hey I'm pretty new to gaylor stuff and am just wondering, why are the daisy socks important? Just wannna know how crazy I should be going over this lol

Hi and welcome to the gaylorverse!! 🤗 The daisies are one of the most obvious pieces of gaylor/kaylor evidence and they were the nail in the coffin for me when I first fell down the rabbit hole 🌼

It all started when Karlie and Taylor took a trip to Big Sur, California in early March 2014. They took a bunch of pics of their trip and this daisy makes a cameo in many of them (you can search “big sur” on my blog to read more abt it). The most important of these pics is the one where Karlie tags Taylor as the daisy on the dashboard and captions it w “best road trip ever.” This is referenced in Don’t Blame Me—“I once was poison ivy but now I’m your daisy.” Also “trip of my life” is a double entendre here bc she’s not only talking abt tripping on drugs but also abt this road trip. To add more evidence to this theory the original handwritten lyrics include a drawing of a daisy that looks exactly like the one on the dashboard w the same positioning and all.

Plus Karlie was a literal VS angel hence all the angel/heaven imagery in Don’t Blame Me and many other songs—“Halo hiding my obsession / I would fall from grace just to touch your face / Lord save me” // “Devils roll the dice, angels roll their eyes” // “I know heaven’s a thing, I go there when you touch me,” etc. And when she was making the song (1:00 of this vid) she said she wanted it to sound religious.

She mentioned in this vid that she has repeatedly used clothing and jewelry as easter eggs over the yrs which is why the daisy socks are a big deal. She’s extremely intentional w everything she does (she’s a mastermind after all) so it’s unlikely this is all a coincidence. She still uses daisies in her art and wears lots of clothes w daisies to this day which is one of many indicators that they probs haven’t broken up. There are countless other times daisies have shown up but I don’t have time to cover them all.

Fletcher and Kelsea Ballerini, who are Taylor’s friends and were invited to her after party not long ago, also took a trip to Big Sur in 2022 where they took a pic identical to the 2015 Vogue photoshoot pic and Polaroid shown above. This photoshoot was a recreation of their 2014 Big Sur trip. See here and here. This issue was released on Galentines Day, the same day Style was released as a single.

Also, Girl in Red recently mentioned at the eras tour that Serotonin, which has the lyrics “put me in a field with daisies,” was Taylor’s most listened to song. Taylor gifted her a painting she made w these exact lyrics.

ive struggled with how to answer this. i think it is largely that i found the text so movingly beautiful even as it was wrong with every assertion. it is the manic scrawlings of a schizophrenic person, pseudopigraphally attributed to an antidiluvion, and purported to be the The First Book. the text is relentlessly vivid and evocative.

he'll spend pages rambling about how the sun orbits the earth and the moon is a woman, then left-turn into vague call for violence or attempts to describe the undescribable. i think this is my favorite part

hate yourself by tv girl is very nina x kate (in the sense of kate watching nina destroy herself for a man who does not even like her) ough. ‘i think you’d fall in love with anyone who fell in love with you / and they frequently do’ BC KATE DID!! kate fell in love with her!! also ‘i’ll just wait til those arms belong to me’ is so subtly manipulative which is very. yeah. kate’s definitely not perfect and i wouldn’t put her above being like that if she really wanted to. + the deceptively happy instrumental with vaguely dark lyrics = nina being overly outgoing and social to make up for the fact that her mental state is in absolute shambles (poor bby)

the wolf by siamés is both tim and brian but i think leans more brian (what is it with this man that makes me think of ‘walking music’. ykwim? the chain, the wolf, house of the rising sun all remind me of him. all very slow-threatening-determined-walk songs) once again, driving beat, heavy bassline. (i play bass guitar so i love a song w an interesting bass part) i think shows resilience as well as grounding - imo he’s always been one of the more mature / level-headed creeps, to the point he’s very self aware. this man knows exactly what he’s doing at all times. ‘somewhere far away i can hear your call’ even in the future when he thinks he’s escaped from slender he knows deep down he’ll never be truly free…. yes ok

"I shovel all those memories, clear the path to drive to the store" i think even the imagery of him shoveling snow out of a driveway gives off that sort of strong, cold idea of him. and 'drive to the store' obv being...proxy work... also i love keep myself alive. i heavily agree she has every right to be angry, and thats a core part of her character - rage, grief, strength. "to sleep i of course think i'm stronger now / to sleep i gotta catch myself" im crying. the sleep menton + she feels alone. she has a support system, a literal wife, but she still holds all of her grief on her own shoulders. who the fuck else can relate to being violently stalked for months, walking in on your parents being tortured together, being attacked, nearly burnt alive, then LOSING your parents? also "how could this dark cloud make me stronger now" i think a lot of people would have told her that her experience made her a survivor and made her strong and whatnot. but i dont think she feels that way. i think she feels like a victim, she feels tortured, she feels like that same little girl who'd sleep in her parents bed after a nightmare - but this isnt a nightmare she can wake up from. her parents bed burnt to ashes. there is relief in just letting yourself grieve and hurt - but she's so beyond focused on being strong. and it doesnt make sense to her. doesnt make sense how she can be strong after all of that . but she is, cuz she has to be

when i make the video essay about bowie total drama as a flamboyant gay man and a villain/antagonist as my ideal modernisation of the series’ relationship with feminine male villains then you will understand you will all understand. every male villain in the first four seasons (possibly w the exception of scott but that’s a discussion. i am including lightning also) is to some degree metrosexual on purpose evilness is directly linked to effeminacy and vanity in men chris chef justin (didn’t even do anything that evil he was just gay) s2 geoff alejandro. it is quantifiable and linked the eviller geoff gets the more he cares about his stage makeup and diet alejandro’s older brother who is slightly eviller than him also has a slightly better skincare regimen. it is a fixture in series male villains to have jokes about vanity and ohh not my hairr but it is ALSO used to demonstrate that a male villain is not a major threat. they do this wayyy more with alejandro in all stars where he’s definitely mean and one to watch out for but not the main villain. he’s suddenly waxing his eyebrows and complaining when his face gets injured they justined him

emphasising effeminacy/metrosexuality here bc i’m not saying these characters are written as queer it’s more that visual and characterisation shorthand for villains is often rooted in older depictions of villainous gay men. pro wrestler mjf’s schtick is that he’s a douchey republican frat bro but as a heel he pulls consciously or not from the gorgeous george tradition of overdressed cowardly effete gay villains. he’s quite metro he’s known for his atrocious fake tan and burberry obsession he wears suits in the ring because he doesn’t intend to fight and has a big diamond pinkie ring he uses to cheat. several of his most infamous moments are him lulling a more masc Real fighter into a truce and then kicking him in the nuts. there’s a lot of overlap in terms of imagery between a villain who is loathsome because they’re wealthy and a villain who is loathsome because they’re gay gorgeous george is an excellent example of this as an absolutely genre-defining heel. at the working men’s clubs pro wrestling originated in seeing a villain who’s a snooty rich guy dressed fancy looking down on them get beaten to shit went down great !! gorgeous george was also incredibly effete he was a gay rich villain and part of the pleasure in seeing him get taken down was rooted in seeing the heterosexual hero take down his perverse wealthy opponent. almost impossible to extricate hatred of the wealthy villain from hatred of the gay villain in this case and it leaks down

genuinely much more interesting for td to lean into this trope and have a feminine gay man who is manipulative and plays to win rather than pointedly having him be super nice or having a character be manipulative but hyper-heterosexual (arguably scott but again there’s stuff going on w scott. mommy gf + ‘you were kissing a gentleman?’ + courtney i’m your girlfriend !!). anyway i’m a bowie liker i think he’s fun and fascinating as both a rejection and modernisation of the trope

i’ll b answering some comments on my last piece w/ some compositional notes + wip shot below the cut!

im obsessed with the title for this piece like. i dont know ur oc or whatever personal story/AU they've got but even so this is. powerful they're a balance wizard. they're the blind angel of Judgement. they've got Power Nova behind em: the birth of a new star they've got a smile on their face and their stance isn't rigid straight. they're swayed the dark soul is heavier than the light feather of truth are the 5 blades a reference to tarot? or like. blades in wizzy that buff your spells?

also a balance wizard w a god comex is so antithetical i love it

so gonna b real here “god_complex” came from me saving the initial sketch and thinking “man homegirl’s got some bde here” LOL. i’m not entirely sure if she does have a god complex or not, but i love your interpretation of the piece! frankly, i try not to get attached to the little details of my characters since i tend to be more concerned about crafting a larger and thematically cohesive narrative, so their characterization is really flexible. i actually find this concept of an antithetical sorcerer w/ a god complex REALLY saucy, so this has all been a happy coincidence of me just wanted to draw a fun cool scene. when i first imagined this piece, i’m fairly certain it was while my homies n i were pressing the delete button on a random boss LOL so really, it was a bit of my own hubris as a “god complex” than my oc’s! i haven’t gone past polaris yet so who knows! maybe she WILL go down her corruption arc :O

the only concrete thing here is that she’s meant to be a successor to ma’at (judgement), hence the whole judgement imagery. it makes me giddy inside as an illustrator to see that these compositional elements communicated that sufficiently 😊

here r some compositional notes about the piece:

mistress of judgement—blindfold, wings, scales of time (include heart+maat feather) ((i also wanted to make the staff ridiculously huge to be cool; i included a counterweight at the other end but it got covered up by the sandstorm)), halo for the Cool Factor, khopesh ((this was later changed to the sword of kings, then later to dragonblade))

bladestorm encircling enveloped by wings ((or more accurately mechanics-wise, balanceblade+enchant balanceblade+bladestorm+enchant bladestorm+dragonblade; i like to imagine that in a solo context the 4 bladestorms would just stack up to b used later LOL initially i wanted to do the crossed blades, but it ended up being compositionally messy so i scrapped that. while sketching i DID consider tarot imagery though 5 and 4 didn't really fit akdhkfkf anymore than 4 blades encircling and it would've been messy, and less and it would've been lacking. also, initially the blades were pointed down, but i decided against it to better represent them as charms bc i couldn't stop thinking of the sword of damocles which would be more of a threat LOL))

power nova, framed by raised wings ((it's been my aoe of choice + i like the implication that balance as an "element" is part sand part (sun)light; i also wanted to somewhat evoke ra imagery too by having power nova as the sun w/ its rays of light))

swirling sandstorm below ((i was just really taken by the sandstorm animation update bc it's so sparkly and pretty—girl got such a glow up. a bit of a happy accident but my friend interpreted it as chastisement n i was like yea that works too LOL. another happy accident was the red cast ending up evoking balance of power c: although power play was such a fun meme play))

modified alhazzy fit w/ balance pattern trim + cowl + no shoes + inspo from kim kassas’s walk like an egyptian ((hoo boy that collection has so many hot fits. not historically accurate but idgf it fucks. i was having trouble thinking of a suitable design since none of the in-game robes really suited the image i had in mind but this collection was The One. anyways i absolutely Love the balance pattern trim and i'm Very Offended girls don't get to use maroon to match w/ it. i made a csp brush for this bc no way in hell was i gonna handdraw all those LOL. if u want the brush n some other assets i made or ripped from kingsisle u should check the source link ;))) also you can't see the toes in the final render but in my sketches i ditched the ugly boots it's just a lil soleless footwrap now. ALSO i’m distraught that it slipped my mind to give her these earrings that mimicked the pans of a balance scale 😭))

who tf told yeji? i kinda think it was yuna or woo. i also may be way off but i have a feeling yuna might be jyp gossip too… we don’t actually know that much about her and she was replying to y/n’s posts like a fangirl even before they were friends. she’s also been 100% good/nice so far and from what we’ve seen in this series, nobody is completely good/nice. everybody has a grey area at some point.

poor yeji dude. as much as y/n is going through it, she absolutely deserved this reaction from yeji and hyunjin. i’m glad yeji didn’t hold back and give her a chance to tell hyunjin bc honestly y/n has had so many opportunities to and failed so what difference would her telling him first now make. i also loved that y/n could recognise yeji’s “state of agony” and relate to it, therefore making her feel even more guilty and actually understand the weight of her actions. yeji also asking “what did i ever do to you?” is so fr bc she literally just existed in hyunjin’s life and that was enough for y/n to want to ruin her. to think that this whole chaos started just bc y/n’s toxic level of jealousy.

the imagery of hyunjin melting with y/n, literally begging to hear that it’s just a misunderstanding… fuck that hurt. in a way it was like he was begging to not have to endure the pain of their past again and the regret of letting himself get hurt again. the realisation that his blind trust in y/n has once again been his achilles heel and possibly always will be.

hyunjin telling y/n “it’s always someone else isn’t it” is so true. he reminds her of all the past opportunities he gave her to come clean to him and didn’t, but all she’s replying with is excuses that she was scared to lose him and yeosang’s threats. like ofc yeosang’s threats scared her but at the end of the day she dealt with them poorly until it was too late. so far this series she’s shown she feels remorse for her actions (bet related or not), but she’s always had a habit of preaching excuses or blaming someone else instead of owning her shit. so its understandable for hyunjin to not believe her immediately when she said seungmin forced her (i had a feeling what happened between them wasn’t consensual like i dm’d about). in a way it’s like the kid that cried wolf. from hyunjin’s perspective, she’s the common denominator in so many issues but somehow always finds away to divert blame away from herself.

as much as i wouldn’t blame hyunjin and yeji for never wanting to speak to y/n again i hope they talk about everything properly. i’m ofc looking forward to hyunjin and y/n’s talk, but i also really hope yeji and y/n talk to each other alone too. yeji deserves an explanation more than anyone tbh.

also i’m obsessed with the end referencing the sun (hyunjin) and moon (y/n), that was beautiful and tragic 🖤

i love how i ruined everyone for you that now you just cant trust anyone anymore i cannot 😭😭 i agree i think recognizing the pain in yeji plays a huge part in her guilt ultimately i feel like yeji and yn mirror each other sometimes they both have a sense of darkness to them but yn clearly had it much worse 😞 and yess yn feels remorse for her actions but instead of dealing with the consequences she runs away a lot and withers in self pity and hatred instead which is toxic as well

heyy dude what’s up you don’t have to post this but your discussion of this had me thinking.. as a gay and trans person who would consider myself very religious but in the Jewish way I think this sites obsession w Catholic imagery is really bizarre like I do understand finding things about it compelling or wanting to reclaim imagery but it’s soo weird to me the way nonreligious people choose to engage with it sometimes it’s corny like you said. it’s also so weird to me that catholicism specifically is what’s been chosen as The Aesthetic Religion bc the Catholic Church is soooo antisemitic (on top of many many many other obvious issues) like my family had to leave Europe bc of it. like the Catholic Church has a long bloody history of inciting violence against ppl like me and that Wouldn’t actually change if I was cishet which I think is an interesting distinction between myself and people who want to post gay Catholic imagery stuff. but it’s also like can’t rly complain I think it would be weirder to me if non-religious people engaged with non-christian religions in this way, it would be a really bizarre form of cultural appropriation. the state of being a religious transfag on tumblr in 2023. sorry for rant <3

No need to apologize, I think this is a very important thing to acknowledge! I think the reason why Catholicism is the “aesthetic religion” of choice is largely due to the fact that Christianity in general dominates American culture. So on one hand, I’d say you be hard pressed to find a gay person in the US who hasn’t been impacted by Christian homophobia. & because it’s not uncommon for people to channel their angst with oppression into fascination with or fetishism over a sensitive subject, it’s only natural that so many people would be drawn to do so for Christianity. That said, the aesthetics of many Protestant religions are far more modest than Catholicism, and many Protestant faiths are far less literal with their interpretations of the Bible/biblical rituals and all that. Aside from Catholicism the 2 other faiths I’ve seen be romanticized are fetishized is like… the whole Southern Baptist midwest gothic “Ethel cain core” type thing, and Mormonism, but the only people I’ve seen fetishize the latter are ex Mormons whereas the former seems to have more of a wider appeal.

What you said about that specific oppression resonated with me; though I’m not Jewish myself, I recently learned that my mom & her side of the family are Jewish to some extent… but I was never made aware of this as a kid (despite that side of the family frequently discussing heritage), and I suspect this was due to how Catholic that side of the family is. It’s really fucked up, and I want to ask my grandma what she knows about that, but I’m hesitant to because I fear it would make her or other people in the family treat some family members differently. That dilemma itself definitely has made me uncomfortable with my family’s religious beliefs in a way that’s distinctly different from the discomfort with their homophobia I had prior, so I can only imagine it’s pretty upsetting to see that faith be romanticized when you’re directly and more severely impacted by centuries of Catholic antisemitism. I really appreciate you reaching out & sharing your perspective, apologies if I talked all over the place 👍

can u go into ur beef w the texas chainsaw massacre reboot bc i’m nothing if not a hater and i love hearing why thing suck :)

so beyond being a flat, bland, uninspired piece of shit filmmaking with absolutely nothing to say beyond "hey maybe we can cash in on this familiar property", the tcm reboot follows in the infuriating footsteps of david gordon green's god awful "halloween" trilogy by bringing back sally a la bringing back laurie and tries to imitate that movie's limp-wristed attempt at analyzing "trauma" by having sally be obsessed with tracking down leatherface and killing him (like laurie is obsessed with killing michael). this choice for "halloween" wasn't inherently bad because an interesting story COULD be told about laurie and her trauma, but the movie has absolutely nothing profound or even interesting to say about trauma and its capacity to trickle down through generations: it deals entirely in superficial buzzwords and overwrought, brick-heavy imagery. for tcm though, it's absurd that sally would want to "track down" leatherface and kill him for revenge. she escaped a situation almost beyond comprehension that was created by multiple people—the Family—not a single entity like michael. if sally was even still alive, there is no way she would be trying to "resolve" her trauma by fixating on "leatherface" himself. if "halloween" was a kiddie pool in its emotional depth, tcm 2022 is a goddamn puddle. its an insult to the masterpiece that is its predecessor.

oh also i forgot to mention that the themes of the original tcm are the complete deterioration of the idealized american dream presented in the 50s and the cyclic nature of slaughter, consumption, and violence. and the theme of the tcm remake?? if u were in a school shooting, u just need to shoot a gun urself to recover from that experience :)

hiii yza! it’s car crash anon… now that we’re a few weeks into god of music’s release, I was wondering if you had a ranking / any thoughts on the tracks for seventeenth heaven?

for me I’m OBSESSED with the dance practice behinds. any behind for award ceremony practices are also pretty fun, but I just personally loveee hearing them sing little bits and pieces of the song live in the dance practices. this is actually how I characterize booseoksoon in my head—they’re the three members most likely to burst into song (seriously. that mmtg vid I pointed out before with hoshi imitating a violin player? in that vid seungkwan starts singing manmanhani by ukiss and dk and hoshi join in. yeah I just know this in my head. no I couldn’t tell u a single member’s bday in svt I just keep lots of strange and minuscule factoids in my head)

anyways, because of that I TREASURE the inside seventeens for fighting (the dance practice, the promotional activities, and the circle chart awards practice) because there’s just so much. ~performance~ going on. impromptu singing and such. I actually wasn’t a biggest fan of the song but after watching the behind stuff and the going seventeen (mr. cha you’re an icon to me) I was completely sold on the vibe of it all.

also I think I just like dance practices. every month I remember some svt performance and text my friend like “listen I just think whether you like the song or not spider has such a good choreography. like it absolutely represents the feeling of prey and predator so well. also like the props are so effectively used like. it’s literally just glorified pull-up bars but the layering of them creates this really interesting enhancement of Depth and makes it really FEEL like one is being pulled deeper into a web—and when they switch to a side view, these same props almost give off the image of prison bars. the execution is genuinely so brilliant—” [cut for time] I could do this abt most svt choreos tbh I LOVE picking out details!
