The formerly formidable modern city lay in ruins as the camera panned over what was left of the Arena now. Shattered glass and cracked marble, the crumbled and overgrown fountain where green algae filled water rippled slightly in the breeze. It seemed as though something unstoppable had wreaked havoc through the city, and left it now for nature to take back what was theirs.

Medea sat at the foot of her bed, arms wrapped around her knees as she intently watched the games coverage on screen. They were showing who was left, who was injured and who was alright, which groups had split off where. And then - Mason was on screen. Perking up a little, Medea scooted forward, as though he would be able to see her better - or at all - that way.

So first of all he’d like to say it wasn’t his fault. He wasn’t into magic stuff, that was all Billy’s schtick. So really, it is not Victor’s fault that he accidentally activates some sort of sigil and suddenly ends up with a very confused looking child.

A young girl, maybe four or five, with bright red eyes, slightly pointed ears, and what looks to be some sort of living suit partially fused with her body. Alright, okay, he doesn’t have to freak out, he’ll just… call one of the Justice League Dark members and get her a spare shirt or something to wear until they come to the Watchtower!

It’s fine, he’s fine. He’s not having memories to when he first got melded with all of this tech that’s now a part of him and feeling sick at the idea of it happening to a child.

Haymitch, for all of his flaws, started a generational change that rippled out.

He didn't have much he could do to protect Katniss and Peeta from going into the Games, from Snow, from the Quell, or the war, but he wasn't going to let them lose each other. He knew what that was like, losing an ally (Maysilee) and a love ("my girl") and he might not be able to save them from all the Capitol put them through, but he pulled out every wile and connection and every minute of semi-sobriety he had in him to help his kids have a better life with each other, to not be alone and miserable like he was.

And how in turn Katniss and Peeta of course can't protect their kids from the pain of life, from their parents' nightmares, from the history they have to learn, from the worry it might happen again, but they built a life of full bellies and safety and love for them, so that in turn their children can have a better life, too.
