Punk spike jackets serve exactly the same purpose as coyote vests on a chihuahua. Sensitive little punk needs spikes between him and potential predators (strangers talking to him, he has social anxiety)
This is exactly what you look like in your battle jackets:

So I stumbled across this Etsy that sells dog accessories, and like 50% of the patches they sell (intended for use on dog jackets) go harder than anything made with humans in mind. Like am I crazy or

Hi hello - I know you said in a previous reply that you have a masterlist of this stuff in your drafts but. Is there any 'hard no's of battle/patch jackets that someone should be aware of? Wanting to start making one but very aware of how little I know & nervous about doing something Wrong
There are exactly 3 rules (and a secret 4th) to battle jackets in my mind, some people will tell you theres more, some people will call my rules stupid, but these are the guidelines I stick to
Do not put any political patches on your sides or back. Keep them in the front. This one is honestly just for safety, if someone has a problem with it, you’ll be able to see them coming
If you don’t know of or listen to a band, don’t put the patch on your jacket just cause you think they look cool. People might ask you about it, you’ll be standing there without answers, you might get called a poser (even if you arent)
If you have other options, don’t buy off amazon. Buy from small businesses, straight from bands, or DIY it. Though I recognize that not everyone has other options for large varieties of reasons, but if you do, take them (besides DIY or small business patches usually look cooler imo)
Those are my 3 most important rules for battle jackets. But do you have to follow them? Of course not. I cant force you to do anything, its your jacket, not mine. That leads me to my secret 4th rule though
4. Don’t give a shit what other people think of it. Its your jacket, its meant to represent you, not fit in with some fast fashion fad. Jackets are something that is supposed to be personal, so as long as you like it, its a good jacket

Heyo! I was wondering if you could help me learn more about punk culture and the origin of it? I found you from your fic and the posts connected to it and it looks pretty interesting (• ▽ •;) it ok if not ! :)
of course! I’m always happy to help someone learn more. what sort of info are you specifically looking for? I’m still somewhat new to the subculture so I’m not sure how helpful some of my info might be but I’ll try my best to at least point you in the right direction *\(^o^)/*

Mixtape Monday! Can I ask you to make a battle jacket mix please?
I spent a really long time on this. It was exceedingly difficult to find songs strictly about battle jackets (I only found one!), so I included songs that mention adjacent topics. The Daycare Swindlers are on here because Mark Reiter of DC Swindlers once said: “It’s not about wearing your heart on your sleeve, it’s about making a whole fucking jacket out of it,” which pretty much sums up my entire ethos and is also where I got the title of this mix.
While looking for songs to include, I also remembered this Imogen Binnie quote:
“Her jacket is a work of art. There’s a Kids in the Hall skit where Satan gives a stoner the ability to grow weed out of his head in exchange for his perfect denim jacket: that’s the kind of denim jacket Maria has. Satan would kill for her jacket. Here are its patches: The Bouncing Souls, White Zombie, the word fuck, a little girl holding giant scissors (on plaid), Hello My Name Is DYKE, and, the coup de grace, the whole back is the cover of the first Poison album. It’s not even ironic. Poison rules.” – Imogen Binnie, Nevada
Which in turn led me to this essay (which is about metal battle jackets, whereas I’m more well-versed in punk battle jackets, but it’s still a really good essay).
I also came across this page, where you can peruse photos of some truly excellent battle jackets.
it’s about making a whole fucking jacket out of it
Daycare Swindlers - Big Show (Stomp your steel tip boots some more / Not enough movement on the dance floor)
The Queers - Punk Rock Girls (Leather jackets, stupid boyfriends / Poor report cards, life is just a ball / Hi- top Chucks and bubblegum / And oh my gosh, I'd love to love 'em all / They're so cool their style is never cramped / Too much of everything, and everyone is amped / Well, don't get hot and bothered / Listen, I know I got problems / I also know just what this goofy world needs / Yummy yummy punk rock girls)
Mary Monday & The Bitches - I Gave My Punk Jacket to Rickie
Who Killed Spikey Jacket? - Punks Dress Punk (Don't let them tell you how to dress / Let ME tell you how to dress / Wear studs.)
Mischief Brew - Punx Win! (So, I collect these crumpled, / Beer-stained flyers, / Seven-inches, photographs, / All your old letters that remind me / To look down and back. / Its then I realize our romance / Has its roots in one sub-humans patch.)

hi! im want to make a battle jacket, but i do have a question about making it: does it need to have certain bands on it? if so, which bands SHOULD be on it?
ty!
Nope nope nope nope nope nope nope!!!
Should you have some punk bands? I mean I *guess*. That is the norm yes. But! I also have bands like Kiss, My Chemical Romance, Arrows in Action
I’d say it’s probably best to avoid things like Taylor Swift or idk like Katy Perry, but no. There are no rules about what bands you can or cant put on your battle jacket
I see this question so often, I’m about to make a country music themed one just to be able to post a picture of it in response lmao
