Felt like going back to my roots and drew the Sanders Sides! I hope I finally did them justice.

I honestly have no idea what I’d be like today if I never watched this series. To me it acted as a guide on self reflection and gave me the vocabulary to talk about things like anxiety. And it did this in a fun, digestible, memorable way. I think the first video I watched upon release was “Fitting In,” and I remember the hype in the hours leading up to it. So that one will always have a special place in my heart. Also, Sanders Sides was my first fandom, and it made sure I was in a good online community. Even though I don’t think about the series as much now, it still means a lot to me.

I woke up today and realized that Big Time Rush literally got the same treatment celebrities in the Hollywood studio system got: fictionalized backstory given to the audience that most adults could figure out was fake pretty easily/or knew was fake but still enjoyed the fake backstory because it gave everyone a "plucked out of obscurity" story to root for. A fake name (or in their case, last name) given to them to make them sound more "star" worthy. Literally slotted into an archetype to make them more appealing to their demographic. (There is literally an episode for Logan's first name goes from "Hortense" to "Logan" to make him more "appealing.") In this essay I will-

Patton - The Beatles, Queen, Bon Jovi, every classic rock song I've ever kinda liked

Logan - Tally Hall and AJR (and classical music to study to)

Virgil - Pure pop punk emo filled early 2000s (Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Panic! At The Disco, Twenty One Pilots, All Time Low, Paramore, etc etc)

Roman - The Newsies Broadway cast recording. And showtunes in general

Remus - Chonny Jash (also see every psychopathic-ish song I listen to. Add Hollywood Undead and most of The Brobecks too)

Janus - Schmaltzy big-band music. Best of 50s and 60s. Also Tally Hall, somehow

Hello,

My name is Virgil, and you are my journal. Mom recently got me a new one to write in because I filled up the old one. To be very clear, you will mostly be used for song lyrics and venting. What I have to say isn’t always pretty. You’re also one of my birthday presents. One of three from my family members. I don’t really have any friends, except for Logan, who’s friends with Patton. Don’t get me wrong, Patton’s nice and all, but he doesn’t really like me, finds me scary. Idk how I feel about him. Oh, right, my presents. Mom got me a new binder, and dad got me a keyboard. I’ll have to play around with it. But it’s much more portable than a piano for sure. Oh right. Maybe I should introduce you to myself, journal. I already told you my name, but my gender and pronouns are a secret for you still, I guess. I always introduce myself in each new journal, I don’t know why. Just feels nice to actually introduce myself to something. I am way too socially awkward to introduce myself to someone else. Anyways, my gender is fluid, and my default pronouns are storm/storms. But I’ll try and update my pronouns in you each time they change. That way, I can get better at updating my pronouns to other random people, if I ever get the chance to. Anyways there’s this band competition in my town, but I need two other people in order to qualify. Maybe I’ll ask Logan and Patton. Don’t know what we’d do though. Well, Logan can play the guitar, just need to figure out what Patton can do. Anyways, goodbye for now journal. I’ll talk to you after dinner, well write to in you.
