i love Babkak and Omar's relationship so much. we don't get a ton of vocal interactions between them on stage, but physical interactions? they are always hanging out and they're very affectionate with each other.
this scene could be happening:
a) while Kassim is explaining his newest potential crime scheme
or b) during one of Al and Kassim's arguments

Do you know about the deleted Aladdin characters Babkak, Omar, and Kassim? They were originally Aladdin's friends before they were removed and replaced with Abu.
I do!! Love those dudes, so glad they put them back in the Aladdin musical for Broadway. All their songs are so fun

So I was listening to my theater playlist again, as I do, and I’ve come to quite the final question
Why oh why does the Broadway Aladdin soundtrack line up with the M!IK cast as well as it does??

For Fun: Here's My Favorite Disney Songs That Were Deleted/Changed in the Final Film (Part 3)
Tumblr media
"High Adventure" would've seen Babkak, Omar, Kassim, and The Genie of the Ring on their way to rescue Aladdin from Jafar. This was also restored in the Broadway version.
youtube
Ashman and Menken set Aladdin aside to finish work on Beauty. By the time they got back to work on it, the script was already in the process of being rewritten. Ashman only finished two more songs before his death. "Prince Ali" and the first of what would end up being several attempts at a Jafar song, "Humiliate the Boy". (Note, in the early drafts, Genie could grant unlimited wishes, hence why this song is the way it is.)
youtube
After Ashman's death, Menken wrote both the music and lyrics for a new "I Want" song for Aladdin entitled "You Can Count On Me". Given the context of when he wrote this, this makes me tear up.
youtube
As the script came together, Menken teamed up with Andrew Lloyd Webber's former collaborator, Tim Rice to finish the songs for Aladdin. They kept "Arabian Nights", "Friend Like Me", and "Prince Ali" from earlier drafts, and wrote "One Jump Ahead", and "A Whole New World" to round it out. Menken and Rice tried two more times to write a villain song for Jafar. Their first attempt was "Why Me?" which almost made it into the Broadway show, before being cut after tryouts.
youtube
Their next attempt was "My Finest Hour". This didn't work, and they settled on a dark reprise of "Prince Ali" for the final film.
youtube
For The Lion King, Mufasa had a song called "To Be King" which I cannot picture James Earl Jones singing at all.
youtube
Timon and Pumbaa's original song, "Warthog Rhapsody" is pretty fun (I actually kinda enjoy this one more than Hakuna Matata). Its tune would be repurposed for "That's All I Need" from The Lion King 1 1/2.
youtube
Timon originally also had a verse in Hakuna Matata. This would later help inform the plot of Lion King 1 1/2.
youtube
Timon and Pumbaa also almost sang "Can You Feel The Love Tonight?" which would've been really funny in hindsight.
youtube
Most famously, Scar's reprise of "Be Prepared" where he hits on Nala was slightly repurposed i. the Broadway show as the song "The Madness of King Scar"

To be Continued in Part 4!

Apparently, there’s a deleted Aladdin song (now used in the Broadway musical) that featured Aladdin and his three friends. Yeah, Aladdin had friends in an early draft. And now I’m imagining Raine, Amber, Katya, and Derwin singing this song back when they were known as the BATTS. Like TELL ME THAT’S NOT THEIR SONG IT FITS THEM SO WELL
And cuz I’m multifandom trash, I have more ideas:
Wema, Tunu, Kijana, and Dogo causing mischief as kids do
I have a hc that Walleye Pike sometimes joins Polly, Clueless, and Monty when they’re pillaging so this song is totally them
The snake squad: It’s Kaa, Sir Hiss, Ushari, and Fu-xi

Hi theater kids! On Saturday night, I went to see Aladdin on Broadway!!! It was one of the coolest and most well done shows I have ever had the privilege to see.
Our cast was Michael James Scott as the Genie, Jacob Gutierrez (understudy) as Aladdin, Shoba Narayan as Jasmine, Don Darryl Rivera as Iago, Dennis Stowe as Jafar, Jeremy Gaston (standby) as Babkak, Brad Weinstock as Omar, Milo Alosi as Kassim, and JC Montgomery as the Sultan.
All in all, a beautiful show, I loved the translation from screen to stage and the beautiful theater it was in.

Another scene from the hypothetical Aladdin Broadway/Shiki Theatre sequel.
A continuation of this: https://thenewnio.tumblr.com/post/684190872972247040/scene-from-a-hypothetical-aladdin-broadwayshiki
The knot was coming undone. Just one more tug...
The rope around Iago’s wrists came loose. Finally! Now he could focus on getting out of the sack.
Which was tied shut.
From the outside.
This was going to be tough.
Iago tried his hardest to pull the mouth of the sack open, but it wasn’t getting any looser. Then he remembered that he was being guarded.
Babkak, Omar, and Kassim loitered next to the squirming sack. Aladdin had given them orders to guard Iago, but it was kind of a dull job.
“Hey!” Iago’s muffled voice issued from the sack. “You, big hungry guy!”
"Babkak,” Babkak said.
“Whatever. I'll get a snack for you if you open the bag!”
That did sound tempting, but Iago was obviously lying. “Yeah, okay,” Babkak nodded. “What kind of snack is it?”
“It’s a surprise treat. Now, open the bag!”
“Where are you gonna get the surprise from?” asked Omar.
Beneath the gunny, Iago’s face fell. “Uh...”
Kassim bent down to address their prisoner. “Look, Al wants us to keep a close eye on you until he’s gotten everything ready. Until then, you’ll just have to stay in there.”
“OH, COME ON!” Iago cried, wriggling inside the sack. “I got a wife and three kids! Imagine them growing up, never knowing their daddy!”
“You’re not really married, are you?”
“I could be one day!” Iago increased his frantic struggles to get free. “PLEASE, open the bag! I can’t breathe in here!”
“The bag’s made of gunny!” Kassim pointed out. “You shouldn’t have any problem-”
“It’s getting dark...” The sack ceased its movements, becoming still.
“Oh no.” Omar rushed to the sack. “He’s dying in there!” He began untying the mouth.
“Omar, don’t-” Kassim began, but it was too late.
A fist shot out of the sack, connecting with Omar’s jawline. He fell backwards, as Iago quickly crawled out of the sack, scrambling to his feet.
“Grab him!” Kassim exclaimed. Babkak advanced on Iago, but the latter managed to avoid the former, running through the open doors into the palace, with the three chasing after him.
In the dining room, the Sultan asked Aladdin, “Why did you bring up that deceitful manservant anyway?”
“Sultan, I have to tell you something about Iago,” Aladdin began, when there was a commotion outside the room. In another moment, the doors burst open, and Babkak, Omar, and Kassim threw themselves through. They had tackled someone, and were now trying to pin him down.
Everyone in the room recognized who it was that the three were trying to restrain. Aladdin awkwardly finished his confession.
“He's... back?”

For fandom, Aladdin

literally just aladdin himself. look at him and tell me thats not just A Friend sdfghjgf-
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)
im just gonna say babkak omar and kassim in one because like. musical is kinda more obscure than the movie and they only exist in the musical so like!! not as well known but also like literally my favorites!!!! (also i feel like just saying that just. i love the songs they’re in dfghgfds)
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week)
ok so since most of the background characters are literally just. background characters this is hard (also i havent seen the straight-to-video sequels so i cant say anyone from that- idk why but my brain is like “haha No Focusing we dont Do That Here” every time I try to watch one its so weird BUTANYWAYS) but like. you know those kids at like the very start (i say that as if they dont show up like ten minutes into the movie which is not really “the very start” ASDFGFDS) that aladdin gives his bread to? love them theres no reason for this they just seem Very Nice to me :D
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave)
....okay honestly N/A unless im allowed to put kassim again because genuinely i cant think of any characters that would fit as a “poor little meow meow”-
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)
abu can go to the horse plinko i Dont Care i just never liked abu and i still dont i cant explain it ASDFGHGFD- idk just. he literally just gets on my nerves and i dunno why i just- ughh
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell)
jafar WITHOUT A DOUBT he is literally the fucking worst of like all the characters you ever just hate a character so bad-

There's something about very close trios in musical theatre of characters who all dress similarly.
