“Pero, can you help me plug the rest of the lights in?”
It’s Halloween. Your favorite holiday, the one you celebrate from the first of September to the big day itself at the end of October. Your mate- your Alpha- did everything he could to make you happy all year long. But during spooky season? You could ask anything of him and he would do it for you.
Anything for his sweet Omega. Even if he grumbled a little, as is Pero’s way.
But this holiday, everything was going wrong. Your heat was coming, a full week early.
It had been simmering just under the surface for a day and a half, a burning in your belly that Pero was aware of almost as soon as you were. He had immediately set into action, barely stopping to kiss you before he was hustling out the door to the grocery store. He always made sure you had everything you both would need to get you through your heat. Even suppressed, your heats were a wild, needy thing. You had found trusted heat partners in the past, and they had helped you take the edge off. Helped you get through. You also had heaps of toys, ones that were gathering dust in the box under the bed.
But nothing - and no one - could prepare you for what it felt like to be with your mate. Your Alpha.
You try to fight off the growing need as you dump bags of candy into the garishly large skull-shaped bowl. Pero comes stomping into the room, his scent wafting toward you. It’s enticing and you stare at him with desire as he stalks toward you, clearing the length of the living room in three large strides.
“Enough with the lights. We shouldn’t even be bothering with this, we must make sure everything is set for your heat. Is your nest even ready?” Pero’s eyes are darkly intense, intimidating to anyone but you; his Alpha on edge as it waits for your heat to fully blossom.
Your breath catches when he stands over you, capturing your chin between his steady thumb and forefinger. Always wanting to make your Alpha pleased, you respond,” Yes, of course it is, darling. I took your sweatshirt and all the blankets you left out for me.”
Pero tilts your head, exposing his neck to you just as he did the night you became bonded for life. “You smell so good, sweet thing. I just want to take care of you now,” he murmurs, dragging his nose along the column of your neck. Electricity dances down your spine and your knees feel weak. You’re on the precipice, and he can taste you.
His protective scent rolls over you, soothing your Omega. Alpha will take care of me. He always does.
Pero leans in for a kiss, exhaling against your lips.
The doorbell rings, too loud against your raw nerves.
“Pero, the trick-or-treaters! We need to pass out the candy,” you murmur with concern. You always look forward to seeing what the little ones are wearing, cooing over their little capes and masks.
“I will give them their sweets. Go make sure everything is just as you like it,” Pero commands.
You acquiesce, reluctantly. “Alright, but they get to pick at least two. No, three. Let them pick at least three, alright? Don’t rush them, the little ones need time to think.” You rattle on, feet firmly planted in the same spot.
Pero listens for a moment before issuing a stern warning, so low it’s practically a growl.
“Omega.”
Your cunt clenches and you scurry back toward your bedroom. After a few minutes of rearranging, you deem it perfect. You can’t wait to show Pero. The doorbell has gone off several times now, and you worry that Pero has been left to his own devices with the children.
The yearning for your Alpha, the kind that makes your breath quicken and your pussy ache, is becoming unbearable. You want nothing more than to bury yourself in your nest and let Pero work you through your heat. Let him take you and fill you and soothe you over and over and over and…
Oh. It’s here. It’s here and you’re burning up. You need, you need…
“Pero? You call out, stumbling into the living room. You clutch your stomach, trying to stand upright.
Pero freezes, standing in front of the open door with a little vampire and an even tinier witch standing in the open doorway, rifling through the candy bowl. His scent fills your nostrils, his shoulders seemingly even broader than before. His chest is puffed up and somehow his hair seems a little wilder than just a few moments ago.
“Take one and go,” he grunts out to the children.
The witch and vampire protest. “But you said we could take three! Each!” the vampire exclaims.
Pero snaps. “Take the whole bowl and GO,” he demands, thrusting the comically large amount of candy into their tiny arms.
“Whoa,” you hear them utter in unison before he is slamming the door. He’s at your side in an instant, effortlessly lifting you up and carrying you down the short hallway to your shared bed.
“Clothes off, Omega.”
You weakly help as Pero gently helps you undress. “The porch light. Y-you left it on. They’ll be coming up to the door all night.”
Pero groans in annoyance, pulling the last stitch of clothing off of your body. “Fine, I’ll go turn it off. When I get back, I am going to take care of you. Do you hear me, Omega? I am going to fill you up. Give you my knot.”
You whine.
Pero continues. “And I am going to breed you.”

there are going to be global demonstrations for Palestine on march 2nd, this site has more info
here's what's written on the front page:
"On March 2, millions across the world will march for Gaza! The Israeli government is planning to have a full-scale invasion of Rafah one week later, on March 9, one day before the start of Ramadan. Today, the United States vetoed a UN resolution that insisted that Israel immediately cease its mass killing spree in Gaza.
Now is the time to act! People around the world are going into the streets in cities and towns, including in the United States, as part of the global day of protest on Saturday, March 2.
Gaza is facing famine, its hospitals are besieged, threats of ground invasion in Rafah loom near, and Israel continues its onslaught on the over 2 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
The mass movement for Palestine has led to the isolation of the US and Israel on the world stage. With growing internal divisions and heightened political pressure on Israel and the United States, it’s time to push even harder. Our mobilizations at this moment can be more decisive than ever, and we must show our full strength now to ensure a lasting ceasefire and an end to the siege on Gaza.
Act now, and mobilize in your communities and institutions, everyone must be on the streets on March 2nd! All out for Rafah! All out for Gaza! Stop the genocide!"

I think there's no greater indication that disco elysium is sympathetic towards communism when it literally says "communism is failure" and then the literal gameplay itself rewards trying and failing. The most obvious one being the Shivers check at the FELD mural, which is an Impossible 20 check BUT opens itself up again and again the longer you spend in the world doing things, but even just looking at sheer probabilities, for any given white check, rolling first and THEN putting a point into that skill upon failure is more likely to grant you success than putting a point first and then rolling, but that would require failing first.
Other things too: Precarious world saying you'll 100% fail red checks no matter what (not necessarily a bad thing, btw!! throwing the boule into the sea is a success but like. in some other ways one would want a perfect petanque throw instead. but people wouldn't typically assume that failure is desirable sometimes from the start) persuading you to accept that you'll fail some things that is irrevocable, for a world where everything is just a tiny bit easier.
The faux game over screen when you faint after reading Dora's letter— emulating a sense of failure on the scale of the entire game. When it rolls up most people go "What?? Game over?? No way, what did I do wrong!!" and waking up after that, with no huge or lasting impact on Harry's health or morale really tells the player, "Sometimes things will seem so bad that it all seems like it's coming to an end, but it's not the end, it's really not the end, go drink so water, you can still go on despite this failure"
I'm sure there are other things as well that are eluding me but like. The literal gameplay rewards failing and succeeding far more so than simply succeeding every single time, and I think you get a fuller experience of Elysium that way too

I need to talk about a Pokémon Anime episode for a moment
So for some context:I stopped watching the Pokémon Anime years ago because it was going in a direction I didn't enjoy, but there was one moment that I was looking forward to see in it still; one of the ones I saw many others eagerly awaiting, because it would do the characters justice and it would be great and a good time!
I just watched the related episode and...
I've not felt so dissapointed and unsatisfied in probably ever.
Granted, it had some redeeming pieces, but not only was the bit many fans of one of the characters were looking forward to not a thing, the writing of the entire episode as a whole was a mess in terms of narrative and setups and payoffs just falling flat and left unaddressed.
Even ignoring the personal letdown, this didn't feel good watching. No mood buildup, commentary between characters felt awkwardly forced and lacking actual connections and the whole pacing felt...rough.
The closest I can compare this to is the ending of the Kirby anime and that one had an extremely valid IRL reason for being utterly disappointing.
I have no idea what happened here, but I can only assume something must have gotten in the way for this too. (Either that or the writing and directing really has become that bad these days, I don't know. Again, it's been a while since I actually watched the Anime on a regular basis.)
To think I was upset about the episodes that introduced Riley/Gen way back when, because it glossed over the thing that EVERYONE wanted to know more about sneakily... But those episodes were still good and strong and hat a functional plot.
This episode had...a few good moments from the character it introduced, I guess? The problem it set up wasn't even set up properly, but it was addressed and... Well the episode said it was solved? It wasn't actually solved at all, neither of the characters involved in it really...learned anything or gained anything or made it a focus despite that apparently being the major point here or just...I dunno, anything?
And the emotional aspect of it was also just as quickly forgotten as it was brought up; not solved or further addressed, nothing.
Even the big fight that took up most of the episode and that we were told was really, really important didn’t actually feel important. I can think of more than a few battles in the past with much lower stakes that felt ten times more important than this one.
So in short... I want from “OMG, I didn’t know the series was far enough, the episode is out, I can’t wait to see this!” to “Every part of my soul that is either Pokémon Fan, Anime Fan, Writer or all of the above is unhappy.”
