-types as well. This is an upgrade from it's pre-evolved form Seel, which is only a Water-type. It's typing saves it from Super Effective death more than Seel.

True to real-life manatees and seals having a layer of blubber and fat to keep them warm, Dewgong's highest base state is Special Defense (closely followed by HP). Field Dewgong against Pokémon that use special attacks.

If your Dewgong has the "Thick Fat" ability (yeesh, what a name), any attacks against you that are Fire or Ice-type deal half the damage they normally would.

If your Dewgong has the "Hydration" ability (like our friend Goodra), any status conditions it has will heal if it is raining.

It's hidden ability, "Ice Body", heals 1/16 of damage against Dewgong if it is hailing at the end of each turn of battle.

Handy to have around as an HM user if you are playing one of the older games (i.e. learning moves to use outside of battle like Surf, Waterfall, and Dive).

IT'S CUTE AS HECC

~DISADVANTAGES~

AVOID THE CHU! Do not field against Electric-types.

No Grass-types, either.

As I mentioned, Fire-types now have normal effect against it instead of less effectiveness.

It's base states as a whole are not impressive. None of them break 100. That's not very desireable in a final-form Pokémon like Dewgong. Don't be thinking your Dewgong will outspeed or overpower anything decently fast or strong by default without some Hyper Training.

~HOW TO OBTAIN~

Buckle up, nerds. Since this Pokemon goes all the way back to the first generation, this might take a while:

In the original Red & Blue versions, you can catch a Dewgong while surfing in the Seafoam Islands, or by catching a Seel and leveling it up to level 34. You can also trade a Growlithe for a Dewgong with an NPC at the Pokémon Lab on Cinnabar Island.

In Gold & Silver versions, the only way to obtain Dewgong is to evolve a Seel. They are unobtainable in the wild.

In the Gen 1 remakes FireRed & LeafGreen, Dewgong can be obtained in the Seafoam Islands (as before) and Icefall Cave. Dewgong is in Ruby & Sapphire, but only by trading with FireRed & LeafGreen versions.

Dewgong is a version exclusive Pokémon in Generation 4, being available in Diamond, but not Pearl. Dewgong can be found in the postgame while surfing on Routes 226 and 230.

In Platinum version, wild Dewgong can be found while traversing Victory Road.

In the Gen 2 remakes HeartGold & SoulSilver, wild Dewgong can be found, again, while surfing in the Seafoam Islands.

In Black & White, wild Dewgong can be find while surfing in rippling water in the Giant Chasm. In Black 2 & White 2, Dewgong can also be found in rippling water in Seaside Cave.

In X & Y versions, Dewgong is only obtainable via an Ice Friend Safari.

In the Gen 3 remakes Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, Dewgong can be found postgame in the Shoal Cave as a hidden Pokemon that needs to be searched for in rippling water.

It is unobtainable in the wild in Sun & Moon. However, it is obtainable in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon by evolving Seel, which can be found in Seaward Cave.

Once more, in the somewhat unneeded Let's Go! Pikachu & Eevee games, it can be found while surfing in the Seafoam Islands.

As stated above, Dewgong is not available in any form in Sword & Shield. #dexitvictim

Dewgong is available in the Gen 4 remake Brilliant Diamond, like Diamond before it, in the same locations postgame (Routes 226 & 230). In addition, it can also be found in Icy biomes in the Grand Underground postgame.

Dewgong is not obtainable in Legends: Arceus.

~COOL DEWGONG FANART~

~CONCLUSION~

Like with Goodra, I've never had a Dewgong on my team. But BOY have I had a hard time taking down those belonging to NPCs on my journeys. It's not the most powerful Pokémon around, but it's handy for water-based HM moves and it's added ice-typing is certainly handy as well. It's also a beautiful and realistic Pokémon; a very good reminder of some of the amazing creatures we have out there in the real world.

Overall, a decent OG 'mon!

My birthday is in October, and that was next to “Feather Wind”. It’s also where I got the idea of giving myself purple feather earrings, even though I don’t own any.

Goals: Creating an independent animation studio where I can create original projects/becoming an animator

Personal animation preference: 2D animation that is traditionally hand drawn/detailed. Doesn’t matter the art style or medium. Nothing rigged, puppeted, or limited.
